Not sure how many stars to give: coffe, location and customer service deserve 5, they are great. The location is great for a cup of coffee/tea/lemonade and just hang out for a bit. However, the prices are not friendly at all. I get it, the location must cost a pretty penny to rent, but let's be realistic here... 1 small cold brew(I mean child size, not regular small cup from Starbucks, I am talking smaller, even my kids noticed the size) 1 small iced latte 1 brownie (not fresh) and 1 tiny croissant (stale, at least 3 days old, not factual just guesstimate) TOTAL...$27. If that is normal price for you, go for it.
Great place for breakfast java work a view.
Highly recommend Coffee Grinder. My family from out of town is in love and we make a trip there every time they visit! Even in the winter! Great location and great coffee!
Wonderful coffee shop. The inside is small, but it’s lovely and quaint. The barista was very knowledgeable about the various coffee drinks and origins and the coffee was great. Highly recommend.
Awesome place! Pastry is amazing and very good quality coffee! Reasonable price! I should definitely recommend
I felt like a local ordering at this little coffee joint/bakery. The barrister (and also I think the owner) was very nice and accommodating. She didn't even mind when my mom switched her order even though she had already started the drink. The little porch out front had a great view of the parlor. This place is very relaxed and casual with fair prices.
Small shop, with friendly service, great coffee and an incredible view!
This place will ruin SB for you, as it should. Plus it's right on the water .
Great Espresso! Good food.
ALWAYS the first place I go for coffee over there. The woman is so sweet and makes incredible drinks as well as pastries. Very small but very worth going
The best place to take your coffee ☕.
Small locally owned grab your coffee/pastry and go place. Excellent cappuccino, didn't try the coffee this time. Sitting on the dock drinking coffee is the thing you do.
Great Chai Latte on a frigid day!
A little pricey but food is good and it's a great location to hang out and watch the boats
It is a fairly ok cafe. The sceen is very nice. It almost feels like being in a movie. This is also fairly expensive. ~$13.50 for a medium latte, and one cinnamon bun. Be careful.
Lovely. Fun. Great location and views.
Great coffee. View is fantastic. Friendly service. Limited seating.
Small place tucked way in the back of everything. Quaint shop with decent coffee and a great view
Good
This was $21 before tip. Two cafe lattes and a biscotti that tasted stale. Go to starbucks instead.
Great cappuccino and spot is beautiful.
Coffee was ok .. I think the view was better.
Extremely overpriced, $7.50 for an average muffin make sure you ask for the prices before you buy anything. Nice coffees though.
The best - "hidden gem"
Great coffee! Great service!
I would recommend this place. But my recommendation is based on the location and the friendly staff. And by friendly staff, I mean the one hard working lady behind the counter. There was a long line and she was alone. She was never stressed or rushed. She was just good at her job. And while she was juggling 10 orders she was talking to us. Just plain cool. The location is just by the port near some amazing boats. It was very relaxing having our coffee here. The coffee was just average or this place would have received a 5.
Cozy coffee shop. Definitely recommend!
Awesome mocha. Great barista. I go back every time I'm in the area.
Very unique. Lovely little find. Friendly staff
Great coffee on the dock in the marina. Friendly owner makes it very comfortable and welcoming.
Alyssa runs an awesome little coffee shop!
Great cozy location, quality products but more expensive than average. I spent 13.36 on medium iced latte and a cheese danish.
$11 for two medium iced coffees with just cream. If you want better coffee for a better price, I’d even start recommending Dunkin’.
Purchased a “large iced tea”, which came out in a pretty standard size medium cup and was charged $5.78! Outrageous. Didn’t notice till I checked my debit card.
Right on the water and just down the way from our hotel. This place has homemade everything!!! You can't go wrong with a single thing. My advice, grab a large coffee and work your way across the menu!
I am not a coffee drinker, but I've been searching the coffee places for my first pumpkin spice chai of the season. No other place would make me one, insisting all they had were cappuccinos and lattes in that flavor, even when chais were on the menu. The owner, I assume, was working the kitchen and whipped me one up right away when I mentioned this. It's phenomenal, not too sweet or cinnamony. The view is incredible from right outside her charming little coffee nook, and even though I'm only here one more day, I'll make sure to go back. Thank you so much!
Very friendly staff and great food and drink. Pricy but understandablely as rent must be crazy
Great coffee shop, has been around a while from my understanding. I was passing through town and wanted some coffee, and was not disappointed with the coffee, owner, or view. Only difficult part is getting there - park and walk to is the only way.
Very friendly shop owner. Great great view and seats by the harbor. Ok coffee...
Small, but friendly staff and good coffee.
Regardless of time of year, this place has excellent coffee and hot cocoa, and the people that run it / work there are always friendly and helpful. Sit down in one of the chairs outside and enjoy the view and sounds of the harbor.
Alyssa runs the most quaint coffee shop at the end of the wharf. It’s small, but the views are unbeatable. The coffee is gourmet, the pastries are home made, and it’s the perfect way to start the day.
Great cup of coffee looking at Yachts!!
Cool location right on the wharf. The coffee and muffins are exactly what you'd expect.
Good coffee!! Awesome pastries! And this place has the worlds biggest tip cup!
Wonderful experience. Had a great convert with the owner. She was friendly and accommodating. Makes the best baked goods.
Friendly owner, variety of seasonal, fresh-baked pastries, delicious espresso & a spectacular view!
Great views of Newport Harbor. Good coffee and homemade baked goods.
She charges whatever she feels like, not what is marked on board. If you question her she will make up a lie about why it's more expensive. Read the reviews below you'll will see people constantly complain about charges. We use to love this spot until i caught onto what she was doing. Now i won't go back ever.
We enjoyed our great coffee at the ocean front
A coffee shack on the waterfront. Scone 4.95. Espresso double 3.70. Teas, pastries.
All right, I guess. Empire coffee is allot better.
Beautiful setting. Great atmosphere
I come here every time I go to Newport. Amazing service and coffee. Make sure you get a shot of espresso to really taste the quality of the beans.
Terrible costumer service. Me and my friend went there to grab freshly squeezed orange juice as they promoted, almost 10 bucks for 2 glasses of fresh squeezed orange juice (when the bottle juice was 2.50)and what we get was 2 glasses of Tropicana bottle juice, no pulps, no fresh taste. So I decided to go back and ask her nicely, I thought that it's misunderstanding, but she yelled at me loud in front of the other people that were waiting on the line, that she is making freshly squeezed orange juice from 16 years and this is freshly squeezed orange juice! LOL I'm working in restaurant and I make freshly squeezed orange juice every single day and I know how it looks and how it taste. So we were returning costumers, but this was the last time we visit that place - such a horrible experience.
Contigo handed over "A large hot coffee with milk please and a hot chocolate!"
Excellent coffee and the lady is very friendly and nice
They know what excellent coffee is.
Amazing coffee and pastries. Even better service. And the views are fantastic.
Best secret in town. Cheaper than Starbucks and OH SO MUCH BETTER! A friendlier barista can't be found! Great views and shade or sun overlooking the harbor... Awesomeness!
The one woman staff was crazy efficient. Certain coffee chains should take notes.
Don't miss this stop when you visit. A must for coffee lovers. Great location by the water. Excellent selection. It's always a plus when you can enjoy a nice conversation with the owner of a business. I realize that's not possible in season but it was a nice "perk" and she's a gem and a hard worker. Be sure to visit when you're in town.
The fact that she cooks all her pastries herself and not some mass produced product really says it all!! I’ve been coming here off and on for four years. There is no other coffee shop I enjoy more in Newport!! She remembers my camel latte usual. It’s darn tasty. Add in the view and you get an absolutely fantastic coffee shop!
undeniably a thief. we ordered 4 coffees and 3 cookies and were charged $37!!! we were with guests and didn't want to throw a fit, but we were quite disgusted! and she has the nerve of having a large mug asking for tips in front of the counter! we will not return!!!
Not good. $4.00 for a small, luke warm coffee. When I asked the owner for a fresher or hotter coffee, she told me I was used to drinking DD coffee, which h I do not drink. But, we found the gem in this town just a few blocks away...Empire coffee, the real deal, great stuff!
The best coffee in Newport, and the fact that you can enjoy it right by the boats makes it all the more special.
Great location and coffee and ice cream
Solid little spot for a quick coffee or baked good.
Adorable little café to get a cup of coffee or pastry and overlook the yachts. Great atmosphere.
Great coffee and amazing pastries!
Medium coffee size of small at Dunkin donuts 1 med. Ice 1med. Hot $8.00 can not even imagine the small cup and that price. To me a RIP OFF
Be very careful!!!!!! Bought one regular coffee and one slice of blueberry bread.....$14.99!!!!!!! Called later to see if a mistake was made on my credit card charge....no mistake.....$6 coffee, $7 slice of bread! Also, only one server... Waited in line 20 minutes!!
A delightful little cafe right on the wharf/dock downtown. The owner works her butt off and is so kind. She’s been in this spot for a while and there’s a reason. A bit pricey but that’s expected for the location. Coffee drinks are great as are the baked goods, which the owner makes herself!
Great coffee and scenic location. Owner was very friendly. Terrific!
It may be small, but it offers almost every coffee concoction that you could think of. The staff were genuinely nice, helpful, and their recommendations were spot on. If you like coffee, you'll love it here. There are multiple Adirondack chairs overlooking the Wharf for you to sit and enjoy you coffee, ad well as a open air covered patio with tables and chairs overlooking the water.
Amazing location. However, on a busy day I would expect a line. For a Saturday, there was only one person working which was odd. I’m sure it’s situational, but that meant for a decent wait time. I ordered latte macchiato to which I was asked if I wanted it the ‘Starbucks caramel macchiato way’ or as a regular latte macchiato. Granted, I can see how that was a clarification question but it did make me feel slighted as a ‘basic millenial’. The drink was poured in front of me using froth that was sitting on the counter & an espresso shot sitting on the counter. Not fresh. I understand it was a busy day & the person was working alone but come on... I used a credit card and got the small beverage & a apple turnover. Which was somehow $12.15???? I don’t know if there was an up charge for credit card use - but if there was it was not clearly written because I would have just bought more stuff. If there was no up charge, that’s pretty expensive for two small items.
Beautiful setting, but I was charged $17 for an iced coffee and a cup of microwaved chowder.
Great coffee at low prices friendly help
Coffee and pastries right on the pier. Small shop with friendly service. Outdoor seating only.
ATTN: This cafe has a very misleading name. You should NOT expect to find a decent espresso based coffee here. Turns out they have not a slightest idea how to properly make it. It was a worst espresso I had in quite a few years. Just stick to the regular coffee and pastries here and you'll be fine.
Cozy little spot on the wharf for some good coffee, especially espressos.
My fiance recommended this coffee shop not just from the great location but the coffee and the conversations he shared with the owner. We are big into 'mom and pop' shops and this mom is fierce. I wish I could bottle up even a fraction of her work ethic for myself. We've enjoyed a few different coffees and the warmest hot chocolate during the winter months. Will be dragging friends and family to this hidden gem down the wharf. Her hours never disappoint.
Friendly staff. Great coffee and pastries. The dirty Chai was awesome, as was the view!
Delish!
Stopped by here while enjoying a stroll on the wharf To my knowledge it's the only coffee shop with a view of the water, and truly a perfect spot to sip your drink while enjoying the sunset! The owner works the shop herself, and you can really tell puts all of herself into it. Quality of the coffee and baked treats was exceptional, and she even gave our little man his very own "coffee" made with whip cream and chocolate syrup! 10/10 would visit again!
The Chai latte is great.
My wife and I stopped by Coffee Grinders on our recent trip to Newport with our two children. We instantly took to this little spot. What a great find. Fresh coffee, Tasty scones and muffins baked fresh each day by the owner and amazing views. You can't wrong.
You HAVE to check this place out when in Newport. I recommend getting up early and walking down to the end of Bannisters Wharf, order your coffee (which is sooo good!) and one of the many yummy homemade pastries and sit in one of the Adirondack chairs and relax. Watch all the yachts and marina views right infront of you to your hearts content. No better way to start a morning in Newport! (Try the chocolate chip bread pudding and thank me later
Very expensive for less than average coffee. Not worth it.
Friendly. Expert. Inviting. Casual. Family. Great coffee. Great pastries. Can't wait to cover back!
This coffee place is a total rip off. Hot coffee was served warm at best and tasted pretty bland. They have a small outdoor area next to the dock with a nice view. But for a coffee and muffin I was charged to 12 bucks and man I'm from NYC but they don't even rip customers off like this.
Great coffee and super friendly staff!
Love this place. Been coming here for years. Owner is amazing person.
Great coffee and friendly owner!
the monkey mocha was amazing!)
Good cup of coffee from this tiny shop. Enjoy it on the deck. "Chairs are for customers only!"
Went here about a month ago. Cute little shop, good coffee. BUT, if you are on a budget this is not the place to go. I ordered 2 small coffees, one was an americano, the other just normal coffee with a half squirt of chocolate. It came to almost $9! There was a line, so I didn't argue about it. Beware, think I was overcharged.
Great espresso overlooking the marina. Friendly service. Other reviews have said the price is too high, but you'll pay the same at Starbucks and this coffee is better and the location priceless.
Cozy hip atmosphere with homemade baked goods, beautiful view of the water, light espresso. Super nice shop owner.
Ordered two medium coffees no special bean as they only offer one. Plain black coffee as well as one with soy milk. It was over $10. Using soy milk is a .75 up charge. Crazy prices.
Love this charming, breezy spot on the marina ⛵
Nice location And pleasant service but it’s very expensive for what you get so just make sure you check on cost and not be surprised like I was
Great cuppoccino, on the harbor.
One of the places that you want to come again. The Coffee was good, everything fresh and tasty. The lady that works here, nice and friendly.
What a great little coffee, pastry and sandwich shop. It nestled away at the end of Bowens Wharf. I got a home made turkey sandwich, drink and a raspberry bar all for about $8. Almost unheard of especially in this tourist area. They have a small covered outdoor seating area that looks out on the crowded Newport harbor. You won't see much more than fantastic boats and yachts that you can dream of owning while sipping on your coffee.
Very friendly and inviting. Small place with a lots great options. Price was very reasonable.
Great spot. Nice staff. Way overpriced. $10 for a large coffee and apple turnover.
One cookie and a coffee 10$. Otherwise nice place to sit and have a coffee
The view was beautiful and the coffee was wonderful! The staff was also extremely friendly!
One of the nicer cafes I've been to. A great range of bread, quiche, cakes, and coffees. Amazing staff as well. Must visit!
Phenomenal cup of coffee. The service was very friendly. It was a quaint little shop on the water.
A cute, little shop filled with everything plus personality. We really enjoyed hanging out here. We received the friendliest service!
Very friendly staff and great coffee! We saw this place while walking at night time and came back the next day for coffee with a view! The regular coffee and frozen cappuccino did not disappoint, especially while looking out to the water in an Adirondack chair
A very cute spot with amazing Americano.
Thanks to exposure to lots of Aussies over the years these guys make an awesome long black!
Small and the line wasn't moving at all. Left before I got a cup
Excellent cafe - third wave coffee- just a dream to find this place in New Port! What a view! Thanks a lot for the good service and an excellent latte!!
Alyssa is fabulous and maybe the hardest worker we’ve ever encountered! Everything she makes is excellent and if you have to wait a few minutes, chill; it will be worth the wait. We will never come back to Newport without visiting every chance we get. Stop in; you’ll be glad you did!
Coffee Grinder gets NO stars. $5 for a very SMALL iced coffee (nothing special, just regular coffee) and charged us $5 for a Nantucket Nectar Lemonade...$5!!! We questioned the $11.32 bill assuming it MUST be a mistake and the women acted rude and offended. We sat at the Adirondack chairs and watched the same women be rude to people sitting on the benches, moving their things/packages from a table because she "needed it" (which she placed over a rope then walked away with no one seated at it). She could have waited until they left...again, rude. Skip this place, there are so many other coffee choices while walking along the waterfront to let this place ruin an otherwise beautiful day.
I, too had coffee at this establishment on Saturday, April 27. At 8:30 PM. The owner made fresh decaf available even though she was nearing closing time. It was delightful. So were the baked products we bought for later. The owner was also very personable and friendly. Go there, enjoy the coffee, the view and the good conversation.
This coffee shop received only 1 star because I wasn’t able to leave no stars!!! Do not waste your time with this coffee shop unless you want to spend a lot of money for horrible coffee. I went there for the 1st time today to try something new. I spent over $15.00 for 2 large lattes and had to throw both out because of how they tasted. Worst coffee I have ever had. When I called and spoke with the owner she could not be bothered. So once again do not waste your time with this shop!! Mokka coffee shop which is on Thames Street is absolutely wonderful and actually charge a fair price for their products. I should have just stayed with them.
Best coffee in newport!
Good coffee and treats, view and seating area is very relaxing
My go-to coffee shop whenever I'm in town! Super friendly staff and large selection of hot and cold beverages.
It's a nice coffee place with a beautiful view of the port. The lady at the counter was extremely polite and friendly. Coffee was good.
Great coffee and stunning view!
Definitely the most over paid coffee I've ever paid for. $7 for a "large" .. the large size was 6oz. And the small was 5oz... Coffee did taste like regular coffee.
This place is really cool in theory, but it’s not as cool when you’re standing in a 40 person line, dying for coffee at 9 am on a Saturday!
There is a very hard working respectable lady working here. She is truely sweet. Be kind... The food here is great, loved the coffee, the pricing is compairable to Starbucks and the quality is on par with Starbucks. Right on the warf, the location is spectacular, Coffee Grinder is a necessary part of the experience...
Love this sweet spot
This was a neat little coffee shop to stumble into. The coffee was good and who I think is the owner was very friendly and outgoing. I don't recall there being seating but you don't have to look far to bring your coffee to some seats or a bench. It's right on the water too. I didn't have a pastry but they looked delicious. I've had better coffee but I also went at night for an evening pick me up to drive back to Boston...so it was likely old coffee right before they were shutting down. If you need a late coffee though, this is the place to go. It's probably the only place serving coffee late into the night!
Excellent views, great service with lovely conversations with the owner and amazing coffee
Cool. Unique. Atmosphere Galore!
Best coffee shop in Newport with a warm and cheerful barista
Lovely! Just lovely!!
Excellent coffee, prepared by a former Chemist! Outdoor view, friendly owner, feels like a “secret” find.
medium cakes, medium coffee, expensive prices, great views.
Pretty normal in terms of food and staff, but what an incredible view! There are view things better than sipping coffee in the morning and watching boats sway in the waves.
I am in love with this place!
Lovely coffe shop but very small
$17 for 2 coffee and one banana cake. Could not even get change for parking.
Very friendly and good prices, especially for on the wharf. Lots of baked goods made by the owner. Beautiful view of the harbor and very smooth coffee.
Nice shop. Great coffee. A little pricey.
Very quaint coffee shop in the heard of Bowman's wharf. Try it and you'll love it too! Excellent views of the water. All their baked goods are fresh!
Great coffee and great views and environment!
If you look for good coffee and great atmosphere, come to the Coffee Grinder. If you are looking for a wifi connection, turn back to Starbucks to have an average coffee looking at your screen.
The coffee was excellent, but it was the Adirondack chairs for drinking it harbor-side that made it perfect.
Amazing delicious..great location!
Wonderful little find.
Coffee out of a thermos. Mine wasn't even hot. Muffins were good.
Only one worker, take too long to attend , coffee tasted bad and overall expensive.
Great location on the wharf and very good home baked goods. Would return next time in newport.
Best coffee in the best spot in Newport.
Great coffee served by a small local business at the end of a pier, what's not to love. Service is a bit slow as the kitchen is tiny and only the owner works here most days. The coffee is great though and served in awesome hug cups. The pastries are pretty good too and she'll even heat them up for you. Cash only. Grab a table on the pier or one of the Adirondack chairs for a relaxing morning view of the yachts and harbor. You might even make friends with the owner of one of the super yachts and get invited for a day out.
Wonderful little shop with great coffee and even better conversation!
Great coffee!
If you love Granitas from Italy, they make them here! Move over Starbucks! This place rocks! 5 stars for the lady that owns the place.
$35 USD ($48 CAD) for three drinks and two baked goods - there were no prices on items so you're surprised when she rings you up. Ridiculous prices
