A great hometown coffee shop, located in downtown Burnsville. You must try their Ethiopian coffee. It is amazing. If you are hungry, while you are at it, enjoy a light lunch menu selection and then enjoy a pastry. They have a nice selection of fresh donuts, pastries and desserts. Take time to go upstairs to their loft, where you will find plenty of comfortable seating, to include a 90" wide screen Flat screen TV. The owners welcome you like family.

Best coffee I've ever had. Wonderful and friendly staff. The food is unique, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. I highly recommend the Southwest Salad or the Greek Grilled Cheese on a croissant. They also have amazing homemade desserts and pastries. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a cozy coffee shop, with exposed brick and rustic barnwood throughout. It's a place you want to hang out all day.

I stopped by here on the way out from AVL. Although it was very busy, I received prompt service for a reasonable cost. They had several serve coffees available and seating upstairs, downstairs, and out doors. I would go again if I had to make a stop in this town. Going by a few other stops I have made in this area, I would say this is one of the better venues around.

Highly recommend Appalacian Java for specially coffees and an array of desserts. Although busy, there is additional seating upstairs. The staff is knowledgeable and very gracious. We are from Raleigh, but have found a second home. Owners Calvin and Angie go out of their way to make your experience perfect. I loved their pumpkin bread, moist and flavorful, to complement my coffee. Know you will enjoy yourself here.

My favorite Coffee Shop at the moment! I had the most delicious lunch as we strolled thru town: Vegetarian quiche with salad and Pecan coffee with fantastic strawberries, giant strawberries covered with black and white chocolate; price was simply fair, fair enough to make one come back often. Thanks both owners such a fine couple, making all the difference.. Staff was nice and happy.

Forget Starbucks. If you want a great selection fantastic coffee, excellent food and desserts, look no further than Appalachian Java. The staff is always helpful and friendly. They have limited outdoor seating as well as an upstairs if the lower level is full.

Right next to the Something Special Gift Shop is a coffee shop, cafe, donut shop that has the best custard filled donuts I have eaten in my 70 years of food addiction. Finding this cafe was one of the highlights of our Burnsville visit from where we were staying in Little Switzerland just 25 minutes away. Burnsville town leaders like owners of this shop have preserved the charm and character of a 200 year old small town better than any I have seen across the USA. Just a few feet from the shop is a town center square with benches under 100+ year old shade trees providing a park like setting suited to a movie set. We had our donuts and coffee sitting on the bench in this idyllic setting with our 5 pound Yorkie, who shared the donut with us. A true hidden gem just 45 minutes NW of Asheville, NC, this family business epitomizes American family life and small business ownership. If you love great coffee and donuts visit this cafe and historic town. You will not be disappointed.

I would have given higher rating as the store was immaculate but the three girls behind the counter never once greeted us and acted as if though we were a nuisance to them for having to stop their cleaning to wait on us. The coffee and food was top notch. However, a greeting by one of the three young ladies would have been appreciated and less attitude even if it was 5 pm in the evening and they were cleaning. First impressions are everything.

Great tasting and high-quality coffee, treats and food served with the friendliness of a small town. We got build your own sandwiches; I got egg, sausage and veggies (peppers, onions and avocados) on sourdough. Delicious! Had a cup of Pecan Swirl blend of coffee and had to buy a pound to enjoy later. We also got a slice of pumpkin bread to enjoy at camp that night: super delicious and moist. The staff was very friendly, especially since they were slammed being that it was Sunday morning and they were the only place open in the town. Cannot reccomend this place enough.

They managed to achieve a level of hospitality that somehow goes further that what would otherwise be "above and beyond". The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and always had smiles on their faces. 10 out of 5 stars. Drinks. Warm, tasty, comforting. Nothing is better to escape the cold than a hot cup of coffee or a comforting cup of tea. I thoroughly enjoyed my dirty spice chai and my Appalachian Fog. Highly recommend. Food. Fresh, comforting, aromatic, and positively delicious. I really don't know what else to say. Everything here is crafted with a sense of love and it definitely shows in the food. If you find yourself in Burnsville, NC, or even just passing by and want a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy lunch or coffee/tea, then Appalachian Java is a must!

We visited on vacation and ordered breakfast to go only to realize both entrees were wrong when we opened them. They were so busy it would have been more trouble than it was worth to take our food back. There was no where to wait for your order to be ready, a very small shop with empty dirty tables. I will say the owners greeted us after they arrived, but they did not work to clear tables so more people could sit. The young ladies behind the counter seemed frazzled without much support or direction to make it through a rush.

- The staff needs to be educated on what they serve. - The staff needs to pay attention to the customers and get the orders right. - For example : "Traditional Green Tea" is NOT the same as "Tropical Green Tea" and vice versa. Customers always expect fresh squeezed oranges in their "Orangeades".

We came on motorcycles, in need for a light and tasty snack and beverages. We were not disappointed. My recommendation: Try the original Ham & Apple Press sandwich. Sooo good! One of the best sandwiches I ever had -- and living in Asheville means I'm spoiled with good food. No wonder this place is humming.
