I love everything about this place! We had breakfast here. I had a breakfast bowl with bacon, potatoes, egg and cheese... hold the chile and salsa. It was perfect. My husband had a breakfast sandwich and we shared biscuits and gravy. Yum! Prices reasonable, service was great.

The Blue House is definitely a staple for anyone that has lived in Carlsbad. All my friends and I would go here when we were in high school, college, and now our careers. The Atmosphere is quintessential small town coffee house. The coffee is always phenomenal and the owners and staff really get to know the community that comes in and out and treats them with such amazing hospitality. A must for sure.

We visited on the Saturday after Thanksgiving before heading to Carlsbad Caverns. This place was busy, but the line moved quickly and the staff was very friendly. We ordered breakfast burritos with green chili and cheese, plus (for an extra charge) sausage for one and asparagus + potato for the other. These were spicy and delicious. The only thing that would have made our visit better was if we could have enjoyed their cute front garden with our traveling dog, but instead we got everything to go because only service animals are allowed here (even outdoors).

Delicious breakfast and coffee! Great atmosphere indoor and outdoor. Very friendly service. We visited on a Saturday morning recently. We were there by 9:00 a.m. and the Blue House was already crowded. There was a line of customers waiting to place their order stretching around the counter blocking all of the coffee dispensers. Customers who had already placed their order were forced to cut through the line to fill their coffee cups. There were only two vacant seats visible with almost a dozen customers in line. We decided to leave and get our breakfast and coffee elsewhere. Blue House is still our favorite. It appears that it is the favorite of a lot of other people, too. This is the first time I have seen Blue House this crowded, but it has been increasingly busy as word gets around about their great coffee, food, and service. My rating remains 5 stars. I only hope that the Blue House can either expand their hours or add more space before they lose their main appeal, the cozy homey atmosphere.

I totally adore this place. I was a somewhat regular for over a year and a half and they knew my drink choice (even before I said it), they were always happy to see me. The ambiance is typical of a much bigger, yuppy, trendy coffee shop. They're only open till noon, but their breakfast menu is great, mostly healthy, and the WiFi was fast. Great little artsy place, too. I hope this helps someone.

We've heard nothing but good things from friends so we had to try for ourselves. It really does feel like a home, along with the hustle and bustle of a big family. There was a good amount of parking, which were thankful for, and we got there relatively early. It had a sort of "beat the rush" mentality, because once some of the baked goods are sold out, that's it. There was an okay amount of outdoor seating, and we instantly got a "locals" vibe from it. We made our way inside and we were surprised by how cramped it felt. For our first visit, we didn't feel it was very friendly to us... we more or less had to shuffle around the entrance a few times trying to find a menu, trying to read the signs without bumping into anyone, and making room for people trying to get in and out with their to-go orders. There seemed to be a lot of folks just having coffee and sitting reading the paper, which seemed very cozy to us. I had the spinach and feta croissant and fully-loaded egg bowl, and ordered a round each of French toast for the rest of the family. I had a cappuccino and my wife had a mocha latte. The place was VERY busy, so the staff was a little rushed and didn't have a lot of time to be extra friendly or extra attentive, which we totally understood. The atmosphere had this organized chaos feel, that if we visited again, we would probably have been way more comfortable with. It's like having your whole extended family and everyone is trying to eat and get ready before starting a family trip. People get bumped into, a casual smile, and you need to get what you need and move. We were a little lost on if we needed to wait for our drinks or food, or how to bus our table afterwards, but we got lucky with one of the staff members taking pity on our confused looks. We had to wait to the side for our drinks, but they brought the food to us outside. The staff members that came outside were very friendly and attentive to any dishes collecting in the outside bin. Overall, the drinks and food were pretty standard. The reason you would come here would be the homemade baked goods, the special treats like rosemary cookies, and the cozy, home feeling this place provides. Your first visit may be a mess, but I think if we lived in Carlsbad this would be our spot for mornings and weekends for sure. There's more I wish we could have tried.

No dogs allowed on the front porch/yard. In Texas a restaurant has to purchase an additional permit for dogs on porches, did Blue House not want to do this or is it different health rules here?

They make everything from scratch so if they run out of something you'll have to get there earlier the next day! Very popular place with the locals & tourists (like us)! Really cute place. Great breakfast food, great coffee, overall a great experience. I truly would have liked to have given five stars, my only complaint is that the girl that was working at the front(thin, brown shoulder length hair) was abnormally rude. All of the other staff seemed to be friendly and helpful. I hate to leave a negative comment at all, but she was super sarcastic and actually a little mean to me for no reason at all. I have worked in customer service and totally understand people can have a bad day here and there, but she really did cross the line a bit with her comments and overall negative attitude towards me. It kind of put a damper on my otherwise pleasant breakfast experience.

If you go to Carlsbad make a beeline for this quaint, fabulous breakfast cafe. Fluffy eggs adorned with chiles and cheese with options of bacon, ham, sausage, potatoes and/or asparagus served on toast, ciabatta, croissant or tortilla. Several kinds of fresh brewed coffee plus an assortment of espresso drinks, all at reasonable prices. And the pastries and cookies all homemade on the premises...let's just say my eyes were bigger than my stomach, but the friendly staff will put them in a bag to take with you. Come early to get the pastries as they go fast. There's a reason why Blue House Bakery and Cafe ranks up there with the Caverns as one of the most popular places in Carlsbad. The caverns may feed the soul, but this place feeds the body and wow, do they do it right.

We visited Blue House as the “Breakfast” portion of their collaboration with the Fiddler’s Inn B&B a couple of blocks away. Great little bakery with a mix of both locals and tourists coming in for breakfast, with a good many staying to eat and relax in their pretty courtyard.
