This cake was ordered for a 30th birthday party. I was very disappointed in the outcome. For a cake that was ordered over a month in advance I expected better. The cake had a dip in the front cake with a poorly half done “fix” in the lettering. I expected better for the pricing of this cake and reputation this establishment USED to have. It was embarrassing showing this cake to an entire party of people. Honestly look elsewhere if you are having a special event.

I recently got married in Princeton, NJ and chose Chez Alice to design my wedding cake. I had done a few tastings in the area (including a well-known bakery in Philadelphia) and Chez Alice was by far the best. Matt was wonderful to work with- I came into our meeting with so many questions and uncertainties about what design I wanted, and Matt provided fantastic guidance. Chez Alice created the perfect wedding cake that we loved and our guests raved about. The design was stunning- and it was even more delicious. Working with Chez Alice was so easy: they were professional, were very respective of our price range, and created an unforgettable cake for our wedding!

Updated review August 2019: back down to 3 stars. Place never seems to have the ingredients to make half its menu. It's common to have to go through two or three items on their menu because they somehow don't have bacon this day or ham that day or chicken the next. Updated review March 2019: up from 3 to 5 stars. Chez Alice recently did some slight redesign and remodeling. The new look is more clean and contemporary, the menu is now more streamlined and modern, the art is less wacky and easier on the eyes, and they've finally moved into the 21st century and got rid of their $10 credit card minimum.

It has a great atmosphere, but we just had a weird experience when we were inside. The chai latte we got was more like a tea with a dollop of milk froth on top. The manager was also having a discussion with a customer about a cake that was being ordered and the discussion was more like an argument. The pastries that were on display were falling apart a bit as well. All that being said, I would go back and give it another try.

For 75 bucks i got a ten inch cake dipped in pure sugar syrup ! There was no taste of vanilla or chocolate whatsoever, but sugar. Just sweet sugar. The cake that actually charge $40 they charged me 35extra just for a very simple decoration. Infact they told me they don't have time for a nice decoration. This was for my baby shower ! None of my guests liked it and it's all wasted now ! I don't think I deserved this in $75. On top of that very rude lady at the reception. She didn't greet neither was polite to talk to.

The cakes are divine if you get what you ordered, it is a logistictical nightmare trying to order one. Past 6 orders I have made (3 by phone 3 in store), have resulted in pure 100% aggravation and wasted time. Twice I left with a different cake than ordered just to keep myself in check. The wait staff are very kind but just don’t seem to be up to the task.

Bought a wedding cake from here, the girl who conducted our consultation was remarkably rude. The cake was absolutely nothing like was promised us, gold leaf falling off, we had to turn it around to expose the undecorated side for photos. Incredibly expensive as well, we did not get what we paid for

I have one word to describe our experience....AWESOME. We bought the a birthday cake for our little princess from Chez Alice Bakery The owner customized the cake for us as we wanted animal themed cake. Took us almost 1 hr to finalize the design but he was very patient and resourceful. We were a little wary because it was a little expensive. However, when the cake arrived we were stunned. It was absolutely gorgeous cake and everyone at the party went gaga over the cake. The cake not only looked good but the chocolate mousse cake tasted amazing. It was really worth the money and then some more. I would highly recommend this bakery.

I love this place. I go here every Sunday morning for breakfast before church and everyone who works here is very sweet. Make sure to bring cash because they have a minimum of $10 charge to use your credit card.

Chez Alice's bakery portion outshines their cafe, which in turn outshines their lackluster service. Their flourless chocolate cake has a density that no single cake deserves, and their fruit tarts have a lovely, light custard that matches the freshness of the fruit. Sandwiches, though, are merely okay, and i've gotten wilty salad leaves. Staff appears to dislike their jobs and won't bother to acknowledge you if you're not a regular.

Great croissant breakfast sandwiches, excellent coffee and surprisingly good WiFi. I've never tried the pastries or cakes (because I always want a breakfast sandwich) but they're all baked in house and Chez Alice supplies many if the local establishments .

This is my favorite place in Princeton!!! It's an absolutely quaint and no-frills cafe with awesome sandwiches, okay coffee, and stellar cakes. Always always always get dessert here, be it pastries, tarts, or cakes!! They're soooo good! Every sandwich I tried has been absolutely delicious!

Best place to go for almond croissants! This is my go to place when I am in Princeton for their baked goods. They also have a selection of brewed coffee, cappuccino, espresso as well as breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and healthy options.

Good cake - terrible customer service. For my daughter's first birthday, I ordered a cake two weeks in advance, but when we came to pick it up it wasn't ready - had to wait 25 mins! The cake decoration was questionable - they gave me a green monkey with pink eyes. To top it off, the cake was wrong. It was supposed to be chocolate and vanilla and instead it was strawberry. Management was apologetic , but didn't really fix the situation. I guess when you work in Princeton, you don't think you need to do anything to keep customers. I will not be purchasing anything from them in the future.

I have been going to this place for a few years now, and today service and food was not up to par. Looks like they got all new staff. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and only half the of the ingredients were on it. The chicken tasted like it just came out the fridge. Coworker ordered a egg n cheese sandwich on wheat toast n the bread was not toasted so it was soggy from the heat. Not sure what happened here, but I don't think I will be eating here for awhile unless things change.

The Jalapeno Chicken Panini was really good and my wife really enjoyed her Roasted Turkey Panini with asparagus, said it was, "fresh, hot and delicious!" We bought a cake here also, the Black & White cake, it was creamy, rich & delicious and only $30. We found easy meter parking at 3pm on a weekday by Ann Taylor, behind Chez Alice. It may be different when you go.

Service was slower than would be expected. The iced chai tea latte was really good. The chicken Caesar wrap tasted good but fell apart pretty easily. Prices were slightly higher than most cafes.

Stopped here to warm up while it was snowing outside. We ate a bowl of sweet corn chowder and a croissant and had a chai latte to drink. The soup was hot, delicious, perfect comfort food on a chilly day. The chai latte was very delicious too, but I was annoyed when they charged me a whole dollar more for soy milk. Great place, a little over priced.

It's been few years since I ordered first birthday cake from Chez Alice bakery, and since then they are my favorite place for birthday cakes. They always make delicious not too sweet cakes with beautiful decorations. This year I ordered cake which I wanted to look as a red fire alarm ( for my son) they did excellent job! My son absolutely love it! Very talented cake makers. Highly recommended!

The staff and food were amazing for our wedding. They made sure everything went smoothly once the staff arrived and took care of all the guests. They provided gluten and lactose free options and kept all areas of the venue clean. My one critique was that the staff did not know who the bride or groom were prior to the ceremony and so there was some confusion relating to set up and food allergies. Our coordinator Paula, however, was perfect! She was always on top of everything, never missed a beat, and kept us informed the entire night. We could not have had a successful wedding without her. She was our rock the whole night! I would rate her a 5 out of 5.
