REVIEWS OF Mocha Joe's Cafe IN New Hampshire

Anita Mendes

I went with a friend to Mocha Joes on First Friday in Brattleboro, Vt. The place was busy. My friend & I were hungry & thirsty. Itching to be served quuckly, I found the staff person ready to share options, willing to answer questions we had & to explain, clearly what he knew we didn't understand. It made me comfortable enough to make sure we visit the next time we are in Brattleboro. It was fun. Anita Mendes

I got all sorts of trouble and that look for daring to ask that the shots be poured directly into the cups. People don't seem to realize you lose so much crema when you transfer. You can use a scale instead of a measuring cup. Even more efficient and you don't have to transfer!

Chris Mazur

Hip subterranean coffee bar. Lattes were perfectly made and coffee cake was delicious. Counter staff were excellent, helpful, cheerful. A really welcoming place

Samantha Fisher

The baristas are some of the best people I've met. And the coffee is outstanding! It's the grand slam combo of greatness that most modern coffee places lack.

Liode Dryke

Quick, friendly service. Calm atmosphere, good prices.

Rachael Quinn

Love, love, love this coffee shop. Always super friendly and the best coffee around. I drive from CT for this place because I love it so much!

Cole von Richthofen

A Brattleboro staple. Love their Vermate Latte. Their Maple Latte could use a little more maple, otherwise also very good. This place has chess if you want to stay a while, very cool little hangout. Not good for big groups but who needs em anyhow

David Unger

An institution. Was last here 20 years ago, and stopped in while passing through town and the place is still rocking.

Trevor Lastname

Good

Joseph Kaming-Thanassi

Seriously good cappuccino here. They do it right. One of my favorite cafes in the country.

Karisa

Great coffe, very friendly staff

Christopher Peck

Goldilocks coffee—strong but not over-roasted. Pleasantly bookish crowd. Cuba photos. Big leather couch and plenty of café tables. Music not loud enough to interfere with chatting. Fine selection of fresh baked sweets.

Michael Moore

Cool quirky espresso bar and has a great atmosphere.

D Scott

Quaint little place. A new employee was making my beverage so I was a little worried and it took a while, but it came out great! Kudos to her!

Julie's bites

Brattleboro has two Mocha Joe locations: the cafe and the corporate office. If you enter the sign the west location you will find yourself in a funiture store, the movha Joe office location is in the back. The lady in the store patiently explained that this happens all the time. She told us how to find the cafe on the East end of the Main street. The cafe sells coffee as well as beans in bulk. The cost is very decent $8 for a bag (probably 12oz). They have both French roast and light roast.

Paul O'Brien

Good coffee, cosy and friendly

Edmund Fournier

Poor service. Worse coffee (scorched milk cappucino in a standard coffee mug) Decent space though. Edit: Thank you to the owner for the kind reply. You're absolutely right, people including myself have off days from time to time. Apologies for the hastey review. I'll give it another go next time I visit Brattleboro. However, I would recommend getting some more traditional cups & saucers for serving cappuccino, lattes etc for your guests who decide to enjoy their drink in the shop.

Nakita Richards

Cute cozy place for a meeting or doing some work, lots of knowledgeable and friendly staff who can make you smile. Was disappointed when they stopped selling the unique specialty immune boosting tea over the winter but still advertised it, but I still love coming herw

Amy

Adorable space with great local coffee and pastries! Quiet, working room, and plenty of sun! Service was excellent.

Lisa Mitchell

Love the atmosphere.

This place made me feel uncomfortable. Friendly enough staff though

Thomas Fris

Great people, great product, great education, great experience, and now their great Joe back in my kitchen here in the Empire State

James England

Best cup of coffee in Brattleboro! If you want a cozy place to get out from the cold, have a great cup of coffee and read a book -- this is the place. Warm, comfortable atmosphere and artisan-tier coffee. Convenient walking distance from the college and co-op.

D Boyer

Excellent coffee

Russell Brown

Awesome variety of delicious cafe drinks on the menu, great atmosphere and cheerful friendly service. Loved it!

Laurel Shortell

A favorite! I appreciate the cozy setting and have many meaningful memories of this hidden gem.

Riley Farabaugh

Mocha Joes is a staple of Brattleboro. Go here for coffee while discovering the downtown scene. Meet a new friend. Meet an old friend. The atmosphere at Mocha Joes is calm, intimate, and friendly. Not sure that they have wifi or food, though.

oof off

Best coffee

Good Farm

Gem in Brattleboro's main drag. Delicious coffee, friendly staff, cozy seating and plenty of gf, df and delicious pastries. They'll even get you a chemex of coffee if you want to hang around. Very inexpensive refills.

Mark Pompian

Great coffee, great atmosphere

Ben Smith

very good coffee

Joshua Rosen

Bought a bag of a Zambian medium roast, it's a good smooth coffee, not particularly distinctive.

Doran Hamm

Great coffee lovely staff sweet spot to cozy up

Aimee B.

I’m not a huge fan of this place - the coffee isn’t great and it’s always super packed with a loud scene. I stick to Amy’s Bakery for coffee instead.

Joe Ruggero

Driving down 91 and desperate for a proper coffee, we found this place and I could not have been happier. The coffee was excellent, the place very cosy and everything appropriately priced.

Joshua Makowski

Best coffee I've had

Ben Janis

Great coffee, snacks, and other hot drinks. The only downside is the usual line to order, and the lack in seating, but the food and beverage quality definitely makes up for it.

Talor Stewart, Architect

Local hangout. Free Wi-Fi, the coffee had a sour flavor which I don't care for, and it is in a basement, not easy access.

Sadie Norcross

The acoustics are terrible in this place. I would equate the sound level with a loud busy bar. Not what I expect in a coffee shop and I'm no coffee shop novice. The coffee was ok but not at the level I expect either.

Ralph Reed

Generals Curtis LeeMay, George MacArthur, the Michelin Man's safety team's engineers -- very few might merit the ethereal fifth star -- but Mocha Joe's did.

This Guy

A cozy coffeeshop located in the heart of Brattleboro, serving a variety of drinks. Friendly staff, good coffee.

Anthony Scerra

Great coffee at good prices

Barney Fyfe

Coffee? You love coffee? You want coffee? Ya gotta go to Mocha Joe's Cafe. Brattleboro... Probably the most entertaining people watching town in Vermont. Love it!

Geran Miter

They do, indeed, serve a mean mocha.

Daniel Gousy

I stop here almost any trip that I make to Brattleboro - the coffee is great, as are the baked items, and it is just a damned comfortable place to sit and pass the time in nice little town.

Pieter van Cort

One of the best independent cafes I've been too

Ryan Brown

One of the best roasters around love their coffee however buying brewed coffee on store might not be the best idea it's made with a auto drip you're going to get better coffee buying the beens and making a pour over or something like that. Espresso is good though.

Michael McCosker

It is a decent cup of coffee, and all of their coffee beans are fair trade, so you know you are helping a good cause. Personally, I'm not a fan of the super cramped inside of the coffee shop, but I know a lot of people like it. So, 4/5 stars.

Tammie Marland

Was very nice. But ran out of Raspberry

Anthony Jaffee

Good coffee, laid back, plenty of cozy places to sit, friendly barista

Lacey Beetham

The best coffeehouse ever! Sometimes I visit just to smell the bean aroma :)

Ashleigh Adams

Great vibe, great coffee, chilled seating area to unwind.

Adam Krell

A popular coffee shop that reflects the ambiance of Brattleboro with its thriving arts community. Friendly baristas, a wide selection of drinks, freshly roasted beans and fast Wi-Fi makes it a place you want to keep coming back to. We really enjoyed our multiple visits and took home a bag of their coffee beans. A real delight.

silvia uatari

Dr. Steven Anthony Sola

Coffee is superb -- Mocha Joe's roasts their own. Back in the 60's atmosphere.

Christopher Fuller

Fun and funky coffee house, great coffee. Baked treats are available if you feel the need. It appears to be underground from the street but it is still bright inside. Just about the friendliest Barista I've ever met.

Francesco Milito

One of my favorite coffee shops in the whole country! I'm really not exaggerating. Great feel, great coffee, great people!

Remi Anderson

Good baked goods and coffee

Alice Revis

Thossen Kent

William Johnson

Good strong coffee.

Lloyd McKenzie

A great place for coffee. Help is very friendly

Glennie Sewell

Super nice people and good snacks and coffee --

Linus Mearian

If it was larger id give it 5 stars. However its downside is also a great upside. Friendly baristas and AMAZING coffee, tea and specialty drinks. Very cozy and very Bratt. We never miss it when we pass through Brattleboro.

Patrick McLoud

Great coffee, friendly staff, off-beat atmosphere. Sometimes a bit scruffy around the edges; restroom could be cleaner.

Julie McKeon

Super fun spot for people watching. Latte was excellent as was the Brazilian blend. Marshmallow mystery bar was delicious. Very crowded. Staff were very pleasant.

Ted Lemon

Great coffee, nice people. The scones are nice too if you get there early enough.

EN HY

Best coffee shop in town. Eclectic, true to the very spirit of Brattleboro. A great place to read, write, play chess, get work done. Of course, most of all, it is a fabulous place to enjoy a range of hot and cold beverages. For those of us who want to freeze, they even sell iced coffee and espresso drinks in the winter. My favorite iced drink is an iced americano. So delicious there is no need to add anything but a paper(!) straw. For hot drinks I either have a few things mixed from the tea selections (which 'loose leaf'), or a soy maple latte as a treat. They make the best in town, in my opinion. Mocha Joe's also has fresh baked muffins, scones, and other goodies that are made locally and delivered first thing in the morning. The scones are so delicious, I have a struggle to limit myself to just one. The baristas are some of the most fun and friendly people I've met in town. If anyone who works there reads this, I think you are fantastic! Mocha Joe's also has a particularly nice selection of bulk coffee in whole bean form, which can be ground to one's liking. The beans are a variety of fair trade, equal exchange, and other things great for the coffee farmers and the environment. They even have a certificate from a provincial (?) government related to coffee agriculture. Also, great music, great rotating art on the walls, free WiFi, and seems pretty much dog friendly, pet or assistance animal. Highly, highly recommend!

Liz Lord

The best coffee going... and I've ordered from all over.

Robert Parks

vibe of a beat-era subterranean nook

Joaquin Borofsky

Mocha joes has and always will be a pioneer in coffee quality, espresso art variation, and employing interesting staff. The lines can be brutal but it's well worth the wait.

Sarah Brown

Super friendly staff and delicious cold brew!

Forest Zabriskie

This place is very Brattleboro. Great coffee, great baked goods, and a nice community vibe.

Nicholas Corso

Great joe and brownies!

j hwang

Nice cozy little coffee shop to sit down, relax, and people watch. The barista was nice and friendly. I got a maple latte just to be in the New England/VT spirit. It was really good but not overly sweet. Very mapley! I would definitely drop by again the next time I'm visiting the area.

Tristan Leeds

Tiny basement style java purveyor with mucho local & international flair. Most of the beverages are custom made and reasonably priced.

Magda

Good coffee

Stephen Crewson

Testament to the quality of coffee, we're now ordering it and having it shipped to Canada ... Thx for the great customer service to go along with the great coffee.

Thomas

First time I ever been there was today, great Mocha latte, very nice employees, my friends from Boston loved the place, and really liked Vermont. They purchased a few lbs of coffee to take home with them and share with all there friends.

Richard Madara

This coffee here is awesome. Definitely recommend.

purple unicornpee

Great beverages. Staff can be very rude

Asa Martin

Awesome coffee, great lattes, chai, hot chocolate, whatever you want. I recommend the maple latte, or go with whatever seasonal drink they have on the menu. Baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended. We always stop here when passing through.

Clay Turnbull

Many other reviews point out the positives of this wonderfully funky spot so I’ll just add two things; they roast their own beans just down the block, and sometimes when business is hopping there can be a short wait. Because they make so many complex coffee creations the wait can sometimes approach 5-8 minutes which in Vermont is no big deal — good chance to practice a few deep breaths and to appreciate the eclectic humanity around you. Also notice the closing hour—not a place to go after the show.

jennifer parker

Maybe The Best little cafe on the planet. Top quality coffees and teas and helpful friendly staff. Laid back Vermonty atmosphere

Christian Miller

Cozy little nook! Always has unique artwork and the maple latte is to die for! The staff has always been super friendly too!!

Stan Payne

Mocha Joe's Cafe is a very decent coffee company that carries fair trade organic coffee beans. They brew their own coffee in house by grinding down whole beans. Their staff are very friendly and welcoming and they strive to meet your needs. The cafe has free Wi-Fi. Mocha Joe's Dark Roast is my personal favorite and only one cup of it gets me going throughout the day. They do sell bags of coffee on premise as well as select stores throughout the region. Just stop in today and enjoy a cup of joe with some pastries. You cannot go wrong with organic coffee!

Faith Kelly

Good coffee, awkward experience.

Jason Alves

It's an experience. Good coffee.

Joshua Leake

Literally underground, this little coffee shop is perfect. Delicious drinks, great beans, a snug space to sip and enjoy and hang out with a friend or two.

Ali & Stéphanie Makupal

The cafe itself is so-so (looks a bit dated), but the coffee is PHENOMENAL. Without a doubt, the best cappuccino and best coffee I've ever had. Bought a bunch of coffee beans to take with me on my travels (my suitcase smells divine because of it) -- can't wait to try them out!

Brendan Owens

Best roaster in New England, and the competition is stiff.

Bobby Hill

Good coffee

Christine Downing

Great ice coffee!

matt downing

Great little place. Great coffee and tea. I would suggest adding muffins or something, though. Very cozy

David Longsmith

The best in town! High end coffee, great snacks, comfy couch. A local institution!

Jeff Hobbs

PROS: Good coffee. Great location right downtown. CONS: Slightly cramped, lots of customers (probably a good problem for them to have)!

Emmery Jones

Favorite place for coffee

Helen routhier

Coffee was horrible! When I asked the baristas about it, the looked at me funny. Never offered another choice or refund and they were laughing at me behind my back because I didn’t like their coffee. Definitely won’t be back!

Hdgunnell

Went in for the first time and asked for an Iced Mocha Coffee. They told me they had no iced coffee but could make me a iced mocha with a shot of espresso...now in my mind I'd assume that's an iced latte, and the price would suggest that as well. After waiting about 10+ minutes (it was busy and they told me it'd be a few minutes) I got my drink. It looked nice as did the other drinks I saw. I tried it and it was awful. I'm not sure if what I got was a mistake or just something I've never bad before. It had almost no notable taste. It didn't taste like mocha, espresso, or even coffee. If I had to guess they made me an Americano but man it was bad. I don't like feeling like I've wasted my money. Maybe I'll try again in the future. It was small but had a nice atmosphere.

mike G

They must have the same air conditioner from the 70s

Peter Lewko

Had an excellent flat white here

Andrew Landes

Maple latte was delicious, as was the congo bar. The GF had a chai tea latte, which was very spicy and took about 10 minutes to be served. Place is very quaint and could be a great place to relax while sipping on a cup of their brew. Definitely worth the stop.

Andor Kish

Maple latte was pure enjoy in a cup.

Josiah Sterling

Really good flat white. It would be great if I could have their different varieties as espresso.

Susan Jett-Motta

My favorite cup of coffee in the world!

Ben Schaeffer

Mocha Joe's, The Book Cellar and the Brattleboro Food Co-op were ALWAYS my last stops in Brattleboro before I went ANYWHERE else. I went to college down in the Amherst/Northampton area, and ALL of my apartment mates were addicted to Mocha Joe's coffee, except I would NEVER tell them where the café was, or where I got the coffee from, because I considered Mocha Joe's my "secret find" when it came to coffee. That's how much I love Mocha Joe's.

Lee Kelley

Very cool atmosphere. The people were friendly and my drink came out perfect. Overall it was a very good experience and will come back when we're in the area.

Victoria Anderson

Nice little coffee chop with low key vibe and very friendly staff

Greg Stewart

Good place to stop for a refreshment. Try the chocolate monkey.

Quebec Charlie

Flavorful coffee, great chai and an, intimate atmosphere. Great place to crack a book or join a game of chess, the latter a stable at the shop.

Patrick Brown

Counter staff and atmosphere are great. Very convenient on Brattleboro main drag (parallel to river). Coffee is so so. Had maple latte. Temperature of expresso and milk barely warm (not HOT, and no design in latte milk on this Sunday morning ☹️), but had a clean taste. Would have preferred to try their decaf, but forgot until after ordering. Love the free local journalism and handouts on area happenings near entrance, so you can soak-up the local vibe.

Frederick Learey

Always good coffee, kind service, yummy treats, comfortable atmosphere.

Nate & Margaret Shipman

Always good.

Nickleen Faucher

Excellent coffee. I'm never here long enough but it looks like a great spot to sit down with a book and sip coffee.

Matthew Steele

Best coffee in Brattleboro hands down! The Costa Rican roast is my favorite. Friendly staff, enjoyable atmosphere. Just visited from New York grabbed a souvenir mug and a pound of whole bean which they ground for me to go.

Karen Rathbun

James Wright

Best coffee anytime

Ea Maples

Chas Anderson

Just a very cool place... Coffee plus all of downtown Brattleboro !

Josh Clapper

Great coffee and friendly staff. Also featuring unconventional (and delicious) baked goods - think gingerbread blondie

Raymond Gagnon

Hip coffee shop in downtown Brattleboro

Timothy Hoffman

Mocha Joe's Cafe is one of my favorite coffee spots in the world! Beyond being in wonderful Brattleboro, this Cafe has everything that makes a place worth going back to every chance you get. Their coffee is delicious and well made by friendly barristas. They got a selection of snacks for whatever your mood. I do miss their best treat ever, their used to be an international renowned pastry chef in Brattleboro making marbelized brownies. They were desserts worthy of royalty. I'll always drop in whenever I'm in town, have a cup of joe, and check to see if they've got brownies.

Matthew Young

My 2 favorite things put together, expresso and chocolate!

Jacob Goo

Sweet dankness. Such superbness

John Ramsaur

Great coffee shop

Thomas Wysocki

Cute, busy, local underground coffee shop. Yummy pastries and a rather good maple latte which wasn't as sweet as I expected it might be.

Kathleen Smith

A staple in the area for many years. I decided to stop in while in the area to see why? Good selection friendly staff and a fun funky space. I expect they will be here for years to come.

Annie Skerry

The absolute best coffee in the world. Great environment to hang out in. Authentic local people to chit chat with. Chai is delicious.

Kyle Wolff

The coffee here was good in fact I think it had a maple leaf design on my latte or something. I like good coffee art and this place has true artists.
