It has that perfect cozy coffeeshop vibe <3
This review is for the hospital location. One of the people working there was insufferable. From the time I stood in line, until the time I left the small table where I finished my coffee, all I could hear was complaining about how that person hates talking with people and explaining what a caramel Macchiato is. On top of that, the person complaining about explaining was apparently not paying attention to the double espresso i ordered. It was super bitter and much larger than the 2 ounces you would normally expect.
Great coffee (in fact, the best!), reasonable prices, and fantastic baristas....what more could I ask for? They seem to use the best quality ingredients available, and I can't get over how good and friendly the service is.
Go around the corner
Really rude cashier gave me the wrong change
Yummy Yummy Yummy I love the atomsphere!
Great summer time coffee shop. Crazy busy when the students are in town so good luck finding a seat. Coffee shake is amazing!
Even though they forgot to make my coffee while my friend got theirs from the same order I can’t knock them too much as they were friendly, apologetic and gave me a free coffee for my time. The coffee was pretty good once I finally got it.
Better eats than across the street and they open earlier.
Really quiet, cozy and smells nice.. Employees are welcoming and friendly. Coffee isn't my favorite tastes kinda burnt, but esspresso is very good.
In Columbia and looking for THE coffee shop? Look no further than Lakota Coffee! This shop is a staple of Columbia and it’s history. They roast in house (the shop smells sooo good) and have the best selections for espresso/tea drinks. Their sandwiches are great too! Whether you’re a new customer or a familiar face (people have been going there since they opened!) the awesome staff always seems happy to see you. While Columbia’s lucky to have plenty of options coffee-wise, there’s no doubt that the best one is Lakota.
Best coffee in como!
I don't live in town but I visit often. I've been a customer of Lakota for years. In addition to really good coffee, they serve good sandwiches, and it's a really cozy place on a cold day.
I don't drink coffee but sometimes I come here to grab a bite and study. It's a nice environment to get some work done. I wish they had soup year round though and when I order good it always takes a very long time for it to be ready even when it's not busy at all. Overall, I'd recommend coming here. It's a nice little coffee shop downtown.
This coffee shop is open until midnight. It's so nice to be able to go to a show then take the kids to get hot coco after.
Friendly Folks, Good Coffee... cant ask for more...
Lakota is by far the best place to pick up hot chicks in columbia.
I always love the environment of this coffee shop
Friendly Cafe. Delicious cookies and sweet items. Good coffee.
They're chocolate coffee shake is THE BOMB!!!!
They always have excellent coffee and biscotti.
A very warm friendly place where you can savor and enjoy the finest fresh roasted coffees. I truly loved the place and now I'm a regular out of town mail order coffee beans customer.
love this little shop with the comfy chairs and great coffee"s and eatery
Best Earl grey tea. Love the Fireside coffee
I normally don't leave reviews but I felt obliged to let everyone know how great my visit was. I was pleased to see a variety of choices in coffee (or tea if your into that) and great customer service as my order was taken quickly and accurately.
Great atmosphere and coffee!
Great coffee (4 rotating selections, plus the option to get a pourover of any bean on their list) and solid customer service. Cheaper by far than most of their downtown competitors.
One of the best coffeehouse in Columbia, they have very nice staff ,tasty coffee❤️
My faves: Dirty chai latte(cold drink) & Tiramisu latte
Revised Review - I recently had a disappointing experience at Lakota. The GM saw my initial review and asked for details. I sent an email and received a great response. I'm impressed. I'll definitely give Lakota another visit the next time I'm in Columbia. As a result I have amended my review.
Absolutely fabulous
Fast service, neat atmosphere, and comfortable furniture. Reasonably priced coffee and easy customization of your coffee at the fixin's bar. Unique local place, would return!
I really enjoy getting lunch here. I like the bread selection. Sadly I can"t eat hete through the week, not enough time. Lunch break is only 15 min
Great atmosphere. Great coffee.
I love this place but everytime me and my husband have been going there in the evening lately the coffee has not been worth the money!!! the same people which are usually there are two men that we are use to seeing make a wonderful cup of coffee. But someone is not properly training the new employees to make a good cup of coffee!! I ordered two 20 oz of pumpkin pie white chocolate mocha which is not cheap. And I'm fine with that as long as I get what I'm paying for but lately when we go in the evening its always someone new behind the counter and they do not know how to make good coffee I couldn't taste any but coffee that was way!! Too hot plus it also seemed like they didn't even put any flavor in it and my husband's coffee was literally cold and it was supposed to be warm because it's a latte. I hope this review whips whoever is training these people how to make a good cup of coffee because I love this place and I hate walking in hoping that those two men are there just so we get a good cup of coffee and not waste our money on what taste like what I can make at home!!.
People are really nice and the sandwiches are amazing
Great local coffee shop in Columbia. Quick service and tasty food. The breakfast burrito with salsa on the side was delicious. Great place for a quick eat.
Great choice of drinks plus friendly service!!
Great coffee, great atmosphere. They roast their own beans in this locally-owned shop. We use their coffee almost exclusively at home. It's also a great spot to meet friends downtown.
Always tough choosing between Kaldi's and Lakota but both have their own unique vibe. I love Lakota because of their relaxed and sorta lazy atmosphere (not referring to the staff!). Employees are great, the daytime isn't terribly busy and it's a good work environment
Lakota is always a treat. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The espresso and coffee is always expertly roasted in house. It’s a gem in Columbia. An absolute favorite date spot for my wife and I.
I really like lakotas fair trade organic Sumatra whole bean coffee for my home. Lakota coffee company is also a great place to meet friends for coffee and a pastry or a sandwich for lunch.
They roast all of their own coffee, I have been buying from them for years. They always have the freshest roasted coffee anywhere in town. I love coming downtown and the smell of them roasting. I love their giant cookies as well, they barely fit on the plate.
Classic downtown coffee shop! Their coffee shakes are about the best I’ve ever had!
What a been better if I drink coffee
I was in the hospital with my mom for an appointment and decided to get a coffee. I don't consume sugar, so I just went for a plain coffee and added Splenda and some half and half. I also got my mom a small coffee and added sugar and half and half. She's not a big coffee drinker. I thought the coffee would be disappointing because there was no sugar free flavored creamer, but it was DELICIOUS!!!! Later, mom brought up that the coffee was delicious!!! Definitely THE best coffee I've ever had.
Very nice place! I enjoyed a lot!
Lakota is the best coffee shop in Columbia! The coffee is delicious, and they always have four options brewed for you to pick from so you can be sure there is something you will like. They have a huge selection of espresso drinks as well, so if drip isn’t your thing you will still be sure to find something you will love. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and since they roast in house it smells amazing. The staff is great, and always make you feel welcome. For sure a must-try if you are in Columbia!!!
Extremely knowledgeable about world coffees, great place to read and relax. On street metered parking
I stop by Lakota anytime I travel through Columbia. The staff is always great. I have caught them roasting several times and asked questions. Everyone seems very knowledgeable and friendly
Absolutely in love with the dark roast!!! Super fresh but highly addictive!!!! Just can’t have one cup.
Great coffee is hard to beat and when it's the staple of CoMo well there you have it!! Great food, great service, and great variety of coffee. Unbelievable hours of operation!!
Love it nice little cafe. Always full when I go get coffee beans for us and great service! They do serve sandwiches and other drinks besides coffee lol.
Some of the best coffee in town, I wish they would open a location in Jeff City
I ordered a Pastrami Sandwich & coffee. It was really good. The coffee taste great too. I will be back. It had a nice feeling to it also.
It's great place to sit and work on your computer. It gets crowded most days, except early in the morning. They make sandwiches and have a large variety of drinks. Hope this helps!
Relaxed atmosphere where natural lifestyles are encourage
Great selection of coffee and shakes! There are even some seasonal offerings and I think their pumpkin is spectacular.
I come for the coffee and the atmosphere. The staff has always been pleasant and quick and a seat at the bar can make you many a new friend. The owner is in frequently and seems engaged with his staff. Definitely my first pick when downtown.
Love the chai shakes xD
Nice atmosphere and good coffee!! Love this place
It's okay, expensive for what you get.
I love the coffee, vibe and sandwiches. Decided to come here after an employee made a speech in my Public Speaking class and wasn't disappointed!
Great coffee
Pour Over of Guatemala was incredible. I love their strawberry cream cheese croissants. Must try
Great coffee, great atmosphere. I love the decor of the building. I also went to their new south location and their new location has a drive thru. Great addition, now I can get great coffee when I don't have time to stop in and sit down and hang out with friends.
Always best quality service and coffee
Great coffee. Great atmosphere. But during the middle of the day they are slow. For just a shot of espresso it took over ten minutes.
I am a huge coffee lover and my friend recommend this place to me so I was looking forward to some great coffee., But when I walked in and seated myself at the bar I was completely ignored as if I was invisible for 30 minutes until I decided to just leave. I don't know if there was a specific spot to order, but I couldn't see it. Instead, I strolled over to Shortwave coffee to get my coffee fix for the day
Good coffee, small, busy shop. Lots of students. WiFi. Sandwiches.
Best selection of tea in town, great environment to hang out and get work done
I'm digging the rich, chocolaty house blend at a decent price for a bottomless cup. The staff is pretty and friendly! There is some nice, laid-back classic rock and conversation in the background as I chill in one of their stylish, yet comfy chairs near the window. ;-)
Not what it used to be. I went to college in Columbia, and Lakota was one of my favorite places; walked a couple of miles to get there. Always friendly and personable, but this visit was not. Guess I was looking for nostalgia, but the girl behind the counter would never be hired by me.
Nice atmosphere and good chai latte. It would be nice if the tea were better advertised--but what did I expect in a coffee shop? The seats in the windows offer a good place to chat with an out-of-town friend and watch the pedestrians outside on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
My home away from home
Excellent coffee and service :0)
Great coffee and service every time we go.
I was here when this place first opened its doors for business and I've been coming back ever since. Overall, it remains the best coffee shop in town! Perfect for the coffee snob or casual Kaffeehaus-er. Located in the perceived heart of downtown, it draws a diverse crowd of people from the highfalutin to the down-to-earth townies; and from the college "vocal-fry girl" crowd to the back-pack set. So, naturally, the people-watching activities are just as much fun as the coffee drinking. Lakota roasts and grinds their own beans in house and prices range from reasonable to as much as any c-snob would care to pay. They also offer a really decent selection of teas, Boar's Head sandwiches, assorted snacks including some fresh fruit and the usual pastries, etc.
Real good coffee. And thier bagle sandwiches are excellent! The baristas are always exceptionally nice too! Which you don't find everywhere.
Comfortable, artsy environment. The furniture is mostly wooden and the decorations are eclectic. The staff is friendly and the variety is unbeatable. The quality of products, on the other hand ranges from mediocre to average.
A wonderful Oasis! Great value on lox and bagels, good coffee and friendly staff.
Love the house blend.
We love the fresh roasted beans.
Tried 2 of their different coffees in a French press and a pour over. Both coffees were strong but not much flavor.
Wonderful atmosphere!
As a student, I really appreciate that Lakota is open until midnight during the school year. It is the only coffee shop located downtown that is open this late. Lakota has a much wider food selection than any other coffee shop I have frequented in the area, meaning it's more than just bakery items. I've never had a barista be rude or dismissive to me in the 4+ years I have been going to Lakota. They have also always been really respectful and attentive to allergen concerns, which is very important to me when deciding where I feel safe ordering food or drinks, as I have multiple food allergies. Overall, really great environment, family friendly, and worth a stop if you're visiting!
amazing grilled sandwiches and good coffee, however during popular times it is hard to find a seat at all!
Nice coffee shop. Strong coffee.
It is a good place to taste a coffee full of flavour.
Lakota is a great place to study and meet up with friends. Unlike other coffeeshops in Columbia, the environment is conducive to friendly visits. Can't recommend it enough.
Great place to grab some coffee. I usually, grab their coffee shake. It’s espresso mixed with vanilla ice cream, and it’s SO DELICIOUS. As for their lattes and other drinks I think they are pretty good also. They have a wide variety of drinks and snacks on their menu. It’s a chill environment - very tiny, great place for students to study without a large crowd.
Great local coffee spot, with free wifi and reserved brews
It's a nice hangout.
Coffee- Not the worst I've ever had. Cold brew is the only thing that won't taste sour and acidic. Definitely due to underextracted beans. Fretboard and Shortwave around the corner are still Columbia's supreme coffee scene. Interior- It truly looks like it hasn't been updated ever. Very tacky, Western we are "trying to look like a cabin" vibe. Very limited and inconvenient seating. Food- Decent selection for a café, from Hyvee pastries to soup and sandwiches. Service- the downtown location is always accommodating. Staff is knowledgeable on the roasts. Over-all, I prefer Shortwave, Fretboard, or Kaldi's for ease of studying and quality of coffee.
I had a panini sandwich and it was delicious! Looking forward to going back.
#chai shakes, #dirtychai. Amazing coffee!! Searching for a place for great local coffee? Search no more! Lakota Coffee is by far the best coffee in Columbia. Try any of their specialty drinks they are all winners and will not disappoint. Lakota roasts their beans on site and you can purchase their product in some grocery stores in the area. The place also offers delicious food, a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Stop in and smell the beans roast!
Cool place but weird service, didn't know I couldn't drink the water and use the bathroom for free.
Lakota is one of the best coffee shops in the Columbia area! Amazing selection of single origin coffees and flavoured coffees that you can buy! Lakota also has a great selection of loose leaf tea! They have very yummy sandwiches as well. I love the environment at both Lakota locations the customers and baristas are all awesome and friendly. Lakota Coffee always makes my day better!
Good coffee. Nice decor. Good place to hang out. Snack selection is sometimes limited. Staff is always polite and kind.
This is a longtime Columbia Coffee House. Super tried-and-true. Ultra nice rest roasting what is San Franciscan machine. Any coffee drink you want. T choices too. A nice little Deli. I personally would try a coffee shake. Outdoor seating. Excellent WiFi. Excellent location downtown. No complaints whatsoever. The owners are very nice. And the people that tend to patronize the place are also very friendly. Definitely try it. You won't be disappointed in the coffee. And I recommend taking it pound of italian roast or French roast back home with you unground.
Service was attentive.
Great service! Cozy environment. Nice wooden tables and chairs. A great place to read, study or catch up with friends.
The coffee tastes awful
Always good selections and efficient staff. I love the dirty chai shake the most
I grew up in Columbia. Lakota Coffee has been providing upstanding service and quality for over 25 years. This local business houses an amazing array of coffees grown around the world, with an impressive organic variety. In addition, all their beans are roasted in house! Lakota is bound to deliver the coffee need, when you need it. Take it from a townie ;-)
Good service, delicious drinks, and a cozy atmosphere, one of my favorite coffee places in town
Utter perfection. Every other café pales in comparison.
Great Coffee, great atmosphere to meet up, study, or just hang out.
Columbia's original coffee spot, Lakota still holds its own in the crowded coffee market. Delicious cappuccino. Also love that Lakota has a shop in the lobby of University Hospital.
Great coffee shop, friendly staff. Has such a cool vibe to it. Always enjoy being here.
To me I chose Lakota for all my morning coffee needs and most of my business for two reasons, downtowns location has a very chill and wonderful positive vibe. Never once do I feel judged or treated any other way but how I would like to be treated. My second is because their coffee is amazing and it’s a local business ! You guys rock and keep filling up mugs forever !
Best coffee in town. Way Better than Kaldi's. Prompt service with a smile.
Quiet spot for working. Food and service average.
Coffee and teas aren't bad. I appreciate that you can see the fresh coffee and unique tea choices. Not many food choices, but of those the bakery ones are alright. Now, onto the juicy part. Abysmal employees and business ethic. The past few reviews were all posted by workers at the company within a span of a few hours after a single negative review was posted. Seems rather fishy to me, and I don't appreciate a supposed local company creating fake propaganda just to boost their google review score. Treatment of employees is awful, there is a terrible aspect of a closed community that doesn't respect people with different views. I can actually hear the hospital kiosk workers talking bad about their coworkers. In front of customers. Unprofessional and uncomfortable environment for everyone involved. Also they allow personal conflicts and "office politics" affect their professionalism. Would recommend a friendlier cafe.
I love Lakota! Lakota is a Columbia local coffee house and one of the landmarks of this city! if you are looking for awesome place that feels cozy and serves you wonderful coffee look no further! Your memories will begin here!
My experience today made me want to leave a review! Even though I have consumed Lakota Coffee many times before on many other days, today was exceptional. What made today different was the gracious over-pouring of happy, positive, and interactive customer service I received. I stopped in to grab a quick pita, hummus, and veggies plate and a cold brew coffee to go and in just a couple minutes of interacting with the staff, they made my day better. It made me smile and I thought about my experience for hours after and that's just one of the reasons I keep going back (downtown and to the southside location).
good biscotti, better than mcdonalds coffee, but tastes burnt, chess is fun to play on their tables.
10/10 highly recommend, I’ve had a lot of coffee in Columbia but none of it tastes like home, the family that runs Lakota are second to none and you can always be greeted with a smile at Lakota.
I love a good local coffee shop, but I was a little disappointed when I visited Lakota. My brother and I got different drinks and neither of us were crazy about them. The coffee was pretty bitter. The coffee shop does have a hipster, youthful feel to it. It's a cool place to visit.
Better coffee than starbucks and less money. Great place to relax with computer.
Nice atmosphere, trendy little shop. Packed with people on a Saturday morning. Good coffee but I havent had a bad cup at a coffee shop like this yet. Staff was a little slow but they were slammed as well.
Lakota has been my favorite coffee shop for almost twenty years. A Columbia tradition! I highly recommend their Highlander Grogg
The best place for coffee in Columbia. Coffee has great flavor and it is an easy walk from campus and less crowded than Kaldis.
Went with a group of 6 and it wasn't the most comfortable as far as space and seating. The service and Coffee was good. Its just for a smaller number
Great coffee but very slow service and they were not very busy.
Very yummy coffee. However, I don't think crop tops are appropriate attire for behind the counter, looks unprofessional.
Loved my after dinner date to Lakota for coffee and cheesecake on the patio. The rest of the menu looked amazing too - can't wait to try their other selections!
A classic coffee place in downtown Columbia. A WIDE variety of coffee options. My favorite coffee shop in town. Oh by the way, the have really good chocolate croissant.
Awesome furniture and art on the walls, constantly showcasing local artists. You can watch them roast coffee at certain times. Great food menu too
Great coffee. Perfect coffee house atmosphere. And I can get my rice crispy treat fix!
Nice location and atmosphere. The coffee is roasted on the dark side which I don't enjoy.
Great coffee lovely little shop.
Lakota is by far the best coffee shop in Columbia. I've never walked in and seen so many people enjoy eachother's company. This place makes you feel right at home with its unique ambience and personality. Nothing beats in house roasting!
Love the coffee, but I checked my credit card and they added an additional tip even after I already gave them a tip.
Great coffee. I have never had a better cup of coffee in my life. I stopped in to get a sandwich and ended up studying for hours after my Turkey Bacon Sandwich which was really good because they toasted it on a Panini Grill. Best Brewed Coffee I have ever had, the Coffee Shake is a must try.
Went here almost every day while I was a student. You get plenty of room to yourself, it's a big open space without any visual obstructions and well lit... Good all around. I always drank regular coffee and had three different brews to choose from daily, for $2 flat. Is it the best coffee I've ever had? No, but it's better than Starbucks/Kaldi's, and considering it's in Columbia the atmosphere is very relaxed and accepting.
The coffee is amazingly good here. The staff is great. I get fresh beans for at home, and a frappuccino for the road when I go here.
This is the spot! Friendly and helpful staff who gets to know you and your order the more you come around. I've been waiting in a long line before and was brought my coffee before I even ordered or paid.
