A Minneapolis institution! Freshly made ice cream! What's not to love?
Fantastic ice cream! A must when in the neighborhood!
If you love good ice cream, you have to go here! They have classic flavors, but you will be blown away by their other creative and oh so tasty flavors. Not sure what to get? No worries as you can sample any of the flavors before you make a decision. The staff were super helpful and friendly. Outside there is a patio area that makes you feel like you are at a secluded Villa. Great place to socialize with your family and friends. So go try out the amazing ice cream while you sit back and enjoy the area!
Had the icecream here today for the first time. I love this little place, and the Minneapolis Vanilla is awesome on a sprinkle cone.
Delicious local ice cream and desserts. What more could you want?
Mmm creamy scoopers.
The ice cream is real solid, albeit a little bit overhyped. What makes it here is the GEM of a human dishin’ out the scoops. He’s an absolute day-making darling.
Great ice cream, the malts and shakes are to die for! Love this place
Always welcoming staff... Never rushed... My kids love the ice-cream
Omg. This place is amazing. Seriously get the Nicolette Ave Pothole ice-cream
Definitely one of the better ice cream places in town
I got their raspberry chip and loved it. The real reason I'll come back is because they had the most delicious chocolate dipped cone with sprinkles. The chocolate was super thick and the majority of the cone was dipped, not just the top inch and a half.
Overall 4.5 because it's expensive ice cream for a "treat yo self" kinda day. I can't stress this enough: TREAT YO[ur] SELF. The ice cream was super creamy and delicious just BURSTING with flavor. They have all sorts and flavors of ice cream for every mood. I had the opportunity to taste black forest, Swiss almond, chocolate and Oreo flavors. None of it let me down. The ambience is super wonderful and you might catch a crowd but it's worth the wait.
It's okay ice cream if you can't make it to izzys
Great flavors and friendly staff. Be ready for a wait during the summer.
Delocioso. I had the salty caramel and it was amazing. I would definitely recommend this. The atmosphere is light, and friendly, and the staff were friendly.
Some of the best ice-cream I have ever tasted! They offer a very wide selection of flavors. They not only offer ice-cream, but they also offer milkshakes and malts, with the same flavors offered as for ice-cream, and they also offer coffee along with some pastries that would be found at most local cafes. The atmosphere is very nice. It is a modern style, with many tables indoor and also outdoor seating. The line can get quite long, bit it moves very quickly and is totally worth it. Service is very good, with multiple employees serving ice-cream at a time, and they will also provide things such as a cup for dripping ice-cream right away. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a wide variety of choices and some good ice-cream.
I think this is one of the best ice cream shops I've ever been to and I've been to a lot of ice cream shops! They have a variety of flavors and I love that they rotate their more unique flavors through so there are always new flavors to try. There is typically a long line but it moves pretty quickly and is worth the wait!
Great family friendly place, awesome ice cream, and great staff!
Best ice cream in the Twin Cities, maybe the US.
After being away from MN for five years, I came back to this place with good memories and high hopes. I was shocked at how SMALL the portions have gotten, even as the prices have gone up! A "double" was two very small scoops with a cone ... $7. These guys have been popular for too long ... they're boosting their profit margins by reducing portion sizes and hoping people don't notice. We need other ice cream shops!
The cashier had nerves of steel and the kids serving weren't even phased... even when a bus full of people arrived ! Awesome icecream
Always good. They selection is a bit odd but that is pay of the apeal
Fun venue, friendly service & delicious ice cream!
The vegan best ice cream in Minneapolis!
Truly the best ice cream in town, and the employees are kind and upbeat.
Amazing ice cream, but staff and service have gone way down in quality. The size of the serving is now minuscule for the super high price tag. Still love the actual product, but there are a ton of great ice cream shops that have opened up lately, so there is no need to go back here for a tiny expensive scoop.
This is a great ice cream shop located just SW of downtown. It's pretty easy to get to, there is street parking nearby, and a nice patio area during the warmer months. My favorite flavor is the Nicollet Avenue Pot Hole! Prices are not cheap, but are pretty standard for ice cream places nowadays.
Ice cream that is to die for, fresh baked goods, great coffee and service with a smile! What more can you ask for?
Worth the wait, I promise. In my humble opinion, this is some of the best ice cream in Minnesota (and perhaps in the midwest, shh don't tell my home state, Wisconsin, I said that). The lines are sometimes long, more so in the summer, but I promise you will not regret it! My favorite is the raspberry chocolate chip, but there is something for everyone (they even have good vegan ice cream)! Of all the things I miss about Minneapolis now that I am back in Wisconsin, Sebastian Joe's is the one I miss the most.
Awesome made-daily handmade ice-cream.
I wish I had given Sebastian Joe's a thousand five stars! During the two generations I and now the next generation of my family, I have NEVER received such bad service as I did tonight. I love this place. Like so many places in Minnesota, the person who gave such bad service clearly was not from Minnesota (there was nothing "nice" (passive or otherwise) about her. I am even going to change my rating from one to two, just for prior service sake!!
I paid 10 dollars for a milkshake that was the same consistency as milk. Very disappointing. Uses paper straws though which is more environmentally friendly.
Love the non dairy options
This is the best place! So many good ice cream’s to choose from, my absolute favorite is the raspberry chocolate chip. This seems to be the absolute favorite of a good many people who frequent the store. To be honest, it is always excruciatingly difficult to decide which flavor to get. I usually decide to get several.
Great place great icecream
Excellent service. Local roastery as well as hand made icecream. Includes vegan and gluten-free options.
The service was the problem. The serving shown was $7.50 For that price, I would have just liked to have been greeted with a smile, and thanked for my patronage. The space was clean, and the ice cream was good. Not many choices as far as comes, which is important to me.
The ice cream tasted good but I had to catch my ice cream because it was on such a small cone it was huge scoop of ice cream and I didn't even get a refund
I love this place so much. I live close by and am always practicing restraint by not coming down here every night. While there are trendier places popping up all over the city every year, this place consistently puts out fantastic ice cream accompanied by great service. If there’s a line—it’s worth the wait!
Love love love this ice cream! Great interesting flavors so creamy and delicious. They will let you taste with tiny spoons, we all enjoyed a cool refreshing dessert here. The waffle cones were fresh crunchy and home made.
Ice cream was pretty good. Staff person was nice and helpful.
Best ice cream in minneapolis for sure!
Dairy free flavors are tasty. More of them please!
Unlike Glam Doll Donuts, these people don't run out of vegan options. I've tried to go to Glam Doll twice to get donuts and they've been out of vegan donuts. Sebastian Joe's has a steady supply of vegan sweets. Glam Doll? More like Scam Ya'll. Zinger!
We stopped by for a late afternoon snack. I would have given the ice cream 5 stars for flavor and selection but docked them a star for service related issues which I wouldn't expect to happen in a subsequent visit. My daughter ordered an Oreo milkshake that tasted more like milk than Oreo... it was rectified quickly when mentioned to them. My wife ordered the ultimate sundae with Heathbar sprinkled over it. It came out & was handed to her covered in Oreo dust. Upon noticing, she mentioned it to another worker & just asked to add Heathbar to it to make it easier. They agreed but came back later & had no Heathbar to add...they were all out. They were very accommodating but it was an unexpected complication. Hopefully, it won't be experienced during the really busy times.
One of the best ice cream places in the cities. Definitely try the oreo and Pavarotti flavors
Really loved the ice cream here, looks like a family owned business. Very nice people and not to mention amazing scoops. I would suggest the dipped cones. Try finding some place to park your car off street near by.
Love this ice cream shop - super creamy and perfect after biking, walking, running etc around the lakes. The raspberry chocolate chip is my favorite, but all the flavors are delicious!
The ice cream is great but there's often a long line and the service can be pretty shaky. They hire a lot of kids.
OREO ICE CREAM is all I need to say.
All the ice cream is specialty flavors, dont expect to walk in and order the old standby of plain chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. Although lots of crazy concoctions of flavors - the ice cream was really good. There are kosher & vegan options available. Cute little malt shop style that has seating and coffee shop vibes. So grab your favorite flavor and sit down to enjoy.
How have I not given a review of this place. If you want ice cream in South Minneapolis and even close to down town I recommend for sure this place. The flavors are not pretentious and hipster like a few other places in uptown. They have a multitude of ways to enjoy the ice cream from cakes, to sandwiches, to cones. The Nicolette pothole ice cream cake is out of this world. Even thier coffee and espresso is good. If you can make the drive to the Upton location go there. If you don't want to drive that far this location is good too.
Usually love the Nicollett Pothole, but it has been really salty recently!
Great late night ice cream shop.
The best ice cream in the Twin Cities. Anyone who says otherwise is a heretic!
Local premium ice cream shop. Churn their own ice cream. Good assortment of not-too-out-flavors. Scoops, cones, hand-packed containers. Indoor and outdoor seating.
Really disappointing. There wasn't anything set up to manage a line in the shop, and the ice cream wasn't even as good as ice cream you get from a grocery store freezer. I got a scoop of blueberry and a scoop of raspberry ice cream. The raspberry was okay, but the blueberry was so incredibly bland. It was only made worse that it was all full of ice crystals.
Every time my wife and I come here the line is literally wrapped around the building which should tell you all you need to know. I'm not a big ice cream guy but my wife is and their unique flavors are pretty cool. Staff is extremely friendly and even though the line was very long we were able to get in and out within minutes.
Fantastic home made ice cream.
The white orangina flavor is delicious and refreahing.
Super great ice cream! One of the best places in the Twin Cities. Lots of variety of flavors, for sure something for everyone! I've taken a ton of people here and theyve all loved it! Even when the lines are long the wait isn't too bad. Staff are friendly. There's seating in and outside. Parking is a bit tricky because there's not a dedicated lot but there's usually spots not too far back in the neighborhood. My only wish is that the scoops were a bit bigger, though I understand it's all in house made.
Such great flavors to choose from. There is also good tea (Black Mango is my favorite), coffee, and pastries. Some of the pastries are gluten free, the chai GF muffin is my favorite.
Very pedestrian ice cream with less intense flavors than you might expect from modern premium ice cream stores. I'm always disappointed with the ice cream here sadly. The other treats are good, and the overall experience is still nice.
My favorite of the local I've cream makers
Great ice cream with the old school experience.
It was good ice cream! Although, I felt the Green Tea Ice Cream could have used more green tea flavor. Otherwise, hit the spot on a hot day!
Fun flavors! Super nice guy behind the counter :) No wait unlike the warmer months when you might have to stand in line forever.
Great customer service, great tasty products
So many good flavors beyond the typical. Nicollet Ave Pothole is probably my favorite, but their take on Oreo is so much better than normal Oreo icecream.
Great ice cream and reasonable!
AMAZING. The staff was outstanding super helpful. Let us taste so many flavors. Also made a wonderful malt!
Get a raspberry chip cookie sandwich. You won't regret it. Pavaratti is also a classic.
One of the better Ice Cream places in the twin cities ice cream scene. Worth going on a nice summer afternoon.
Some of the best ice cream in the cities! Plenty of flavors and a good patio! Nicollete Ave pothole is the best.
My favorite ice cream place in the Twin Cities. Always tastes amazing and they have great hours.
In some ways it's good that I've become so sensitive to sugar that I can't eat much ice cream in one sitting because otherwise I probably would have had a 20 scoop cone. Probably would have blown my food budget for the say, too. I tried 3 flavors, they were all great. Ended up with a 2 scoop cone, before dinner mint and Pavratti. I'm in North Dakota now but am strongly considering going back for the oatmeal raisin cookie I didn't get. Please try the others and let me know how they are. I recommend you take your cone for a walk through the local neighborhood and enjoy the beautiful historic homes while you walk off some of those calories. If you go far enough you can go back for more! They also have coffee which looked good but I didn't try it. I did see a coffee roasting machine meaning they either roast it themselves or they have a much larger decorating budget than I do.
This ice cream is out of this world!! The Oreo often will have full Oreos in it as the most wonderful surprise and the Nicolette Pot Hole is my absolute favorite - chocolate with caramel swirls and small crunchy bits of sea salt. If you want an ice cream experience you’ll remember, this is the place!
Wide variety options, quick service and nothing came mocha almond fudge flavour
Worth it if you're willing to wait in line.
Pothole is the best flavor!
Great selection of ice creams, lots of staff members that made getting some yummy ice cream , fast and easy!! Highly recommend!!
Great flavors, very reasonable price, and cool store.
I mean what is not to love about ice cream?! Thanks for the sweet treats!
A well thought creative ice cream shop with a large selection of flavors. Many of them were exotic so I choose the Coffee Chip. The flavor was unfortunately void of coffee and actually tasted like a rum chocolate, but the consistency was smooth and soft. I'll come back and try more flavors, maybe even some espresso to drink. Parking seemed to be street only. There is patio seating for outside.
Wonderful ice cream, great atmosphere sitting outside...
This establishment is a go to for dessert when I am in the neighborhood. I will even travel for it when I have the craving. It has an excellent urban location. The flavors are amazing with many options. If you can't find a flavor you like, there will be different ones when you come back! If you are indecisive on what to get, (like me), they have free samples! You can get it in a bowl, cone or made into a shake. The cones even come in different flavors as the waffle cones are covered in chocolate and tasty morsels.
Delicious rich ice cream, plenty of seating (at least there is on Thursday evenings in March). Chocolate dipped sugar cones are a nice decadent option.
Nice staff, fantastic ice cream.
Is there any finer Minnesota only icon than Sabastian Joe's? Just came back from San Francisco, and Giradelli chocolate...it has nothing on our home town favorite...while there you have to try the ice cream formerly known as Nicollette Pot Hole...scrumdiliumpsious...
If you like ice cream, you will like here. However, it is not the ice cream taking me there every weekend but does the waffle. Waffles are the best ones you can find in the cities.
I lived a few blocks from SJ’s for 3 years and have been there a zillion times. So good. The Oreo and vegan cookie dough are my fav :).
Super good local ice cream! They have really fun and unique flavors and it's one of our favorite summer spots. It's fun to sit outside and enjoy a nice summer treat.
it's best! She says it all
Quaint little shop with great ice cream, multiple flavors and choices
Their ice creams are awesome and there are a lot of options.
Quick service, delicious flavors, amazing quality ice cream.
Really good ice cream and super coffee
We went at rush hour to kill time before driving home after visiting the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. I got a latte, with a donut, and my friend got an ice cream bowl. It was really good quality, no wait, friendly service, easy parking outside, clean bathroom. Some of the best coffee I've had at a coffee bar. The main chat room was nicely decorated. Hadn't been since last summer. If we lived nearby, this would be my go to place. Lovely way to end an afternoon!
I love their vegan ice cream!
OK popular with fat women.
My favorite ice cream in the Twin Cities! If you are a chocolate lover, get the Nicollet Avenue Pothole flavor, you won’t regret it!
Very good flavors with some particularly interesting and unique ones!
Fantastic service! The ice cream is top notch as well. Even if you haven't tried the many flavors available, they will gladly give you samples to try first if you aren't confident. I can understand why it's so popular as I am now one of them. You won't regret coming here for fresh and tasty ice cream.
I don't get the allure of this place. It's good, the ice cream is ok (you can get the same quality from the commercial brands) but I don't buy the swanky named ice cream marketing. You can put lipstick on a pig... It's decent and you'll be happy and they're open late. Beyond that, don't expect any magic.
Always the best. Consistently great products, flavors are amazing. Coffee is great too.
Their espresso machine didn't work today, but Juan made up for it! Great place, delicious ice cream, and excellent customer service.
Bomb digity. They have some good ice cream here, with lots of original and of course traditional flavors. The staff is pretty buff from scooping Ice Cream.
The apple crisp and Oreo ice creams were more flavorful than their real life counterparts!
Homemade ice cream. Do I need to say more? Best in the city.
Great friendly customer service
Sebastian Joe's is always delightful. Classic and some not so classic flavors. Salted Caramel and Nicollet Ave Pothole are great flavors, the Ridiculous Sundae is the perfect size to split for two people. Friendly and fast service!
This ice cream shop was cute and comfortable and located in a nice area. Although I am giving it a 2 star because it was very expensive. I spent 8 bucks for literally a small scoop of ice cream on top of a Graham cracker cone. The ice cream was nothing special or extra good it was average ice cream. Better off going to dairy queen. It did look nice for a date though.
Fantastic as usual if you are in Minneapolis it's definitely a must have
ALWAYS FABULOUS! My go to shop. The best smooth, creamy, flavor packed ice cream and sherbet. Real ingredients. My favorites are Pot hole, Poverati, and grapefruit sherbet. Bakery goods are really tasty including GF items. The change in the homemade waffle cone wasnt a positive. Maybe just an off batch. Flavor and texture; smooth no "waffling".
Probably the best ice cream in Minneapolis, but the long lines are a pain!
I love this place! The ice cream is second to none, handcrafted sandwiches and they even made a pizza that they can bake for you in just a few minutes.
Great local ice cream, line way too long for NO CHILDREN IN IT, Jesus Christ yuppies is this your big break from "adulting"?
