We have all the reviews of real people like you who are purchasing the products of Penny\'s Coffee (Coffee Shop) in the area close to Minnesota.
At this moment the firm has a score of 4.5 out of 5 and this rating has been based on 287 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is almost the highest, and it's founded on a very high number of feddbacks, so we may be quite sure that the assessment is quite credible. If people have bothered to leave their opinion when they are satisfied, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to set tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Coffee Shop corresponds to the category of Cafe.
Best chai I've ever had in a coffeshop. There's a relaxing atmosphere and the service is great.
The worst coffee I've ever had. Hands down. It was a small cup, cold, so bitter it turned my insides but the staff are wonderful. $3.33 for the cup
An adorable little cafe located in an office building.
Great outdoor area to relax and stop after a bike ride. The food was delicious too.
Tasty food and great drinks.
Over priced terrible coffee. Coffee is bitter, but it's not supposed to be as acidic and gut rotting as that comes out of their machines. For coffee worth premium prices go to Analace or Dogwood Coffee. For good coffee go down the street to Dunn Bros.
Some of the staff can be rude. Most of staff are pleasant. Coffee is excellent and cappuccinos are top in this city. Crepes are excellent. Music and vibe is great. Bathrooms are terrible. Prices are higher than most coffee shops.
Happened upon this place because I needed some coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful coffee shop. Plus the coffee and crepes were on point
Coffee and vibe here is fantastic. Very open and ambient. Great place to get work done!
Great, quiet atmosphere perfect for relaxing or working. Delicious coffee and most of the staff is really friendly.
Food tastes great, just price are pretty up there, otherwise great spot
Excellent crepes and coffee.
It's a nice space, but nothing was all that sensational; probably a nice place to have in the building for those that work there. The staff were extremely friendly, their tea options are good, and Spyhouse coffee is always going to be great. OK crêpes, but nothing great.
I want to like Penny's, but the staff is confused and inattentive, orders are usually made totally incorrectly or not at all, the coffee is burnt, the chairs are insanely uncomfortable, but the shortbread chocolate chip cookie is great--when they have it.
Good coffee and nice interior. I like the high ceiling. Don’t recommend Jian Bing- crepe. It’s too sweet.
Great place for coffee. Delicious crepes. The one with sugar and cinnamon is very good.
I love coming here for their Prosciutto, Chevre, and Pesto Crepe! Pair it with a delicious coffee and you've got a great start to your morning!
Beautiful but really expensive
Super cool space and friendly staff serving delicious beverages.
Located in a building lobby. Expensive, don't really see the appeal.
Interesting place downtown Minneapolis. Very yuppie like people, felt really out of place there. Prices were OK, slow service. If wanting to go allow plenty of time, do not be in a hurry. Not well informed as how things ran as far as getting food. They expect you to know, even if its your 1st time.
Quality coffee with plenty of non dairy options. Penny's has a great vibe in the middle of down town. The trip to the bathrooms is a bit strange, located upstairs and down a hall. You might think you're in a business complex... Cause you are.
Great atmosphere and stunning design. The coffee is smooth. They have crepes, croissants and other bakery items. Espresso is served with a pocky stick. The design really appreciates Yamasaki's original plan, keeping the marble exposed. The bar imitates this with it's own marble use in a more rigid way. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
Nice open space and a mix of seating inside and out. My iced Americano was on point and the blueberry lavender scone was just what I needed.
Nice use of space indoors and out. Great views. Latte was was good.
Outstanding coffee and crepes. They burnt the crossant while heating but that was still delicious ....
Such a beautiful space! I also love that they have oat milk for substitution in drinks. The miel is so good! Love coming here during the weekdays.
Tasty breve' and dark roast
Excellent coffee! The ham and gruyere crepe was amazing. I love the giant windows and the lights. Very bright atmosphere.
Great coffee, with house-made syrups. Amazing food. An all around chic and classy experience, I absolutely love the vibe. So many windows, great view on a sunny morning.
Exceptional food, coffee, and staff!!! Great atmosphere as well!
I love the coffee here. It’s nice and strong unlike Star***** coffee. Also enjoyed crape for breakfast.
Great coffee in a beautiful space.
We walked over from Hennepin and 5th street after lunch to grab a cup of coffee from Penny's. I'm sad to say that it wasn't worth the walk in the cold :/ Our first impression was good. Penny's is located in a very expensive and modern looking building. I ordered a drip coffee which was decent, but nothing really to write about. I actually wanted a pourover but for whatever reason, they don't do pourovers here. Modern coffee shop that doesn't do pourovers... Weird, but ok. My sister ordered a matcha latte which we found to be lacking in the matcha department. Finally, I got a croissant, but unfortunately, it was neither buttery nor flaky. We asked if they were homemade and the cashier told us they were storemade. Does that mean that they were made in this store, or does it mean that they were bought from a store? -insert thinking emoji- Overall, not a very memorable experience
Always great coffee and food!
Excellent food! Chill little work spot.
Nice seating area outside!
Beautiful space, good coffee.
Penny's Coffee is this beautiful little shop in the front corner of its building with an almost classic feel to it. I absolutely love the atmosphere at Penny's. It reminds me of a scene from some 1950's style movie or something. The coffee is delicious as well. I tried the Americano and it did not disappoint.
Love this place. Perfect for a quick latte and scone in the morning or spending some down time in a great space. Their latte art is on point, and if they have the cranberry orange scine, make sure you grab one!
Why I didn't discover this place before. Crepes was so delicious the best one I ever had, great coffee too and the service was good. Most visit again.
La Columbe coffee based in Philadelphia is my favorite and so excited to see it served here! Friendly staff and quick service.
Penny's is just as, if not more beautifully designed than it's reputation purports. The Caramel Apple crêpe I ordered came quickly and is probably the best I've ever had, and the Spyhouse coffee certainly holds it's own. I've been to just about every coffeehouse in downtown, and this one is definitely a new favorite. It's well worth the stop if you're ever in the area, and even if you're not, it's worth going out of your way just for the design and atmosphere. I'll absolutely be returning soon.
Avocado Toast was amazing.
There is a lot of social media hype about Penny's Coffee on instagram and I personally don't believe that this coffee shop lives up to the hype. The decor is very "now" as it's very minimal and has lots of windows and natural light (probably why people love to take instagram pictures here) and they do make good coffee and lattes, but they are majorly overpriced and the staff can be very pretentious (although some are down to earth and friendly). I haven't tried their food, although it looks good, again it's overpriced for what they're offering. If you're looking to grab a coffee where the social media influencers of instagram are hanging out, then you've come to the right place. But if you're looking for a good cup of coffee from an independent coffee shop, there are other places in Minneapolis that I would recommend exploring that don't break the bank and have friendlier staff.
Best patio in the Twin Cities
I love how bright it is in here. Great coffee and light breakfast selection.
Best chai tea latte in Minneapolis. Period. Crepes are so good (Black forest ham is a MUST). Drip light roast is great as well. Good wifi and little secret - they have outlets underneath the long bench in the back! Only downside is that the seating is limited.
Probably the most uniquely gorgeous coffee shop in town, they have a specific focus on providing quality coffee with expertly poured espresso beverages. With nothing resembling a real kitchen, they maximize utilization of a few crepe-specific hot plates offering a small menu of lightly griddled items--mostly sweet and savory crepes, but a couple of sandwiches as well. Be warned they aren't designed to push out food, and wait times can be lengthy at busier times of day. I can't emphasize enough how bright and elegant of a space it is. It's one of my favorite reasons to leave for work 15 minutes early.
Good food and service. Would come back here again.
I've only had their coffee. pricey but worth it to get once or twice a week.
If you love bright open spaces, friendly service, delicious crepes and of course, good espresso, you have to add this to your list. On a Sunday late morning, it was busy, and the wait on my savory ham/gruyere crepe was about 30 minutes. Honestly, I didn't mind, it was just enough time to enjoy the artful latte. The sunlight is a bit intense if you're seated directly in it, but overall a great place to catch up with a close friend, or to meet up for an informal date where the lighting really can't be beat.
Food was amazing!
The coffee here is inconsistent and so is the service. Some days I leave with a great cup of coffee and happy with the service, other times I wait at the register while two employees just stand around chatting with each other and am met with a glare when they take my order and leave with coffee tastes like it is incredibly old (that burnt pretzel taste). I keep coming back because of convenience AND sometimes coffee and service are spot on.
Coffee is great. I'm from Philly and love La Colombe coffee. I have the coconut kale salad and that was pretty tasty too
Beautiful space and great coffee/pastries
Great drinks, good service. I bit of a wait but definitely worth it. Baristas are nice and its a great place to sit down and relax
High prices but nice atmosphere
Fantastic new-ish spot for a coffee (and crepe!). Limited seating, and it gets hot in the sunlight from ~2-4pm, but this location has so much window you may feel as though you are outside (until you remember you are in Minnesota and would freeze if that were true. Great homework or conversation atmosphere, friendly staff.
Good coffee, great environment, prices are a little steep
One of my favorite coffee shops in downtown Minneapolis, with cute lattes, seating and a nice vibe for either studying or hanging out and catching up with friends!
Fantastic coffee, and even better Danish.
Fancy, but a bit overpriced.
Really cool atmosphere. Helpful and courteous staff/owner. The crepes and coffee are delicious.
Incredible food and incredible views!
The coffee is great and the outdoor seating area is shaded and is perfect for reading the paper on a weekend morning. The prices are a little higher than expected, but is definitely going to pay for the space.
The best coffee!
Trendy and Instagram worthy coffee
Great atmosphere, service and offerings. Love the outdoor seating options. Bathrooms are a bit hard to find and due to its setup (open to large lobby) acoustics can be a bit loud.
I don't get downtown too often these days, but when I was there a few days ago for an event I knew I had to check out Penny's Coffee. I'd heard good buzz surrounding the opening and had to check it out for myself. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed. Penny's brings the coffee shop experience to a whole new level. The atmosphere is amazing. Open, airy and stylish with coffee that is equally impressive. And the outdoor patio looks like the perfect place to chill out with whichever coffee you choose to indulge in. My wife is already saying we have to get down there soon to try out their crepes. She won't have to twist my arm. I've told a couple friends about Penny's and they've been equally impressed, including one self proclaimed New York coffee snob. If you can please his tastes you know you're doing something right. Nice work Penny's!
The coffee is nice and strong. Wakes you right up. The hot green tea matcha drink is awful. The first time I had it there it was amazing. The past few times I had it, it was not hot and they never add enough matcha so it tastes like I'm just drinking milk. I finally went to complain and they simply said it depends on who makes it. So that was that. :/ ---- Guess I'll go elsewhere for my matcha drinks.
Penny's is always a delight. Friendly staff, good coffee, delicious pastries, avocado toast for when you're feeling extra Millennial-y, and quite possibly the best crepes in town. You can never go wrong with the ham & gruyere.
a must visit. Great food and ambiance.
Avocado toast was a delight. Wonderful seating options
New coffee shop. Beautiful area. Good coffee and nice place to relax.
One of my favorite place to go to downtown!! Parking are all street parking but usually it’s pretty easy to find. Also in the summer it’s not a bad walk since there’s a lot to see around the area.
Great atmosphere with exceptional service.
cute coffee shop, a little small but great atmosphere! good coffee too! went in the winter, but cute outdoor space for the summer (which means i’ll definitely be coming back). good spot for cute pics too
Amazing location! One of the few coffee shops in Minnesota that is as elegant and aesthetic. Their coffee is well balanced and consistent! Prices are a little too high
great coffee chill vibes beautiful spunky blonde barista
Lovely cappuccinos and lattes. Seriously excellent soft scrambled egg sandwich. My only reservation was the processed cheese slice on the sandwich, it's dairy country... On the other hand, the flavor and melt was exactly what the sandwich needs. Highly recommend!
Lovely spot. Big open windows for the downtown skyline views. Perfect atmosphere for a nice cup. And of course. Crepes on crepes on crepes on crepes. Treat yo self to a crepe.
Great coffee! The staff was friendly and the service was quick. The atmosphere was nice and the building was also really cool. I would for sure go back.
Slow service and the wifi barely works outside. Also overrun with hipsters at the moment, but that will change in a few months.
It was pretty good, the views are great, but I didn't enjoy the people who were here. I entered and they all turned and stared. I left and they all stared... what the heck? Anyways, cool views though.
Perfect for a Sunday morning. We walked into the shop, greeted by morning light through huge glass windows on two sides, high ceilings and marble walls giving a serious posh vibe. The staff greeted us and shared recommendations when we asked, especially patient to explain the matcha latte and charcoal latte when I asked about them. The food: I’d heard positive reviews, so I expected it to be good. However, it was even better than I thought it would be. The Jian Bing Chinese street crepe offered a medley of interesting and savory flavors, and the ham and gruyere crepe offered rich flavors of a classic combination with mustard aioli to complement. Other dishes we say looked amazing as well. The coffee: The simple black drip coffee was way better than average, providing notes of slightly complex nutty territory into hints of berry fruit. Superb match for the crepes. The latte was refined and delicate, pleasant and not too heavy. Such trendy yet upscale-leaning decor was distinct from other coffee shops and restaurants, and the patio looks spacious and cool as well. We’ll be back.
Really, really good coffee. And the atmosphere is perfection
Prices may seem a little high, but the attention to detail and commitment to quality is why. Great staff!
The lavender latte is amazing. Staff is very friendly & the space is very aesthetically pleasing!
Absolutely love swinging by Penny's for a quick snack and a latte! Crepes are obviously good...plus there's often unexpected food options that are always well curated. Keep it up!
I'm a coffee snob. Sometimes, this fact gets me in trouble (read "trouble" as: needing to drive an extra 5-10 miles to get what I consider good coffee). Luckily for me, Penny's is literally just an elevator ride from my office, and they have GREAT coffee. A coffee shop does not get my seal of approval until I know their espresso passes the test, and Penny's passed with flying colors. I haven't yet spent time in their shop, but the recently remodeled Washington Square lounge is looking hip and cozy, everything a coffee should should be. I'll be going here often for my soy lattes.
All around cool setting
Great place, off day. Penny's on Washington has a really nice decor for a modern coffee shop with custom woodwork tables, chairs, and counters. The menu offers something for most everyone at a price you would expect (it's not a chain and quality is a step above). I would definitely be back, but would hope for a couple things to change. My wife and I were delighted to find an open on Sunday morning quality café close to our hotel. My wife opted for the Avocado toast (because she's kitschy like that) and a breve, which is her favorite coffee treat. I had the light roast option, "Watson" a south American blend, and a delectable almond butter croissant, which hit the spot better than one of their handmade crepes would have. The breve was perfect, which some places manage to mess up, kudos! The Avocado toast was too oily and not salty enough (fatty avocados really do great with plenty of salt). The light roast tasted like a fine coffee but it was too thick as though they added about 50% more beans to brew than necessary (I grind and brew my own coffee everyday). I then tried the dark roast, which I generally avoid because all the nuanced flavor of the coffee beans is roasted out - it was only a little too strong and was satisfactory.
Really amazing space! Great coffee and service as well! It is a really great blend of a classy, corporate, minimalist lobby with a warm, comfortable coffee shop feel. Highly recommend!
Very impressed with their vanilla lattes, my husband ordered his with whole milk and I ordered mine with oat milk. The price is a little up there but the flavor of their lattes makes every penny worth it. Nice outdoor seating for you to enjoy on a beautiful day.
Nice niche to work, high ceiling for hatching lofty ideas. Good coffee and range of snacks.
Very good tasting coffee and I had a marinara crepe. Also good. If you’re in a rush don’t plan on getting it quick. We had a group of 3 so it took a bit for everything to be made. There’s good seating options, but when one person takes up a circle of clue chairs that gets kinda frustrating.
Cute well lit space. It was very busy on a chilly Sunday but we found a spot in the nearby building lobby.
Pricey place for a coffee, although cool location in the heart of Minneapolis.
If you want the best cup of coffee in downtown Minneapolis, you just found it! They start with the highest quality local ingredients and is made by the most wonderful individuals. They put so much attention to detail in each cup of coffee that it’s worth the extra couple bucks. Highly recommend the lavender latte and the golden latte!
Nice place, kinda high prices especially for basic black drip coffee, $3 for small cup.
Very modern little coffee shop with excellent coffee and great crepes! Would recommend.
Matcha latte and house made almond milk
Super friendly staff and an awesome patio to enjoy your beverage on.
Bright, beautiful space with friendly staff
Yum! Great space (lots of sun, cool green marble walls). Handful of sweet and savory drink and food options, executed flawlessly.
Delicious, fancy, and gorgeous outdoor seating area. There's even lawn bowling!
Beautiful setting. The crepes were very well done and delicious. Coffee was very well done. If I were to pick on anything it'd be the tea. I like to arrest the steeping of the tea to control the flavor profile. Their tea is served in a glass brewer that doesn't allow the leaves to be removed. Really nice tea for a first cup, but the second was a cup of tannic bitterness. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Good coffee.
Posh coffee joint with a hipster feeling
Fancy crepes and overwhelmed staff.
Great open-air feeling in an indoor setting (lots of glass!).
Great atmosphere! Loved the crepes. Highly recommend.
I visit Penny’s every week with a friend because the crepes are that phenomenal. If you’re just looking for coffee, I don’t have words of wisdom for you. I have gotten coffee when there, but have never been blown away. The crepes though...
Iove the vibe of this place. It's got a modern industrial feel to it that's so different from other places and they have a unique menu. Will keep coming back!
Finding the bathroom took forever since it's on the fourth floor of the building, but that aside, I enjoyed Sunday bunch with the misses. We shared a savory and a sweet crepe and a bearclaw. Seating can be difficult and the crepes took about 20mins to make so make sure it's a lazy Sunday option for you and you aren't in a rush.
Excellent coffee, on the strong side. Nice foam art touches on espresso drinks. Crêpes are super yummy. Staff is paced but not crazy. Can be little slow if busy.
This is a nice place to get coffee and do a bit of work. The staff was nice, and the food they were making (they make crepes here!) smelled so good. Pro-Tip: If you get the Golden Latte, ask for a shot or 2 of espresso. You won’t regret it
The coffee and pastries are amazing, but we were less enthusiastic about the savory dishes.
Penny's is my favorite coffee shop downtown. I often stop here before work and than take the skyway for the rest of the way. Great coffee, super friendly baristas, and absolutely gorgeous space!
Nice little coffee shop with very friendly people and great hot chocolate.
The aesthetics are so worth it. Try come on a sunny morning! ☀️
Expensive but cool and fun
Friendly service, good coffe, and especially the croissants.
Great atmosphere, service was very friendly. Coffe was excellent as well as their crepes.
Pricey for what you get but the food and coffee are very good.
Trendy and nice atmosphere. I recommend the black forest ham and gruyere crepe.
Very pretty inside. Great music choices. Good service.
Very good place
Good latte, cool ambiance. The service is slow but always friendly and attentive.
Lovely atmosphere and the staff is always super sweet, I love coming here with friends and then going for walks in the area
I give this a 5 star based in previous visits. Last time I went found out matcha had gone up in price. (Not happy) Maybe that was the bad taste in my mouth, because I thought the matcha was off this time around. The space is beautiful! Especially outside during the summer. Not a lot of seats inside though. Can't wait to try some of their food! The crepes look good as hell.
Crepes are amazing! Fun alternative place to meet someone for coffee.
Very good - will definitely be back. Bought a mocha here for the same price I paid at the Dunn Bros. around the corner earlier this week, but found this to be far better. Good customer service, too.
Had the black forest pig and gruyere crepe. It was pretty good, quite sweet though, but at least not nauseatingly sweet like so many crepes in the US. Ham, cheese, salad, vinegrete and aioli was quite a nice combination and appeared to be of an ok quality. The clientele seemed to spend a lot of energy trying to look trendy. Pretending to be in the city or something but most has likely never been outside Minnesota.
Went here on a Saturday morning for coffee and breakfast. Located in a nice apartment building in downtown Minneapolis. Small menu but serious attention to detail and aesthetics. Cozy place, nice people. That said, definitely on the higher price side. Good stuff, but the entrees could be more filling considering the cost. Bathrooms are on the 4th floor of this building. Lots of rich students studying here (wow, look at all the 2018 Macbook pros)! Definitely catering to the well to do.
Hip coffee shop, with California vibes, slightly off the main Downtown Minneapolis path. Perfect brew on a freezing winter day, and delicious oatmeal & yogurt as well.
It's expensive. There are other less expensive coffee places close to this place.
Very good light and flaky crepe. The latte was phenomenal. Lots of open natural light. There’s a nice patio outside as well. They had good music.
Some coffee shops are grab-and-go. Other coffee shops are attractive to office-less loungers--full of guests mostly because conveniences are free for the taking. Nothing against those uses, but neither of those come to mind as my first thought when I think about why I enjoy Penny's. This place probably attracts some of both types of guests, but I think it should be known for the atmosphere--the vibe--that it creates for those seeking artistically curated menu, presentation, furnishing, music and hospitality. It seems clear that someone worked hard to make Penny's a special place and it inspires me to do my best as I start the day. Great job, Penny's. I love what you do.
Amazing ambiance, great coffee.
Great coffee shop in a beautiful building we got a pink mint latte with oatmilk and it was delicious. You just feel nice being there everything feels curated but not overdone.
Greyere Crepe! Different atmosphere, pleasant though.
Great latte and space
Cool atmosphere and friendly staff; highbrow prices. I appreciate their efforts to pay a living wage and have quality products, but shelling out nearly $5 for even the simplest of coffee drinks is hard to justify, and doesn't leave much room for tipping. Joining bicycle benefits or offering a discount for bringing your own mug would be cool to see!
The coffee here is just to die for! Go in a see for yourself
Great coffee. Incredible food. Cool location. I just loved it all around.
They make the most amazing lattes.
Huge outdoor seating areas. Bocce court, very cool water sculpture! Bug out door space to enjoy.
Best coffee I've had in Minneapolis so far.
Up there with the best of them. Although the prices are quite high the setting is stellar. Winter or summer it is bomb, but the summer is where it shines in my humble opinion. It has a beautiful patio area and then there is another beautiful patio area of the building that you could also sit in. It is stunning and hip and I wish I didn’t love it so much, but alas I do. You can sit and enjoy the stunning views of the city. I usually get a chai or iced tea and they have been good every time. As well as all the food I have had has been excellent. I usually don’t like parking so I’ll take the bus to get there, which makes it better than paying for parking.
Excellent coffee!
Holy hell this place is cute but over priced af. How did I spend $25 on a tuna sando and tea??
Very cool coffee place. I had a latte and a honey butter crepe. Both were wonderful. The outdoor space is interesting while being relaxing. I could sit there for hours reading a book.
Five stars as the space itself is very cool and modern. Also, the staff was very courteous and patient while I asked about the menu. They also delivered my drink fairly quickly, but $6 for an almond milk latte?! That's not the life for me.
Wonderful ambience. Good place to spend a weekend morning eating delicious crepes. Their mocha is good too!
Good coffee here. Not really much to eat if you're a vegan though.
