The weather was very hot when we were there recently, which is unusual for Duluth, and this made it quite hot inside the restaurant since they do not have air conditioning. The building and parking lot are currently under construction and parking can be a challenge. However, it's definitely well worth the trouble. The food is absolutely top-notch and like no other place in town.

Took my Grandpa to New Scenic Cafe, who is a picky eater, and loved everything we got. We decided to get the special for the day and the chicken sandwich with brie on cranberry bread and a side of asparagus was outstanding. Would recommend you try it before the menu changes. They also have options for everyone whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or need gluten free. The location is beautiful with the view of Lake Superior shores. If you are looking for a nicer place with great food and a view this is the place for you.

Fantastic dishes! My only suggestion to make it even better would be to clear the chairs around the fire outside and cover them early in the evening. We would have enjoyed the fire as would many others. Near perfection on the meal!!!

I was quite surprised and pleased by this restaurant. From the road, it appears as a quaint little place that makes you want to visit because of the lovely gardens. Yet, inside... One is welcomed with gorgeous decor. It's really nice inside. And, who would have known there is a classical French restaurant up the shoe just a bit? I know I'll be back! Expected more... Certain appetizer dishes including the soup and muscles we're delicious. Others including the civiche left much to be desired. Overall atmosphere is very pleasant and serving staff was very attentive. I was left really wanting better but they just didn't deliver.

Sorry state of things when a restaurant prefers " high end food" over flavor.. our server was repugnant with Patchouli oil odor. It was just offensive. If you like your chicken noodle soup that tastes like the herbs and not the chicken then you would like the soup. The asparagus and egg sandwich was disappointing. The bread was good but that is about it. The fries were tasty. The Scandinavian egg salad sandwich with shrimp just didn't work. Bland egg salad and the shrimp was flavorless.

Whenever we take a trip up to Lutsen or Grand Marais, we stop in here on our way up. I've never had a meal I didn't like. The menu rotates with the seasons so you can find different options in summer fall and winter. My favorite meal so far has been the ahi tuna tacos. The last time I went I had a mushroom burger/sandwich which was also delicious.

We have been going at least once a year for many years and today was the first time it was horrible! So disappointing! Food was bland or just ok. The amount and quality of their dishes has drastically changed and it’s horrible! Sad to see this place go south! Never again paying hundreds of dollars for a handful of horrible food! Even after telling the waitress about our disappointment, basically shrugged her shoulders and did nothing. Don’t waste your money.

The lasagna is an incredible creation. Menu is well thought up and clearly there is a talented chef working there. I consider this to be a staple of the North Shore for a dinner date, small group, or anyone looking for an excellent, thoughtful menu.

For us a trip to the North Shore isn't complete without a meal at Scenic Cafe. The menu, which changes throughout the year, is always amazing and the service is wonderful, whether you're a table of two or ten. Save room for dessert, because they're definitely worth it! They do have a kids menu and on our most recent visit they provided lunch boxes with toys and games to entertain our kids in addition to the kid's menu to color on, which includes a North Shore scene.

AMAZING FOOD. Our party wanted to eat the whole menu. Fine dining and impeccable service. Modern but welcoming decor too. Charcuterie plate was a great starter for sharing. This is arguably the best restaurant in Minnesota! Make reservations if you want to guarantee a spot! The service is excellent, the food is amazing, and the location next to the lake with a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs to relax is a perfect way to spend and special lunch or dinner. Menu rotates frequently based on seasonal ingredients so there is always something new and delicious to try. Wonton tacos, maple figs, and lamb shank were all exceptional.

I would give it a 3.5 stars. The name was deceptive. I selected it because we'd have a great view of Lake Superior, but there was no view to speak of. Nonetheless, the service was good and the food as well if a bit pricey, $17 for hamburger and fries, for example. I would recommend it, however.

Amazingly good food. We stopped in for mimosas and soup and it was amazing. The price tag is high, but it's an upscale place with quality food so that's expected. The atmosphere is very cute, pale wood, branches, chic, the whole deal.

It looks like a little place in the side of the road. I was expecting quick cafe type food. I was very surprised by the menu. It was upscale cafe... Very gourmet and original. I take points off because the service was terrible. I was waiting for a table and standing in the lobby for about 15 minutes and no one even came out to say they would be back. The waitress barely came back. Every time I needed a drink refill, it would take at least 10 minutes. It took forever to get the bill as well. The hostess seating us gave us a list of the specials but couldn't answer questions about swaps. The food was good, but the service was bad. If you don't mind waiting, then I would recommend this place. If you hate waiting, then I would skip this place. I would say it could have been a bad day, but everyone seemed really relaxed with no sense of time or urgency. The view was good though!

Love this out of way restaurant. It is somewhat upscale, yet casual at the same time. The food is unique and locally sourced by vendors from both MN and WI. I recommend any seafood dish there as you can bet it will be fresh and extremely tasty. If are visiting Duluth, I would say that this and Betty's Pies are a must!

I was looking for the best restaurant in Duluth, and Itbseems like I found it. The wild mushroom crepe is to die for. Exquisite subtle flavors. Jen, my server recommended a fabulous wine to go with it. Kudos to Jen for knowing the wine pairings so well. A Jokul from Slovenia, I think. It was exactly what the dish needed. Some nice touches in the entree and the creme brûlée’s desert was a nice twist on an old favorite, with lingonberries underneath the perfect accompaniment.

Rarely do you walk out of a place with a big party where everyone enjoyed everything they had. Well this is one of those places. All the food was delicious and well balanced. I also appreciated the variety of food that they had while also keeping a good Scandanavian vibe to the food. My egg and asparagus sandwich on ciabatta was the best I've ever had. Destination restaurant for sure, glad I was able to check it off the list.

What a great find! The food here was excellent as well as the waitstaff. The menu was interesting and our food was beautifully plated. They try to source as much of the food locally and organically, which was important to us. The lake is right outside and can be enjoyed from a variety of lawnchairs set amongst colorful landscaping. We bookmarked this restaurant and will be making it a regular visit when in Duluth.

Wonderful venue fabulous meals! We had a group of 8, 6 adults and 2 children 8 years old. Reservations were made and a old time lunch boxes loaded with fun activities for each child was waiting for us at the table. Such thought and detail to everything needed for our group. 2 Vegans and there was no problem with meal substitution. We will be back! Very highly recommended!

Overall a very pleasant meal, but things definitely started off a little rocky. The parking lot didn’t have any spots (and looked like a construction zone) and although we called ahead and booked a 6:15 reservation we weren’t seated until 6:26. We started our meal off with the muscles which were terrific and ended it with the river trout which was cooked to perfection. The only miss was the pork appetizer which came with berries. The flavor profiles were all over the place and it didn’t seem very well thought out. The artwork (which was available for sale) was overpriced. Still a nice evening and next time I’m in Duluth I’ll certainly consider another meal here.

Great spot for eating right on the shore. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. The lamb meat loaf was done just right and not dry. The chicken and pork chilli was a great mix, and had chunks of vegetables. Great texture, great taste, and just enough spice. The cream brulee was great and came with a ginger cookie that was crisp, even bake, and paired well with the brulee. The price is a bit higher than other places in the area but it was worth it. There are also sandwich options that are a little bit less expensive.

Best place I've ever eaten in my whole life hands down. They are a little expensive. My girlfriend and I went to your and it cost a little over $100 for the meal. Normally I don't spend that much on a meal and I would complain if I spent half as much on a meal. But new Scenic Cafe is well worth it, I have zero complaints. As a special night out you can't get a better place to go. I can't recommend this highly enough. I wish I could go everyday.

My friends really hyped this place up. You definitely need reservations, very small and the parking lot was full on a Friday night. Service was kinda slow, but friendly. Really cool art and decor, though, and I liked the overall atmosphere. Maybe I was too adventurous on my meal choice, I've never had fried quail before and like, I dunno, it just wasn't my thing. It was probably prepared perfectly but my immature palate was overwhelmed. The creme brulee was tasty, though it is served cold, which I guess is traditional? I wasn't expecting to feel like such a pleb eating at a restaurant north of Duluth. I'll probably just get a chicken sandwich next time. Overall it was a fine, albeit expensive, dinner. I think you mostly get what you pay for here. -1 star for user error and reality crushing.

Entrees are definitely dinner sized in both portions and price which made for too much food and too much money for a lunch time outing. Little can be said of this North Shore dining legend that hasn't been said before. Attentive and friendly staff, high quality ingredients expertly prepared and presented making for a wonderful, can't be missed experience. Had the tuna tacos for a starter - enough food for two and nicely done. I had the Canadian Hot Chicken sandwich - which is a plated sandwich consisting of a pulled chicken thigh and mashed potatoes drowned in a deliciously done gravy topped with peas. This is an explosively filling sandwich that could have been easily halved (or shared) for a lunch serving. Wife had the beautiful Salmon Burger - perfectly seasoned and a feast for the eyes (that black bun is stunning).

Service is always second to none. The food is the star though. The excellent presentation doesn't defeat the superb flavor. They have a great chef. Recent updates to the building should make it even more enjoyable. I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Horrible Horrible!! Cannot say this enough! We had water to drink, no ice! Waitress was indifferent. The 3 of us had a soup, fried rice, and a salmon burger ( with grapes (5)), I had the salmon thing on a black bun which was tasteless. I asked the waitress why the bun was black and she said that it was colored with Squid Ink! God I almost threw up right then and there. Parking was horrible, inside the cafe was crowded and cramped. The best part of the whole experience was the people I was with and of course Lake Gitche Gumee. Which the restaurant had nothing to do with.

The presentation was impeccable but the rest of the food was not. I had the Sashimi Tuna tacos and did not love them. In fact, I usually finish my plate but I only could stomach half. The other two people in my party had the chicken and waffles and the French toast. The waffle came out burnt and the chicken was tasteless. The French toast was great until she got to the middle and noticed that it was not fully cooked. Overall, things look much better than they taste. I really wanted to love this place but I just could not.

A stylized Scandinavian "cabin" over looking the shores of Lake Superior. They offer limited menus of surprising combinations for their entrees. As well, they have a few traditional staples to choose from such as a chicken sandwich or burger. But these too are surprising. I went with the burger, which caused a family dispute...after I said it was perhaps the best burger I've ever had. I was with my sister and she owns a Supper Club. WELL worth the drive and prices! This was such a treasure to find. The other restaurant nearby was closed on Monday. Cute decor. Service was professional, fast and friendly. The food was delicious, especially the pistachio and goat cheese salad. I really appreciate the non-alcoholic mocktail menu. I had the Elderflower. It was superb.

Please don't come to New Scenic on your vacation. The food is excellent, location is beautiful, service is friendly, and did I mention the fresh food, interesting wines, seasonal menus (figs coming back in the fall!). But we'd rather keep this gem to ourselves.

I really wanted to love this place.The hostess was great and really friendly. We had our little one and they have these cute lunch boxes with a book, crayons and other things for entertainment. I thought it was a nice touch. The food was pretty good. We got the mussels to share which had great flavor. I got wonton tacos and those were just okay. It was a warm day and the whole place was pretty warm which can negatively impacted our dining experience. That along with our server not being very attuned tainted our visit. We had to ask for the bill 3 times and asked for a to go box twice and still didn't get one. We left the food there. She completely forgot our drinks but seemed to remember every other table. So we likely won't be back again.

What a wonderful treat - scenic is correct. Small problem. Tripped and fell on a long walk to the front door. There were a couple rubber mats down I'm guessing because it can be slick. Really should put in a hand rail.

Amazing food; incredible service; beautiful place. The menu is eclectic, including local favorites and ingredients, dabbles in numerous regional and international cuisines, (asian, mexican, middle eastern, southern) but manages to pull it together into something coherent, unpretentious, somehow Scandinavian in overall character, and most importantly, very tasty. The ahi sushi tacos (always available, off the menu) are not sushi and are not tacos, but are wonderful.

The restaurant sets the bar in the area, and most can't dream to reach it. The menu is always changing but offers selections that please just about anyone. Service is knowledgeable and professional. The food is a standout experience that you will remember. Food is always prepared to perfection and the combinations of smells and taste take you on a journey that is worth the drive.

New Scenic Cafe is one of Minnesota's best restaurants. Amazing location and the best food north of Duluth. Come ready to wait, but luckily there's Lake Superior across the street. High quality food, great service, cool menu items that rotate and often feature great vegetables. Chicken sandwich is an all time favorite. Definitely on the more expensive side of dining options up on the north shore but the value is there. The food is of very good quality and the service is incredibly helpful. I ordered the squid ink burger and although it sounded odd it was one of the better flavored burgers I have had.

The presentation was impeccable but the rest of the food was not. I had the Sashimi Tuna tacos and did not love them. In fact, I usually finish my plate but I only could stomach half. The other two people in my party had the chicken and waffles and the French toast. The waffle came out burnt and the chicken was tasteless. The French toast was great until she got to the middle and noticed that it was not fully cooked. Overall, things look much better than they taste. I really wanted to love this place but I just could not.
