REVIEWS OF Jax Cafe IN Minnesota

Michael Howe

Great message ld world supper club. The hidden treasures is their patio. Quiet and relaxing even with a full crowd.

Will Garner

Good steaks, nice old bar, catch your own rainbow trout in the summer! Since 1933!

Andy Sharp

Classic and elegant dining from a different era. Trout stream and romantic grotto seating. Best brunch in Minneapolis

Larry Allen

Always a relaxing good meal.

Nate Benyousky

Atmosphere was old school with wood and leather accents. Had a limited menu for a party. It was fine. The larger menu looks nicer. Go for the atmosphere, if that is your thing.

Elizabeth Etlicher

Love the happy hour! Classic place to chill and chat.

Lizzie Hernandez

Jax is the ONLY place to go for business, coziness, friendship, a little romance ... any type of gathering. Wait Staff phenomenal ... food items are the best ... the Polish sausage today and every day is exceptional; mild flavor, not salty ... absolutely delicious. I had the salmon special with BBQ hint butter sauce and green beans ... outstanding. The salad was fresh, crisp, cold and topped with shredded cheese and homemade croutons. The bread basket ... I could eat that by itself ... prepared with a hint of butter and very chewy! Dessert was homemade Bailey's chocolate cake with a whisper of cream cheese ... again, outstanding. I just gobbled it up. I had plenty to eat, yet stepped away very comfortable. It's my favorite place to eat. And, the music that's piped in is great. Try Jax ... you'll like it and will be glad you went there.

Danforth Messerly

Very cool vintage atmosphere, incredible wood paneling and incredible classic bar area. Steaks and food are some of the best in Minnesota.

Diane Diioia

I have to say I think the place over books. Our price we paid and the portions we received were small.. we made reservations on line. They didn't receive it. Parking was bad. Ran around outside tryrying to let the others know about the reservation problem. The night was a mess. As we were all dressed up running around outside. To TOP it off lost a beautiful earing running around and getting pushed through the bar area.

Skip Schaeffer

Always a pleasure to dine here. Professional and friendly old-world service. They've been around since 1933. We ate outside on the back patio with the trout stream. Nice cozy space. It was our 25th wedding anniversary. We're had our wedding reception here in 1994. Another couple here was celebrating their 50th on ther same night. Patio is a great place for group photos. Expensive menu, but food was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Generous portions.

Pearl Vork-Zambory

Jax is the height of graciousness. Friendly yet non-obtrusive wait staff, clean and welcoming, it never fails to impress. The food is so good, and I crave their shrimp cocktail. And speaking of cocktails, do. Do the cocktails, and ask for a table in the courtyard.

Paul Ericson

A unique gem in Nordeast. You will not be disappointed.

Slavikbrood

Everything was great up until my brother found a piece of hair wrapped around his steak. They did offer him to replace it, along with having dessert, he declined. They also took his food off the bill. They were very nice and professional from the phone call all the way til we paid and left. I do not mind going there again.

A A

Food was ok, had prime rib french dip and my Grandmother's I took there had chicken salad for lunch. For $15 a plate it was the same quality as a dive bar. Most likely a better upscale dinner place.

Kim Gillman

Great food. Went there for a wedding. Really nice.

John Kartes

Food was good. ordered the Jax burger med well got it med rare. Asked for a side of french dressing and was denied. Baileys Cake was Awesome!

Div Patel

Was there for an event, really cool that you can catch your own trout for dinner. Great food, little pricey though.

Diane Blaschko

Jax is a great unusual dinner club. We go every year for lutefisk (yummy holiday specialty). In the spring catch your own fish. Truly a unique and special night out in the town

Lisa Curski

Food and ambience was as amazing as always. We love celebrating at Jax!

Valerie Coykendall

I haven't been here for years. My mom and I decided to stop after an art fair and it was fabulous. I has the scallops and she had the walleye. Very good and our server was lovely.

Louis Zoss

Great Scotch selection for a restaurant. Food was decent.

JASON WOLFE

Luis the bartender was amazing.. the prime and lobster were spot on juicy amd fresh .

johnny herlofsky

Amazing atmosphere! Wonderful staff!!! Great food of course!

Mark McKane

Lobster dinner was great!

Josephine Walsh

Jax was an unexpected find as we were exploring Minneapolis on bikes. The location is unassuming and you would never guess there was a high end steak house inside. We walked in and almost left because we were worried we were underdressed but were quickly welcomed by the friendly bar staff, and the owner who was also working the host station.

Pamela Sullivan

Old fashioned dining at it's best.

Stephanie James

Fabulous Waldorf salad, atmosphere us very old school, charming and fun. Loved the Chistmas decorations and old fashioned wood phone booths...I haven't seen those in a LONG time

david crowe

Good food friendly staff

Annette Marie Nesseth

Had the Best 80th Birthday Party for my mom. The staff was amazing! I loved the Prime Rib Bolognese, my daughter had half rack of ribs and said 10 out of ten! Great night celebrating !

Stephan Adair

We went for the Sunday brunch, which was a buffet for $27 per person. It featured an omelet bar, yogurt bar, dessert bar, and an arrangement of other breakfast foods. Everything we tried was prepared well and seemed fresh. I greatly enjoyed almost everything I ate. The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the grilled vegetables that were served chilled. They were unique and I had to try them, but they are not for me. It was also a special treat to listen to live piano music. The pianist played several Disney songs that were quite nostalgic.

Molly John

This was the best brunch ever! Loved this place.

Brett Bennett

For Northeast restaurants, it's doesn't get better than this. Excellent food and drink selection combined with a great back patio and professional wait staff. Perfect for dates or groups.

Matthew Smith

Excellent food, great staff.

Kevin Skogg

Old stand by. Went to a banquet and the buffet food was very good.

Patty Swan

Came for happy hour at 5 on Saturday during holiday season. Was lucky to get a seat in one of the booths in the bar area without a reservation and no waiting. We had two servers assisting us. Our primary sever was Bob. Both were very attentive and courteous. We ordered the prime rib sandwich and nordeast beer special for $10 and an order of fries. Delicious sandwich and the fries are pretty good too. Bob even brought us out to the back patio where it's decorated nice for Christmas and took our picture. I always have a good experience here. I love Jax!

Stevi Rose

I wish there were more than 5 stars. My husband and I have lived in Minneapolis for years, and never dined here. We decided to try it out today for a brunch date. It was fabulous with many delicious buffet options. My only feedback would be that the benedict was tough to eat, as the english muffin may have been sitting too long. I was hoping for more seafood options, but there was pickled herring and salmon that were very good. The trout stream out in the patio is so neat, and the service was spectacular. We chatted about it being the best dining experience we have had in a long time. Brittany and her team did a fabulous job serving us, and even took time to share a little history with me. We will definitely be dining here on the regular.

Jeffrey Pomeroy

Had great service and great food. Just keep in mind the price is higher. However you do get for what you pay for!

Gary T. Reynolds

A local establishment that's been around for years with GREAT FOOD & ATMOSPHERE... enjoy. 20th & University Ave. N. E. Minneapolis.

Michael Gjere

Last night was my first time here. The prime rib grilled cheese was spectacular. Easily the best I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly. Though it was busy, we got seated quickly due to a maître d' that was so amazing, I felt embarrassed for not carrying cash to thank him profusely (I won't forget next time, Doug!) The wait staff was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. This restaurant just got added to the top of my rotation.

dave miller

Very nice old school place. Good menu and professional staff. On the spendy side but terrific for special celebrations. They will print your name and celebration on match books at your table. 5 stars.

Karen Gustafson

Attended rehearsal dinner here. Room we were in was very nice, wait staff was very friendly and attentive, paid special attention to the children in our party. Food was very good, served at appropriate temp.

Benjamin Tucci

Love this place. Esp Sunday brunch

Mark Bakken

Beautiful ,very nice older establishment. Been around for years. Excellent food. Prices are on the higher end.

cheryl rivard

Jax is a very lovely place for a better than average dining experience. The wait staff are so on too of everything. The menu is a bit elitist, and the prices match but absolutely wonderful! I really enjoyed the fries. Really good!

James Sharpe

Best for and service in town!!

Marc Richardson

This place is excellent for steak If you haven't tried it I suggest you go there and you try it you won't be disappointed but you gonna wanna make a reservation.

Karen Mason

Jax is an upscale wonderful restaurant which reminds us of supper clubs of days gone by. The food is excellent and it is fun to watch diners catch their own trout.

Donna Limback

Old school food in an old school setting with great old school service. Sometimes it's feels good to go back in time. Was the food to die for? No, but it was comfortable. Very pricey.

Lisa Bright

Wonderful food, staff was good. It was a banquet so cannot comment on prices.

Kelly B

Great classic old school steakhouse

Hailey Murdick

Fantastic food and fantastic wait staff. Go in and ask for Monica every time. Couldnt be more happy with my first time visit to Jax. We will definitely be back!

Karla Weinand

Great place to celebrate. Hard working and polite staff in the upper level for our large dinner group.

Steve H-M

Horribly overpriced and painfully average food. Wine and drinks hideously expensive with average ingredients. . . . Time for Jax Cafe to get real. When you charge as much as they do you had better have superior service and Jax Cafe's service staff is too busy to serve hot food to you or assure ur water glass is filled. Dinner is an interminably long experience for overpriced, average food provided by indifferent service staff.

gerralyn97

Celebrated my 21st birthday at jax cafe and I must say it was the most pleasant dining experience I have ever had in my life. We made reservations but were able to be seated early when we arrived. They had the cutest personalized matchbooks with my name on it when we got to our table, and we received our appetizers and dinner very quickly. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and made exactly how I would hope. Our server was phenomenal. So kind and helpful, she even boxed our leftovers without us asking her to. Overall, I wish I could give this place an even higher rating because I am floored at the quality, food, service, and setting. 10/10 from me.

Chris Halverson

Traditional old school steakhouse. Steaks are a specialty and always done right. The desserts are always good. Service is good and what you would expect from a higher end restaurant. They also have an extensive brunch. Outdoor patio by a stream (with fish in it) is a nice touch when the weather is nice.

Mat Anderson

Food varies, some meals are quite good and some are not. Service is where they could improve, our group was there for a meeting for 3 hours with only one water fill up for half of the tables.

Pennie Bucilla

The owner at the reservation desk was unpleasant and dismissive despite the fact we had a reservation and were on time. We were seated 10 minutes later and there were 3 empty tables in a cluster beside us. My first choice from the menu was unavailable. My second choice included fries which were dry and had been sitting. Most of the time we couldn't hear the pianist because of the noise in th place. Our waiter was attentive. No complaint there. My dates steak was $48 and he paid extra for some of those awful fries. I encourage you to avoid Jax.

Timesha Beattie

Thank you for hosting us. I didn't enjoy the food here. I think our cooking styles differ; therefore my expectations are not being met by the style of cooking. It's extremely bland. There's no SOUL in the food.

Diane Crimmins

Always great! Good food with big portions.

angela randle

Excellent service awesome food great cocktails beautiful outdoor Garden highly recommended

Adam Knoke

Beautiful patio. Dated interior. Food was uninspired, cooked incorrectly and seriously over priced compared to other places in town.

Kelley Hardeman

Always The best..Most friendly...Every Year for Mom's Birthday...Today she's 75 and Jax biggest fan ❤ Happy Birthday Mom

Ben Carlson

As mentioned in the book, A Boy From Wollochet by N. Todd Riggs, this place sounds astounding and I am making it a priority to visit and have the Oysters!

Alan Holliday

So I love Jax. Their outside patio is fantastic, the water, the flowers, the trees... beautiful. The inside is romantic, charming and old school. Tonight's meal was ok. I have had better there. The matches are always fun and a cool keepsake.

Rob Jorgenson

Excellent staff. They have the best Prime Rib in Minneapolis. Easy parking and a very good wine list. Jax has been there since 1933 and they have the original menu in the bar. Nice banquet space in the upper level.

Brad Kaluza

Good happy hour deals but we had the pierogies and instead of frying them in butter they deep fried them! Yuck!

Shalon Johnson

Extraordinary place. Staff was very inviting & friendly. Even if the member wasn't your waiter, they would still engage in conversation and make sure I was being taken care of . The food was delicious and hot . I loved environment of it all , very elegant and welcoming. The pricing is a little expensive, on average per person it was approx $60. It was well worth it though .

Jane Goset

Great service and equally great food. It can get spendy fast but if you have a special occasion, treat yourself!

Grace Cassel

Dreamy garden patio. Dated food but I'll forgive it for the atmosphere and happy hour deals

Erick Berzinski

Great food wonderful people but very spendy.

Hibo Guled

It's a great Restaurant. Pricey but good food, good ambience and great service.

Valerie Tema

Went for Sunday brunch and really was not impressed, nor have I been the last few times I have gone here. - Reservation was for 12:30 and we didn’t get seated till after 12:50. - There was a VERY chilly draft where we were seated that the server said she would let someone know about, but the whole time the radiator near us was ice cold and we were all freezing. - Food is seriously sub-par, especially for what they charge. BLAND and just not seasoned or salty enough, and the bacon was cold. - Server was warm and friendly enough, but the service was slow, especially seeing that it’s a buffet. I kept having to ask for more coffee and I feel like they should be more attentive and bring the pot over before I have to ask. - My dad ordered a second beer which never actually came. Forgot to check if he got charged for it or not.

Sarah Byrd

It was not the cleanest place but the food was good

Noah Lucas

Classic restaurant, excellent food, professional staff. Visited this restaurant in June as a recommendation from a friend. We were blown away by the quality of the food and service. The staff were almost too kind because they would come to our table to tell us stories. I would say the dress code is professional casual and nicer. Definitely ask to sit out in the garden courtyard during the summer. Beautiful. I ordered the lobster roll and it was excellent. This restaurant is also know for it's exquisite steaks.

bubba gump

Meh.... Overrated. Went for a Valentine's dinner special. It was "ok".... just basic. appetizers were bland.... steak was ok.... Mancinis is better, Tinuccis supper club was better, Burch Steak was better... everyone kept saying "you gotta try Jax its so good". It was good, just was not amazing in the slightest. Very unimpressive for what we paid for a Valentines "special" dinner..... we could have had 4 steaks at Mancinis, better service and better food for what we paid. Jax is a "staple" of that area from what everyone told me. My personal opinion- overpriced and overrated. Save your money and go to Burch if you want a serious chunk of meat, if you want the supperclub feel go to Tinuccis or Mancinis.... skip Jax and get a better meal for a better price. ******Edit***** So I get a snarky reply back from this place??? Really??? The reason I didn't post right away was 1) Jax WAS THAT FORGETTABLE on Valentine's day 2) Didn't think about my experience again until Google reminded me I blew $200 + tip on dinner for two on an underwhelming experience.... judging by your reviews vrs other Twin Cities "staples" that have been around for years and also newer upscale restaurants you have some work and catching up to do both on service and food quality. I will make sure to NOW remember you and let others know about my subpar experience at your establishment.

kale severson

Visited for a retirement party, beautiful place and good food. I love the old time feel.

R David Koby

Classy white tablecloth, American menu, dining at this well known and long established restaurant. Excellent steak and seafood. Pick your trout from the pond behind the outdoor patio dining area. For lunch today I had an outstanding cup of vegetable beef soup, followed by the hamburger steak. It was high quality beef and real flavorful. Good service by James. Their outdoor patio landscaping and little waterfall and pond is very beautiful. All in all, a nice lunch..

Brad Davis

Normal food at very high prices. I got a chicken salad that was dry for $17. It was worth at most $5. Would not recommend for others unless you like the history and nice garden outside in spring/summer. We went in winter.

Melissa Do

Amazing food and service! Our host, Luis, was so nice and was very kind on the phone when we made our reservations and had questions about the restaurant. Roxanne, our waitress, has great recommendations. You can definitely tell she’s a veteran server and exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend this restaurant and highly recommend Roxanne.

Carolina Margaria

The patio is gorgeous and the food was great. We went for late night happy hour (8:30 pm) and it was a fantastic deal. You can get a prime rib sandwich and Nordeast for $10! I'd skip the Gorgonzola bread but the sausage, fries, and prime rib were great!

Toby Kvalevog

On our first stop at Jax Cafe, my wife and I were more than impressed with the beautiful outdoor dining experience and service. The food was absolutely wonderful (Prime Rib

Joe Fowler

Great food, fantastic patio

Amber Patneaude

Truely Above My Expectations! Beautiful inside. The staff is very respectful and there is someone playing the piano. Food is delicious and melts in your mouth when it should melt. The chef is truly amazing!

L Carlson

Great drinks, delicious apps, peaceful patio

Wendy Brandt

Very classy, expensive, relaxing. Slow leisurely dining. Reservations needed.

Jason Velcheck

Stopped in for happy hour drinks and appetizers on a hot summer afternoon. Great street parking right outside the front door in addition to their own private parking lot across the street. Bar was very well air conditioned, nice and cool on a hot summer afternoon. The shrimp cocktail were impressive, huge shrimp and ice cold. The perogies were awesome.

Cat bell

This place is a must visit for anyone seeking a delicious and elegant night out. If you are looking for a unique experience, try netting your own dinner in the stream. The French onion soup and Waldorf salad just started our appetites and the steak with crispy hash browns was fantastic. I had the jumbo lemon garlic shrimp, and it was done to absolute perfection. Don't wait, or hesitate, make reservations today.

Rickard Simon

Excellent food, excellent service. Never disappoints.

Bryan Carleton

Best ribeye, always great service

Bobbie Abrahamson

Everything was wonderful! If it's a special occasion, they print matchbooks for the table!

Katie Sawatsky

Always excellent, from the food to the atmosphere to the service. Do yourself a solid and order the crab rolls.

Darlene Newcomb Bergman

Excellent brunch ... Enjoyed going with father-in-law for years, this year ... for the new memories.

Ludvig Stone

Great special occasion place to fine. Very old Supper Club feel. We love to go each year to have lutefisk, a Norwegian delicacy available around the holidays. They also have really great Tom n Jerry's for the holidays. All of the food was good, service was exceptional. Overall a delightful night out. If you go in Spring, you can catch your own fish!

Paul L

Our favorite! Very nice!

Kayana Ross

Jax was a little disappointing. We went for our 40th wedding Anniversary. Took about 1/2 hour to a Sprite which was flat and ice tea. Appetizer where great crab cakes and oysters .Then main course Dan had prime rib very good then for me I ask for three differant thing 2 on menu and one from on line to be told they did not have so I had special swordfish it was burnt to a crisp dry and left terrible taste in my mouth my husband had baked potato with out any butter or anything to put on it. My first try disappointing

bernadine mittelbach

Great great plce

Andrew Kramarczuk

In general a fine choice. And, the pianist today was EXCELLENT. She played a rather tricky Chopin piece by memory. Highlight of the experience -thanks!!

Sean Hollands

More of an experience than a food destination but worth a stop while you can sit outside

Jeff Bouldin

When we visit a new town we always look for the oldest restaurants. Jax came up in this search in Minneapolis. All I can say is there is a great reason why this place has been serving drinks and food since the 1930s. This has been one of our favorite experiences in our travels across this great nation. Do yourself a huge favor. Visit Jax, sit on the patio, and someone order the trout!

Myles Lembke

Food was good, wait staff was excellent, fish was full of bones but tasty

Sam Hentges

Good service and nice atmosphere. I found my potato to be more akin to a raisin, however, and my filet mignon was just alright and unevenly cooked.

Scott Smith

A great old school steak house (with plenty of other options on the menu as well). Vintage old atmosphere inside and a beautiful back patio for dining outside in nice weather. Excellent for steaks and cocktails. Love this place.

betty hackbarth

Loviest patio, great food

Michael Doyle

Service was very poor. Took an hour and 15 minutes to get food once ordered. Waitress was not communicative or helpful. Ribeye wa ordered medium and came out rare.

James Taylor

Jax is absolutely amazing and fantastic! Four of us went there last night and were completely bowled over by our food ($10 prime rib sandwich AND a good beer), our waiter (Brandon), the setting, and noise level. Wonderful, wonderful

deb pederson

Patio was perfect place to be on a beautiful summer day. Portions are small and salad is Ala cart.

Co Co

French Onion Soup was excellent. My filet and hash browns were good. But the service on Thursday night was atrocious. Too old. Too comfortable. Too clueless. Too much job security.

Lennygrace Love

We had our company party in one of their party rooms. Waitstaff were friendly and kept our beverages full. A very nice experience. Only negative is that the buffet ran out of some food items before everyone had a serving. I highly recommend Jax Cafe

Gary Lehman

Great atmosphere. Excellent food. Wonderful service. Hard to beat.

Dee Cjera

Best fine dining restaurant in the twin cities!! Friendly staff and great steaks :)

grandmaand unusual

Food, service, live piano music - everything was delightful.

Brittany Larsen

Amazing experience! The one night a year you can pretend you are made of money! Awesome for romantic dates or a nice place for family events! The outside seating area is amazing and so was the prime rib sandwich and scallops we had!

Foccocia

Amazing food, ambiance and service

Robert Headings

Been eating there for years my father in law Vernon Whitbeck ate there for over 40 they have the best prime rib in Minn. Michael the manager is very friendly and treats you like family. We just love that place ITS THE BEST! ITS LIKE EATING AT THE WHITE HOUSE WITHOUT ANY DEMOCRATS THERE!

Randy Barney

The environment is nice the food is excellent a great choice if you're looking to bring somebody out and have a nice evening

Wini Bauman

High quality service and elegant atmosphere. The outside seating is an experience in itself. Ask about the date night dinner for two that they do not advertise. It's excellent!

Deana Hansen

Prices aside, the food is amazing! The atmosphere, you cannot find anywhere. Inside, it's warm and cozy. The patio is just wow. With the water and the flowers it's beautiful. Makes for an unique date night.

Rockford Rocker

The kind of place where you pay 50 bucks for a steak and think "man that was awesome!". Yep, THAT good. Worth every penny.

Keyvan Pouyan

Good food, service, and nice view

Dana Mahowald

Sunday brunch is high quality with plenty of really fresh food. Especially love the carving stations, omelette station (with table service), and thick crispy bacon, grilled veggies, marinated veggies and poached salmon, yum!!!

CeeCee D

Came here for my sister-in-law's birthday had a great time staff was a little overwhelmed at the size of our group but we had a reservation so all in all took care of us very nicely

Sarah Bjorklund

We had a big dinner here for our grandma’s birthday. They did a great job with our large group and the food was so good! Can’t wait to come back.

Cara Johnson

I went to Jax for a Celebration of Life for a friend who recently passed away! The place is huge and beautiful! We had a whole dinning area that seated at least 80 people! The servers were great and the food was 4/5! If you need space for a reception, graduation or any kind of gathering I recommend Jax!

Alex Franco

Viva la Rasa! The food was excellent. We're going back for more.

Rochelle Washington

Beautiful.. inside and out

Nolan Brey

Transcendent culinary experience. 6 stars. Dress nice or feel like a scrub.

Al Adair

Food always great fab wait staff

Jody Manning

Awesome patio. Great Happy hour.

ian swanson

Who doesn't love Jax? Hung? Anyone? I will fight you!

David T

Came for lunch. I had passed this place several times and never noticed it. The food was SO full of flavor! I had steak salad and the Bolognese. The steak salad was the best one I have ever had. I would recommend and return to Jax just for that. The Bolognese used steak and the sauce several layers of flavor - exquisite. I'm not a big fan of the decor however, the service was so engaging and fun I stopped noticing.

Jack Boyd

Great staff, nice atmosphere, and price to go with it... Overall great experience...

Pat Remington

The best Ribeye in town. Great people!

Ian Johnson

A fantastic place for a brunch buffet. Very classy establishment with top notch food, even in the buffet.

Lu BIXLER

Thank you Paul and Sarah Hackbarth for a very special blared birthday dinner it was unforgettable thank you!!!! I love you both.

Rebecca Foy

Pricey, but worth it. Excellent brunch selections.

John Falzone

Nice atmosphere. But the bartenders explanation for the $12.00 Moscow mule was a joke. I was embarrassed for the guy. He said " they use goslings ginger beer " Like its high end. We buy it at Jerry's foods for $1.79 per liter. Retail. Top that with Smirnoff vodka. In a smaller then average mug. All and all, kind've a joke. Simply greed.

Tracie Borgeson

Great food! The brunch is awesome.

Robyn Gaylord

Had an awesome family dinner for my grandma's 80th birthday party. Allison was a fantastic and delightful server! The food was soooo good!

Cynthia Suzanne

My family gathered at Jax for Easter, and the food was...of course, delicious...the sticker shock, however, did cause a bit of indigestion. Simply put, this did not feel like a $50 plate service. Thankfully, at least we found a lucky coin on the floor, which helped offset the cost. It was definitely crowded with plenty of those more than able to cover the bill without thought. Since I am a teacher, however, I don't have an unlimited budget and expect to receive a fantastic dining experience at this price point. This brunch fell a bit below what I could have hoped for. First, the arrangement of the buffet courses was more than a bit awkward. Which looked like customers bumping into each other in line, new customers being directed through the buffet line to get to their seats, and no direct linear path between the salads, entrees, desserts. Second, one would expect something more than the standard prime rib/ham/omelette service that could be found for half the price in Columbia Hts or Fridley. Finally, there was a limited and uninspired selection of salads and desserts. In fairness, the wait staff is so gracious and attentive, they were the stars that shone at this brunch. And....Jax's food IS of consistently fine quality in spite of its lack of imagination. I gave 3 stars due to the lack of inspired menu, and the need for greater attention to set up and layout of flow during the service. I love its deco pub atmosphere and WILL be back to dine at Jax - just not at the buffet :-) xoxo

george rerat

Truly a classic. What a wonderful place for a family get-together. The Sunday brunch is incredible, everything you would want and more. The quality of the food is fantastic, the table service is friendly kind and perfect. There is none better in Minneapolis - St. Paul.

Janet Swanson

Excellent food, wonderful service! A true gem in Northeast Minneapolis!

Stephanie Randolph

It was pretty good. For the prices though I expected to be more impressed with the food.

Angela Salzl

Great food, great service

Josh Swen

The food was excellent and the service was phenomenal

ceci f

We had my brother's wedding there. The wait staff was amazing and the patio was beautiful...perfect for a tiny wedding and the reception. My only gripe....and others in the party...was that we had to send our steaks back. Imagine .. At a steakhouse where this is their specialty... Cutting into your beautiful filet and it's grey all tge way through! Wait staff was apologetic, but it took another 30 plus min to get our new plates. In receiving our new steaks they were perfect...medium rare. I just couldn't believe how overdone they were. Truely past well! Again overall it was a pleasant experience.

Vant Washington

Great food and wonderful admostphere.

Dawn Benjamin

My Husband had a Steak Dinner and I had Salmon with Roasted Potatoes and Sauteed Green Beans and afterwards we had a delicious white and black layered cake with white frosting and a bow tie on it! My Husband and I had a Investment and Financial meeting here and then we were served a Delicious meal!!

Faith A

Coconut and white chocolate mousse dessert was excellent, as was my meal. The food at Jax is always excellent, as is the wait and bar staff.

Samuel O'Howard

Went to Jax with a party of 6. We sat right near the piano which was a wonderful live accompaniment to dinner. The food was delicious and plentiful. Highlight of the night had to be our waiter Bob, I cannot speak highly enough of him. He was friendly witty and prompt with everything we needed. Can't wait to go back again.

Grant Rostad

Great service! Great food!

Brian Christensen

Really great brunch. If I'm back in the area I'd like to try out dinner and drinks.

Micky Finch

This was just yummy. The amount of choices was very nice and the food was really good. By the time we got the the dessert table there was hardly anything there. But the pastries were so good along with everything else we ate.

Jennifer Marchlewski

Everything on the menu is fabulous. Their bacon is to die for. My favorite on the menu is their Caesar salad with grilled salmon on top. Oh so good!

swaggy c

First time here. 8 oz. Filet was just OK. Nice atmosphere, but personally thought it was overrated for the price.

Lisa Kraayenbrink

We went out for our 28th anniversary dinner and we're very impressed. My husband really enjoyed the special 14 oz. bone in sirloin and I had the walleye which was also nicely prepared. We shared the agratin potatoes and finished with the baileys cake and a grasshopper ice cream drink, very yummy. The ambience with a real piano player was amazing and something rarely found these days. We also enjoyed people watching, there was high school prom and a wedding also taking place. It wasn't a nice night but their outdoor patio looked amazing. Oh, and they have a large parking lot so no issues with this either. We'll definitely go back and highly recommend.

Exceptional service, excellent food. Bailey's chocolate cake is a must have!

Every dish was delicious: from the salad to the pasta to the cake. We had hors d'oeurves of baby tomatoes+mozzarella+bread, kabob style, that was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of parking, too. The service was good and the room we were in was nice.

From steaks, seafood, appetizers, burgers and desserts, Jax Cafe is wonderful all around choice. Great selection of scotch, whiskey and bourbons too. Will be back soon. Average service from Jimmy.
