REVIEWS OF Blue Water Cafe IN Minnesota

Ronald Kowalczyk

Good food and good service, server was very accommodating in our request to split a meal. They were very busy but still reasonably fast.

Tom Smith

Foods great service tolerable old fashioned type of joint

David Forcey

Great little place with friendly service and some unique items on the menu. We will definitely return!

Brittany Milanowski

I love there food you have to try the Swedish pancakes.

jpwinche

A must visit when you come to Grand Marais MN. The Walleye shore lunch is very good. Burgers are juicy and staff is friendly. Just a small comment, they don't serve any spaghetti, which is not a big deal unless you are trying to carb load before the Lutsen 99'er.

Adam Schumann

Food is just bad. The staff were nice but it had an everything here came out of a freezer or plastic bag vibe.

Joyce Bolduan

Great food and very friendly staff Wish we had one in our area.

Lee Hunt

For a small cafe, the food was really good, service was good. Breakfast is served all day. Clean, comfortable place. Service was fast, and a decent size menu.

Miles Winslow

A good staple in Grand Marais. They serve breakfast all day, and I noticed their sign on the highway which alerted me to this. I noticed after i had left the BWCA. I've been coming to this restaurant for almost fifty years. Has it been around for that long? Bring the kids...

Patricia Giffen

Excellent food, super customer service if you like down home cooking this is the place for you! Must stop when we are in town.

garth mortensen

Best place for breakfast in amazing town. Relaxed atmosphere. Classic

Melody McArdle

Cannot say enough good things about this spot. Go! Try it! Youll love it!

Anne Finn

1/2 price burgers on Tuesdays! Can't go wrong!

Ali T

Ordinary cafe serving ordinary food but at premium tourist prices. The chili supreme tasted average, about as good as canned chili. The veggie burger tad below average. The raspberry pie very small. Still $33 tab. They are charging for being in Grand maries.

iamapexis

Good breakfast. Little bit nicer than south of the border with more hours.

Forest Wood

Good food, great service, fair prices.

Gene Kramer

Great food and good people!

Dessa Thomas

Great service and the food was good. It's got a breakfast diner feels so if your looking for a simple homemade breakfast it's great. They have gluten free options too

Lewis Wynn

Always been one of my favorite places to eat. Today the food was barely warm and some bites were cool. we got a 50% discount but still paying for food we didn't eat. Never got my $3 milk and had to ask to have that removed. Water glass went dry and no refills coming. Only two other tables with people in the place so it was basically just sorry cooking and sorry service.

Ann Maciej

If I could give zero stars, I would! Uncooked eggs and hashbrowns, English muffin like hockey puck, and all cold. Not to mention the rude waitress that did not seem to care! That's the worst! I can forgive bad food if the service is good....

Michael Nickisch

Friendly law student waitress. Great food

SESHmn

Very well served, very good atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Dow Fredrickson

Delicious food, better than fair pricing and great service. What more could you ask for!!

Lord Jupiter

Quaint and cozy, good food.

Moria Fredrickson

Great coffee. Cozy diner with friendly fast service.

OneSniperBoy 08

The service is great and the food is really good.

Having just finishing our 7 day BWCA wilderness canoe trip, my son and I stopped here on the way out of the Gunflint. We had eaten here before for lunch, which I remember being nothing special to write home about. Evidently breakfast is taken more seriously here! It was about 10am when we got there. We were relieved to see they serve breakfast all day! Having been in survival mode for the previous 7 days, we were looking forward to big flavors and good portions. Blue Water Cafe didn't disappoint. Very busy even at 10am with all tables full when we got there. My son spied 2 seats at the small counter where their registers are located, so we too them. Our waiter was a young Romanian guys (sorry for forgetting his name) and he got us drinks and menus right away. We have had other foreign staff serve us here so we were thinking they might be exchange students or something. At any rate, super nice kid! I ordered eggs Benedict with hash browns, while my son got french toast. Everything was great - taste, temperature, portion size. Waiter was great too! Great place for breakfast!

Daniel Weyandt

Takes credit cards and fills you up with some good grub after lots of boundary waters canoeing.

Terri Sanders

Best walleye

Mark T

Just walked in off the street and had the all you can eat Walleye. The not so good was that the soup that I opted to come with it was not so good and pie after was so-so. But, the Walleye was excellent and I would recommend it to others. Staff was friendly as well.

Chris Pearson

Classic little diner. Fresh backed good, great breakfasts. Really can't go wrong with this place.

Cindy Garretson

Good old comfort food. Good chili and broasted chicken.

Graham Riley

Best breakfast place in town!

Adam Brown

Always stop here when we're coming out of the woods from the Superior Hiking Trail. Good food, good coffee, and good service. :)

Kelsey Giles

Went here with my husband on our honeymoon and was pretty disappointed... My egg and ham scramble was quite overcooked and had eggshells in it... My husband ordered the trout breakfast which he enjoyed though! I thought it was quite good too.

Jennifer Peery

Great food and great service! Breakfast was amazing.

John Roach

Amazing food. Loved our server! Very busy though, a testament to the service.

Jane Whittlesey

Great breakfast!

Melissa Steele

We went for lunch...I'm guessing this is more of a breakfast place since there are great reviews for that! I ordered a hot turkey sandwich and it was very sad looking. It is literally just hot turkey between bread. We lovingly named it the "prison sandwich". To be fair, the server did say it was turkey and bread, but I thought it would at least be toasted and maybe have some lettuce or a pickle on the side... anything! My friend ordered broasted chicken and it was raw on the inside. Instead of getting her a new one, they just cooked that one longer more which resulted in it just being dry. It was also not taken off the bill and there was no discount, etc. which to me was ridiculous. My other friend's burger was way too well done to the point she barely ate any. The fries were good, but other than that...not a fan. Our server was not good. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she took a long time, wasn't friendly and didn't do anything to rectify the situation. I probably won't be back unless I'm in a bind.

Steve Peterson

Always stop in for breakfast when in Grand Marais. Love the Country Eggs Benedict! They also have a large variety of award winning burgers. Speedy friendly service. Highly recommended!

Dan B.

Good food at a decent price. Fries are great but portions of meat (I had fish wife had chicken) were small with more fries than I could eat. Staff was very attentive even during the packed house of the Fisherman's Picnic weekend.

Feng Jiao

We tried the eggs & steaks breakfast. Delicious and good value for your money!

Bridget Schumann

Blue Water Cafe rules. We had breakfast and it was one of those meals where even when you’re too full, you feel the need to finish every last delicious bite. I had the angler sunrise- fried walleye, hash browns, an egg, and pancakes and my boyfriend had the voyager omelette. We had to share because both looked and tasted so good. Prices are incredibly decent, coffee is good, and the service is very friendly and we felt taken care of. Seems like a local favorite and tourists are not taken advantage of by the prices or portions. I will definitely direct friends their way if they’re on the north shore!

Christina Zawerucha

Great food, generous portions, down to Earth atmosphere. Great choice

Jason Mills

Great food and service.

Leslee Hoyum

Had Swedish pancakes that were not thin, which is traditional, and they were rubbery, and the egg and sausage were cold. The waitress we had was very unfriendly. Not one smile.

Chris Dowers

A very busy place. A short wait. Breakfast was super. Good price

Joshua Conroy

Food was mediocre... My chicken fried steak was served without the gravy, the broasted chicken was served still completely raw and the by the time the properly cooked piece was bright to our table I was long finished with my food. Wait staff was not very attentive and we had to flag them down about the raw chicken because they never returned to our table to see how things were and/or if we needed another beverage or anything else.

Carol Copeland

Great food. Walleye basket was delicious. Lots of locals eating here.

David K

Grand Marais is a favorite town on the north shore to visit. While up there I frequent the cafe. In particular, I love the omelettes. The service is spotty, sometimes good, some not so good. But hey, what's perfect? I will continue to eat there.

Jessie church

Best cafe in Grand Marais. Breakfast was fantastic! A little spendy for a diner, but worth it.

Pops Severe

I have a all around great experience every time I stay here, plus the scenery

Benn Rankin

Excellent servers

Jim Good

Good food

Dayton Harper

Do not get anything with chicken or turkey. The chicken and turkey is out of cans and on the sandwiches it’s big chunks of chicken and it tastes horrible. Overpriced for what it is. Rude waitresses. There was fine metal strands in the chicken soup. Everything tasted horrible. DO NOT GO!!!!

Littelemissbubbles21

Had a lovely dinner with my family. Lovely food, excellent service and amazing pies!

Sydney Cariad

I’ve always loved the food here. Great pricing, good selection of food, homemade taste, scenic views! I got the walleye and it was delicious, my fiancée got the chicken sandwich. Even their fries are really good too!

MN Lonewolf

Great stop for breakfast

Sharon Bednarek

Good fish and chips, but not the best. Nice view of the water though!

Tim K

Excellent cafe in a wonderful small town. Walleye was delicious.

Pixartraveler 1

Attitude, runny under cooked egg whites, owner won’t see customers, all exchange students. Servers don’t understand anything other than what is written on menu. God help anyone who deviates from the menu. Called ahead to ask politely if they have egg whites they said “yes no problem.” Got there, server said no egg whites we are to busy only egg beaters. In a very thick accent. I don’t care where people are from as long as they are polite. There were no people waiting for a table. Several students standing around doing nothing. What the heck. More attitude. Good potential poorly executed & unhealthy serving raw eggs.asked if they could remake my food. Instead of redoing order they replated my food on clean plate and gave it back to me still raw & could care less. Server was very rude threw our check at us and after my wife paid for meal with CC server gave bill back to me instead just to piss us off. She said we had to pay for half of omelette and they weren’t going to remake it correctly. Same attitude as Seinfeld’s “Soup Nazi”. They really don’t care. We only paid for what was prepared correctly. Server must not understand she works for tips or just doesn’t give a $hi@.

Vicki Johnson

Food was great and the prices were not bad either

Carolyn Davis

Good food, service was okay but server didn't fill up coffee cups, had to keep asking her.

Greg Aase

Pancakes are above average. We went in May, right before the major tourist season. Service was a bit slow, but it was expected. The place is usually pretty full in the morning, so that indicates to me that the food meets or beats expectations.

Jon Pearson

Absolutely great place to eat. Will be back every time we are in Grand Marais.

Dan Quaas

Had breakfast there on a Monday morning. 10-15 minute wait, but food was worth it and staff was very efficient at cleaning tables and placing/serving their orders, so you can get in and out in a reasonable time. Good sized portions, great taste. One pancake on the side was almost a meal in itself. You will not leave here hungry! Wait staff was very pleasant. Diner next to us had the Swedish pancake, and that will need to be what I order next time.

Deanne McCullough

Loved the friendly staff. Wonderful food choices! Everything our party ordered was delicious! Good prices and good portions.

Lance Williams

I will never eat here or recommend to any one. My child ordered the mac and cheese the platw slipped off the other plate it was sitting on . they would not replace his meal unless we paid for it again. I have never been in a restuarant in my entire life that would do that to a child.

Roxann Slimmer

Awesome service. Yummy pie.

Corey Jacobs

Great cafe food. If that's what you're looking for it wont disappoint.

Rich Ward

Great place for breakfast. Go there hungry, you're going to get plenty to eat!

Roman Rojas

Their omelettes are delicious! Friendly place, love it.

L Kees

Will definitely go back if we came close to there again. Good was excellent as was the wait staff.

Mark Hipp

Had a good breakfast on a beautiful bay. The place was busy - always a good sign.

alan lalli

Friendly staff and good food. A nice family environment.

Richard Blatchley

Great food, family atmosphere. Friday nights "all you can eat" walleye, yum

MATTHEW LASSISE

Very good food they got here. Good breakfasts and lunches. Always leave satisfied. Best cafe in Grand Marias!

J burn

Great food, good service, prices a bit high.

Stephanie Steinbron

Good small town American fare. The kids menu was a nice selection of kid friendly food and good portions. The burgers we had were cooked well and decent flavor. I liked the option of poutine as a side.

Trae Wherland

This is a great place for some quick, quality food. A must stop when enjoying the beautiful sights in Grand Marais. The staff were friendly and the service was great!

Darlene Schmidt

Great meals.

Rikki Cahoon

I just came here to get dessert. The slice of pie was pretty expensive but worth it! I had raspberry rhubarb and it was delicious! But I also ordered bread pudding that was 4 bucks a serving and we could not even eat it! It had a weird chemical taste and was pretty flavorless otherwise. Couldn't even swallow one bite of it. As for the atmosphere, it's not very inviting but the staff were very nice and polite.

Linda Batchelor

I have only had breakfast there but it was delicious. The staff was friendly. The biscuits and gravy was excellent, and my husband loved his breakfast burrito.

Dave Wollin

Great Food. Great waitress. Menu is wonderful and unique. something for everyone. Bumbleberry pie was awesome!

J K

The soup was really good but we thought the pie was overrated and overpriced

Laura Muus

We always go there on Sundays for breakfast. Haven't been able to try anything else but I bet it is also good. Nice and cozy place. It is always crowded during the summer and winter holidays but the service is great and food comes fast. These guys do an excellent job!

David Capps

Tasty breakfast.

Ann SeigneurHarris

Excellent food & friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Michael Schmidt

Norwegian eggs were great! Salmon was done perfectly and was mild.

Cook County Chamber

An iconic gathering spot in Grand Marais, with breakfasts to die for.

Evelyn McKee

Friday night fish fry. Walleye was good but they ran out after we received one piece. Cheaper pollock was substituted but the price was not adjusted to reflect this. Wasn't worth the language barrier to argue this.

Ron Steffens

Great food and great service. Real hometown feel.

Barbara Riley

Been here a couple times over the years, most recent being Monday. Nothing special. Its definitely a "diner" type of vibe. Our chairs were all wet, surrounding tables still hadn't been bussed, stepped on food on the floor. Bathrooms were majorly disappointing. Food is fine. But I just feel the restaurant needs a good deep cleaning. I actually probably won't return to this restaurant given all the choices in Grand Marais and surrounding towns.

Thai Thao

Cute little cafe. Good choice for food if you are ever visiting.

Diane Kestner

Excellent lunch! Broiled Walleye with dinner salad and mashed potatoes= excellent! Meatloaf dinner with mashed potatoes, and bacon green bean=" one of the best meals I've had at a restaurant" per hubby Staff needs to upgrade their smiles and friendliness!

Patsy Aiken

Very fast and friendly service, basic American fare

Tom H

I usually try to have breakfast here during my stay in Grand Marais, typically before heading into the BWCAW. Good breakfast options served by usually cheerful staff. Mornings can be busy, so keep that in mind if you need a quick breakfast. Otherwise it's the perfect place for a leisurely meal in a quaint setting.

Vincent Coleman

Straight forward eatery. No frills menu, and good food

Rob Herion

We had breakfast here while in town and let me tell you, hearty it was! The service was exceptionally quick and attentive. Their kitchen must be managed by a staff of well experienced cooks because they were turning out delicious and well prepped meals to a full house almost as quickly as taking your order! If you are a breakfast person, you'll find both light and heavy choices with good coffee to start your day.

Michael Johnson

Too slow. Food is ok

Sam Dingmann

Very good food with an excellent wait time

Twin Citian

Lovely old fashioned coffee house, the type of place that you saw everywhere back in the 70s but nowadays are nearly extinct. Huge portions, great value, and pretty waitresses.

Tunde University of Minnesota

Wifey and I were touring Grand Marais, and hotel recommended Blue Water Cafe. We weren't disappointed - food was scrumptious, and our server was gracious & attentive. Met her again @ her 2nd job, @ the Gunflint Tavern. Thank you, Sevgi!

Johanna Hanssen

Great dinner. Service was efficient and food was served hot and fast. Delicious. Have to go back for pie!

Michelle Geiger

Not good food at all

Sandy Fitch

Good food very busy

Paii Jinchuta

We ordered meat loaf, hamburger and hot turkey sandwiches. They we delicious.

Marianne S

So so. An okay place for comfort food with an unbeatable location. Wait staff was nice.

Dan Curtis

Great place for a quick bite to eat.

Glenn Visger

Omelette was great. Pancakes were pre-made and room temperature. Butter didn't even melt a little bit.

Eliza Estrada

Over priced and the food wasn't great. I ordered cheesy scrambled eggs with sausage and gravy for $8.60. the scrambled eggs were cooked like an overcooked omelette with cheese put on top... Not really good. The serving sizes are decent though. However, we had gotten the walleye finger appetizer. They costed $9 and at that rate I expected a decent amount. We had gotten 4 fairly small fish sticks. The asthetics are nice and the atmosphere is light. Our waitress would never fill our water glasses when empty, we had to ask.

Tiffany James

A good lunch spot! I hear breakfast is amazing so I'll have to try that next time. The sandwich was good. The iced tea wasn't very good though. We went for breakfast the next day and it was so good!!! I ordered Just for fun and it was delicious!!! Pretty spot on lake superior.

Mo-Co Moore

Great little place. The biscuits and gravy are awesome. The servers are helpful and nice to visit with.

Ashley Kalenian

Came here for breakfast during the weekend of the art festival and it was packed! We were still able to get seated and served pretty fast. The food was delicious!

Dominic Franklin

Why are there so many cameras around the restaurant? I have never eaten at a restaurant where there was so much servalance on the customers. Answers?

Michael Lenardon

The walleye basket was poorly cooked. Fish tasted and looked like frozen fish sticks. It used to be a regular stop for us.

Pat Wells

Good food and servicem

Carolyn Bing

I had steak omelet, hash browns, cranberry wild rice toast & great coffee. All was great tasting and reasonably priced.

Joe Bjorklund

If you go here for eggs and bacon, you will be fine. The service is okay, the spot is busy, somehow they screwed up all three orders at our table. It's not a place I'd go out of my way for.

Sharon Hass

We ate breakfast here. It was delicious. Recommended for everyone in your family.

Liam Bearhart

Lovely small cafe, friendly service and great food.

Corey

Had the chicken, thigh was good, breast kinda raw, mashed potatoes and gravy ok, didn't complain, would just rather leave and not spend money there again.

Kevin Waters

Great place to get a fantastic meal before going into the BWCAW.

Sahvanna Best

Food was what you'd expect from a local diner and the staff was friendly enough. It didn't "wow" me but it was good experience. I enjoyed the trivia on the menus

Michael Dore

This is a no frills restaurant/diner billed as the place to meet in Grand Marais. The food is good, home cooked and really tasty. The meatballs are very good and there's a good selection of burgers, I chose the Behemoth and it was delicious. The staff are really friendly and helpful. If I am ever in Grand Marais again this is the place I would choose to eat.

Kyla Brunetti

Food was kind of bland. The fish had no seasoning on it besides some pepper. The fried walleye was okay. The salad was okay as well. Service was good.

gamtoosie afrika

Nice lunch stop.

Barbara Jones

Staff were awesome. Food was excellent. Prices were ok for a tourist town. Would highly recommend this cute little cafe.

Gregory Ross

John Schultz

Great place for breakfast

David Hedtke

Great place but a bit small! Usually a waiting line! Chicken to go is great!

Eric Lindstrom

Great food and awesome service! Highly recommend.

A B

Got the bohemouth, a big burger between grilled cheese was sooooo good and really reasonably priced definitely would recommend!

Francois Lamanque

We entered...but no one sat us. We were told to sit ourselves but the sign never said that or we would have. He acted as if he was annoyed. Then...we sat there for 5 minutes and no one helped us. My husband had to go get the lady. Her response was rude. Then...2 waiters were just sitting at the register and never moved. Food was ok. Wont be back.

Joe Fisher

Polite wait staff although they seamed a bit tired. We did come in after the lunch rush. We had the Walleye and it was good . The wait for water refills was very long. I have been here several times and recommend giving it a try.

Cindy Normington

Good food. Good prices. Good service

Chris Smith

The atmosphere is distinctly North shore and the location is just about perfect. The food, prices and service are all great! Perfexlct for the thrifty traveller or family vacation.

Theresa Farnum

Gabe Lanz

The staff and owners are fantastic! Blue Water is a MUST VISIT location in Grand Marais, to get a true home cooked meal and a dose of local culture.

Buffy K

Best breakfast in Grand Marais.

Brian Walsh

Good food, quick service

Mary L Hohlfeld

I ordered a BLT. You'd think no one could mess up a BLT. Well it was dry, bacon over cooked, tomatoes hard in the center, and it only had a small amount of mayo on one slice of over toasted bread. Tasteless. I thought of asking for more mayo to save the sandwich but couldn't get the attention of the waitress. Ate it as is and left.

Ben Browning

We had a great breakfast here. Food was good, our server paid the right amount of attention to us, and the food came out quickly which suited us perfectly.

Natalie Donat

****Edit: I was here about 20 minutes before this review was written. It wouldn't let me respond to the restaurants response.****** Been here multiple times, every year at least twice. Cheep and usually okay. Today I witnessed staff audibly laugh after getting a complaint from a customer about service and food, as soon as the customer walked out of the door. My waitress spoke so quietly that I couldn't understand her and had to keep saying "what". My burger tasted like old meat that had gone off, and my fries tasted like they'd been rolling around with fish. Woman next to me came in at the same time as me and didn't get her order taken until I got my food... I understand that this is more of a diner, though it clearly doesn't value customers. Won't be returning after hearing them laugh at someone who was unhappy with their order and how they were treated.

Roger Hornung

Good food and atmosphere. Friendly staff.

Bridget Flanery

Great prices and good food! Cozy place to grab a bite while in town!

Monica Potter

Friendly place near waterfront. We stopped to recharge my phone and was shown right to a convenient booth. Ordered the delicious and not too spicy chicken tortilla soup. Cinnamon peach pie completed our visit. Will go back soon!

Jarrett Braun

Fantastic breakfast. Had a country style Benedict myself. Three sausage patties smothered in sausage breakfast gravy, on two English muffins, with choice of eggs, and hash browns. Pictured are the remains of a traditional Benedict and a lot of thick pancakes. Wonderful comfort food and a friendly staff to match.

Jennifer Case

Friendly attentive sraff, clean and welcoming atmosphere. Ruben lacked enough dressing, but the wallet was perfectly fried. Worth a stop.

brian dean

The service was fine. I had the shepherd's pie. It was made with about 1 oz of meat and freezer burned frozen vegetables. Pretty bad.
