REVIEWS OF Blackbird IN Minnesota

Rachel Sporer

This place has good food and cocktails! The servers have been nice and attentive. They have good vegetarian options. We haven't had any issues getting a table for dinner with two people.

Scotty Soland

Really interesting setting, my friend loved the old TV set fish tank, the cafe itself was in a nice spot too. I got a cappuccino and frittata which were both excellent and tried the sweet potato biscuits and gravy that my friend got; I was very pleasantly surprised by it, it was really interesting combination of flavors that I greatly enjoyed! Overall a super experience that I'd recommend to anyone!

Sandya Ajith

Ordered their pork belly dish for dinner and boy was it fantastic. Great choice for dinner.

Devon Dodge

Delicious food and great service in a cute small town feeling cafe.

Todd Oberg

Great food seasonal menu with a very creative chef

Ellen Palmer

Great ambiance, but all else doesn't add up. Drinks are ALL small. Food is ordered separately, so if you want a full meal it's more expensive than the food is worth. Who wants to pay $14 for a hamburger and $3 to $9 more for fries or veg. It's not that good.

Nathan Miller

SAD! I have been a regular at this restaurant for over 5 years. Ownership must have changed a couple of months ago. The old chef has now left and food quality is now terrible. The new owners have cheapened it - compare things like the bacon, toast etc. before and after and you will see what I mean. Sad demise to what was by far my favorite weekend brunch spot. I would bet anyone a lot of money that this place is out of business within 6 months. Weekends used to be packed (my rule was if you didn't get there before 9 or 9:30 then I wouldn't go because it just got too busy). I went there today (which will be my last time ever) and there was no more than a dozen tables full when I left at almost 10am. To the new owner - YOU RUINED IT!!!

Jacob Cox

Awesome brunch! Lots of interesting options. Amazing coffee (seriously even just the basic cup was incredible).

Abbi Carnahan

The food was amazing, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. There’s a certain elegance that’s fantastically contrasts by the 1980s music playing in the background. I was also happy to see so many well taken care of live plants. It satisfied my want for tasty and affordable food that is paired with creative but not ostentatious decor!

Bryce Keola

The antler to table ratio in this establishment is weighted heavily in favor of deceased Cervinae. The breakfast burritos are delicious and accompanied by a variety of fresh fruit including grapes oranges and blueberries. The staff to table metric is excellent, and I was never left wanting for a coffee refill. I tend to drink coffee excessively. I wanted to go to Victor's but my compatriot didn't want to wait 40 minutes. Disappointed though I was to be denied yucca and mojo sauce, I was pleasantly surprised by the chorizo and guacamole at Blackbird Cafe. Would visit again.

lizzy hallas

Kitschy, and overly so. Service was slow. Food was pretty good though. Inventive with good flavor and good portions

Costas Stavrou

Nice relaxing place. The food is great! The help is very friendly.

Kairi Lassard

Excellent service and food

Ryan Bolduan

Blackbird seems to be slipping lately. The food is okay (under great but better than average). Still good for breakfast, the food never seems as good as I'm thinking it will be. Of particular note, last time we were there they decided to play free form jazz on their turntable. At a volume that was uncomfortable for normal conversation, but also loud enough to make me begin to question how much I can tolerate Jazz of that nature.

john mcguire

We love this place

Christian Ankrum

Great food, great vibe. Would def come back. Breakfast was unique and delicious.

Amy Schreiber

Swedish pancakes were delicious!! Interested decor.

Sarah Simpson

Food is amazing and savory. Great atmosphere!

Heather Trice

My boyfriend took me to mamas for my birthday. At first I was a little skeptical considering we had to wake up super early to drive 2 hrs just to get there and wait in line. I'll tell you this was THE BEST PART of our whole day in San Francisco! This restaurant is definitely worth the wait! The food was amazing! I haven't had breakfast that good ever! I will for sure be going back.

Pastor James Sickmeyer

Great food! Rustic look. Great service!

Ange Coffee

The gnocchi literally knocked my wife's wig back. A+ meal

GIM GeeIeM

Great breakfast/brunch and service. Small, popular restaurant, so item a wait.

Jairus Slagle

I went to Blackbird on a Sunday. I ordered the steak and eggs. The medium rare steak had great flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly (over-medium). The hash browns had great flavor, but maybe a little too salty for me. The toast was delicious. My friend ordered the Norske scrambler. She thought the salmon complimented the eggs nicely.

Lisa Mauri Thomas

Veggie eggs Benedict!!!

Spiritual Crypto

Love Blackbird! This has been one if my local favorites living in S. Minneapolis. An intimate and accessible location makes for a perfect catch up for coffee, DELICIOUS eggs Benedict, and if you are feeling adventurous The Big Bird with fries and Rosemary Aioli! Enjoy

Sarah Sadique

Exquisite dining. Beautifully plated meals match the thoughtfully chosen components of each dish. Don't skip the vegetable dishes (each is enough for two to share as a side). Serene and romantic dining area and an intimate bar. Great date night or a nice place for friends to catch up over a glass of wine.

Tarri Levine

Very tasty contemporary dishes. I had polenta with a sunny side-up egg; quite good!

Brennen Wonka

Seriously one of the best places you can go for breakfast in the twin cities! The food is ALWAYS five star, and they have healthy options to boot. If you live in the TC and haven't eaten here yet, you are missing out!

Tristan Nygaard

A perfect cafe! Staff is extremely kind and accommodating and atmosphere is calm! Love it!

Bryce Cruey

The food is always good here. Cool menu with some surprises on it.

Hannah Borreson

I love the small plates!! Great food and atmosphere!

Carlus Dingfelder

Never previously been for brunch, but it was a fantastic meal. Everything from the veal sweetbread benedict to the berry-stuffed pancakes. The house blend coffee is a great feel roast. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our baby; which puts us parents at ease.

Valerie Poyer

Terrible service from manager, Sunday brunch. Didn’t own up to her mistake, was rude and immature. Will not go back!

Matt Dowell

Excellent interior, feel, and energy. Good wine selection, no hard liquor. The savory popcorn is spectacular.

Pranav Maddula

Great food and fantastic vibe. I highly recommend the spaghetti.

Neil Ryan

Went here for brunch on New Year's Day and it was a great experience! Wait time was about an hour expected on a holiday. Atmosphere is really fun. Lots of options for a vegetarian like myself. They have great coffee and cool cocktails made with beer instead of liquor. I got the tofu scramble and upgraded the hash browns to cheesy which you definitely should do if you like cheese like I do. Definitely will be back.

Christine Boutros

Food is great and fresh. Service slow and inattentive. Not sure food is worth the wait.

Chris Wolfe

I like Blackbird. The Blue Jay Carpaccio is gamey and I'm kidding.....no Bluejays were harmed.

John Grotz

Closed at 3 pm, no update on the web and was still taking dinner reservations.

Susan Antby

Interesting menu items, great service. Chocolate cake with peanut butter was amazing!

Minnesota Mike Fishing

Mm?mmm mmm mmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm I love your food

Uta Moncur

Delicious vegetarian Eggs Benedict

Chanell Owens

Food was amazing!!! I wish there booths had cushions

Joseph McGie

Good food, rish flavor and great service.

Judy Ostrowski

Yum. These people really know how to sear things to perfection.

Zoe Edelman Brier

Oh my goodness, the food here is amazing. Somewhat inconsistent but always top notch. Order the Swedish pancakes. They're bomb diggity.

Lori Johnson

Great steak and eggs! Friendly service.

Melody Cooper

Exceptional food the artichoke toast scrummy! And housemade honeydew sorbet was wow and not too sweet. Service lovely. Highly recommend.

Emily Anderson

I had not had brunch here in a few years, so decided to try it out to determine whether to move it back into the regular rotation. It has slipped tremendously. The Big Bird came with masses of flavorless hash browns, a minimal amount of black beans, avocado that tasted and looked old, generic red salsa, and cheese that wasn't melted and looked like it came out of a bag. Also, our sever kept ignoring us, even though we had clearly been ready to leave for a while and had a restless toddler with us. When I finally made eye contact with him, he hurriedly rushed the check to us, and on the way out I heard him apologize profusely to the large party next to us that they had had to wait thirty seconds longer for their drinks because he had been checking us out. We won't be back.

charles garcia

Food was great, service was not. Wasn't awful service just did not match quality of food.

Oz Me

Interesting breakfast menu. The Oxtail and red flannel beet hash was uniquely different and quite tasty.

Lisa Mordan

Very cute place. Good food. I had the Swedish pancakes. Delicious!

Ashley Stockwell

Love this place. Great food, nice atmosphere, and my server, Quannani, is the best!! Excited about the new ownership and the directions they are going to take!

Ken Bakken

Doesn't only look good tastes better

Eric Jaw

Lobster Benedict needs a lobster taste

Ian Allen

One of my favorite brunch spots in the Twin Cities, I've been coming here for years. While it gets quite busy on the weekends, I love grabbing a spot at the bar (or coming before 10 it's usually easy to grab a table). I pretty much always get the huevos rancheros or oxtail hash, but on occasion they have really tasty breakfast specials too. Recently came for dinner for the first time and while the food was good, I wasn't totally blown away. Service also was a little hit or miss in the evening. I'll stick to coming for breakfast.

Leif Ueland

I was very surprised to find this place on a Veg- friendly website. We went in early on a Thursday eve with our two kids and had a terrible time. The server was rude to the kids and beyond rude when I asked about Vegan options. She literally refused to allow me to order a salad without the buttermilk dressing because she said "without it, the flavor profile would be compromised!" She served us with one arm behind her back like it was some uber pretentious fine dinning establishment and yet her service skills were off in every way possible... Oh and the food we were allowed to order was so overly salted we could barely eat it. If we did not have super hungry kids we would have walked out. Way to many great restaurants in that area to bother with such a place.

Trena Larson

The food was good but dont go on a hot day. No air flow and it's pretty uncomfortable when its muggy outside.

Karl Narveson

Beautiful room. Always something new on the menu, and it's always good.

vplaza73

Gene was fabulous and took great and speedy care of us as we told them I had a plane to catch! :)

Andy Whisney

Awesome brunch!

Amanda Brittain

Went for breakfast with a friend and it was absolutely delicious! The menu had a decent amount of options, was reasonably priced, decent portions, and the staff was really pleasant. Will definitely be coming back again.

Cory Teshera

Blackbird is our go-to breakfast spot - casual yet refined, sturdy classics (oxtail and red flannel hash; fluffy French toast topped generously with fruit & syrup) with local twists and quality ingredients. Friendly staff, attractive decor, good coffee - I really don't know what else I could want in a neighborhood cafe!

Brenda Balling

Very good. Got right in. Good friendly service. Good coffee, very good food, and they do have some bar service.

shane Burgess

The ambience is the best thing about Black bird. The price for the food didn't fool me into thinking it was better than it was. Some of the old classics have been taken off the menu leaving a smattering of options that don't set blackbird apart from the crowd.

Cori Eby

Fantastic food, reasonable prices, tasty chai.

Evan Vranian

Great place for a drink and a snack, alone or with a friend or for a quick work call

Robert Ilijason

A nice little place with great food! I forgot to snap pictures of the plates but the Brussels sprouts are delicious. Well worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

Jessica Arends

Lovely neighborhood restaurant with great service. Wine was great, fruity and everescent thanks for the recommendation of the gentleman server. One dish was a little underwhelming but seemed like a fluke as everything else was great and it was nothing that a little salt couldn’t fix. I enjoyed a warm and relaxed dinner with my husband which is ubtoppable. Thank you!

LaTrinka Owens

Ok, here's the thing. The service is usually awesome, like so great. But today, it sucks. My eggs were over cooked, I waited forever for a refill on coffee, my partners pancakes were undercooked. In fact he didn't check on us at all after we got our food. Just super disappointing. I'm gonna come again and hope this was a fluke.l

Haven't been here in a while, decided to come out for a post Valentine's brunch with ny fiance. Place has a Nostalgic appeal to us. The Atmosphere: Unfortunately this time of year the door is going to be open consistently allowing a steady chilling breeze through the small restaurant. The Meal: My fiance ordered the Ligonberry pancakes which she is fond of specially for the berries but was served blueberries instead, ordered a poached egg & recieved an egg over easy. I ordered the 8oz Steak & Eggs(poached). I asked for Medium Rare and was served Well Done, then when I requested another the server kindly told me that he would comp the meal but could only supply 3oz. The second time it came out Medium Rare but the poached eggs were overcooked & had egg shells in the eggs.. Overview: I used to enjoy coming here and while the service isn't bad it leaves a impression of improvement necessary. Maybe the staff has changed in the Kitchen and the standards have dropped off. Guess l might have to look for something else in the future, which is a shame. -Aleksander Siemaszko

First time visiting this establishment. Host seems to be a bit overwhelmed. Took a while to seat (20mins) with open tables in veiw. Ordered the Heavos Rancheros with over easy eggs. Eggs where over cooked with solid yokes. Food was great otherwise. The waiter was excellent and took care of us well. Will try again

Jim Darragh

Huge portions. The big Bird was tasty.

mandella shlutzva

I chose to dine here today with the intention of showing my niece a unique experience and introduce her to Minneapolis. With an Upbeat and refreshing atmosphere, this place made our day! The service was great, and the food was even better. We ordered several things to sample a little bit of everything. The stew was on point. Dining here would be appropriate for any occasion.

Nancy Schroepfer

I really like the red potato biscuits.

Andrew Branch

I'm not sure what happened, but it has gone severely downhill. Food and service has been inconsistent the last few visits, the one constant was great coffee but that changed this morning. We've given it many "second" chances but I think we are finally done. It's a shame.

Dana Johnson

This is probably my favorite little cafe. I love bringing friends here as their food is always amazing. Their standard menu is well-executed (I recommend the Colleen O'Brien for breakfast or brunch), but their specials are where they really shine; absolutely unique creations that are always on point, I have to try a special whenever I am there.

Raymond Robber

I had one of the best burgers I've ever had here! Very good

Liza Goncharova

Pretty good. Cool interior. Not a ton of vegetarian options hence the 4 stars.

Patrick O'Brien

I really enjoyed this place for breakfast. Nice, unique menu, very well prepared. Not outlandish but a little daring and a different twist to the old breakfast standards. Highly recommended.

Marina Suarez

Food was pretty great, server's hair was dirty and knotted

Greg Whitman

Oh man, this was great! This was my first time, and likely not my last. Very small, focused, menu that still has plenty of variety. We had a couple smaller plates to start (a salad and a soft shell crab) followed by short ribs and spaghetti. All of the food was prepared perfectly, and tasted awesome. Service was also very good. Long story short, you will not be disappointed if you come here.

Tom Racciatti

Nice place. Good food & pleasant atmosphere

Suresh

Great food and friendly service

Andrina Moe

We found this little place because of our original restaurant being closed. And I am so happy that it was because this place is perfect. The atmosphere is relaxing and the food was absolutely amazing! Everything was hand made and perfectly balanced. Flavors were fantastic! Our waitress was very friendly and sweet. Will be coming back again!

Max Palmer

Quite disappointed with my brunch experience! Have been wanting to go here for awhile. Wait time was double what we were told, despite many open tables; food was cold and poached eggs were overdone when it finally arrived. Unwelcoming staff as well. Wish it would’ve been a better time.

burcin ozel

I have yet to come for dinner but I have been many times for brunch. For me, this place has been one of the best weekday breakfast spots. My favorite thing on the menu is The Big Bird. It is basically a huevos rancheros with chorizo and avocado on top. The chorizo adds just a hint of spice. My husband had the Norske scrambler, scrambled eggs with salmon. Both were very generous portions. The coffee was decent and also plentiful. The service was attentive. All was excellent! Weekends afte always packed there but you can get most of the same stuff on a weekday during breakfast hours.

Cynthia Peterson

Cozy place, great food.

Ed C

Heard so many great things about this restaurant. So looked forward to check it out.. Swedish pancakes were fantastic. Lobster Benedict was not good. Scrambled eggs were dry. Hollandaise sauce too sparse, not zesty. The salad that came with the Benedict Was plain lettuce and radishes. No dressing. Blah.

Courtney Meyer

I've never really felt the need to write a review of a restaurant til now. My two best friends and I visited for our first time this past Sunday for brunch. It took a solid bit for the host to actually acknowledge we were waiting for a table, but that was honestly the least disappointing part of our visit. We waited probably 5 minutes just to get water once we were sat. I mean, lucky for them by that time we had already figured out what we wanted to eat and drink and could order everything all at once. I wish I remember our server's name, but it's still amazing to me she had maybe 3 small tables (including ours) to serve but still walked around with her head in the clouds, taking her dear sweet time. I kid you not, I saw her just chilling by the coffee maker looking at the ceiling doing literally nothing, while we just needed her attention to get our check. One of my friends decided that for a mere $3 more, she would get a bottomless mimosa. Let me just stop all you there, just go for one glass. You'll rarely see your server and it'll be hardly worth it. On the menu, it says a mimosa comes with your choice of juice: orange, grapefruit, peach, and mango. Ok, so we assumed for the $12 price, you could pick any juice. It said nowhere on the menu that any of the juices costed extra. It wasn't until we got our bills that we found out her mimosa was not $12, no..... it was $15. She drank like one mediocre mimosa, and paid $15 for it. Only then did the server tell us after the fact that peach and mango are a $3 upcharge (Um what hold up, $3 extra for peach or mango juice??). I was in view of their register and saw her look at the menu (probs realized that it doesn't say there's an upcharge) and tried to change it (I THINK). She tried for all of 30seconds without even getting a manager and just swiped the cards in the end. Moral of the story, get one mimosa. And either orange or grapefruit juice. Or maybe go somewhere else where the service is actually service, and not people walking around with their heads in the clouds. Definitely not going back.

Jillian Ollry

Best benedict's ever!

Sonja Freeman

There's usually a bit of a wait for brunch but it's well worth it! I love everything I've tried here. Blackbird is one of my favorite places to bring people for brunch - now I've got to get there for dinner sometime!

Linda Sullivan

Small portions, food was tasty. The app menu is a good deal and portions are right for sharing. Not really what I had expected, antlers on the wall, and I mean lots of antlers kinda creeped me out.

Chrissy Bell

FYI it’s currently closed for dinner (open during the day). Their website doesn’t say anything to that fact and you can still make a reservation; but I showed up tonight, to what I thought was a 7:30pm reservation, to find them closed with a note on the door stating they are only open during the day.

Muhammad Ahsan

It was great, I enjoyed the vibe of the restaurants and the staff was super friendly. Though I will say this there was nothing super special about this restaurant, while the atmosphere was enjoyable it also felt pretty generic, but the food was definitely a highlight and makes it worth going! I definitely recommend the Big Bird for anyone going.

Tia'Lana Hunter

The ambiance was delightful, and they served a wonderful “Meil” beverage (coffee, steamed milk, honey and cinnamon.) However the service seemed rushed. The server was bothered or irritated because food had to be sent back due to unmelted cheese, we had to continuously ask for things, and take the salt shakers from another table. The water left a dry feeling in my mouth. The food was not what was expected. I had the Norske Scrambler which is salmon scrambled eggs, with dill and sour cream with a side of hash browns, and toast. The homemade strawberry jelly was delicious but the toast was kind of burnt. My partner had the big bird which was two eggs scrambled, crispy tortilla, cheesy hash browns(NOT CHEESY NOR MELTED)Gallo pinto, smoky salsa, and sour cream. It was bland and was not as hot. The location was unwilling to accommodate for a swap of meat without up charging. They charged $4.00 extra for chicken to be added, instead of pork! Due to religion preferences that should be an option though religion wasn’t the case here that is UNACCEPTABLE . There is a sign on the bottom of the menu that says “ out of respect for all hungry guests waiting for a table, please limit your time with us to 90 min” now there was no wait, and I still felt rushed and I have not been here for 90 min.

John Weirick

Pleasant environment and service. Food was hearty and tasty, if a smidge on the salty side. Enjoyed the Swedish pancakes with berries and ricotta, the savory sweet potato biscuits and gravy, and the veal Benedict. Short wait for Saturday brunch.

Tom Kachelmacher

Wanted to like it, good vibe in restaurant but had very slow service and food that had been sitting on the line for awhile before reaching our table.

Nell Kaas

food was amazing, service friendly and fast. will be back.

Morgan Hoxsie

Great spot for brunch. There was no wait when we went on Saturday at 11 for a table of 3 people. Service was great and the food was good. Relax atmosphere.

Chance Peterson

I ordered corned beef hash with eggs "on the side" but much to my dismay I was presented with 2 runny chicken fetus' atop my underwhelming hash. I must say on a normal day I could overlook this but seeing as the eggs were undercooked and my hash was all but raw I asked for it to be re-made. This resulted in excuses from the staff and chef which prompted me to leave hungry and unsatisfied

Kelly McCrimmon

Blackbird serves up inventive flavors that pack a punch! The eclectic style offers a homey feel and is perfect for a casual dinner.

Glenn Oslin

This has been my favorite breakfast place for years. They recently changed up some stuff on the menu and the service has gotten progressively slower and inattentive. Sweet potato biscuits and gravy used to be AMAZING! Now, it's a decent breakfast but the changes aren't worth the price tag. Time to find a new fav

Josh Simenstad

Fabulous food and service.

Dot Ryan

Sad visit. After a long hiatus, we looked forward to eating at Blackbird last night. Disappointing. Out of the #1 item on the menu, chicken empenadas?! On a Friday night? Wait staff was short staffed - no hostess? Large, loud, drunk, cursing group at bar did not contribute to the atmosphere. Food was just average esp compared with the many other options now available. This used to be a cozy, refined, welcoming place. Not so much now.

Jon Schulte

Awesome Food. I had the breakfast burrito and it was spot on. Full of flavor. And the bottomless mimosas sure kicked Saturday off right.

Todd Edson

A nice local eatery with good food.

Katherine Fines

I ordered a frittata with spinach, broccoli, and mushrooms. Delicious! It was chock full of veggies and wonderfully hot when it arrived. Very tasty. My companion ordered the pancakes with berry compote and seemed to enjoy them. He said the compote was even better than fresh berries would have been. The waitress was kind and helpful and attentive. They were very busy, but she took the time to answer questions and offer suggestions without seeming rushed. The main downside of this restaurant is that the room is pretty loud. We were able to talk, but a quieter space would be an improvement. Maybe next time I will aim for a less busy time of day!

Sara Frailich

This place is adorable, has delicious and delectable scratch food and the drinks are unique and thoughtful. I love wine and dinner and dessert and this hit the spot in all three!!

Stephen Lucas

Always a pleasure

Carson Dallum

Really good food, drinks and atmosphere.

Leo Ward

Oxtail was tasty; bland tofu scramble was not a scramble at all. Kind service, decent patio for people watching.

Michelle Garber

I've had great food at Blackbird in the past but this visit was very disappointing. The menu seems much smaller and there is barely anything for vegetarians. Just a few side dishes and salads, with no protein. There is exactly one vegetarian entree, which was a pasta dish that comes with a raw egg on top, which concerned me. The server assured me that when you stir the egg into the pasta it cooks the egg to a safe temperature. Well, the pasta arrived barely warm, much less hot, so that was useless. Not much flavor either. I asked about modifying other entrees to leave the meat off but the server discouraged this as the dishes wouldn't have flavor without the meat. I asked about a tofu pasta dish I'd had there several times and she said that was only available for lunch. The current lack of vegetarian options was frustrating, and the server was nice but not very helpful. We did not enjoy our drinks either, unfortunately. Blackbird Cafe used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but I will not be going back. Plenty of other places that don't snub vegetarians.

Ameet Kamath

Great drinks.

Lee Kafkas

Blackbird always impresses me with their food. Good creative variety of dishes. Attention to the little things and the basics like the simple eggs and toast breakfast. Great comfy neighborhood spot. Try anything. I bet it'll be good.

justin lines

I've had it twice. First time it was good with exactly what I wanted. Today my gf and I ordered four different plates and each plate was very small since last time. We ordered a ham eggs Benedict and they had 1 shave of ham shared between the two English muffin halves. Also, my ox tail hash had only half a vertebrate of ox tail!

Arthur Sifuentes

Landed in Minneapolis from Houston and decided to try Blackbirds out. Food and service was NOT worth the wait. Cappuccino was cold, the hash was cold with daughters bacon and hash browns burnt and cold. Waitress was nowhere to be found, nor did she come by to ask if wverything was ok. Waste of time and money!

Barbara G

Blackbird is a great little neighborhood spot, a bit more upscale and pricey than the surrounding restaurants. Seasoning and quality on the food is always very good. Better for dates or friends than just dropping in alone, good happy hour menu. Service is a little slow but that's because they're mostly packed all the time, staff are good about checking in with you and keeping you hydrated. The kitchen does no substitutions. They did change their bahm mi bread from baguette to some soft crustless bread recently too.

Audrey Clark

Always great food. I appreciate that there are several vegetarian options and a few vegan ones as well. But know that you can not make substitutions.

Peter Haas

My favorite place to eat a basic breakfast. Lots of other great food too. They play classic albums on vinyl. Great hipster vibe. Clean and cool.

Terra J

Favorite for solo or date lunch, portion size is perfect and staff is always welcoming and helpful.

ashley Kastner

I think someone got high and mixed a bunch of you know what together thinking it was good at the time. Too many flavors that do not go together. My biscuits were burnt. I would not have served that at my house! Very disappointing. I will not be returning. Service was decent.

mark cady

This is a great place. Really good great

Homer Lykan

This place used to be so much better. The menu used to be creative and innovative (especially the happy hour menu - the duck rolls were the main reason I went here) but now it’s kind of gone downhill. The food is okay, but it’s gotten bland and boring, trying too hard to emulate trendy restaurants and failing. I don’t know if it’s that the kitchen staff has changed, or if the owner/manager has changed, or what, but now Blackbird is just disappointing. I visited recently and even the beverages were noticeably worse; I ordered an Arnold Palmer, which I used to enjoy getting here, but it tasted like it had come from a bottle or a can instead of made fresh like (I think) it used to be. Also, a woman (waitstaff? Kitchen staff?) was continually shrieking orders and tips to the cooks, well over the volume of the music. Not something I’d normally put in a review, but it was pretty annoying. I dunno. I used to love it here, but I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.

Chris Lekander

Really enjoyed the meal - tasted like home cooking. Also had really attentive great service.

Rose Carlson

A great lunch spot, with breakfast served through the lunch hours. Excellent for the indecisive. I had the swedish pancakes, which were adequate, the bacon was perfect and my companions red curry with fried tofu was amazing. Inventive cocktails and short but well curated beer and wine lists.

Matthew Gustafson

Tasty food, good atmosphere. The banh mi was very tasty.

Terri Rutherford

Nice mid/upscale neighborhood addition. Great breakfast in particular. Consistantly well presented food.

Anna Schmitt

I called in this morning to confirm that they had dishes prepared separately from the shellfish dishes as we have two severe shellfish allergies, but have been wanting to try this place for a long time. The hostess told me they have crab but not shellfish - after letting her know crab is shellfish I asked her to consult with the kitchen. Several places do a good job to make sure prep tools and the ingredients are kept separate, she refused to check and told me it was not a good idea to go. Not to say this place is not shellfish allergy friendly just not good service.

Johanna Kimura

Came here with a friend during our weekend trip to Minneapolis. The food was fantastic. I had the Big Bird and the staff was kind enough to let me substitute toast instead of the crispy tortilla it normally comes with. The flavors were fantastic, there was plenty of chorizo in the dish and yet the dish wasn’t too oily. On a Sunday morning it was busy but we were able to get a table without problem. They do also take reservations but only for larger parties. The parking lot was quite small with only a few available spots but there was ample street parking.

Karmela Sunell

Restaurant was obviously sold within the last few months. Wait staff completely turned over. New waiters are not knowledgeable and act entitled. Recipes were replicated from the old Blackbird, but aren’t executed well and lack flavor. Additionally, food comes out cold (old Blackbird always had extremely prompt service and we often sat at the bar and watched food come out after only sitting under the heater for 30 seconds or less). I am a long-time regular and will not be returning after giving the new Blackbird two chances.

Steve Druley

Simply charming.

Doug Rohde

Blackbird is my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis. They really get how to serve great food and wine with great service (perfect combo of prompt, skillful, and chill). They've gone ever so slightly up market lately but still feel like my neighborhood joint.

Bryan Cooper

Food was very good, and waitstaff were both quick and accommodating. I'll be back.

I've been to Blackbird for dinner several times, including recently, and it has consistently been a great experience. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the service was great. Chill, interesting, enjoyable atmosphere. One of my favorite neighborhood restaurants.

Slightly higher prices. Way higher food and service. Nuff said.

Peter Farley

A bit crowded and the food portions are small for the price. A good spot to visit once in a while.

AMY J ACHENBACH

Not good. Used to be. I don't get what happened.

Craig Kristof

Wonderful food!!! Try the hot Italian; you won’t be disappointed.

Mister Jon

Excellent quality food. Good service. Prices for dishes are reasonable. Prices are slightly high if you order a side (minus 1 star).

Great food

New favorite brunch spot. Everything is so fresh, local and creative. I absolutely love this place. The only thing that could make it better is if the order champagne button in the bathroom actually worked!

I've had the Oxtail Hash and the Sweet Potato Biscuits and Gravy, both have been fantastic and very filling for the day! The hash definitely could have used a little more oxtail but the overall taste was delicious. The sweet potato biscuits are out of the this world. There's usually a bit of a wait here but it's worth it. The decorations are also very unique with antlers and mirrors

They have a lovely happy-hour, unique in that it's also on Saturday. Their tap list is short, but thoughtful and constantly rotating (I've had it change mid-meal on multiple occasions) - it's always a nice mix of local and interesting non-local brews. Even when the place is full, the noise level doesn't pass the point where conversation is difficult.

Fantastic sandwiches, friendly service, decent atmosphere lots of seating. Came at peak time and were seated in 5 minutes. I got the ham and cheese with salad, partner got the turkey and brie with fries. Ham was the better of the two, fries were delicious (loved their garlic/chicken salt). Salad was fresh. Service was friendly but a bit slow, though the place was packed. Our seat at the back near the kitchen wasn't great, it was dark and a bit cold. The shabby 1800s decore didn't work for me. Overall, a decent lunch spot.

We came here based on a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Decor and ambiance was nice, food was average at best. I ordered the pork belly and found it sub-par nor did I care for the pistachios in the dish. Portions were very small and flavor was average at best. Coming from out of town, I would not recommend this place if you have some places in mind. The star rating I read on google was highly overrated and for what I received and way overpriced. I’ve had better food at Cheesecake Factory. Burgers were okay and mushrooms in the spaghetti were so chewy. My 11 year old’s grilled cheese looked the best of all our dishes. Really wanted to like this place and sad to say it wasn’t great as I expected for almost $90.

Not a bad chow shop. Everything was delicious. Just a heads up, the sweet potato biscuits and gravy, while good, is just a little spicy. Also, flapjacks were amazing.

This is the best place for breakfast in Minneapolis. Great food great wait staff

Mike Ricker

Great food, but overpriced for what you get!

Matt Gee

Idk why Google says I went there.. 5 STARS

A very cool atmosphere with friendly staff. The food was fast to the table and very well made. Our whole table left with a full stomach.

Lovely, not too formal, cozy, and with great food. I've been coming here for a long time and it's a wonderful spot with just enough vegetarian options to keep me interested. Always friendly and great service, too.

Jennifer Andrews

Went here for brunch for the first time yesterday and was very disappointed. Service was pretty choppy and multiple items were out in the kitchen. When the food came out two of the orders were wrong. When the frittata was sent back it came out wrong again. Giving two stars instead of one because they gave us a free apple fritter and the food itself was decent.

Wonderful breakfasts with local-sourced products

Shane Oborn

Great experience here, food was delicious and had a very friendly and helpful server. You won't be disappointed choosing to stop in here.

Andrew Ladner

Great pancakes and coffee!

Debra Russell

Salmon was fantastic! Served with incredibly fresh greens. Highly recommend.

Paul Wetzel

Absolutely excellent! Had empanadas, Brussels sprouts, salmon and the lightest gnocchi I’ve ever had. Yum
