This Coffee Shop is included in the category of Chocolate shop.
I had the most amazing chocolate mousse cake here. It has the right texture, right level sweetness and right amount. With no after taste at all. Just perfect! Though wish they had more pastry options which were non-alcoholic
Amazing single origin hot chocolate with very unique flavor profiles. It's hot chocolate sized but more like a sipping chocolate, so you can take some home and enjoy with a spoon the next day.
The best chocolate in New England
It's a beautiful chocolate shop. A nice place to rest and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
It's like Santa's Workshop, but for chocolate. It's amazing. Always bring friends here from out of town for a tasty snack. The drinking chocolate is absolutely divine, but be careful! Even a small is quite rich and filling. Iced drinking chocolate in the spring/summer is so good. Large array of cakes and pastries to try, even a few gluten free options if that's needed.
Omg. The hot chocolate. The hot chocolate. The hoooot chocolate. It was sooooo goooood!!! The best dark hot chocolate i've had in my life. Rich and creamy. Almost but not quite like molten chocolate. I could write a 10 page vignette on how much i loved it. It was one of their limited edition hot chocolates, and the price was higher than i expected, but 100% worth it.
Really great chocolate drinks and super friendly staff. I somehow always get waited on by the same gentleman with a wonderful accent and he's great. Everyone else I've run into here too. Can vouch for the chocolate mice, penguins, and elephants. The chocolate mix is worth it just for the whisk alone. You also CAN get in here at a non-crowded time to find a seat but it's not guaranteed.
Place looks very nice but the pastries lack in flavor. Chocolate covered nuts tastes bland. I expected more.
Was in need of something sweet and ended up here! We got the 21 piece sampler box which was absolutely perfect, and then a bar each of milk and dark chocolate. Pricey, but really good quality chocolate.
Wonderful place, amazing service !
The best hot chocolate I have ever had!!!
Legendary.
So good.
One of the best romantic coffee/chocolate restaurant near Trinity Church. Highly recommended for a Sunday afternoon tea time.
I love it in winter only
Cute little shop. Great coffee! Delicious cheesecake! Buy a chocolate mouse!
Rich and not too sweet chocolate
Perfect as always. Such a pleasure
Wonderful hot chocolate dribk, indeed one of the tastiest I have ever drink. Cute chocolate creations too... Definitely worth the visit.
Amazing Hot Chocolate. Best I have ever had. Such friendly staff at this location. Highly recommend.
The only reason why I give them 4 stars is because they have no WIFI. Such a beautiful coffee shop. They have some of the finest drinking Ecuadorian chocolate in Boston. Cozy ambience, gentle people. The music selection is pretty classical and instrumental. Great to have a conversation.
Ordered the dark hot chocolate (with almond milk) but failed to take other reviewers' advice: I ordered the large. The large cup was "cuter" for taking photos and the small seemed, well, small. Really I was being gluttonous. I should have gotten the small. The hot chocolate was incredible. It was like drinking melted chocolate.... which meant it was very heavy/filling. Either share a large or order a small... seriously. Unfortunately I don't believe the iced dark chocolate my husband ordered was made with almond milk as requested. He started feeling sick after drinking about a quarter of his drink. Initially I assumed it was just because we had a long day and he may have just "overdone it." We requested a to go cup for his drink, which I drank later; I ended up getting sick as well. Had it not been for that, I would give this place 5 stars. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in town. But I'll get a small, because there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
Amazing chocolate. The service at the Newbury store was a little rude. I never had a problem with the Harvard square store.
Best hot chocolate in Boston, no question about it!!!
Three words: Iced. Drinking. Chocolate. Listen y'all northerners don't need this. It's like 4 degrees in Boston. Keep your hot chocolate. I'm taking the iced drinking chocolate idea home with me where the summers are 90+ and 60%humidity for 5 months straight. Oh and the store is nice and staff super friendly. Like amazingly friendly. Ten stars.
Chocolate SO good!! And the Service was impeccable! Thank you.
Slightly expensive but great hot chocolate! Super thick and smooth. Tip: get the DARK hot chocolate if you're a chocolate lover. You won't be disappointed!
The cake slices and chocolates were awesome! The prices were reasonable as well and the atmosphere was really cool.
My most favorite place for all things chocolate, espresso and baked goodies. Comfortable seating area, quaint music, beautiful decor. I love this shop!
Hot chocolate is a must
First of all uncomfortable seating clearly designed to keep you astray. Apart from that both the dark and white hot chocolates are the best in Boston and in my experience New England. The chocolate selection is wide and all taste delicious
Amazing hot chocolate. Hard to get a seat but worth the wait
Dark chocolate bar was great. The drinking chocolate is too thick for my taste. I guess I'm just used to swiss miss type hot chocolate. They had some really cute shapes, eg eggs, nests, mice, etc.
Really great drinking chocolate! We ordered several apiece and compared notes.
You haven't really experienced hot chocolate unless you go to this place
Great place to stop in and get some pastries and coffee. Also recommend picking up their mouse and penguin chocolate figures for gifts!
Great!
Very helpful associates; prompt and friendly service
Chocolate is great!
The cashier ( black hair) was super rude. He took the bill I paid with as if it was the dirtiest thing on Earth. The food is fine, but after feeling awfully discriminated, the whole experience was ruined. I visited this place at 9:30 p.m. June 1st.
Fabulous! Try the iced hot chocolate, so yummy!
Nice hot chocolate
I ordered the Ice Milk Chocolate and I loved it! It is certainly the best chocolate place in town. Not to mention, the customer service is exceptional! I am a fan of this place and I will always come back! Highly recommended!
I LOVE THIS PLACE!
I had the dark hot cocoa and the mocha cake. It was deliciously rich! They have so many different kinds of chocolate. Recommend a stop here!
I have been ordering cute little chocolate mice, chocolate cigars and hot chocolate mix online from L. A. Burdick's for the past 15 years. It was such a treat to finally make it to one of the retail stores while on holiday in Boston. We had the dark hot chocolate which was incredible and a chocolate chip cookie that was melt in your mouth delicious. The best hot chocolate you'll ever have anywhere. If you're a lover of great European style chocolate and pastries be sure to stop by Burdick's!
The chocolate, of course, and the ambience! The tea is nice with the sweets.
Great atmosphere and food/drinks. The hot chocolate is amazing, I had the dark and my friend had the mocha. Great desert choices as well, both chocolate and non chocolate options
Staff was super nice and patient even with a large order of 20 hot chocolates and managed to not mess up a single one. The drinks are super rich yet still thin enough to drink. The dark chocolate one, which I got, almost reminds me of chocolate covered nibs but without the texture. Definitely looking forward to coming back!
The best place ever to get an hot chocolate!! So delicious! There are also several gluten free options, like French macarons, highly recommended! It's a little bit cold inside but really worth it!
Your search is over...The very best chocolate shop in Boston. Hands down. Definitely try their hot chocolate (or the cold version). They are both amazing!
Their hot chocolate is amazing! Their pastries look really nice and fancy, but somehow I found myself not too interested in most of them. It's possible that it's just my pickiness but I for example would have liked a classic croissant or pain au chocolate, which it didn't seem they had.
Try their Iced Sipping Chocolate. Delicious!
We made a stop here on a hot August afternoon and enjoyed amazing iced mochas and an assortment of scrumptious pastries. Croissant, Harvard Square, and Chocolate Raspberry cake we’re equally satisfying and the counsel from the staff made choosing from available treats a breeze. Definitely make a stop at L.A. Burdick!
I came in searching for some dark chocolate, preferably around 90%-95% cacao. Unfortunately the highest percentage I found was about 76%. However what I did find, was a lovely selection, divided by country of origin, with nice descriptions. I chose the Granada dark chocolate bar, with which I got an espresso. The pairing was not great (my fault), the chocolate overpowered the espresso. So I had the drink first, and a bite or two of the chocolate after, turned out fantastic. Really loved the place.
I see the rave reviews here and I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong version of the hot chocolate! It's the typical setting - cold Boston day, you want to warm up. Why not a delicious creamy hot chocolate? L.A. Burdick, here we come. When we got there, it looked like everyone had the same idea as us. It was full. Thankfully, we scored a table in a few minutes. There are only 6-7 tables, not meant for large groups. To order, you have to go up to the counter. Once you order, they give you a number and the server brings the food to your table. We ordered a small dark hot chocolate and a classic gugelhupf for dessert. I asked if they serve it with marshmallows, but they don't. Oh well. It took only a few minutes for our order to be ready. The hot chocolate was very disappointing, honestly. It had a sour-ish taste and wasn't sweet at all. I wondered for a minute if I should be adding sugar to it but it's hot chocolate! I couldn't finish mine. On the other hand, the gugelhupf,a European style pastry, was delicious. It had hints of lemon and vanilla. The inside was soft while the outside had a soft crunch to it. It came with a side of whipped cream which was the perfect amount of sweet. I went there solely for hot chocolate but I wouldn't order that again. However, the dessert was a hit!
Fantastic products, friendly staff
The best hot chocolate in Boston!
Very very cute place in Boston to go for a cup of really great hot chocolate.
Only had a Milk hot chocolate. But what a drink ! It's very good, but be warn, it's quite rich, so I suggest the small. You will have plenty.
These chocolates are amazing! I wish they could have a shop in Texas so I could buy some every week since I love chocolate!
Sales clerk came off as a little snobby
Nice little shop plenty to choose from award winning chocolate. Courteous an polite staff
Amazing hot chocolate...but everyone already knows this!
Best hot choc. We came back for more and bought a pack to make at home
Easily the best hot chocolate I have ever had.
Yumminess!
Excellent dessert. Good coffee. Delicious dark chocolate. All sorts of tempting things to buy, including a thousand dollar suitcase full of chocolate.
I didn't think that a hot chocolate could be this legendary.
Great selection of chocolate and other goods. Raw cacoa nibs !
One of the best hot chocolate I have ever had. Dark chocolate recommended
The milk and white hot chocolates are amazing. A must try if around this area. They have great desserts too.
This could have been a nice stop during our cold week-end in Boston, however, we found the staff very rude (maybe because we were foreigners and the lady had to focus to get our accent), was bored about answering our questions on the menu, did mistake in the order and gave us attitude when we notified it. It really affected the whole experience. F&B are quite good but a bit overpriced.
A chocoholic's heaven realized. It maybe on the pricey side but you're definitely paying for the quality and ambience.
Love the chocolate mice!
On a cold winter’s night this is the perfect stop for warming up. Gold and pink striped candy shop walls meld with the fragrant aroma of chocolate. They have milk, dark, and white hot chocolates available, and dark reaches into the depths of the cocoa. I tried the single source origin from Ecuador, and it was so dark and rich I had to sip it gently despite the fact it could have been warmer. The spice lingered on the palette. Mint hot milk chocolate proved to be a lovely, milder, and much hotter choice. Their dessert tray tempts as well as their chocolates.
I discovered a whole new realm of chocolate. Get a milk hot chocolate and a Harvard square. You will not be disappointed
Try the white hot chocolate. It's one of the most tastiest and delicious hot chocolate I have tried in entire Boston. Worth the price.
Good stuff!! Enjoyed everything we tried
Amazing!! Have to try their Spicy dark hot chocolate
Oh my god. Best chocolates ever. And best hot coco ever. Pricey but def worth it.
Best hot chocolate ever. The white one was amazing! Get smalls super rich stuff! :D
I keep going there for hazelnut orange cake. It is very tasty. However, it can be a bit difficult to find a place to sit since the store is small and there are only 5-6 very small tables. Their hot (melted) chocolate drink is great but quite heavy. You will need a glass of water afterwards.
The white hot chocolate was a 10/10 for sure. It was like drinking melted chocolate!!
An amazing hot chocolate! If you are looking for a place to taste the rich flavor of chocolate this is the best place in Boston! Must visit!!
Delicious chocolate raspberry cake and anything chocolate! Coffee served in real cups with silverware. Polite staff! Seating limited but fun place to bring out of town guests. Also, a place in Harvard Square.
I've lived in Boston for a long time and only wish I had visited sooner. This is a delightful little cafe with some of the most delicious hot chocolate I've ever had. The ambiance is like a Parisian cafe. A great place to catch up with a friend or read the paper. You can also get your order to go if you have to be on your way. I highly recommend trying anything here!
Their Hot Chocolate is the best!
Perfect
Had a great dark hot chocolate drink here. Yummy, didn't taste too sweet and very chocolaty. Nice place to sit for a bit while walking down Newbury street.
I love love the atmosphere of this place! It’s so cozy and relaxing. One of the staff (unfortunately I don’t know his name) was polite and welcoming. The macrons are delicious. I tried the hot milk chocolate, it was too sweet for me.
Milk chocolate in snow is supercool.
Delicious, elegant, hand made high quality chocolates. My favorite spot when walking around the town. Good gifts. Great desserts and hot chocolate
I've only ever bought white chocolate bars and dark chocolate with cacao nibs here and they're amazing. Service is always friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
The atmosphere is like walking into a chocolate shop in Paris, it is warm and cosy on a chilly day and the staff is very friendly. The have a wide selection of chocolates and pastries and the iced hot chocolate is some of the best I have ever tasted, not too sweet nor to bitter depending on which one you get they have dark, milk and white chocate. A must try.
Excellent chocolate mousse cake and great service. I went at an off-peak time and was treated like royalty -- even though being on my bike I didn't have cash for the "tip jar" and they couldn't put a tip on ApplePay.
Staff was very rude
It's a nice place, strong coffee. They serve the pastry cold, i don't like that :( no choice to warm it up.
Their teas are not at all worth the price. The chocolate might be good
Cute little chocolate spot. Very thick and rich hot chocolate❤️
The best hot chocolate EVER!!!!!!!
The Dark Burdick mocha mmmm yum
Great experience. Amazing for gifts!
Pricey, but great quality
Right up there among the best hot chocolate places in Boston.
Super cute cafe, friendly staff & delicious (and rich!) food & drink
Best hot chocolate ever. Love their chocolate mice.
Chocolate is second to none! The girl at the cashier however...she looked like she’d rather be anywhere than there. Definitely provide better customer service.
Probably some of the most delicious and decadent hot chocolate I have tasted. The dark hot chocolate is the best!
The coffee wasn't good :(
Amazing hot chocolate, but they really need more seating for how busy they are.
The hot chocolate is smooth and delicious. Tastes like melted chocolate. The most amazing hot chocolate I have ever had. BUT The service is terrible!! The staff is rude!
Had the demi (kind of a shot- around 40-50 ml I guess) and small hot milk chocolate. Its literally the best hot chocolate I have tried and would seriously recommend people to try it out. They have hot 'Dark' chocolate and hot 'white' chocolate for people with varying chocolate preferences. Cute little place with nice ambience at different locations in Boston. I have tried the one near Newburry road and one near the Harvard/MIT campus. Both were equally good.
I judged this place a little too hard before ever stepping food inside. I ended up having a slice of humble pie with my hot cocoa. I’d walk by it most days and say, “It can’t be like the great chocolate makers of [city I used to live in].”
Great looking chocolates and hot chocolate. Can't wait to try them :-) not cheap.
The cutest place, excellent for dates and friends. Note they DON'T have outlets or wifi for working. Also seating is very limited.
This is the second Burdick's location in Boston, after Harvard Square. It is larger than the first, with more seating, and is more nicely appointed. Excellent selection of chocolate.
Not only does this fantastic place have the most rich and creamy hot chocolate I've ever tasted, the manager is one of the most kind and considerate men. We walked several blocks in a snow storm and even though they had already closed to send their employees safely on their way. The manager himself made us hot chocolate while we patiently waited. Thank you so much!
BEST CHOCOLATE EVER
Best hot chocolate ever, just loved this place!
Charming, delicious, indulgent, decadent. This adorable little cottage sitting in the heart of Back Bay sells some of the very best single origin chocolate in Boston. Don't go here expecting bargains. Go here expecting a visual and gustatory feast bordering on sensual. Be sure and try their hot chocolates in the winter, a particular favorite is the half white/half dark hot chocolate. Rich and smooth rather than metallic sweet as most commercial chocolates in this country tend to be.
I had the dark hot chocolate tonight, which was so rich I could barely drink half of it. Almost immediately my stomach was not feeling good. 20 minutes later I became very sick and my system completely emptied out, which left me faint for the rest of the night. Never again.
Great coffee! Friendly staff. Several gluten free options!! Yummy. Comfortable atmosphere to relax in. Clean store and bathrooms.
Excellent assortment of quality chocolates and other candies. Lovely historical building. Worth a visit.
Best hot chocolate I've ever tasted
Iced Hot Chocolate Must Try.
The best hot chocolate anywhere.
With a name like Burdick you can't go wrong. Great little stop.
Ok place. The hot chocolate was not awesome, the milk and white chocolate too sweet, the dark chocolate too bitter. The people working in the kitchen was flustered and make lots of mistakes with our order. The chocolate is really pricey for kind of mediocre taste. Not living up to the hype.
Great hot chocolate and fast service. But be warned, if you think it's a great time to get hot chocolate chances are a lot of people are also thinking the same thing. Seating is limited and turnover can be slow.
I must admit when I walked by and saw the sign that read "best hot chocolate in the U.S." I was skeptical. However something urged me in to try... And wow. So rich in flavor, creamy and everything you would want in hot chocolate. I spiced it up with a Spicy Hot Chocolate (basically a Mexican Hot Chocolate). I substituted Almond Milk and was a bit nervous it wouldn't be as creamy. Well, it was still amazing. The staff is very nice and helpful. They take allergies seriously which is comforting. Charming little location.
Delicious pastries and handmade chocolate
Superb chocolate drinks, smooth and rich with lingering after tastes.
This is actually the best hot chocolate I have ever tried. The dark blend hot chocolate paired with the Linzer Torte gave a great mixture of the heavy flavor of chocolate with the slightly sour raspberries of the torte. A must try while in Boston.
The best hot chocolate I've ever had! Their chocolate and desserts are amazing and are made with high quality. This is a pricey place but you get what you pay for. Great way to treat yourself and/or a loved one to something special. The atmosphere is cozy and staff are friendly. There is very little seating, however, so if it's cold outside don't expect to find a spot.
Best hot chocolate I have ever had. It's more like a thick sipping chocolate. I have to get it every time I am in Boston.
Nice place and good tea and dessert.
Delicous chocolates. When its busy, bus your own tables
Should be on your list if you are travelling from india.
Its very good but its no Max Brenners.
Milk hot chocolate is good, however I didn't like the dark.
This is a beautiful, quaint store with amazing deserts and wonderful little tables to sit at.
Products are delicious ok but the staff is not always friendly. Even though they close at 10 pm they dont want to give plates or silverware after 9.30 pm.
Burdick Blend White Hot Chocolate...Oh...My...God!!!
I happened upon this place purely by accident. I bought the mice and penguins and I don't know which I enjoyed more; showing them or eating them. Delicious and totally worth the expense!
Such a cute little place with delicious chocolate treats, desserts and drinks. Hot chocolate is very rich and delicious, perhaps a little too sweet but very special. We make a special trip into Boston at least a couple of times in winter to experience it again and again. One of our favorite traditions, like skating on Frog pond or going for a swan boat ride. Everyone must try it at least once!
My best ever taste and cute mice!!
The hot chocolate is the worst. It got me and my friend really sick. They must use expired milk and ingredients and Complete lack of cleanliness. Their chocolate cake was hard and tasteless. Don't go here. Dont step foot here. Go to Max Brenner instead.
Awesome place .. little expensive.. but their chocolates and drinks are amazing.. loved hot milk chocolate drink
The greatest chocolatier in New England.
Great hot chocolate!
I love that L.A. Burdick has gluten free desert options. My favorite is the hazelnut chocolate orange cake. I recently bought a gift basket for someone, and staff was very helpful in helping me gather a great selection of flavors and products.
Bad coffee
The best hot chocolate around, and a signature warm atmosphere that is seldom found in pastry shops of Boston. Perfect for a date, or a good rest from the cold streets of Boston. Highly recommend!
I will be back. Best hot coco ever! Dark chocolate hot chocolate.
Went in around 8 pm, Sunday July 22nd. The staff was clueless, mid conversation the girl at the register decided to engage the customer behind us before completing our order. Then arbitrarily the only guy there decided that all orders were going to be “to go” orders. Despite the fact that, we, like all other customers there wanted to enjoy our coffee and desert by eating in. Nope, the guy was arrogant and insistent. When I confronted him, he said that they did not have clean dishes. However, other staff debunked that story right there. He then brought us couple of plates. What a way to ruin someone’s evening. Only for us to notice, that we and the Hispanic family behind us were the only clients that were not welcome to eat there. I am from South Florida (Greater Miami area) but an American business owner with a global firm employing 100s. Not sure what this was about :-( In this day and age we did not expect this nonsense. Especially, not in Boston. People like me are growing in population and I intend to share this experience with many more folks like me, IF that’s what this was about. I sure hope that’s not what this was. Hopefully, just a jerk ruining other people’s evening. The only staffer that was customer friendly was the short haired White girl. She tried hard to make things right but the guy was did not allow her to do that. He was nasty to her as well. What a mess! We will not return here. Not worth the insults! No room for such negativity in my life.
Wonderful cup of deliciousness! Thank you. Brought home some adorable treats for our children!
