Very pleasant coffee shop with good coffee and atmosphere. The selection isn't extensive, but what they have is quite good. There's generally at least some seating and a nice porch when the weather allows. The pastries and cookies are generally only moderately sweet, definitely not sugar bombs. The service can be slow, even if it's not very crowded. Prices are reasonable for the area.
Excellent espresso! They really have a love for the craft.
Cannot wait to come back to this little hidden gem, cute little patio and good espresso
Small coffee shop with homemade goodies
I was impressed with the coffee options at Spro and liked the decaf coffee that I got. However, there weren't that many places to sit and enjoy my coffee (which I would like to do if I'm paying $5 for black coffee).
The staff was knowledgeable about their coffee and served up quickly. The food looked great as well. The space itself has a lot of sunlight and seating available. I really liked that they promoted sustainability by providing a water tap and real glassware for use.
Not my kind of place. It feels sterile or something. The coffee is great though.
I hate coffee shops with music! So this place is, excuse the pun, my jam! Which is also to let you know that there isn't loud or variously unpleasant playlists that make concentrating impossible. There is no wi-fi, which I personally love, but Xfinity users can connect through their ID to an internet connection. I love to talk to Su and An-chi who are both wonderful employees and patient and well-informed. It is my favorite coffee shop to visit, and when I asked the owner to update the Square app so that tips could be higher by being more accessible to debit and credit card users, he did. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ESPECIALLY FOR BOOK READERS AND ANYONE WHO WISHED WE WERE STLL IN THE 90'S
Great staff and drinks!
Dope
Honey lavender latte is amazing!
Great coffee and espresso. Good place to talk to friendly locals.
Coffee is great but really annoying rules about where you can sit and work with a laptop. It's a real back ache to sit on a stool and work for a couple of hours, but all the chairs are at tables where you can't have a laptop.
The latte is stunning!
Great job too every one there.
Regular coffee was $3.00 and tasted like 50 cents. No wifi! Exactly 5 tables. Avoid avoid avoid.
friendly people, nice coffee and interesting snacks!
Great coffee (especially espresso), friendly service, and a cute atmosphere. Not much in the way of food selection, but hey, they’re a coffee shop!
Absolutely lovely place to have a great drink and wonderful service!
The coffee shop was quiet, with a few patrons spread out doing work in the front of the house (not photographed). The gentleman was friendly, prompt and efficient. I ordered an americano for in house and 2 cookies to go, costing $7. The americano was bold, smooth and well balanced. The cookies were definitely homemade, but not something I would write home about. Mexican chocolate was much better than the chocolate chip, in my opinion, however they were fresh, soft and baked well. The back of the house seating area was empty so I took up a spot and relaxed for sometime, watching the rain from the back window where they also have outdoor seating for a nice day. Coffee shop is in a cute area with many stores and restaurants in the area.
I am always impressed to the attention to detail they take in everything they do. The most week rounded espresso that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
Quite possibly the worst coffee experience. The barista was completely inept at her job, taking over 10 minutes to deliver a chai latte and a hot drip coffee. There was a guy waiting behind me, but he turned around & left, since she didn't even attempt to take his order until she was done making our drinks. My chai latte was lukewarm at best, and had zero flavor. I really don't know what she did to this drink to make it so awful. The drip coffee was also not hot. Truly disappointing.
Coffee was awful.
I stop in a couple of times a month for iced coffee. This place is tiny but even when filled with other patrons it never feels cramped. The batistas are always very nice and the outside seating through the back door is a great addition for the when the warmer months roll around. They are also dog friendly, which is another selling point, in my opinion.
It's a mixed bag with Spro. If you want a good cup of coffee, they've got you covered. It's nothing far and beyond what the other Hampden shops have but they do tend to stay open later, which is great for late night studying. Need WIFI? ... out of luck. It is a surprise that they still don't offer this, especially considering their coffee is by no means cheap. The staff has always been extremely friendly and well versed in coffee making. The regulars that attend are equally as nice. There are some tasty treats (e.g., Breadpudding) but the options are few and they aren't rotated. I can't quite put my finger on it, but another view labeled it as a "sterile" environment and this hits the nail on the head. Not in the sense of being clean, but just that as a coffee shop it doesn't invoke a homey "coffee shop" feeling.
Cute and good coffee but no wifi
Coconut milk in the latte! Yum!
I like this place in hampden, this whole street resembles to be a nice and beautiful place with lot of family run businesses, antique shops, book stores and coffee shops on the corners. I love the coffee they serve they have different variety of coffee options, they are good at making coffee, they have clearly explained What is that coffee made of and where is it from and how does it tastes like. Don't be confused with the little seating on the front side, they have more room behind the shop. Get a book from the book on the next door and have a seat and enjoy your coffee. Best Sunday morning I prefer.
Great coffee
Spro is a spectacular coffee spot. Definitely worth a stop in if you're a coffee lover.
The cutest!
Nicely curated coffee.. would be great if they were open when they say they are.
Two baristas were on break when we arrived around 12:30 on Saturday. The remaining one was nice but unbelievably slow and and forgot my drink-which was lukewarm when it finally arrived at least 15 minutes later. However, the banana bread (gluten-free!) and granola bar (also gluten-free!) were delicious--just not good enough to justify the long wait.
Fantastic coffee But somewhat indifferent/unfriendly help. They spoke about customers they disliked and other complaints about humanity the entire time I was there. Since it is a small shop, it was impossible not to hear them bad mouth the entire universe. Not a great customer experience.
More accessible than ceremony, better than artifact, less hip than thread and hands the best coffee in Baltimore. Best brewing methods. Best roasts. Best, best, best iced coffee.
Had a great latte and a muffin here. Service quick and friendly and they know how to make a proper cup.
Small coffee shop with good people. The man working this morning was very kind and helpful in selecting a coffee bean that my room mate would enjoy. Coffee beans smell wonderful, and the taste is excellent.
Great coffee!!Worth the wait
Local chain that knows their coffee. Service can be hit and miss, they are attentive once you ask them for help picking something and willing to explain, but there is an initial air of nonchalance to the staff who often prefer to talk to each other than give good service. Otherwise decent prices and quality pours on a great space. No wifi which is nice and ample sitting on small tables.
Pour over coffee and service with a smile.
This place is really great for satisfying, coffee indulgence.
Great thai tea!
Everything a coffee shop should be: cozy, lively without being deafening, and a place to get something nicer than your usual home brew. Check out the giant cold brew set-up! Coffee is always better when it comes from a giant steampunk contraption.
Great little back patio good for bringing a dog. They take their coffee very seriously, don't expect to just order regular coffee.
very good!!!
Decent flat white made with quality beans. Okay-ish pastries. Friendly but INCREDIBLY SLOW service.
meh, not the best coffee place on the Avenue. kinda pricey. The owner reached out for specific comment, which is nice I'll go back.
Expresso 81 is good!!!!
Best coffee in Hampden! Wish the store was bigger though.
My roommate surprised me with coffee from spro. It was DELICIOUS!!! The man who gave her the coffee also gave her a to go container of milk for me so I could add what I wanted. Amazing service! Amazing coffee! Cannot compliment them enough.
Great cup of coffee!
Incredible coffee with different varieties to choose from!
Small coffeeshop with great personality. The team is incredible and willing to go above and beyond to make your experience pleasant. Delicious coffee and tasty treats. Definitely a place we'll return.
There is always serendipity at Spro. You can stop in for a fancy coffee drink, or a brewed coffee and a mexican chocolate cookie and the coffee is top notch. The place has its own flow, you can explore the more esoteric nature of the coffee brewing process, but it doesn't scream "coffee nerd coffee joint" . The baristas are very knowledgeable, well trained.
I have never had a poorly executed cup of coffee at Spro.
Good coffee, but relatively pricey, and the space is fairly austere
Awesome service and my iced mocha is always on point!
Stumbled upon this while visiting Hampden. Thumbs up. Really enjoyed my cappuccino while sitting in the back outdoor area while chatting with a friend. Super friendly staff.
Cozy and unique without being pretentious. Perfect spot for a lazy weekend with a book and coffee. They have a great selection of macarons as well!
This place has great food and the wait time is perfect for short lunch breaks! Just 20 minutes sitting for a bite to eat is relaxing
loved it
Yum coffee, good vibes
Great deals & very kind people ! The avenue is a peice of Hamden ! Originally founded in Baltimore City
Great coffee! Friendly & knowledgeable Barista.
No Wi-Fi :-( Coffee is excellent though, truly the best in the neighborhood. I give three stars because how can you be a café and not offer free Wi-Fi ? I was a tourist but needed to get some work done and had to go elsewhere. They apparently they have never offered Wi-Fi. Perhaps explains the empty seats I saw one morning at 10am.
It has a "barista's barista" feel to it. The staff here are all excellent and very knowledgeable. Yes it is more expensive than your average coffee shop, but from the expertise of the staff and quality that is apparent even to a coffee novice like myself, extra few bucks totally worth it.
Love this place for pour over and cappuccino. Decent interior, customer service ranges from cordial to cool. Support this lovely local coffee shop over your local chain.
There is no one more knowledgeable about coffee in the USA than Jay C. Every coffee is delicious. The snacks are going to kill me...
Great environment! Awesome deck for sunny days!
Cute coffee shop with coffee, tea and baked goods. Great cold brew and croissants (three kinds!). Perfect place to meet a friend or enjoy time alone.
The espresso macchiatto was amazing! Alisha served us and was super helpful and kind. Great place, amazing atmosphere, beautiful neighborhood.
Went last week and had a great cup of coffee, this week I went back to try the 2007 Ethiopian coffee (pretty pricey for a cup of coffee) again. It was probably the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. I wouldve asked for a refund, but made the mistake of not trying the coffee until I was out of the shop. It was watered down and obviously they tried to stretch the bottom of the coffee bean bag. Will not go back-
The great place to enjoy a very good coffee. The staff is very nice and really cares about coffee making and customers being happy. A great place to go and chill for a bit.
The only thing notable about this place is how exceptionally rude the barista was upon taking and preparing my order. I won't be returning, and would advise others to avoid it as well.
Great place. Lovely garden
I ordered a small dark roast coffee and was told that will be $4.75....enough said
The coffee was great, and the outdoor seating out back was just awesome! Great place to go.
Best cup of coffee in Baltimore. Professional staff who are very knowledgeable about coffee.
No WI-FI! Seriously, how do you even get to label yourself a coffee shop these days without having some sort of internet connectivity?
excellent coffee but no space....way too cozy with other customers for private conversation
Try their Vietnamese coffee is absolutely great.
