There are many hidden gems in Annapolis tucked away close to neighborhoods or off of the beaten path. Grumps Cafe falls into the hidden gem category in my book despite being a Best of Annapolis winner in two categories. We had Sunday morning breakfast at this quirky little gem. We were seated quickly and joined many regulars and locals for an excellent meal. The traditional breakfast was very good as was the bacon stuffed waffle. Prices are very reasonable. You can bring your own coffee cup or choose one donated by previous patrons. Dont wait... give the a try as soon as you can.

Food is decent. I went today for lunch but hadn't been here in several months. Ordering process is not efficient. No need to have a front person give you a menu and direct you to the rear of the restaurant to order. Customer service is non existent. Perhaps the "pajama casual" attire breeds sloppy attitudes...there is always 4-6 staff members standing around socializing. Checking on customers part way through a meal to check if we need anything does not happen here. I was part way through my lunch today and I was seated near the doors, and an employee chose that time to use ammonia to clean the glass of the doors. The ammonia smell ruined my appetite and almost made me gag. This place used to be better...

Grumps has awesome breakfast/comfort food. If you're going for breakfast definitely order the mimosa shake. They also have great gluten free options (including waffles!).

Made a pit stop in Annapolis to visit a friend and she took us to Grumps. My first impressions were that I absolutely loved that it was called Grumps and that it was awesome that everyone got to wear their pajamas as their work attire. That being said, the food was pretty mediocre, but it was a nice place to get something in our stomachs and to catch up. I got the corned beef hash, and it was alright, but I don't think I would get it again.

Just had lunch here and it was really good. I ate the havarti mushroom burger with sweet potato fries. The burger had good flavor, was cooked perfectly, and the fries were delicious. The atmosphere was fun and kid friendly. They even have a changing table in the bathroom, which is rarer than one would assume. I recommend this little cafe if your looking for a quick bite in a fun place.

As I sit here enjoying myself a simple breakfast and bacon bloody Mary, I think of all the ways Grumps makes itself original and giving such a cozy feeling. Is it the cute toys they use to identify your table, how the staff is in slippers and pjs or how everyone is smiling around me... no illl tell you my favorite thing about Grumps... BACON!!! There are definitely healthy options here but seeing how they dare to try and add bacon to almost anything captures my heart. From bacon mimosas to bacon waffles to bacon biscuits and gravy they do it well. I have been here several times and never leave disappoint, this place was an easy 5 star! Good job guys/girls!

The pancakes are just to die for. The atmosphere is really homey and casual and it's a lot of fun to dine in, it feels like you're among friends. There's outdoor seating too, for when the weather is better!

While Grumps wasn't bad per se, I felt that for the prices, there should be full waitservice. The food was ok, if somewhat bland and uninspired. I particularly noted that the French toast had no flavor to it other than a hint of cinnamon. The decor is definitely cheerful and unique.

Overall a different experience in breakfast dining for our family. Food was good, except the omelette eggs where well done vs the softer style most places make. Service wasn't bad. Things to know when you walk in: 1) go to the podium and know your number of guests. 2) pay attention to the toy the person at the podium shows you, as it will show you where your table is. 3) it's more of a cafeteria style place.

Hidden Gem! Neighborhood cafe with great food and friendly staff. Everyone made me feel at home. Prices are great! I love the community vibe. They allow dogs on the patio which is great because Quiet Water Park is right down the street. This is a must do breakfast spot!

This is a family owned and operated restaurant is in a small shopping center a couple of miles from downtown Annapolis that is frequented mostly by locals. It's very casual--as you walk in, you'll be told to remember a number, which will correspond to a number printed on a plastic toy; then you will go up to the counter, the clerk will ask you the number you were given, and then you order and pay. After paying, look for the little plastic toy with your number on it, which a staff member will have placed on a table, thereby reserving it for you. The server who brings the food to you will spot you by the number on the toy, and will remove the toy after giving you your food. The food--particularly the burgers and the breakfast and lunch items--is well-prepared and served promptly, including all-day breakfast. The chef is flexible, so if you want a different twist on a menu item, don't hesitate to ask. Most of the staff members have worked there for years, and the owner, "Mr Grump," is frequently there and runs a tight ship. Prices are excellent--arguably the best deal in Annapolis. TVs hung from the ceiling and a full bar featuring specialty drinks encourage customers to relax and enjoy.

Carnivore's delight. A vegetarian has to work to order off the menu. For instance, there are four waffle menu items, all including meat. To get just a waffle, you need to order one of those items and ask to substitute potatoes or something for the meat. The food was decent but I don't like waiting in line to order before sitting.

Normally the food here is great. I ordered a favorite ... shrimp and grits. For me this could not have been the recipe from weekend Breakfast /Brunch. It was missing the sauce! And where did those chopped red bell peppers come from, no salt, lumpy grits, and finally undercooked waffle corn bread and thick ... not the usual light and airy. If I hadn't eaten this meal before I wouldn't have known what to expect. This was an epic fail for me! No need to apologize, you've lost me. Really sorry too because I've had great brunches with you, guess dinner isn't your strong suit. I'm really disappointed and sad about this. Can't give you more than 1 star.

"8 big fat chicken wings" No drummers 2 of the 8 wings were big (not fat) 6 of the wings were small Disappointed given the description & price. Hope others post a better experience than I had.

My friend and I went here for lunch yesterday! It was great. I had the French toast with a side of potatoes. The potatoes were so yummy and seasoned very well! Inside the place itself was so different to me. I enjoyed all the wall decor and the confetti like paint on the floor. I loved it. They issue a mini rubber bear to identify our table number. The waitress was nice!! I also liked that the employees wore pajamas for their uniform. Clutch !!! I would definitely revisit!

Been coming to this location for 15+ years and never had a problem. Good food for decent prices and a super fun environment. I came Monday morning and ordered chocolate chip pancakes. Half way through and on to my next bite, my boyfriend stopped me and pointed out that there was a hair. To be honest, as gross as it sounds, I usually just pick little hairs off and go on. But NO.... this was a different story. I spit my bite into my napkin where I pulled out a LONG, long blonde hair. I was disgusted because of how long it was and the fact that it was cooked into the pancake, not just sitting on top. I waited until I saw the OWNER come out from the back, Marla I’m pretty sure, held up the long blonde hair to which she responded “we don’t have anyone here with blonde hair.” Not only do my boyfriend and I have black hair, there was 2 food runners in the front of the house with blonde curly hair. She picked up the phone to make a call and completely ignored me. I was almost done my food and I wasn’t asking for a refund. Just showing the OWNER what is going on in HER RESTAURANT. No apology, nothing. Just a sorry about your luck. Looking back, I should’ve held the hair up to everyone ordering in line to show them what they might find in their food. I’m disgusted more with the owner than I am with the hair and that definitely ends my 15+ years of business I gave to Grump’s. I really hope she can put her pride and attitude aside for the next person this inevitably happens to.

We entered to find that Stop you at the door, they hand you a menu then you must go up to a counter, and order your food while they "prepare your table, by giving you a number with a rubber duckie??" mean while there are 4 or five staff just standing around!! Very odd... when we were ordering I said i will have the Ruben burger. The clerk told me she had never herd of that so I had to point it out to her on the menu. My husband Asked for a filly with American-cheese. She put the order in 15 minutes later I got the American cheese. I asked for a few napkins and she gave me 2. I asked for some more she Again gave me 2, and seemed very annoyed. my husband asked for the American cheese and The gave him 2 slices on a plate. Service was to say the least poor. And portions were as if it were rash end in the second world war(very small) price very high 25 dollars for what we got above plus 2 cola's

I wanted to love this place. The decor is cheesy, charming, homey. All staff we interacted with (dressed in pajamas on a Saturday morning) were genuinely nice and helpful. The food was meh. My husband's make your own omelette had ham instead of chorizo which is kind of a big difference... my veggie omelette was watery, a little undercooked and without any seasoning. The place is cute and we'll probably give it another try in the future.

Ordered the Crispy Chicken Ceasar salad and it was not what was described on the menu. Was supposed to have romaine lettuce and came with wilted iceberg. Ceasar dressing was not like I am used to and when asked for more none was ever brought. Overall experience was just so so. Probably won't go back.
