Sort of in the middle as far as a review. The restaurant inside - outdated. Outside entrance is part of a strip mall building. The food was inexpensive, and still offered large portions. The service was mostly a positive experience. However, while the waitress was quite flirtatious she also forgot to bring a refill that was requested. I'm sure that could've been fixed, but there was a long stretch of time where we couldn't see our waitress at all. The waitresses in general appeared very busy and unattainable throughout our meal. The food itself was okay. Not a complaint necessarily, but I wouldn't consider it better than what we'd make at home. Just more convenient if we didn't want to cook. The decor was kitschy, and tbe menu given at the table was just clutteted with stuff to read and see.

We were looking for a little local place to eat one morning and looked up places to eat for breakfast in chestertown. Ellen's came up with ok reviews. We decided to go ahead and try it out anyway. When we walked it it had a local charm. Mismatched coffee cups and locals filled the tables. We sat down in the oh so cozy booth and ordered a cup of coffee from the very sweet waitress. As I prepared my "diner" cup of coffee we chuckled about how all diner coffee tastes the same... but this cup of coffee did not. It was actually tea brewed as coffee. I'm sure this was an honest mistake and I didn't have the heart to tell the sweet waitress, so I went ahead and ordered an orange juice. The orange juice was definitely low end and didn't really have the flavor of orange juice but rather tang. Our breakfast came and we ate with enjoyment, but that was mainly because of the company. The food wasn't that great and well the coffee wasn't actually coffee in our case. I would love to see Ellen's make a few changes because local places like that are hard to come by.

Ellen's Coffee Shop is a little local diner that serves breakfast all day, lunch, & even homemade dinners. It's a place where you can go to catch up with old friends. The food is very reasonably priced. It's good for all ages. My partner & I ordered breakfast. He had eggs, sausage, & home fries with wheat toast. I had creamed chipped beef over toast with home fries. Both our meals were delicious, & the serving size was more than adequate. The only suggestion I have is that the waitress could smile & converse more.

We visit Ellen’s often on my boyfriends day off which is always Thursday’s so we can enjoy a meal together but had recently talked about maybe taking a break from going as our last experience wasn’t the best. The food is always amazing and the prices can’t be beat in my opinion but the last time we visited our waitress was not nice at all, she is never friendly but this last time she was particularly rude, short, and just seemed irritated that we had came in and interrupted her conversation with a fellow male employee that was sitting out front with her. He also seemed like he was bothered that we had interrupted his break since he greeted us with a eye roll and some sort of comment under his breath to our waitress. We discussed how unwelcome we felt and that maybe we would take a break from coming. However we made a last minute decision to come in for breakfast this Saturday August 17th as we had a couple hours in the morning to spare before heading off to work and I was really craving my favorite Ellen’s breakfast. This was the first time we have visited on a weekend as we usually only make it in on Thursday’s but I am so glad we gave our favorite place another try because we had a waitress today that we have never seen before and she completely made our visit the best one we have ever had here. She was divine, fast, friendly, smiled, talked with us and made sure we were taken care of above and beyond. We even got a short visit from her adorable little girl. We will definitely be back any weekend we get a chance to, thanks to her I can continue to eat at my favorite breakfast spot. We might just have to switch our days off so we can plan to visit when she is working for sure! Thank you Ellens Coffee Shop for employing a wonderful waitress that makes her guest feel wonderful from beginning to end.

This place was a total disappointment. So disgusting. The waitress or was she the owner took our order and 45 minutes later we finally received our breakfast. She never checked on us in the 45 minutes to see if we needed coffee or water as we were about to walk out here comes the food. In the meantime I watched the chef microwave food the entire time. They never brought us toast or coffee and gave me an omelette when I ordered eggs Benedict. I said, this isn't my order so then 5 minutes later here comes my Benedict. It was so runny and slimy. My daughters pancakes were like rubber. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Visited Ellen’s Coffee Shop today 3/10 with my family of 3. We were in town and decided to stop for breakfast. The food was excellent and prices were great, however our service was absolutely awful. Our waitress was a older African American lady who was by far one of the worst waitresses I have ever experienced anywhere I’ve ever eaten and we eat out a lot. The only reason I point out her specifics is so in case you decide to eat there maybe you can avoid haveing her as your waitress because she was that bad. Not only was she extremely rude and unprofessional she acted as if we were a inconveniences and bother to her. We were rushed with coffee in hand befor we could even get seated and the words what do you want to eat. No good morning, how are you or would you like some time to check the menu. The only time she smiled or seemed the least bit friendly was when she gave me our check and asked if we were ready to pay because in my opinion she knew it was time for her tip. There was another younger waitress also working and she seemed to be great with all of her tables. She greeted them with a smile and kind words as if she was truely happy to be waiting on each and every one of them, you could tell she enjoyed her job and served all her guest with professionalism. From what I could tell she was definitely an asset to this restaurant however the other waitress could very well be the reason this place founders as she not only was terrible with us and also her other 3 tables but my wife and I also watched her put the check money and tip money from two tables that had finished while we were there into her apron. I even stayed awhile longer then needed to see if she would eventually take the money to the register but she never did. It’s a shame to watch something like that especially when our food was great and the place seemed to be a local favorite. As for me and my family we will not be returning and if you decide to try this little coffee shop I highly suggest you trying to avoid this waitress because she will be sure to ruine your whole experience.
