Lawrence was our waiter and he was very nice and helped us decide what to get on our first time there. The food was great. After dinner we decided to get the peach cobbler with some vanilla ice cream we were initially told that they didnt have it, then we were told that they did but it would be around $2.00 extra (which was fine with us) then we were told that they did not have any. So we are not sure what that was about. I told my soon to be mother-in-law that maybe we can get her to talk to the owner and have him/her/them add Icecream to their menu & Call it "Ms. Pat's Pie or Cobbler a-la-mode"

Terrible experience! On a Sunday at 6pm arrived at the restaurant and was seated by the hostess. Only two other couples were in the restaurant. However, no one came to wait on us (or on them). After 15 minutes, we attempted to stop a waitress who just walked by without addressing us. It was as if we were invisible. We caught the hostess and asked her for service. She stated that they were waiting for a party to come and she had 3 servers assigned to them. After another five minutes, the hostess came over to us and asked if we had seated ourselves??? We told her no, that, in fact, she was the one who did so. She just walked away, while three or four workers were laughing at the bar. We walked out vowing not to visit this establishment ever again. The food is great and I have been here before once and the service was fine. But this one particular time was horrible. We waited so long for literally everything. Water, drinks, food, boxes, checks, everything! You could tell that they were short staffed but the attitude of the manager on duty made it much worse. Everyone in my party (it was only 5 of us and it wasnt crowded) was very frustrated by the end of the night. Probably won't be going there again based on that experience.

Their quality seems to have dropped off since my first visit. Waitress was very nice and apologetic about the slow service but that's no excuse. They could use a new manager because the guy they had didn't have what it takes to make that place really flourish. Food even has lost it's appeal. Get a quality manager and watch that staff improve!

My daughter's graduation dinner was done here. We made reservations In advance and they kindly accommodated my party of 23. They explained to me up front how the dinner would go from start to finish. We had 5 servers, some were fairly new, And you could tell they were learning the ropes. A few small mistakes were made with food selection but with management and seasoned staff to help, they were quickly corrected. We all had different dishes and I must say everyone was happy with their food selection ,taste and presentation. Will I go there again? Most Definitely!! I would have never thought to have had my daughter's dinner done here if it wasn't for staff member -Wendy, She did such a amazing job with our table at a Sunday brunch that I attended for the 1st time at De Soul and she suggested this will be a great place to have my family's Celebration dinner.Thanks for making our evening one we will never forget!

We went in one morning and the restaurant was extremely short staffed. Our waiter was doing everything, taking orders, answering phones, seating tables he was running the whole front of the house. The entire experience he was positive, friendly and prompt. Leo deserves recognition he is the definition of a professional, against a very unfavorable situation he did not crack and he remained professional the entire time. I hope this review makes it to his supervisor because he is a gem and as a store manager myself, I wish I had more employees like him who will not allow a bad situation allow him to provide bad customer service. Great experience!

I went for dinner and the food was good. They told us about the Sunday brunch, so I decided to come out. The Brunch is a mess. No stations... no one is working the food and worst of all I had to make my own waffle!!! I could have stayed home to make my own breakfast, had I known I was going to be cooking. This place is good for a dinner to go... but skip the Sunday Brunch!

I have not been in quite a while...years in fact and I must say it was disappointing. The stench of what smelled like sewage permeates the air when you first walk in. The service was subpar at best. Some of our food was cold. There were hardly any customers, especially slow for a Sunday evening and we still received slow service. We had to wait for our checks for what seemed like an eternity. We got so tired of waiting we had to get up and go to the bar to pay our bill, after we had already given the server our cards for payment. The server seemed to be more interested in cleaning up and changing the music that was playing in the restaurant, instead of getting us out the door. All in all I probably won't be back anytime soon.

Great customer service; servers and hostesses are polite and personable. Food quality is great, and food presentation is creative. The general ambiance of smooth jazz and dim lighting create a relaxed setting to enjoy your entrees. Very family-oriented. Live jazz band on Friday evenings is nice!!! They perform different kinds of jazz, and it's nice to not have to drive way out into the city, worry about parking or any cover charges. The bartender, Davita, makes incredible drinks! They are reasonably priced. The Sunday brunch menu has a wide variety, very clean and spacious compared to most buffets. Overall a 5-star for Southern Dining and hospitality. Tell a friend to tell a friend!! :-)

She was disrespectful to the workers preparing the buffet tsbles for Sunday brunch. Instead of pulling them to the side she went ghetto and yelled at them in front of my family. Not professional at all.

The restaurant is really nice... I dig the booth set up & the lighting. The music is cool & not blaring. The entrees are prepared VERY well (I've had their fried & baked chicken) however, there sides are... lacking. I would frequent this restaurant WAY more if their sides were more on point. However, I do suggest that people check them out & see for yourselves.

Crab cakes, catfish, meatloaf, Turkey wings and gravy, candied yams, collard greens, cabbage, mashed potatoes, cornbread, hush puppies, and much more. These are things that we ate. Loved the jazz music and decor. Friendly servers. They even cater.

Cannot comment on the food as I never got a chance to experience it because of poor service. Upon arriving there were lots of seating available yet I was told it was a 10 min wait. Once seated no one came over to bring water/eating utensils/take drink orders. When my companion asks for water the server said ok and never returned. We decided to just leave because service was non existent and the staff didn't seem to care about the comfort nor enjoyment of their guest.

We had a party of 27. There where plenty of servers walking around but only one serving our large party. All the servers had long flowing hair down their back without hair nets, or pony tails. The girl who finally bought out the plate’s hair was hanging down into them. The buffet kept running out of food where people where standing in line waiting. The best part is NO ONE had on gloves; you can see into the kitchen. Despite all of this the food was tasty and the decor was nice.

I was excited to finally get a chance to eat at De'Soul Cafe. I visited the cafe at about 1:30 on a Thursday. I was expecting it be busy as it was lunchtime but it as practically empty. I'm thinking, I'm in luck, I won't have to wait long. There was a couple at the bar, three ladies seated at a booth, and a lady seated at a booth. I was greeted by the host, I was seated at a booth in front of the lady eating solo and told, "She will be with you shortly." She, the waitress was having a conversation with the lady seated in the booth behind me. No hello, I'll be with you shortly, nothing. After concluding her conversation with the lady she walked back to the bar (opposite of where the couple was sitting) and leaned against the bar. Five minutes after being seated no greeting from the waitress. A few more minutes went by when the owner/manager? came from the back and they started a conversation regarding how things were left a previous night. During this time three ladies came in and were seated by the host with the same, "She'll be with you shortly." The host left their booth and within a 30 seconds he returned from the kitchen with a dish of cornbread for the ladies he just seated. Mind you I'm still sitting, waiting, no waitress, no cornbread, nothing. During this time the waitress walks up to the front with the owner/manager, looked right at me and continued her conversation. At this point it's been more than 10 minutes, still no service from the waitress. She continued talking and looking out the door. She then proceeds to the walk towards the three ladies that arrived after me. At that point I just slide out of the seat and headed towards the door. Terrible service, too bad because I really like to support Black owned business but I will not return. I gave it one star for the decor.

I have been here a few times and each time that I have come here the food has been made fresh to order. Everything I have order has been delicious. I would give them a 5 but today my turkey burger and fries took entirely too long to come out to me. There was NO ONE (but me and my girlfriend) in the restaurant. The food came out hot and was delicious as usual. I love the way they season the turkey burger. Customer service ok. We had to call her to get napkins and a refill but she was polite. I will be back but i think i will call ahead.

We don't blame the server because she had to do it solely. Waited 45 minutes for a margarita drink and it did not taste like a margarita. Overall:. This seems like a decent place to eat if you want something sort of fancy. You can tell that they care about the food they make. The restaurant has a nice and relaxing vibe to it, and there's plenty of space if you have a large party. Plan ahead if you do have a large party because anything more than 20 and you are practically shutting the place down. The food on average takes about 20-25 minutes to come out, just a heads up. They make just about every dish from scratch. The service was decent, but they needed more than 2 people to work the tables. Go here if you want something casual or a nice dinner date.

One of my favorite restaurants. A hidden gem! The first thing you'll notice is the fabulous decor, unique art pieces and televisions all around. The wait staff is superb! 5 star quality. This place, where do I start. We normally go to brunch and let me say, you better make sure you get there early or have a reservation. It's packs up fast and it's a place with a good bit of seating. That's a testament to the food and how good it is. The owner is a great person and always friendly and engaged with the staff. The staff are usually polite and accommodating. The only issue sometimes it's that they can be short staffed ever so often which slows things down a little but aside from that I've never had any issues there.

The service was excellent and the food was divine. We had the meatloaf and pork chops. The meatloaf was well-seasoned, moist and delicious! The pork chops were enjoyed at the restaurant and (one) at home; juicy and meltin-your-mouth good. The greens were fresh and wonderful. If you manage to save a little space in your tummy, desserts are terrific as well!

Read a lot of reviews and was a little skeptical about giving it a try. Was the first customer at opening to ensure it wasn't crowded. Took a chance and ordered the crab cakes and paid for my order..... while waiting a few minutes, was told no crab cakes available. So I looked at the menu and ordered the rack of lambs which was comparable price match. So I was a little disappointed and began to think that the reviews were true. But then the manager walked up to bar and said we do have crab cakes. Since they had already started on the lamb, he offered to throw in a crab cake. This was a nice gesture and far from the negative experiences I had read in the reviews. The lamb chops were very flavorful, tender, juice and delicious, the crab cake I suspect wasn't the size comparable to an order but tasty and the 3 fingers of Johnnie Walker Black; neat was poured to order and to my liking. I did not have a bad experience and rather received a gift for having an open mind. And a tid-bit for everyone, they are planning a dance floor an DJ, and my suggestion of a comedy night was well received by the Manager. I hope this comes to fruition as comedy is what the world needs more of these days.

A beautiful gem in Brandywine. I've been a few times before and it's always lively, fun, and with great service. I had the Orleans style salmon which comes with a nice cream based sauce, the collard greens were flavorful and seasoned well. I also had the crab dip (not pictured) which was really good, the top was a little on the oily side but once you got through the topping the crab dip itself was great. This visit was my first time to the bar and my cosmo was wonderful!

There was a disgusting stench walking into this establishment. I asked the server what the smell was, he stated he didn't know and sometimes it smells. Besides the place being empty on a Saturday evening 8pm the food was bad. I've been here alot and never have I experienced this. I ordered fried fish, potatoe salad and cornbread. The fish was old and potatoe salad smelled rotten. Disappointed is an understatement.

One of my favorite restaurants in Brandywine. When we lived in the area we came at least monthly. Have never had a bad meal here, but most of the sides are just alright. The cornbread, on the other hand, is DELICIOUS. As is the peach cobbler. It’s never too crowded either which is convenient.

The employees are very rude, including the manager. The drinks were watered down because it over 30 minutes for my family and I received them. It took about 40 minutes to order. Our food came out late and it was not good. I am 37 years old and I have never had such bad services at a restaurant in my life. PLEASE TAKE IT FROM ME NEVER GO THERE

I like the setup here just seems like they need better management. Every single person I seen come in after me had to wait for something. If it was waiting by the door it was waiting for plates to eat or to get their check, or drinks or to order. SOMETHING! Now i know this because you could see and hear the frustration. The part I didn't get was they had enough employees working. Should only take four people out front, it wasn't packed. Saying all that to say if I did find myself out that way I would try them again but, I would know that everything is going to take forever.

I won't be back. I had Turkey wings, with Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes. The wings were to salty, the Mac and cheese was okay as well as the sweet potatoes. I ordered the sweet potato pie. When I got home I tried that and had to throw it away because it had to much Nutmeg in it. I was very disappointed!!

The atmosphere and the staff that work here were 5 star during my visit. The set up for brunch isn’t perfect but the food was fresh and hot. My first round I had a breakfast plate, second round was fish, chicken, Mac and cheese shrimp and grits. All excellent! I recommend adding the bottomless mimosas for an additional $15 per person. My glass was never empty the entire time.

I got there 5 minutes after the place opened today. I thought I'd try Sunday brunch. Ok first off the young lady at the door was less than polite. She told us that they had several parties booked an 2 waitresses. Dont know why I'd really need a waitress if everything was buffet style. We were told to come back in an hour. So 1 hour later we return the same seats that were empty at 11am were still empty. We could have eaten and been gone because the last booked section wasn't scheduled to seat anyone until 12:30. We asked for the manager he took another 25 minutes to come address our complaint and this was only after one of the people of the first reserve party offered us their table. By then my friend was steaming mad. The manager was flippant condescending and smart aleck. The waitresses who took our names for seating avoided us like the plague. Fast forward the manager agreed to give a 10% discount on the meal. The chicken was hard and salty the ribs tasted day old , the shrimp was flavorless, the cabbage was sweet. Overall the food was awful.

Went here for lunch last week. The food was good, the drink I ordered was good, and the service was great. The shrimp on the appetizer menu were as big as the palm of my hand. The crab cakes on the main course menu were good as well. No complaints at all. I will be returning.

This restaurant has a lovely space with free parking, and the food is delicious. But, their service is terrible. They never seem to have enough servers. Our poor server had a table with more than 10 people, and 2 other tables. He messed up my order, but I didn't want to wait for the correct items so i just ate it. He was a very nice young man. I don't understand if they have staffing issues, just don't want to spend the money to adequately staff, or what, but i won't be back.

Decor is gorgeous and pristine, but the food does not live up to it, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure the fries they gave us are the same kind they serve at the college's cafeteria, and the turkey burger I had was pretty sad. They could have served a quarter of the fries and cut the price by a good few dollars; everything was too much or not enough. Can't say it was terrible, but I don't think I'd bother going back.

The lobby and each room in back have a TV set that can be set to a channel of your liking (from their list). I came in for a root canal today and though it took 3 hours, they made sure i was comfortable, made jokes with me as i hummed tunes. They even work out a payment plan with your through Care Credit!!

The beef short ribs are some of the best I've had. So much so that I ordered a platter for a get together at my home where I prepared everything else. Some of the other food is good, some ok. But this place is definitely worth repeat business.

I love their crab cakes, I gave 3 stars because I got carryout for my daughter and I, she got rice as a side and it smelled like it was spoiled. I haven't returned since. I'd give them a try, just don't get rice.

The food was good for the most part, but the service was not. We had a large party (over 20 ppl) that previous reservation were made. The staff was not prepared, it took us over 30 minutes to be seated and about an hour to place our order and another hour or more for the food. The waitress was very rude an inexperienced. The bartender wasn't pleasant or experienced either. The ambiance was great. ...they need better staffing and it starts at the top.

Horrible customer service. I read the reviews before I went but decided to give it a chance anyway. Went there for drinks and appetizers at 1pm on a Saturday(party of 10) and was told it was going to he a 30 minute wait however, the place was not busy nor crowded. Decided to wait because all of our party hadn't arrived. Oh, they were seating parties of 2 and 4 while we waited. At 1:35 spoke to the manager, who was very rude, to find out when we were going to be seated. She said when we give you a time it's not exact but we could sit down at a table but no one would be there to wait on us. She told me they were short staffed and it would be another 25 minutes. So after an hour we decided to go to Chevy's. Great customer service. Left our server a $100.00 tip. I was embarrassed because I recommended this place to my colleagues.

I must say, I've never heard of this establishment, or knew that the location was local, and in a great spot! The environment is perfect to bring family and friends, as the staff displays a very family felt energy to the customers. I ate there on a Sunday with my family, and it was 12 of us. Our server, was a very nice gentleman named Leo, who was very pleasant and professional. Our seating was arranged to our liking, Leo insured that our orders were correct, and placed in a timely fashioned. They also serve delicious cornbread and great homecooked food with great prices! Oh!! And don't forget my Sunshine Margarita!!! Loved my experience, definitely recommend!!

Backwards slow Arrived at the restaurant at 5pm on a Sunday. Approximately 6 other parties in the restaurant. At 6 pm we still did not have drinks (8 people). 6:30 some of the main dishes arrived, 20 minutes later the sides arrived. The final entree arrived (after the sides) 12 minutes later. People at my table complained that food was not hot, barely warm. The drink order messed up as well. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you have nothing to do with your life!

If only I could give this place a negative -10..Reservations for 5:00 p.m., didn't get seated until 5:45 p.m. (while waiting to be seated, the young lady cleaning the table was on her cell phone taking her time cleaning the table), we didn't get any water until 35 minutes after being seated, one of our party members walked over to the front desk and retrieved menus for our table, when the appetizers (wings) finally came (they were good) the blue cheese dressing came after the wings were gone, and it took an hour and a half for two drinks from the bar. The list of poor service goes on, but at 7:50 we still didn't have our food after having 5:00 reservations. I will never ever go to this place again. You couldn't get not one smile from no one. The absolute worst service ever!

Food was ok at best. We ordered : turkey wings with cilantro rice and greens- wings and rice lacked flavor but greens were good. Fried chicken with Mac n cheese and greens - chicken was crisp and flavorful but Mac n cheese was greasy and nothing to run back for. BBQ Ribs and Chicken with candied yams and collard greens - ribs were boiled and sauce appears to be added at the end and not baked in, chicken was extremely dry and candied yams did not have much flavor and were missing the “candy”, were actually very dry. Service was extremely slow considering the number of people in the restaurant and staff werenot friendly at all. Also, the bathroom needed attention. I would only recommend going for the corn bread which was very good.

Waited 1hour 30 minutes for food after placing order for 5 people. Waitress kept saying she was bringing our food next. People that came in after us ate and were leaving. No apology from management. Really should have left but promise of food coming we stayed. Was it worth the wait. NO. Then had to wait more brought wrong dish to family member. Bad experience for a Sunday afternoon or anytime.

Literally the best "soul food" I've had in the area for a while. The atmosphere is great and the food matches. My only complaint was the last time I went my glass was seriously dirty with lipstick but I've went a couple of times and didn't have that problem so I'll assume it was a 1 time thing . Headed there now actually. I recommend it to everyone when I get a chance. I love any well kept black own business!
