Compass is a fun little coffee shop with great cold brew! I enjoyed stepping inside to an inviting (and air-conditioned) atmosphere to enjoy some cold brew and conversations. Would definitely return if I’m in the area!
Great Cappuccino, actually had the right amount of foam. Better prices than your bigger chains as well for the same volume. Store uses regional milk as well to make drinks. The environment was nice as well, support local. I will for sure return! Keep up the good work.
Amazing place. Staff was super friendly and helpful to help me find a hotel nearby and gave me a bunch of directions and pointers. Love you guys!!
Friendly staff, tasty coffee, and solid selection of pastries. The nitro cold brew growlers were nice for easily transporting bulk coffee back to where we were staying.
Great coffee and expert roasters to show you the way. Their blends are easy to understand even for a beginner. Highly recommend signing up for a roasting tour on eventbrite!
One of the best cappuccinos I have had. Came here directly from Milk (the bakery) after having an awful cappuccino (it was too hot, not the right amount of foam, and mostly milky with little espresso taste). Read a review about compass coffee and went directly there to try it. I’m from out of town and a love a good cup of coffee and a good cappuccino. This cap hit the spot. Right temp, right taste.
Love their coffee blend
Great atmosphere and friendly staff!!
Fantastic local coffee place.
The hot coco was good but very sweet, so be aware of that when you buy it! The service is really friendly and fast, the vibe is relaxed and the interior is simple but warm. It was really crowded so I think it might be hard to find seating at certain times. 1
It was a a nice modern coffee shop. The coffee is strong, not for those who are not true coffee lovers. At first I was surprised that their large coffee seemed small, then I took a sip and realized a large might have been too bold of a choice. It was busy but the service was quick and friendly. It was a nice place to catch up.
First coffee shop I visited in D.C.! Stopped after finishing my run. It was so delicious, and the workers were so kind and upbeat. Wish I had gotten a larger size cup!
Wow! I went to DC this last weekend for cherry blossoms festival, this place had a cherry blossom flavored coffee. They had lot of other varieties of coffee as well. They had a big coffee grinding machine which was pretty cool.Great ambience and pretty good coffee ☕️!
A fine DC institution! All the cold brews are super good. Their blueberry muffin is out of this world, and you should try the mini bagels. Ah, wish they open a location in NYC.
My go-to coffee spot in DC. Have bought several of their coffee bean tins as well. Currently using their espresso blend — amazing!
Probably my favorite coffee shop in the area. Love the staff and ambiance.
Maybe I’m used to amazing NYC coffee but this wasn’t great. My latte was strangely sweet, and they didn’t even have an option to get oat milk. Come on, it’s 2019! The baristas were very slow at making drinks. I would say the quality was on par with starbucks. The interior was cool, and the prices were very reasonable.
Excellent service. Hot chocolate is really great.
Nice coffee shop good location from the white house.
Stopped in for a cappuccino before heading out for the day. Beautiful shop with open space to check out the roasters at work. Friendly service and very good pricing for drinks.
Compass is the best coffee in dc by far. This particular location is my local spot. Always very friendly service. Very peaceful vibe inside. Only item for improvement is line logistics. Didn’t take away from the 5 star experience though. Rock on compass.
Great local coffee shop that roasts their own beans. Try their mint nitro cold brew for something a lil different!
Had a vanilla latte and the ham and cheese croissant when I stopped by. The latte was really good, not too sweet, and the croissant still flaky and not oily. Nice atmosphere in the place, with the sacks of beans and roasting equipment in the back within view from the seating area.
One of the reasons Hot Chocolate can taste so good is because they know the exact coordinates to impress your tastebuds. While I go here maybe once or twice a week. The experience is always amazing. The staff is more than helpful and friendly. Wish I could give more stars. Oh the lemon pound cake is better than Starbucks and so are the brownies.
A fantastic experience with helpful employees and amazing coffee! I got a red eye with only one shot of espresso, and holy balls it is delicious! Also got a jalapeno bagel ball. The cream cheese was not distributed the best but once I found the cream cheese it became heavenly. Shoutout to everyone working on August 2nd at 12:30! They helped me pick the right coffee and recommended I check out the roasting spot up the street. Best coffee outside the pacific northwest I've had!
My favorite coffee spot in DC!
Yessssah, tasty and strong
Clean & airy layout, with all the roasting equipment serving as the perfect backdrop. The aroma is lovely & subtle, just like the blends on offer: balanced and elegant. Give this spot a try if you find yourself anywhere nearby-- I promise you won't regret it. Ambiance, excellent roasts, expert baristas, all add up to a topnotch coffeehouse experience.
We were doing a tour of DC and had pre-arranged with management with to use this place as our halfway rest stop. Thirty minutes after we arrived and we're eating our food and beverages at their tables they kicked us out. No explanation. We have our guesses though.
Cafe Latte and employees service was 5 Star but gave 4 Star because the temperature of my latte was more warm than hot. Other than that, I will return.
Warm place to sit back, had four varieties of drinks and were delicious. Staff was friendly and owner was very polite and showed how they roast the beans. I recommend it to others
Great coffee and solid service
Good local coffee. This location is always busy but the staff is always friendly. Pretty decent coffee as well.
Yum! Very tasty and quick. It's a small place with only a few tables . But the staff are quick and the food is fantastic. Everything we tried was very tasty. Large portions for not much money. Well worth a visit.
Small but clean and awesome coffee shop in Washinton. The atmosphere was relaxing and the surrounding was spotless. I recently tried the maple latte and some of the pastries and I say that was really tasty and delicious. Will be back soon!
Strong coffee.
When visiting DC, my girlfriend and I decided to stop at compass coffee. It was so interesting to see the coffee beans being roasted in front of us. When we moved seats to get a better view, the coffee maker Chris asked if we wanted a tour of how coffee is made. This was an awesome experience and Chris was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. If you’re in DC definitely stop here.
Nice variety of coffee with interesting flavors. Staff is friendly and willing to work with you. Tried a cup of Nitro with Vanilla and was pleasantly surprised. If you don't like your coffee on the sweater side, ask to get less flavor added. The Nitro makes the coffee very creamy without any actual cream.
I did a coffee roasting and cupping workshop here. So awesome! Appreciate this place even more now!
Went to a cupping experience in DC on a February weekend and was very impressed! Denisa and Roberto spent more than an hour with our group and we learned SO much about coffee. The prices are competitive and the space is cozy. This is a great coffee shop and seriously good roaster combined. Parking is challenging but we loved our visit. Can't wait to return.
The perfect coffeeshop.
I love this gem of a coffee house! The charm of the small space coupled with the delicious coffee made a great stop while we were visiting DC.
Everyone was so kind and the food was absolutely amazing!
One of the best coffee places in town!
Great coffee. Usually a very busy coffee shop, but there is a lot of seating and a great vibe. I recommend the Nitro coffee
I am not a coffee aficionado but I like it here. I actually like the coffee here and the shop itself is a nice place to hang out. And the barista taught me about oat milk - which I like! The baked goods are pretty yummy, too.
Very helpful and delicious maple latte made with oat milk. Other food items were terrific!
So much better than Starbucks, it isn't even funny.
Good Coffee and good people work here.
Definitely the coolest coffee shop in DC. You can tell by the people, the process, the atmosphere and the taste that this is a quality product. Also, the prices are very reasonable. All good in here, all good. Will be back.
Everything bagel with stuffed and seasoned cream cheese was amazing!! Strong and authentic Columbian coffee.
Great place for coffee, great selection of coffee nice shop and good customer service
Fantastic! I’ve been drinking their coffee these last two weeks on a business trip. Their variety of roasts are excellent. The cold brew is the best I’ve had. I wish they were here when I lived in the District.
I had a hot chocolate milk here and a lemon pound cake. The hot coco was good but very sweet, so be aware of that when you buy it! The service is really friendly and fast, the vibe is relaxed and the interior is simple but warm. It was really crowded so I think it might be hard to find seating at certain times.
Friendly and welcoming, with spectacular coffee. The staff is efficient and knew my name by visit #2. They open at six every day and close at eight—friendly to early birds and late starters alike!
Fantastic coffee!
The warm apple cider is delicious and the staff is very friendly.
very bright inside and there was a doggie dock outside so I saw a few cute pups outside
Great coffee amazing atmosphere. Good place too go. If noise bothers you it's not a good place to work. It doesn't bother me so I love it!!! The Nitro cold brew is great, the espresso is great. The coffee is not very acidic and the roasts seem perfect!
Tasty and they got my drink out very quickly despite it being busy! My one complaint is that it wasn’t stirred all that well, so a bunch of the caramel flavoring in my latte was down at the bottom. That being said, all but the last two sips were still very good and I’d visit again!
The entire place is convenient to do some studying, read a book or what you have to do with your free time. The staff is always on lookout whenever their customers might need their assistance. So far this is the most suitable place for me to grab some coffee.
The coffee is good, and the case of store-baught pastries is fine, but what you're really here for is a good work space to settle in with your laptop. Be warned: this is an active roastery, so the space is very loud with roaring machinery, at least during my visit.
Simply the best coffee roaster in DC. I buy their Cardinal Blend as my everyday coffee, which is so smooth and supercharges my workday. I've been enjoying trying their single-source beans from around the globe. Never had a bad cup of coffee from this place and the service is always excellent.
Love love this coffee and the people!
The service is the best!
Great coffee and an awesome place to sit and work for a while.
Good cold brew!
Pricey but good, with nice atmosphere
While visiting from out of state we stumbled upon this awesome coffee shop. Not only was the coffee great, but while enjoying our coffee and quick breakfast we were able to observe their roasting process. We even started chatting with the roaster and he invited us back into his work space to show us the whole process and answer questions. He was very knowledgeable and so passionate. Not only did we get a great cup of coffee, but an amazing experience!
Lovely coffee place and neighborhood hangout
Amazing Coffee. Almond Butter Latte is highly recommended
My rating isn't so much for the coffee but for the rude staff at this location. I ordered an extra hot no foam latte (my normal coffee order) from the cashier. It was written on the cup and passed the barista. After the drink was made and given to me, I took a taste and it was just like warm. I politely handed it back to barista and ask for it to be extra hot as requested. I had headphones in but could still hear the barista speaking with his colleague. I overhear him telling her "how do you order an extra hot latte with no foam." I didn't feel like arguing this man so I just waited for my coffee and was ready to go. He hands back the cup and asks how it was and I simply respond, "mhm, thanks," and turn to leave. His colleague asks what did I say and he replied with a very sarcastic "thanks." At this point, I can't help myself so I turned around and basically said that I had requested an extra hot coffee and simply asked for you all to correct my order -- I didn't know it was such an issue. Also, super unprofessional for you to talk about me while I am standing in front of you. His colleague let me know that it was simply a miscommunication between the barista and the person that took the order. I pointed to the cup where extra hot was clearly written. There was no apology from these people and I simply turned and left. I make this order daily and no other coffee shop has had such an issue with it. Also, super disappointed at such poor customer service. Do better.
Cannot tell you how much I have fallen in love with Compass coffee. I drink their coffee everyday. I have their coffee with me. And spend weekends at the roastery. Great place to work, relax, coffee. And the baristas are so friendly
The people are genuine and nice, but the coffee is nothing special.
Very poor service from this one short girl that works there. They used to have good customer service the other employees are nice but this one girl she doesn’t even have a name tag on had an attitude everytime I go there. Zero star customer service. I am a regular there that keeps giving them my business almost on the daily.
Cute coffee spot with local coffee! Get the large soy latte if you're a vegan. It was amazing! They also do cold brew.
