As you know, we do not usually bother to give feddbacks when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Coffee Shop is included in the category of Organic restaurant.
I like this place, but they seemed understaffed, and the woman that took our order wasn't very friendly and didn't give very good customer service.
This place is a winner for all the different eaters I know. Excellent Burgers. Everything tastes delicious. Outstanding veggie burgers. Multiple vegan options we tried several and they were all delicious. Great lattes. 100% recommend that you go here.
Fantastic coffee drinks and chai tea. Super warm and cozy atmosphere.
Great Vegan choices.
Excellent will go again. Felt like home with better food.
Chill casual spot! Ployes are soo good! Grilled cheese with local ham, tomato and pesto ! Bingo bango!
Cute business with a lot of vegan/gf options or substitutions. I had the breakfast burrito which was ok but oddly sweet which I couldn't quite understand. One friend had a breakfast sandwich which was ok and the other got eggs, toast, potatoes and a chai latte which she said was just ok. In a city full of great food it didn't measure up but seemed like a great place for people with food allergies or special diets and I appreciate that the food is locally sourced/organic.
Just really good.
Great dishes, good atmosphere, and they use local produce.
Clean, good food, kid friendly
Loved this place. Very friendly service and the portions were good. We checked out the fish tacos and they were the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend trying those!
We went in today but the temperature inside convinced us we could find a much warmer place to eat....we didn't stay.
Only reason for 3 is the horribly slow kitchen staff. 40 mins for a egg sandwich togo. Coffee and good quality are excellent though, if you have time it's worth the wait.
I am visiting town for the PortFringe Festival, and stopped to have a snack here. Great home fries, cozy atmosphere, reasonable prices. Solidarity and five stars!
Excellent vegetarian and vegan options. Local Sprouts has a very distinctive vibe -- grungy and ever-so-slightly scuzzy, with lots of random old furniture. But if you're into that, it's a very chilled and pleasant place to hang out.
Breakfast was okay! Cool vibe.
Great food, friendly atmosphere, is very crowded and chaotic on weekends, but the food is worth the wait. The vegan baked goods are amazeballs. If its too crowded, get your pastries to go. Would highly reccomend the sticky buns, maple pumpkin seed whoopie pies and chocolate peanut butter rice bars.
Best weekend breakfast on Congress St. Locally sourced food with the occasional band or reading. Really unique mixed drinks and baked goods are an added bonus.
The Chai Harder is an amazing and the people here are lovely. :)
Very artsy atmosphere and decor. Good expresso and other coffee options. Food menu has variety of choices ranging from breakfast to sandwiches, etc. Took a while for our meal to come out (>30mins) but all our food was great.
Super sweet co-op serving delicious, nourishing eats with heart and soul
Locally-sourced yummy food prepared by worker-owners.
Amazing local organic vegan food in a laid back, comfortable atmosphere. I reccommend trying all the vegan dishes (there is food for carnivores too). Great beer on tap & inventive cocktail menu. The staff couldn't be nicer!
The Aztec brownies are AMAZING!
Wish there were more feminist establishments like this in the world. Love the truly unique flavors of their specialty coffees, and their familial vibe.
Great menu & tinctures!
The food was incredible! I look specifically for organic, local restaurants and this place fits the bill. Friendly staff, tasty coffee drinks and perhaps most importantly, an array of delicious, satisfying entrees to please anyone. Love it! Will be going back for another breakfast today!
Nice place, cozy with ample options on food, drinks, etc.
A delicious and heavenly peaceful environment. Thank you for great, healthy food and the gentle nsture here
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, good moderately priced food.
Great vegan and vegetation food! Amazing service! Very welcoming and accepting place. Cozy.
Great organic cafe with local food sourcing. Fun play area inside for kids and tins of families coming in to enjoy the vibe.
Cozy space with yummy food at a good price. Have only had breakfast here so far, but am always surprised at how filling the food is, especially the breakfast burrito!
Very pleased to find this place during a recent visit to Portland. Great vegan and vegetarian options with an appreciation for local sourcing!
Delicious! Many healthy vegan options!
Good latte. It was loaded with people. Little cold. Heat it up people...
Loved it totally
Enjoyed my fish tacos maid entirely of ingredients from Maine, though the beans and rice were bland. The cheesy garlic bread was yummy as well.
We went here for lunch with my family (all adults) and I was initially sceptical of the kids area and thinking that there would be a ton of kids running around this restaurant. That was not the case, the kids area is to keep kids occupied but it's not like a Portland attraction for kids. With that settled... the restaurant was fantastic. All the foods are local and I mean ALL. The map on the wall shows where all the food and drinks are from. Staff was friendly and wanting to help. I got the pancake with maple syrup, berry compote, earth butter and sausage patty. My food was delicious as was everyone elses. I would recommend this restaurant.
Place was awesome, food was great
Organic without being pretentious. Fresh and local without being expensive. I am typing this from the free wireless, which I have been using for 2 hours without anyone bothering me. It's a place where locals gather and know each other, people randomly pick up instruments and start playing, and everyone does their own thing harmoniously. More cities should have places like this.
I'm obsessed with this place. I haven't ordered anything I didn't love. Terrific food and delicious cocktails. Great selection for everyone: omnivore, vegan, etc.
Was meeting a friend at Local Sprouts to drop off some soup, I am not a coffee or tea drinker but the atmosphere was delightful... This was my first time ever stepping into the establishment and it was clean, quiet, and cozy... The friend I was meeting frequently visits and hangs out at Local Sprouts and has often told me great things about the staff and other regular customers...
I want to like this place, and I kind of do, against my will and better judgement. The food is usually quite tasty, and it has a comfortable atmosphere. However, last time I went, the food was so salty it was literally inedible, like, it might have had a tablespoon of salt in it. They let us reorder, I asked for my food unsalted, and it came back Mostly Inedible, like, with just HALF a tablespoon of salt... I've stood in line with other customers waiting for the cashier to finish her personal phone call with her back turned to us, before finally taking our orders as if she were sleepwalking. And, it's always a really long wait for food. Always. My friend tried to plan for the wait a couple days ago by coming in 90 minutes before he had to go to work, and after waiting nearly an hour (50 minutes) for it, had to have it packed to go. What's going on? Are the worker-owners who are actually working afraid to look like jerks by telling their slacker worker-co-owners to get with the program? Is there any accountability here? I love the worker-owner/local food concept, and when the food is good, it's really good; I can even put up with waiting 30-40 minutes for a meal - but the last four times I've gone it has been such a drag and a turn off that I've stopped going, and I'm bummed because I'd like them to be better - I really do want to like Local Sprouts. It'd be great if they could improve their service.
Great atmosphere, good food, theres even vegan and vegetarian options. I recommend the iced chai tea.
Great place to have here in Portland Promoting community and well being I encourage all ethical coffee shops to use reverse osmosis water
Local Sprouts is by far my favorite restaurant in Portland. Their food is amazing, the staff members are friendly, prices are great and oh god, the vegan desserts. If you are vegan, GO HERE IMMEDIATELY.
A good local place to buy some of the amazing and great organic products!!
This place looked great. They seemed to have everything right; good ingredients, cool atmosphere, great concept... then we had the food. The eggs were over cooked and full of shell bits. The bread was dry and chalky. My wife's gluten free roll crumbled apart as she ate it. A gas station could have provided a better sausage patty. My wife got a gluten free blondie that turned to sand in her mouth. I think the employees here should track down every person in their supply chain and apologize for taking the ingredients they worked so hard to produce and systematically ruining them. Latte was ok.
Despite Google's listing this place ISN'T strictly vegetarian.
Welcoming atmosphere with a broad assortment of quality food full of lots of flavors. If you are vegan or crave that hink of meat, there is something delicious for you.
Fresh and tasty food
Good food, nice people
Since it opened several years ago, Local Sprouts has been my favorite eating/hangout establishment in Portland, Maine. From its mellow, always welcoming vibe to the delicious, healthy, often locally sourced food and drink and great local live music, I always leave satisfied and impressed. It is founded in heart- based political activism that promotes loving, responsible community. I wish them continued success. Thanks for making Portland and the world a better place!
Great vibe, piano that is in tune, and lovely atmosphere!!
Great vibe, wonderful & invested employees and delicious, local menu. Family friendly, large group friendly. Live music. Hippie, unique and always busy.
Great place with awesome food, including vegan stuff.
Yummy food, counter culture vibe, good for kids!
Pricey but worth it if you can budget it in to support a local coop that supports local farmers. The food is tasty and the zine library has some interesting reads; they have fun events including a Sunday brunch concert, and an active community board making it a good place to plug into the goings on of Portland. One of the best things about local sprouts is that they do not pressure people to eat there. When I was homeless I would just hang out having coffee from time to time and work off my laptop, or just go their for a bit to get out of the cold, and the workers were very understanding and supportive. I appreciated that a lot.
We went here looking for vegan cupcake and an escape from freezing cold outside. We did get some cupcakes, delicious dark chocolate, sat on what looked like furniture from great grandmother's antique collection, listened to live music from local artists. Friendly staff! There are modern art hanging on the wall that you wouldn't find anywhere else. All in all a great joint..came for heat, stayed for the seating :)
Always loved this spot for brunch or breakfast.
I like the concept more than I like the food, but overall not bad for a veg joint in Portland.
Fun chill vibe. Delicious food. It was a nice place to kick back and enjoy the ambiance. Salad and BLT were both amazing, and they had multiple gluten free options.
I have no idea why people say bad stuff about the staff at this place. I've been a number of times and the staff is really nice. The real deal-sealer for me was the way they handled an intoxicated person in the restaurant - asked him where he was staying, got him some water, called appropriate services to come pick him up, did not involve the police. I bring everyone from out of town to this place. The waits can be a little long but prices are fair and food is good!
Wish I could have tried the food, but we left after over 40 minutes of waiting and being told there were still three tickets ahead of us. Wish I could get those 30 minutes of my life back. It was SO hot inside too. Both toilets were out of paper and towels.
They're always out of stuff, and it may take up to 3 minutes for them to acknowledge your presence at the counter, but I haven't found a better place to get a vegan breakfast
Good attempt at healthy food. I had the ‘fake out’ hummus wrap which had half a pickle 4 leaves and some carrots with more of a hummus spread. For $10, kinda ridiculous. Not sure some of the other dishes but value for what I bought was bordering on scam’ish! And no fans and no ac, with 90+ degrees inside made the experience worse. I am sure this is a great place if you order the right thing and go on a pleasant day.
Live music on Sundays. Popular with young families. Vegetarian options. Only on-street parking. Order at the counter and seat yourself. Kitchen is slow.
Delicious and cozy. Excellent work or hangout space
Tasty choices and good ethical standards
I walked in the door and fell in love!
Very friendly staff, incredible food, and a laid back warm atmosphere. The coffee is exceptional and they also have the best Vegan Mac and Cheese I have ever had.
Food is good (although my veggie burger came a little burned) but the service is really bad. It is a very disorganized and unfriendly place, when my husband asked for ketchup the girl told him “get it at one of the tables”, are you kidding me??? just one ketchup in the whole place??? The best thing about this place is that they have a organic food but we’ll not return.
Great Food. Love to see a very liberal cafe out there
I loved this place. It was perfect for my restricted diet--gluten, dairy, and egg free. I had the blackened fish taco with cole slaw on a gluten-free tortilla with a side of rice and beans. It was fresh and delicious. My husband had a delicious bowl of chili. I also had a yummy gluten-free scout bar. Will come back here again!
House baked readymade goods are amazing but the service for food can be very slow (30min +/-). Ask for wait time if you are in a rush.
The people and the food are progressive and local.
This place is awesome, great great people, lots of vegan and gluten-free options. Kid-friendly and you often find local bands playing. One of my favorite places in Portland
TL;DR: This place is amazing and I can't wait to come back. I'm in love with this place. Passed through while visiting Portland on a friend's recommendation. I have a ridiculously strict medical diet that doesn't allow me to eat gluten, soy, sugars, grains, fruit, dairy, etc. Basically, I live off of clean meats and vegetables. I can't even have most oils. When I go out to eat, I'm the bane of every server's existence, for good reason. Walking into Local Sprouts, I immediately felt at home. The person who waited on me at the counter was lovely and accommodating (and has what reminded me of a Padawan braid, but I didn't want to be that person) and, along with their coworker, made sure that I wouldn't get sick from what was prepared. Not only that, it was one of the best meals I've had in I honestly can't remember how long. My simple sautéed vegetables with light seasoning and lemon pepper chicken were delicious and satisfying and I don't feel like I'm about to die having eaten it. I also have fairly radical politics and I really like dark, vaguely creepy art. The fact that Local Sprouts is worker-owned and goes out of its way to accommodate everyone they can makes me incredibly happy. The paintings for sale on the wall, by Stephen Lavellee, are beautiful and ominous and evocative. If I wasn't traveling, I'd be going home with at least one of them. So, go here and eat delicious things and support an awesome community.
Great place for grownups to snack in also for the young one. My kids love it they enjoy playing with other kids and of course the special treats.
Fresh, local, delicious. Very kid-friendly. Often loud. Hosts fun arts events. Parking available.
Fun vegan find! I loved the pancakes and tofu scramble, and my family said the BLT was excellent. There's even vegan baked treats!
Amazing Breakfast, cool vibe great live music and friendly staff! Can't wait to go back! Oh and the coffee, drink the dark roast coffee!
Best vegan scout bars in the world. Everything is local, and it is cozy with plenty of room!
Love love love
This place is real hit-or-miss, it's too bad, because it has such a great atmosphere has such great potential. I just paid $9.50 for a couple slices of bread, tomato, and soy product with a small pile of lettuce on the side. I paid $1.80 for a 6 oz cup of coffee, no refill. The hours are weird. Portland needs a night time hangout that's not a dive bar. Local sprouts used to be open at night. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe the despondent worker/owners decided it was too much hassle to stay after 5pm. Solidarity.
I don't mind coop run business , I think it is a good idea. I fell sick, picked up a cold virus and that too in july.
Great breakfast and very nice staff. Would recommend if you looking for a vegan/vegetarian place and or just really good food.
Very chill atmosphere in an eclectic setting. Food was tremendous with a lot of vegan options! Huge portions! Awesome service and staff! Can't wait to return!
Had the vegan mac n cheese with added mushrooms. Price was reasonable for the menu options. Decor could use a little refining as chairs do not match and a little busy to the eye. Interesting atmosphere. Friendly service.
they keep changing the rules here and it confusing to customers so people don't return here often this place lazyier everyday
Food is great, sometimes it gets really crowded because it's so popular. Good local to Maine snacks and treats along with the dishes.
Great place
One of my favorite places in portland to eat. Food is fresh, healthy and local and the ambiance is friendly and cozy. This is a stellar place to meet with friends or have a coffee and get some work done. If you go for dinner there is a good chance there will be music (sometimes good, sometimes not). If you want to have an quiet conversation over dinner this might not be the right place depending on the night. In my opinion always the right choice for breakfast and lunch. Gluten free and vegan options here!
I went for the first time this past Sunday and had a great time. To my surprise there was a folk band playing and music enthusiasts kicking back enjoying song and a meal. We ordered the Veggie burger which was good but I felt it need more substance. It was a little thin compared to the over-sized English muffin it comes on. I hate to use the "where's the beef" line but we need a little more. The staff is really welcoming and friendly. If you have little kids you'll be happy to know there is a kids corner complete with toys and books (even a changing table in the bathroom)! The perfect place for organic, local, fair-trade, music, and great vibes. Here's my tip, fill your pockets with the Mexcian Chocolate Biscotti (after paying for them of course). They are incredible and have a little bit of a kick to them. The prefect balance of flavored sea salt, spice, and of course, chocolate. In fact, I'm walking over there right now to buy a few.
Wow, are you trying to go out of business? I stood by the register while the hipster clerk was on her phone, after three minutes, which I know she saw me, she said I'll be right with you, then proceeded to finish her epic text. When she finally walked over, the smell of her body odor should of told me to flee. 35 minutes later I received my breakfast sandwich, which was on soggy bread. What happened to your food and service. I took two bites and threw out the rest. Won't be back. I used to eat there three times a week, but time and time again, the service was rude, and as if they hate life and everyone else but themselves. You need to change a lot of things and soon.
Nice place, but terrible hours. 8 to 5!? How are you going to reach out to the community of people who work for many places in the Portland area? It is 6 am and I was hoping to run in and hang out from 7 to 9. A coffee house not open at 7 am? Sad. They are making themselves look weak. Please let people know about you by having them allowed to walk in! I show people from other cities Portland and they think it is dead or collapsing because cool spots like Local Sprouts is closed at 5pm.
The breakfast sandwich was really tasty. I added shitake mushrooms, delicious!
Food is spicy but great. If you get there at 5pm there is plenty of setting. It was not to expensive ether. It is a all around good place to have dinner.
Fabulous vegan options available at this friendly, funky throwback to the 1960’s. Casual atmosphere, great food, righteous organization - what more could you want?!
I love this place. but I wish it was completely vegetarian or cruelty free. but it's still great, and if like to marry all of the folks that work here, so that's a plus.
Nice Locally Sourced Ingredients cafe, the burger was too salty on the day we went (probably a mistake but since my wife and I had the same problem, I'd rather share). Everything else was good.
Great food, great atmosphere, great mission.
Great locally sourced food.
So yum organic faire! Vegans, kids, old farts... something for everyone. Service can be a lil weird...but the food makes up for it.
Blueberry basil kombucha, a veggie burger named after the moon. Everything tasted bittersweet.
Great VLT, presented beautifully and delicious!! Great 1st meal in Portland
Can't recommend, unless you have all day to hang out and wait for your food to arrive cold, drink lukewarm tea that refuses to steep and appreciate dour-faced staff who can barely bring themselves to mumble a thank you.
Fresh and delicious food with a very cozy feel. It reminded me of my favorite cafe from my hometown. Prices were reasonable too.
Found this place at the last minute Sunday morning. Walked right in and ordered. Food was outstanding, fresh and all we could ask for in a breakfast. If I lived here this place would definitely be in the rotation.
Eating here is a laid-back dining experience. Breakfast is solid with great coffee and amazing cinnamon rolls.
Great atmosphere. Cinnabuns are delicious but the veggie home fries have too many veggies
We go there regularly for breakfast and enjoy there unique dishes.
Been here a couple times now. Great food, hippie vibe, welcoming staff. Deducted one star due to how long the food takes to come out.
A cozy place to contemplate uncomfortable memories, or listen to weird slam poetry. Great salads.
I was here about 12: 30 pm on a Tuesday. About half the tables had occupants and there was no line at the counter. My vegan hot wrap arrived after only a short wait.
Both the (V) and the (M) bbq tacos are wonderful. I tried the honey latte but it came out very bitter while the chicken taco left a bad taste in my mouth. The menu is inconsistent but if you guess right it's a treat. Be sure to visit when you're feeling lucky.
Delicious food as always, many vegan options.
Go here immediately
Went to so many places in Portland and this was definitely a favorite. Great Coffee unlike Arabica Coffee, that stuff was plain ole nasty.
Best grilled cheese ever
The breakfast hash is bomb but the featured art is a little one dimensional.
I enjoy this destination more than most for breakfast or a snack. You're simply looking for a hearty and healthy meal and you've got Local Sprouts with fair pricing, safe place for kids and people of all kinds. They have a bar and host a number of local community initiatives as well.
Nice spot for breakfast and lunch with lots of local vegan and vegetarian options. The hours seemed to have been cut back recently to close at 5pm, unfortunately, as this used to be a lovely spot for a low key dinner.
Charming, relaxed, organic atmosphere. Delicious local food, big selection of yummy desserts, and nice people. I will definitely be back!!
Yummy food
This place lives up to its name, making you feel both local and at home, with a map of where food is sourced and a decor that emphasizes comfort and coziness.
Split a delicious egg Cheve fresh mushroom scramble. fantastic coffee. love they had honey. the atmosphere is very laid back yet Artful and clean
Ordinary food, service was not very attentive or friendly...won't be going back any time soon as there are better options in the area.
Great food but long wait at lunch.
PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
Best breakfast sandwiches, generous portions, and great service. Definitely don't miss this if you're in Portland!
Good coffee and breakfast food. A variety of seating options from a sofa to high barstools. There was a vibe to the place, a buzz of energy.
Great food and location. order ahead as it usually takes longer then expected. weekends are nice and relaxed and summertime patio out front.
I’ve been coming to this spot for years, and I wanted to leave a good review. The workers are always very friendly and helpful, and the food is amazing. I will say they make a strong cup of coffee so be warned if you’re not used to a lot of caffeine! My favorite thing to get is a vegan Mac and Cheese and a lavender latte! The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and I often see people bringing in their kids. If you’re in the area, stop by!
Fun, quirky, and delicious. A great spot to grab some organic food and hang out. Very friendly and lots of healthy options! Parking is street online and you'll need quarters. The veggie burger is fantastic even if you normally eat meat!
Such a comfortable place to hang out
Was less than thrilled with the food here. I ordered the breakfast burrito that was all scrambled eggs and basically nothing else. My wife had the tofu scramble, which was a little better... but I was just not overly in love with my food there. I’m sure other people have loved their items, but I just didn’t. Had high expectations and they weren’t met.
Amazing vegan menu
Great food, and atmosphere.
Delicious vegan, vegetarian and omni food. Friendly staff. Awesome live music. Best vibes in Maine :) not that I've been to every restaurant in Maine, but it was rad.
For a vegan travelling into town this place is a must. So many options (gotta try the VLT and Vegan Mac with mushrooms), so much local yummy, vegan desserts, and great cocktails. My only complaint was that with so much local beer and booze they were serving bulleit bourbon.
This place was terrific! We were looking for something that had local, organic and vegan options in a laid-back atmosphere. Local Sprouts nailed it from start to finish. The ambience was totally "community" and welcoming, and the food was fantastic. They served my Moon Burger with some quinoa-type "salad" on the side that was out of this world. My boyfriend and I kept looking at each other with big eyes, as in, "Can you believe how delicious this is?" Best part: while we were there, a belly dancing troupe performed. So much fun! I can't wait to go back.
They make a mean BLT.
Fantastic menu with great vegetarian and vegan options. Everything on the menu comes from Maine. Service is quick and the food is great! The vegan mac & cheese is fantastic!!! A few notes for the unfamiliar. You order at the counter and sit where you want. If it's busy, you may have to wait for a seat. Also, it's very informal and the seating can be European style (don't expect to take up a whole table if you are alone). It's very close to the Maine College of Art, so you may encounter some starving artists who are not ordering food, but I think it adds to the ambience and authenticity.
Really great.
Delicious doesn't begin to describe the menu options here!! Awesome atmosphere, kind and courteous staff - an accessible, inviting and wholesome place!
Great vibes and tons of vegan options!
Food was good but slow service and unapologetic staff :/
Great food, with plenty of vegan options and the people are really nice.
I was excited by the idea, but the staff was really grumpy and many of the customers seemed to look down their pretentious noses at me. The baked goods were also pretty lacking.
Great food, very comfortable atmosphere, amazing people :)
Very tasty food, vegan/vege friendly menu. Love the VLT and the Vegan moonburger (and I am not a vegan or vegetarian!)
Extreamly dirty kitchen, (from experience of working there). Vegan food and non vegan not really kept separate. Meat and Tofu cooked on same grill, leaking jucies onto eachother. Gluten free bread toasted on same grill as Non Gluten Free bread. Hmmm.. And the walk in was broken.. so they were just leaving the freezer door open to keep the cooler walk in cold.. Which is gross. FOOD TEMPS MATTER. And they clearly don't accept everybody. Especially people with Aspergers.
Cozy cafe with a heavy social justice warrior vibe. Good drinks and food in a quiet setting.
by jove and great sprouts ive done it!
They were very accommodating to food allergies when we dined there, and that's huge for us.
