This Coffee Shop is included in the category of Cafe.
Just get the almond croissant, you won't be sorry! Best pastry I've ever had. Also tried the cruller, didn't care for it - too oily? But quiche and latte were great.
Get the crullers I think they are called they are so yummy. The staff was super nice. It feels like a Starbucks but for locals with way better food
Everything here is great, but the crullers are truly a transcendent pastry experience. Rich, eggy, and moist with an improbably crispy/chewy exterior and varying icing flavors (try rosemary lemon!). We live an hour away and stop whenever we're nearby.
The food and coffee here are amazing. Lots of great seating and people watching. The food is fresh and made from scratch. The coffee is fresh and warm. There is also vinyl records to pick through...which is awesome.
Great spot for coffee and baked goods. Tasty!
Great cafe to hang out! Great food selected!
Best crueler ever. It’s light and perfectly textured, just the right amount of glaze. We go here pretty often and the crueler is so darn good we haven’t tried much else. You must go here!
The food was very good and the service was good
Your staff needs serious training. I asked multiple times about who the lady was on the free stickers at the register. They could not answer basic questions about when she passed after telling me the place was named after her? In addition, there is a public sign outside your entrance detailing how peoples fingertips are being burned off on the naval base across the street. I hope the principal of whatever schools all these children are from would NOT allow in their lobby. It is pg13 at best. Beware unsuspecting travelling coffee drinkers.
Really good coffee and sandwiches. Try their soups too. I'm picky about espresso and don't like the "New England" dark roast style. They use medium roast for espresso here and very high quality beans. So if you find Starbucks too bitter/dark you would like this place.
Love this place! Always busy but the line goes pretty quick. The crullers are AMAZING and I love their ham and cheese croissant as well. Lovely coffee and espresso drinks and their hot chocolate is thick and creamy.
Great atmosphere and food, friendly staff and...the crullers! Oh, the cruisers! Worth it just for those fine morsels! A little off the highway but this is my go to spot halfway between Boston and Portland. Did I mention the crullers?
I came for the crullers and did not leave disappointed. I tried the original and wish I bought a dozen of them. Since these are more gourmet donuts, be prepared to spend a little over 2 dollars for a donut. My only wish is that I came in earlier in the day when the donuts were still warm!
Good food and great environment.
The pastries are amazing. But the coffee is not, I cannot quite put my finger on it but what should be a gourmet dark roast tastes distinctly off. It may be that it's over roasted or even burnt but it really has the flavor of uncleaned coffee urn's.
One of the best lattes I've ever had. The person taking our order was very kind, and comped our drinks when he heard about our awful night sleeping in a parking lot.
Fire avocado toast!
One of my favorite coffee shops in the seacoast. The food is very good and always fresh.
Everything is amazing all the time!
Their dougnuts I are pure bliss it is busy and wonderful
Great little coffee shop, with amazing pastries
Honest review: Great baked goods but a little pricey like $3 for a donut.
Great coffee, tea & baked goods but very disappointing that the breakfast sandwiches & burritos are not made to order. They get soggy so ask how long they've been sitting around before ordering!
The food and drinks are SO GOOD. Seriously you are missing out if you have not gone. Drop your commercialized coffee shop and go here! Same prices but better food!
Great crullers. Dark roast was excellent.
Excellent coffee. Yummy house made donuts- super fresh!
The absolute best cruellers you'll ever have! And service with a smile!
This place is truly great. Great coffee, really good baked goods, good soups and sandwiches, friendly people. The first time my wife and I were there we failed to order a cruller so the woman behind the counter just gave us one. We had told her it was our first time there, and she said "these are what I guess we're known for, so you should really try one." Honestly that's the best donut I've ever had anywhere, and I've had a lot of donuts, believe me, in all corners of the globe. The only really downside to Lil's, I think, is that it gets busy and there's nothing close to enough sitting, especially since people tend to spend time there. It's nice that they're that welcoming, but it would be great if there was a bit more space.
Phenomenal. Best donuts around! Adding to previous review. its amazing
The food exceeded my expectations. It was fresh and delicious. Prices were very affordable. Great staff too.
Cute cafe with great food. Watch out! The baked goods could be addictive. Those crowlers donut things are so moist on the inside but crunchy on the outside. Scones made the way they should be, just no room in my belly for the biscuits. The bread is incredible so sandwiches are tasty with homemade chips and a crisp pickle. It used to be a bank so check out the vault door! There is a little record shop in side. Eco friendly too.
Every time I visit I have to get a couple of croissants. They're too damn good!
Homey and warm locals spot in Wallingford Square in Kittery. Cruellers and baked goods are to die for! They also have a nice selection of interesting sandwiches with fresh quality ingredients. The seasonal outdoor eating area is perfect and always humming with a friendly crowd of folks. Parking is on the street and difficult so expect to park up the road and walk down.
I live far from kittery, and happened to discover Lil's Cafe a couple of years ago. They have great coffee. Their crullers are so delicious with perfect texture. They pair very well with unsweetened coffee too. I haven't tried other bakery items, but they look attractive to me. The place is clean and near. Some outdoor seating available. Service hasn't been the most impressive, but the quality of food has been great. Located in a beautiful little town with some other small boutique shops and eateries.
Great service, awesome pastries, and delicious coffee. Nice little town environment. Better than any DD or SB.
Located inside a really cool remodeled bank. Nice staff, limited lunch menu and when we arrived at 1:20pm they weren't offering several sandwiches leaving just the BLT and breakfast options are only till 11am. :(
Great service and atmosphere and baked goods. The bread is the big surprise - light and fresh and full of taste.
Coffee was good. My sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was missing the sausage but tasted fine otherwise.
Awesome!!
Off the chart good Woth the price Fresh baked goodness yummmmmy
This place is kinda of a high-end cafe... A bit pricey and the staff can be prickly at times... I can't figure out why. But none of that should distract you from the food and coffee. I have not had bad meal, sandwiches and the soups are quite good good and the desserts are excellent. Try a cruller, you'll love it.
4.5 Great Ice Tea. The nibbles looked fantastic. Fun, funky setting.
I have spent a lot of time in Donut Shops throughout my life, but this place had the best donuts I have ever had, on any road trip, anywhere. The coffee, staff and atmosphere were all ten out of ten, but if you have only one more donut in your whole life, make it from here.
Pastries are worth the trip! Also, great sandwiches and they serve tandem coffee. I don't always care for third wave coffee-- I'd prefer a darker, fuller roast, but they do it well and they care!
Love this place. Staff is very friendly & Sam is the bomb.
Crullers and a bike rack. A match made in heaven for many weekend adventures. I fit this into my morning bike commute, even though I don't live anywhere near Lil's. Seriously, have you tried a classic cruller? You are missing out on life if you left this place without one. Go back immediately. Always friendly service, and even a cool place to grab lunch outside on the picnic tables in nice weather. I suggest an iced tea and a greek salad wrap. And the get your CRULLER.
Their Crullers are amazing. Soft, light, interior. Crispy exterior. Just enough glaze or cinnamon sugar.
Lil's is fantastic. The crullers are the best I've ever had. I usually get the savory toast as well which is avocado on homemade bread with seeds as a topping. So good. But the crullers really make Lil's the best. The coffee is also great.
This is a local gem. Fantastic staff, excellent baked goods and they use tandem coffee which is a Maine roaster. Stop in, grab a cup and get some downtown Kittery flavor.
In the heart of a beautiful tiny town .,was told by A local to keep it a secret
Great place for a quick breakfast and coffee!
My friend and I had the regular glazed cruller donuts which were airy, sweet and delicious! The matcha latte and chai latte were also nice additions. We got there around 8 am on a Saturday and it didn't get too busy until around 8:30/9 am. Bonus: dogs were abundant.
Delicious Crullers and sandwiches. Espresso drinks are also great . Worth a visit!
Cinnamon buns are top notch, great cinnamon flavor with a well baked pastry to back it up. Gruyere and ham croissant was smoky and just right on the salt. Good coffee too! Absolutely worth a stop.
Friendly staff, quick tasty and fresh breakfast wrap, latte with a heart shape created in milk froth on top, and another customer helped me on with my coat (I was dawdling, not incompetent). Restrooms available. I just realized that if it weren't raining, I might have given it five stars, so I'm moving it up.
Best crullers around!! Excellent service, wonderful beverages!
This review is solely based upon the amazing taste, texture and quality of their cruller. Lil’s is a modern, hip and tastefully designed small cafe in downtown Kittery. We came specifically for the cruller (which is really like a churro shaped into a circle) and we were not disappointed. Honestly the best donut I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve had quite a few! The texture was light and fluffy like funnel cake almost, without the oily, guilty feeling. I could have eaten 6 or 7 no problem. I’m sure all of their other baked goods are of equal quality. Everything looked delicious. A must visit place for sure!
Delicious Lattés, very nice welcoming atmosphere, nice stuff and super delicious bakery will certainly comeback
I’d say Lil’s is what holds Kittery Foreside together. As much as I’d like to complain about how busy it always is, I can’t because they are doing so well. From their fresh baked breads, to their pastry’s, when you go, you have to eat a cruller. Their coffee and tea is good. One thing I wish they had was just some plain Jane iced coffee. They have cold brew which is good, but a little strong for my liking.
Excellent bakery with cozy seating
The best crullers I've had, easily. The almond croissants are my favorites. If you haven't been, you need to go.
Workers are always friendly! The cookies that arrive after the breakfast rush are delicious. But breakfast options get repetitive. I think the lunch is actually better than breakfast!
We actually went to Maine Squeeze but decided to visit Lil's for a coffee!!
Waited 18 minutes for a tea and watched 3 queues order receive and leave. No communication with customers about order after placed. Food ordered was just left on counter with no communication or marking and I ended up having to ask for my tea and was treated like I was an impatient nuisance. I just watched just about 20 other people fly through here.... I asked for just a tea no special requests....
Dropped in and ordered eggs, bacon, and croissants. It was fantastic. I would highly recommend this meal as the croissants were flaky and toasted.
Very cute cafe and amazing baked goods!
This is not the place to go if you are gluten free. The woman behind the counter assured me that the granola bar she suggested I could eat was gluten free. Half way through eating it, I started to get sick. Turns out the granola bar was NOT gluten free. The staff did NOT offer to refund my money or help out in any way. Just an FYI: human beginnings do not have the ability to digest gluten even those without true intolerance or celiac disease. At Lil's Cafe you can get your cup of Joe and a bit of inflammation eating here. Sad but true given the hybridization of wheat in our country.
The cruellers are amazing, they're kinda like Doughboys
Very nice stop
Known for their cruller, plenty of pastry options. Great seasonal drinks. While a long line, the service is quick and the line moves quickly.
What a nice little spot. The baked goods are second to none. It's also a cyclist haven. I counted no less than fifteen bikes on a Sunday morning. Very trendy too.
A warm and inviting cafe with a friendly staff and great food and beverages. You can't go there and not have a cruller!
This is one of my favorite cafes in the Kittery/Portsmouth area. The baked goods, sandwiches and coffee are excellent! The staff are always friendly. During the warmer months there is seating both outside and inside. Parking is usually easy, even during the summer months. Close to some other excellent places to eat and shop.
The orange clove crueler was delicious. My companions also enjoyed their peppermint crueler. Melt in your mouth scrumptiousness!
Best cruellers ever
Great place for coffee and breakfast near Portsmouth Naval Yard. I love the baked goods.
I’d heard this place had crullers (on Instagram) and that’s what i came to get. The crullers were delicious and met my high expectation. Would definitely come back and recommend.
This is a great place to get a tea latte; lavendar, matcha, or rose. If you are looking for a good donut, you MUST get a cruller. They are excellent!
Oh god... the crullers... in Kittery Fireside. Incredible.
Amazing cruller and breakfast sandwich! Coffee was bland though. Great location and atmosphere.
Always delicious fresh pastries - we love their crullers and all the different flavors they make. Our favorites are lemon, maple, and peanut butter. You never know what their flavor of the day is going to be. They always have their regular crullers, which are always delicious.
Best iced coffee around. Don't forget to check out the vinyl section in the back
Pastry’s are very well done! Latte art on point and taste was excellent. Properly steamed milk, the espresso was complex and pulled correctly. Beautiful sitting outside on the patio surrounded by plants.
They have the most amazing crullers - baked fresh all morning - start with a plain one then try some of their special flavors. Great breakfast sandwiches and some daily soup specials. Very bike friendly and outdoor seating makes this a great stop during a coastal ride. Free street parking - can be tough on weekends - just be willing to walk a little bit.
Very hectic atmosphere. The people in line were standing around the tables where people are trying to eat. Biscuit sandwich very good. Sausage wrap was bland (needed seasoning). The almond croissant and donut were excellent.
This place is GREAT! The original glazed is delicious and there iced chai tea latte has a fantastic spicy chai flavor. The chocolate chip cookie was also soft and really tasty. The staff was also really nice and friendly.
De-lish donuts!
Just went there for the first time and the guy at the register was pretty rude to me and my sister. We are both servers so it was pretty disappointing to get such poor customer service. Other than that it's a cute little place and the food was pretty good.
I come here quite a bit when I’m in town. Their coffee and lattes are pretty solid. Make sure to get a cruller as well. They are a staple to people in this area. I’ve managed to find a table sometimes and I can easily do some work and not be bothered. I will continue coming here anytime I’m back in this neck of the woods
Amazing Crullers!
Coffee is great and the south Western wrap was delicious
Always love the crullers and a cortado
Really good baked goods. Cozy environment. Coffee is okay, not a fan. The deal breaker for me was the poor ventilation. Stay in there for 30 minutes and your clothes, bags, etc will need to be washed.
Best crullers. A must try
Lil’s makes the best doughtnuts that I’ve ever had - we wish that they could ship them across the country. The staff is very friendly. Definitely a highlight in the southern Maine/Portsmouth area.
Just ok
Coffee was really good, egg souffle sandwiches were tasty. Pastry selection was extensive and chocolate peanut butter creuller was my jam
Crullers! A Must try! So bomb! Both the cinnamon sugar and glazed ones are good but my favorite was definitely the glazed.
The grilled cheese with bacon and avocado was great. Best crullers as
This awesome little coffee shop is located in an old bank where the vault has been converted to a "Vinyl Vault". They have some great coffee and pastries to match. Their sandwiches are also delicious. The Vinyl Vault also has records for sale at very fair prices.
Just had an oat milk cappacino and it was heavenly. The avo toast is also the best here. All their take away containers are commercially compostable.
Delicious crullers. Great coffee and quick service.
Great breakfast foods and snacks to pair with a cup of coffee.
Must have the crueller.... i heard a friend say it was the best thing he ever had in his mouth.... yeah! Great service too!!!
Great coffee shop! The drinks are great and the pastries and sandwiches are delicious.
The donuts are always wonderful ...and every other culinary creation is amazing. I wish the server would be happier...but that's complicated.
Amazing donuts!
A great spot in Kittery to stop for a breakfast sandwich + cruller. The biscuit breakfast sandwich is one of my favorites.
O M G. The crullers.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. The best matcha green tea latte * without sweetener on earth. The best almond croissant on earth. Head over the bridge from Portsmouth NH and give Maine some of your money
Amazing almond croissant! Excellent pastries
What's not to love.
Great little spot. Excellent dark coffee. I enjoyed the Scrapple wrap. The lemon cruller was unbelievably good!
Best blueberry muffins anywhere. Wonderful atmosphere, an all around great place to meet friends for coffee.
Amazing cruellers!
On a cold rainy day I had a tasty tomato soup and a delicious sandwich. Perfect!
Omg the crullers are just crazy good. Staff is very nice, calm, easy going. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a good coffee and pastrie. The inside design is very nice too.
WOW. Recommended by a local artist gallery employee, Susan. Arrived minutes before everyone else. Absolutely delicious. French cruller, seeded avocado toast, sunflower scone. Superb coffee. If only I lived here I would take some home! Good start for a beautiful day.
A local favorite with delicious breakfast pastries/sandwiches along with tasty cafe beverages.
A must go. The only problem is choosing as every thing is amazing!!
Tasty selection of sandwiches, toasts, and breakfasts. Friendly staff, but could use more seating.
Delicious donuts and coffee. The breakfast sandwiches are tasty too. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Lil's is a must for anyone who loves great pastries and breads.i stop there twice a week. If I didn't live so far,I probably would go 4 or 5 times a week.
Really friendly staff, delicious bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and such good coffee. Oh, and the comforting, so clearly home made pastries!
Great pastries
Nice place for coffee and a very unique approach to coffee shop. Use to be a bank.
Nice place to shop, crullers are the best thing here but a little bit to pricey and too sweet for my taste.
Had a lovely lunch with my daughter, Emily, consisting of a half sandwich and a half salad. Wonderful!
Some of the best baked goods I've ever had in my entire life. Seriously, their almond croissant and the cruller are both gift-worthy pastries, and the stuff of dreams for food-lovers. The venue itself is gorgeous too, with lots of light, brick, and modern furniture. It only loses a star, and in fact causes me to hardly ever go, because I find their drip-coffee utterly repellent. It's roasted by Time + Temperature, which I find ironically named, because I fear they get both wrong. The drip-coffee & iced is straight-up awful. I've heard the espresso is passable/acceptable, but I've not tried it myself. If they went with another coffee supplier, I'd be here all the time, because literally every other aspect of the business is tremendous. They even do tasty sandwiches, and have a ton of outside seating in the warmer months. So close to perfect, yet so far away too. TLDR: 3 stars overall. Food, decor, service = 5 stars, but coffee = 1 star :/
Amazing chocolate chip cookies with sea salt... and they always have fresh lemons... since I only drink hot lemon water, it's all I ask for in life! Lil's Rocks :)
Everything we tried was delicious-crullers, cookies, an almond croissant and particularly the LA Burdicks drinking chocolate
The blueberry muffins are amazing!
Always a pleasant experience.
My wife and I stopped in after hearing great things about their donuts. The donuts themselves were very good. The breakfast sandwiches, however, were pre-made and lukewarm. The cold-brew iced coffee was the worst I have ever tasted. Our total, for 2 breakfast sandwiches, 2 iced coffees, and 2 donuts was $27.xx + tip. I don't really understand all of the positive reviews, but I'm definitely not going back to figure it out.
Amazing atmosphere and menu! Loved the cruller and the tea was delicious! Also the vault gives it a retro touch that puts a cherry on top.
Crullers are, as other reviews mention, great. Five stars for that alone. Line was long Sunday morning, but moved fast. Great local place.
Amazing. Everything is so fresh and so thoughtfully prepared. Must try the matcha! Customer service so warm and welcoming
Wonderful little cafe serving coffee and small sandwiches as well as pastries. Great staff and cozy environment make this a local favorite.
Came all the way from Brooklyn, NY to eat a crulle . Well worth it !!
Most amazing donuts and baked goods..had the cinnamon and sugar crawlers and quiche..coffee was great..beautiful cafe inside and out. Cute little town and the staff was so helpful and friendly..can’t wait to get back there for the donuts! Worth every penny if in the area.
For my sons Birthday we decided to hit up every doughnut shop from kittery to Portland to find the best fried dough. Thankfully this was our first and last experience at this place. The lady that waited on us was very rude I thought with a hippy vibe they would be alot more friendlier the doughnut was ok... it wasnt in the top 10 of our trip tasted strongly like old fryer oil.
Great donuts and cappuccinos. Very hospitable.
Like my sandwich just wish to see friendlier employees!
They pretty much make the best latte I've had in Maine. It's ridiculously good.
Are you driving in to Maine early in the morning, looking for the place that has the best coffee and crullers where all the locals go? Lil’s is what you’re looking for!! Quick get off the highway, venture in to Kittery’s tiny little Foreside community, park the car and relax at Lil’s with a delicious coffee, cruller, and great service!
Omg! We drive for three hours before stopping at Lil’s on our way to Massachusetts. Quiche is to die for, just like my absolute favorite - croissant/donut mmmmm
Lil's is one of my favorite's in Kittery. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. I swoon for the egg/Cheese biscuit sandwich.
I am of the opinion that any place that sells sweets, you know, cupcakes, donuts, ice cream, should have at least a semi-sweet staff. Well after months of drooling over their IG posts, I finally dragged my family here from Boston. Our first interaction was with a woman with a short boy cut hair-do. I know they have daily bakery specials but when I asked she acted like I was nuts. She looked at us with almost no expression. An emotionless, cold, expression. It was so uncomfortable. Kind of eerie, too. So we ordered then went out and munched on our crullers. They were good, but we wanted to get a sandwich now and more crullers for the road. I refused to go back in because I did not want my 4th of July long drive to Lil's be even more disappointing. When I went in to use the restroom (which is pretty awful. The one downstairs is even worse!), I noticed there was another person now helping customers. So, we went back and ordered more stuff and sat inside this time. This woman was very nice and broke a smile multiple times. The reason we sat inside is because the smoke from the pizza place across the street was very strong and smoke inhalation was not what we were going for! Now, the crullers are very good. Not too sweet, crisp exterior and airy inside texture, addictive. I did get a bit of an oil taste I disliked, though. Hey, I can check this one off my list.
The best pastries I have had in several years. Popular and delicious.
The crueller donuts are quite literally the best baked goods I've ever had
Get an awesome blueberry muffin. That is, if you can resist the crullers.
Best donuts!
In the morning, we stopped in at Lil’s Cafe in downtown Kittery. Though it lacks the size and historic atmosphere of Portsmouth, this small main street has a bunch of great restaurants and still manages to feel active and alive. Lil’s has great coffee and probably the best almond croissants in the world, no joke. The lines out the door concur with this assessment.
Tandem coffee, awesome service, delicious food, and cool ambiance. Indoor and outdoor seating.
I visited Lils for the first time and fell in love with the atmosphere and friendly staff. The baguettes and pastries are fantastic. Definitely will be back again soon!
Great tiny jewel place! Thanks for the Matcha almond latte creamy as i expected
Buy the crullers by the box, you won't regret it.
Good food. Great donuts.
