This Coffee Shop is classified in the category of Coffee shop.
What more can I say then the coffee is superb. Bard coffee is well known for their excellent beans and pour over preparations. They also have a wide variety of Bakery Goods like croissants and cookies. They get these items from some of the best local sources in Portland. You really can't go wrong with anything here. The only negative which I can find, and frankly doesn't affect my rating, is that you can never really find a seat. If you want to sit down and drink your coffee you'll need to come in, in the off times.
Hard to get on wifi, bad cappuccino, need draps to sit in the front, over priced
Yeah good.
Excellent coffee!
Friendly place. Great staff. Awesome coffee and pastries. Good place to sit and study, for a bit. Nice atmosphere.
Had one of the best lattes I've ever had at Bard. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Portland.
Fantastic coffee in a bright, well-lit space. There's plenty of seating to meet a friend and long, bar-style seating against the back wall with outlets to work (if needed). There's usually a line because the coffee and espresso are such high quality, but it moves quickly!
Probably the best Chai Latte I've had ever.
Made the coffee cafe rounds while on a three day visit to Portland and Bard was the best brew in town. Visited the cafe three times. The cafe has a contemporary, comfortable style, no problem finding a seat. and the Lattes had a consistent smooth rich flavor.
Great cappucino! Cool froth design!
Staff wasn't overly kind or welcoming but they were polite. Service was pretty fast, and I got a chai with chocolate which was super yummy.
Great location, really good coffee. Fine espresso, nice and strong, not too bitter
I've been to every coffe shop in Portland and this is my least favorite. The product was great but service was awful. The employees should treat there customers better. Service has a lot to do with your time at any place that serves food and drink.
I've been to Bard a number of times. I find that the space can be, and often is, quite packed and the vibe leans mostly in the hipster-y direction. The coffee is good but doesn't carry the hype for me.
Great spot to grab a coffee. The cold brew is fantastic. This spot is great for coffee fans. The atmosphere is nice and a great spot to get work done
Such a treat for me to go to this nice coffee shop. It's charming and usually pulls a crowd.
I loved the coffee here - a really fruity roast. The staff were pretty friendly but the selection of cakes and pastries was disappointing.
Atmosphere was nice, and it's very apparent they love their coffee. The espresso drinks (cappuccino) was just pretty good, but it was far from the best I've had in the city. Again, i think their real passion is coffee it seems.
Probably the best nitro cold brew in the country. I love this coffee shop.
Girl at the front counter taking orders (she was wearing an aloha shirt). Very friendly even though our interaction was short ☺️ I ordered an Iced Chai. Very creamy & made quickly. I feel like it could have been shaken more because a lot of it was at the bottom. The interior was hip & warm
Quick service, sweet workers, and great atmosphere! I got the almond milk latte and it was delicious!
Bard is my favorite coffee shop of all time. Absolute best (and consistent) iced and hot mochas all year long. Bard has great seating, outlets and wifi and it's been my go to place for studying and work. Employees at Bard are always welcoming and accommodating. I honestly don't know what I'd do without Bard coffee.
We love this place. It's always our first stop in Portland and we're there each morning for coffees.
A very nice Coffee shop in a peaceful setting. The wifi is fast and they have plenty of table space. I found the staff super friendly and serves was fast. I am a people watch so I really enjoy the street views. I had some tea and a piece of peach cobbler that was top notch.
Great drinks and service!
Friendly people, great coffee, Local Sprouts baked goods equals a wonderful coffee shop.
Great hand crafted coffee and service. Served in an eclectic local vibe. Prices are reasonable for hand crafted coffee with a wide variety ranging from Cold Brew to Vietnamese coffee.
The nitro cold brew is one of the best cold coffees I've ever had. The regular cold brew is very delicious, too, but the nitro adds a smooth texture that is amazing. Try it black! I'm so glad I found this place! Definitely will be back.
Best cup of coffee I've had in Portland so far, blew tandem and coffee by design out of the water in terms of flavor and body. Nice little shop in the modern style, everyone behind the counter is super nice and pleasant, like they enjoy being there instead of forced to be there. Quickly becoming my go-to place for a good cup of coffee!
The coffee was good, but the environment is a little stuffy.
Delicious hand processed and true love of coffee masters. Local business and way better than a Starbucks across the street
Bard Coffee is quaint and cozy, and their delectable food and drink is pretty good typical boutique coffee shop stuff. I do like Bard, and I would go more often if it weren't so crowded. It's been hard to find a seat inside for a few years now, and I'd rather go to a nearby coffee shop where there's room for me and my little laptop. But if you're walking by and want a Starbucks alternative, Bard Coffee is great for on-the-go!
This is a cute coffee place in a convenient location in Portland. It was a great place to meet with a friend and chat!
The most unfriendly cafe in Portland. I've been twice recently, and both times rather than being greeted with a "Hello" or some other variant, a smile, or any other cordial welcome, I was met with an annoyed expression (by two different employees). No eye contact while ordering, and upon receiving the drink, my "Thank you" went ignored, again both times. Apparently I am not their preferred clientele, and they are practicing not-so-subtle discrimination.
Best coffee I've ever had (in Portland)! I have so many good memories about this place, people I've met there and the time I spent with my father there, after our very first road trip to Maine... I love the bucolic atmosphere, the always friendly staff (which might not be the same, since my last time there was in 2004!) and the delicious coffee (first time I ever had a cold brew - and I'm from Brazil!)... Walking through Old Port and not stopping there for a coffee feels like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope! ;)
Overall a good exp.
Really really nice spot. Really cute. Large array of hip coffee choices including pour over and cold brew. They have a delicious iced chai.
Still pretty good
Good coffee in a cool little shop. Must be a favorite in Old Port because the place was hopping on a Tuesday afternoon. Large selection of coffees and ours was very good.
Loved their masala tea
Good coffee not very friendly.
Super tasty coffee.. great price..
I love this little coffee shop. It smelled great and was very welcoming. I had the green jasmine tea recommended by the barista it was perfect just what I wanted.
Nice and cozy coffee shop that serves great options! We had a pour over Ethiopian and boy was that good!
This has become my new go to place for coffee. This place has a very welcoming atmosphere and the coffees are amazing a long with their pastries.
Great atmosphere. Friendly people. Great to do work in.
Beautiful coffee shop. Very clean decor. Smiling baristas, who seem very genuine. Very accessible location. But, parking could be an issue. What about the coffee. Well, it was good. The atmosphere was more of business meeting vibe. So, not exactly a place to go for a relaxing break.
Pros: Really incredible coffee quality. Espresso and milk quality were excellent. Colombian pour over was tasty too. Cafe was really clean and they were making an effort to keep it clean. Pastry items tasted good too. Cons: Customer service was pretty decent. Could be way better (more personable). They were kind of cold. Wait time for drinks was way too long! I waited 10 minutes for a cortado. Only one person working bar. Weird due to how busy this cafe is. Overall: Go for good coffee and decent service. Expect to wait for drink and enjoy it in a clean environment.
delicious coffee! really enjoyed the taste of it
Bard has such a wonderful open space to sit and have a moment of quiet with a nice cup of coffee. I love their Thai iced coffee- my special treat! The renovations added many nice tables to bring your laptop and work.
I believe the staff makes or breaks a coffee shop. The best coffee in the world could be served by stuckup, impatient baristas, while the worst coffee...is still pretty bad coffee even when served by great people. Luckily, The Bard couples great coffee with great service. My wife and I were unexpectedly welcomed at the door from across the cafe by a warm "Welcome! Hope you're doing well today!" Traveling up from Boston, this is more hospitality than I get in a year. My wife got a white/green tea combo and loved it. Seems like most of Portland understands the greatness of this shop, as it was constantly packed, though we did manage to find some seats! We plan to come back for the almond milk horchata!
Much better than Folger's
Staff laughed at me when I was asking what stuff was. Not my cup of tea (coffee).
Excellent roast, and perfectly executed macchiato. Also the best Vietnamese iced I've ever had...
Good coffee, not many options for snacks or breakfast. Nice place to sit for a while
Bard Coffee is a nice cafe. My wife and I came in for a quick latte and, despite the place being pretty crowded, we're able to find window seats. While there, I noticed that there was a pretty constant flux of people coming and going, but that it stayed fairly full of people. Service was polite and efficient and the coffee was tasty.
Nitro cold brew it's amazing on a hot day.
Cute ambiance, with lots of coffee options. Staff very nice and pleasant. Not much seating offered.
Excellent latte!
One of my absolute favorite coffee places in Portland. Try the turmeric ginger latte...sublime.
#SmallThanks I go to Bard at least once a week if not more for a latte. The coffee is great, the atmosphere is awesome and the staff is always friendly and look like they have a good time. Cannot recommend this place enough.
The real deal! Attention to detail, high-quality coffee, demonstrated by doing pour overs with a smile. Knowledgeable and friendly baristas. Great location
I really like Bard! Cute and clean atmosphere with a nice view of the street for some quality people watching. The breakfast pastries are big and tasty!
Get a donut from (the Holy donut) just down the street and get coffee from here. A delightful treat for a midday indulgence. I got the vanilla latte paired with the dark chocolate sea salt donut. No regrets!
Good loose teas. Good cappuccino. Popular. Indie.
Awesome coffee and great service!
Really really good coffee.
Great ambiance and reasonably priced coffee and snacks. The tables are a good size to work at and the internet is good. Quiet enough to stay focused!
If you want the best chai in town come here. This place is very queer friendly and has a chill atmosphere.
Love this coffee shop.
The coffee was good and we enjoyed this place. Wish we had stopped here the days prior since it was our favorite of the trip. Park right outside is very nice as well and a good spot to sit and relax with your coffee or food.
Great coffee and great service
Great coffee, great pastries and muffins, beautiful atmosphere. You can support local artists as well with a myriad of unique hand made goods to purchase.
The barista is a craftsman! Favorite coffee of all in Portland.
Love it! Words aren't enough!
Great customer service and the people are really nice
My latte was beautiful and delicious. It was well made. Barista was friendly. They have plenty of tables available. They have a bathroom but you need a key. The shop was nicely decorated with lots of open space.
Great cold brew! I bought a book down the street and came here to read and do a little work too and it was the perfect place for both.
Espresso and cold brew both excellent.
Super tasty. Gotta love those locally owned rosters. They brew and sell single origin roasts, which are probably the smoothest I have tried in Portland proper. You can order any number of coffee or tea drinks, which are all tops. A black coffee here does not need to be drowned in dairy (or non dairy, of which there are plenty of options)to be palatable. In fact, don't. This place looms large over the corporate mermaid across the street, that's for certain.
Everyone was super nice. Very homey space!
Got a free coffee
Beautiful interior. Good location with plenty surrounding places to explore. Smooth, creamy cortado and friendly baristas.
Excellent coffee shop a few blocks up from Commercial Street. The cortado I ordered was made with care and had bright flavors. Nice atmosphere -- so many coffee shops have loud retail drink coolers in the waiting or seating areas, and those are absent here!
Favorite coffee shop in Portland, Maine!
great coffee..
The coffee that they serve here is worth every penny. Great place to visit if you need a break from the office.
BARD Coffee is wonderful, really that's all there is to it. I could say more. I will say more. Just a few things. First, the coffee is delicious, and, WELL PRICED!!! Second, BARD is OPEN when you need, want, or crave some java. Third, they remember you! Expanded: The coffee really is delicious. If you're being honest, how many cups of terrible coffee are you going to continue to buy before you commit to being a loyal BARD customer? It's always good there. Maybe it's pride of craft, the quality of the beans, water, etc. Maybe they actually measure proper amounts of grounds and water! But it's GOOD HONEST coffee; better than By Design, Cia Cafe, Arabica, and others. And they discount your cup if you bring a mug. That's the way it should be! (I am looking at you Cia Cafe!) Not to mention, I am happier to tip on a discount, especially when we are both honestly doing something to help the environment. And like I said, this coffee shop is, wait for it, OPEN for business. 6AM Monday through Friday, and they close at 7PM. Some of us, probably most of us, love Portland for it's close knit landscape. We wake up, and work is just a few minutes away. So, rather than go through the hassle of making coffee (and wasting coffee) we make the effort to head out of the house a little early. BARD is open the earliest in the city. That's it that's all. They know they are serving the life blood of the early morning community, and they do their best to cater to people.. who DRINK COFFEE. Crazy, crazy stuff, I know. Finally, they remember you (after a while). They have a healthy staff, so you may see someone different from day to day, but after a few visits they actually warm up to you and start to predict your needs. I am speaking for myself, but I really appreciate that. It's a two way street ultimately, and they appreciate a smile and greeting from you as much as the other way around. They also offer loyalty coupons. Thank you to the team at BARD Coffee! See you.. tomorrow at 6:30AM? (:
A perfect coffee shop. Such a modern ambiance and a stunning accent wall. Excellent coffee, shop has great city view. 100% recommend.
Best coffee in the city. Cant understand why anyone goes to the starbucks across the street!
Favorite cafe in Portland. Love the iced chai!
Great coffee and cool atmosphere. It can be packed at times but most small coffee shops are like that. Go here over Starbucks. They serve Nitro and other speciality coffees and they are all quite good. There is a neat little park next door.
Great coffee, great prices. Atmosphere is calm and friendly. A must see in Portland if you need caffiene and don't want to spend $6.
Capuccino and service both great. Long wait for the bathroom, which was less great.
In the heart of Portlands Old Port. Excellent coffee and location.
Great drinks. Can get crowded during summer, but it is nice to get a drink and sit in the park right outside.
The best coffee shop in Portland's Old Port. Incredible staff, they are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Would recommend going here over any other coffee shop in the Old Port. Great space to work, hang out and read, or just for a quick stop. Outdoor seating available in the summer months. Large open space with great natural light.
Extremely good coffee, great location, nice assortment of pastries to choose from.
This is a great place to work, people watch, eavesdrop on fascinating, intelligent conversations or just enjoy a high quality cup of coffee and/or a pastry. I mostly get the decaf pour over but have enjoyed a latte or mocha there as well.
Great coffee, nice atmosphere, both tables and a bar by the window for sitting, and good service. Everything you need in a good coffee shop.
Consistency and quality coffee is the real reason why I love this place so much. I can always count on my drink to be good. Also, I would say they have a drink for everyone. If you drink your coffee black, iced, super sweet, extra milk, tea, decaf, oat milk, whole milk, you name it... I think they have something for you.
Excellent place to have your chosen brew from an array of flavors & taste.
Careful, high quality coffee and snacks. This place is usually abuzz with conversations and people working on their laptops - more of the "writing my next novel" type than the harried nursing student studying for hours on end crowd.
Best coffee in town.
Delicious coffee served by nice people! Also enjoyed a fabulous brownie.
Great service. Nice ambiance. But after all the hype I expected the coffee to be better. My short americano was a little watery and lacked depth. Personally, I preferred Arabica around the corner.
This place is the real deal by way of setting, service and product. Great selection! Bought a bag of coffee, before traveling to Mount Desert Island for the week, and had them grind it for me. Loved their coffee!
Good coffee defintely the best in midcoast. Good size tables for reading and laptop, fast wireless. Place is a nice space to read and study, nice atmosphere and attractive airy space. Thankfully the music is not blaring. It can get a little loud when it gets busy so bring ear phones or ear plugs. Love it here.
Excellent coffee and with a serious variety in selection. Friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. I also had a really great savory pastry here. If you’re looking for solid non-chain restaurant coffee this place is a good stop.
Good strong and aromatic coffee
Best coffee shop in Portland and i've tried them all!
Lots of seating and quick service. Good quality coffees fixed how you like. Had an iced black coffee of the day, a cappuccino and a lemonade. Recommend.
Meh. Ritzy, plane Jane inside. Lots of choices. They focus on simplification. I get that, girl taking order seemed to be new, very unsure of what I was ordering... Ill give another chance next time I'm around. I own a chain of coffee shops in CT. I hate giving bad reviews. Not bad tho
Great service. Snacks were good. Coffee was hot. Service was ok. It was clean. Need the key to use the bathroom. Needed a refill-- I'd like better service walking around cleaning up, and refilling coffee for more of a cafe feeling.
Heard lots about this place before i came to Portland, so i made it my first stop. I was not disappointed in the slightest. My barista pulled a wonderful shot of espresso for me. I will definitely be returning in the near future!
Baristas are friendly, music and atmosphere are really good for studying or working, but the COFFEE is bad. I think they use Wicked Joe’s beans, and the flavor is just awful. No floral notes at all.
Best coffee in town by far. A league above the Starbucks across the street.
Love it
Quickly became my favorite coffee shop in Portland ME. After trying them all, this one stood out to me for both its outstanding espressos and coffees. Typically, I like one or the other at a coffee shop, but they both were amazing! Love all the non dairy options too
Just coffee.
One of the best lattes I’ve ever had, ever.
Maybe we just went on an off day, but the service was not friendly or quick. I only give it 2 stars because the coffee was decent (not the best, but not a terrible cup of coffee either) and the establishment was clean. We wouldn't return with so many other local options to choose from.
Best latte in Portland in my opinion.
Love the nitro cold brew they have on tap. Great place to buy coffee beans for home use as well. Bard is a very skilled roaster and coffee house.
This is a very quiet and relaxing place in the middle of the city. Very cozy and nice staff.
I love coffee. They are one of the best cafes in Portland
Great pour overs, baked goods, and some amazing chai. The place is an awesome spot to sit and just be, or grab a great drink and head out. I like the openness of the space too. A definite stop whenever you're in the city
Awesome local coffee shop; staff was friendly & very knowledgeable. Would stop here agaon if I find myself back in Portland.
Great coffee and great service with a smile... A+
Top notch coffee!
Literally my new favorite place for coffee. Their iced chai is perfectly milky and delicious, though I'm obsessed with the iced vietnamese coffee! I'm so glad I work down the street and can enjoy Bard as a special treat. The prices and service are equal if not better to Starbucks.
Had a fantastic kalita pour over, excellent service and shop.
Iced java chip pretty pretty good.
Nitro brew can’t be missed. More well-rounded and robust flavor than rival Tandem coffee. Lots of space to post up with laptop.
There is a tier of coffee that is at the top, and the barista that made our lattes is there - excellent.
Great coffee. A variety of beans that really offers something for everybody's taste.
Love Bard! We don’t even live in Maine and I keep a stamp card for whenever I’m in town. If you want coffee made right, go to Bard.
I just finished what may be the best oat milk cappuccino I’ve ever had!!
Cool and delish
Way over priced Java!
OMG! The best Chai Latte with oat milk - it was unbelievable!! Great wallpaper too!
Great tasting coffee in cool mugs
The place is fairly large. Very clean. Lots of sitting area. Coffee was amazing, made by some of the friendliest staff ever. When we're back in town, this is our coffee joint!
Nice place. Good coffee. Perhaps an extra restroom won't hurt
Dark roast’s are precarious. There’s a fine line between being thorough and burning the coffee. Many roasters understandably aim just shy of that line and serve a medium dark cup that maintains a certain level of acidity. If that’s what you like, great - but if you’re looking for a true dark roast, they do it right at Bard. I tried Coffee By Design, and Tandem. Both were great businesses, with thoughtful spaces: Bard just has a better dark roast. I can’t speak to the light-medium, but here in Portland, this is coffee the way I like it.
Excellence in coffee and experience. True passion for the craft by baristas.
Good coffee, GREAT brownie, fantastic toilet. 5/5, would go again.
Coffee is soooo good!
If you are a coffee lover, this is definitely a must visit place. They have a good selection of grains and a couple of dripping methods. I recommend the Chemex
The coffee at Bard was honestly as good if not better than my favorite shops in Seattle or Brooklyn. The space is large and nice and bright and has plenty of seating. The staff is super friendly and pretty quick. The nitro cold brew is smooth, creamy, and delightful. It's definitely an iced coffee you sip and enjoy rather than suck down. It's a great place to either sit and enjoy or close enough to downtown and the water to head down to the water for a nice view and relax. And they even have a couple of outdoor tables for nice days and enjoying your drink with your dog.
Great selection. Friendly service. Nice place with a cool vibe. I enjoyed their coffee of the day and it was delicious. Would visit again when in the area.
Bard is amazing guy!
Best coffee in Portland! We've spent 2 separate weekend getaways in Portland, and each time Bard is a must stop. Service is super friendly and there is a seating area with tables
If you are looking for an outstanding espresso, with a traditional flavour profile, Bard of your spot. If you prefer brighter, more fruited cups, try speckled ax or tandem
Best coffee shop, Best Baristas, get a nitro cold brew and chilllllllllll
I had the Ethiopian pour over. Easily one of the best brews I have ever had. Top 5 all time.
Nice coffee shop but the coffee could have been better
Good coffee. Always busy
