REVIEWS OF Artemisia Cafe IN Maine

Portland appears to be Brunch City, and this is the jewel in the crown. We went here twice on our five-day trip, and would have gone again if they were open on Sundays. The star of the show are their breads, which they make, but to chalk it all up to that would be to grossly undersell this place. The food is simply awesome. The service is always friendly and efficient, as well. Expect lines, though they move quickly. Don't skip the pastries, either. That would be an entirely unnecessary regret. And the amazing thing is, this place isn't even expensive.

One of my favorites in Portland. The food is always amazing. I've had the Impossible Burger at several locations and Artemisia kills it EVERY time. It's cooked to perfection and has so much flavor. Love this place. ❤️

Sue CRAWFORD

Quaint, different food, great service, all at reasonable prices.

Found this amazing little place on Pleasant St. when staying at the Holiday Inn. At first it seemed a bit stuffy maybe not my scene but soon realized it did not matter. The food was absolutely spectacular. So many flavors bursting in my mouth. Very very happy. Heather the night manager gave us exceptional service ,she was so friendly, bringing us a small appetizer on the house before our meal. I would certainly recommend it to everyone .

Artemisia Cafe was a great brunch spot. Meg, the hostess, seated us after a 35 minute wait on a Sunday morning/afternoon (it's a very popular restaurant). Jen, our waitess who did a great French accent, was very helpful and patient as we tried to decide what to eat. Our party of three finally chose three different Benedicts to eat: I chose the Oeufs en Meurette, and my friends got the Sardou and the Florentine. Everything was beautiful and delicious. I highly recommend this brunch spot in Portland, Maine!

One of the best hash and French toast I've ever had. It's a very small place and gets very crowded, at least on Sunday when we went.

Such a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of restaurants now a days. Cozy, casual, and delicious food made from scratch. Great wine list to pair with your meal and a changing menu to keep it new and fun.

We had the loveliest breakfast here, the environment is so welcoming and homey with all of the cascading plants. The food was superb and I would love to return to try other options. We both got omelettes, but the Bennie's looked amazing as well!! Pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian options available at this lovely and delicious cafe.

Excellent breakfast. Great coffee. Lots of Benedict’s. Great beads and lots of selections. Small place but very pleasant interior. Highly recommended.

We arrived at 12:45 on a weekday. The place was full. The hostess said it would be "about ten minutes" until we got a table. We waited at the bar; nobody asked us if we wanted any coffee or tea while we waited. Finally, after exactly 35 minutes, we were seated. Right after that, another couple came in and were seated immediately, since by then the place was clearing out. The waitress went over to them first and gave them water. She then continued to service the other customers who wee already eating-- with coffee, desserts, their checks, etc. We were ignored. It was 45 minutes after our arrival that we placed our order. The restaurant was completely empty when we finally got our lunch, about five minutes after the couple who had come in after us. There was one waitress and one hostess, both of whom were oblivious, certainly to us but also to others. I will never return.

Great food and coffee. The staff was so kind. The only downside is you will have to wait, but it's worth it.

Excellent food, with a changing and varied menu. Family owned and operated, delicious with wonderful service. Interesting atmosphere but good for a date. Moderately priced. BYOB!

Marcellin Kopandru

This place was underwhelming. The salad was okay. There were some tired/wilted leafs, the dressing was probably store-bought. I wasn't impressed. I could have made that salad at home. However, the tomato soup was dynamite. Tasty, warm, with layers of complexity, well seasoned. I want that tomato soup recipe. It was delicious! The service was fast, and exceptional!

This restaurant had the following amenities; a bathroom, 1 large kitchen with a range top, a dishwasher, white plates, sturdy silverware, napkins, ketchup, Cholula, salt and pepper, and clean glassware. Additionally, the variety of plants seemed to enhance the oxygen supplied inside the dining room area. All of the plants seemed to be well watered and tended to. Our server displayed strong cognitive ability by being able to divide our bill into four and deliver the correct food to the right person. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you require silverware when dining and enjoy live plants that are humanely managed.

Cozy cafe out of the way, but well worth seeking it out. The location is actually very convenient to downtown Portland, it's just on a less travelled street. Fresh menu with something for everyone. A favorite for when friends want to get together for lunch.

I was debating where to take my parents out for dinner tonight, when I saw mention on Facebook of Artemisia's evening specials. I've always loved brunch here, so let's try dinner. And what a dinner. There are small plate/tapas starters and polite sized (you can eat it all without feeling roly-poly) entrées. I highly recommend the cooler - fruit purées with seltzer water. I got the raspberry-lime and my mom got the ginger-lime. I enjoyed mine, but I loved mom's. Then something we all split two desserts, they just sounded to yummy to decide. A simple berry trifle with mascarpone cream and a lemon vanilla layer cake. The trifle was light and refreshing with just enough sweetness in the cream and the cake was moist with just the perfect balance of sweet from the cake and tart from the lemon. Like I said, I've liked Artemisia for brunch for a long time, but they've just become one of my new favorite dinner spots.

My friend and I caught the Brunch rush on Sunday we had to wait for about 20 minutes but it was well worth the time. The service was very friendly though slightly over-loaded with tables and customers. I got the Pesto Sandwich and it was just delicious, lots of egg and cheese all over. I substituted the home fries for salad and they had no problem making the change. Over all it was a really great brunch experience, quality food in a quality atmosphere.

We were disappointed with the lunch we had. My daughter’s sweet potato sandwich featured sweet potatoes that were very undercooked. They were so hard, that the tines of a fork could pierce them only with difficulty. When I told the waitress about this, she apologized and said she would comp two ice teas. I thought that was inappropriate and weird. I thought she should have not charged us for the sandwich. It was really ill prepared. My son was not thrilled with his Artemesia burger, as it did not have much onion sauce on it, which had been the reason he ordered it., because he thought it sounded so good. My Cobb salad was good. No complaints about that. But it general it was not great. It did not live up to the reviews we read.

Arrive before 10 AM to get seated quickly, as was our case on a Sunday. What a quaint and unbelievably delicious breakfast one can have here! It’s interior decor is so inviting and very green! There are plants everywhere. And as far as the staff goes, they were genuine, delightful, and gave great recommendations on their menu. When I come back to Portland, this is the breakfast I want to have!

We came to this place last weekend for a brunch at the suggestion of the hotel staff. There were just 2 people outside the place who were waiting ahead of us. When we came in, we were told that the wait could be about 25 minutes. Which was strange because we saw about 3 tables that were free and I am only talking about what was within our sight from the door. Who knows there could be more inside that we could not see. And yet, we saw 4 groups called before we were called, which was already past 45 minutes. When we raised this to the waitresses and front door lady, they seemed unshaken and did not give us any explanation. And then, we were called and seated, and while in our table, we waited for yet another 20 minutes before our food came in, making our wait effectively more than an hour. While waiting for our food, we read reviews and yelp, and voila - the problems we were having have already been raised by others hear - long wait, understaffed. The understaffing situation could be the problem, because as we waited for 45 minutes, 4 groups were called to come in but we never saw anyone step out and leave their tables. Which makes it clear that they were not filling up tables because they probably cannot cope with the demand, with only 3 women running the place on a peak hour of Sunday brunch. We were so disappointed that we left very little tip, and as we headed to the parking lot, we were chased by one of the ladies who screamed "thanks, folks!" in a sarcastic way. I will never come back to this place. Ever.

I love this place for lunch and can't wait to try their new breakfast menu. I guess this means they're open 6 days a week. For a while it was very hard to guess when they would be open or not for dinner or lunch. I think they are concentrating on new breakfast and established lunch trade. I haven't tried breakfast yet, but I look forward to it. Their lunches are just excellent. I love this place for lunch

we live in Boston and have a home in Scarborough since 2008. We worked with Rick Renner, the architect up the street from this place when it was only an incredible breakfast and lunch place. This restaurant open for dinners now under a husband and wife. is a gem worth traveling to. simple in appearance but food for royalty with modest prices and service that is hard to find. our in-laws not used to experimenting loved their risotto, their hangar steak - like no other they had tasted. try it before it becomes really famous and impossible to book. My bride has been there 5 times but I will catch up.

Lizzy Gonzalez

Quiet and not crowded. Some of the best brunch food in Portland for a really good price. Everyone is so nice and remember us from months ago.

Andrew Elegante

Some good reviews. Compelling online photos. Interesting and differentiated menu. Unfortunately the execution was way below expectations for this day. First issue was that we put our name on the list then went outside to wait with almost everyone else. After waiting 15 minutes more than our estimate and seeing parties that came after us get seated, I went in to check on our position and was told "we already called your name". There were 4 of us in the group sitting right by the door. It turns out they didn't check outside. Once seated we ordered. My friend and I split the French toast which the menu says has to be prepared overnight and takes longer. We also ordered a Benedict. Both were very disappointing. The French toast was incredibly dry and despite the menu saying it was made using thick slices of bread it looked like normal super market best. The Benedict wasn't very flavorful and the eggs were over done. Our food was brought out by someone in the kitchen so maybe they were understaffed or something. Regardless, after so many great did experiences in Portland this was a big disappointment.

My husband and I went for brunch here. I had the lobster eggs benedict. The food was tasty and the portion sizes were perfect.

Having traveled about the globe for work, we have to say what a pleasure it was to come into a space with phenomenal service and attentiveness to timing combined with fantastic flavors and inventive dishes-- all under the auspice of quality ingredients and local sourcing. Cannot recommend it highly enough. My wife is here as a soloist with Portland Symphony, so if my fellow musicians, patrons and fans of the symphony don't know about it-- GO! It's beyond conveniently located.. and for those of you who just need a great meal-- GO!

This was my favorite meal in Portland and one of the best breakfasts I've had. The veggie hash was popping with color and freshness, the sourdough bread was perfect, the jam was tasty... But the biscuits and gravy really were next level. The fluid part of sausage gravy had as much sausage flavor as the meaty bits themselves. My companion was very pleased with her omelette and maple sausage links, and loved the Irish Iced Coffee from the bar. Our server was great. Helpful and attentive and genuinely funny. Just felt like a welcoming place. If you are visiting Portland my #1 recommendation is to come here for breakfast or brunch.

Best two meals we had in our five days in Portland. I hesitate to give rave reviews sometimes, for fear that the place will become swamped and I won’t be able to get a table. But we probably won’t be back for a year, so knock yourselves out. The people here are lovely, and the food we had for one breakfast and one lunch was reasonably priced and fantastic. It is also a low key, charming and comfortable space.

We had the best dining experience at Artemisia. After seeing them recommended by so many people online, we knew we had to try it out. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and was located right in the center of the city. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. Each of our meals was incredible — so so tasty! The top chef even came to our table and gave us some pointers for seeing Portland! After a six day trip to Portland, this was our #1 FAVORITE restaurant in the city and was the best food we ate during our entire trip. It was such a nice and classy place! This is one the top restaurants in the city. Make sure you eat here! We will be back again soon!

Arrived on Sunday at 11:00am and got a table for 3 immediately (very lucky, I infer). Pleasantly intimate space. Servers were very busy but pleasant, paused for the important bits. No disappointments, all around delicious. Just as an example, the burgundy sauces on the oeufs en meurette was heavenly and the eggs were perfect. Fabulous latte. Fresh juice. Great breads. Eager to visit again.

Nice little place. Menu items are named after famous artists. E.g. the Friday Kahlo salad, Mondrian sandwich. Mondrian was on artisan bread with sliced sweet potato, red onion, avocado, tomato, sprouts and a nice aoli. It is messy to eat but nobody minds, especially not my friends. Servings are generous so they trade plates halfway through. How's that for comfortable? Enjoyable!
