My family and I are from Georgia and we eat here every time we come to New Orleans to visit our daughter who’s in school at Dillard University. An amazing place to eat!! The food is always good melts in your mouth! My favorite thing to eat here is EVERYTHING!! The people are very friendly! Great establishment!!!

We go here when we eat out and I recommend to others. We try to order something different and have never been disappointed. The place always seems to be crowded but we seem to get our food in a timely manner. The staff is friendly. The seafood platter is the best.

The food is always excellent here. We've always enjoyed Monday's in the past since that's the day they serve Red Beans & Rice (NOLA staple - commonly only made on Mondays). If you do want Red Beans you must go early, because once they are out that's it. The menu is very varied and we've never had a bad meal here. Of course, during the Lent season trying to get into any seafood restaurant on a Friday night is impossible so I will be very wary of doing that again. It took over an hour to get a table and there addre no reservations or call ahead options. My biggest problem here was the restaurant is extremely loud. Taking my elderly parents here, with other elderly family that was in town, was a problem. They were unable to converse and it became a rush to leave. One person that suffers with migraines had lay down the rest of the evening afterward. I would really like to recommend to this restaurant some soft surfaces to help absorb some of the sound. The restaurant, which is awesome to look at, is all wood and glass so any noise just bounces around magnifying it all. Some soft pieces in a few unobtrusive places (ceilings, high walls, etc) could help a lot to assist with the volume. It was loud enough that regardless of how good the food was I will have a hard time getting those family members back.

Service was horrible and we were placed by the kitchen kept getting bumped into and they dropped a bowl and broke it by us so we had to keep moving so they could clean it up. I will never go again!

Love the military theme. The shrimps were so light and flavorful but they weren't cleaned. The bread was also very soft and light full of seeds. It was nice but I prefer the French bread on my PO-boy. Also, they aren't large PO-boys at all. You can go to a corner store and get a full loaf PO-Boy for $7 or $8 but it costed $12 here for much less but it tasted nice. The waitress said theystrain the oil twice daily. I wish they had cleaned them and did 1 less strain. Lol!

Lots of choices. On a return visit, I chose the half seafood muffaletta. Wow! The sandwich was piled high with shrimp, fish and oysters, and generously dressed with the fixings. Cut in two pieces, it was a bit hard to eat the sandwich and keep the seafood in place. As a result, I had a good sandwich and the equivalent of a small fried seafood platter left on my plate after my sandwich. That's not a complaint at all, but a testimony to how much seafood was on that sandwich. On this visit, I was outside the usual busy weekday and weekend periods, so I was able to seat myself and eat quickly. But this place can get crowded, and waits are not uncommon.

We were just passing through with my dog and I saw the signs from the exit on the highway. Not the absolute closest cafe from the 10, but I'm happy we happened upon Southside. It was a bustling afternoon and the weather toasty, but the seating outside was perfect for our purposes. A large gathering of regulars were seated on the high chairs across from us, under the awning. The hostesses instructed us that no service was offered for outside, but that we could order "to go" from near the kitchen. We did so. The flavoring of the gumbo and the brisket burger was delicious and perfectly cooked as I had specified. This place is by no means local for us or anyone we know, but we'd probably frequent the place regularly if it was! Definitely recommend! (Lots of parking and clean bathrooms too.)

This was a Sunday evening so they may not have changed their oil, but the thick cut onion rings were very greasy. Ordered the seafood platter and now they said it doesn't come with fries anymore, which is ok but they also cut back on the seafood amount. We understand the cost of product may go up but you shouldn't cut back and still charge the same price.

I really enjoyed my Crawfish Poboy dressed. I've never got any like it. It was very fresh. The waiters are very knowledgeable of the menu, and helpful. My only complain was the noise, and worse with the cheap chairs. My suggestion for the noise on the chairs, they should put some tennis ball on the chairs feet!! If they don't do something with the noise, next time I will be having a takeout, for sure!!

I ordered a shrimp po’boy and bowl of seafood gumbo it was alright it could have used some seasoning or a little kick that you would expect from this region. I would go back but I will try somewhere else tonight. The price wasn’t too bad. The po’boy was lacking on the number of shrimp in it, packed to the gills.

We have been going to Southside Cafe for several years. My husband particularly enjoys steak nights and BTW he is a Vietnam vet. Last night was the worst experience I have ever had at this restaurant. There were young guys coming in the back door, roaming the restaurant and walking out the front door. There was another young man who just walked in, sat at the table next to us and played with his phone. He never checked in with the hostess and at the time there was a 20 minute wait. There was a table of drunks 2 tables over from us who were rude and obnoxious. People clapped when they left. I work hard all week and look forward to going out. But I will not put up with what I did last night again.

Place was fine for a later dinner on a Wednesday. We had dinner around 8:45 on our way to New Orleans. Not many options open that late on a weekday so i was surprised to find a place open that wasn't a fast food chain. Fiancee had the Pontchartrain Pig sandwich and I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Mine was very spicy to only be at a level 3 out of 5 spice(options on menu) so if you like spice this is a good option. Overall, would have liked to find a better place but with the time of night this was the best option for the area.

We chose Southside Cafe on our drive through Louisiana based upon the Trip Advisor reviews. So happy we did. We were there 2/5/19 and were flawlessly served by Jennifer. The food was delicious and the place was busy mid-afternoon on a Tuesday - a huge indicator of success. The walls and ceiling proudly displayed military tributes and gear. Love love love it! Thanks!

My hubby and I did this review on Yelp and just in case you don't Yelp, here it is. We eat out often and we are superb food critics who will give you honest reviews! This is, by far, the BEST spot in town! EVERYTHING on the menu is superb! There is a distinct and delicious taste to the foods on the menu! We always eat out and there is no comparison to Southside! The stuffed shrimp is wonderful! The seafood platter is plentiful! The patty melt makes one's mouth water! The club sandwich is like no other! The hot sausage poboy is uniquely exquisite! There is CONSISTENCY in the food which always comes out hot to the table, like the flavorful gumbo! Hate telling y'all all the favorites because you might run there now to grab a bite to eat and there won't be any left for me and the family! Did we mention that there is CONSISTENCY in the service which is always good (Bobby, the friendly waiter, is the fam's favorite). If there is a wait, don't fret! It's totally worth it! Oh wait...can't forget about the fried mushrooms and string fries!! Can you tell that we eat here often?! Lol We eat here at least weekly and there are regulars who do the same. Ya just gotta try everything on the menu and experience Southside for yourself!!

Extremely good food, and very nice people. The only problem is that the kitchen can't really keep up with the size of the restaurant, or its popularity. So, the wait for food was close to 45 minutes or so, and they overwhelmed waiter didn't stop by more than once during that time. The place is also more than a touch loud. That having been said, however, the food was absolutely worth both to stop and the wait. Three of us head Seafood, one head steak, most of us I had portions that were more than big enough to bring home, and all of us were quite happy with the way they were cooked.

If you are wondering if you should go to Southside, just go. The food is absolutely worth it. Maybe it's because we come with small kids, but we always get sat in the back room, and it's so loud in there. Uncomfortable levels of loud. But the food is sooooooo good. So good. So very good, seriously. Wait staff is adequate, bar can be a little slow. But have had at least 10 different items off them menu and all were quite enjoyable. Decent parking, nice venue. Ordering carry-out is painless. Go. Go now.

My friend and I came here after a recommendation from our guide on a swamp tour. We are so glad someone in the group asked where to go for good gumbo!! I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, and my friend got a combo plate that he loved. The chicken was really flavorful and crispy, and the mashed potatoes might have been the best I've ever had!! Loved it all :)

The food was ok, but not what the hype would suggest. It was busy which gave us hope for a great meal, but we were both disappointed overall. The server was polite, but inattentive and mostly absent. At one point we could tell she was eating in the back as she walked out chewing. There was a lot of trash on the floor that remained our entire visit. As I wrote this review I dropped from 3 to 1 star remembering these things and the fact that when the server gave back my change she rounded in her favor by 48 cents. That is theft (coming from someone who works in the industry) and will definitely prevent me from going back or sending anyone else there.

You have to try the fried mushrooms for the app. I got the pork sandwich last time I was there and was just amazing for the price. My husband and I have frequented this restaurant for a long time because the food we enjoyed. But as I mentioned to my husband over the years as many times we've been there, the owner would walk the floors many times but never once came to greet us or ask of our experience there was great or bad. Neither did I notice him frequent tables with people of my culture. So we decided to enjoy and patronize other restaurants who are appreciative of our business.

We love this restaurant and visit here on our way home from New Orleans. Very cool armed services theme with pictures and posters from different generations. Food is wonderful, especially the onion soup, Reuben sandwich and turkey po boy. Staff friendly as well.

The menu's are terribly disorganized. The specialty drinks overly priced( $10 for a bloody Mary! We waited more than thirty minutes for our food. The food tastes below average; fried steak overly cooked, cream potatoes taste like garlic! Potato soup was too greasy. Total cost for three people $42 overall rating; pricey $$$$$ below average service all in all.

The food here is always great! I've eaten here for many years and enjoy the food. Tonight same great food but not so great service. I don't even know the name of our waitress. I just wanted to sit down, relax and drink my favorite beer. With half my beer left and half my sandwich eaten a to-go box is brought to my table, along with the check and I was asked if I needed a to-go drink. Just not a very satisfying experience.

I've only had the burgers, but that's all you really need to get there! Both the sirloin and brisket burgers are excellent and cooked as you want them. The jalepeno cheddar bun is freaking awesome too! Almost like cornbread. Wednesday is free toppings night for burgers, that's when I'd go! Service is pretty good too! Popular spot so you may have a little wait most nights.

Great food, awesome environment, I love going to seafood places that don't seem fancy or stuffy. Alisa did a great job taking care of us. We split the Seafood platter between the two of us and had left overs. Crawfish balls were on point and Seafood gumbo was flavorful.

This is my favorite restaurant of all time. Last night I had the blackened tuna salad with romalaude dressing and it was so good that I couldn't keep from humming "mmm" with every bite. The Old Fashioned was pretty tasty too!
