I was recently in Richmond for an event and searched for a place for my wife, daughter and myself, to eat, that wasn’t a chain. After reading the reviews and viewing the pictures, I chose Purdy’s. Downtown Richmond is quaint and appealing, as was Purdy’s, both inside and out. Very nice atmosphere, especially and a wet and cloudy day. However, my experience was not as appealing. A couple of things bothered me about my experience; 1. The cafe, although decently sized, is a coffee shop, that attracts those wanting to sip coffee and use their iPads at a leisurely pace. The trouble with this, is, several tables, meant to be occupied by up to four people were tied up by a single person. Depending on the time you choose to go and the number of people in your party, you may not have seating. 2. My family and I ordered sandwiches, which there were plenty of them to choose from. Sandwich prices were $6-$9, which come with chips or potato salad or fruit, your choice. I can say much positive about the sandwiches. For the price, I would have expected a decent portion or at least something other than prepackaged deli meats. I ordered the Purdy’s Club. Honestly, the sandwich had one slice of pressed turkey, one slice of ham, two slices of precooked, prepackaged bacon, a sliver of lettuce and one slice of tomato. That was it! For $8, I was really disappointed. There was nothing fresh about it and the portion was laughable. My daughter received a Pollo Purdy’s sandwich, which was a pulled chicken sandwich with chipotle sauce. Although tasty, the portion was again, laughable. The sandwich had the appearance of a grilled-cheese sandwich, about 1/2” thick. It is very disappointing to spend over $20 and not receive portions to justify $12. Based on this visit, I would not choose Purdy’s during a meal-time or for a place to eat. I’m sure, as far as a place to have coffee and talk with a friend, it would be a fine choice. Sorry Purdy’s, it just wasn’t a “hit” with me.

Every college town deserves an excellent coffee shop, and Purdy's more than delivers. Great ambiance in a beautifully restored old building on the main street. Lots of wood and exposed brick. Comprehensive menu of salads, pressed sandwiches and baked goods, including multiple vegetarian options. All the food was prepared freshly and was tasty. Very friendly staff, and plentiful boardgames, puzzles and toys for kids to play with. Very glad we stumbled on this establishment, and we look forward to returning.

Waited 15 min for my drink and I asked politely about it because I was late for work, and the lady behind the counter was rude to me. This is the 2nd time the same woman has been rude to me. I have social anxiety so this bothers me a lot. I try very hard to be nice to everyone but I just wanted to make sure they hadn't forgotten my order since 3 people got theirs before me. Again, I was very polite about it but I guess she felt rushed and rolled her eyes at me. Feeling pressure is still no reason to be rude to a customer who is being polite. I will not be able to bring myself to go back to Purdy's after being treated this way twice.

We were looking for something different today in need of caffeine and hoping to find a new spot for it. We arrived at the classic old storefront location in downtown Richmond. The aroma of coffee tickled our noses upon opening the door. We were warmly greeted and after perusing the menu decided upon a cappucino and the farmhouse breakfast sandwich. As we waited we enjoyed the old metal ceiling the rustic brick wall and the antique ambiance that seemed to be everywhere. The canning jar lights above the espresso machine were a nice touch. The cappucino was perfect. The 20oz with 4 shots is recommended for the coffee aficiando. The espresso has those dark chocolate notes that are so warm and elegant. The "farmhouse" was excellent with the smokey notes from the bacon and the tangy cream from the cheese. DELICIOUS..A MUST VISIT

So when I ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich they said they were out of eggs this morning but they would add extra bacon to make up for it, which I’m totally okay with! Down to 4 stars. But with the extremely large coffee, tea, and smoothie selection, it’s back up to 5 stars. Plus the food is amazing and staff are very friendly. Very good food, great views of Main Street in Richmond, KY, you really can’t go wrong at this place!

The coffee is far better than Starbucks, IMO, with comparable pricing and way better atmosphere. I do wish they had later hours and that they had more "quiet space", but overall, as Richmond's only small business coffee shop, they do a great job.

These reviews aren't a fluke; the coffee is great, the staff are personable in more than an "employee" sort of way, the interior is beautiful - the first floor is open and social, the second floor is quiet and private - and the place is always developing and improving with new menu items and ideas.

Coffee can be really hit or miss honestly. 4/5 drinks I have ordered have tasted burnt, but with a hint of whatever specialty the drink has with it, which usually makes it a little better but doesn't justify the price compared to other chain coffee shops in the area... I want to support local business as much as possible so I avoid those places as much as possible, but I also dokt really go to Purdy's that often because, well, I've already mentioned it. Still a neat place with some unique takes on caffeinated drinks that make up for the strange burnt taste they all have
