A very homey environment where every guest feels welcomed! Every seating has its aesthetics whether it's indoor or outdoor. The menu selection is straightforward with the option to substitute food (like getting toast instead of pancakes). Everything is freshly made and portioned to not make you full but rather satisfied. The Bloody Mary is made very well here and it had just the right amount of spice- Mimosas are also a great hit here too! A perfect spot for early breakfast or a get-together brunch- highly recommended!

Took a large group here once. While the actual service was a little slow, the servers themselves were more than friendly. The food was even better than described with perfect amalgamation of flavor and presentation. While not that lengthy a list of bourbons, there is a oddly surprising selection of some bourbons that are hard to find. Will return!

When we came it was a little busy but we got seated very fast. I ordered a ceaser salad and a BLT with some potatoe salad. After two hours of eating I threw up twice and then fainted. Loved the waitress and all but will never return ever again!

This place is excellent. The staff we're polite and helpful, even when our children were being brats. We we're just in town for a couple days, and we took a gamble on this place, but it was a good experience. We had the spinach salad, vegan Reuben, pancakes, and a burger, so there definitely was something for everyone. Our two-year-old had a side of mashed potatoes, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Their wine and bourbon selection was great, and I had my first (and quite positive) experience with Kentucky bourbon. Definitely would recommend this place.

She forgot to place my order, so I had to wait lot longer while my friends ate. I didn't say a word about it until now. I've been to better and prefer better.

Not sure if they were having an off day or what. Empty restaurant and they still seated us at a booth in the back with seats covered in duct tape. The shrimp and grits was not inedible, but the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery, and the whole dish was more akin to something you would expect from a food truck, not "one of Louisville's premier restaurants" as the website states. For $22 they had better be the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. This wasn't even the best I've had this week. I will come back to Louisville, but I won't be back to the North End Cafe.

Sept 2019 update: Please firm up communication from customer to kitchen. I eat here every 2-3 weeks. On occasion, including this week, my order is wrong. This time the hostess even checked each container, but I got the wrong tacos; no reasonable person was going to open up those wraps to check further, so what else could we have done? I informed the hostess by phone. She was very gracious and apologetic, offered many ways to make it right. I just wanted the food I ordered. Will be back. Migas! With extra pico! And home fries! My go-to, and the service from the folks at the host/hostess stand is always excellent. They do right by take-out customers, so slip them a few bucks. I'd give five stars but for the failure to offer sweet tea. Freshly brewed not-too-sweet tea on the patio with a light breeze...aaaaah.

Food was really good. Had a young waiter who tried hard. But things got out of his control when the chef brought out my dinner before I had even had time to finish my large salad. My dates meal was great. Waiter was very attentive. We ate outside on a beautiful evening. Afterward we walked to a dessert shop, nereby, and had coffee and dessert. All in all it is a fabulous trendy area with beautiful gardens and lots of laughter and merriment.

I am so glad I slow-played getting Mother's Day reservations. I was desperately looking for a place to take Mommy and lucked into this place. Hubby and Mommy had perfectly cooked salmon and I had the chicken enchiladas. The black beans were almost as good as those I make. Our Mother's Day tradition is mimosas, but we got the peach raspberry bellini instead. I think we have created a new Mother's Day tradition.

Food was ok. Came for Sunday breakfast. They were really busy and we had to wait a long time for both our table and our food to arrive. A lot of unique and creative options on the menu that I'd like to try. This time tried the vegetable omelette of the day. It was just ok. My wife had the biscuits and gravy. She found the biscuits to be delicious, but the gravy was very soupy. Overall good value though.

I have been to the Northend Cafe in bardstown before, but not this one on Frankfort ave. The food is great & service was excellent. It was a little too noisy for my taste, but it was very crowded with a long wait list. They don't have enough parking. The menu is extensive & has something for everyone. Prices are moderate.

One of our first stops on the Louisville Urban Bourbon Trail. Had a great lunch! Rueben sandwich was traditional style, nice, warm and crispy from the grill. Also had grilled vegetable salad, excellent! Good choice for vegetarian meal, did have goat cheese on it. Bloody Mary was great. Our waitress, Tiffany, did a fantastic job and was extremely knowledgeable about the architecture of the building and the local area and places to go

Great family spot for breakfast lunch or dinner. The service is always good, people are friendly and the atmosphere lively (but not unusually loud considering the number of people. Always check out the Breakfast specials, which they will serve all day. I recommend the steak and eggs if you don’t go with a special. Their pancakes are a cornmeal base pancake which is much heartier than the norm. The shrimp and grits are good as are their burgers. Try the French toast, calamari and salads.

I love North End for breakfast. I can't comment on their other meals as I've never tried them. The breakfast is outstanding and, in my opinion, the best in Louisville. I judge breakfast places in large part by their grits and North End has great grits.Everything else I've had had been delicious too. I love their pancakes and the migas. Service is always great (at this location) and I love that there is outdoor seating. The interior is really nice too though. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Delicious bib lettuce salad was served with nuts, sliced apples, crumbled Bleu and very delightful dressing. My chicken and dumplings entree was made with carrots, onions, asparagus and was swimming in wonderful white gravy. There was more than enough chicken in this dish. I also ordered a Mojito that went beyond my expectations. I loved my meal back home in Louisville.

What can I say? This is my husband and I’s new favorite breakfast spot. We are sorry we didn’t discover it earlier. The food is delicious, the bourbon Bloody Marys are stupendous, the service is great, and the prices simply can’t be beat for the quality. We love North End!

Have always loved North End but the last 2 times I’ve been, they were “out” of several items. I mean really... they were out of Caesar dressing?!!!! Being out of menu items is unacceptable. If you can’t keep them in house then those items should go in a daily “specials” menu and come off of the main menu. The service was also very slow. Sorry to see this establishment going down hill.

We were heading home to St. Louis from Stanton and actually had pulled off the highway for the antique mall, but we saw the sign for North End Cafe and decided to pull in. Favorite little spot we stopped at on the whole roadtrip! The food options were a real surprise, vegetarian and seafood options along with specialized basics. It was delicious and the girls who work there have a great vibe and good attitude. Will definitely make it a point to stop off again

I visit this restaurant regularly-- it's great for all the meals! (brunch, lunch, dinner.) They have a good gluten-free menu and are careful with food allergies. They even have gluten-free pancakes! There is an extensive menu, which means everybody can be happy. My faves are the salmon nicoise salad, vegan tacs (on corn tortillas), home fries, shrimp piri piri, hummus. The servers are usually really great.

Not impressed with food. Husband and I went there for breakfast since our Airbnb host recommended it. All I could taste while trying to eat the potatoes/hashbrowns was a burnt flavor. My coffee cup was empty half-way through my breakfast, refill was never offered. Dripped syrup on my shirt so I went to dab it with water in the bathroom, only to find the mirror leaning against the wall, offering me a wonderful view of my knees. Was not impressed for how pricy our meal was, will not go back.

Completely underwhelmed! Don’t go if you’re short of time. My hubby and I literally just left from having brunch. My coffee ran out and so had my husbands water while we were waiting on our food. We ordered pancakes, eggs and hash browns. I can’t speak to the deliciousness of the food because by the time the first part of our food arrived to the table (pancakes & potatoes) it was room temp at best. The eggs finally arrived, then we waited on syrup. Our waitress finally returned to the table to refill the water and began saying they were short a server because they had anticipated rain and didn’t intend on opening the patio seating, which I assume contributed more work for the servers. Admittedly, the restaurant was busy, which is why we didn’t mind waiting the stated 15 mins, which ended up being more like 40. The wait for a table and the okay food added about 2 hours to our already 3 hour drive home. If we had waited and the food and service was good, would have given 4 stars.

Food has been good on all 3 visits. Odd thing is, I have gotten coffee the last two times and wasn't ask if I want cream. I don't think to request any. I just assume they will bring some like 95% of the hundreds of times I've eaten out in the past. Coffee comes. No cream. No spoon either. So I undo the setup and it only has knife and fork. Use knife to stir coffee after adding sugar. Catch waiter guy a bit later and ask for cream. He brings some. Still no spoon. Use knife again. I can get that utensil conservation at home.

Great place for breakfast! I ordered the biscuits and veggie gravy with a side of veggie sausage. It was delicious. He ordered the trout hash and loved it. We shared a side of cheesy grits and we enjoyed the salty creaminess of it. The coffee is nothing to write home about but stay for the food!

Came in two days in a row, same time. Both times meat omelet was cold inside, toast barely toasted. Biscuits and gravy has a good taste but biscuit was cold on the first visit. Second day it was spot on. Price was different from prior day, even though I ordered the same thing. So just went to give this place another chance on june 18th. 9:28am. Tried to order the biscuits and gravy with sausage gravy. And they were out, was told they had a busy Sunday. Sausage gravy is one of the easiest things to make.

This place used to be excellent but it’s so bad now. The French toast isn’t made fresh (manager admitted this to us openly after we sent it back because it came out burnt). The potatoes were all burnt too and the toast was cold. The meal was just awful except for the eggs and the grits. Even the pancake was cold, the butter didn’t even melt when I tried to spread it. It’s sad because this used to be my absolute favorite breakfast place but it’s gone so far down the drain now. This place used to be packed on weekends for brunch and the day I went it was totally empty. I think people are catching on to the decline in quality

I had reservations for a group of 14. The service was slow and disorganized. One person in the group ordered only plain toast. She was the last one served. Orders we wrong and I wasn't offered more coffee. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. All in all we would have been better off to go to cracker barrel. At least the servers there smile.

Of the two locations in Louisville, I like this one the best. Great bread and jam before. I like their salads and usually try something different every time I go. Good place for that cafe feel where it also open in the evening. Good porch to sit on in in summer. Friendly service.

The food and service have gone way downhill. For example, their burgers used to be nice, juicy restaurant burgers. The last one I had more closely resembled a fast food patty than a restaurant burger, and was overcooked. I could barely eat it. Also, the bartender has quite a nasty attitude. It is a shame as this restaurant was a place I visited almost weekly the first few years I first lived here, and had always had a good experience until recently. I don't know if they need new management or what but I won't return for a while. Also, don't believe the "response from the owner" comments. I'm sure it is just the same ineffective manager. I tried calling the owner twice about this and received no response.

This was our first experience at this cafe. We always pass it going to the park or walking around the neighborhood. The atmosphere was very pleasant and inviting. I had the pancakes and corn beef hash. I must say, "it takes a lot to get me out of comfort zone". This was delicious! No need to add any sauce or extras. I then polished off the remainder of the biscuits and gravy. Again, this was very tasty. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast! Great service and not one complaint! Thank you!

Had 2 of the breakfast tacos with a very fresh salsa of almost micro diced tomatoes. But the best thing was tasting the biscuit that came with my husband's omelette. OMG! So good I ordered 1 of my own. A beautiful golden square that was toasty on the outside & deliciously pillowly layers inside. I held the taste of that biscuit with sweet creamy butter in my mouth till it melted into my memory. Biscuit bliss!

I've been to the Frankfort Ave. Location several times. The food has always been great as well as the service. The food always tastes fresh, and they have a reasonable selection of food. The bartender is very friendly and accommodating. It's a nice spot to relax and get a more local feel. You could easily have a business meeting here, as opposed to Hilltop, Manhattan Project and Red Herring being more bar like.

I'm seeing a lot of people referencing the "vegan biscuits and gravy", so I just wanted to give the heads up to my vegans: the mushroom gravy is vegetarian, NOT vegan. Though it is REALLY GOOD.
