REVIEWS OF JJ's Restaurant IN Kansas

Bruce Biscanin

The food was terrific. I had a rib eye cooked medium rare to perfection and my brother had the lamb chops to die for. The wine was on sale so a bargain. Service was impeccable. We had plenty of time for an appetizer and dessert. It was a superb dining experience!!!

Jonathon Tromba

The food was fantastic and the service was everything you would expect from a fine dining establishment. We sampled 2 appetizers 1 small plate 2 salads and 2 entrees. Every dish was delicious.

johnny waller

Came to celebrate my graduation. They were very accommodating for my additional guest and the staff was great. The food is awesome, we had a really good time. I definitely suggest you try here at least once... trust me you won't be disappointed!!!!!

Sung N

Nice experience. Food, drinks & service top notch: curried mussels, Grilled salmon, deep cut pork chops.

It has been 15 or more years since I have been to JJ's the allure is its culture in KC however I found it not to be true. We arrived for dinner with reservations yet was a bit of a wait, was seated at a table that should be removed as it does not treat the guest to any type of atmosphere of fine dinning. The waiter took 10-12 minutes to arrive in fact the water boy had to point out she had not attended the table, she took our drink order and then was lost for another 10 minutes. Ah finally to order dinner, which she failed to tell us about any of the specials, had to ask, the poof she was off did not ask if we need drinks refilled. Dinner arrived 20-25 minutes later, as plane and bland as it get...a steak and asparagus on a plane white plate....my kids at home do a better presentation. She did not offer another round of drinks and the 1st ones were gone over 30 minutes earlier...had to ask. When I asked for a mgr I was told he was coming over, I finally had to go to the receptionist desk to ask for him, and once again he let me stand for 10 minutes. It was not until I told the receptionist that I was not going to pay the bill did he appear. yes ye apologized and took care of the bill ....but at no time did he or anyone including JJ who was within 5 feet offer any enticement to return, and that I can assure you we will not. I was totally disappointed with the entire evening and will not return.

Paul Falcon

One of the best place to eat in Kansas City.

Blake Adame

Love the bar!

Rick Williams

KC classic with great small plates and bar area.

Great mussels! Dumplings with lobster and crab

JJ has something for everyone; salads, steaks, seafood, chicken, pasta, small plates and large plates. They have the most extensive wine list I have ever seen at a restaurant. My friend and I enjoyed the duck breast ravioli and the pear salad with Stilton cheese. The desserts are wonderful too.The restaurant is a little difficult to find as it is in an office building and not immediately viewable from the street. After we had eaten we were informed we could have parked in the garage and they would have validated the ticket. The parking garage is on the side of the building.

Terry Anderson

We walked in with a large party on a snowy Saturday night, the owner stepped right up and seated our large group of kids and adults in the bar area-which was perfectly fine with us! Large wine selections and well stocked bar. Our group sampled a large portion of their menu. Steaks were awesome, but my favorite bite of the night was the paella! So to give a little back ground on this place is my understanding that they had a horrible fire a few years back and did a great job of rebuild. The place is beautiful and so inviting and warm. In order to help so many that worked for the federal government they offered a free lunch which was great.

Great Atmosphere Nice Happy Hour

ASLIMLADY SHADY

We had a couple of appetizers and a couple beers. Enjoyed or food and time spent here. Felt a lil out of place but that quickly subsided. Maybe after first beer! Lol

Pat Rush

always a great experience, bartenders are delightful

This is a great restaurant located right on the edge of the Country Club Plaza. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff is very attentive. The wine list is more than extensive, as is their cocktail menu and scotch selections. The food was good as well. Their lobster purses are a fantatsic appetizer. I enjoyed their wild boar ragu for dinner, which was delicious. Others said their steaks were very good but a couple came out overcooked. Overall, I look forward to revisiting the restaurant in the future.

Steven Macfarlane

Brief wait but worth it. Went with the meatloaf and since it was brunch time, I added an egg to my order. I could not have been more pleased with my food. The meatloaf seemed to follow a recipe for a decent outcome - not too heavy on the fillers, at least two different meats, etc. The accompanying gravy warranted seconds (but I did not have). Washed it all down with a Bloody Mary (and a few glasses of water) and I found the cocktail pleasant (I prefer a thinner mix and this one did not disappoint). Ambiance is noisy (it is situated in a former train station after all) but it adds to the fun. If you enjoy watching your fellow humankind while you eat, JJ's will strike a strong accord with you on that note too. I recommend this establishment.

Thanks for taking care if the Federal Employees in our time of need Simone Trespalacios.

We visited during restaurant week. I enjoyed the food, and the service was great. That being said, it didn't nock my socks off.

Jason Reynolds

Best happy hour snacks 4 sure. Very helpful staff. Not very diverse craft beer selection thou.

Jacob Nechrebecki

We love to visit JJ's for their happy hour, which they host 7 days a week. The beer and the wine are excellent. Sometimes they have promotions on their wine, one of which we did was for wines from Bordeaux at half price. This is all included with top notch service. The food is delicious! The soups are always good. They have 3 main sections: restaurant, bar and patio. The end of the patio allows smoking, so that you can enjoy a cigar on a comfortable afternoon.

Daniel Ropchock

The service was good. The food preparation was very good. I felt the menu was boring, though. There was nothing on the menu that I couldn't live without. While I was looking at the menu, I couldn't help thinking we should have gone somewhere else.

Mark Morash

I've never had anything bad here. Lobster purse for an appetizer, halibut special then a slice of chocolate and lemon cake. My fav appetizer is the prawns, but my guest doesn't eat pork and they're wrapped in bacon. It's expensive, but very good.

Steven Cass

The Paco shrimp appetizer is amazing! Steaks are high quality and cooked to perfection.

mike crosier

Awesome food, very friendly staff, extensive wine list, must visit establishment

Conja Summerlin

Great wine list. Even better food. Even better better service.

Steve Hill

Had an amazing experience here! Food was so good, I got a tuna steak and it was to die for! I will be back!

steve smirnes

one of my favorite cocktail bars with an consistently delicious sophisticated menu

Best steak I've had in the city.

Steven Smirnes

Always friendly and accommodating. Food is excellent. Most extensive wine selection.

Yvette Allen

Excellent service, excellent staff and excellent food. Thank you JJ's for helping out the federal employees in Kansas City. We'll see you soon

foster collins

Impeccable service, great food, well-crafted, generous cocktails and a Wine Spectator Grand Award wine list!

melissa g

Came in for Lunch and love it! Ordered the Lobster and shrimp purses which were delicious. The sauce was perfect! Terry the bartender makes a great bloody mary! The owner was more than helpful and willing to meet any needs I may have had since it is Lent and I can't eat meat on a Friday. Definately recommend this place ❤

Tom Lykins

My wife and I stopped for lunch, enjoyed the food and talking about wine with Lauren.

Christopher Caswell

Great food and great atmosphere

Lisa Gunderson

GREAT happy hour. Really good food (calamari was my fav!) And generous pours at reasonable prices.

Sara Sara

richard johnson

iron reaper

Great place for a drink and food

Shanita Porter

We were there for the free lunch the restaurant was giving federal furloughed employees. It was delicious and we were treated great like we were paying. We did leave a tip and suggest other federal workers do the same. Thank you for treating us with dignity. We plan to return when we are back to work to show our appreciation.

Andy Pieri

We love a great filet and this is our go to place to get one. Classy place and amazing service as well.

Mike Watkins

Great place to dine for lunch or dinner. Superb food and wait staff!

elora thorpe

Wonderful atmosphere and service. Great bar and drinks. Bartenders are awesome!!!

Daisy Murphy

Last minute dinner plans on a Saturday night - we were able to get seated With no problem. Started with “purses”. - little bites of seafood heaven wrapped in phyllo, then a small plate of seafood paella. The house salad was amazingly fresh and crisp with bites of jicama and red pepper. I had the halibut on a bed of fresh corn and seasonal vegetables and my husband had a perfectly cooked filet with au gratin potatoes “to die for” and super yummy Brussels. And O - btw / did I mention the 40% off Bordeaux - yum!!!! We had a fantastic bottle of wine that the manager - Joe - helped us pick out. Our waiter, Cole, was so personable and fun - we’ll be back soon!!!

Great food & atmosphere

I am a huge fan of JJ's. The bar is large and spacious, you can always find a spot. Lunch is perfect for friends or business. And dinner is great for date-night or a group of business associates. Of course, the story and JJ's restaurant to the local KC foodie scene is historical and I am grateful the restaurant continues to thrive. Parking is super simple, below grade with stamped ticket. Wine list is epic.

Renee falcon

Great happy hour!

Staff was not overly friendly. Happy hour prices seemed reasonable and I was looking forward to enjoying the nice patio, but overall it was not a great experience.

Eric Josef

Great food and cocktails. Its a little pricey, but well worth it

Sudy Hurst

Bleck! The Special last week was Scallops seared and put on a bed of creamy risotto and sautéed spinach- usually one of my favorite dishes anywhere, since it’s typically simple with butter and lemon, but this had zero - 0- taste

Colleen Gingrich

Food was fabulous. For some reason the waiter was unattentive. He was not helpful with the menu, would only drop by our table if we called him over and seemed very disinterested if we wanted any more to eat or drink. Not the experience I typically get at this restaurant.

Sara Newton

Awesome place! Thank you for the burger and amazing staff!!

Lindy Stenerud

Loved it! Paco shrimp fantastic.

Nancy Hake

I was a regular at the old JJ's location and loved the cozy vibe of the building. I have just visited the new location and liked it despite reading some negative reviews. Food is excellent and service is superb. Great wine list!

Patty Lichner

First, I just want to say I had no issue at all with the restaurant itself. Food was fantastic, staff was friendly, service was great. The only reason I wanted to comment here is because it is categorized as $$, which it is not. We went in blind after a quick google search, since we are from out of town. It was in the same price class (on here) as Q39, where we had eaten the night before. However, we ate there for half of what this place cost, and we all drank water at JJ's (lotsa beer at Q39!). We had 3 little kids in our party who shared one entree (total of $26), one adult who did not order an entree, and 4 other adults who had pasta. All drank water. Total was $247. Food was great, restaurant was great. It was my bad, going in blind. But, definitely should not be categorized the way it is on here, $$.

Michael Kearns

This was the new JJ's. Wanted a new menu to go along with everything else that was new. Surprised that JJ's did not opt to develop a new menu when they opened the new restaurant with a new chef. It was a great meal with friends. Were out of the wines I ordered, but the sommelier provided other great choices at the same price. That was a nice touch.

Jonna Nevins

The best place for special occasions, like date or anniversaries. They do have a notable wine list with special collection. Food is very good, with right portion. Environment is very nice and a perfect place for people who like to have conversation. Highly recommended for everyone.

Kathy Marler

Excellent!! Great staff, menu and wine list.

DNA Alias

Always good choice for lunch or dinner. If you are a wine connoisseur, this is the only place in KC you need to know. Can't make it to 5 stars due to somewhat "static' lunch menu that did not change much.

Brain Cannon

Six of us went to JJ's for dinner. All six of us were quite pleased. With everything. First, it is a beautiful room. Second, the service is quite good and smart. Third, and probably most important, the food is excellent. And the menu offers anyone a choice they would enjoy -- for example, from salads and a very good personal pizza to osso bucco and steaks. Something for everyone (and every budget). Also, if you are into wine lists, JJ's has an exceptional wine list.

Tousif Khan

Tried their tenderloin steak and it was a masterpiece!

Marcia Berry

Great happy hour! Beef tenderloin sliders are amazing, pizza is great, best mussels in town. And 4-7 seven days a week you can’t beat it.

Jana Kortje

Great spot for lunch with gorgeous outdoor patio space.

Sara Dylan

The food was absolutely delicious and the presentation was impeccable.

Bruce Lill

Absolutely the best food I have had in a long time. The poco shrimp are a must. They are large wrapped in bacon with a delicious sauce. The lobster bisque was perfect although I could have had a larger bowl. For main course was the scallops. Done to perfection. I ended with the chocolate ganache that wasdark creamy and decadent. It's our first choice for our anniversary.

Charles Kunkel

Fantastic place, wonderfull food, great staff!

Karen Spallitta

The chef is outstanding! The grouper was one of the specials recommend by the excellent wait staff! I was not disappointed! It was fantastic! One of the best dinners ever!

Nephateri Hill

First time there beautiful patio section

Andrew Berry

Great Happy Hour! $5 Pizza delicious!

Devon Howe

Absolutely phenomenal steak, cooked perfectly. Their calamari was also amazing

Pat OBoyle

Best unknown happy hour. Great wine and bourbon selection and main course ste five star. Try the patio.

Arnab Sinha

Fabulous collection of wines. Amazing Lamb Chops.. Must Try.

Robert Fisher

Wonderful experience. Service was great and the food superb.

Leonard Dale

More than met my expectations

Matthew Keenoy

Nice romantic setting. We went for lunch on Valentine's day and really enjoyed our food. I highly suggest getting a burger from here if your a burger person. It was one of the best I have ever had. Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, and we'll seasoned. Wait staff was quick and efficient.

M Frankel

Went here on business recently. JJ's has excellent service. I ordered the petit fillet mignon and it was fantasic... among the best fillets I have ever had and I have had a lot My party also ordered ahi tuna and mussels for appetizers and raved about it. JJ's Is expensive, But if you are in Kansas City on business or have a special occasion, it is well worth it. I might add that the ambience is very nice too.

nancy majors

It was an awesome experience. Service and food was the best.

Justin Stawarz

This place was very overpriced. The location is great but if you're charging $18 for an appetizer it should at least be pretty good. Nobody at our table seemed to care for their order. The staff was fine but nothing more than you'd get at any other restaurant. The only thing this place has going for it is the setting and for the price, it's not enough.

Chi Hoang

Came here for a Sunday Funday and for Happy Hour. Really enjoy the atmosphere and how clean and vibrant this place is. This was our first time here at this establishment and my oh my, friendly staff, good food, and great drinks as well. Had the calamari and it was fresh and tasty. My friends had their tacos and they claimed it was very good as well. This might be the spot next time for Dinner and also another good happy hour spot. Can't wait to go again!

Sheri Harrison

We had a wonderful bartender for happy hour. Sorry I didn't catch his name, (dark beard and black glasses), was GREAT! He recommended the pizza, which today was a spicy chicken with Alfredo and fontina? cheese. So yummy! My first visit, but not my last!

Ashley Davis

I can’t say enough good things about this place! We reserved the private dining room for my husband’s 30th & had outstanding service and even better food! The wild boar ragu was phenomenal, the osso buco was out of this world! Love the atmosphere, super friendly and knowledgeable staff, and I’m not even kidding when I say I dreamt about that osso buco. Will return for sure!

S Ewing

We had a reservation for 5pm but we arrived early so we had some wine on the patio. The presentation of the wine and the glass was perfect. The atmosphere was great. It wasn't loud just quaint. The entire staff was pleasant and made sure we were taken care of. Once we were seated in the dining room, we ordered their mussels appetizer and the broth was delicious. For the main course we ordered the KC steak and the pork chop entree with wine and beer. Both entrees were larger than I imagined. It was amazing. It really does define what KC has to offer. The whole dinner took about two and a half hours. We never had to ask for refills on our drinks because there was always a staff member in hand in the dining room making sure our needs were met. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Eunice Ortiz

Lisa Brown

JJ's is an excellent place to meet up with friends or business associates. The overall atmosphere is really welcoming and inviting. I was with a large group and the wait staff was awesome in taking our orders and making sure we were taken care of they were very professional. The food was very good. I highly recommend JJ's.

Kim Lewis

We celebrated my father's 80th Birthday along with my daughter's 15th here. Service was excellent. The Wine selection was enormous. There is no kids menu but they are able to accommodate grilled chicken or pasta for little ones. I had the steak medallions which were delicious. My nephew ordered the tuna and I took a bite of his dish and it was really good as well - a little raw for me but well cooked for his taste. Other's in our party had the salmon and they enjoyed it. I didn't give it a 5 star, because my party of 11 enjoyed their meals, but didn't necessarily love it and for the prices here you should love the food! Finding the location was difficult and parking for us was troublesome. Some in our group found the garage for it and others didn't.

kevin Donnelly

Great service from Travis. Food was perfect.

L J

Come for drinks not food. Wine was great, steak was terrible. The jj special was bland and flavorless. Very disappointed and still charged an arm and a leg for it.

Real Estate Queen Dena Odom

The Salmon was mouth watering delicious!! And the waitress did a superb job.

Shanna Higgins

The food is amazing and the service is impeccable! JJ's is one of the best restaurants in Kansas City.

Donald Brain

I loved the old jjs as most people did. When the new one opened I actually wasn't as much of a fan. The indoors is pretty but so big and corporate feeling, it lost a bit of its charm. But then I sat outside. It was amazing. Like nothing else in the city, and like nothing the old restaurant had. Things change.

Samantha Olson

We enjoyed our service and food expect for when we were finishing up. It was late in the evening and the manager was clearly drunk. His name was Joe. He was threatening his staff members and could barely walk straight. We sat at the bar and it was obvious the bartenders thought he was out of control. It was uncomfortable for us to talk to him at the end of the night as we were leaving, because he was so intoxicated.

Krista Peterson

Always friendly and great service! Food is great as well! Awesome Happy Hour!

Terry Berggren

It's always a plus when the owner is on site. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Philip Rametta

We just went during restaurant week. Service was okay. Took 15 minutes to get our wine to us. Waiter didn't come by very often and wasn't very personable but did his job right in getting the food orders correct. We had a bottle of cab which was very good. Wife ordered the Paco shrimp which were great! The toast and mushrooms was okay. The mushrooms were seasoned great but the toast... wasn't toasty at all. Felt like I was eating mushrooms on a hamburger buns. Main entree was semi warm when it arrived. I had the wild boar rague which would have been utterly delicious if served hotter. Wife has the cod meal with beans and cabbage. As cod is extremely hard to cook, it was quite bland. Her meal was also warm at best. Desert was fantastic. Portioned great. Not a big slice, which I don't need anyway. The nuts, rum glaze, went fantastic with the rich, chocolate, fudge cake.

Santosh Chapagain

The bartender was really really nice. I totally recommend this place.

Brian Jones

There for a group dinner. Had a filet and it was amazing. Staff was friendly and did a great job taking care of the entire group. Joe did a great job during the wine tasting, fun and educational. I would highly recommend for a group dinner.

Kenya Mester

The food was amazing and the staff were very knowledgeable!

Celeste Lupercio

A Kansas City classic. An experience not to be missed.

Heather Troth

Very cool place. Great atmosphere and food.

Sean Horton

Good service!! GOOD FOOD!

Pat Tholen

Love the patio

stephtomyluo

Their food is phenomenal and usually the service is great too but the two stars is purely because for the last two times that we tried to go eat there, they were closed 2 hours before their operating hours. They said the initial time was due to renovations and the second one was simply because it was slow so they decided to close it down early. Really frustrating...

sara walker

I had the Filet Oscar and my wife had the Bone-In Kona Crusted Dry Aged KC Strip. Both were excellent. The wait staff is courteous, efficient, and very helpful with making menu choices. A little pricey but worth the money.

John LaRoe

Had the tenderloin burger, cooked to perfection and supported by first-rate service in classy & comfortable surroundings. Great experience.

Brian Tennyson

One of my favorites great wine list and great food and the service is top-notch

Alex Henningsen

Summary: A+ highly recommend for date night, business meeting, or to impress someone with what KC has to offer. Last night my wife and I sat on the patio for a late dinner & craft cocktails. Service was extremely friendly and helpful in trying something new on the menu. I settled on the pork chop and my wife on the pasta & meatballs. The food had incredible flavor and recipes were unique. Crafted cocktails were incredible as well.

Ryan Bucher

Wonderful aura here, food was great and wait staff were attentive. Waiter said there is parking below and is paid by validation, so don't miss it when driving by on the one way street Roanoke. You have to turn on to 48th Place to find the parking, but the restaurant is actually at the corner of 48th Street inside the Polsinelli building.

aubrey tyler

Visited JJ’s for 30th birthday, a party of 15. This is supposed to be a 5 star restaurant. Myself and another guess had the Paella For dinner. Got home maybe a hour later and started to have flu like symptoms sweats, vomit, and diarrhea. I knew it was food poison so I phone the other person who ate the paella. She had the same symptoms. I am tried of going out and paying hundreds of dollars and fearing for my life.

Ben Jackson

Best wine selection in KC. Their stake is equally as good.

Jessica N

We went here for a nice date, thinking if they are serving $50 steaks, that it would be a nice place to eat and talk. NOT THE CASE. We could not even hear ourselves talk and we were RIGHT across the table from each other. It was more loud on the "restaurant" side than on the "bar" side. Aside from being a lot more loud than a bar at Power and Light on a Friday, the staff was absolutely terrible. The only person who came around more than one time was the bus boy who was very nice and a hard worker. Lastly, our food was cold. My mashed potatoes felt like they were chilled in the fridge and the steak was not hot at all. The prices are exactly that of the Capitol Grille and 801 Chop house with a way worse environment and less friendly/helpful staff, and cold food. We will definitely not return here.

Eric Woody

We were in a big group and mostly had really good service. Only a couple of times drinks were empty for a few minutes or longer. Food was good and cooked as desired with one exception and manger/supervisor tried to make it right.

Joe Pangborn

We were only the for cocktails. The food we saw did look good, however our cocktails where not that good. My wife sent her Manhattan back and asked for a good whiskey on the rocks. She rarely sends a Manhattan back. I tasted it and agreed it was not good.

Sharon Holmes

Food was outstanding and the service has really stepped up! Very nice!

Tacofingers

Loved the food and some of the best service I have ever seen for a party of 20!

Natasha Ellington

My husband and I chose JJ's for his Birthday celebration. Our waiter Geremeh was the best server we've had in years! He was absolutely pleasant, respectful and deliberately relatable. We enjoyed our first experience at JJ's immensely, our food was delicious but our night would have been lackluster would it have not been for Geremeh and his superior service! We will be back and ask for him specifically. Signed The Missouri State Representative and his wife #TheEllingtons

Brian Dunoski

great service, great food. they went above and beyond for my 40th birthday dinner, could not have been better.

John Slater

Fantastic food and service

Tom From Tulsa

Went for happy hour & stayed for dinner. Bar staff awesome! Outstanding Paco shrimp. Cold smoked pork chop was the best ever. Au Gratin potatoes was just ok. Great whisky & wine by the bottle offering. Wine by the glass selection poor.

Denise Hellstein

JJ's Restaurant was airy and spacious. Our Waitress Teri asked what we would like to have, we told her we would like to have a Chicken Caesar Salad. She said a small or large one? We also told her that we had breakfast that morning and that we were both going to go out for dinner that night. She then said the small one would be best for you, she was so right. I love it when a waitress knows exactly what we would like just by looking at us. The salad and the bread we received was excellent. So ladies I would recommend JJ's for lunch or dinner and don't forget our waitress Teri.

C Hyson

Sadly, a huge disappointment. Pompous wait staff, overpriced, very small portions that were edible but could’ve had at a hospital cafeteria. We chose the restaurant strictly due to their offering of Osso Buco, which was tasty but served by itself and nothing more? Our one night at the Plaza and dinner was wasted here.

YALONDA R

I reserved the private dining room. It was a beautiful room, however, I was not aware of the limited menu options prior to reserving the space. The majority of my party and I had a hard time choosing something we liked on the menu. One thing some of us wanted was calamari but was not offered to people who chose to dine in. It was only available at the bar. Prior to going into the private dining room, we had so much fun being at the bar area of the restaurant so we ended up requesting to go back. They set up the tables for us and we had a great time. Everyone got what they wanted, the food was good and the presentation was great. The staff was also accommodating and professional. I will visit this restaurant again, but only the bar area.

Andy Caraway

Pretty good food. Decent service. Nice new big restaurant with a fabulous patio. This tomato basil soup was okay. A little cool. My pasta Bolognese with Bison was pretty good and hearty but maybe a little heavy on the richness. I will definitely return.

Frank Julian

Absolutely the best overall restaurant in Kansas City. Eclectic tastes from seafood to steaks. Appetizers are each a work of culinary expertise and the chef and kitchen staff deserve a round of applause. Small plates and regular entrees available. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and provided outstanding service. It is expensive but you will get an equal or in our case higher level of service. A true experience that everyone should have the chance to experience + a superb wine selection.

Mindy Upshaw

Beautiful surroundings with stunning food. Ahi cooked just right. Fantastic service.

emily smith

“Amazing Brisket” Had lunch there Christmas Eve and it was fantastic. We picked up 7 lbs. of Brisket and 2 Slabs of Ribs for Christmas Dinner and it was great. Probably the best BBQ in a city filled with great BBQ.

Rod Stewart

Always a great experience. The presentation and taste of the food is top notch.

Andre Hoyt

Google, your fault for not offering 1/2 stars. JJ's has the ambiance, the wine list and the menu to impress. Why not 5 stars? Well, the stars weren't aligned. But still, impressive. I highly recommend....in a nearly 5 star way!

Angela Rochelle

I really wanted to like JJ's more than I actually did. On the plus side, the ambiance is very nice. The cocktails are reasonably priced for the area. The signature shrimp appetizer is delicious! So maybe next time I just have a drink and appetizer at the bar and call it good. At the end of the day it's a restaurant and I came for the food. My entree was bland. With so many delicious food options on the Plaza, I was rather disappointed. So while I have heard good things about JJ's from others, my personal experience was just ok.

Nick H.

Great service. Great food, especially steak. Consider this place for a memorable night out.

Tracey Graham

Yum!!!! Delicious food artfully prepared, excellent service, and outstanding wine list.

Tyson Brewer

My wife and I had enjoyed JJ's before the explosion, it had a nice, fairly quiet, intimate atmosphere. We hadn't been back until this weekend. It is definitely not the same place. The atmosphere and decor is a mix between a Ryan's and an Olive Garden. Plain beige walls with cheesy gold painted trim. And the cheap sheer curtains in the windows? I guess they decided to go cheap on the decor and pocket the rest of the insurance money. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. The nail in the coffin for us was the excessive noise. I can honestly say I have never been in a restaurant that is so loud. My throat hurt from trying to talk to my wife across the table. If you're looking for an intimate place for a date night, don't go to JJ's.

Bonnie House

A group of 6 women went for lunch during restaurant week. We went around the block a couple of times...you know how those one-way streets go...and lucked into the parking garage. A couple of other diners guided us to the restaurant entrance. It was good to have someone to show first-time visitors the way. We were seated promptly and drinks arrived quickly. Taylor, our server, explained the special menu items very well and took great care of us. Food was well-prepared & beautifully presented. Portions were great for lunch. Attractive oversized poster-style art decorated the walls. The bar area is large and well-stocked, and the wine list is the size of the family bible. Many fine wines are available by the glass. Restrooms were easy to find and spacious and spotless. A must visit for a great dining experience.

This place s very fancy and amazing you should really go there and have fun the foods there are very good

Pretty average experience... we were there on a Friday for happy hour, and for some reason their oven was down, the owner or manager was vividly upset, and the service really wasn't very friendly.... might have had something to do with management's demeanor. Too bad, because this used to be a great place to visit... maybe we just caught them on a bad day.

Too loud!

JJ knows how to make his customers happy!!! Great place to go to for dinner or just for drinks.

Had the Black Angus Ribeye. Cast iron skillet seared and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! Thank You!!

Great food and ambiance.

Prefectly cooked steaks, extraordinary service, personable owner, and massive wine list.

Restaurant week. Staff was wonderful, no corners cut. Food was quick well presented and flavorful. I really enjoyed lunch here. It felt spacious and cozy. (They have hot tea)

Noise Level: LOUD! This is no place for a romantic dinner for 2! We truly wanted to enjoy the new JJ's and have a nice lingering romantic dinner. It sadly became a shouting match to hear each other! We actually loaded a decibel meter app and it was anywhere from 90-98 at any given time! The food was decent. However, there were so many large parties around us we were not a priority to our waiter. He was running around like crazy. Another waiter actually noticed we were finished and got us our check. We really wanted to enjoy THIS JJ's but it's just not the intimate place it once was. The bar was actually quieter and our only future possibility. It would also be nice to have some vegan options available other than 'salad.' Sorry JJ's . Giving it a pass next time. Especially for date night.

Food and service was excellent!

The venerable J.J's, always great, country French decor and the best wine list in town.

I go just for the pack shrimp. One of these days, I'll try something else but they are so good.

My wife wanted to take her sister somewhere fancy for her 30th birthday. It was fancy. It was fine. I don't go to enough fancy places to know how good it was in comparison to others.

Gentle John

If you want a really good meal this is the place to go. Their wine menu is so large it is hard to find the food menu. If you want an upscale meal try it!

Michal Heczko

Been here twice, got the first steak on the menu, loved it. What more can you say. A great restaurant, so you gotta dress fancy. Quiet, polite, temperate. The molten chocolate 'brownie' is to die for. Service was fast, polite and friendly.

lil bit of a wait but great atmosphere and smells great inside and out

I was there for lunch during restaurant week. The food was good but not great. The service was superb and the atmosphere was wonderful. This was my first trip since their fire. I'll try them again when it's not so busy.

Karen Toombs

I'm a federal furloughed worker and JJ's gave us free lunch. It was the best burger that I have ever had in my life...and not because it was free. The atmosphere and the employees were wonderful. Thank you so very much JJ's for caring about us more than the elected officials.

Kristina Ning

Every experience here is elegant! The epitome of fine dining in KC. Expansive wine list. Fabulous anniversary meal. Thank you Jimmy!

Tim Persson

My filet was awsome but be advised that the duck ravioli should not be considered a full entree.

Jim Betts

Very upscale dining. Wonderful ambiance, comprehensive wine list.

My book club reserved seating there to try something new. Upon arriving we were told about the happy hour specials, however once some in our party tried to order happy hour foods/drinks, we were told that we could not do so because happy hour isn't available in the dining area. It would have been nice to have received that information upon booking the reservation or once we were originally seated or maybe not even tell us about the specials in the first place if they weren't available to us.
