Tea Love

Well equipped for busy crowds and ready to serve a wide variety of delicious comfort food. The food is made to order and served hot, our wait compared to crowd was relatively low. The atmosphere oozes history and culture and the business that started as a small corner cafe has come very far. Definitely a family oriented experience, the lack of alcohol is not a negative as its made up for by great coffee and cappuccino. Make sure to stop by this corner cafe.

Tried both breakfast and dinner. Have been quite pleased with both meal time visits. The food is enjoyable with no frills. The price point leans a little heavier in my opinion since the sides are not included. Staff is extremely friendly.

When I want fried Chicken this is where I go! But there is nothing on the menu that is bad. I love their salads. It's the only place I actually eat the croutons at. I also love their cinnamon rolls, but they are big enough to feed four. Very reasonably priced with huge portions. It's a family staple in my family.

Stopped in for lunch while doing home visits today. Food was good. You can get breakfast all day. I had the pancakes, they were delicious and the short stack was too much for 1 person. My friend has the turkey sandwich. She said it was very good. Took a look at the cinnamon rolls and pies. Will come back to try them. Service was slow, no drink refills. Good value.

Dad keeps taking us here because there's something for everyone (and their pies are excellent). Don't be afraid by the crowd, it's a large enough place that I've never waited for more than 25 minutes despite the large number of people waiting. Service is fast and the prices are really moderate. The variety on the menu is great and allows everyone to get exactly what they wanted.

Home cookin’! If you are in need of some good old-fashioned comfort food this is the place to come. I’ve tried the four-piece fried chicken, the chicken-fried steak, the pork tenderloin, and tasted most of their delicious pies. Everything is outstanding! A true North KC landmark that any true Midwesterner ought to try. Come hungry!

Had our family dinner here for a birthday celebration and my engagement. The food was great as always but the server was beyond amazing! Savannah congratulated us and had told us about a free pie that the restaurant provides for special occasion. Later on,she found out that the policy did change unfortunately, and was willing to pay for the pie herself. We told her not to worry about it but she was so sweet and insist on getting us a pie. Which we did. So,thank you very much for a sweet gesture.

Two Can Play at that Game

It was alright. The burger was nothing special and the macaroni was pretty alright. The macaroni had that creamy but crumbly texture with a flavorless initial taste with cheese that hits you a few seconds later. Our server had a good heart but she was honestly pretty pushy. Reaching over you to unexpectedly fill your water. The decor in there was really neat, especially the vintage TWA stuff. I wish I would've gotten some pictures of it.

I've eaten lunch here for many years at all locations. Since retiring, I go to Riverside and usually get my order to go. In the last 3 months, there is utter chaos at the front register. About a month ago, I was told my order would be ready shortly. I waited about 45 minutes. I finally asked about my order and was told it was sitting behind the counter and I had failed to tell the proper person I was there. Even though I had given 2 people my name when I arrived. Food was cold and I didn't take it. Tonight I walked in and stood at counter for 20 min waiting while they tried to sort out the person's order two places in front of me. The customer was trying to talk to the cashier to tell her what she ordered. The cashier actually held her hand up in front of the customer's face to make her quit talking. I had never seen anyone treat a customer so rudely! When I was finally waited on, the dessert was missing and I had to wait for them to get it ready. By the time I got home, the food was cold. There was still one poor man waiting for his food that had been in front of me.

Best liver and onions on the planet. Pure vitamin A. Beats the flu shot all to hell. I have it twice a month there during flu season. Have it with the cabbage, lots of pepper and hot sauce. Yum!!!

Went there for lunch today. Hadn't been here for a couple of years since we don't live in the area. My son ordered the meat lovers omelet that came with hash browns and toast. I decided to try there chili topped with finely shredded cheese, green onions and crackers on the side. We both enjoyed our meals and were too full for dessert. They do have a fabulous selection of pies and I can't forget to mention the cinnamon rolls. Prices have gotten kinda high, but you can't go wrong with their breakfast. Their biscuits are large if you want biscuits and gravy. They also have a daily special listed on the menu. We will definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

Usually one of the best places to eat, but not today. We came for dinner hungry and were disappointed in the quality of the food. My husband had the pork chop dinner. Not only was it unappetizing in appearance, he said the meat tasted ‘porky.’ I ordered the fried chicken. While edible, the white piece was medium cool, dry and tough. The dark piece was fairly cool by the time I ate it. Anticipating paying the bill at the front counter, we waited to register our concerns. The waitress took the bill and there was no opportunity to voice our experience. While clearly we ate the food, we won’t be returning to the cafe for quite a while.

We stopped in for a late breakfast and I had a good breakfast and my wife had Patty melt. She said it was the best she has ever had. They were pretty busy but our waitress (Sue) was great. I can drink a lot of coffee and she made sure my cup was always topped off. It is one of our favorite places. If you haven't been there, you need to go.

Chicken and noodles are scrumptious, then the fresh "mile high " dinner rolls, amazing sides. Now dessert.. you are very near heaven when you look at all these goodies being made before your eyes. Second time I have been there. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and a biscuit and gravy. She brought me my breakfast with gravy on my hash browns and half on my omelet and a dry biscuit. The waitress kept trying to sell me that plate when I told her I didn't want gravy on my hash browns and omelet. Her response was " We have a bunch of Mexicans in the kitchen. And you know Mexicans they don't speak English" she took my food back on the same plate. she just scraped the gravy off the omelet. Not very well at that. Took the top layer of the hash browns with gravy still on them and tried to cover it up with another scoop of hash browns. She set it on the table and said "Enjoy" and ran off with a quickness. I was short of yelling trying to catch her with no success. Just bad service today. I guess we all have a bad day once in a while.

We stop in here for dinner whenever we find ourselves in the Northland at the end of a day. The food is always delicious and comforting... just what you'd hope for from a place like this. Service is friendly. Only complaint is that the staff always seems to be struggling operationally: they're inevitably out of a mainstay menu item (pies, daily veggie, cinnamon rolls), or the wait is surprisingly long for a relatively empty dining room. Still, doesn't take away from a great experience... we'll be back!

Very disappointed with my visit to the Independence location this evening. I ordered the meatloaf special and when it came out it looked very good. Little did I know the meat was undercooked and was pink in color inside. I didn't notice at first because it was covered in gravy but when I cut into it I saw it and stopped eating it. The manager was very preoccupied with goofing off with the servers and when our server came over I showed her the meat and watched her take my plate over to the manager, he looked over at me said something to the server and blew me off! No apologies from either the server or manager and billed me full price for my half eaten meal. I will never choose meatloaf from the menu again...if I ever try this restaurant again...Unbelievable is how I'd describe this visit and just hoping I don't get food poisoning from this undercooked meat!

I'm going there tomorrow for a cinnamon roll! The sticky buns are just as good! A Riverside staple, it is packed on Friday and weekend mornings, but the wait staff works hard to keep it rolling while also taking car of the seated customers.

Incredibly good. Great service and if you go early enough there is less people and overall waiting time is less. I had Belgium waffles and egg. Waffle was fluffy and tasted delicious, the egg was perfect. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

A typical Saturday with a long wait, but once our party of ten was seated, the service was very good as was the food. Those of us with food sensitivities will have a difficult time finding items that are gluten, dairy or egg free. Also, no really good vegan options. Sad day for our birthday girl at they were out of cinnamon and sticky rolls.

Cold service and food. Had 5 in our group. We (2) had steak, medium- luke warm. Sent it back. The others had luke warm food as well. The service was as much. Our server/ waiter took partial orders. Continuously we had to ask for something as he was walking away. We definitely had to be on our toes to plan ahead for when he might drop by the table. On one occasion we had to finally ask a passing worker for something that was asked for twice earlier. We heard such raved reviews??? Disappointed. The rolls were good...
