The food was outstanding. My boyfriend ordered the Trio burger and my oh my was it flavorful and cooked to perfection. I loved the brioche bun since it paired perfectly with the sweetness of the caramelized onions. Then the port reduction pulled it all together with it’s sweet touch. I ordered the steak tacos. I appreciated the marinade and tenderness of the steak. The cut of steak was the flank steak, and it was so juicy and tender. There are so many places that overlook this cut of meat, but Cafe Trio did it RIGHT! The spicy kick was fitting but not overwhelming due to the pineapples. Thank you for an amazing birthday lunch!

My partner wanted to make my night special, just because it was Thursday. He made a reservation at Cafe' Trio. He bought an amazing floral arrangement for the table, but forgot the vase. One of the owners (Tai) made sure that he had a vase to put the flowers in before i arrived. I could not tell you how amazing the entire staff is. From the bartenders, the wait staff, the host, the AMAZING CHEF, the Pianist and Tai. I have never had a dinning experience where everything was so perfect. This will always be a special place for us. Thank you for everything!!

My mother, husband and I came here for my birthday on September 9th. When you sign up to receive emails, you will receive a free birthday entree. So, we decided to give it a whirl. Mind you, this was our first time so we weren't for sure about the ins and outs of the restaurant. We entered through the back stairwell. Whoops! But, it worked out okay. We were seated by a not so friendly host (she had reddish brown hair and wore glasses.) But, we decided to move from a booth and go seat at a table. My mother is elderly so a table was more feasible for her to get in and out. So, the hostess comes and moves our menus from the previous table and slammed, seriously slammed, them onto our new table. Didn't know seating was that big of a deal!?! Then our server was a bit out of sorts as well. I had mentioned that tonight was my birthday. And, the first hing she said was that I couldn't order from the happy hour menu since I had a birthday coupon. Uh okay. Thanks for saying happy b-day to me. Geesh!! Truthfully, it would not have mattered anyway. But, her tone was very standoffish. Overall, the food was good. But, the service was sub-par. Get rid of the seating nazis and standoffish servers and we will be back.

My girlfriend and I love this place! The atmosphere is really nice with changing local art displays and we really love the live music when they have it. Great for a fancy night out that isn't going to break the bank! Definitely recommend the country fried chicken plate as well as the Mac Daddy. Delicious!

The waiter never brought our items we asked for, never checked on us after the food was served. Only thing he did was bring a bill. The food was not great. Definitely not worth another trip.

My friend had the burger/fries and couldn't finish and took it to go.

So our first time here was for a Valentine's lunch. It definitely will not be our last. The atmosphere is very classy and warm. Gives off a high end vibe and comfy feel all wrapped into one. They have a piano player in the evenings tue through sat. The wall decor in the main lobby is switched out every couple months to feature kc's different local artist. The art work was captivating. I found myself staring at all them for some period of time in between enjoying bites of my delicious dishes. I want to try the other meals they have to offer but maybe after our next visit. Because I already know when we go back I will be ordering exactly what I had last time. I'm already craving more and we just went yesterday. I had the Seafood lasagna and the Tuscan flatbread appetizer. Nothing but compliments for this restaurant from surroundings, service and food. A+ I forgot to mention the salmon chowder. This is must get. So delicious. Also the pink sparkle lit lotus tree that reaches up the ceiling peaking out above the wall behind the piano. I want one in my art studio now! Beautiful

Great retro atmosphere but a bit on the noisy side. Deck is too hot on a hot summers afternoon but is great at cooler times. Service was great. Lucky was our waitress. Wine was well priced and selection is good. Food was out of this world, steak and salmon were both cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Always a lovely experience in a hip location just of the plaza. Beautiful dining room and huge outdoor patio, make this a must for delicious food and flavorful cocktails. We loved the diver sea scallops and the beef short ribs were melt in your mouth. Great happy hour specials and delightful piano player makes this place special. When I first arrived, I was fully prepared to give this place a 3-star or maybe even 2. I had a rough day that didn't include lunch- I found myself sitting at the bar at 5pm on the nose. Happy Hour! I was ignored for the first 15 minutes...not an impressive start. I travel a lot and when I do I like to try local places- the hotel said the place across the street was good but there was better. They got it wrong...this place is a must stop.

Easily the best meal I've had since moving to Kansas City 10 months ago. The staff are so warm and friendly. The atmosphere is perfect - lively and buzzing, not loud and crowded. The wonderful pianist was the cherry on top. Expect to pay a lot for a meal with drinks, but it is worth every penny.

Great patio to hit up year around for an early start to a Happy Hour. Good variety of options, although food portions are small. (Hamburger is really a slider.) I was a little bothered that the server offered me flavor options when I ordered tea, but didn't explain that a flavor meant a bottled tea. I hate the waste of plastic and also I wanted a bottomless soft drink to go alongside my cocktails. We had a party of five and we were drinking and eating steadily, yet at one point they told us we needed to tab out because someone had reserved that table. Seems weird to me to have a specific patio table reserved, and to kick out paying customers.

Went in for a late dinner. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Started off with the crab cakes. They were sp delicious looking that my friend and I began eating them before I thought to take a photo. The Fig Manhattan was terrific with notes of allspice, cardamom, and fig added to the classic Manhattan profile. The patio (still enclosed for the early spring chill was inviting and lively. The Divers scaled with risotto and a roasted root vegetable hash was great with a perfect sear and tender toothsome texture. My companion had the seafood risotto with mussels, shrimp and scallop. Service was friendly and well paced. Even though we came in late, we were not rushed and it was a great experience. Jeremy made sure we're had everything we wanted and enjoyed our meal.

This restaurant is a great upscale option in dining near the plaza. They have many different options for food and drinks, all of which are well prepared. Their prices are a little expensive, but for the atmosphere, service, and food, it is worth it. I go there fairly regularly and the staff remember me and are always very friendly. You don't want to miss this place if you are near the plaza.

Terrific experience. It had been snowing all day and was blistering cold. As soon as we got in, we were sat and offered hot cups of water to hold and warm our hands. Our waitress was very attentive and offered excellent advice on food selections. The filet was extremely tender and cooked to perfection. The seafood lasagna was incredible. Would highly recommend.

Cafe Trio is a lovely restaurant on the east side of the plaza - be careful not to miss it, it’s located right on Main St across from the Nichols fountain! There is parking available on the back. Happy hour is very good and the food is delicious. They often have live music and there is a piano in the dining area. The back patio is great too (I enjoyed the fancy lights and lighting in the pics here). Great place for a date night

Held a dinner party in their event room. Room was gorgeous, it overlooked the downstairs dinner area. There was live music, my compliments to the gentleman playing the piano. Now for the food, drinks, and service. Food was outstanding, all I heard were raves from the attendees. Had appetizers, all served hot and were delicious. Everyone choose a meat dish, hanger steak, filet, or rib eye. To say the least their plates were clean when they done and ready for dessert. The waiter was excellent with the wine and drink recommendations, very knowledgeable. How can I say more, excellent food, excellent service, excellent atmosphere.

My new favorite place in KC! The risotto was amazing and their Mac n cheese is to die for! Our waiter was very thoughtful and attentive. The manager who sat us was nice, but not friendly.. my tanqueray and tonic was exceptional. I love the vibe here! They have a gorgeous bar, dining room, patio and even some small private rooms upstairs. There is a piano for life music as well. Everything about this place was fabulous. I was there for a pre-arrangep group gathering. Ended up with about 17 people. This place charged $45 per person to serve what was basically appetizers. Flat bread pizza, I think there were 4 or 5 the size of a dinner plate, two tubs of mac&cheese, 1 dinner plate of grilled vegetables and 1 of small chicken or steak kabobs. Small family sized mixed greens, and a small area of about 1 dozen slices if 3 kinds of cheese and a few half dollar sized crackers. Oh yes..and some of the tiniest cupcakes I have ever seen..but they were tasty. No drinks were included except water. This is not someplace you will want to hold a gathering..Way too much money for what you get And definitely not worth it.

We had a group dinner, about 30 people, and the staff and food were perfect! I commented to one of our guests on the professionalism of our servers. The food was prepared very nicely and all guests were happy. The room is in the back and up a few stairs, so there is no interruption from other diners. We will come back to Cafe Trio.
