REVIEWS OF Bluestem IN Kansas

Chris Adrian

The multi-course meals are very good... But very pricey. I'm not sure I'd say my meal was "worth it". I would like to go back and just eat off the much cheaper bar menu.

Vivian Taylor

I cannot say enough good things about Bluestem! We had an absolutely marvelous experience. We've spent some time in Michelin star restaurants and this is definitely on par with them. The food was edible art and the wine pairings were perfectly on point. Make a resy now! You will not be disappointed! So, when we set eyes on the menu, we were both concerned. This is one of those places, though, that you go in knowing to trust the chef. The combinations and flavors were impeccable. I promise... you won’t go wrong here. Service was very attentive and kind and the food?... AMAZING.

Jia Li

Amazing experience with a 7 course meal. Each course was delightfully unique and delicious. We were worried we might be hungry with the small plates but we were all quite full and satisfied by the end.

Jose Miller

We arrived a little early and was seated immediately at a prefect corner booth. Our waitress Christina was fabulous and answered our every question. The food was better than we could have imagined. Other than being a little pricey, the experience was perfect. We will be back.

Joshua

My go to brunch place. I'm never disappointed.

Rick Williams

Stunning and exquisite. Would give 6 stars if available.

Princess Leia

Always a delight to visit Bluestem. I feel truly blessed to live in a town with such an incredible restaurant. Every meal, every wine, every pairing, and every service is always complete perfection. If I had to choose, I'd recommend the vintage ribeye, it's the essence of perfection. Do go and enjoy, you won't be disappointed!

Aidea S.

Best place for cuisine and wine pairings brilliant little wines found no where else! Love this place!

Sarah Schmidt

We went for my Birthday and the food was AMAZING. My significant other is super simple and LOVED the food as well. Can't wait to go again!!

Ben Parker

What an amazing little spot! We've been here twice. It's a 4 hour drive. The first time we were in town for vacation and heard Bluestem had great food. We came as a family the youngest being 9. The drinks, the food, the atmosphere, the service, all top notch! Bluestem is the benchmark we have held many higher end establishments against. When asked what our little one wanted for her birthday she said she wanted to go to Bluestem. Being foodies ourselves our jaws dropped. We said it's a long journey and a big night out, you would have to choose between presents and this dinner/ mini vacation. Without hesitation she said she wanted her Bluestem courses. Well, we called ahead and made reservations. To our surprise when we showed up they had printed special 10th birthday menus for our daughter as well as prepared a special 7 course menu. Everyone was blown away! They really go above and beyond, this is the kind of place that deserves a 6th star, or a diamond rating.

Terry Anderson

We went on our usual Friday night at 6 pm. Except as noted in the summation everything in the courses was superior. The soup the pasta and the scallops were excellent. Where we different was the meat course. I had the pork loin and she had the duck. After she finished the duck she waited a while to finish dessert because she want to savor the experience. I on the other hand was disappointed the loin was very difficult to cut and was hard to chew. Each piece seemed to have some connective tissue that simply would not fall apart.

Shannon Lionheart Martin

There are several words I can drum up to describe the treatment I received at Bluestem, but let me limit it one: shoddy. No, wait, remembering the manager patting our shoulders time and again, I would add: patronizing. I get the feeling that your experience at Bluestem can depend massively on who you are and possibly even on how you look.

Peter Pakdel

Amazing dinner for my wife and I. Despite doing a Paleo diet the staff and chefs were endlessly aware of our dietary restrictions and created a custom 7 course dinner based on those restrictions. It was delectable and fantastical. The service was splendid and the wind was well paired with every bite. Definitely a must go and go and go...

Eduard Pogosov

Loved it! This place is top notch!

Alexandra Charmley

Had a wonderful time. Food is flawless

Amazing cuisine

Andrea Bosnak

love this place :)

Jillian Olsson

Great spot to grab a late night cocktail. Bartenders are very knowledgeable and willing to make a drink for you that's not on the menu to your liking.

Christian Trozzolo

Great service, atmosphere was cozy, lot of random mirrors on the wall lol, the meat and cheese platter was fun, great Italian meats, cheeses and even their own olives! Also a Great drink selection. Would definitely go back.

Jonathan Lyons

The best part of the dinner was the garlic French fries. The linguini and clams was bland, the crab pasta tasted fishy. Not planning on returning any time soon.

C Painter

A “hair” raising experience! Good food and service but disappointed about the lack of care when a hair was found in our rabbit. Unfortunately they charged full rate for something that was inedible. I don’t give 1 Star to any restaurants, but really.... $265??

HJ K

Everything was excellent

Terry Buffum

Bluestem never fails to surprise and delight all the senses.

Ashley Irwin

Pork chop is a must. Even if you like steak more than pork chop (that's me), get the pork chop. The hanger steak is good, but the pork chop is out of this world. Quality drinks. Helpful staff. This place just became a regular for me. (Bacon popcorn pictured. Yum).

Rupal Gupta

Absolutely remarkable experience. Careful attention to detail and impeccable ingredients. A true highlight in Kansas City dining and better than a Michelin star restaurant we ate at recently in Chicago.

Jenna Miller

Bluestem was a great place for my boyfriend and I’s anniversary. We ate in the dining room and loved watching in the kitchen! I had the rabbit cappelletti which I could eat everyday of for the rest of my life. We’ve also eaten on the bar side and the snacks are delicious we love the fried cauliflower! Service is also awesome!

Shelly Papadopoulos

The food was phenomenal and the extras sent out from the chef made our night. If you are looking for a quiet place to have a very nice dinner with an interesting take on combinations of foods, this is a place to check out.

L Malburg

Pretty good restaurant, but with stratospheric prices for the multi course meals. But one can get a taste of it with the bar menu.

Victoria Kishinevsky

Love the lounge, the food and the drinks! The dining room experience was also great. We always have a terrific time with our friends at Bluestem. Can’t wait to go back!

King Kong

The Ribs, The Ribs, The Ribs, The Ribs,.

Judith Dawson

Food is fresh & delicious. Love the decor. Service was great, I forgot our server's name but they definitely are on top of their game. Overall, great experience.

Susan Smith

The little bit we had to eat was good

Caroline Dickinson

Best dining experience I've ever had!

Lisa Gunderson

Bar food is not to be missed. Affordable taste of the best restaurant in KC.

Allyn Thomas

Amazing place

Jason White

If you want Kansas City's most expensive 0.9 ounce steak then this is the place for you! This was my first "high class, tasting menu" type of restaurant experience and boy oh boy do I guess this kind of thing just isn't for me. I can't say the food wasn't tasty but I can say that the portion sizes were underwhelming for the 230 dollars I spent on dinner. Literally anywhere else will give you a better "bang for your buck."

Blake Hodges

Bluestem never disappoints! It's always a favorite to pop in for a drink and bar bite when we're in the area. (It's really good for a full dinner, too!)

Daisy Murphy

We arrived early and we seated quickly. Our table was near the plating station, which was okay - it was fun to watch them work. The service was quite good, sort of a group effort as we had numerous wait staff check on us. We elected to enjoy a five course meal with wine pairings. The timing and portions of the courses was impeccable. The food was delicious and this is one of the better experiences I've had with wine pairings in KC. I enjoyed all but one immensely. It was quite pricey, which was expected.

Amber Maledy

Wonderful service and beyond amazing food. I would highly suggest going the 5 course with the wine pairing!

Ben Harris

Amazing as always.

S Vaughn

I give this a higher rating because it is located in Kansas City. It IS one of the best/top for this city for fine dining, yet typical for major cities. Highly recommend for locals for special occasions, fine dining for visiting from major cities. But cannot say this offers anything so unique worth 5 stars for the price or service . Recommend though if looking for fine dining, price not an issue. Perfect~!

J Brown

Amazing food. A bit pricey though.

Wouter Blok

This is the best dinner I've had in the US of A, period. It's great french cuisine where the chef uses the most exquise ingredients such as Saffron, Foie Gras, caramelized white chocolate, etc. There are 5 courses of each you can chose 2 (of the dessert there are 4). If you don't want to chose, you can have 10! The matching wines you should not skip. All of them have 4+ stars on Vivinio. Great service.

Jessica Kapperman

The atmosphere was lovely and the food was absolutely delicious! I will certainly be returning.

Sarah Foltz

This place is spendy, but the food is out of this world good. I like both the restaurant and the bar side, but the bar is more casual and where I am more likely to visit again soon. Shout out to Jake, he is a super bartender!

bryce volk

Best burger I've had in Kansas city is on this bar menu

Dave Anderson

Possibly the best meal I've ever eaten

Haneen Ibrahim

I love this place! Amazing food and I pretty much spend all my time here.

Robert Lawrence

We were disappointed with our experience at the Bluestem. The food was lovely, but the wines, which were supposed to be paired with our five course flight, were lackluster at best. We spent $400.00 and would not have thought anything of it if the Bluestem had lived up to its hype and reputation.

Walter Earenfight

"Service very slow (Tuesday night), dead bugs in light fixtures near table."

Jessica Best

An excellent experience for a special occasion!

Benjamin Wilke

Excellent progressive menu. Been there multiple times, always great service and food. Recommend reservations and allow at least 2hrs if you get the 5 course option. Also plan on about $125 per person. Well worth every penny.

Vanilla T

One of the best restaurant in Kansas City for date. We made appointment for dinner menu, and we had a chance to try all the food in the menu! Very uniquely and delicious

Jamie Olson

Extraordinary food experience. I did not expect a place like this in KC. Quite pricey but really memorable.

Kirk Becker

Last night was my first time at bluestem and the second time I've been in the KC area. Before we started I explained to the waiter that I was going to propose to my lovely girlfriend. He was so incredibly helpful, he even helped film the moment! After being congratulated by everyone we started with some delicious cocktails and proceeded to our meal. I have a little culinary background as I am a kitchen manager and have had the pleasure of working at a fine dining establishment. This was next level! I can't explain how great the food and service was. This was such a terrific experience I plan to have our anniversarys here! Can't wait to come back. And if anyone from the restaurant is reading this from the bottom of my heart thank you for making our special night even better. Neither one of us will ever forget this moment.

Angie Sutton

Amazing experience every time! The staff, the sommelier, the chef. Great for a fancy, fun dinner on the town.

Pirmin Kopta

Creative course dinner with unique dishes that were delicious. Unique and delicious is hard to do both right at the same time

Steve Hartig

Great dinner that my wife and I very much enjoyed. We had the five course dinner with wine pairing. I started with the carrot salad which had a great flavor while my wife had pea soup which had a nice fresh taste. We both moved on to pasta carbonara which was fantastic. Pasta very nicely done with a good al dente mouth feel. Then on to the olive oil poached halibut for both of us which was luscious and very tasty. Next course was the scallop which was nicely cooked and the scallop itself was great. I then had the sheep cheese for dessert which was good but maybe not up to the standard of the rest of the courses. The wine pairings were spot on and the sommelier gave great explanations. Service overall was great with one slip up-my dessert, wine and espresso all came at the same time so the espresso was cold by the time I got to it. However a minor item in a great meal

Kyle Bennett

The best in KC!

Yehoshua Klaußen

Start to finish amazing. It's expensive but well worth it. Service was top notch.

Kelli McMullen

Hendricks Happy Hour was so much fun. Amazing food!

Magna K

Beautiful place and top notch ambience in the heart of Kansas City, Westport.

Sheep Dog

This is our second time visiting BlueStem. The food was good and service was excellent as expected. What was unsettling having an open air kitchen, I observed the gentleman with the strawberry blonde beard touch his face and stroke his beard, then touch food he was placing on the plates numerous times.

Carlos Verdin

I had the pleasure of indulging in one of the greatest meal experiences at any restaurant.

Jana Kortje

Great for a fancy dinner, but check out the bar for a more casual night. The food is fantastic either way and the cocktails are among the best in KC.

alex tapia

Brunch was very good here!

Maria Ginger-wiley

Perfection on a plate!

Chase Nelson

Phenomenal. Best food in KCMO. Order the course meal, you're welcome.

Sally Joy

This is my favorite restaurant in KC. The food is amazing and the presentation is a piece of art. From start to finish, every bite is exquisite. Bluestem is an experience to remember! Love this place!

Justin Graves

Fantastic! Excellent, fine-dining food in a more laid-back atmosphere (in Westport) than you get with somewhere like The American. This is, quite possibly, the best dining experience I've had in Kansas City. Highly recommended.

Tyson Barnes

Great food!

Jessica Meuse

Super hip bar and restaurant with great food and service. The tartare was a little bland, but I really enjoyed the shishito peppers and the melon soup was better than I could have imagined! It’s a very ambient, chill atmosphere - not too loud at all - which I really liked.

David Porth

Great food, and atmosphere, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good wines, just a lot of $$$

Teah McLaughlin

Went here for mother’s day high tea today and i would definitely not recommend. We arrived 10 minutes early, and they seated us at the bar. I paid over $100 for this over 2 months ago and we didn’t even get a nice table like others did. (Flowers clean table) All the other tables were nicely decorated in the other room and ours weren’t. Not only that but it was freezing as we were right by the door in the bar. We asked this waitress to move and said she would ask the hostess and that the hostess would come talk to us, which no one did. The waitress actually didn’t even come back to us. I was so excited to spoil my mother on mother’s day and we both said we wouldn’t come back. We were served tea, but it didn’t come with milk or sugar?? Which it normally does. The service wasn’t great, and we kept having to ask for tea and cutlery. I’m not impressed for the price we paid, the arrangement they sat us at, and the service. I would save your money and go elsewhere as we went after.

maria luna

They totally remodeled this place to spacious and modern. Great upscale restaurant with great food and drinks. As long as your wallet is great to match. 3oz wine for $7? Happy hour 6 oz for 9 oz costs $14,Who heard that?

Gail Carroll

Food so inventive and delicious that we are coming back day after tomorrow before we leave town. We did 3 courses with wine pairings. Next we will do 5 courses with wine. Brilliant!

Sean Scully

The food was spectacular and the prices reflected that. Service was exceptional.

Maggie Stubbs

Great happy hour specials on tasty appetizers and creative drinks. Cozy, inviting atmosphere and wonderful service.

Sherry Carpenter

Bluestem restaurant has its great reputation. attentive, but casual and not overdone. The combinations in the 5-course tasting menu were interesting and overall delicious.- This is a pretty expensive restaurant (plan on at least $250 for a couple) and while I would still recommend it as most of the dinner was great (the rabbit pasta dish was absolutely tremendous), I caution you that it may not be the perfection you might expect. Great wine and atmosphere for cosy chats with a close friend. Service was great.

Ben Baczwaski

Amazing food with amazing service to match. Great date night restaurant!

Andrew Fontes

Best desert I've ever had great drinks too.

Forrest Schaeffer

Worth the hype.

Kim Lewis

I cannot say enough good things about Bluestem! We had an absolutely marvelous experience. We've spent some time in Michelin star restaurants and this is definitely on par with them. The food was edible art and the wine pairings were perfectly on point. Make a resy now! You will not be disappointed! Great place for casual dining, just drinks, or a special meal with or without wine pairings. The food is excellent!!! The service is consistently fine. The dining experience will not disappoint you. Highly recommended!!!

Selena Hiett

First impression of staff/owner? wasn’t the best, kinda looked at me like I was a bug when I walked in, haha. The green salad is good and the lamb is outstanding. You can choose 3-10 courses but 3 should be enough because the portions are big. The food is presented nicely. I didn’t have a dedicated waitperson but one of the three was good (not the one I was originally assigned). It might not be a good idea to dine alone. They may forget about you. Or maybe they didn’t like the looks of me, it was late, etc. who knows? For a place with a tasting menu and a James Beard nominated chef this place is very cheap...

Fred Hudson

Lovely atmosphere. Very attentive staff. The food was great! My wife and I truly think that this was one of the very freshest, most delicious meals we've had in years! This was a great dining experience. Will definitely come back again.

Best. Meal. Ever.

Tayler Delzell

Everything... just everything.

Suzie K

The best brunch you will have in your life. Amazing dinners to boot.

Theodore Brimeyer

Incredible tastes as well as inventive techniques and new uses for ingredients. Would highly suggest the wine pairings for each course served by the very knowledgable sommelier. Almost nothing to criticize here. Wish the service overall was a bit more warm, laid-back, and personal - came across as terse and rushed a couple times over the course of our meal. Great place for a spendy special occasion. Their "choose your number of courses" menu allows diners to come back more frequently on normal days too at a more reasonable price point.

Nick Stone

If you love all the good places in midtown westport area, then this place will be superb! I love my Room 39, Corner Cafe Restaurant for breakfast, and Thomas for lunch, Bluestem, all the above! Just put it at the top of your places to go if you're a newcomer. I'm lucky to be able to walk to it. Bring your wallet, but it's worth every bit, you'll walk out without a thought about your ticket-price and how much your meal was, nearly invaluable : ), It's my Sunday hangover spot on occassion as well.

Darkened Kielhorn

Every bite a happy bite!

Victoria Midgorden

Bluestem consistently serves some of the best food in the world. I recommend the 10 course tasting menu.

Eunice Ortiz

I cannot say enough good things about Bluestem! We had an absolutely marvelous experience. We've spent some time in Michelin star restaurants and this is definitely on par with them. The food was edible art and the wine pairings were perfectly on point. Make a resy now! You will not be disappointed! From the interesting and unique menu to the excellent preparation and presentation, and from the wine pairings to the top-notch service, this restaurant is a must-do in Kansas City. The ambiance is very casual, but they are serious about the food and it shows. Great spot

Golden Rule

My daughter and I recently went to Blue Stem for dinner. Where we dropped over $160 in cash - that's without any drinks/extras. Prior to making our reservation, I called Blue Stem and told them I would be using an expired $80 Groupon. They initially gave me a hard time about accepting the Groupon at all, but finally agreed to honor their contractual obligations to accept the Groupon for the original purchase price ($40) .... which, as it says right there at the top of every Groupon: "will never expire." "Never" here is probably used to connote the condition of .... neverness. (And speaking of never, I have been using Groupons for many years, and have NEVER received this kind of rude, unprofessional flak from a participating business over the standard usage rules.) I gave our waiter the Groupon before he took our order. When he brought us our check, my daughter noticed that the Groupon had not been deducted, so we had to ask that it be redone. He brought us a revised check and everything looked (looked) fine. Other than what we assumed was an honest mistake on the check, he was a great waiter, so we left a generous tip. But here's where it gets Alice in Wonderland: When I got home that night and looked more closely at the check, I saw that, despite the receipt listing a $40 ($20 x 2) deduction, in fact only $20 had been deducted. Again, the $40 purchase price was both PROMISED by the man taking our reservation (after some unpleasant static) and is absolutely REQUIRED in the universal rules. So I called Blue Stem and spoke with owner Jeremy. He gave me a huge, pissy argument, and asked me when the Groupon expired (Price of tea in China, and this is a Groupon in Neverland). Jeremy kept insisting no mistake had been made at all; that they deliberately deducted only $20 because "$20 is all the Groupon is worth to us." (That's my problem? I guess it was.) So, this situation was actually much worse than a careless, honest mistake .... one that is normally redressed with: We're so sorry, how can we make it right? I think the word here is "greed." And the message is: "You can just kiss our 5-course posterior if you don't like it." I tried, in vain, to get this man to put himself in his customer's shoes and understand that this really could not be more simple: Blue Stem, just like all other participants, needed to honor the Groupon rules - not to mention the explicit assurance they had given when I made the reservation that we would be credited the full (and required) purchase value. Talking to a wall. Over a trifling sum of money that was way less than the tip we left. Probably two drinks in that place. And I was the one being petty and difficult. Jeremy said, "I'm not going to get into this with you," and added that this is why they will never do a Groupon again - because of "all these arguments" they get into with their customers over use of the Groupons. Was not surprised to hear that. Well, just to make me go away and endure no more of my crazy sense of fairness and obsession with the contractual rules, Jeremy finally decided to do me a big fat favor and said he'd run a $20 refund on my credit card. When I told him we paid cash, he asked if I wanted a gift card. No thank you, please just send me a check to replace the cash we were o-v-e-r-c-h-a-r-g-e-d. Ok, he says, he'll send me a check. And now the coup de grâce: Several days later I get a letter from Blue Stem with a .... GIFT CARD! (no check, much less an apology) and a note worth framing: ".... Enclosed is a gift card as Groupons are not redeemable for cash. We look forward to your next reservation." - Megan Garrett, Owner What planet are these people on? Business 101: The rules is the rules. And they are totally fair to everyone: This is a very pricey, extravagant establishment; not the kind of dump where you expect (or are paying for) this type of rude, bean-counting smallness. If the customer isn't always right (especially when he clearly IS right) in a place like this .... well, I don't even know what to say.

Keith Anderson

Great way to kick off the 31st year of my life. “Let thy food be thy medicine, and they medicine be thy food”. Item Nine shout it from the rooftops!!!

Marc Timoteo

We had the best time here experiencing a 10-course tasting menu. It was great!!!

Stephen O'Brien

So beautiful! Great food and fantastic service!

James McEwen

The food was excellent and the service was great. They worked with us before and during the meal to accommodate dietary needs. This is a high end restaurant.

John Xu

Well, I like to describe places like this as fancy new American. Multiple courses, big plates, smallish portions, and a big open kitchen. However, even though it sounds pretentious, it was an amazing experience. We came here for a co-workers birthday, and the first thing we saw on the printed menu was happy birthday "name". They printed custom menus for the birthday guy. Awesome! We choose the 5 course menu, so glad we did that instead of the 10 since the pacing is not quick (but not slow either). Started with amuse bouche of fallafel. Great. Went to pea soup. Delicious. Moved on to ricotta cappelletti. Amazing. Sea Scallops. Divine. Lamb. Heavenly. Dessert... you get the picture. Sommelier was great and accommodating, they have a very decent wine selection. Service was on point, and the breads were delicious.

Kyle Dorsey

Happy hour is great, fries are awesome

GM Sanders

went with high hopes and left a bit disappointed. the 5 course meal was not well paced - we were there for nearly 2 hours and when we asked if the last 2 courses could be served more quickly, the server told us that we "should have said you were in a hurry". the wine pairings were great and the food was very good. not the best meal ever, and not what it aspired to be, but enjoyable. have no plans to return except for cocktails.

Wayne Hackworth

I had a lovely experience eating here. The place was easy to find and convenient. Delicious set of meals that filled in my hungry tummy. So yummy!

EA LEATHERS

Best place in KCMO!

Inventive. The most interesting and still delicious food I've ever had.

Shana White

Everything was exceptional. Food. Services presentation.

elfstone21

Great food. Cool experience. Great place for an important day, but it is expensive so b prepared.

Virgil Abueg

Wonderful 10-course tasting menu. Do it. Cocktail program is great, too.

J H

Very long wait time despite making a reservation a days in advance and putting down a 50 dollar deposit. Staff was very rude when asked about the wait saying they had no control over seating and telling me it would be ready when it was ready. Dining staff was so disinterested at one point a waitress poured water on our table while trying to refill a cup and walked away without noticing. Food was very bland, one of the main courses tasted like someone had held a scallop over a campfire before setting it on a plate next to half a raw carrot and onion and then poured lukewarm carrot juice on top. Drinks were empty and never refilled or even inquired about, waitstaff had to be flagged down if you wanted anything. Extremely overpriced. Not only would I not recommend it I would highly advise avoiding this restaurant.

Kim Simons

Great meal. Wonderful service.

Luke Wadsworth

Stopped in for dessert, incredible experience! Sat at the pastry bar and watched Jess make works of art. We enjoyed cocktails and banter with Jess before experiencing a mind-blowing souffle with caramel sauce and delectable macaroons. Exquisite!

Eric Borlaug

Very good restaurant with a great happy hour. The dinner menu is a bit pricey for the quality (and certainly the quantity). Decent Sunday brunch (Cafe Sebastienne is much better). I would go for happy hour and share the excellent shrimp and grits and the meat and cheese plate with a friend or two.

Daniel Sucher

Brunch is just OK and overpriced. Coffee is good. Not many vegetarian options.

Christina Watson

One of my favs!

OurCrazyBeautifulSparkly Life

Recently visited KC. Myself and guest chose the 5 course meal with wine pairings. The service was outstanding. The sommelier was knowledgeable and attentive. The open kitchen is great to see in action. It is not a large venue which seems by design to offer a personal dining experience. Every course was special. The dessert was nothing short of amazing. I wanted to lick my plate (frowned upon, or I may have) It is a James Beard awarded establishment and well deserved. Bravo to the owners.

Colin Ashby

I love Blue Stem for happy hour. The dining room is amazing but crazy expensive. Great cocktails and good apps that are reasonable.

Monica Winter

Hands down my favorite restaurant. I get the best service, the food is always incredible, and the drinks, which are ever changing, are seriously out of this world. They are doing everything right.

Erica Rausch

Most of the food was great! We got a little confused at first because 3 different servers came up to our table to take a drink order and tell us they'd be with us shortly. My boyfriend's first drink was very bland but they happily switched it out. The parsnip soup, carbonara, and lamb were all delicious and presented beautifully. My boyfriend loved the pork belly as well. I'm being a little hard on the rating, I may have expected slightly better because of the James Beard Award but the appetizers and dessert didn't blow me away (banana bread was overcooked and too hard to cut through). Overall, really enjoyed it but had higher expectations than what I got.

Christopher Harsch

This is an amazing restaurant, with an amazing bar and an amazing staff. I go here every year to celebrate birthdays with the 10 course tasking menu, and when I want impress out of state friends I take them to dinner in the main dining room or the bar. I love that you can get fine dining quality bar food, along with a great selection of cocktails and wine.

Jake Ortner

Best in KC! Love this place!

Miyu Toyoshima

The place is fairly small, which I loved. Our server was great. She was informative and polite. Although most things on the menu was good, the scallops were a complete no-go for this Japanese family. I ate them but my mom refused after taking one bite. The wine pairings were ok, I think I chose way too many dishes (somehow) that always had sweet white wine as their pairing (I had Champagne, Moscato, and Riesling). I just don't think it was the bang for my buck. I'm a big foodie and willing to dish out a price as long as it is worth it... (Next in Chicago, Bacchanalia in Atlanta, etc) but this place just didn't seem to be what I expected. I like their happy hour though!

Michael Jeter-Boldt

In my opinion, the best restaurant in Kansas City, and it's not even close.

Frank Charmley

Pricey but so fun and great vibe

Placher Sieben

Best restaurant in town. Be forewarned though, Bluestem is PRICEY!!!

Aaron Decker

Best restaurant in Kansas City. Bluestem has worn the KC crown for best high end eats for awhile and there's no reason to think that title is being vanquished anytime soon. Attention to detail and expertly prepared cuisine is the focus and norm for this KC mainstay. Be prepared to pony up the pocketbook for your meal, but it's warranted... it's not a "is there a kid's menu" type of place. Each night features a chef tasting menu in which patrons can choose from 3, 5 and 7 course meals that can be accompanied with wine appropriately paired by the house sommelier. The main dining room gives off warmth and intimacy with diners getting courtside seats to the kitchen, that is open and allows all to eye chef's preparing and plating the various courses that delight. Anyone looking for an elite dining experience in Kansas City area should add Bluestem to its list of places to visit. It's truly enjoyable.

Alyssa Villanueva

Just finished an AMAZING anniversary dinner and we officially now have a new favorite. Such an awesome experience and every bit was perfection. Can't wait to go back!

Peter Linenberger

I am usually not a very adventurous eater but tonight I wanted to try some new things with my family. We had the seven course dinner and everything I had was absolutely amazing. The chefs have an amazing way of making every flavor explode and be on the brink of too much without going over the line.

The best fine dining in Kansas City.

Teases your tongue with fabulous food!

Fantastic meal! We love to try new things and this was a wonderful experience. The 3 course was plenty for us. Large portions. Had some to take home for tomorrow. Sea scallops and steak were perfect, appetizers and desert were the highlights. We recommend it, when you are looking for a high quality dining experience. Art on a plate - more than great presentation - amazing taste!

Some good friends, my husband, and I had the privilege of enjoying dinner at Bluestem yesterday night. It. Was. PHENOMENAL. We were seated next to the kitchen, and I was in awe throughout the night at how quiet, efficient, and professional the entire kitchen staff worked. We chose the 10 course dinner, and were overwhelmed, in the most pleasant of ways. Each course was carefully composed and artfully plated. Every single thing we ate was spot on. The service was beyond excellent. This is an excellent choice for a special night out, particularly if you appreciate the culinary arts and fine dining. I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I look forward to checking out the bar side of the restaurant next time!

My wife and I loved this culinary adventure. We enjoyed 5+ excellent courses. Perfect for a special night.

Chad Leathers

Overrated, rude, great wine list though.. I enjoyed drinking there

My favorite brunch place!

The food was terrific. The serving staff did not appear too happy. Did not appreciate us asking so many questions but that is their job to explain the food. This was my friends birthday. When I made the reservation they asked if they could do a little birthday celebration. When he asked for 2 desserts, the server looked at him, I said oh come on it is his birthday. She walked away. There was one server and she always had a smile and was very pleasant. So all was not lost.

My husband and I’s favorite date night place. Cozy and eclectic with hip new drinks and tasty food. Service is ALWAYS top notch. We have been here for every anniversary ... year 5 is coming up! I just recently went with a few girl friends and we had so much fun sharing small plates in the bar area and the drinks just don’t have words to explain how good they are! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the staff for making our evening special! The food was wonderful. Each dish is a work of art composed with a pallet of unique flavors ranging from light and delicate to rich and bold. We are definitely going back!

It is always a pleasure and special opportunity to dine at this icon in the Kansas City restaurant scene.

Had a table right next to the kitchen. It was marvellous watching them prepare everything. We didn't order anything instead asked the chief to surprise us and it was amazing.

Lynn Elman

Incredible meal. So creative and presented beautifully. Knowledgeable staff. Could have been a tad friendlier but they were efficient. Very expensive but well worth it!!

Crystal Carstarphen

Took my sister here for her birthday for the Valentine's Day Tea and we were blown away! We were just in awe of the plating and atmosphere! I would go back but expect to spend more than $60 for more than 1 person!!!

Bobby Beachy

The bar area is always reliably delicious. Great drinks and food, and the best shrimp and grits I've ever had.

carol thompson

Wow amazing. Loved the food and while dining experience. Great value for money. The rabbit with cheese pasta dish was phenomenal - I need to go back for this.

John Brown

First off, you have to understand this may be the most expensive meal you'll ever have. I'm not rich. My wife and I together are very middle class, and not near the top. We've been here three times and it had been written every penny. Last time we went they had new cocktails, it's the slowest I've ever drank anything, I didn't want it to end.

Nicholas Burton

A truly amazing dining experience orchestrated by the man who took home the James Beard Award for the Midwest Region in 2013.

Went there for my birthday dinner a couple years ago. Chose this place based on the good things I heard and positive reviews online. Made a reservation for 10 people - I wasn't told until we got seated that we had to pick exact same # course meal and couldn't get to choose dish for each course. I was not happy about that but thought it would be a hassle to find another resto for 10, so we stayed. It feels like we were punished by the number of party we brought in. Food was good but not impressive enough for me to go back. Service was really a OK... I get same kind of service when I go to Apple Bee's. I think it would have been a much enjoyable experience if we were a smaller group and we got to choose our dishes.

Terry Oliver

Been there for two different injuries and they ALL are terrific every time.

Maria Ginger-Wiley

Spot on fabulous food and service! Never disappoints and always a favorite!

Meg H

Unique experience! Highly recommend.

Logan Cook

looking to indulge....no better place to spoil yourself with a pre-fix meal combo & wine pairing. Came here for an anniversary, was over-the-top satisfied with the meal/service/drinks.

Sarah Gutierrez

Amazing culinary experience! We had the 5 course menu with wine pairing. Food presentation was perfect, every plate was appetizing and left you wanting more.

Kristi Quick

Amazing. Sat on the bar side. Had a really great time!

vienna villaluz ilagan

Everything was on point. The five course with wine pairing was the way to go. Was there for an anniversary and everyone acknowledged it, made us feel special. High five.
