Awesome place. This was my first visit and diffantly plan to add it my favorite list to take friends. Food was fresh and delicious. One half of a sandwich was too much and the fruit cup was a great way to end the meal. Pot pie soup very tasty and my daughter said the Tomatoe Dill Soup was delicious. Dessert menu isn't much.

The best place to eat in Ames! The wait staff is well trained and attentive. The atmosphere is very nice. The food though is the real selling point. With a rotating menu the food is different Evey time my wife and I go out for a date. We have been going every few months for 2 years now and have never had a underwhelming meal. The food has always been superb. Would eat there more often if we could!

Fantastic! I went for brunch and had the French toast. It was delicious! It was pretty busy - after church rush - and the waitress was really awesome about it, offering to pick up the tab when the food was late.

Loved the atmosphere- vintage and hodgepodge pieces create the dimensions of the restaurant within a warehouse not far from the Downs. The aesthetic was folksy and floral. There is both inside and outdoor seating. My sandwhich was not very good (the vegetables were more oil than vegetable), but the others in my group absolutely loved theirs. Its menu is mostly just sandwiches, so I would qualify it as a good lunch destination.

Lovely refurbished warehouse spot. Service was quick, the menu was large and diverse and the atmosphere was very homey. Reasonably priced and huge portions, the decor was fun and the staff was super friendly and on the ball. Everything was finger lickin LOVELY, would definitely recommend. Picture is of a egg breakfast sandwich on a croissant with bacon on the side, couldn’t even finish it but it was soooOOoO good.

A very pleasant surprise. We went with some friends and we are so glad we did. Great food, portions are huge, service was prompt and friendly. Very good menu with a wide variety. Do not, absolutely do not skip the dessert, even if you take it with you. The strawberry cake should be illegal, it was that good, and huge. I had the chili and the tuna sandwich on pita bread. Great. Hope to visit again real soon.

The atmosphere is a mix of modern and warmth. There is plenty of parking available but you will need directions to find the restaurant as it is not on a main street.

Quick service, great dish selection, wines, etc. What really stands out, first Saturday each month they host "Latin Dance Night" which is all about dancing!! It's group participating and free salsa lessons, and more ( adults only ) 21 or older only. Starts at 9:30p till 1:30p high energy loads of FUN!!

We were in the area and decided to stop by for lunch. It’s been at least two years since our last visit. The food is excellent and the portions huge. Ice tea was freshly brewed. We had a cup of the chicken and dumplings soup -yummy. My husband got the chicken salad sandwich and I got the Mission Salad that was huge. Both were freshly made and scrumptious. Our only regret was that we didn’t have room for a piece of their famous cakes. Oh, well, we won’t wait so long for a return visit.

The food was delicious. I had the egg sandwich and adding caramalized onions to it brought out a good flavor, so I recommend that if you like onions. My brother was very hungry and requested the largest omelette they had. The waiter told us they only served a 3 egg omelette, or so we thought. The chef worked some magic and made a huge omelette for my brother! Thankful for the kindness of the staff.

Have been to the Cafe quite a bit over the years however today my wife and I's breakfast was bland. I had the eggs Benedict the Hollandaise was flavorless. My wife's omelet was bland. Overall not the usual quality we've come to expect. We had our 9 month old daughter with us and the waitress didn't think to not try and pour our coffee within in reach initially.

The cafe has amazing food. It's our favorite spot to grab a bite to eat in Ames. Brunch on the weekends is top notch. Dinner during the week is stellar. Dessert is phenomenal anytime. They also have delicious coffee too. The menu always changes but you will easily find a favorite. When in doubt try the cafe mac n cheese or the fish tacos, you won't be disappointed. They ensure the plating is gorgeous, and if you're stuck waiting you can grab a drink from the bar or my favorite is just to watch how smoothly the kitchen runs. They do not take reservations which is kind of a bummer, but once you try this place you won't mind the wait. We drive an hour one way to eat here at least once a month. They also have friendly staff, and prompt service. Date night, family night, and just because...the cafe is so good. I miss the box lunches though, those were great too

We came in late, probably the last customers to be served. The server was spot on for her recommendations. The food, as per normal, was incredible. The starters were great: hummus and salami plate( the stone ground mustard was spicy as were the pickled veggies)...so good! My hanger steak was tender and perfectly rare- as ordered. The music was fun. Thank you for a most enjoyable night.. and I never even mentioned the desserts. That was the best part!

I enjoyed a delightful lunch today with six other friends. The restaurant was crowded, yet our service was excellent and quite fast. Oh, and the food! The menu itself made me want to eat there every day for at least a few weeks. I had the crustless, meatless quiche (it has a proper name, but I can't recall it). It came with a house salad that was bountiful and delicious. Portions are generous, yet appropriate for a lunch. Prices are very reasonable. Everyone else had eaten there many times and said that everything they've ever had was wonderful. I can't wait to go back!

Just keep walking past the giant beautiful cakes by the hostess stand. (They are to die for). The patio is awesome in nice weather. The area around The Cafe is currently under construction, so prepare to walk from an alternate parking lot during peak hours. BTW, the Art Deco requires extra napkins for all the guacamole spilling out. Mmmmm!

I've eaten here many times over the 3 years I've lived in/near Ames and have never been disappointed! I would recommend going at the end of summer and getting the sweet corn bisque, I look forward to it every year. It is a little pricey but the food is so good I am happy to pay a little more than I normally would. I've ordered off their menu and gotten the specials, they always have something that interests me. Tonight I got the corn bisque and mussels with frites special. The corn bisque was just as good as ever and the mussels were amazing!! My husband got the veggie burger and he loved it Service can be a little slow, but I don't mind that when you get quality food. Definitely worth a visit if you live near here or are just visiting!

This restaurant is wonderfully located and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The wait time can be rough, sometimes up to a 45 minute wait during the rush hours, but the wait is worth it. At breakfast I recommend the omelette or the pancake breakfast. Lunch has many good options and the dinner as well.

First trip to the Cafe, have to say it probably deserves its reputation. I had a 25 min wait for a table on a Tuesday night. For starters I tried the Chicken Livers, which were cooked in sherrie, and came topped with rosemary I believe. Very tasty! I tried the Cafe burger, which was done well, maybe overpriced for a single patty burger, but done well... The service is very good, the building is very well laid out IMHO.

We had a large group for lunch and our server was efficient and friendly. The sweet tea and the bread on the tables were both good. I had the twice baked French toast and bacon. Both were excellent. Portion sizes on the salads were huge and no one had anything but praise about the food. We did have to wait a bit despite having a reservation, but it was pretty busy in general so I get they can't know for sure when tables will turn over.

I wanted to give kudos to manager Shelby on excellent customer service she provided to us today. My husband and I went to The Cafe this morning for an anniversary breakfast. She totally turned around what could have been an upsetting experience and made it a very satisfactory, pleasant one. Not only she took care of the whole situation with a great professionalism and without hesitation she also took care of our bill. The waitress who waited on us was also great. My husband and I love The Cafe and we will continue to go there.

The worst fish sandwich at McDonald's is better prepared than the $15 fish tacos I was served tonight. The Cafe has become a favorite place to come for all meals, coffee or just dessert. They offer a wide variety of gourmet quality pies, pastries, cheesecakes, cakes cookies and other desserts. They also stock a good variety of freshly made breads that usually sell out each day. The subdued atmosphere lends to more intimate conversations, both at dining area tables, and more personal booths. Highly regarded by both locals and visitors!

Was looking forward to my first “hot brown” in Louisville. Went to “The Cafe” where I heard had great ones. My, what a disappointment!! It tasted like it had been sitting in a pot the whole day. The bacon was old and terrible. The mornay sauce was like elementary school paste and there was VERY LITTLE turkey. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Certainly not worth my time and effort. I sure hope other restaurants in Louisville serve a better Hot Brown. Paint me disappointed from Washington.

Don't let the construction fool you, they're open and worth the trip. Nice little place, be sure to bring your appetite, though! The hot brown was my favorite I've had (toast points were still crunchy!). Their tuxedo cake is ungodly, though I felt bad because the 4 of us couldn't get through one slice. To be fair, it was enormous. Our server was also really good and funny; if you get Larry, you're in for a treat!

First time being there and OH MY GOODNESS the food is so good. And the pricing is even better! I ordered a create your own (CYO) omelette. It comes with 2 eggs and shredded cheese ($6.95) and all other ingredients are 95 cents I believe. You can choose potatoes, fruit, or something else I believe as a side... I literally was starving when I walked in and could only finish half of the omelette and potatoes. I added the orange marmalade jam to the toast. The whole meal was so good. The place was pretty packed. A lot of friends meeting up for brunch and some couples. It was a happy place. Not quiet but not too loud either. I really enjoyed going on and will be back!

I am posting on my fiancé’s account, we went today for lunch with our little boy after my baby sister and my mother’s recommendation. It was a lovely atmosphere, great service , and the food tasted amazing. It all seemed to be going wonderful until my fiancé found a hair in his chicken salad sandwich, which- gross, but he decided to pick it out hoping it was one of his... then ANOTHER. I felt awful for him and we asked for our server to bring the check, tipped generously for our great service & left early. Disappointing for a place this highly reviewed to not have basic hygiene down.

The Cafe is always a go to when we have a day out in Ames. They have the freshest ingredients and ensure it by limiting menu size to offer what is in season. I do not mind this as I get very annoyed by restaurants that offer pages full of options to order. If anyone is looking for a great cafe to stop at this would be the place. 2 handicap parking spaces right next to the door. The door was easy to get into so handicapped people should not have trouble accessing this restaurant. We're promptly greeted upon entering and shown to a table. The service was great. The server checked in enough times with us to be helpful but not overpowering. The food was ordered and delivered promptly and it was great tasting. Portion size was wonderful for the price. Their desserts are out of this world. Would highly recommend.

We came to Louisville on business and stopped for lunch. I had the Louisville specialty Hot Brown(sans bread) and it was very good. My wife was pleased with the breakfast item she ordered. We ordered a slice of strawberry cake and a slice of Italian creme cake. Both were fantastic!!! The service was very good. Bathrooms were down. Lots of construction. Nice accommodations on the patio. Server was delightful. We will return on our next visit.

I’m giving this a 4-star even though I had planned to give it 5. It is so hard to find a good, full-menu cafe that serves creative, consistent food WITH great coffee; there’s so often a trade-off between the two. The first several times we ate here, The Cafe had both - great food AND great coffee. However, they recently changed their coffee and it tastes horrible to me now - that burnt flavor so typical of places that don’t specialize in coffee. Disappointed. It’s making me rethink my Saturday morning dig, unfortunately.

Phenomenal food. I had the Pimita, which is essentially a bacon and cheese pizza with tomatoes and onions. It was 11.95, but it was definitely worth it. They have pastries also, if you want some dessert after the meal. The only thing that wasn't too great about The Café is that it was just a little too small. However, that's too little of a detail to not give it 5 stars. Great job "The Café," it was money and time worth spent.

The thing I HATE about the cafe...is having to choose 1 thing to order from the menu! I want it ALL. Tonight I had the pork, pasta, peas & parmesan. Delicious! For dessert I had the salted caramel cake-chocolate & caramel! My favorites! My friend even stole more than 1 bite- she never does that! Our server was new, but on his way to being awesome! Overall the food was pretty good, but I am very disappointed in the special I order last night. I order the scallop special and was extremely upset about my order. It cost $27 for 3 scallops that were just ok. It would have been a different experience if the scallops were the best I had ever tasted but they werent, 2 of the 3 were actually quite crunchy. It was definitely missed priced and would not recomend any of there more expensive dishes as I dont know if the price justifies the quality or the quantity.

Easily one of the best places to eat in Ames! Be it breakfast, lunch, it dinner, they have an excellent selection and an ever-evolving menu. This establishment used locally produced meats, produce, milk, and even a local roaster for their excellent coffee and espresso beans! They offer table service, cafe style grab-and-go, outside tables, and even bar seating if you are in a hurry. They often have amazing daily or weekend specials that you will fall in love with. But don't worry, if it's a hit, you may just see it the next season's menu! And if you manage to save space, check out the most impressive dessert cooler in Iowa! And even if you didn't save room, they'll box it up so you can take it with you!

Love the cafe, from it's wood fired pizzas to fancy desserts. Tried the autumn salad. I really enjoyed the medley of dried cranberries, pecans and tiny bits of firmly cooked acorn squash to round it out. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare per my request.

I ordered the Autumn Cobb salad (which I've never had) to go last night. When I got home, I realized there was zero peppered bacon as listed on the menu as an ingredient in this salad. A previous time I ordered the Kale and Quinoa salad to go, with added salmon. When I got home and opened the foil pack of meat, I found steak (which I don't particularly care for) instead of salmon. At their prices, it's disappointing to not receive everything you've paid for.

We went at the end of their day (3:30ish). Ordered the Hot Brown because Louisville is famous for it and we’re from Wa State. Basically it was gross. The bacon was old tasting and greasy and the “Mornay Sauce” was a pasty flour mess with very little cheese taste! Friendly atmosphere but our food was poor. If you can’t serve the best “Specialty” meal then don’t serve it!

Everything about this place is amazing! The decor of the place makes you feel like your in a magical place, and the food is to die for. Especially the cake! The Queen Anne sandwich is my favorite, with a side of the 3 bean salad. Only thing I wish is the friendliness of the service could improve just a bit; the last 2 times I’ve been there, it was steady but not too crazy busy. Both times I was waited on by someone who seemed like we were an inconvenience to be there, I’m assuming they were just busy so I didn’t take it personally. Regardless I’ll keep coming back!

Travelling from SC and we always try to find local restaurants and avoid national chains. This was an excellent find. It is not in the center of town so I consider it a hidden gem. There is a lot of road construction all around it, don't let that deter you.Service and food was excellent. Sandwiches were large, more than I could eat. My friend VERY picky about coleslaw, she loved theirs. We arrived at 11AM on a Monday and there was a healthy crowd there. Real lunchtime is probably packed!

With a generic name and being the result of a quick Google search for local coffeeshops/breakfast sandwich restaurants - this was an absolute surprise. A quaint and comfortable environment with quick service. I ordered a mocha (extra shot of course) and the Nduja breakfast sandwich. The spices and artisan prep really made this breakfast special. The tastes were a great blend and the atmosphere created a welcoming good morning in Ames. My only recommendation might be having wifi as I needed to get some work done over breakfast. Even if not fitting for the setting, perhaps just having this available to coffeeshop side guests would be great.
