Awesome place. This was my first visit and diffantly plan to add it my favorite list to take friends. Food was fresh and delicious. One half of a sandwich was too much and the fruit cup was a great way to end the meal. Pot pie soup very tasty and my daughter said the Tomatoe Dill Soup was delicious. Dessert menu isn't much.
The best place to eat in Ames! The wait staff is well trained and attentive. The atmosphere is very nice. The food though is the real selling point. With a rotating menu the food is different Evey time my wife and I go out for a date. We have been going every few months for 2 years now and have never had a underwhelming meal. The food has always been superb. Would eat there more often if we could!
Fantastic! I went for brunch and had the French toast. It was delicious! It was pretty busy - after church rush - and the waitress was really awesome about it, offering to pick up the tab when the food was late.
I love, love this place. Changing the menus to keep things fresh regularly is a great idea. And what they do with the food is so fantastic. Never had a bad meal here ever. Love the brunches too.
We love The Cafe! You will not be disappointed! Great food and service.
The food is wonderful. They take everyday food and elevate it to something special. The lemon pancakes, peppery bacon, and the carrot cake stood out today. The children's menu came with wholesome and yummy sides. Most importantly, they make the best latte I've ever had:)
Nice comfy place with good food. Grilled chicken pasta was excellent.
The Cafe is a must try if you are looking for delisious food that is locally owned and prepared
Atmosphere and food was Great!
Best sourdough bread and pancakes! Out of this world!
I could drown in their Benedictine!
It was different but, it was very good. Lg pieces cake.
Some of the best good in Ames
Nice breakfast stop. Debbie like her pancakes.
Grace, our server, was very personable and attentive! Great experience overall!!
Nice portions, fast and hot.
Great place for lunch
Great food, great service, and craft beer. They have some of the best food in Ames. The cost does reflect that but it is worth it for a nice night out with family or anniversaries or date nights.
It was a great day to have lunch outside and the cafe was our choice...their food is always fresh and yummy whatever you pick..the derssert are great !!!
I love The Cafe!! It's my favorite spot to go when I'm in town. Their menu is amazing, with more then just one vegetarian options. And that dessert case is always stocked with such beautiful desserts that are always changing.
It is just wonderful, if you haven't been there you really should go!!!!
"The Cafe" has delicious food! The service was great. And be sure to take a piece of any of their cakes home with you. Loved it!
Great atmosphere , great food and service, great prices!!
We love this place for it's good food and quiet ambiance. Just spend three hours at lunch with a friend--one hour eating and two hours after the kitchen closed talking and drinking coffee. Great place!
Amazing salads, sandwiches and breakfast options in a fun, unique atmosphere. Great place to take out of town guests.
Very good food & reasonably priced.
Always great food and service.
Was good service and good food. Cozy atmosphere.
It was great! Had sourdough pancakes with fresh strawberries. Delightful!
Elevated standard fare, meaning you've seen these dishes before, but those versions weren't as good as these. Food done with care. Worth a visit and the wait.
Loved the atmosphere- vintage and hodgepodge pieces create the dimensions of the restaurant within a warehouse not far from the Downs. The aesthetic was folksy and floral. There is both inside and outdoor seating. My sandwhich was not very good (the vegetables were more oil than vegetable), but the others in my group absolutely loved theirs. Its menu is mostly just sandwiches, so I would qualify it as a good lunch destination.
Sat at the bar, bartender was chill, food was great
Great food. Best eats in Ames for sure
An interesting choice of local food. Don't expect standard Iowa portions. The food has usually been good and the service is pretty friendly.
Lovely refurbished warehouse spot. Service was quick, the menu was large and diverse and the atmosphere was very homey. Reasonably priced and huge portions, the decor was fun and the staff was super friendly and on the ball. Everything was finger lickin LOVELY, would definitely recommend. Picture is of a egg breakfast sandwich on a croissant with bacon on the side, couldn’t even finish it but it was soooOOoO good.
Three of us had Bloody Marys, and for $8.50 each we expected them to taste better than mop water. They tasted much, much worse. You’re better off blending $8.50 worth of toilet paper and drinking that.
Not my taste of food. No offense but the place felt like a Wives Club
Always a great meal, with great service. Can't go wrong.
Great service and always yummy
Excellent burger. Nice selection of craft beer.
Nice ambiance, good music. Excellent service and ver tasty food.
Great service, fantastic food. High-quality ingredients. And the ever changing menu
Just plain delicious!
Bartender was extremely dismissive. Slow to acknowledge us although we sat at the bar for more than a few minutes and no smile or welcome, but cheerfully served diners who arrived after us. Not a busy time of day. Food quality is inconsistent and has been steadily declining.
My Hash, was amazing!! Great staff and service!!!
Accidental find and so glad of it. Terrific atmosphere, best Huevos Ranchero ever and great service by Kristen!
Best place for a healthy breakfast. I visited this plaace for the very first time and I totally amazed with their quick and exceptional service. Once you'll go there, you'll never go anywhere.
Best gluten free in Ames!!!! So workable with diet restrictions and make sure you are accommodated!
In town for volleyball tournament, they were able to accommodate our large group (24ish) while having 2 other really large groups at same time! Staff was kind and attentive, food was delicious! Atmosphere was so great too!
Big portions reasonably priced for a downtown location. Soup of the day (chicken pot pie) was amazing. Chef salad with pesto ranch was perfect 2 share.
Wonderful food. Pleasant atmosphere. Had a lovely date night.
Great service and good food.
Food was good. Service could have been better.
Great place to meet for lunch!!
Ever-changing menu, usually pretty good.
Words cannot describe the food! Reasonably priced and great service! A must try if you are in Ames!!
Menu changes with the seasons, so always something new to try. Delicious food. Wonderful staff.
Oh my gosh, especially delish cakes!
Outstanding food and atmosphere! The menu changes daily, but customer favorites are always available. Highly recommended by both locals and tourists alike.
Great breakfast .coffee. fantastic
A lovely place for lunch. A little difficult to park.due to construction but definitely worth the effort.
Amazing lunch... Chicken salad sandwich and BLT were both perfect... Super employees and customer service... Highly recommend
Great place to go in Ames
A very pleasant surprise. We went with some friends and we are so glad we did. Great food, portions are huge, service was prompt and friendly. Very good menu with a wide variety. Do not, absolutely do not skip the dessert, even if you take it with you. The strawberry cake should be illegal, it was that good, and huge. I had the chili and the tuna sandwich on pita bread. Great. Hope to visit again real soon.
Sandwich was amazing. Got a side of pasta salad, it was good, but tiny. Nice little place to snag lunch
Really good food. Save room for dessert
We didn't eat ...we left..lunch menu is very limited!
Great Place!!!! Wonderful food and service
Really delicious food. The house made chips and and onion dip were great! The steak sandwich was also really good and came with a fresh salad, very unique flavors and high quality. The service was also very nice. This place is a must!
Great food great service great atmosphere
Breakfast was amazing. The server was nice.
Simply put - what a gem! The food was excellent in quality and taste as well as presentation. An outstanding staff and servers were professional, courteous, and friendly. The atmosphere is a mix of modern and warmth. There is plenty of parking available but you will need directions to find the restaurant as it is not on a main street.
A perfect way to end my visit to Ames. 38.00 with tip for breakfast with wife. Steak and eggs done to perfection and a great soundtrack in the background. The staff was as good as I have ever encountered. Service was prompt and friendly.
Not just a hidden sandwich spot for your grandma! Huge menu with a myriad of soups and sandwiches. Try the tomato bisque soup and don't forget the cake.
Tiramisu was delicious. Took a while for the sandwiches to come out, but I'll definitely be back. I didn't get a special drink, just chilled water. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Quick service, great dish selection, wines, etc. What really stands out, first Saturday each month they host "Latin Dance Night" which is all about dancing!! It's group participating and free salsa lessons, and more ( adults only ) 21 or older only. Starts at 9:30p till 1:30p high energy loads of FUN!!
We were in the area and decided to stop by for lunch. It’s been at least two years since our last visit. The food is excellent and the portions huge. Ice tea was freshly brewed. We had a cup of the chicken and dumplings soup -yummy. My husband got the chicken salad sandwich and I got the Mission Salad that was huge. Both were freshly made and scrumptious. Our only regret was that we didn’t have room for a piece of their famous cakes. Oh, well, we won’t wait so long for a return visit.
The food was delicious. I had the egg sandwich and adding caramalized onions to it brought out a good flavor, so I recommend that if you like onions. My brother was very hungry and requested the largest omelette they had. The waiter told us they only served a 3 egg omelette, or so we thought. The chef worked some magic and made a huge omelette for my brother! Thankful for the kindness of the staff.
Great food, cozy space and they have good cakes and desserts
Our favorite place for our trip in Iowa. Breakfasts are amazing, great staff, warm ambiance. Thumbs up to mix of restaurant and "cafe to go".
Great food and atmosphere!
Great food great service could never pass on a piece of that lovely cake you pass entering the door
Terrific service. Always wonderful food!
Love the Benedictine. Nice restaurant, and waitresses very friendly
Best tomatoe soup and tuna salad you'll ever have. Everything is good. There's a real pride of ownership on every plate in my personal experience. Staff is friendly and professional.
Excellent dinner, I highly recommend the mac and cheese!
Literally in love with The Cafe. Best lunch in the city, best tomato basil soup and amazing gourmet sandwiches. I cannot give enough praise about this place
ORDERED THE HOT BROWN AND IT WAS DELICIOUS AND THE CINNAMON ROLLS ARE TO DIE FOR
On a scale of 1-10 i give them 10++++ because they are great! If you ever are in the neighborhood, try their empire chef salad(enough for 2 people) you will not be disappointed! I know that everytime i order from there my food is going to be made correctly and to perfection
Excellent food. A pleasant surprise.
Have been to the Cafe quite a bit over the years however today my wife and I's breakfast was bland. I had the eggs Benedict the Hollandaise was flavorless. My wife's omelet was bland. Overall not the usual quality we've come to expect. We had our 9 month old daughter with us and the waitress didn't think to not try and pour our coffee within in reach initially.
Had Saturday brunch, good selection off the brunch menu. Very traditional, including French toast, country ham, and grits. Excellent service from Larry. Outdoor seating available. Off street parking in their lot. Easy accessibility. Nice place for locals to bring visitors.
A bit of a waite for lunch. Server and food were great. Serving size matched the price with plenty of menu items. Older building with a matching decor.
Great food & price.
The food is always delicious and service is excellent.
Amazing service, food, and atmosphere!
Saturday night at 6pm - no waiting! Delicious meals and great service.
Lots of good food big slices of cake, hmmm.
First time trying today, Larry our server was fast and so nice even though it was crowded. Food was reasonably priced and very yummy.
Absolutely delicious! Fresh and flavorful with a nice selection for every taste! I came on lunch with 5 other people, they were crowded and busy yet we were seated within about 15 minutes, our server was very friendly, our orders were hot, fresh, and we did not wait long at all. Overall very impressed with both the atmosphere and the amazing food! We will be back for sure! I loved my Edwardian!
So glad I came in!! Staff were wonderful and food was delicious! We came in close to closing time however weren't rushed and food came out super quick! Will definitely be coming back!
Friendly staff, delicious food and love the eclectic decor. My husband enjoyed his breakfast. He appreciated that they use real sausage and not cheap imitation sausage. I wish that this place was closer to where my home is. I would be there frequently.
Love The Cafe! Delicious food and drinks and great service!
Great atmosphere and great, unique food!
Not a place you'll stumble upon by accident, but if you find this hidden gem you well be pleased.
Just ok. Staff was very friendly, food was so so. Grits were very bland, over-easy eggs cooked well, just overall not much flavor in the breakfast food.
Love this place never had a bad meal! Best coffee in town!
Always have good food and service here. I like trying new things each time, too. Have never been disappointed.
Nice place can't wait to go back for some strawberry cake.
Great as always, but I am concerned about Sal selling it. Hopefully the new owners will be as successful.
Good food, but crab cakes weren’t my style. My grandmother also did not like them and mentioned it to our server. She took 1 of them off for us. Very nice of her!
Charming place with fair prices and good food. I had the tomato soup and hot brown and enjoyed both.
We drive a distant to get here and it never disappoints.
The cafe has amazing food. It's our favorite spot to grab a bite to eat in Ames. Brunch on the weekends is top notch. Dinner during the week is stellar. Dessert is phenomenal anytime. They also have delicious coffee too. The menu always changes but you will easily find a favorite. When in doubt try the cafe mac n cheese or the fish tacos, you won't be disappointed. They ensure the plating is gorgeous, and if you're stuck waiting you can grab a drink from the bar or my favorite is just to watch how smoothly the kitchen runs. They do not take reservations which is kind of a bummer, but once you try this place you won't mind the wait. We drive an hour one way to eat here at least once a month. They also have friendly staff, and prompt service. Date night, family night, and just because...the cafe is so good. I miss the box lunches though, those were great too
Despite nearby construction and a number of detour signs, The Cafe was quite busy. Our server, Ann, was great. They have large delicious servings but be sure to save room for dezsert. Good food, fast service, in a "funky" setting.
We came in late, probably the last customers to be served. The server was spot on for her recommendations. The food, as per normal, was incredible. The starters were great: hummus and salami plate( the stone ground mustard was spicy as were the pickled veggies)...so good! My hanger steak was tender and perfectly rare- as ordered. The music was fun. Thank you for a most enjoyable night.. and I never even mentioned the desserts. That was the best part!
Great tasting food, great service, great atmosphere. Award-winning desserts.
Outstanding food and service, our server, Larry was knowledgeable and professional, food was delicious. Great place for breakfast and lunch.
The food was refreshing and our server (although she didn't say her name) was awesome.
Food was great and the service was very good
I've never had a bad meal here. It's probably the most reliable restaurant in Ames if you want something a little more upscale
Great food and fantastic atmosphere. Food is a little pricy, but the quality is well worth the price.
Great service, atmosphere and food! Love their breakfast blend coffee too!
Great food, friendly staff, and large portions..
Best breakfast in Louisville. Large menu selection and the food to back it up. There's something for everyone.
Hands down best restaurant in Ames. Great food and great atmosphere
Very good. Love the atmosphere
Wonderfully creative food, ambiance and service. Very fresh high quality ingredients and a seasonally changing menu means always delicious. Plus a well stocked and lively bar scene. Always one of the best in Ames and the entire area. Thanks Guys, TWM.
Good Food and the service was great!
Favorite restaurant! Everything is delicious, menu changes, so there's always something new to try.
I enjoyed a delightful lunch today with six other friends. The restaurant was crowded, yet our service was excellent and quite fast. Oh, and the food! The menu itself made me want to eat there every day for at least a few weeks. I had the crustless, meatless quiche (it has a proper name, but I can't recall it). It came with a house salad that was bountiful and delicious. Portions are generous, yet appropriate for a lunch. Prices are very reasonable. Everyone else had eaten there many times and said that everything they've ever had was wonderful. I can't wait to go back!
Excellent fish tacos, best of 2019. Carrot cake was amazing. I'll be back.
Fun place. Limited menu, but good.
Just keep walking past the giant beautiful cakes by the hostess stand. (They are to die for). The patio is awesome in nice weather. The area around The Cafe is currently under construction, so prepare to walk from an alternate parking lot during peak hours. BTW, the Art Deco requires extra napkins for all the guacamole spilling out. Mmmmm!
This was my first visit to The Cafe and I was very impressed. They were so busy with Holiday guests but everyone was polite and the service was good. I had the Louis XIV chicken salad sandwich and it was delicious.
Really quality food. Nice environment. I'm not even a sandwich guy, but I was impressed.
Busy, per usual, but delicious food and great service!
Way overpriced meals.
I guess I found the only thing that they are not good at and I guess my standards are too high cuz I can cook better sausage gravy than they can stick with the sandwich you won't be disappointed
I've eaten here many times over the 3 years I've lived in/near Ames and have never been disappointed! I would recommend going at the end of summer and getting the sweet corn bisque, I look forward to it every year. It is a little pricey but the food is so good I am happy to pay a little more than I normally would. I've ordered off their menu and gotten the specials, they always have something that interests me. Tonight I got the corn bisque and mussels with frites special. The corn bisque was just as good as ever and the mussels were amazing!! My husband got the veggie burger and he loved it Service can be a little slow, but I don't mind that when you get quality food. Definitely worth a visit if you live near here or are just visiting!
I wish the menu had more options, meal was okay but nothing real outstanding. Just go for the deserts, hard to beat.
Great breakfast! Great atmosphere! Great location!
Very good food and service!
This restaurant is wonderfully located and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The wait time can be rough, sometimes up to a 45 minute wait during the rush hours, but the wait is worth it. At breakfast I recommend the omelette or the pancake breakfast. Lunch has many good options and the dinner as well.
Excellent! Twice-baked French Toast was delicious.
Great breakfast omlet and pptatoes
First trip to the Cafe, have to say it probably deserves its reputation. I had a 25 min wait for a table on a Tuesday night. For starters I tried the Chicken Livers, which were cooked in sherrie, and came topped with rosemary I believe. Very tasty! I tried the Cafe burger, which was done well, maybe overpriced for a single patty burger, but done well... The service is very good, the building is very well laid out IMHO.
Excellent. Was told by nurses downtown. Got them a $30.00 gift certificate for telling us about Cafe.
This place never disappoints! The food is fresh, and delicious, and the portions are fantastic. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great breakfast or lunch location!
We had a large group for lunch and our server was efficient and friendly. The sweet tea and the bread on the tables were both good. I had the twice baked French toast and bacon. Both were excellent. Portion sizes on the salads were huge and no one had anything but praise about the food. We did have to wait a bit despite having a reservation, but it was pretty busy in general so I get they can't know for sure when tables will turn over.
Great food and desserts. The old fashioned is excellent.
Amazing food and drink, great service, and a must eat if you're in the area. The menu may be small but each dish is quality over quantity!
The brunch is fabulous! The Blueberry Peach French Toast was awesome.
Service is always good. Food and coffee are both delicious.
Great atmosphere, good prices! Awesome food!!
Food was good, atmosphere too.
Came here before the Derby. Fun atmosphere and unique look. I had the chicken salad and enjoyed it. They had a great looking menu that I'd like to check out when I'm hungry.
A local favorite. A changing menu. Locally grown food.
I wanted to give kudos to manager Shelby on excellent customer service she provided to us today. My husband and I went to The Cafe this morning for an anniversary breakfast. She totally turned around what could have been an upsetting experience and made it a very satisfactory, pleasant one. Not only she took care of the whole situation with a great professionalism and without hesitation she also took care of our bill. The waitress who waited on us was also great. My husband and I love The Cafe and we will continue to go there.
It was great!! And the cakes are out this world GOOD!!!
Menu changes frequently. It's a good thing.
The atmosphere and service was phenomenal! They had the most delicious food. I ordered something new to me trying to step out of my comfort zone and was not disappointed!
The Cafe offered a nice variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and more for lunch. In our group, the hot brown, the chicken salad, and the BLT with avacado spread were perfect. The kale soup is out of this world! The venue offered a nice place to reunite with college friends.
Went for breakfast. It was fantastic! Great food. Great service. Great place. Had the baked oatmeal and it was delicious and filling. Came with warm milk. Also ordered a side of grits and that was great as well.
Fantastic place. First time in Louisville, and this nice place which was prob an old factory now has a quaint home style feel to it. The sandwich selection was very diverse. My girl had breakfast that she enjoyed as well. The desserts looked very nice too. Would visit again!
4 different lunch items and all were outstanding. Each person wanted to get the others food.
It's a really good place to eat the atmosphere is great the waitress is the same.
Never disappointed, good service and great food.
Absolutely love The Cafe!!!! Would recommend it to everyone I know!! Food is amazing, service wonderful, super clean, atmosphere fabulous
We were staying in Louisville for the weekend for the Forecastle festival and stopped by Friday morning and Saturday for breakfast. The service was quick and our waitresses were friendly. The food was outstanding and the portions were great. We will definitely be stopping at least one more time before we leave town
Excellent food. Very nice waitress and hostess.
Quality of food was excellent
This place is one on the best kept secrets in Louisville.
The peach french toast was delicious! Service was knowledgeable and friendly. We'll be back again soon.
The food is always amazing, the staff are very knowledgable about the food and very nice and courteous to the customers! We will be back.
Excellent good and service. Great atmosphere.
The best restaurant in Ames, and probably all of Iowa. The bar is fantastic, and the food is great. The changing menu offers great new choices on a regular basis. The service is consistent and friendly. This place is just plain awesome.
Always good good . Good service , too. Even on a very busy after noon . One of my favorite places for lunch .noise level is too high , but can still talk to table mates .
I love this little cranny of a restaraunt. Great food, attentive staff. I personally don't like cake, but I am told that the cakes are to die for.
The worst fish sandwich at McDonald's is better prepared than the $15 fish tacos I was served tonight. Ordered a 2nd $8 can of beer only to have it brought out after everyone is done eating, then immediately harrassed in front of my in laws to see if "everything is fine". Last time I will spend a dime there.
A must for lunch! The tomato dill soup is to die for. I even add a sunny side up egg into it. And make sure you save room for dessert. This place has the best cakes I have ever had in my life. And I am a baker! Tuxedo is my favorite.
Great little spot! Had a huge Neo Greek Salad. Easily 2 meals! Great atmosphere and service!
I didn't take a picture of my food because I was far too hungry to wait. The Korean steak and egg was absolutely phenomenal. If it's their next time I'm in town I'm going to get it again. Along with that the wait staff and atmosphere are too notch.
Perfect place to go for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I have always had great service and amazing food. My favorite is the Pimita with Montana chili.
Salmon sandwich and fish tacos were amazing! We ate at the bar and the bartenders were awesome as well! Thank you all for such a great first visit! We will be back!
I've continued to come here throughout my time in Ames. I've always enjoyed the rotating menu, and fantastic drink menu. The bar is beautiful. If you want to have an extra good time, check in a little before Dinner starts, and have a Mocha in the little bakery in back!
Amazing food! Service was fantastic. WILL definitely go back to Ames JUST for this place!
One of my favorite places to eat. Really good food and great atmosphere.
Very good salad with fresh greens, raisins, nuts eec
The Cafe has become a favorite place to come for all meals, coffee or just dessert. They offer a wide variety of gourmet quality pies, pastries, cheesecakes, cakes cookies and other desserts. They also stock a good variety of freshly made breads that usually sell out each day. The subdued atmosphere lends to more intimate conversations, both at dining area tables, and more personal booths. Highly regarded by both locals and visitors!
The Cafe is a must go to place to eat brunch when in Louisville KY!! The place has the best brunch menu and the service was amazing!! The prices are very good, and the decor is very charming. You definitely feel welcomed here!! The chicken salad is to die for and so is the biscuits and gravy!!!
Great place to grab a quick bite. $$ priced. Good taste great and server was friendly but service wasn't spectacular. Wait was a bit long to order and eat.
Great find, food quality is top notch, service great, like to smile and joke around, speed of food delivery is perfect. And don’t forget your HUGE piece of cake!
Outstanding apple crisp/cobbler!!! Coffee is very good too.
Was looking forward to my first “hot brown” in Louisville. Went to “The Cafe” where I heard had great ones. My, what a disappointment!! It tasted like it had been sitting in a pot the whole day. The bacon was old and terrible. The mornay sauce was like elementary school paste and there was VERY LITTLE turkey. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Certainly not worth my time and effort. I sure hope other restaurants in Louisville serve a better Hot Brown. Paint me disappointed from Washington.
Way to expensive to be the only coffee shop in the area and they don't even fill my canteen full.
Love Love Love The Caf'e!! GREAT food. Wonderful service. I just love the atmosphere there. You can even eat outside under an umbrella if you want!!
Best place to stop in Ames! My wife and I came here on multiple occasions. Service was always good, their bread is amazing, and the atmosphere is great. Highly recommend The Cafe!
Don't let the construction fool you, they're open and worth the trip. Nice little place, be sure to bring your appetite, though! The hot brown was my favorite I've had (toast points were still crunchy!). Their tuxedo cake is ungodly, though I felt bad because the 4 of us couldn't get through one slice. To be fair, it was enormous. Our server was also really good and funny; if you get Larry, you're in for a treat!
Always excellent. Come early, or you will have to wait.
The French toast is delicious, it is cooked different from your typical French toast but is excellent. The service is five star.
The best local secret in Ames! Locally sourced menu that changes seasonally. It's all great!
Outstanding place! Great food , great service. Awsome coffee and patisserie!
Very nice place! Friendly staff and delicious food!
First time being there and OH MY GOODNESS the food is so good. And the pricing is even better! I ordered a create your own (CYO) omelette. It comes with 2 eggs and shredded cheese ($6.95) and all other ingredients are 95 cents I believe. You can choose potatoes, fruit, or something else I believe as a side... I literally was starving when I walked in and could only finish half of the omelette and potatoes. I added the orange marmalade jam to the toast. The whole meal was so good. The place was pretty packed. A lot of friends meeting up for brunch and some couples. It was a happy place. Not quiet but not too loud either. I really enjoyed going on and will be back!
The food here has a wide variety and the atmosphere is romantic and welcoming. Their burger is off the charts and they have a solid beer selection with a few local breweries. My only problem is I wish they were cheaper so I could go more often.
Quaint restaurant with good food and good portions. Menu is a little limited in options though.
I am posting on my fiancé’s account, we went today for lunch with our little boy after my baby sister and my mother’s recommendation. It was a lovely atmosphere, great service , and the food tasted amazing. It all seemed to be going wonderful until my fiancé found a hair in his chicken salad sandwich, which- gross, but he decided to pick it out hoping it was one of his... then ANOTHER. I felt awful for him and we asked for our server to bring the check, tipped generously for our great service & left early. Disappointing for a place this highly reviewed to not have basic hygiene down.
Roasted chicken pasta excellent
Delicious food and great atmosphere. If you visit Ames, Iowa don't forget go to this place.
Food was great. Service was just as good. Just like home cooking. The egg sandwich was awesome and really big!!!
Excellent service, delicious food, moderately priced, warm and inviting.
Great food and service here. The only problem is that there always long wait for table and food.
I love it the food is wonderful
Avant garde, swing atmospheric place. Always good food
Probably one of best restaurants in town. Both the bakery and the restaurant serve high quality food. The service is also exceptional.
Great food and service. Clean and a must go to if your in the area. Will be back and I'll keep recommending this place to friends and family.
We wanted to find somewhere to eat along the I65 and came across this place, the food was great and the Italian coconut cream cake was just amazing. Great food , great price and the service was fab
Food was delicious but lettuce wraps are not wrapped. Loose filling and small lettuce leads. No tofu available for rice bowl. Service was great.
The Cafe is always a go to when we have a day out in Ames. They have the freshest ingredients and ensure it by limiting menu size to offer what is in season. I do not mind this as I get very annoyed by restaurants that offer pages full of options to order. If anyone is looking for a great cafe to stop at this would be the place. Also try their Chai Tea Latte, they are to die for!!
Always good food and service. First time today for brunch. Yum!!!
I always love this small non-chain restaurant. Their food is good! If you can sit outside when the weather permits, it is even better.
I really like the atmosphere, and the service was very good. My breakfast was great. Highly recommend
Really great restaurant in an former industrial area. It was crowded but for good reason. The food was delicious and priced fair. If you are deciding where to for a nice brunch this place would be best.
This is what was left AFTER I ate my lunch. Huge portions, this is the chicken pasta salad.
Excellent food. Great people great place. People here treat you like family. Just awesome.
This is my second visit and again the food is good. However, I wish they had a minimum age of 13.
2 handicap parking spaces right next to the door. The door was easy to get into so handicapped people should not have trouble accessing this restaurant. We're promptly greeted upon entering and shown to a table. The service was great. The server checked in enough times with us to be helpful but not overpowering. The food was ordered and delivered promptly and it was great tasting. Portion size was wonderful for the price. Their desserts are out of this world. Would highly recommend.
I rarely get the same thing because they do everything so well that I’m comfortable trying new things. Always impressed with what they serve.
The cafe offers great food at a great price, and the atmosphere is so fun!
THE BEST place to eat !!!!!! The food is amazing!! The portions are so filling The people there are wonderful. Love love love The Cafe. Louisville is lucky to have such a great place to eat and relax.
Very good food tucked behind the railroad tracks.
We came to Louisville on business and stopped for lunch. I had the Louisville specialty Hot Brown(sans bread) and it was very good. My wife was pleased with the breakfast item she ordered. We ordered a slice of strawberry cake and a slice of Italian creme cake. Both were fantastic!!! The service was very good. Bathrooms were down. Lots of construction. Nice accommodations on the patio. Server was delightful. We will return on our next visit.
A louisville tradition..located in the upcoming Paristown area..exceptional food, generous portions at reasonable prices..top 10 breakfast & lunch location in metro louisville. If your visiting the Ville give try
Food was mediocre, way over seasoned and the server was not interested enough to rectify or compensate us.
Haven't had a bad dish here yet. When I go it's often with a group. They take our reservation and we always have great service. In and out in a timely manner and back to work. Recommendations: always get some CAKE!
Loved it since i was 5
Had the Tuscan Roasted Chicken Salad. Yummy. Had enough to take home for my dinner, too!!! Great service!! Didn't try them but the desserts look amazing!!
I’m giving this a 4-star even though I had planned to give it 5. It is so hard to find a good, full-menu cafe that serves creative, consistent food WITH great coffee; there’s so often a trade-off between the two. The first several times we ate here, The Cafe had both - great food AND great coffee. However, they recently changed their coffee and it tastes horrible to me now - that burnt flavor so typical of places that don’t specialize in coffee. Disappointed. It’s making me rethink my Saturday morning dig, unfortunately.
The place is lovely on the inside but with a laid back feel. Waitress was wonderful. Food was incredible and very tasty. The ranchero eggs and waffles perfect! A little pricey for breakfast food but for the quality I had no issue with it. I will be back when we are back in the city to try out dinner.
One of the best local restaurants in Louisville. I like their menu and staff.
Our favorite breakfast sandwich resturant. Again, we were not dissapointed! Larry was our server, and you can not ask for a more efficient and personal server than he. Already looking forward to our next visit! Rick
Great food and great service
That was such a great lunch! We will definitely be back!
A great place to visit when one travels to Ames. The service is fantastic, the atmosphere is great, and the food is excellent. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a snack in between The Cafe should be a must stop location on your travel itinerary.
Food was hot and fresh. Service time from order to cooked meal served was good. Location was very busy when we arrived. Wait was only about 15min and was not bad. Server was busy with several tables but kept up and did well. Pricing was reasonable for portions served.
Wow! The BEST Cobb salad I ever had!! Mini eclair was fun for dessert.
Great Environment with Awesome Food and portions. Excellent Hospitality.
Parrking was difficult but getting a table was fast and easy. Great atmosphere with eclectic style. I had the breakfast special with fruit and my husband also had the breakfast special with scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes. Great food at a good price. Larry gave us great service with much personal attention!
Great restaurant with incredible food. They have a menu that consistently changes which keeps you on your toes. Plus their dessert is easily the best dessert in Ames.
Love the food and love the people that work there, especially Myra. She's in charge of carry out plus many other things at the restaurant.
Good food with good service. Cool atmosphere as well
The best restaurant in Ames. Have not had an unsatisfactory meal there yet. Their seasonal gourmet menu always changes, using fresh locally sourced ingredients. Professional staff and cozy atmosphere.
Service was prompt and polite. Food was delicious and filling, can’t wait to try their breakfast! Definitely worth checking out again!
Went Friday after Thanksgiving in 2018. Had two very good breakfast meals. Very nice little place. If ever in the area again we will certainly come back to it. Our server was polite and efficient without being in your face too much. Really enjoyed everything about this visit
Best pimento cheese in town. The Italian cream cake is incredible and pieces are big enough to share
I've never had a bad meal here! They have great menu staples and a wonderful seasonal menu of dishes. Make sure to save room for dessert as they're the best in town!
One of my favorite restaurants!! Everything is delicious! I love that they buy local food and that their menu is constantly changing.
Super friendly staff, good healthy options and enjoyable coffee selection.
The Cafe Mac-n-Cheese is awesome!
Excellent food and atmosphere. Their lunch menu has an excellent grilled salmon that I'll have to try again. The place is pretty busy around noontime. Expect maybe a 10 minute wait around then.
Wish they had some vegan fare on the menu, but I was able to adapt. Tasty food, comfortable ambience.
Great food Great everything. Tuna and chicken salad.
Phenomenal food. I had the Pimita, which is essentially a bacon and cheese pizza with tomatoes and onions. It was 11.95, but it was definitely worth it. They have pastries also, if you want some dessert after the meal. The only thing that wasn't too great about The Café is that it was just a little too small. However, that's too little of a detail to not give it 5 stars. Great job "The Café," it was money and time worth spent.
Potatoes are too sweet. I wanted a salty treat with my breakfast and was surprised. Other than that the food is very good.
First time there. Had the chicken salad. Lots of food for the price.
Excellent food. Creative menu. Fun environment.
I had the oatmeal and it was so good! My husband's eggs and pancakes were perfect. My niece has a new favorite grilled cheese. The brunch menu has something for everyone. I would highly recommend any meal at The Cafe!!
Great menu which rotates often based on what's fresh and locally available. Good value for price. Excellent pastries and coffee drinks. Try the raspberry almond coffee cake and a tall mocha.
The thing I HATE about the cafe...is having to choose 1 thing to order from the menu! I want it ALL. Tonight I had the pork, pasta, peas & parmesan. Delicious! For dessert I had the salted caramel cake-chocolate & caramel! My favorites! My friend even stole more than 1 bite- she never does that! Our server was new, but on his way to being awesome! I only wish I could eat there more often. My schedule just doesn't allow it.
Good for and atmoshpere, it was a bit dark inside but I could see how that would help the regular hangover.
Decorated very nicely for the holidays and food was very good.
Food is really delicious. Only bad thing is price. Its a little bit expensive
Surprisingly interesting culinary experience ...in Iowa. Very nice surprise. I'll go back with friends and family.
Nice and cozy atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff. Definitely recommend it. It's one of those places where I feel I'm eating REAL, healthy, fresh food.
I've been eating there for several years and I don't have one complaint. Service and food is exceptional.
6th time is the charm. Actually it is always good at the Cafe. We had a short wait, and then a great brunch so it was a great visit.
Overall the food was pretty good, but I am very disappointed in the special I order last night. I order the scallop special and was extremely upset about my order. It cost $27 for 3 scallops that were just ok. It would have been a different experience if the scallops were the best I had ever tasted but they werent, 2 of the 3 were actually quite crunchy. It was definitely missed priced and would not recomend any of there more expensive dishes as I dont know if the price justifies the quality or the quantity.
Very eclectic place, but wonderful food, quick service..huge selection of breakfast and lunch.items..but the best are their cakes! Huge portions and very worth a visit!
Good food, though we were expecting great based on the reputation. We may have just not picked the best dishes. Service was pleasant but inattentive, spent a lot of time with empty glasses. Nice atmosphere.
Good Service. The coffee was good. The wifi was decent
I just love their brunch menu. One of my favorite restaurants in town.
Absolutely hands down best sandwich I've ever had. The Italian deli sandwich was so delicious. Lexi was a great server. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
This is my favorite place for lunch. The food is so good! Only one downside...the servers are not friendly. I have eaten here many times and I’ve never had a friendly server. I was there today and purposely watched all of the servers to see if any of them smiled at their customers. I didn’t see one! But again, the food is really good!
Great menu, so many choices. Large dining area, but you will not crowded with other patrons. Very family friendly, we have had both breakfast and lunch.
Easily one of the best places to eat in Ames! Be it breakfast, lunch, it dinner, they have an excellent selection and an ever-evolving menu. This establishment used locally produced meats, produce, milk, and even a local roaster for their excellent coffee and espresso beans! They offer table service, cafe style grab-and-go, outside tables, and even bar seating if you are in a hurry. They often have amazing daily or weekend specials that you will fall in love with. But don't worry, if it's a hit, you may just see it the next season's menu! And if you manage to save space, check out the most impressive dessert cooler in Iowa! And even if you didn't save room, they'll box it up so you can take it with you!
Always reliably delicious food and very friendly service! Try the huevos rancheros with grilled chicken!
Very tasty food! Will definitely come back!
Love the cafe, from it's wood fired pizzas to fancy desserts. Tried the autumn salad. I really enjoyed the medley of dried cranberries, pecans and tiny bits of firmly cooked acorn squash to round it out. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare per my request.
Always great food! Nice atmosphere. Owners do a great job of running a top notch establishment!!!
The forbidden rice bowl with grilled salmon was really good. The ambience is nice as well.
Was on patio. Very hot day. Would have greatly appreciated ceiling fans to provide some breeze.
I love the Queen Anne
I ordered the Autumn Cobb salad (which I've never had) to go last night. When I got home, I realized there was zero peppered bacon as listed on the menu as an ingredient in this salad. A previous time I ordered the Kale and Quinoa salad to go, with added salmon. When I got home and opened the foil pack of meat, I found steak (which I don't particularly care for) instead of salmon. At their prices, it's disappointing to not receive everything you've paid for.
Great meal and service
We went at the end of their day (3:30ish). Ordered the Hot Brown because Louisville is famous for it and we’re from Wa State. Basically it was gross. The bacon was old tasting and greasy and the “Mornay Sauce” was a pasty flour mess with very little cheese taste! Friendly atmosphere but our food was poor. If you can’t serve the best “Specialty” meal then don’t serve it!
Everything about this place is amazing! The decor of the place makes you feel like your in a magical place, and the food is to die for. Especially the cake! The Queen Anne sandwich is my favorite, with a side of the 3 bean salad. Only thing I wish is the friendliness of the service could improve just a bit; the last 2 times I’ve been there, it was steady but not too crazy busy. Both times I was waited on by someone who seemed like we were an inconvenience to be there, I’m assuming they were just busy so I didn’t take it personally. Regardless I’ll keep coming back!
Travelling from SC and we always try to find local restaurants and avoid national chains. This was an excellent find. It is not in the center of town so I consider it a hidden gem. There is a lot of road construction all around it, don't let that deter you.Service and food was excellent. Sandwiches were large, more than I could eat. My friend VERY picky about coleslaw, she loved theirs. We arrived at 11AM on a Monday and there was a healthy crowd there. Real lunchtime is probably packed!
With a generic name and being the result of a quick Google search for local coffeeshops/breakfast sandwich restaurants - this was an absolute surprise. A quaint and comfortable environment with quick service. I ordered a mocha (extra shot of course) and the Nduja breakfast sandwich. The spices and artisan prep really made this breakfast special. The tastes were a great blend and the atmosphere created a welcoming good morning in Ames. My only recommendation might be having wifi as I needed to get some work done over breakfast. Even if not fitting for the setting, perhaps just having this available to coffeeshop side guests would be great.
In all fairness to the cafe we arrived about 20-something minutes before closing. We still had great service and the food was wonderful as always. Thank you for putting up with us at the last moment.
Great food, atmosphere, and waitresses.
Excellent service, coffee, and food. We'll be back!
The breakfast was excellent.the coffee is ok very dark roast flavor. We prefer more of a mellow tasting coffee that is blended for better taste and not over roasted. However, the food is excellent. The service was excellent. We have been there over ten times and we will go back again.
Highly recommend steak and eggs. The steak is amazing and surprisingly really cheap. 10/10. Also, atmosphere is amazing and staff super chill and friendly
Always good food at The Cafe
Cold Place ,Cold plates, Cold bread. The temperature is 55 degrees outside, But air conditioning was running inside. The bread and Plates all cold . My heart so cold after this dinner.
Staff - friendly and inviting Atmosphere - amazing cozy little place Pastries - delicious and plated well Drink - I would have been better going to a gas station and getting a cappuccino. I personally LOVE Chai and thought a place like this would make an amazing cup. However it tasted like nutmeg in a warm cup of water. I honestly don’t think I’ll come back for anything other than their pastries. If you’re like me and enjoy a nice warm cup of chai, I’d get your order to go and grab a k-cup from Walmart.
I will start with the food is great, the service is excellent and the prices are low. The ambiance is eclectic. Take your family and friends there. You can't miss.
Food was delish! The prices are great! I'd recommend to others. The staff were super friendly.
