This place is so yummy! Very clean and classy. Great, great food. Perfect date night place. Portions are pretty big. I highly recommend this place.
The food was amazing. Very fresh with large portions. I went with two appetizers so I could sample more. A pulled pork and the yucca patties. AMAZING!!! I also got the coconut fried banana and will be dreaming about having that again.
Never had Ecuadorian food until now and I think I'm in love. I just randomly picked a menu item and had some of the best food I think I've ever had. Also, the portion sizes are huge. If you want to jump outside your comfort zone and find something new to explore I recommend Mi Patria.
Friendly staff, phenomenal service, and delicious food! I will definitely be coming back.
A very unique experience! Food was good, but not terribly flavorful. You get a lot! Ordered the Mi Patria for 2 and got to sample just about everything on the menu for a very reasonable price.
This was my first experience eating Ecuadorian food out. The Camarones al Ajillo was SO delicious!!! The broth was the right amount of spicy and the large shrimp were cooked perfectly! Our waiter was very helpful and told me it was his favorite dish, now I know why! We also had the spare ribs which were also great. But that shrimp dish is kind of dish that makes you dream of it later!! Lol. I was so excited to try the food I forgot to take pictures...
The food was AMAZING. We stopped on our way to CO in December. Their food and salsa was SO GOOD we made. Point to stop on the way home to have a quick takeout lunch, and buy some of the Salsa to take home. We will stop her again the next time we are in town. They were also featured on "Dinners, Driven-ins and Dives.
Great little hope in the wall with excellent food. Not much to look at decorations wise but the staff is friendly and the service was great.
Our favorite restaurant in Des Moines! Lunch, supper, always delicious and quick, and always great service!
A hidden gem, seriously blows me away every time we eat there. Great service and excellent food!
Large portions of amazing food at a great price. What’s not to love? Definitely a new favorite!!
I haven't been to Ecuador, but the food at Mi Patria matches my experience in Latin America generally, although the portion sizes are quite large. Good variety of appetizers, four sandwiches and a two-column page of entrees. There should be something for everyone here; mainly meat and fish, with a smaller number of vegetarian dishes. The staff is really nice and friendly, they keep the water topped up and speak both English and Spanish. I've never had a bad experience at Mi Patria, I would highly recommend.
This place never disappoints.
Big flavor, big portions, small prices.
Its good every time we go its one of our favorite restaurants
The food served at this restaurant is AMAZING. I came with a large group and the staff were very nice and attentive. We all ordered a bunch of different things so I tried a few different dishes. They were all delicious. I would suggest anyone in the Des Moines area to check this place out.
Great food. I went with other people and we all loved our food. I got the Hornado con Mote and everything with that entree was excellent. Prompt and friendly restaurant staff. Easy to find location.
Great food, good price, friendly staff. I look forward to making it back again soon.
First time eating here. I took it to go. IT WAS EXCELLENT! The folks there were great and very helpful. I had the beef empanadas and loved them. I had another steak dish (cant remember the name) and loved it. Will definitely go back.
Excellent food! They were featured on Diners Drive ins and dives for a reason! Everything I've tried was always very good! The wait can be a little long during lunch because they only have one waiter. Other than that nothing but good things!
Nice place with great food and service! Their homemade hot sauce is unique and refreshing. Camarones were huge and fresh. I'll be back!
Great food! Dinner for 2 was enough for 4. All very tasty. Homemade hot sauce added just the right amount of flavor and heat. Flan was perfect
Excellent food and service as usual always consistent
Great food! Huge serving so go hungry or plan on taking home leftovers
Good food with service , what else u can ask for
Food was excellent! HUGE servings. Our waitress was outstanding!
1st time eating Ecuadorian food. I'm a little picky so I didn't really eat the salad but everything else was DELICIOUS! The potato cake is one of the best things I've ever eaten! Pulled pork and rice were sooo good! We're going back next weekend.
Really good food! Large portions too. You wont be disappointed
I have heard many a great thing about Mi Patria, and finally had the chance to check it out. It's a hole in the wall, and seems unassuming from appearances, like any other hometown diner. However, everything was clean and I rather liked the simple decor and set up. Sometimes it's nice for the focus of the experience to be on the food and the company you are with, and not with any flashy decor or place settings. Our service was great. They were very kind, explained the menu, and even offered to add an additional menu serving of one of the items we ordered since it came with 3 and we had a party of 4. That was a thoughtful touch! Chicken Empanadas: Wowza. Crispy, flaky crust filled with savory chicken and veggies. These reminded me of a hand-held chicken pot pie, and are a MUST ORDER! Mi Patria Platter: This is perfect for date nights, family dinners, or first-timers. You get one platter of meat to share, which included pull meats, steak, chicken, etc. Then you each get a plate of sides, including rice, hominy, an egg, beans, and plantains. It's the best way to experience a bunch of different meats and we really enjoyed the experience of really sharing a meal together. There's plenty of food too! We had plenty to take home. I highly recommend giving Mi Patria a try!
Had the dinner for 2.Beef chicken, pulled pork, rice beans a fried egg plantains, fava beans, and some special hot sauce. My wife and I will have another dinner or 2 left over can i say very flavorfull everything was marinated in different things. The end result is fantastic.
This place was a surprisingly really good. So good it is totally unexpected. You go in thinking it will be average, but OMG. The food is truly amazing.
I finally pulled the trigger and tryed it for lunch today and highly recommend and I will definitely be back.
Unlike anything I've had before! I barely noticed this little gem of a restaurant but so glad we did! The food is incredible, have yet to find something i don't like, and they give you a nice amount so theres often a bit left over for a snack later! Try their fried plantains, i could eat them all night! Great service, great prices, great food; overall this place is great!
Love this place
We are from Oklahoma City and this place is worth driving here just for lunch. We came up on a good trip and this place makes it worth while. We ordered what DDD ate and you can't go wrong. A lot of food and the prices are good. Delicious. If we are ever back in town we will stop here again.
Delicious!
Absolutely amazing food. Everything is consistently delicious! Service is friendly and the restaurant itself is clean and comfortable. We moved away for 3 years and Mi Patria was one of the things we missed most about Des Moines. When we moved back last month, the food was just as phenomenal as ever, and the staff even remembered us. Basically the best restaurant in the Des Moines area!
I am an idiot. Recently stopped in for lunch with some co-workers, I had only been here once before years ago. I do remember liking it then and thought I should go here more often. Thus, I am an idiot for forgetting about this hidden gem. I had the carne asada, and my only regret was actually eating all of it for lunch. I was so stuffed, but it was so good. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection, it was just the slightest pink in the middle. Most places over cook the tinner cuts of beef. I cannot even describe the beans, I have nothing to compare them to, but trust me they are so good. I have never been a huge fan of plantains, but these little crispy guys go so well with the meal. I was surprised how busy they were for lunch, they are in a strip mall and easy to overlook. There was only one server, but she was fast and courteous! I don't get out much lately, but I will be adding this to the rotation.
I have dined here twice, both visits have been fantastic. Friendly servers who are very helpful with menu selections. The cocktails are flavorful and well made. The food is delicious and the portions are certainly generous. Be prepared to have leftovers for tomorrow, don't worry, it was just as delicious the next day.
Always fantastic food and great service. We go there often and are huge fans!
It's a must try! I'm sorry it took so long to go there. Service was great. Food was amazing! Can't wait to go back & try something else. Save room for the fried bananas & ice cream.
It was a nice surprise to find this place in Des Moines! The food was excellent and now I need to look for an Ecuadorian restaurant in my area!
Everyone in my group really enjoyed our food!
Food was good. Portions are huge. Prices are fair. Service was good. Dining area was clean.
I travel all over the country for work and try to stop at a Triple D spot in every city I'm in. I also try to have what Guy ate the time he was here. This is a great cozy place and the food and service was awesome. Never had plantains and they were delicious. Waiters were very helpful. You wouldn't think you would find this kind of authentic food in the middle of Iowa.
Surprisingly Good food. Bring your appetite you need it,meal 4 - 2 will feed 4.
Delicious food
One of the best restaurants in the state. Been several times; each time we get something different but it's all been incredible. Plus the portions are huge - I've always had enough for a whole second meal. GO!
Delicious, well cook Ecuadorian food in a comfortable relaxed setting. If you like authentic food and not necessarily typical Tex-Mex ( which is also great), you have to try it out. My suggestion... some empanadas to start followed by Mi Patria for two. You won't finish it but you will enjoy it.
Great food and they do serve a huge quantity
It was an amazing experience. The service was great and the food was amazing.
First time, everything was delicious! And great service!
This place is awesome.....friendly staff amazing food!
Was amazing food, nice restaurant. Really nice servers.
Love this place! Huge portions at decent prices. The Arroz Con Pollo that I enjoyed nearly a month ago was so humongous and delicious (even after being reheated) that it lasted me a good 2-3 meals. On my most recent visit, I decided to try the fried tilapia dish (pictured). While it wasn’t as big as the arroz dish and thus I gobbled it up in one sitting, it was equally as delicious. I also really enjoyed the fried plantains that came with this particular dish. Definitely my current favorite way to have plantains!
The absolutely best food I've had in a very long time!! Great service too!
I had never tried Ecuadorian food before and Mi Patria is definitely a place to try out. Food was great, very flavorful. Quantity was more than plenty. Me and my wife had the Mi Patria for two and had plenty of food left over. The appetizer, although a bit pricey for the amount of food you get was very tasty. Topped things off with an Arroz con Leche for dessert, which was also very well made. My only gripe about this visit was the service was a bit slow.
I love this place and it is one of my top five restaurants globally!
The food was so good with huge portions. loved the different flavours and the banana fritters with ice cream just made my day. Will definitely come back here to try out more dishes and the dessert.
Churrasco is AMAZING! They make homemade salsa every day, be sure to ask for an extra bowl of it.
The wait staff is outstanding! They take as much time as needed to explain things on the menu to first timers and the food is delicious!! Will definitely return when we're in Des Moines!
Food is amazing. The service was excellent. Love coming to this restaurant when I visit the area.
Great place, very close to freeway so if you are passing through the state like we were. We HIGHLY recommend you stop by and try this delicious Ecuadorian restaurant.
The food was delicious. I would have given 5 stars if the Arroz Marinero would have had the crab legs as advertised on the menu. I ordered online and didn't have time to send it back.
Love their food! I have had their tilapia and carne asada - both amazing! The llapingachos are out of this world good!
I had such a wonderful vegan meal here! I appreciate that they had a wonderful option for me - which sampled many of the menu items. I also always experience wonderful service and am greeted by super accommodating and friendly employees.
It’s different. It’s good. Service is solid. All the appetizers are fantastic. Patacones and empanadas please.
I have only been there twice and each time SOOOO GOOOD!! The staff is super helpful and engaging. I will be putting this on my must go to places when I come to DSM.
The service was great! Our waitress was kind and patient (we had never had Ecuadorian food). The food was warm, moist, tender and flavorful. The food arrived quickly. Would definitely recommend!!
Delicious, fresh food. I'd never had Ecuadorian food before this location but appeared authentic and I can't wait until the next time I come back! Friendly servers and timely with our food.
AMAZING food! Great service. I never had Ecuadorian cuisine before, and I am now a huge fan! Huge portions...i filled a takeout container with leftovers.
Awesome spot. The homemade hot sauce and the salsa that comes with many of the dishes is unbelievable. Service is excellent.
Excellent food! Excellent Service!
Delicious food, great service. A great place with authentic Latin food. Arroz con pollo was delicious and the Lomo Saltado was an amazing beef dish.
Great food! Don't go unless you have the time to enjoy it though.
Outstanding food and great service. Had flan for dessert it was delicious.
Did our graduation party here. Great staff. Amazing food.
Ohhh boy. This place was such a disappointment. Was very excited to try my first #DDD restaurant. We ordered the arroz con pollo and polla al horno. Definately NOT FLAVORTOWN. No taste in either dish. Had to add salt and ranch dressing to take a few bites. The highlight of the meal were the French fries and plantain. Definately not worth the money we spent on this meal. The environment was o.k. Wait staff could have been a little friendlier and more accommodating when we voiced out dislike for the dishes. Will not return.
We we're passing through Des Moines and had found this place through DDD. It was absolutely amazing. I had the veggie plate and even without the salsa, which was so insanely good, it was one of the most flavorful veggie plates I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned, and generously portioned veggies piled on rice. Would definitely eat here on a regular basis if we lived anywhere close by.
Love this place. Negra Modelo, great food and awesome people. The tripe is quite tasty. Mix the rice in if you get the ceviche.
A taste of home I didn't realize I was missing. Comforting, flavorful, filling. It was great! Would definitely drive this way if I ever have to go through Iowa again.
Never had Ecuadorian food before, but it was pretty good. We shared the platter for two so we could sample several things. The kids had cheese burgers and chicken strips from the kids menu. It is nice that they have some American options for picky kids. The service was good, as well. We do recommend this restaurant!
Fantastic food & very affordable too. Had dinner with a party of 8+ people and staff took great care of us. Food was dropped fairly quickly & portions were generous where I had leftovers for 2-days. If your tastebuds are adventurous and you want to wow your out-of-town guests, look no further; this is definitely the place. If you’re a local & haven’t been here yet...you’re missing out. Small dining area and waiting area but clearly popular for a reason if all the reviews are any indication.
They give you lots of food! It is also very good food. They have average service but their prices are so good it makes up for their average service. There’s typically soccer on the TVs and a diverse group of people eating here. I don’t think the atmosphere is anything special. Just come expecting good food and you will be happy.
Best food in town. Ingredients are wonderful, flavors are delicious, portions are generous. The food here is made with love.
Great food, great atmosphere and great serves! If you don't know what to order start out with their beef empanadas appetizer! You won't be disappointed!
I don't leave reviews usually. But, this place warrants one. Its hard to find good ethnic food in Des Moines so I really appreciate Mi Patria. I ordered Arroz con Pollo and Hornado con Mote. Both were spectacular. The pork marinade in the Hornado had depth to it and the chicken and rice were very flavorful. I had a carry out order so, I can't comment on the service but, the staff I spoke with were very nice and orderly and seemed to a have a bit of a sibling vibe. I hope this place stays around. They just need to keep doing what they're doing. Anyway, I'll be back. For sure.
The food was fantastic and the service was phenomenal.
It was my first time having this type of food and everyone at our table loved it. We got a wide range of items on the menu and our server went above and beyond making us feel comfortable and took his time explaining items on the menu as well as helping with suggestions. I will definitely go back when I am in the area again.
Best South American food I have eaten in Des Moines...ranks up there with Chicago! Roasted pork was so tender and juicy with a hint of citrus...beans and rice and a killer salad...i ordered empanadas (you have to!) And i chose beef which were fluffy and light and crispy heaven, with a little diablo in the chimichurri they serve with them. SO GOOD. GOING BACK! You should too. The people who run the casa were so warm and accommodating, the power went out and we carried on by candlelight.
Great food and service, reasonable prices! Love the pollo saltado!
It was unexpected and absolutely amazing. The food was so delicious, I was kinda bummed that I was full and couldn't finish my meal.
SO delicious! everything we've tried has been fantastic - and we're not adventurous eaters. empanadas, cheesy potato patties that start with "ll-", and the hornado con mote are our favorites!!
Great food!
Saw this small restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and had to check it out on our way through Des Moines. The staff were all very friendly and explained any questions we had about the food. The food was outstanding and very large portions. Looking forward to trying it out again.
First visit and definitely won't be our last! Delicious food in a low-key space. The Mi Patria for Two is a great dish for first-timers interested in trying an assortment of the restaurant's offerings.
Always fantastic! Better than any average Mexican restaurant and you feel better afterwards, definitely feels like cleaner food
100% the best restaurant in Des Moines
Outstanding in every way. And the service was so very attentive.
This is one of my favorite places! Love it! Great food and a good price. Save room for dessert!
Excellent service, our waiter made great recommendations for us. Food was really good and plenty of leftovers.
Delicious food, large portions! Staff is friendly and welcoming. First visit was yesterday, we are definitely coming back again!
Llapinggachos are the best!
Wonderful South American restaurant! Great unusual cuisine.
One-of-a-kind restaurant serving Ecuadorian food. The smell when you enter is delicious. It looks tiny from the outside but has decent seating inside. I like the vegetarian platter and always take home an extra meal or two from leftovers. Try it!
As always, the food, atmosphere, and staff were absolutely awesome!
I have so many good things to say about this place, but I must start with this; DO NOT SKIP OUT ON THE FLAN. The flan was probably the best flan I've ever had. I'm not a fan of raisins, so we scraped them off, but the flan itself was absolutely heavenly. Do yourself a favor and order the flan. The rest of the food was also wonderful. I'm usually hesitant to order breaded shrimp because I've had a handful of bad run-ins with them, but the breading was thin and flavorful. We didn't even realize this place had been on food network until we saw the poster in the back, but now I can see why.
Good food. Wanted to try ecuadorian food, the taste and flavor was little bit lacking for me. I have tried close to authentic mexican food. Ordered the tilapia fish entree, was not very impressed. Try the food for yourself.
There isn't a better pulled pork in Des Moines. The the sides and appetizers you can't get in any other restaurant that I have found here!
Our first time there. Service was good, staff was very nice, willing to answer any questions you might have about the menu. The food was delicious and you definitely get plenty. I will be returning!
Large portions, great flavor, will definitely be back
This was my first experience eating Ecuadorian food out.
Their pork dishes are out of this world. The service is prompt and friendly.
Do not let the ordinary location or the cafeteria-esque interior fool you. If you want a food adventure, here is where you eat. We enjoyed the hornado con mote very much. Very flavorful and juicy pork along with what seems to be large kernals of hominy? Prices are reasonable and the wait staff is more than helpful. Don't be afraid. Try this out.
Food is fabulous. Fresh ingredients and super flavor. Arroz con Pollo is addictive. Service is always fast and friendly. No surprise this is a DDD location.
Mi Patria was great! It was simple, quick, refreshing, and still packed with flavor. We had a platter that sampled three meats, tons of delicious vegetables, plus rice and beans, leaving the two of us with plenty to share and take home. Would definitely recommend giving it a try!
My first experience here. The food is outstanding. The platter for 2 was a great way to get my taste of the food. The meats were all perfection. I cant get enough of that salsa. Will definitely be back and I've recommended to others as well.
Big portions. Very good
We are very lucky to have this restaurant in Des Moines metro.
Great food, large portions!
Great service wonderful food
Love the food.
Courtious, friendly staff and outstanding food with a flare. A wonderful experience!
Delicious food. Very large portions. When I looked at the menu online I thought it sounded pricey, but considering the portion sizes it is quite reasonable. Service was awesome. The server was extremely helpful and patient.
Amazing food. I've only been here once and no longer live in the see Des Moines area, but I plan to make a stop here every time I visit. The food is fantastic and the service was warm and welcoming. If you're thinking about trying this place, just do it! We went with a group of six people and tried each other's entrees and none of them were disappointing. Delicious empanadas too.
Great food, friendly people
Loved it! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious!
Great food at this restaurant! Rich flavors and a variety of dishes on the lunch menu. Definitely felt like I was back in South America. Got the llapingachos as an appetizer and guatita as my main dish. Service was pretty great, a little slower than desired, but good for what it was! Would recommend!
Great food and good service
Food was delicious and portions were large! Definitely on my favorites list!!!
This restaurant one of our favorite if we are at Des Moines, too bad they are on vacation. 3 times we go there and twice they closed.
First time. I would have to try some more before I rate higher. Good large size portions and my food was good. Surprised they did not seem to have a full bar, just beer and wine. I would go back. I had the Lomo Saltado. Comes with soft plantain, the way I prefer.
I loved this place, my first time and fell inlove with the atmosphere, the customer service was outstanding and yes, the food was exceptional. Buenisimo!
Did go, was next door at the pet store, but have been before and it's good!
We always enjoy Mi Patria
Ecuadorian food is awesome! It's not Mexican, or Tex-Mex. It's more closely like Cuban. Their portions are large, the staff is friendly and helpful. The green salsa is one of a kind and you should take some home.
This place is great! Food is very good and the service is also high standard. I never had ecuadorian food before but this was a great first time. I had the cheese empanadas and some potatoes and chicharon appetizer and they were delicious, the entrees were arroz con pollo and arroz con camarones, they are both really delicious. Prices are good for the quality of the food and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. This is definitely a place I would back to several times.
So good! Food is amazing and prices are great. Stopped here while driving through town and it was definitely worth the short detour. Wish I lived closer so I could go all the time!
Did is so delicious I try and eat here once a month
Helpful staff, large portions and really good food!! I had the arroz con marinero, think paella. And very good. My buddy got lomo saltado. Really tender beef cooked with among other things cilantro, which really set it off.
I love this place! The food is incredible. I always have enough for lunch the next day. The staff is wonderful and helpful. Don't miss out on the best restaurant in Des Moines!
Great food, huge portions, excellent service! Wonderful flavor! What a great place!!
Pleasant surprise. This is comfort Ecuadorian style. Kinds of foods you would eat if at home. Service was warm and friendly even though I arrived 45 mins before closing ,(which I usually avoid out of consideration). Not a fancy place. Just good home cooking.
Excellent food, nice staff. The dinner for two is a great value.
Fantastic food and friendly service.
So much good food. Always leave satisfied.
Great home tasting food, love it.
I would drive back from Kansas City just to eat here. Empanadas were delicious and we got the two person platter with pork, steak, chicken and hominy. Everything was delicious, but the pork was my favorite.
