I did find it the tiniest bit overpriced, but I guess with the downtown location maybe that is warranted.I'll probably be back, and I do want to check out the brewery that share space with them.

The atmosphere was relaxed and perfect for visiting while eating. I ordered a beet burger for lunch even though I usually eat meat and meat and it was amazing! Shared a bite with my very sceptical companion and she said it will be her choice on her next visit. The whole experience was perfect that's to great food and superb serve staff.

We visit Cedar Rapids 3-4 times per year and Black Sheep Social Club is becoming our favorite romantic restaurant for cocktails and dinner. Last night we had the Lamburger with Smoked Gouda, Brussels Sprouts with Almonds (highly recommend), Rum Mule, Praline Old-Fashioneds, and finished with the Blueberry Bread Pudding and Raspberry Chocolate Mousse. This place has a great vibe for quality crafted cocktails, hanging out at a large table or the fireplace couches with friends, or an intimate couples evening. They do have a large party room that is semi-closed off. Easy street parking on 1st st.

I did not order a main course so do not feel I can rate any higher. The apps that were ordered were good but it was the fruit and cheese board. No cooking. A person I ate with ordered the zucchini fritters and they were good. I would like to return and order a meal. The atmosphere is great and the service was very good.

Very clean, classy, great decor, good to great staff. We shared the beer cheese pretzel bites. I wasn't impressed with the cheese sauce. It wasn't flavorful. We also had duck fat fries?. They were delicious and served with two sauces that complimented them well. The 3rd appetizer we shared was the spinach dip and chips. Tasty dip, strange chips. Overall very happy with the food. I had two cherry Moscow mules and was happy with them but they were very expensive. Oy! The bathroom was clean and comfortable and everything seemed to be in working order. No broken doors or latches, etc. My friends enjoyed the special beers. My overall impression is that Black Sheep has high standards that everyone can appreciate.

The food here is great, for the most part. I tend to enjoy my visits most for weekend lunch. I went here on a Friday night with two friends from out of town and our table service (and getting a table at all!) was extremely slow, and the food was sub-par (and for their prices, sub-par food should be unacceptable). The woman who bussed our tables was rude, and several of our appetizer plates never were cleared, even when our entrees arrived. We were polite and didn't make a fuss, but we haven't been back on a busy night since. But weekend? Weekend lunch is where it's at.

Get that blueberry burger! I've had several sandwiches on their menu and it is the best. In my opinion it's worth going there just for that! However, they also do a fantastic job with drinks and they've nailed the decor scheme. It can be a bit loud inside though, so a seat outdoors can be nice if it's reasonable.

Food was delicious, atmosphere is always neat (and they have an awesome patio), service was good as well. This seems to be a CR go to. My friend would give it 5 out of 5 on all account simply because of the RAM salad. Which is amazing. But that's just it. There's only 2 or 3 things that we eat there as it's not real accommodating to meatless or "healthier" options. These grilled avocado tacos were yummy! Could have used a little something more tho! I caved and got the fries and they were droolworthy. #guilty

Really enjoy the environment. It is a very cozy atmosphere with a lot of historical charm and characteristics. Only complaint would be the food menu tends to get a little pricey and out of the ordinary for the typical Midwestern appetite. The beef brisket consistently is overpowered with fruit or other flavors that takes away any essence of smoking or grilling. Staff is fantastic. "Clock house Brewing" which is attached to this establishment has the best beers we've ever experienced in craft brewing.

We had a great time. We told the wait staff we wanted to sit outside on the patio because we were recording the Iowa game at home and didn't want to hear it. We were promptly seated outside by the lovely fire. We were there for a few minutes when we realized it was playing on the speaker outside. While we were talking about what to do the waiter came out to us and asked if we would like him to shut the game off on the outdoor speaker so we could enjoy it later at home. We were so impressed with his thoughtfulness. Loved the dessert!

Not a good experience for me. Was excited to give the place a try given all the good reviews. Ordered a Charcuterie Tray to start. Quality of offerings was not good and preparation was poor. Wax ring was left on the cheese for example. I ordered their fish feature for the evening and it was over-cooked. Presentation was strange too with some kind of undercooked pasta. Not impressed...maybe it was an off-day but I likely will not go back.

We had a wonderful first time here. We were promptly greeted with a wonderful waitress named Timia. She helped us decide on what appetizer we should get and we devoured the fries! She kept our beers filled and wasn’t pushy with us at all. I noticed she helped clear tables with the busboy too. My friend and I came here to kill some time before the Clock House brewery opened. The atmosphere was fairly posh, but the price for a beer was reasonable and the staff was friendly. I especially liked the mosaic-style tiling and the clock inlayed at the entrance. Be prepared to pay steakhouse prices for food. It''s on the upper end of things, but still par for the course. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat, so I can't speak to the quality there. It seems like a great place to take a date for a semi-dressy evening.

I was here a little while ago but this name sticks out to me so much. As someone from the East Coast, I don’t think I’ve ever had a better meal in my life. On top of that, I think this was also one of the least expensive meals I’ve had. I’ve lived near New York and DC my whole life, and this restaurant is truly better than some Michelin starred ones!

Beautiful place that’s easy to make a downtown trip for. Parking available too. This place offers specialty cocktails and off the chart beers from Iowa and other craft beers from all around. Great for business meetings and private business dinners as well. Clockhouse brewery is attached and gives an after hour hangout with friends and family. You won’t be disappointed with their food menu and appetizers! Great for visitors and regulars while in Cedar Rapids!

Did a long lunch with family. Seated quickly. Drinks came quickly. Had an issue with a flat beer but it was immediately rectified. Menu was varying, eclectic, daring. We had the duck fries (amazing), drunken roast beef sandwich, and two people had the Cap'n Crunch fish bites. Everything was fresh, presented well, seasoned even better, and the sauces were all unique and flavorful. Will go there again on my next rip to CR.

The Black Sheep Social Club is great. It is very trendy with great decor. You feel good just being there. During our lunchtime visit a great sound system was playing just the right mix of tunes to compliment the atmosphere and decor. As far as food goes, at lunch they have a simple menu one would expect from a grill. I liked my extra thick hamburger and my wife enjoyed her vegetarian beets hamburger. She also had sweet potato fries which came with a delicious chipotle sauce. We don’t know what the evening menu or feeling is. But I would recommend visiting at off peek time to get great seating near the bar. I liked it much better than the table and chairs away from the bar. The unique atmosphere even extends to the lobby and restrooms. There is also outside dining. Finally our server was excellent. Friendly and upbeat.

The restoration of this restaurant space is amazing. Every time we go I enjoy marveling at the details. We've dined here multiple times because it is close to work & home. We tend to dine at the bar. Service and food have both been hit & miss at times, but when it's good, it's really good, so we keep returning. They've also provided comps on the times they have fallen short. I love how they change-up the menu; I just wish they would post their dinner specials earlier in the day. Often by the time I see something I'd like to try on their Facebook page, we've already chosen our supper.

I would not recommend the charcuterie board. We were expecting really good cheese and got cubed Colby Jack and smoked Gouda. I have fancier cheese in my fridge at home... And it was pretty sparse for what you pay for it. Everything else was amazing especially the service!

A great place to have a drink with friends, get a full meal, or both. Home to Clockworks Brewing. The food and atmosphere is some of the best that Cedar Rapids has to offer. My bride had the Ragu and I had the Bone-In Pork Chop. We shared a Lamb Meatballs started and the Blueberry Bread Pudding in Bourbon Cream Sauce. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Each menu selection was clearly marked for Dairy Free, Gluten Free, and/or Vegan. They also offer a nice variety of drinks. The bar has nice lists of beer, wine, mixed and neat drinks.

Very impressive from the outside. If you drive around the block there is a private lot for parking, but it fills up quickly. Besides from that there is some street parking offered, but I could see how on a Friday night parking could get really problematic. The outside of this place is seriously impressive. Lit torches and lights make for quite the ambiance while walking in. Once inside, the high ceilings and polished floors five off a comfortable, if modern vibe. From the door you can see the bar, and the large tanks where beer is brewed. I came here for a business dinner with a reservation, and the table was set and was seated immediately. Drink menu was thick, and the house IPA I tried was quite good. I'm not sure if it was because we had a newer server, or were a larger group, but service was very slow. However, the food, once it arrived, was impressively plated and tasted very good. I got the cowboy cut pork chop with the creamed corn. Seasoning was very good, the pork was cooked properly and overall, I really enjoyed it. Overall, I'd like to come here in a smaller group and try appetizers. They looked very interesting. Only thing holding back this place, from my experience, was the slow service.

First time exploring Cedar Rapids and we are very happy we chose Black Sheep for our big lunch option. We spent a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon enjoying the unique drinks from the bar and the appetizers. The Crunch Town Fish Nuggets are made with a blended up Cap'n Crunch breading. You wouldn't know it from the actual dish. It gives a unique local twist. Most reviews recommend the Fish Nuggets and the Duck Fat Fries. We enjoyed both.The drinks are really the main star here. We tried a salted watermelon vodka mule and the brandied pecan old-fashioned. I wouldn't have guessed the latter would be so good, but honestly we are coming back to have these again and try more. The beer menu is also impressive.

It’s was our first experience there, was not happy. We were with another couple, 3 of us got burgers and ordered Mid Rare, not one person received a Mid Rare burger. One was Well the other one was Mid Well and last but not least the 3rd one was Medium on one half and Well on the other half. I work in a kitchen and that’s pretty amazing, it wasn’t even during the rush or busy time. Asked for a Pepsi was asked “is Coke ok?” but your menu says Pepsi products “sorry we just changed to Coke Products”. Overall the only good thing was the wings and the beer. Still waiting on the Bleu Cheese for my wings and the napkins we asked for. Thanks for worst first experience.

I really love this spot and I try and go to it whenever I am in the area. The menu is eclectic and you should be able to find whatever suits your taste. The service is second to none, and all of the employees are wonderful and always willing to help you out. The drink menu is also great. The Black Sheep is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Cedar Rapids! It's in a nicely restored and redecorated building in CR's downtown. They have a very unique menu, and excellent service too. The bar itself is really cool - you should really read the menu description of how it was made. I'd highly recommend the Black Sheep, for either a couple or a group!

This place did not disappoint. The place is huge, a bit kitschy, with a slight Willa Wonka steampunk kind of feel but very modern. Very cool, if I were a local I could see me hanging out here. Good beer list but an amazing cocktail list with a lot of really unique drinks- sriracha grapefruit Moscow Mule, anyone? The number of mules was a bit ridiculous, easily more than a dozen types.

I once thought highly of this place until tonight. Yeah it was a busy Friday evening. Nice out. Kelly C. was in town and Benz was on ten with the cider event. Anyway, we thought black sheep would be great place to end our evening. We get there and they said for our group would only be 20/30 mins...they sat us promptly without a reservation (which explains my 2 stars). The food...(I’ve ate here more than once) here was disappointing. Unbelievably disgusting. Well..my meal was. It was so bad I thought it was a personal joke. The duck fat fries...burnt. The filet tenderloin...over “well done” (I’d asked for med well...too much?)—it was burnt. No I didn’t complain...we were out with my partners friends so I didn’t want to draw attention. Anyway...my gut hurts so bad (figuratively speaking) by how disappointed I am about this dinner. Black sheep has ruin what was once a pleasant experience. What a shame.

In a city where foodies go to die - this is actually pretty darn good. Pricy for what it is / but considering their competition (non/existent) it’s understandable. Great Mule cocktail list, the food menu is usually varied and they make everything on it well. It’s easily the best restaurant in Cedar Rapids - in fact that gap is huge.

Had dinner at this excellent upscale restaurant in the downtown area on a recent visit with my sister. Enjoyed a special cocktail during a short wait at the bar before being seated in a very comfortable booth. Just had to try the coffee & chicory encrusted pork chop since I'd never seen that on a menu before. I was not disappointed - it was delicious! And the service was very good.

Our experience was ok. I thought the prices were expensive for what we got. The menu is small, which is actually nice. The duck was good, but the steak offered is a cheap, tuff cut. We we're looking for a new restaurant and it was ok to try. Black Sheep will not be on my - have to go back list.

Service was attentive and informative. Beautiful interior and worth a visit just for that. My sister is a vegan and got the vegan burger. Somewhere I had read a complaint about how the vegan patty "fell apart," but she pointed out that's how they often are since there's no animal fat holding them together, and she's had many like that. I had a regular burger and requested that it be cooked well-done, which it was perfectly -- no pink and not overcooked. I definitely will return as I want to try other menu items. If you "like" their Facebook page, you can get notifications of their specials as they do add unique menu items AND have guest chefs. This is a welcome addition to the downtown Cedar Rapids restaurant scene. If you are watching $$$, then try them for lunch. But I do want to splurge on a dinner sometime in the future as the entrees look delicious.

OMG!! Duck fat fries... Everything was so good!!! I ate with my eyes and not my stomache here. I was so hungry and ordered more than I needed. My 2 friends also got the most yummy items!!! I can't wait to go back!!!

I've experienced their hospitality on more than one occasion, and always enjoyed it. Interesting mix of clientele, great atmosphere, and super friendly wait staff. The bartenders are mixologists of an excellent order. The various varieties of Moscow Mules all deserve sampling. Nice mix of televisions for current sporting events . Parking can be somewhat challenging on the weekends, but I feel the place shines best during the week, when conversations can be had and the interactions a bit better defined. Having a brewery on site adds to the charm.

Three words... “Duck Fat Fries”- Double fried potatoes, white cheddar, Bacon, green onion, pepper flakes, tomato jam, chicory aioli. Our first visit to Cedar Rapids and looking for a nice place for lunch. They did not disappoint. Very cool restaurant/bar with a fantastic atmosphere. Waitstaff was very nice and helpful walking us through a very inventive and fun menu. The food was great and just an overall cool place to hangout downtown.
