This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Cajun restaurant.
I went to the Mass ave. location for lunch today and had a terrible, embarrassing experience. I have been a loyal customer of the College Ave. location for over ten years, but I was on a job near the downtown location so I gave it a try. I am a young black man and I work construction, I brought another guy I work with who was also black, and dirty from work like me. The young blonde guy behind the counter acted like he didn't even want to serve us. When I ordered my own food, (a half and half with extra bread, and a drink for myself and my friend) this guy actually sneers and says "are you sure you can afford it?" I may not look like much, but I guarantee I make three times in a week than that creep. I then waited on my food for 10 minutes before I asked where it was, wherin the employee smugly says that he forgot to put the order in. I hate to think what he did to my food before it came out, but after another 10 minutes I had a pile of bland, reheated slop that pales in comparison to the mother store. Joe needs to get a handle on what is going on at this store, this isn't the first accusation of racism. No reason a working man should feel uncomfortable downtown trying to eat unpretentious grub. Lots of construction going on, get your act together.
Last time here was 14 years ago, and the food is just so good we couldn't pass up a visit. Did not disappoint. Really good quality etoufee and gumbo. Great service and very clean restaurant. Hope to be back sooner than 14 years.
5 stars in my book. FYI, get there as early as possible for Jambalaya, they sell out of this amazing dish. The bread is delicious. Staff is always nice and laid back.
Great food as always
Not as good as some of the other yats but its the only one that usually has curry chicken.
Food is fresh and tasted amazing.
Great Food & Excellence environment
Great food, smallish portions, in a fun neighborhood.
Chicken Curry and Gumbo was AMAZING! Quick and friendly service!
Yats is amazing. It's our go to (the wife and I) for casual dinners because it's always super quick, affordable, and delicious. My faves are the 2 etoufées (spinach and mushroom, and chili cheese w/ crawfish). Cannot recommend this option highly enough!
Awesome place. Menu changes daily so you might not be able to get the same thing every time. It gives you a chance to change it up. Has vegan and vegetarian options so it’s good for when you have friends with different diets. Super fast. Super cool, not akward. Chuck is the man!
The food (Gumbo) reminded me of something an older person would eat as it was pureed and my order was to go and they put my garlic toast in my food so that it was soggy by the time I got home. It should be rapped in foil or separate container. I was very disappointing.
Yum! The chili cheese etouffee was delicious.
Had lunch with my cousin. Very generous portions and delicious food
First visit was great! It’s a small menu with big taste. I ordered the Gumbo with rice and a hard peach flavored cider. The Gumbo wasn’t spicy, but they do have hot sauces to spice to your own content. The bartender, I think his name was Ryan, was friendly and helpful with any questions we had about menu and drinks. He also brought our group out some bread to enjoy with our meal as well. Delicious casual dining, great prices, and friendly environment, what more could you want? We will be back!
It's always good food at Yats. A dependable choice for when you're hungry and you want quick and tasty food. My favourite part might be the seasoned toast tho
Great spot for lunch or dinner. Usually has good seat availability and parking can be found behind the building. The menu changes each day in what is available and has a good selection of vegetarian options. You can opt to get half and half to try two things. Very good!
I eat at Yats once each year when I'm in Indy for Gen Con. That's often enough for me. I like the Chili Cheese Etouffee, but I always find myself wanting to try something new. Most of the other dishes end up falling short of the etouffe. A friend describes it as slop on a styrofoam plate, which is accurate, but it's generally fairly tasty slop. I'll probably keep coming back because my friends like it a lot, and I don't dislike it.
Simply delicious and great music!!
Easily the best cajun/ creole around! The fact they're a chain restaurant doesn't stop each one from being totally different from the last, but they all have the same great taste!
We had a marvelous dinner and atmosphere is always very nice we are looking forward to going back
They advertise as a Cajun place but they have no Cajun food, it’s all vegetarian. They look offended if you ask for gumbo or jambalaya. NOT a Cajun place
Every times the best time, just don't move the tables.
Yats was great, only downside was most of their drink machines were down.
Friendly staff and a delicious and fairly low cost meal!
GET EXTRA BREAD. ALWAYS. Red beans and rice with sausage, bread and blackberry wine slushies are to die for. Food is good. Nice location. Staff is always super helpful.
Yats is the ultimate cheap food: it comes out in no time at all, it’s incredibly flavorful and filling, plenty of great options, and a fun relaxed atmosphere. I’m so glad Yats has so many spots around town. Make sure to ask for extra bread, it’s dirt cheap and so so good.
I love eating at Yats. The food is delicious and comes out quickly. It is faster than any fast food restaurant I have been to.
I was passing through Indy and decided to give this place a try. The food is okay at best. It certainly doesn't have the intense flavors that you'd expect from Cajun food. It is quite inexpensive, but it seems like they use very low quality ingredients and styrofoam plates to make up for it; the meat was very scarce. For a place with such good reviews and an attractive menu, it's quite underwhelming.
I love this place. Food is great! Never super busy during dinner.
Great food.
This place is way better than the one in Columbus don't go to the one in Columbus
Taste was about the same as others I've been to. But their portions were smaller
Never had anything bad. Fast service. Prices are decent.
Love you guys! Always on top of it, and the food is awesome.
Yats is always great. I would share a picture with you but I ate it to fast to snap a pic. I would recommend the drunken chicken, you also have to get extra bread no doubt. Parking at this location is not very convenient, but it's down town Indianapolis what do you expect...
Good beer and food and good ppl environment
Service was very quick and the portion was a generous amount.
I went here to fill out an application. I haven't tried any foods yet.
Never enough good things to say about this place. Everyone is so friendly
It was my bf first time. He really liked the food but wanted all of mine since he ordered something different. Service was great also.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! Perfectly seasoned delicious food, great service, and a clean inviting environment. I live in ATL, but whenever I'm in Nap I get some Cajun cuisine from this awesome spot!
Delicious fresh food. Can't go wrong.
Crazy good Cajun food. Super fast service, a great deal, and the staff is always friendly. The drunken chicken is always a safe bet, but I've never had anything I didn't like. They also have a great selection of local beer.
Hands down my favorite place to eat. Great staff and environment!
Addicting and worth every penny.
The food and atmosphere was great.
If you don't know, then you are missing a big part of your life.
I cannot eat spicy foods at all yet my husband had been wanting to go. The gentleman running the front helped me order something that was tasty and not spicy at all. I enjoyed my meal. It was a nice meal with meat, rice & and a really delicious gravy over everything. I was really happy to find the staff knew about the menu. I would certainly go back now knowing there is even someting for me.
Always great food and good atmosphere
I love Yats and have a consistent experience at every location. I really wish they would be more environmentally conscious and stop serving on styrofoam.
Nice place to visit Louisiana food and beer
I come from Cincinnati area to visit Yat’s !!!! Joe is still rocking it. Best Cajun ever
My favorite of all the locations and my favorite spot to relax and people watch. Never mind that they remember my name. Lol
Yats is one of the close-my-eyes and go-to places in Indy for me. Although most of the time the only vegan option on the menu is the vegan white chili, it's quite delicious. I only wish they could make their food spicier. Their wide assortment of hot sauces is never hot enough. All in all, great food, quick and friendly service.
Chili chicken etouffee with crawfish makes me wish there was a Yats in PA!!
What is there to say? Phenomenal food, excellent wine slushies, and friendly staff who care about their product.
Gabulous food and always so polite. We at mayflower love it! Try and you will see why.
Food tastes good, slightly over priced. But what it does to your bowels I wouldn't wish uppon my worst enemies. Proceed with caution, this food is designed to make you toilet ridden for days.
Very good food and atmosphere. I felt like I was right back home in Louisiana
That half order of B&B, need I say more....drool session has commenced from the memory and taste of yesterdays order
Very fast service! Wish portions were a bit bigger but it tasted great! Get the Half & Half!
Great food and a good beer selection
Absolutely loved the place!
My whole family loves Yats! I love how the menu changes weekly, although they do keep some menu items the same. You will get a large portion of rice with smothered in your sauce of choice. Must mention the amazing garlic bread served on the side, drooling right now.
Great food at a good price. The location is great with plenty of parking behind the building. The cashier was a little weird when I went but only a little.
The food is always good. Don't let the construction stop you. You can still get there just not from 10th street
I go to Yats on a monthly basis and typically love it. My last experience though was pretty bad. The service was poor and despite being the only ones in line the staff was very short with us and rude. Then when I got home my full order was barely a half order. This was a different location for us but I was just surprised by how bad it was.
Great: - Flavor (saucy, over rice) - Portion Size (comes w/ buttered bread) - Music Notes: - Go to counter to order (fast casual place) - You can do half/half to try two flavors - Food is served on a styrofoam plate - They serve alcohol
Confusing menu - because of that, new customers consistently ask the staff related questions, and I heard the staff complaints privately saying that he was sick of explaining the menu. Oops, my bad for asking questions that you were tired of answering. The food is a bit overpriced in my opinion - it is unique in the market of Indianapolis though.
It's 5 kinds of pre made chili laddled over basic rice. It does have some seasoning but the presentation is just terrible. Like you can't tell which plate is chicken or not. They do have a vegan option which I ate because I'm lactose intolerant. Other options had pork sausage or milk and cheese. No desserts. No salads. No veggies. My college dorm food was better than this.
Pretty good food. The service is quick and the atmosphere is better than most. The dining area is very unique and very fun. My only wish is the menu contained more tomato based sauces and the food had more spicy options.
Food was good just different at this location. You have to get your own food they d9nt bring it too you. Also you need to get your beer at the bar. We asked for the food to be put in to go boxes and it was serve on a plate. Just different experience.
Joe has it dialed in, period. Others try to get the flavor, texture, selection... they try. Add all of that with the absolute best personalities in the service industry, and you have my absolute favorite place in the country. Yes, country. You don't go to Indy and not stop in for a bite!
ASK FOR A TASTE! GUARANTEED you will fall in love with something! MAYBE even something you never thought you'd try! but be careful, i love so many so much, i usually end up leaving with a spare box!! + scratch real food ❤️ you can pick up @ same $/time ⏱️ as poison "fast food" !?
The food was good as always and the staff were quick to get the food out. I will definitely be going back
The best restaurant... on the planet.
The food is delicious and the staff are nice.
great service and good vibes are guaranteed
The chain is really good and I go every time I visit Indy. Avoid the Mass Ave location. Staff made snarky comments after I declined to tip on a carry out order.
Visited the mass avenue location today July 4th. Only about 4 people in the restaurant, myself and my boyfriend walk in and seat at a table in the bar area. We were not greeted, nobody brought us menus , the male working behind the bar continued to sip his drink and text on his phone. Another male came from the kitchen area also did not offer a greeting or if we wanted drinks/food. After 10 mins we left the restaurant. The lack of professionalism is appalling , will not visit this establishment again. I sincerely hope this isn’t a racism issue but can’t help but feel that way .
Nice employees, good food.
Always great to be back in Indy, just for Yatz! Was missing my old fav spinach & mushroom etouffé tho
Great for a quick and comfy stop
Yats downtown fills this great niche of cheap and accessible and good that nobody really realizes they need until they're daydrinking on a Wednesday and can't stand all of the fancy restaurants on Mass Ave. They have rotating food, serve more alcohol, and the staff is great.
I love it there
Yats was great got the half and half drunken chicken and white chilli so good...
I didn't LOVE it, but I'm a big texture person. My dad LOVED it and my fiance liked it a lot as well. Drunken chicken, chorizo, and B&B (vegan meal). Fast and friendly service!
OH MY GOD!!!! If I weren't afraid of carb loading and swelling like a blimp I'd eat here EVERY DAY!
The setting is as informal as the food. The food lacked a real Cajun seasoning that I know should be in Cajun cuisine. While the prices are tolerable and the setting is laid back, I don't think I'll be returning.
Love, love this place. Makes me feel like I am back down south again. They are a friendly staff, with amazing food. We go here alot.
Good place to eat, not expensive, definitely unique up in this "Yankee territory".
The staff here is excellent! Great food too.
I’ve literally never had a bad meal here. The staff is awesome. The food is the fastest you can get. It’s always an exciting time in the day when I walk in the door to YATS!
Absolutely delicious. If you enjoy cajun food, check this place out. Bonus, parking is free in the back. For Mass Ave, you can't beat that.
Fantastic fast-food Cajun. Menu changes daily, be sure to check online. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Reliable comfort food. When they have Drunken Chicken on the menu, you're in luck.
I and my co worker went there today.....his meal was only $5.00 I ordered the same thing without the extra cheese...my bill came to over $9.50 !!! Even tho a few of my co workers like this place..........They just got a no bill from I. I rather eat a pb&j before I ever go back there again !!!!! I pray it wasn't a color thing........ .drunken chicken never again.
good A+ food good A+ people. good yats.
Food is always good. Service is hit or miss.
Good service
Love the food
Food and service are always great.
very good food and service
Get extra bread, you wont regret that much
This was walking distance from the downtown event we were at and the 3rd YATS I've patronized. A larger more expansive window lined dining area makes this Mass. Ave.YATS a great one to visit. I got the spinach and mushroom ettouffee which is my new favorite. If you want something fast and different from your normal burger fare, this place will definitely hit the spot!
Cheap eats, quick and good food as always. Gumbo and Chili cheese crawfish etoufee are my go to meals...
Great service and amazing food.
The food is delicious but the bread th at they bring you with your food
Food was fast and good. Staff was friendly. The drunken chicken was a bit too spicy for me though. They also did a great job making sure my friend's gluten free order was indeed gluten free.
Their food is usually served over rice and is saucy... but always delicious!! Vegan and vegetarian options, craft beers in stock, Anand always a cool atmosphere. Cant go wrong! Met the owner our first time there for our anniversary and he even gave us the meal free!! I will forever be a fan!
I've heard from a couple of New Orleaneans "it's not cajun, but it's good." Cajun-inspired sauces over rice include red beans, jambalaya, etouffee, and my favorite, drunken chicken. Most people love the garlic bread. I love that the prices are low, atmosphere festive, and they have rotating local beers on tap. A great place for lunch or dinner, family-friendly.
Always great food and they treat you like one of the family!
Love this place. Stop at one almost every trip to Indy. Great spices, bread is good. Never disappointed. Had the drunken chicken and peanut butta pie.
We absolutely love the chili cheese etouffee!!!
Great service, so friendly during the pride parade!
Great food, great service, laid back atmosphere
a step above cafeteria food.
Etouflee dishes are excellent. Great, unusual creole restaurant with friendly employees.
Good Cajun food. Large portions. Decent prices.
Everything is good and it's hard to decide. Thankfully you can get 2 different dishes with the half and half.
Staff and food are second to none!!!
I love how fast they are, and the food is top notch!
Very good food with very large portions.
It's... I mean... You just can't beat this place for quick, really good "goop over rice". The etouffes are spot on if not a little too buttery sometimes, and the rest of the dishes are just as good. Drunken Chicken, Maque Choux, and if you're lucky enough to find the Ropa Vieja, try it. All other Cajun places around have fallen off, not Yats.
Favorite spot for a quick bite.
The food here is always amazing!
Their bread is fire .
Yummy, yummy food. The maque choux was delicious.
Great location on Mass Ave. Good food and quick.
One of my favorite places in town!
My go to joint for Cajun food. Super fast staff and excellent prices on some really great food.
Excellent, consistent food. A fabulous Cajun atmosphere and choice blues and jazz music to accompany their great food. Joe Vuskovich has created Paradise for, and with, lunch or dinner!!!
Great food, great value
Yats is awesome. Good food, fast service - what more could you ask for? They have options for the omnivore, the vegetarian, the vegan, and the gluten free crowd. It all tastes fabulous, and the prices are very, very reasonable.
Service was fast. Red beans and smoked sausage was AMAZING!!!!!
The food's always great. The service is spot on every time. Get extra bread. Just do it. You'll be glad.
The bomb diggity of Cajun food in Carmel. I frequent this place and have never been disappointed. The helpings are generous portions. Who doesn't like to fill up on Cajun food?
Great food for the price. Decent veg options. When I went, they had a pretty good mushroom and spinach etoufee. A half portion is all I need, as a relatively small lady. I always appreciate not having to wait long for food!
Best. Food. Ever.
Casual place serving new Orleans style stews with rice n bread. Over the counter service with bar option. Good price point. Well worth a visit.
Dont know how healthy of a food it was but sure was tasty
Love this place and eat their or carry out at least one a month. Love the food.
The Food here is awesome!!!!!
Excellent food and great prices. The drunken chicken is one of the best dishes I've had anywhere.
Yats is a staple in Indy. They had many items out of stock when we ate there. The food is hot and prepared right and the store was clean. I feel it lacks a good size menu and would like to see more options.
Fabulous food, and friendly service. Real Cajon food in Indy.
Wonderful Gumbo, lunch with my son
