This used to be my favorite place to go to, but this past 2 years my experience has not been very good. Both food and service quality went down significantly. Waiters are not attentive and everything takes forever. What they offer is not very consistent in quality. Before they automatically gave you and your dog water as soon as sitting at a table, but now they do not give it to you unless you ask for. But waiters are not around you when you want to ask for water or anything else. Number of foods on their menu definitely shrunk too. They used to have more options. In addition, their foods do not taste as fresh as it did before anymore. It has been such a disappointment lately. Oh by the way, DO NOT PAY WITH CREDIT CARD. They overcharged me several times. Every time I asked them to correct, they said the return will be made in a few days, but it never happened!

Outdoor terrace next to Lake Michigan has great views back towards Chicago downtown skyline. Food is not bad, typical bar stuff. Service, however, is comically awful. Nice staff, but totally clueless, as if they don't get any training: every time I've gone here, they sit you at a table, and then you don't see anyone for ten minutes or so, not even to bring water, much less take your drinks order. So, great location, but be prepared for very long wait to get served.

Stopped for some quick grub and drinks while on a bike ride down the Lakefront Trail. Very quaint and simple setting with a great view of the lake. Definitely recommend for a bite on a summer day! A hidden gem. It's not about the food and drink (which are pretty good and prices are mid range) but the ambiance.

Super delicious food and excellent service. It's a really nice spot with some very cool summer/beach vibes. I'm honestly surprised it's not more popular. I was served stale fries but the sandwich definitely made up for it. There's a hint of lemon (maybe lime) in the chicken sandwich which I've never had before— it was superrrr delish. Definitely coming back before winter hits us.

Service was ok. Not good. The food was sort of a joke. Reminded me of the high school cafeteria, just took 40 minutes longer to get. The waiter poured the beers in a glass for everyone, but only the first four ounces. And it was all head. The waiter was only available once during the hour and 15 minutes we were eating and drinking there. That being said, the location is everything with this place.

I came here with my dog in May and was very pleased. The views sitting at the restaurant was incredible. It felt like I was on a tropical island having dinner. The Edgewatermelon drink and the tuna stuffed avacodos were very good. I liked the pineapple that was added to the dish, which added a tropical flair. The waiter even brought a dog dish and water for my dog.

Not the best food but then you don't really come here for the food; you come here for the view which, as you might expect, is lovely and atmospheric. As it is an outdoor restaurant located right next to the lake, they're only open during spring and summer.

Unbelievable location, right on the lakefront. Large assortment of tables with and without shade. Thought the menu was a little pricey considering the vibe, but the portions were very generous. No fault of our server, but the service was a little lacking. Took a solid 30 minutes from the time we sat down to the time we saw any food. I think the place just opened for the season a day or two ago, so they may be working out the kinks. Would like to go back in the evening to see the lake and sit under all their little lights.

This is a spectacular place on a nice summer afternoon or evening. There is a tiny cover charge for entertainment, but really incredible place. The beer was good, but I would skip the cocktails.

This place is great for the view but not much else. The food is over priced and french fries come with everything, gross. I'm not one for pineapple on my veggie burger so I got a PB&j. My family loves the ambiance and the water so I'm sure they will continue to go here.

Everything was good, but I expected more.. No complaints at all about the crab cakes. Had the tuna stuffed avocado salad and it was good but the canned pineapple in it really fell short. Tried the hibiscus tea and blueberry lemonade and both tasted like they were instant mixes.

Great place for a bike ride destination for lunch. We've had salads, sandwiches and burgers, and they've all been very good. Can't beat the lakeside location and view!

The view is great, impossible burger pretty good and the mission is on point! Unfortunately I have to rate this place 3 stars for a few reasons. The vegan wings are like chewy bricks covered in cheap bbq sauce, the mules are made with bottom shelf alcohol, and you have to get your own water. The place was empty, asked our server for water and they pointed to it’s whereabouts and headed back to Station to chat. Lastly, there was a person smoking cigarettes on the patio and staff didn’t say boo- I did, putting everyone in an awkward position.

After a stressful travel day & the woes of parking, the Waterfront Cafe was such a welcome start to my vacation. The view, environment, doggos, food, and staff were just what I needed to begin unwinding for the weekend. The chicken sandwich was 10/10. If I could improve one thing it would be for them to get different fries. Steak & shake is the only one who needs those kind.

Beautiful location to hang out! The staff is wonderful and very, very courteous. Their food isn't great and they have a hard time with mixed drinks, so I'd suggest coming here for a beer or two with some finger foods (fries) while you wait for a table at another restaurant. If they stepped up their food game just a little bit and paid attention to detail with their mixed drinks, I think this spot would amazing!!

My first visit at The Waterfront Cafe was quite enjoyable. This place has a welcoming atmosphere with prompt service and good food. I'm not a seafood eater though had a menu for those that are; the pastrami sandwich on a pretzel roll was delicious. If asked by friends or others, I'd recommend this cafe of my first time experience.

No impressed by the food. Not a lot of options: mostly sandwiches and fried stuff. I ordered the crab meat cakes, and they were good (probably the only thing I would order again). Based solely on food, I'd give it 2-3 star max. However, this place is all about the view. It is amazing!!! You are right in front of the lake, and honestly it makes for a beautiful environment for relaxed conversation during the day, and drinks in the afternoon

Look, I love this place. The lakefront atmosphere is the best in the city, and the whole place feels like an oasis. I'll come back like I always do. You should go too. But the service is garbage half of the time I visit. My waiter took one drink order from me then disappeared. I had to flag down a random server to get any kind of service. They never check in, my drinks were long empty before anyone came back to check on us. It took over 20 minutes for someone to even grab our checks. The wait staff looks nervous and confused.

I love the live music I’ve seen there on some nights! The service is nice. I would recommend considering it’s the closest I’ve experienced in Chicago to a European cafe next to a body of water but I wish the food as better.

This is a great hidden spot on the lake front. It's next to a park and right off of Sheridan but you can't hear the traffic. You also can't see the skyline so it's a little hideaway in the city. Menu isn't large but the food is good. Cocktails are pretty delicious too. Service was a little slow and there is only one bathroom; other bathrooms located in other buildings on the property. Definitely recommend going to visit while they're open.

I love this place! It's a hidden local gem but... the owners and staff need to resolve the bug infestation. I was attacked by super sized mosquitos and that is my only reason for reducing my rating from 5 stars to a 3 star review. I want to enjoy my company, entertainment, and drinks, but thday is not happening if I'm getting attacked by bugs.

This is one of the relaxing places where you can enjoy the sunset and listen to live music. However the food used to be good here and not as good as before starting 2018. Update July 13, 2018. Waited in line 30 minutes and eventually we were not allowed to keep our sleeping 3 month old baby in the stroller. Decided not to eat there anymore.

It has a perfect view, fairly friendly service, and is just a few steps away from my home. The fish and chips were decent. This place has been featured by Time Out Chicago, and it's one of the very few places near the water front. The food is not the greatest and a bit overpriced, but the location makes up for it. It's almost impossible to find a good waterfront restaurant in Chicago to have a snack and a drink. The Waterfront Cafe is the best you're going to get for this.

The Waterfront Café has an amazing view! You sit right on lake, its beautiful night or day. The food on the other hand is a hit or miss. Some days the food is very fresh and on others the food taste old/ stale. I personally go for the location!

I'd love to tell you about the food, but since no server ever approached us, we didn't stick around to find out. The host was friendly and greeted us and seated us promptly, but then we sat. And sat. And sat. Meanwhile, the staff walked past us repeatedly and looked over at us numerous times but never once approached us to say hello or take our order. When another table was seated right beside us and a server approached them almost immediately after we'd been waiting for about 15 minutes, we left. The view is beautiful, but the service is atrocious. There's only so much pretty scenery can make up for.

Love this place, but the greeter and seater is sub par. Basically, The woman in charge of seating does not know what she is doing. Not looking at maximizing tables. For example, 2 people seated at a 2 tables that could be split to have more patrons seating. Or, seating parties of 2 on large picnic tables because they were in front of a party of 4. Then causing all to wait for another larger table to open up for that party of 4 before she can move down the list. The atmosphere is casual, so patrons are even willing to share seating. But , she does not seem to get it. Then a large wait area , but no drinks served in the there. Lots of lost revenue opportunities. Too bad.

I've been here a few times, once for food and a few times just for drinks. Waterfront Cafe is a cute place and has an excellent view of the city and the lake. Sometimes I don't enjoy outdoor seating, but this place is actually very clean and has a nice atmosphere. Each time I've been here I've had a very nice waitress and I've enjoyed the mojitos. When I came for food, I enjoyed what I ordered but felt that the prices were a little steep. My husband and I started with chips and guacamole, which was tasty but expensive for the size. The chips were homemade and seasoned well. I got the Aloha veggie burger, which came on a good pretzel bun and had tasty toppings (pineapple, a sweet BBQ sauce, onion, and lettuce). However, I was somewhat disappointed that the $12 burger was a frozen patty that was heated rather than a house made patty. I'd expect the dish to be less expensive since it was not homemade. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and said it was excellent and he had no complaints. Overall, this restaurant is in an excellent location and the food tastes good though the prices are higher than they should be. Even with that in mind, I know I'll go back because of the location and because nothing I ate tasted bad.

The location (that view) earns at least 3 stars alone. I mean, come on. So, that's out of the way. The food can be hit or miss depending how high your expectations are (don't put them too high!). It's also a bit pricey and options are pretty limited. So, that might lift your expectations a little too high before the food gets to your table. Service is above average most of the time. That all said, there is an atmosphere worth writing home to Mom about. I personally think it's a must-go if you're in the area. Enjoy.

Many establishments have come and gone in this location over the years with differing menus and equally differing qualities of their fare. (I miss Sesi's Seaside Cafe, which was the best of them all.) For an establishment that has the word "cafe" in it, however, this place sure serves a lousy cup of coffee. The menu is overpriced as might be expected for a "cafe" situated on the lakefront: You're paying for the view and not necessarily for the quality of the food. I find that it's much cheaper, not to mention more enjoyable, to sit down on one of the many benches facing the lake with a homemade sandwich and salad, and a travel mug filled with home-brewed coffee, which will doubtlessly be a better cupper than they could ever hope to serve.

The view is amazing. Wait staff is pleasant. Good food. Steps from my home. Berry bourbon drink nice with fresh fruit. They make own tortilla chips. Guacamole is fresh. Every time I go something changes. Because of tariffs they discontinued guacamole. Then the next time there were no more fries because the fryer fan died. Now they discontinued lunch times as they are short staffed.

The restaurant was a hidden treasure on the lakefront. The food, live music and our server were great. The only con was the that it took almost 20 mins to get our food order, and anther 45 mins to receive our meal. I only took off one star for that because it just allowed us more time to enjoy the lakefront, the music, the people watching and the weather.

I rarely give 4 stars for anything. But the view was gorgeous, the service was fantastic and prompt. The food was only so so. I would expect the quality from a small diner in the middle of nowhere. It felt generic. Edible for sure, but certainly nothing special. However the views were gorgeous and that made all the difference in the world.

Great hidden gem in Edgewater overlooking the lake with all outside seating. It is generally open from Memorial Day to the last week of September. The food is pretty decent and the service is friendly.

The view of the lake here is amazing! One of my favorite places in all of Chicago and one of the best kept secrets. Definitely worth a visit, but it's a seasonal place and closed during certain times of the year, so definitely call ahead before going.

Perfect patio and inexpensive meals for excellent lunch and dinner dates with a great lake view. Casual, dog and kid friendly, and live music nights. Neighborhood gem.
