The Palms Grill Cafe is an original cafe on Route 66. It was well known for its ability to hail the bus for passengers waiting inside by turning on a red signal light. I stopped in for a cuppa, had some blueberry pie and a chat with the waitress, who was very friendly. It was an absolute delight
Loved the food. Great classic Americana atmosphere. The Ruben was top notch.
Very nice, nostalgic dinner on the heart of Route 66. Delicious food and friendly service. The desserts are heavenly! Can't wait to come back and try the root beer float!
Good Rte 66 cafe atmosphere & cafe food.
Watched Billy Connoly's Route 66 that featured this diner. I am about an hour and a half away, and will definitely come by for some good cooking and a piece of pie. Collinsville IL
This place has been through a lot over the last 5 or 10 years, including many changes of management. But it seems to have really found its groove with the current management. The food is absolutely fantastic. Everything I've tried has been outstanding. The service has been good. The atmosphere is great. I especially like the old 1950s pinball machine that is still working perfectly.
Love Dan Tackett pickin and chicken
Good meat and two. Great pies!
Had a good lunch here.
We happened to stop by there on a crazy busy day. Normally I would deduct a star for how long we had to wait, but the staff were so amazingly friendly and helpful that I'm adding the star back on. We took our kids there and they loved being in an old 'diner' and learning how to open bottles with a bottle opener. Our friendly waitress let us know about the museum upstairs and so we had fun looking through a small but surprisingly interesting local museum while we waited for our food. And the food... SO GOOD! Very tasty and presented in a very appealing fashion. We cleared our plates! Regrettably, we were only passing through on a road trip, but if we lived in the area, we would be regular customers!
Nice, cozy little restaurant from the 1940s on Route 66...not far from a few sights!!
Nice place with a lot of history. Museum is upstairs.
Great Route 66 stop off. Getting your kicks and all that!
I stop here every time I come through. I have never been disappointed. And their pies arr delicious.
Good food selections and great pies.

The best home made pie in the United States.
Wunderbaren Burger mit einer Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit genossen.
Amazing waffles. This place is a hidden gem inside a Nice historical building with a meuseum to check out.
Great food, great service and old time diner.
Loved my skillet! So delicious. it sounds weird but it was one of the best I've ever had. And the employees were so very nice. The guy chatted with us and the other table that came in. Answered questions and provided insight. I hope i have a good reason to be back in this area again soon because I'll be back here to dine again!
Why not have an experience instead of just a meal.
Amazing venue
Huge portions, home made fries and pies
Cafe on the historic route 66
Pretty fun stop on rt 66. Unexpectedly Interesting museum. I will definitely be back someday...
This is a delightful kitchy diner. The food was terrific, the pie was DELICIOUS! But, the interesting part was the museum upstairs!! Really interesting history & local history. A perfect stop on any route 66 travelers agenda. There was a patch of original road at the edge of town! The folks in Atlanta were just so nice & welcoming.
Wonderful food & atmosphere. There is a great, little museum upstairs, too!
Very nice atmosphere as a small cafe! Great food and good service! Highly recommend!

Nice restaurant along old route 66. Nice for nostalgia buffs.
Great food and nice employees. Well worth the stop.
Great place. Great food. And really BIG portions.
Love this quaint diner! Food was good, as well as service.
Must stop! Waitress was so nice, showing our family all the Vintage Route 66 collection and pics. Great food, home-made ingredients, loved it.
Fun place to experience the past AND enjoy a great meal. The Reuben sandwich is my favorite, but the holy smokes burger and the fried chicken are close behind.
Vintage feel, good food, only thing to mar the experience was the catsup. Very good hand cut fries and I poured runny vinegar flavored sauce over them. Don't know whether was cheap catsup poured into Heinz bottle or watered down. Friendly service, great pie.
Great diner off of Route 66 in wonderful Atlanta, Ill. I always try and make a point to stop by when I drive through the area.
It was a nice experience been in a cafe so old, nice food. Friendly people working there
Home cooking at it's best, and don't miss the pie.
Best grill cafe.
Wanderful
Stopped on the way to St Louis. Yummy and affordable! Try the ponyshoe!
Server was not friendly and the hashbrowns where supper greasy siad some to the server and he only said sorry .. Food could be better
Lovely cafe with very nice staff. The place has a lot of history and old-fashioned charm, and really tasty comfort food to back it up. It was a refreshing oasis on a long trip.
Really great diner for the Route 66 experience. Good food, friendly staff, period decor and music. A+
Great pies!
Nice experience
Nice roof top deck. Gets a little crazy and the service can get sporadic.
Great home cooking, located on Route 66
Excellent burgers good service
Great homemade food.
Old cafe on Rt 66. Food is so-so
Expensive and don't suppose constitutional rights of citizens.
Good but not great hamburger. Spotty service.
A classic American cafe at the central road of the Atlanta city. Beautiful, traditional cosy place which serves breakfast, tasty hotdogs and homemade sweets. It is an inexpensive one, a must visit at the town of Atlanta, the staff is helpful and polite.
Always great check hours before driving very far. Great food rt. 66 travels
Their Denver Skillet is so good and so filling. Wonderful, friendly service.
Location and history of place along with museum are interesting but the food was awful.
Burger was wonderful!
Great fish
I visited the restaurant for the first time on 3/11 arriving at 11:15am. The waitress was friendly and asked for drink orders very soon after I arrived. I ordered coffee with cream. The coffee was brought promptly but it was room temperature. They opened at 10:00am. After I told the waitress she said "I didnt know it was cold". I did receive fresh brewed coffee but had to wait for it. I ordered an omelet with mushrooms and onions. It came with shredded hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were soaked through with oil. The omelet taste and texture was pretty good but again the veggies were oil soaked and the outside of the omelet was oil soaked. Because of the old cold coffee and the over use of oil in the food I had to give a lower rating.
Charming diner with great food and a small town feel. Service was excellent and so was the ponyshoe.
I had the all you can eat fried cod with handmade fries. Great service and great people. There's a museum on the second floor. Great place to stop by if you are making a Route 66 Road Trip like me!
Delicious Denver skillet! My wife loved her BLT! Very nice little Diner with a small town charm! Very friendly service and the prices are fair for quality and portion size. Nice fresh home cooked meals! Will definitely be back in the future when back in the area.
Great ambience, great food, great staff. Been there multiple times and will continue going back. It's like stepping back into the '30's and '40's.
Perfect food, perfect service, perfect ambiance. This retro diner, around since the early days of car transportation is a fun stop for the entire family. Most everything made in house. Walls chock a block full of memorabilia. Vintage machines, too, in working order. Bonus? Giant hot dog man across the street!
Excellent food and service. Great atmosphere. Worth a stop at a Route 66 town.
Good food
Great food and old times atmosphere. A+
Driving to Chicago we pulled off in Atlanta for fuel and food. Drove a little further to the Palms Grill. Found the cutest diner with delicious food. Super friendly staff. I got the special of fried chicken and mashed potatoes. The chicken was absolutely divine. Very flavorful and tender. Definitely a hidden gem. Will be stopping back again!
Great food, great service.
delicious food an excellent service.
Delicious pie, but they're super slow.
Great diner. If your in the area or driving through it’s a must stop. They have a cute museum upstairs and the chicken diner was the best I have had in years. Bill was a great host and very funny. All of the staff was great and friendly. Two thumbs up.
Amazing food, very friendly service and loved stepping back in time playing with the rotary phone and pinball machine.
Charming interior and tasty food.
In my visit to the palms the manager was cussing at his employees in front of customers, which was very uncuthe. Food tasted old. would not go back...just keep driving.....
Yummy pie. Good selection.
Great service. Amazing home-made grub. Lots of history. Great stop.
Step back in time with this delightful 1930 Style Cafe. Food is very good at a reasonable price. The owners are very friendly. Definitely worth the stop if you're into 1930s nostalgia and driving along Old Route 66.
Fantastic food and friendly service. Historical landmark still operating as the Palms Cafe.
Excellent food, clean establishment, friendly staff. Would definetly wat here again.
Had Easter Brunch
Outstanding bordering on spectacular!
Love the food best burgers and chicken tenders and my dad and mom works there which makes it even better highly recommend this place
Along route 66 you come into Atlanta...this is where I discovered my most favorite diner. The food is fabulous and so is the service. Eating here is an experience of places long ago. You have an all American icon there and I will support your diner forever. Take the time to stop in and taste not just the food but a piece of Americana. I love you folks!
Nice place good food fair prices.
I held a workshop in their event room. The space was beautiful, well equipped, and the food was delicious! The participants in the workshop raved about the space and the food. Working with Bill, the manager, was smooth and great. And, the space was very affordable.
Love this place! Great food, fabulous diner cups/ dishes
The fish and chips were very good. The ambiance is excellent! The waitress magnificent. ... we'll be back!
Adorable place in a cute little town, great award winning pies and super friendly staff. I had the corned beef hash with eggs, totally perfect. I even took a slice of blackberry pie to go.
Like the food and severs
My wife and I celebrated our 37th VALENTINE'S DAY DINNER here.
Great food!! Especially the fried chicken
Staff very friendly, food slightly above average. Everything was good except fries were disappointing
Very interesting history with great old fashioned ice cream soda. Friendly staff with fantastic ambiance.
I drove 2 hrs for the pie,, and coffee and pie are not the best... They say pie is the best.. The only good thing is the music.. Is Saturday, 6:00 pm.. They're out of almost half menu.. So no food to criticize I'm glad...
Food was not good. Hand spun milkshake was melted. 'Famous' pie was almost inedible -cinnamon overpowered blackberries and way too much thickener (uncooked flour)
Good service and food
Hidden Gem on old route 66.
So just so happened to find this little diner right on the old route 66, in a cool, small town. Very friendly staff with some cool story's to tell, the food was excellent, especially the horseshoe which is an original recipe to the state of illinois. If you get a chance stop here. London
Very nice staff, clean environment, very relaxing, the museum upstairs is beyond awesome.. prices are very good.. so are the root beer floats
Great atmosphere and delicious food!
Charming original diner with excellent food and personable service. Great prices.
What a gem! I stopped in to use Atlanta's free electric vehicle charger downtown and ended up staying for pie and coffee. Behind the unassuming store front is a 1950s style cafe with a counter and tables. Don't bypass the cafe and the town while passing on I-55.
Love the staff and great food, the style of the cafe takes you back a few
Great burgers and even better pie!
Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere! You get a great plate for very inexpensive. We tried a variety of dishes from pulled pork horseshoes to salads to waffles. You will NOT leave hungry! The team taking care of us tonight was highly hospitable and professional, while not being overbearing. We were extremely comfortable, and we loved the atmosphere of the place. Such an amazing historical gem!
The service was wonderful from beginning to end, great cook, willing to make substitution, very fair prices, freah potato chips and fries so yummy and not greasy at all. Our server was very kind and went above and beyond for us knew what we needed before we did. Will be going again. Great for families!!!!
Hands down best fried chicken. Move over Paula Deen. Loved this place. Like going back to the 50's. Hubby had a full breakfast delicious. Myself fried chix. Homemade mashed potatoes. Staff was very friendly. Home made pie to die for. Keep up the good job.
Visited for lunch with my wife. Had pork tenderloin pony shoe. Cheese sauce really good, homemade fries, meat quality OK. Service was excellent, quaint place, museum upstairs. Homemade pies and desserts.
Great location, lots of local flavor. The bologna sandwich, hot dog with pork, Reuben and Palms burger were all fantastic! Next time we'll have to save room for pie.
Very good food and very nice people.
The Best
Sought this place out after seeing pictures. We love this kind of stuff! Beautiful and accurate decor of the era, friendly waitress (Thank you, Sheila! ), and food was awesome! Delicious Patty Melt! People are so friendly, ended up talking to our table neighbors Felt like I stepped back in time. Must see and stay at this place.
Best restaurant around by far
Geat home cooked food very friendly service awesome pies especially the coconut cream.
FANTASTIC!!! We WILL BE BACK!!! Best on Route 66!!! Great people and great food!!!
A bit of nostalgia Great cafe on Route 66 good food great memorabilia stepping back in time great restoration to former hey day
I love coming here, eating delicious food, and stepping back in history. My latest visit I saw the original phone in use.
This is such an awesome diner. I have been here several times when working in the area. This place has such COOL history with route 66 I believe I read somewhere that it dates back to the 1930's. The food is SO SO delicious. I have not had a bad meal here in over probably 20 visits. Just leave room for their pie choices and check their hours of operation . I believe they are closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.
Old route 66 cafe
The food was perfect diner food, and the coffee was fresh and hot even at 2:30pm. We took pie to go and enjoyed it at our next rest stop break :) This beats the average road trip stop by a long shot!
This is a great small town restaurant! They have very friendly and accommodating staff. The food is great! Fresh made fries. The Frisco melt is delicious. The chicken strips were very tasty too! They even made my daughter homemade honey mustard sauce for her strips. It is so worth a stop! Hours are not standard, so call first.
Excellent food with fun old timey arcade for the kids and the young at heart
A must stop for lunch when travelling Route 66
Great food. Great service. Great prices. Cool little place to eat!
Quaint little hole in the wall with good pie. The ponyshoe is more than enough food. Good pie selection.
Had a great meal and wonderful entertainment, very professional staff, will go again, already scheduled..
We felt like we went back in time in this cute little cafe off of Route 66. We were already full from eating earlier but we stopped in for some of their delicious homemade pies and a piece of red velvet cake.
Step back in time and enjoy a diner from the past.
a great iconic American diner in small town right on the old rt66.
A quaint, classic cafe feel with great food and friendly service
Dinner & a museum!

This place is very good if you like the old fashion style. The food there is amazing I would recommend going there.
Great food and service at reasonable prices. Very friendly.
Great pie. Cool local museum upstairs, though one display is a bit disturbing.
Enjoyed our meal and service. Friendly staff. I can't can't resist their pulled pork sandwich. My husband enjoys the meatloaf.
Loved it. Enjoyed the museum while we waited for the food.
Best small town dinner. The waitress was adorable and so sweet (angel) had to get pie to go ☺
