"Real food". That's all i can say. Especially, homemade jam and blueberry creamcheese. So deliciousss.
Nice place for a cup of coffee and other breakfast foods
Awesome bagel sandwiches!
Great sandwiches and good coffee in a nice atmosphere. A bit crowded at times and the food is on the pricey side($ 7-$10 for a sandwich) but it's worth it.
Love their flavored lattes. They change every couple of weeks and are not super sweet (just the way I like it). Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. No public restrooms though, and it closes by 3 on the weekends
Hands down my favorite cafe in Chicago. Best bagels I've had in Chicago. The have great pastries and do-rite donuts too. Coffee is a great deal if you drink it there.
I wanted to support local businesses. I stopped in and ordered from their specials, which was a pizza bagel. I ordered the pizza bagel for a breakfast sandwich (the cashier talked up their delicious pizza bagel) and another different breakfast sandwich. Many minutes later I would say approximately 4-5, a man came in and ordered. He also ordered a pizza bagel. He got his order and left even though I ordered first. He got the last pizza bagel. The staff waited until he left to tell me they were out and that I should pick another bagel. They never offered me the upcharge difference because the pizza bagel was more expensive until I had to ask. I was extremely upset because no one had informed me and I ordered a significant time before the other customer behind me. If they had offered the sandwich I didn’t want for a discount or had been nice I would have given a 3 star review (their sandwiches were very average for the amount they charge) but they were rude about the whole process explaining to me they run out product. Well don’t advertise it, have me buy it, sell it to the guy behind me, then not offer to give me my money back for the upcharge until I have to ask. This was over 1 year ago so I have had a lot of time to think about this moment that made my whole day bad and I am still angry about the way they handled it. They messed up, I didn’t get what I ordered and they still made me pay for it. They gave me the option to return it for a full refund but they had already made both sandwiches and I wanted to support small business. I should have returned the whole thing.
Great coffee shop
Good food, coffee andntea. Can be a little pricey and crowded at times.
An Amazing lunch cafe!
Great food
Great food, excellent coffee and friendly staff. Food prep can be slow, but it's worth the wait.
Great Coffee and Treats with a Twist of Flavors.
What a wonderful staff! They're all easy and fun to talk to. Great selection and menu with a bunch of house-made goods. A great place to stop after you get off the train.
Awesome coffees, food and atmosphere with great staff. They compost pretty much everything and give great discounts on coffee if you bring your own cup.
Delicious Food! I nicked a star since the young lady with the dermal piercing was so rude when taking my order that it really ruined the experience and I unfortunately will not be returning. However, I do urge all to try the food. Yum!
I like their coffee much better than starbucks.
Dude
Great coffee and doughnuts. A little small but we were able to get a nice seat.
House-made organic everything. Fantastic place, great drinks and food. I wish it could be so much larger. But life just ain't fair, man.
Best latte in the city!
Friendly staff, good food and good drink. They can get fairly crowded at times, but they do the best they can, adding a second register by tablet to try and speed it up. Highly recommend.
Food is amazing. Will be back no doubt. Rush customers out right at three pm even though it takes time to get the freshly prepared food out to you... Wish they would let you finish eating before putting up chairs at 2:50 or brought out cleaning chemicals.
Great service really great food, small but cute place to grab an go...
Have been coming here for years. Food and drink are delicious and the people are really nice.
Good vibe!
Food is awsome. But too many a holes sitting around not eating food soaking up the wifi or doing homework while you hold your food and wait for someone to leave so u can sit.
First time at this cafe. Delicious food, just right portion, and priced right. Definitely visiting again!
My favorite bagel joint. Try an everthing bagel with homemade hummus. The hummus is truly unique. Grab a latte while you're at it. They're also really good.
Bagels baked fresh daily. Awesome flavored cream cheeses. Ingredients sourced from the garden across the street (in the summer). Delicious coffee. Super friendly staff. What more could you ask for?
Cool spot with interesting decorations all over the place. A little close quarters but that makes it cozy. Would be 5 stars but they don't have a bathroom which cut my conversation short since I had to leave. Makes the $4 mocha just a tad overpriced if you have to leave before you're done with it to use the bathroom.
Absolutely adore this place. Amazing selection of rotating coffee that is always fresh and delicious. The food is ridiculously good. It is and will always be our go to road trip meal spot when leaving the city. Always love taking newcomers to the neighborhood there as well.
Great food and local vibe. The owners have Louisiana roots and the decor shows it. Very artisanal and delicious food.
My go-to during the work day. Valhrona Chocolate Donuts and Banana Chocolate Sweetbread are the tastiest treats you can ever want.
I come here all the time for breakfast
Try anything it's good!!
Small place, more of a takeaway since the seating is sparse. The coffee is good, the sandwiches can be hit or miss. They have a nice selection of items. The location couldn’t be more perfect.
I mean seriously, how hard is it to get someone an untoasted bagel and cream cheese? Too much of a task for this place. And the lack of respect... sheesh.
Great service, small location, wonderful food selection! Best part is there is free parking around the corner, pay for parking out front and literally right off the brownline Montrose stop. Love this place, I've been a couple times!
Better than Starbucks
Everything about this place is
Great Food and Great Staff.
A cut above
Always awesome food, always innovating. Great place. Neighborhood gem.
Fantastic space with friendly staff, good food, and fast, reliable internet. Who could ask for more?
Best coffee in the area, great sandwiches and pastries!
Very cozy and cute Cafe. Fresh, well prepared, flavorful food options. The pep rally is one of my favs. The entire staff is super friendly. Highly recommend!
Good coffee and great bagels. Workers are highly skilled.
Great service wonderful fresh food!!
Enjoyed the food. Service was very good.
Delicious sandwiches and amazing Counter culture coffee! They also sell coffee beans and crafty pickles and sweets.
Interesting, tasty coffee. Root beer with expresso is delicious
Good eats and great coffee. Vibes are chill with plenty of seating and fast wifi. Bagels and sandwiches coupled with lattes and coffee. What more could anyone want.
The best coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods
Delicious bagels, thoughtful and attentive staff. Get the whipped feta cream cheese, it's amazing.
Small coffee shop near Brown Line Ravenswood area Montrose stop. Coffee: Earthy, rustic, smooth low acid. Not dark over roast. More like a Caribou not Starbucks. Tea: Rishi brand tea. Black, green, or Herbal Eats: Small sandwiches and snacks Easy hand food. Inside: Wood and nostalgic decor 1900s quaint Small Few duo tables. One 6 person thin table Tight Min power outlets Outside Curbside below Train. Flower boxes Semi shaded trees. Service: Counter was fast on the pre made drinks (iced coffee or daily hot coffee) Outside the table busing was lacking. Some old plates left around. Mostly guests didnt clean up after themselves Recommended for a coffee fix
Unique. Delicious. Fresh.
Try this for breakfast: --toasted blueberry bagel --with smoked ham --swiss cheese --rehydrated chili flakes** ...It's the right balance of sweet, savory, and spicy. It will absolutely change that morning train ride ;)
This place is what I think of when I imagine a welcoming cafe: delicious coffees ready to roll, skilled baristas, and a simple yet delicious menu. The sweets and treats they offer are all locally sourced and the environment of the cafe is absolutely lovely.
So good!
Grits and coffee! Lots of care goes into the food and drink.
Cozy little neighborhood cafe with delicious sandwiches, coffee, and bakery items steps away from the Brown Line.
Great food and great coffee. Try the breakfast bowl or sandwich of the day! It never disappoints.
Most delicious donut I've ever had!
Sure, the is coffee is good.* But the sandwiches are outstanding. Bagel or bread they are creative in conception and expertly assembled. * better than SB in the next block. Why do people go to SB when Spoken is here?
Amazing coffee and food. Wonderful staff
One word. Spoken!
Great breakfasts and coffee, warm and friendly service. Highly recommend coming here!
Great cosy hang out with fantastic coffee and tasty food.
Great everything!
A neighborhood staple. Great food and wonderful staff.
Unreal cappuccinos, incredible sandwiches and pastries with in house pickled condiments.
Always true, always good
Best bagel spot in the city
Cute and Quaint. Fresh coffee and the food smells great!
Cool place! They had some tasty homemade snacks and a dj was spinning when I visited. If I lived in Hyde Park I would be here all the time
Quite the rustic retro place
Cozy little corner shop with coffee, sandwiches, chips, and soda. Plus there's a bakery cooking up treats. Great for lunch, there's almost always a nook free if you need a minute to sit down and read with your coffee. Can get busy from the work crowd.
Great bagels, great coffee with two rotating options every day, what more could you want?
Expensive but delicious and worth it. Staff are super friendly and space is cozy.
Incredible sandwiches and the Walnut butter is unreal!
This cafe is a staple in my weekly routine both because of the excellent coffee, delicious eats, and friendly faces. Their espresso is several steps above in flavor compared to the Starbucks down the street. I would also recommend trying the breakfast sandwiches which are hot and fresh with real ingredients.
The food here is amazing!! Everything is super fresh and tasty. The staff is always on top of things and the atmosphere is great. It's a little small so if you are looking for space for lap top time on the weekends you may have to wait, but it's well worth it!!
I love Spoken. It's quirky and lovely. Great food from scones to sandwiches to pickles. An expensive yet treasured neighborhood gem.
Great breakfast and lunch options, a little on the expensive side but still very good.
The Smokin' sandwich is really good.
Proto-hipster neighborhood coffee + sammich joint. Stopped by around 10am to get a quick breakfast and caffeine jolt. # Food Everything bagel + "Eye of Sauron" house made cream cheese spread: I love spicy. This had a decent kick. Bagel was toasted well, with great bite and flavor. Cortado: Good consistency and flavor. Espresso wasn't as lively or nuanced as some others, and the steamed milk wasn't particularly sweet, but I'm nitpicking here. It was solid overall -- especially given they're more a cafe than a dedicated coffee bar. # Service Baristas were friendly, and the wait was not long at all. # Ambience The place had a quiet murmur of music and voices. Perfect for getting some work done or just hanging out and catching up. # Seating Probably 6-8 cozy tables with handmade wooden seats/stools, plus bar seating against the wall. Seems like seating could max out pretty quickly -- we were there around 10am and seats were 80-90% occupied, though bar seating was empty.
They have homemade syrups to add to your coffee. Delicious. I need to come back here to try their food next time. Good service.
Modern take on old favorites. Many ingredients made in the cafe like pickles and sauerkraut. Delicious!! Had the turkey Reuben and the Chi-talian...grandkids had grilled cheese...all fresh and delicious. Cafe is casual and inviting. Friendly staff. Easy access and good street parking at 1:00pm on Tuesday.
Good product, but very slow for being located right off the train. Not the place to grab a quick bagel and coffee on your way to work. Very leisurely. Good food though, although they run out of bagels around noon.
Awesome, inventive, and real! A hidden gem. Go!
Great food, great coffee, sustainable.
Lackadaisical staff. Definitely not fast.
I love this place, everything is great here. Amazing food, delicious coffee, and super great staff. Their special are one of a kind!
I LOVE this place so much. It reminds me of home. The homemade cream cheeses are incredible. The bagels are fantastic. The staff is super friendly & knowledgeable. I'm addicted to their smoked salmon bagel sandwich. If I could eat there everyday I probably would
Está muy bien el servicio café y los panes
Hearty savory options with great coffee, plus Do Rite doughnuts. Literally, everything you need.
Amazing food and coffee.
Best cup of black coffee I ever had! Amazing food and super friendly service. Walked in not knowing anything about this place and within minutes they became my favorite cafe in Chicago! Also very environmentally and sustainably minded going extra mile to ensure well being of coffee farmers. Love it. <3
The coffee from a Chicago roaster was outstanding and my bagel sandwich had high quality ingredients. Don’t forget to try the old fashioned donuts. I will be back.
The baristas are always so friendly, and the decor is super cool.
Best, and most unique, latte I've had in Chicagoland. The people working there are a very nice and attentive. The sandwiches are great! Esp with their homemade BBQ sauce...
Love this place! I'm in the city for a few months and am so glad I found a cool little corner coffee shop with good sandwiches, good coffee, and a good atmosphere.
A great little coffee and sandwich shop. Everything I've ever had here has been great. It is small and can get quite crowded and backed up.
Really good coffee with a wide variety of bagel and sandwich options. The in-house nut butter was outstanding along with the vegan donuts.
One of my all time favorite haunts.
Went in today and got the Medusa and a Chai tea latte' with Oat Milk. Everything was delightful and their cashier/ barista Brandon was DELIGHTFUL.
Insider tip: 1) get the pressed focaccia for any of the breakfast sandwiches - it’s phenomenal. 2) there is a bathroom but it’s difficult to get to. We have been coming here three weekends a month for nearly two years and I don’t know why it took me so long to write and review. We love this place! The specials are always delicious and themed with a fun name. This is a low-key atmosphere but take their coffee and food seriously. Donuts are Do-rite doughnuts and they have Floriole pastries. They also have a small area to buy coffee related gifts.
Always cosy and warm of heart. Featuring locally roasted coffees.
fantastic staff, great homemade items, and the honey lavender latte.
Longing for a Louisiana theme coffee shop and southern hospitality? Spoken, a café provides a friendly and warm environment to enjoy a rich cup of coffee to stay or on the go. Located under the Montrose brown line makes it very convenient for commuters, and the selection of breakfast sandwiches are great both in flavor and presentation. I recommend the Mamou Mocha, a combination of cayenne pepper, espresso and chocolate with a breakfast or lox bagel, enjoy.
Phenomenal vibe, food, and coffee in an incredible neighborhood.
Great little cafe with great sandwiches. This place is a hidden gem.
Awesome food and coffee but quite expensive.
