Came for an early breakfast yesterday. Really good food, and great service. The sourdough toast, the maple bacon...crazy good. We enjoyed the pancakes and the eggs were cooked to perfection. Taking off one star for the Honey Burnt Toast, which we ordered twice and never came, and then was brought to the table right before we checked out. And, it was not burned (it was barely toasted) and it was soaked in honey....in other words, an underwhelming, not quite toasted, soggy sugary piece of bread. Had we paid the $5 for it I would have been upset, but it was removed from our bill for the hassle of actually getting it. Other than that, we'd likely come again when we're back in town!

Great location and very nice interior. The food on the other hand is very average, the menu had a blend of shareable and main courses with Asian spin. Had the Brussels sprout, they were a bit undercooked and way too salty (too much soy sauce). Also had the lamb shank, it was cooked very well but lacked in flavor. Service was great, server was very attentive and really nice.

Food was very good. Service was excellent. We had shakshouka, lemon pancakes and the chia cereal bowl. Shakshouka was okay - poached eggs, spicy tomato sauce and kale. The tomato sauce was good, but I didn't love it. Shrug The lemon pancakes were delicious. Really. The chia cereal bowl was also delicious, but richer than I had imagined. We got there maybe about 9:30 and they were not very busy.

I have to hand it to my wife for finding this wonderful trendy casual dining place in Chicago. The restaurant is noisy and busy in a good way. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals and their company. This place offers some interesting blends of coffee and of course simply American cuisine. We had enjoyed the steak and salmon dishes. They were juicy and flavorful. Additionally they can accommodate strollers and offer high chairs. Thanks for the meal.

I've found this place when looking for a good coffee shop around the area. The restaurant is separated from the coffee shop and they don't even mention it or have a menu showing what they serve in the coffee shop. This is very misleading because I only came here expecting to have a nice cup of coffee. I waited 15 min to have a cappuccino ready. Plus the food in the coffee shop is exposed and full of bugs flying around. Unacceptable in such an (apparently) elegant establishment. If you are looking for a nice coffee shop this is not the ideal place.

Amazing! Went for dinner and then again for breakfast. I ate vegetarian, the yellow tomato gazpacho and the asparagus and green peas farroto, husband had the prime burger. Each was prepared to perfection and divine! The fries were wonderful. Something for everyone. Waiter recommended the caramel pie, so glad he did. Never had anything so delicious.

Their brunch is very good. I had an eggs Benedict that was probably one of the best I've ever had. Also the service was great, no need to chase down a server like most of busy brunch places. I'd recommend making a reservation as there was a line by the time we had finished eating.

it's just okay food isnt that impressive. Came here on a Saturday night for dinner. Service was slow and seemed short staffed. it took forever for our drinks to arrive. Our server forgot there was a b'day at our table, so that was kind of disappointing.

Stopped in for lunch and we are so glad we did! To be on the safe side, go ahead and get a reservation. However, we didn’t have one and were seated within 15min at 12:30p on a Wednesday! I got the Chicken Kabobs with Brussel Sprouts and my husband got the Chicken Sandwich. The food was so great, the service was great and the portions were perfect. We loved everything. The restaurant has a modern earthy feel with a lot of healthier options on the lunch menu BUT alot of great looking dessert as well. We tried their brownie and it was DELICIOUS! Next time, I want to try the Nutella stuffed cookie

The service was beyond excellent Kate knows her stuff .. Knows the food ... knows when to approach a table so as not to disturb the dinner conversation. It's all about the customer. Refreshing! Great spot for brunch and pastries! We reserved a table beforehand, which I recommend because the line was long. The food was delicious, i couldn't decide so I ordered two plates: the lemon pancakes and a veggie omelet. Both great dishes. The toast and raspberry jam is to die for! Drinks are amazing as well. Can't wait to go again!!

Great food & atmosphere. Had dinner with three children and they were very accommodating. The braised short rib was amazing. Would go again just for that. Didn't like the burrata but could just be my personal preference. Didn't order anything from the Cafe but it seemed worth checking out with baked goods and good coffee

The breakfast is very good here. The line is crazy but you may catch a spot at the bar. I loved avacado toast soo much ! I added a poached egg on it and it was delicious ! The drinks are very good here even though our choices were not the best. Also, definitely have the honey toast.

One of the best places for brunch. Everything almost everything is great. We had the avocado toast which had a nice kick with fresh halepjenos and chicken sandwich. Highly recommended but do make a reservation to avoid long waits

I love Beatrix. They have a well-curated selection of chocolate--try any bar by Nathan Miller, you won't regret it. A small but widely varied and tasty hot bar--although I bought butternut squash there that was labelled as sweet potatoes--with something for everyone and a steady, dependable focus on healthy versions of foods. A great selection of soup--I am partial to their beef & barley, and a variety of tasty pastries--in particular their lemon angel food cupcake. Hot sandwiches ready to go, cold sandwiches, salads, juices, oats, eggs and a near-plethora of other items guarantee there is something for everyone in the small space. I have never been into the restaurant portion, but would do so with no hesitation based on my experiences.

Whether you grab a bite to eat from the Hot Bar, Salad Bar, or dine in for lunch. You can never go wrong with this restaurant! The food is always hot and fresh especially the breakfast hot bar! Plenty of choices.

Such a great location (just a block east from Michigan Ave) and nice setting (kinda casual, woody, relaxed vibe), it's a shame they can't get their food up to that level. The last 2 'real meal' visits were mediocre or disappointing. So I wasn't enthusiastic when a friend suggested meeting there @ 4pm for a coffee/dessert. Good news is, I've found the one thing I can say they do well. Always room for dessert! Hint: skip the few choices on the menu (although the description of the chocolate cake there sounded tempting, just too heavy, pre-dinner!) There's a coffee bar up front near the door with a wider selection. My pal & I both liked our choices. Coffee? Unfortunately: not. Flavor was OK, but absolutely no body. Common guys -- we're rooting for you to get that right!

Made reservations for breakfast for this place before arriving in Chicago in May. Other friends had breakfast on a different day. I looked at the baked goods while waiting for my coworker and his wife and everything looked great. When we were seated, I ordered the blueberry boost while my coworker's wife got the mango, orange and pineapple nectar. She had the pepper and egg white sandwich which was just the right amount of food. My coworker and I both had the eggs your way. I had the brown sugar bacon while he got the chicken sausage. Love the sweetness and crunch of my bacon! All the food was finished and we were all so full! Very satisfying meal! We were fueled up and ready for a day of walking. I discovered that this is one of many locations.

The food is great. The restaurant is on a corner, so on days when the weather is warm, the doors/windows are open with tables near the street. There's a gluten free menu - hallelujah! Service is excellent. The reason for only three stars is that both of us who ate there recently got glutened. Not sure what happened since we ordered off the GF menu. Perhaps there was a mix-up.

Excellent place. Have stopped by numerous times at the Northwestern Hospital location for coffee, but this time came for lunch. Nice decor, friendly staff. The food was incredible. I had the Supernatural Salad which was out of this world - healthy and tasty, perfectly made and dressed. Steak on the side was good. Contemporary menu with vegan and gluten-free options. I'm a fan!

Getting business done here and even chatting with friends. The atmosphere is friendly for every occasion! They have this really interesting muffin that shared the texture of bread. Ask them for the best selling pastry! I also had the bacon-manchego croissant and it was delicious and filling! The coffee was not the best one, but it is still a perfect combo in Chicago.

This is the healthy evolution of all the delicious foods you've grown to love. I've eaten at Beatrix for both brunch and dinner. Each experience was incredible. The food is both delicious and healthy. At the end of your meal (provided you get an appitizer), you'll feel full but not like you need a nap.

We went there on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. We had made a reservation but there were last minute additions and the hostess was kind enough to help us get more seats. Our server (Jackie B) was wonderful. She was helping us choose the drinks, the appetizers and the main course too. The fries are good to share and also very tasty. The prime burger is really delicious. The burnt honey chicken is also good but not as good as the burgers. The portions are big enough for the prices. The place is cozy and comfortable enough to have conversations. I really enjoyed my time there and would definitely recommend it. Ask for Jackie, she will take care of you.

I've stopped by twice for dessert, because the caramel pie is a delight. Thickly, custardy, strong caramel, but not cloying... perfectly balanced and complemented well by the house-mad vanilla cream on the side. The bartenders have been kind, friendly, and generous with their pours.

An easy, delicious and healthy option for dinner downtown. My family frequents Beatrix for breakfast, brunch, lunch , dinners, and drinks. It doesn't have too long of a menu, which makes it easy to chose from. However, the selections they do have are always healthy, easy on the stomach, and varied. They take a unique approach to their dishes - ex: Neatloaf (turkey and sweet potato) or their Quinoa Burgers (MUST TRY - not available during dinner). Their Crispy Kale Salad was one of my favorite salads in the city; however, they recently removed it from the menu. Hopefully, it'll make a return...! The service creates nothing to complain about. Their drinks - alcoholic and non are unique and tasty. THEIR DESSERT: must try the Oh my! Carmel Pie. Be warned, it's very decadent but delicious. They also have a lot of pastry dessert and snack items in their bakery/cafe area up front.. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is the constant wait time it requires. Even with reservations, I find that I have to wait around to be seated. However, this does indicate their popularity!

Don't miss the skirt steak with chimichuri or the fabulous short rib with a mild chili-citrus glaze. They have a wonderful gluten-free menu with many of the same dishes, too, and a careful kitchen.

I've only ever come here for dinner, but my meal has been nothing but spectacular. I've tried both the short rib and the chili salmon - both are well seasoned and filling, though between the two the short rib was definitely my favorite. Happy hour wine specials are also a great deal. Service is always friendly and attentive.

Went here for brunch on a Sunday with friends from out of town. I would recommend making a reservation, as this place gets pretty crowded and you may have to wait up to an hour (but it’s worth it). We wound up snatching 3 spots at the bar. I had the traditional breakfast and a bloody mary - highly recommend! My friend had the breakfast enchiladas which looked phenomenal! The whole menu was great! They also have a great baked goods section if you’re on the go- the angel food cake is fantastic! I will definitely go back!

Nice food + reasonable price!!! I came for brunch in a weekend and this place was fully packed at 9:30am. I had the egg & pork sandwich, a side of sausage, and blueberry juice. The pork sandwich was tasty and huge, I feel like it can feed two people! The juice was refreshing as they blended with different berries. However, I did not enjoy the sausage because it didn't taste good and didn't look appealing to me. Lastly, the ambience was chill and relaxing. Definitely recommended!

One of the more impressive stops on our trip. Food was good but wait for table long especially when there were plenty of tables open just reserved by OpenTable. Hip crowd. Good soundtrack. Cutest patio! Perfect spot to sit outside and enjoy the good weather for brunch or lunch. The crab Benedict was to die for. It's hard to find one where you can actually taste the crab without the Holland side drowning it out. Blueberry muffin was fresh and packed with blueberries. Love this place! Cool vibe, comfortable ambiance, eclectic music, good food, attentive staff. It’s got a loft feel to it, with lots of warm woods, exposed ceiling, and metal fixtures. I’m not one for a menu that goes on for days, and what I’ve had (pot roast sandwich, prime burger) from their one-pager has been delicious! Might be best to make a reservation for busy times, but I’ve bellied up to the bar both lunchtimes I’ve visited and been perfectly comfortable. If you have to grab-and-go, they have a market with salad bar and other quick meals, as well as a coffee bar with pastries. Definitely recommend!

The staff, as always, is super helpful, friendly and without any pretense whatsoever. The food, however, has dropped off in a big way. While our meal was by no means "bad", Beatrix had established itself as a destination restaurant. While we went on a Sunday, the old cliche that Sundays aren't for serious diners should not be applicable to ellie restaurants. Our meal was typical of what you might expect in a quality hotel. Not a slam but hardly high praise in a city as rich in eating establishments as Chicago.

The coffee and espresso we're a little weak for our taste, BUT the food was incredible and the service was excellent!! We intended to start off with the chia pudding as an appetizer, but all of our food came out at once. We weren't mad about this! That chia pudding was amazing and the side of avocado toast was brilliant!! I would add an egg on top and make it a whole meal next time. The cauliflower grits were delicious and the eggs your way with chicken sausage was yet another delicious dish. I would absolutely come back here and am so glad I found this on Yelp! I went here during an interview. It was busy, but our server stayed attentive throughout our meal and was thoughtful with her suggestions. Our food was excellent - I got the housemade ricotta ravioli with butternut squash, which was amazing. I was never a fan of butternut squash before, but after eating this dish in which the various flavors and textures complemented each other so perfectly, I am. This delicious dish is a must have, definitely one of my favorites.

Restaurant Critique: This is a busy popular spot bouncing with good food and suburb customer service. While waiting a short time (15 min)for our table I tried the “magical cookie” form their fresh bakery section. DEEEEEEEEELICIOUS! Once I allowed a taste test to my friends, they picked up a few for themselves after we ate. The food was fantastic! They put healthy, yet tasteful spins on traditional meals. There were so many great choices to choose from. We had the steak chimichurri and eggs as well as the avocado benedict. There’s only word I can think of to describe the experience. SENSATIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SPOT IS ON OUR LIST TO RETURN!

Wonderful place for breakfast. Beautiful healthy and delicious choices. It was hard to pick just one thing to have. Was definitely drawn to the avocado benedict but ended up having the lovely lemon pancakes. They were souffle style. Light and fluffy and custardy inside. This was a really good place to have brunch. The menu is small and most of the dishes are a twist on the traditional, but in a good way. The pot roast and egg sandwich was a really interesting take on the standard breakfast sandwich options. Their coffee (the drip stuff) was really great. I didn't try any of the espresso drinks, but I imagine they are of similar quality. Unfortunately, the service wasn't super fast so I wasn't able to give 5 stars.

Generally Beatrix is a great place to have a meal, but today was disappointing. 1. My Turkey burger was ridiculously salty. 2. Our fries were cold and when they brought back hot ones, they were overcooked. 3. The coffee was bitter. 4. Our server was out of it. Not very attentive, brought us the wrong check and just seemed "off." Almost like maybe he was high or something. The kale almond salad and blueberry muffin were really tasty though.

There is a restaurant, take away counter food, bar and coffee bar that you can choose from. The coffee bar has a number of different specialities that is unique to the restaurant. Only went to the coffee bar and unfortunately as it was busy the place was not well cleaned and the sofa had crumbs on it and eaten food packaging and paper bags tossed on the side of the sofa.

Attended a catered event here- multiple high top tables in a curtained-off section of the restaurant made for great mingling and socializing. In terms of food, there was a spread of various hot and cold offerings (the chicken meatballs had a nice kick to them) as well as small bites that were circulated throughout the night, including ravioli and braised chicken. Yummy food and fun atmosphere. It was a bit loud though. We had a baby stroller with us and they put us in a corner that made getting in and out for us and the people next to us very difficult. Otherwise a good place to eat

Stopping in The Aloft on North Clark Street makes it too tempting to use this place for breakfast every morning. That's what we've done so far! Wonderfully designed environment, with internal and external seating that merges and blends. Varied menu without being overwhelming. My coffee of choice is a Honey Cinnamon latte (from someone who detests latte it must be good). Brunch, lunch and dinner are also offered. The place never seems not busy so I'd recommend booking if you aren't here first thing. Very family friendly, lots of babies and small children seemingly catered for without much fuss. Great service from the very friendly staff too. Well worth trying in my opinion.

Overall, an awesome experience here. This was our last stop before we left Chicago. The chimichurri steak and eggs was excellent. Good vibes at this restaurant too. Sat down extremely quickly even though it was busy. I am glad we chose this as our last place to eat. When we come back, Beatrix will be our first stop.

Superb brunch! Start with champagne and a Bloody Mary. Had the quinoa cakes, chia pudding, and braised pot roast sandwich. All really delicious.

Complete disaster. Showed up for brunch with 10:30 AM rez. Place was a zoo. Waz sat at a high top where ppl waiting just thought it was OK to use our table as a drink rest. Children played in the revolving doors while parents waited for tables. Rage quit and went to Grand Lux on Michigan Ave instead.

Ordered the iced banana joe coffee and it's mostly ice. I had two big sips and it was gone. The tuna seven chili ceviche was actually bland and small. The beet salad was okay, small. The chili chocolate glaze Salmon usually comes with tortillas. I'm not sure why this comes with tortillas. I substituted the tortillas with a salad. The size of the salmon I got looked a lot smaller than I saw in uploaded pics online. The salmon dish was okay but for $27 the portion size was a joke. Didn't get any bakery items as I saw numerous fruit flies on the items. I had a $70 bill and I was still hungry. Went over to Doc B's to eat right after this and had a wonderful kale salad with tofu and a lime agave dressing for a reasonable price.

Honestly, this place is beautiful. The interior and the decor is really pretty I loved being here. I came here for lunch where I wasn’t feeling a salad like normally I went for the prime burger. Generally I like it “medium well” more so medium then well is what I told our server, she expressed understanding when the burger came it was well done, with a little side of ketchup but no mayonnaise or mustard it was dry with a slice of tomato. For the price it really should have come with some topping, I feel that some sauces would’ve made it a better burger but it was so dry since it was undercooked. Because I was with a group I don’t like to complain and be dramatic so I stayed quiet but this place is a 30 second walk from my job and I would hate not to come back. I did have a delicious Pineapple and ginger juice which I loved and will come back for that. But as for the burger it was disappointing. Service was excellent as well.

My wife and I ate breakfast there 3 mornings in a row. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere, though professionals were the main clientele, was relaxed and attentive. Even when a rude man came in from and decided to ask the whole restaurant "If any one was working?" after waiting for a mere 20 seconds, they simply smiled and sat him. Very professional and polite service. Loved it!
