The Hoot Owl is a quaint small very busy local nook with the usual breakfast and lunch fare. Good basic items, reasonably priced. And the crew is genuinely kind and attentive to your needs. It's always crazy busy, so don't be in a hurry. If you are looking for fluffy tofu and soy, keep driving. These guys are meat and potato types. No espresso but great chili and eggs! A favorite of ours here in sandpoint.

Hands down the greatest breakfast place I've ever been to. There are plenty of good eateries out there but the Hoot Owl consistently has the best food going through the entire menu which I have done. So.e places have one famous dish. Hoot owl has practically all of them. Very cozy with amazing biscuits and gravy. Their eggs are always cooked right. Chicken fried steak tastes fresh. Redneck Benedict is a great dish too

Probably one of the best places to get lunch in town. Everything on the menu is great, but ignore the menu, and get what they have on special. It's often not on the menu, and the best thing you'll eat all week.

Caught my eye as I was driving past, turned around and came on a whim, looked busy and homely. Great service, flavors, and atmosphere. Sizable portions, unusually great value. Witty menu in a good way. I live in western Washington but if I am ever within 50 miles of this place again I will pay it a visit.

We read the reviews and checked out the menu online; I will definitely be back!! Staff was friendly, prices were reasonable, portions were large and the quality of food was great! I had the loaded hash browns with side of biscuits and gravy. They were the light fluffy cake pan style of biscuits. I prefer the round style but I was very happy overall. The staff kept up on our coffee and gave us a warm up several times too.

Quite possibly the best breakfast west of the Rockies. No frills good old fashioned food in a charming rustic atmosphere. The country fried steak breakfast comes on 3 plates. Come hungry. Plenty of vegan and gluten free options as well.

The biscuits and gravy, pancakes, hash browns, and corned beef hash were the best we have ever been had. You will not go away hungry. You will leave with a full belly and happy heart. Find better food while they're open, you won't, for the price, in the entire Sandpoint greater area (Dover, Sandpoint, Ponderay, & Kootenai). Time it right and you won't have to wait in line. This is where the locals go for breakfast & lunch till 3pm. This place is all about Idaho home town cooking. You better like potatoes, generous portions, come hungry, leave a good tip, and let the next party enjoy your experience!

Decided to try after seeing the excellent reviews. When we pulled up, we had 2nd thoughts. It looked to be small & a little run down from the outside. So glad we proceeded to go inside. Omg, the breakfast was so so good. We had chicken fried steak with sausage, eggs & pancakes. Everything was so flavorful. The portion sizes were huge. I'd give a 6 star if I could!

The Hoot Owl is a landmark restaurant. Not only do they have the best biggest chicken fried steak in the county, they serve generous portions of hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and to die for cinnamon rolls. They keep your coffee cup filled Pronto and make sure you don't leave hungry. Then they also host a soup kitchen after hours 4-7pm on Monday nights. They also host a free Thanksgiving dinner from 2-6pm.

By far the greatest little joint you will ever encounter, small on the outside but spacious in, you'll find the hospitality to that of family and my oh my the menu is something to behold with portion sizes rivalling southern dining. Despite always being packed you'll have no trouble getting seating and serviced right away. Wish this amazing place was closer to home I wouldnt leave.

This was our go to breakfast place when we lived in Sandpoint. Went back this summer and it was still as good as we remembered. Love the servers. They are polite, efficient, and ain't got time for your sass. The sandwiches are all good, and chicken fried steak is a favorite.
