REVIEWS OF Paia Bay Coffee & Bar IN Hawaii

Paige Van Wie

This place would’ve been 5 stars for me up until the experience I’ve had with an online order. Visited back in early April and loved the coffee so much I decided to order 2 bags of coffee beans through the online shop. Fast forward 3 weeks, still no beans. Placed a handful of calls to the shop and was promised a call back...still no call.

This place is a diamond in the rough. It’s a bit hidden so take the time to find it. The food and coffee were great but it’s the atmosphere and place itself that make it a must visit.

Jon Brown

PBC has been my favorite cafe to hang out at for _years_, dating back to their old location. It's grown so much, but stayed friendly and comfortable. A bigger menu, longer hours, more everything that makes it awesome. The coffee and food are good, but my favorite thing is the addition of chill live music. Go, relax, enjoy...

Betsy Palmer

Funky & hip, fab shabby-chic outdoor garden setting. Music, movies, games! Happy hour cocktails were Very good. Tried fish & veg taco & would order them again. Mediterranean platter was enormous! Hummus was so fresh! We really enjoyed the visit

Ashley-Mae Fuhr

Cute little breakfast, lunch and coffee shop tucked down a driveway. Their grill was out of order when we arrived but they were still making drinks. I wasn't used to using a coffee dispenser in this setting as it doesn't seem to be suited for the atmosphere they had created, but I would definitely be interested to come back to try their food. The shop was spacious and filled with many tropical plants, succulents and cacti, as there is no roof the allowed little birds to add to the cuteness of this place! Also some really neat art featured on the walls. Staff were friendly and quick to make a fresh pot of coffee when the dispenser ran out.

Melissa Hansen

I loved this cafe! They've created a perfectly peaceful patio setting that is just wonderful to spend time in. You can't even hear the road noise, which I have no idea how they managed since they're right off the main drag. Coffee was great, staff was super friendly.

Sam Singh

Best local coffee I had

Casey Barnes

Great food. Good vibes. Nice patio / lanai with live music from 5-8 pm. Lots of nice locals and excellent coffee.

Martin Tatar

Favorite coffee shop on Maui

Raik Knieknecht

cozy place behind the main road. a must be for coffee lovers.

Sabrina Bence

Took my son on Mother's Day and he loved it so much! He got an everything bagel with cream cheese and tomatoes, ate 2 orders of bacon an order of avocados and absolutely loved the fresh hand squeezed lemonaide. After we got home he turned and said "Mommy next weekend can we go there again? I really like it because its like a secret hide away with food and its so fancy!" Of course I said yes! Love the food and the atmosphere!!

Shaunas Adventures

Went to enjoy the love music, but it was not that good. The hot chocolate I ordered was also pretty sub par, until I did some pretty big doctoring up and then it was pretty good. At least they have some options for improving your coffee and hot chocolate.

Cobi Yu

Awesome place to chill with a drink and listen to live music

Shriharsh Tendulkar

Cute little place. Fantastic ambiance. Wish we could have spent more time here!

Mimi Sakarett

Fantastic spot for happy hour, espresso drinks, evening entertainment. This cafe has it all! I went for a DJ set and comedy night. I had a cheap happy hour beer in a lovely environment. Definitely check this spot out next time you're in town!!

Mike Moore

Great tuna and grilled banana bread! Wonderful staff!!

Kristine Du

Conveniently located next door to where we stayed at the Nalu Kai Lodge, this place was perfect for a quick and delicious breakfast and coffee/tea before we headed out for the day. It was like relaxing in your backyard patio, definitely a hip spot for locals and they played an awesome mix of chill r&b/hip-hop. The açai bowl with berries was excellent - wish I could have it every morning!

Jeanne McGee

Lovely little surprise to find. Nice courtyard and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a cuppa Joe.

Ben Boivin

This was our first stop on the Road to Hana. After the first bite, we no longer found purpose in the rest of the trip. The Turkey Bagel was an enlightening enough experience that the waterfalls, valleys, bamboo forest, and Hana itself just seemed insignificant. And after the Turkey Bagel sent my tastebuds on a sacred journey, I concluded that I got what I came for on this road. The atmosphere is dope. The coffee is dank. The people are chill. Definitely worth the stop.

Charles

Good food, lovely place, great staff giving you big smile :)

Amanda Brummitt

So good that we stopped in twice! Brie and apple sandwich is delish. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options.

Bill Brown

Great little place , coffee, drinks , food . Great people !

Dylan Jones

Good food, but SPENDY! I also wish they had more whole-food, plant based options.

JimmyC

What an amazing hidden little gem! Highly recommend for a roll out of bed breakfast spot. Chocolate chip banana bread to die for. Great service and great food.

We accidentally stumbled upon this coffee shop on our way back from Hana. The coffee was great and the live entertainment awesome!

Jose Zavala

The atmosphere is relaxing and the food is tasty. The employees are friendly and helpful and they give you suggestions on what you should get. Definitely recommend it!

LaMinaMala

good coffee, drinks & nice relaxed atmosphere

John Adcock

Cool and quiet just feet away from the tourist bustle in Paia

Scott Ores

They food is fresh, the price is a little high and the portions are kinda small.

Natalie Gonder

Came to paia bay coffee after a long hike and got here just in time for happy hour (4-8pm). Score! They had great live music, the crowd seems to be mixed of all ages but more importantly, everyone is having fun! The customers and staff are all dancing and clapping

Oscar Saha

Really good coffee and such a nice environment to have your morning coffee.

Mike Graglia

The food was exceptionally good. The wait was exceptionally long I know those things normally go together but the wait was really really long. The place is perfect you definitely knew you were in Hawaii even though you were in an enclosed Courtyard.

Damian Warszawski

Great little spot off the main road in Paia. Cocktails, great food and coffee. Staff are amazing

Naiyin

Love those surfboads

Alexandria Chayka

Joyce Hui

Outdoor patio with good vibes. Great place to relax and grab a drink. We lucked out with live jazz.

Blu Berriez

Cool coffee place

Stan Chuprin

Wow, outstanding breakfast. We had eggs and the salmon bagel, both were excellent. Espresso drinks were

Lone Moon

Omg, Bacon Bagel Sandwich with everything is so good! I didn't know bagel sandwiches can taste so good!

Anita Law

I was excited to check out this place, but the staff wasn't too friendly when I got there. Ended up leaving. But nice seating area and decor.

Fabian J

Ambience is great. Service very friendly and attentive. Pricey for what it is. 3 slices of avocados = $2 extra. Salmon bagel was okay. The egg dishes also just okay. Single use plastic cups for water and cold brew. Paper straw almost feels silly in light of that. Wish they were more eco friendly. UPDATE: upgraded to 4 stars as cups are actually sustainable! Thanks for clarifying! Good job!

Pravin Prakash

This place is beautiful! It's kinda hidden from the highway, except for all the signs pointing to it (they need business after all). We got drip coffee, which tbh, wasn't great, but next time I'm in Maui, I'd love to go again and check out some of their breakfast items. The egg plate that someone else was getting looked yummy. Also, looks like a sweet place to read a book and chill.

Collin Manor

Tucked away in Paia is an amazing place to grab coffee and a quick breakfast. It's just off of the main road, but hidden enough to find peace with it's terrific ambiance. The banana bread is fantastic. Aloha

Chris Martin

This is a great coffee shop with a nice outdoor vibe. If you are a coffee purest looking for an espresso or a cold brew on the beginning of the road to Hana or just passing through check this place out.

Gokhan Topalhan

Very cute little place with many healthy and delicious choices.

Carina Boo

Delicious brunch food and sandwiches! Nice seating outside. Very friendly service. Their banana bread was super delicious!

Lupe Arellano

Staff is friendly, helpful and patient. The food, coffee and dessert DELICIOUS!!!!! A MUST STOP ON YOUR WAY IN AND/OR out of Paia, HI.

Dale Doback

Love this place! Favorite coffee shop by far with great açaí bowls and sandwiches

Tim Messerschmidt

A relaxed backyard cafe with fantastic coffee and very reasonable prices. I'd definitely come back here!

Jibu Idicula

Great breakfast spot to start your day. Banana bread and bagel sandwiches were excellent! Good iced coffee also

Jamie Lemay

We really loved this place, unique location and great coffee. Looks like they have live acts on the weekends too.

Lorna Kellogg

Love this little hole in the wall place, delicious food and great coffee, sweet outdoor patio, mostly covered

Christina Walko

Amazing food!! Best bloody Mary I've ever had! ❤️

Katie Call

Small chill outdoor cafe in a hidden spot down a side alley/street. Great beverages, including alcohol, along with food & pastries.

Jeanmarie Boben

Very cute vibe that’s down a little path. Hidden gem. Nitro coffee on tap. Organic eggs and the sort.

Nicki Loder

Beautiful covered outdoor area. Went for coffee one morning and did dinner and drinks another. Vegetarian and vegan friendly!

Kim Genereux

Could spend hours and hours here...love this place!

Lauren Nottage Hogan

Cute little shady courtyard in Paia. Happy hour can be fun with local live music. Love their curry with an extra scoop of rice. Island style.

Stacey Balter

Such a cute coffee shop, with a shaded outdoor area - nicely decorated and a great place to hang out. It has board games too! The Peaberry pour over is yummy - I took a bag of the beans home to California with me.

Emily K

They make a delicious chai and beautiful dog friendly outdoor seating.

Megan Shaw

Food was amazing... and made even better by the open, laid back atmosphere. A perfect stop on the road to Hana.

Caroline Muller

this is such a cool place!!! great drinks and such a cool atmosphere. everything was reasonably priced and the staff was very chill. get a mule

Barbara Brehm

Great coffee hideaway with a beautiful backyard atmosphere. It's hidden behind the bikini shop, but definitely worthwhile to be checked out. Great salads and breakfast too.

Magdalena Bienczyk

Great vibe, friendly people, excellent music, beautiful courtyard!

Jeff Mayer

Funky, local, open-air place. The coffee was fresh and flavorful. I had the eggs with avocado salad, my wife had the acai bowl - both made with fresh, local ingredients. Look for it!

Clyde Rasmussen

Idyllic outdoor tropical patio setting. Magical in the evenings, coffee shop by day.

Brandon Glover

This place is a little hip for my liking but that's what you're going to get in little Paia town. Good sandwiches and coffee, good service but they can get a little overwhelmed when it's busy. A nice little stop

Kayla Szampruch

This place has a vegan drink on the menu with both coconut and macadamia milk, but the coconut milk made the entire drink taste on the sour side. The barista had already given me a little attitude, so I didn't feel comfortable saying I didn't like my drink. If you're looking to get a dairy free drink, stick with only macadamia milk is my recommendation.

Emma Cabrera

lovely hidden spot with excellent dinner options and great cocktails

Kim Kaliko

I loved going here the fresh Ahi poke was amazing I highly recommend it I give that 5stars alone. We also had the lilikoi Italian soda was very refreshing. It is I'm a nice location right in Paia town but hidden away from all the traffic and people love it here!

Adam Sebesta

Coffee was very good so were the bagels. Little pricey for what you get but very tasty. Good pit stop before driving to Hana.

ricardo ibarra-rivera

Really cool little spot, laid back vibe a very memorable place to visit when on the island

Lucie Schulz

Cute little coffee shop serving baked goods, sandwiches, and salads. We really enjoyed the shaded patio which felt like a little oasis on a hot and humid day. The shop is a bit hidden and we found it by accident while shopping in the connected swimsuit store facing the street. Would have given 5 stars but their espresso was unfortunately broken.

Tim Mason

Cute little spot set back from the street with great coffee and drinks. Sometimes even live music too

Nick Stowell

Grate hole in the wall. Coffie food and entertainment

Amy Neurauter

Best Happy Hour in Paia! Live music in an intimate setting. I plan on hanging out here with friends again soon. Thanks for the great time Paia Bay Coffee!

Tianna Moore

Really cool place to check out

Dreamer Vlogz

Incredible gorgeous environment! Great food and great people! I 100% recommend. It's a great place to have a bit of food and sit down with friends or do work. It's a very naturous environment!!

Robert Sanchez

This is a beautiful hidden gem. Off the main road but worth coming to. Awesome vibe, good food and great coffee.

Ami Diemer

My husband and I happened across this hidden gem while staying in Paia and we went back at least 5 other times during our short visit! Access through a swim wear store or around back of the shops, they have amazing breakfasts and drinks in an adorable oasis. My husband got the goat cheese and eggs a couple times and I had a great acai bowl. We returned in the evening once for some live local music and beers. We cannot wait to go back!

victoria johnson

Great coffee and breakfast bites on the way to Hana. Definitely a great place to start the journey as not a lot is open in Paia early (at 8 am) and it is close to the first stop at twin falls.

E. Fuentes

Worse chai I've had. Reviews make it seem like a great place but it's not.

Corrin Vecchitto

The coffee is superb, the community friendly, and the food delightful. This is the perfect place to come catch up, work, meet new people, or just enjoy some time alone. It is partly outside making the energy and space open and flowing.

brooke mahnken

Great breakfast, good cocktails, fun style/ambiance

Kristina Lim

I came to this coffee shop after reading reviews of having great coffee and atmosphere, however when I went to order coffee, and asking the server about the “peaberry coffee bean”, she was clueless and rude about describing the coffee bean. She kept calling it, “a fancier coffee bean that only people who are really into coffee would be into.” She was very short with me when I only was just curious about learning more about this type of coffee bean. The customer service here was not great here.

Nana C

The physical place itself was very inviting, but staff were rude. Latte was not good - ended up throwing out the drink after a few sips. Tried my friend’s coffee as well and it tasted like it was watered down.

Amaan Mehrabian

A hidden gem... Fantastic ambience... Great food... Great service... Must try!

Josh Helminski

Great ambience and really tasty coffee.

Devan Backstrom

Awesome place, a little tricky to find at first (not on the Main Street). Food, atmosphere and staff are all amazing!

Johann Koeh

Great little place to avoid the busting heat of Paia heat and crowd

jdking39

Perfect little bohemian style coffee stop, great atmosphere and vibe. Excellent breakfast food and coffee.

Mousumi P

Egg Benedict was awesome . I liked the combination with salad . Coffee was top class . I asked for the name and it's called maui oma. I bough this coffee for home and it's very good

Benji Fox

Indoor-outdoor hidden ccoffee shop / restaurant. Coffee, Chai, Food, Chill vibes, occasional live music.

Shivani Sourindre

The food is great, the staff is great, the music is great!! Came here 4 times in one week. Favorite place in Maui!!

Kyle Mansfield

Tucked behind a line if storefronts through a little alley is one of our favorite breakfast places in all of Maui. Paia Bay Coffee is an absolutely gorgeous little coffee bar with great coffee and a surprisingly diverse number of options for breakfast. The brie and bacon croissant felt like it was overflowing with cheese and bacon and avocado and perfectly crisp, and the eggs and salad were wonderful and refreshing. The chocolate chip banana bread they served was incredible and rivaled anything we had on the Road to Hana. It's just a short walk away from the Paia public parking lot, but it can be hit or miss on availability. Street parking is available up and down the main drag through Paia and then up the perpendicular main road. That said, it's absolutely worth hunting for parking to find this gem of a morning stopover either during your stay in the area or on your way to Hana.

brent Hurst Keala Kekua

Excellent environment, great staff, good food and beverages!

Carolyn Miller

Had great food and conversations!!

Kelly

Atmosphere was awesome here. Super hippie if you are into that. Open restaurant with no roof and green. Setup was definitely very neat. Food and coffee was pretty good as well although it seems that it might be dependent on the staff of the day. First day we came it was very good. Second day wasn't as good (bagel had only a small smear of cream cheese) and the waitresses were making errors. Would definitely come back though

divya patel

If you're starting your trip on the Road to Hana, this is a great stop. They are open early, have a nice selection of sandwiches that you can grab to go. We were there in the morning, but they had signs got Aloha hour, which is nice. It's a nice little spot, to relax. Loved their goat cheese, tapenade sandwich.

M Sun Kim

We visited Maui to celebrate my Dad's birthday. We researched brunch place and we thought Paia coffee would be a good fit. However, the service was horrible. The server was not at all pleased by our presence. She talked very condescending manner all the time and rude. She literally threw the dishes we ordered. I already paid the 15% tip in advance since here you pay it first. I wanted to ask a refund of the tip (but I didn't). My Mom said 'we shouldn't have come here.' When you go to this place, please don't pay the tip in advance.

Humberto G

Would highly recommend this place to everyone. The patio is beautiful and the food is fresh.

Camilo Bedon-Squibb

Great atmosphere and really good cocktails.

Marc Hnytka

The coffee was amazing. The food was delicious. The live music and drinks were top notch. We found this place by accident but liked it so much we came back the next day. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. A+

In A Nutshell: -Paia Bay Coffee & Bar is tucked away behind the busy Hana Highway. -Once you enter, you'll feel like you're in one of your bohemian friend's backyard patio. -The decor is woody-natural chic w/ a flair of upcycling. -You obviously need to order a coffee & I also recommend grabbing one of their scrambled egg breakfast meals. -The ambiance is friendly & open layout w/ a tropical feel. Overall, this is great place to start your day on Maui.

Lauren Claire

Literally would have eaten every meal here each day in Maui if I were closer!! Food is so good and it’s such a cool spot!! Love this place!!

Igor Uzhviev

This place is really awesome! The best cafe on Maui! The food is delicious, the interior is fantastic, the atmosphere is warm and cosy.

Jim Famulare

Friendly place with good menu.

Clare Pfeifer

Gorgeous cafe with so many plants! I stopped for breakfast and absolutely loved my latte and acai bowl (I recommend getting it with the honey and lilikoi)!

Heather Burch

Amazingly cute coffee bar with good banana bread and chai lattes!

w strong

Great spot for coffee. We had iced Americanos and added cream, simple syrup, cinnamon and agave - was delicious and cooled us down.

RL Jones

Great to get a coffee here. Not great if you have a laptop or phone that needs to be charged because there are no outlets. Seating is in an outdoor patio. Very comfortable experience and a great place to relax.

Sarah Lutman

Best bagel I've ever had, get it fully loaded

Taylor Merck Kattukaran

Great local spot for a quick breakfast and good coffee! Coconut latte and smoked salmon plate were delicious.

Robert Olejniczak

Nice location, yummy bagels and great coffee

Balazs Kocsis

Great breakfast and 5* espresso!!

Jessica Lynch

Great stop for delicious and simple al fresco dining! I got the bacon and brie croissant and my boyfriend got the smoked salmon bagel, and we shared a slice of grilled banana bread. All were simple but fantastically done. The outdoor dining area had plenty of shade and lush greenery. There is no parking lot so you'll need to find street parking or park in a nearby lot. Overall, is highly recommend!

Andrew Behner

Was pretty dope. Saw Ben Folds there. Fan boyed to hard to get a pic

Keith Ryan

Such a cool little back alley coffee shop! Loved the open air seating. Great coffee and food with super friendly service. Ordered the Acai-bowl and a macchiato and did not disappoint. Perfect pre-Hana stop!

Niki Foster

I go for music and happy hour prices on the weekend. Great musicians and good prices on food and drinks. Super cool tropical outdoor vibe, and the staff is friendly and remembers me each time. I’ve been in love with the watermelon salad; so fresh and light, but also fills me up. I also get the huckleberry drink on happy hour special. It comes with a fresh sage leaf and a blackberry, it’s so fancy, I feel like I should have spent twice as much, haha! All in all, I always have fun and enjoy the food/drinks!

Dean Benton

Great little coffee place. And I don't even like coffee. LOL great food for breakfast

Nick Harris

Best cafe setting ever: outdoors, tropical plants, locals. Coffee is legit, happy hour at 4, an essential visit multiple times per day.

Jennifer Mack

Had the eegs and goat cheese breakfast (with scrambled eggs, I got the plain bagel) and the coconut cream soda. Everything was delicious! Cool place to have a quiet breakfast. The place is easy to miss, so keep an eye out for it.

Karen Wong

Cute coffee shop hidden behind a clothing store or accessible along a side alley. The menu has relatively simple items like avocados, eggs with bread etc but all are well done. I ordered the paia bowl (acai bowl with granola, papaya and coconut shavings) - it was the best acai bowl I had in Maui. Very large portion for the acai bowl and the ingredients are fresh. Highly recommended. Coffee is more expensive however.

Sally Bitar

Delicious iced coffee and great ambience! came here right as it opened, and was pleasantly surprised. The staff is also super great and really friendly.

Amir Ehsaei

Great coffees and other breakfast items. Even if you are passing thru, you should stop by and check it out.

Ben H

Nitro cold brew.. Smooth

Mason Patrick

Overpriced. Drink wasn't anything special. They were out of a lot of food options. Came back after taking my order and said they were out of what I ordered. Brought me something else, didn't refund difference in cost.

Andrew Lankston

Best place my fiance and I have ate at in Maui. They have great service and amazing cold brew coffee. Definitely make the stop in here.

bbaboo U

Great little place for breakfast. Tucked away behind a beach shop. People were pleasant, food was tasty.

Vitali Stolpner

Fantastic coffee shop. It's a little hard to find as it's a little off the main road, behind another building. But looking for it is definitely worth it. Has a great atmosphere with the main eating area being in the open with lots of greenery. The food was great and staff were awesome. We will definitely come back here next time we're on our way to Hana!

Christine Nicole

This is the cutest little coffee shop!! I wish I lived in HI, i would go every day! The coffee is great and the food is fresh. Live music was awesome, and they sang happy birthday to me! Everything is intimate and personal. Real chill place!

Ben Toll

Great food, coffee, vibes, and garden seating. I was here for a quick visit, and will be back!

Rose Bernard

We planned to stop here as we began The Road to Hana, and so happy that we did. The food was beautiful and clean and fresh, and very tasty - and the coffee was the best coffee we've had in America (Australian coffee snobs over here). The setting was stunning too.

Hannah Jurkiewicz

About a year ago my family went to this eatery, and I still think about the vegan bagel and overall atmosphere. While we did have an issue with a long wait for just some scrambled eggs, groups that ordered after us had been served, the food was delicious. I loved the open natural atmosphere.

Adam Lasser

Great outdoor setting, fresh food, kind staff. Check this spot out for a relaxed meal.
