The Rack of Lamb was great!! Service was not the best, a newer server was unable to get someone to address a question. Afterwhile server informed meal was coming out in five minutes, although it was 30. We were actually preparing to leave when our order arrived. Again food & drink was great!

Didn’t have a bad experience but didn’t have a good one either. For the pricing the service needs to be improved. Had an issue with a drink and went to the bar. The bartender was rude and dismissive. Our waiter wasn’t welcoming or helpful. Not bad, just didn’t seem to care. For the price I had hoped for a nice experience with my fiancé to celebrate, but instead we left not sure if we would come back.

My family has come here to eat time and time again. We’ve had birthday parties and wedding receptions here and each and every time my family is highly satisfied and never disappointed. My mom has a SEVERE egg allergy and the staff always makes sure she is well taken care of and it truly helps to know that you have such kind and caring staff that knows exactly what they’re doing. And the food is PHENOMENAL!!! Always always always love the food that they serve. The calamari, bruschetta, wood-fired wings, sweet potato fries, grilled cheese on brioche, mussels, braised beef short ribs and many other food options are absolutely delightful. I will always recommend this restaurant as the best eating establishment on main street.

The food was excellent. I had lunch with a group of 14 individuals. We dined in the back room. They need to control the sound. We could not hear the person next to us. They would not give individual checks or divide the check per diner. At minimum they could have printed half on one check and half on the other check. Will never visit with a large group again because of the noise level and the one check for 14 individuals.

Great food and great service. The homemade pasta is amazing. I eat way too much gelato every time we go because it is that good. My wife really enjoys the wine selection and Sunday brunch too. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Brunch on the front in the sunshine was excellent. i had an omelette which was super tasty with a fresh salad. the coffee was clearly brewed and was so good a second pot was required. Being able to sit out and enjoy the sunshine along with the outstanding meal was a most enjoyable experience. We were not in a hurry and the service was more than adequate. i would recommend the Caffee Gelato as a great place to grab a nice brunch!

Always had amazing food here and great service from the hard working servers. However, I don't like that the main level only has 3 single bathrooms. It is very hard to knock and hear who is in there, so you end up jiggling the handle while someone is in there or waiting til they're done. LOVE how there are gluten free options and vegetarian selections. Overall, I'd come back and reccomend to a friend.

Great night... Goes horribly wrong! Took two close friends and my girlfriend out for her birthday this evening. We go out often and wanted to go to a place that was not in our normal rotation. It was a toss up between Caffe' Gelato and Taverna. I booked reservations for 7:00pm and was promptly seated when we arrived. Our waiter was very professional, personable, and aware. He made recommendations on the food, wine, and dessert and checked in at an appropriate level throughout the evening. The food was perfect and we were all happy with our selections including the after dinner bottle of wine and dessert. Here's where it all goes down hill. Caffe' Gelato is open for Dinner: Mon-Thu 4pm-9:30pm. At 9:00pm, the entire staff starts stacking chairs in our dining room, dragging tables and stacks of chairs to the back of the restaurant. Staff members start rushing back and forth and congregating in our dining area as they completely break down the restaurant... At 9:00pm! I'm not sure where everyone was rushing to go but that's UNACCEPTABLE for a restaurant that aspires to be a premier dining experience. For the price point of this restaurant, I would expect clean-up activities of this magnitude to occur when all patrons are gone and the door is locked - Very disappointed!

Eh, went twice and didn't enjoy either food ordered. Limited menu unless you want wine, then it's two pages of options. I think for the amount they give you, the taste, and then the high price, I can go anywhere else and do better.

We’ve been here before & liked it! Server didn’t have the best attitude but food was good so that was good enough to bring us back! Well, we came back from Milford, DE for a second chance & guess what? Totlal let down, the site / door said they closed at 9:30pm and we showed up at 8:45 just to have some drinks and an app... we were told the kitchen was We own a restaurant so we are VERY familiar with the business.

Service was so slow. Waited over 20 minutes just to be seated. We overheard members of staff arguing and the entire time we were there, just felt cold and like we were unwelcome. We sat for another 20 or so waiting for the server to come back with drinks and place our order. She gets back without our drinks so we asked if we could get our drinks but wanted to place an order and she apologized, asked us to give her a minute to get those drinks and didn't bother coming back for over 5 minutes. We ended up leaving. Gave many chances. We read good reviews but sadly, the experience turned us off to this place and we waited and waited to get nothing and were more hungry then when we got there.

My husband chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, and I am so glad he did! Our meal included wine, appetizers, entree's and dessert. Everything was delicious. Our server went the extra mile for us. After asking for a particular wine, he returned saying that they, unfortunately, were out of it, and he suggested a substitute. I didn't really care for it. When he noticed that I wasn't drinking it, he asked if I liked it. I said "not really" so he suggested a cocktail. He did not charge for the glass of wine. He returned several times during the meal; after he saw that we were eating our appetizers, then a few times during our main meal. As an added bonus, the presentation of my dessert was beautiful; meaning not a "song" but the appearance. Then there was no charge for it, and this was after we had presented a discount postcard we had received in the mail. Everything made for a wonderful experience, and we will definitely return.

Caffe Gelato is a local institution, and a world-famous eatery. It's intimate and cozy, with an upscale atmosphere at small town prices. To be sure, it's not inexpensive, but a meal of similar outstanding quality would set you back far, far more sharply in a larger city. Focused primarily on Italian cuisine (big surprise!), you will find a wide ranging selection of meal choices. Of course, there's also the namesake Gelato! Outstanding house-made gelato and deserts round out your meal in a most satisfactory way!

About a month ago I brought my family and the experience was not what I was use to there. Ryan knew this and he truly stepped up to the plate and he took all the right steps to bring me back. Ryan is a class act! The service from Keith was great! The food was excellent! Our 7 year old daughter attended a kids cooking class while we were eating lunch. Excellent food & service. Pasta was Al dente and filet was perfectly cooked. Our server Jake took great care of us. Will return here again. Update: We returned about a week later and decided to treat our friends to dinner. Our party of 4 had a nice booth seating area. The food was just as good as I had remembered from our first visit. However, we waited so long for our food and then again to be checked on, we ended up adding more money to the parking meter. My husband got up twice during our visit to find service (different server than our first visit). The restaurant wasn't full and there were plenty of wait staff so unsure what the issue was. However, after 2.5 hours of poor service, I don't think we will return.

One of my favorite restaurants in all of Delaware. The best part is that it's in the heart of where I went to high school and college. Just a five minute walk from the University of Delaware campus. The food here, especially the roasted rack of lamb, is mouth watering and amazing. And you have to try their Mango Sunset drink...so damn good. Great ambience, amazing food, professional and courteous staff. Highly recommend

I've come here often times for company meetings and individually (used a groupon). The food is fantastic, and though the price is on the higher end, the ambiance in the restaurant plus the food quality definitely makes it worth it. My favorite go-to are the paninis. Also, I would concur with a couple other reviews: go on a college off-season. It can get crowded on main street when the UD kids are around.

Not worth the price. Had to remind waitstaff of drink order twice(1round of wine/four people), had to ask for water refill.. Ingredients in our dishes are camoflaged behind a wall of fat and cream, my plate had dried tomatoes but their flavor was missing... was it hidden? You just got some shriveled texture. Judging by the other reviews, maybe it was an off day?

The bartender with black glasses really knows how to make amazing original martinis. Love coming here with friends, they have the best bar specials on Main Street especially on fridays. As far as food goes, if you ever see duck on the menu order it. I'm almost never disappointed by anything here. Outstanding service and even better food and drinks

I just recently ate at Caffe Gelato for the first time and I absolutely loved it! Even though the restaurant was busy and crowded, I didn't have to wait long for my food to arrive. I ordered the Tortellini, it had great flavor and the pasta tasted freshly made. For dessert, I had 2 scoops of Mint Chocolate Chip gelato. It was so creamy and refreshing! Our waitress was very nice and refilled our drinks without us asking! Overall, it is a great place to have a super yummy meal. Highly recommend!

Definitely did not meet my expectations. The service has lots of room for improvement. The center cut Filet had no flavor. I would say the food is of the same quality as Lonestar of Outback but triple the price. The only thing that was worth the drive was the Banana split.

I was in for brunch today with some of my family, and it was a wonderful experience. At time of writing, it seemed a section of the restaurant was undergoing renovations, but the atmosphere was still quite nice. The food itself was delicious. I ordered a variation on eggs Benedict that came with sauteed tips of filet mignon, with a side of grilled asparagus. I'm not exaggerating to say that I was shocked at how good everything was, and everyone dining with me seemed to feel much the same way. The service could've been faster, given they weren't especially busy, but I'd say that the free starter of seared scallops with pomegranate and squid ink more than made up for any delays

Ryan German started this gem over 20 years ago, and has never ceases to amaze me. In an industry that has an extremely high rate of both not making a profit and closing within the 1st year, the ever evolving menus, unique flavors of Gelato to go, and his creative ability to take advantage of every money making inch of the property is a true testament to this restaurant, not just in its longevity, but equally as important a seemingly unparalleled level of consistency of both food quality and a very knowledgeable and accommodating service staff.

Each time I've gone to Caffe Gelato, I have never been disappointed. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but their pizza is so delicious! If you are in Newark for a visit and you're craving something that will excite your tastebuds, grab a table at Caffe Gelato. They also have gluten-free and vegetarian options if you have dietary restrictions.

I love this restaurant. I would go every Friday if I could, when they have $5 glasses of wine and delicious discounted small plates. It's the perfect way to wind down after a long work week. The bartender, Keith, is always on point. Very attentive and knowledgeable with remarkable signature cocktails; he even crafted a few of his own recipes and has allowed me to sample them on more than one occasion. The staff is incredibly friendly and always makes me feel welcome. There aren't many restaurants like this in Newark, which is exactly what makes Caffe Gelato so special.

The food was excellent. The service on the other hand has a lot of room for improvement. We went for a holiday party and had the library room all to our selves. I asked for a Blue moon and I got a summer shandy. It is the middle of December, how old is this beer? Not a big deal so I drank the beer. I asked again for a Blue moon and again I got a summer shandy. I drank it again. It wasn't until the third time they finally got it right. After two glasses of wine each the waiter decided to then card everyone at the table. Asked him if he thought it was a little late for that. He said no with a confused look on his face. The worst part of the night for me was when a friend of ours who is Japanese asked for two cokes and the waiter thought it was appropriate to bow to her before getting her drinks. I wanted to take care of it right then and there but she asked me to let it go. So I decided to deal with this way instead.

This place is a little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. It's a great place to take that special college student or special other to celebrate. I had the most tender steak ever (part of a seafood pasta and steak entre called Mare e Monti). Another favorite is the Tenderloin Tip Tortellini. As a side, I highly recommend the Pancetta Roasted Brussels Sprouts. I used to hate brussel sprouts, but this dish has convinced me otherwise.

Went with my wife for a going away dinner. The summer months are best since the college kids and crowded university dwellers aren't around. We were seated immediately and served promptly. If you have to choose, I would go for the charcuterie over the antipasti. Both our meals were delicious, and we are definitely returning. Price point is on the higher end, but it's worth it.

Started with the grilled beet salad, with lightly candied pecans. Red and yellow beets: very nice. Oh: comes in entree and appetizer portions, too. Followed with the sirloin tip tortellini with mushrooms: that... that was delicious! Sadly ate too much of the tasty soft bread to get desert, but what I saw others getting looked really good. Caffe Gelato is close by, beautifully kept, and has REALLY good food. Their gelato is always to die for...I even get it in the winter. Raspberry is the best.

I can’t just write about one experience as I have had many visits to this wonderful restaurant. The owner, Mr. Ryan German, is a well-known and respected individual in our small town of Newark, Delaware. He is so friendly yet one of the hardest workers I know. He and his staff including Casey, Carly, Keith and Gabriel, are always so very friendly and helpful. Their events are so much fun and I look forward to attending them. He does a fantastic job with his menu and wine selections. I have a severe allergy but I never worry about eating at Caffe Gelato. They always take very special care of my requests. This restaurant is also guilty of putting together a wedding reception for my son who serves this country. I only had a two day window but they pulled it off without a hitch. I thank Ryan so much for always taking care of my family outings.
