Great food, great service! Favourite spot to come when I’m in town — a gem!

I really liked this place. :-) It's very small inside and very unique but the wait staff and food make up for any apprehension that you might ever have about it initially. :-) Check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed. :-) I will definitely be back. :-) Keep up the good work guys. :-)

$30. For breakfast alil much for me. My smoked salmon Benedict would of been great. If they didn't pile on sooooo much cream cheese.

The waitresses were beefing with each other in front of the customers which was kind of awkward and the home fries were just large dry chunks of potato.

Christina Jagel

Amelia Lord

A small town stop where you get a global vision. A really great experience where food meets culture. You get an at home feel with some sandwiches and teas which are flavored with the owner’s international travels and causes. Food, Family, and inspiration are what you get when you pit stop at the whistle stop. Must not miss experience!

Jennifer Kelly

Hands down the best breakfast for miles and miles! I stop here every morning before work for fresh juice and coffee and at least twice a week I grab an omelette! She even lets me bring in my own Tupperware so she can pack it in that for me. I heart Heddy, she's the best!!

Just had an excellent breakfast at Whiste Stop. It was a special, Truffle Benny, and was absolutely delicious. We normally attend the monthly dinners, which we love, and this was our first time for breakfast. Heddy and her staff are wonderful people. We will be back again sooner rather than later and will be booking our spot shortly for the Winter Solstice dinner Dec 21st! If you dine there, be sure to ask about their charity dinners. A great time for a great cause, and 100% of proceeds goes to charities locally, nationally, and abroad.

Edible, certainly a disappointment from our last 5 Star meal there. Popeye Omelet - Spinach in omelette was uncooked and just laid on top of 1 slice of American cheese with No seasoning. Cranberry nut bread was good. Hash browns did not have any flavor. Cinnamon bun was cut from what seemed to be 2 thin slices from a plain bagel, with added butter with Cinnamon on top .... really not something that I’d ever order again. My napkin was old and yellowing. Sweetener was put in a salt shaker which had small holes. You had to really shake the sweetener container vigorously to get sweetener into your coffee. I found it easier just to use regular sugar than deal with shaking a salt shaker so many times to get even a little taste of sweetener out of it. This was our second visit to the Whistle Stop, and our last.

Has a variety of breakfast foods, might serve lunch, never been at that time. Includes eggs Benny, salmon and bagels and a slew of omelettes. Basically whatever you would ever want for breakfast, except pizza. easy four stars. Limited seating, most of it outdoors, so I would come on a nicer day.

Jim Mitchell

Cheap beer

Philip Gonski

Best breakfast in DR hands down. Always go out of their way to create breakfast specials that cannot be found anywhere else. Today I had a Bear Benedict (YES BEAR).

Peter Amos

Unique, old school, innovative cooking, warm and friendly, tiny, crowded, not to be missed. Not fancy.

we stopped here on our way across the state. close to route 9. easy street parking. staff was warm and wonderful. there is indoor seating don't worry about some of the "outdoor seating only" descriptions . food was delicious and fast. we will go again. really great atmosphere.

I love this little eatery! Amazing eggs bennys and home brewed holistic herbal teas. Can eat inside or out during warmer months. Quaint decor and friendly knowledgable family run service with a smile. Try the cinnabun french toast! Breakfast and lunch hrs only, too small for large parties.

We have been trying to get our act together to go here for years- finally made it today & what a treat! It is a funky, fun breakfast place! The menu is very unique including a large selection of herbals teas, homemade lemonades & plain old coffee. The food choices are also unique, seasonal & changing specials. We shared a small pancake- perfect appetizer! I judge a breakfast place by the hash & they did not disappoint- it was fabulous!! Just the right size portions- you are served 1 piece of toast but our server Alex made it very clear, if we wanted a second piece it was not a problem & no charge. I couldn’t resist a second piece of the wonderful cranberry, walnut toast with homemade blackberry marmalade! My hubby had the 4 cheese omelette & a side of sage sausage - both amazing! This place is family owned & their was friendly, family banter between Mom who was cooking & the two kids waiting tables. They included all of the patrons in conversation & couldn’t have been nicer to us! I read the history of the restaurant & there are deep roots locally but also ties to Key West. A definite, funky Key West vibe that we loved. We won’t wait long for our next visit!!

Tight quarters, expensive, loud cook/atmosphere, and shared tables. Room temp table water with children’s plastic cups that was not served to us. Ordered the Cannes Omelette, cinnamon bun French toast, side of home fries, one coffee and one OJ. The amount of home fries served was skimpy and some were burnt, between the potatoes that came with the omelette and the extra side ordered, there was maybe one light portion combined. The compound butter inside the omelette was delicious but there was way too much. The omelette meal was also served with ONE slice of toast, this is probably the first time in my life I’ve ordered a full breakfast and it’s come with one slice of toast. The portions on the omelette plate were not large. The cinnamon bun French toast was over cooked, dry, and soaked in butter. It seemed like a store bought cinnamon bun that was just flattened on a griddle. The potatoes were the best part of both meals but despite ordering extra there was the least of them. This breakfast for two cost $30, which left a lot to be desired, mostly potatoes and another slice of toast.

My fiance and I love going to the Whistle Stop every weekend with our dog! The food is amazing with different specials every time we go and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure we have a wonderful experience each time.

Jim Harings

Really cool little place. Great food, happy waitress. I would recommend sitting outdoors on the picnic tables, it gives you a sense of community, yet somehow keep your privacy.

The Whistle Stop is my all-time breakfast favorite. I'm determined to try everything on the menu before repeating an order so I don't inadvertently miss any treasures. Personal favorites include "spicy crab eggs benedict with lime Hollandaise sauce" and "Portugese omelet." Don't miss the "cranberry nut bread." Additionally, the owner offers a monthly evening four-course-meal-including-wine fund raiser. Check out their website. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is causal, relaxed, and charmingly eclectic. Warning: Your "breakfast eyes" will be jaded once you've eaten here." Don't miss it!

The restaurant was one of the most surprising things on our trip , very quaint and great food and wonderful staff , I highly recommend you stop by for a bite

Love this place. Very casual. Seat yourself. Hard to get a spot if you don't time it right on weekends. Also best for smaller size groups only. Ideal for 2 to 4 people in winter, a couple more in nice weather when the patio is open. Any more though and it may get tricky finding a spot on a busy Sunday morning. Outdoor family style seating at picnic tables as well as a tiny indoor seating area and counter. My favorite dish is the Cannes omlet with spinach, bacon and and herbed goat cheese. Yum. Other dishes are good as well. Make sure to check out the specials list on the table.

joann miller

Thanks food is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. There's a long outdoor table or inside for cozy.

GREAT FOOD the staff was very nice and it gives a cosy and home like vibe.We tried the stuffed french toast, rolled pancakes, and the golden Benny. This was an amazing expeirience and I would definatly eat again!!

Carl Guild

I just ate the best omelette of my like at the Whistle Stop Cafe! (and I have eaten a lot of Omelettes in my life!) I had a Wild Mushroom, Truffle, Leaks and Swiss Omelette with a side of Bacon and Broccoli. The omelette itself was OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! The perfect blend of flavors. I don't even know how to really describe it other than AMAZING! The broccoli was well seasoned and tender and the bacon was absolutely perfect. Not too hard, not too soft.. It is actually very tough to do bacon right, but the whistle stop is SPOT ON! If you are looking for a real breakfast, by people who obviously know what they are doing, this is the spot to come. I will definitely be back!

Edwin Lopez

Carolyn Ottaunick

Awesome breakfast! Friendly staff, super welcoming. They have communal seating but I like it a lot, you get to socialize with everyone around you and learn more about the area. The green sausage was amazing! Portion size was good for a fair price.

Carole Hagemeister

This tiny place had great service and delicious food. The cinnamon bun French toast was a treat. They had a huge selection of team, many that have been brought back from the owner's world travels.

My husband and I just moved to Deep River yesterday so of course the first thing on our agenda was find our go to spot in the area for breakfast. We decided to start by checking out this place and our search is complete. Hands down some of the best breakfast we have ever had and the owner has a fantastic personality. I usually dont care for eggs Benedict, but I read that's what they are known for so I tried the broccoli benedict from the specials menu. It was AMAZING. We cannot wait to come back!!!

Lauretta Kimball

One of the best breakfasts I have ever had. Extensive menu and interesting history to this spot-and I LOVE how they give back to the community with the charity dinner events they put on!

Farm to table honestly made food by a super friendly chef and lady boss. All food is 5 star quality, hand chosen/purchase by the owner from farm markets. Everything made by hand and from scratch. O M G. Wish I could eat here every day!

Tiny place but what great food. REAL corn beef hash.... if there's any left when you get there. Say hi to Hedy. The owner is almost always there.

Russ Jordan

moderate price with good value many good specialties

Bryan Perkins

Nice people good food

Brenda Walker

Local small town breakfast joint opened 7:30-1:30 pm normally and once a month for dinner (usually something special and needs advance reservation I believe). They're known for their benedicts and the Poseidon with crab meat and lots of dill did not disappoint. The spinach was the perfect addition to the creamy crab meat and the home fries were on point, deliciously seasoned, not too burnt. Definitely try their healing teas, they will be very honest with which ones taste bad and which are too sweet. Watermelon frost apparently is really bad. They have a fun trivia deck of cards to play through while you wait on the food. Great idea! And Cash only btw!

Kim Dunn

Cute place..yummy breakfast

Michelle Vicino

Hands down the best breakfast in the lower river valley, possibly in the whole state. We've been coming here since we moved to Old Saybrook four years ago. Great service and great food. Known for Benedicts but I'm partial to the omelettes with seasonal vegetables and a side of beets of the griddle (although the potato home fries are equally delicious). Today it was an omelette with beets, turnips, spinach, onions, and Gorgonzola. Delicious! The coffee is very good and always hot and fresh. Go often as she mixes things up regularly. Sit outside in back in the nice weather and enjoy the fresh air!

Chris Whitehead

Summer-Sage Dionne

More than a few of my favorite things!!! Wonderful, homey, small town charm with an eclectic assortment of healing teas, fresh menu and spirited staff that make you feel more than welcome. From the Cinnabun French Toast to the variety of Bennys, every drop into the Whistlestop, never disappoints. Fast, friendly and family style atmosphere!
