This Coffee Shop is classified in the category of Coffee shop.
The best roaster in Boulder, bar none. There’s usually a wait, but it’s always worth it. I prefer to brew my own and when I buy locally there’s few other choices to compare it with. Recently tried a pastry and was blown away as well. This place can do no wrong, a second location would be great to alleviate the pressure.
Nice little coffeeshop joined with a Deli in the same space. Good drinks, tasty pastries, and friendly service. Good for to go orders or meeting another 1-2 people. Not great for groups (limited seating, and it's busy).
Coffee is pretty amazing. Very well made!
Great local coffee and don't miss their partners in the shared space Cured... A cheese and meat lovers delight! Good selection at the counter with a great selection of in house and local products. Oh and the coffee is beyond good.
Honestly really good coffee and pastries. They're craft so keep that in mind with the prices. But for craft coffee they're very accessable though the drinks take time, as good coffee should
Good coffee and a nice atmosphere to sit and work.
I started came here when it wasn't so popular and busy. Their beans are locally roasted and well known. I like to try their drip coffee and they only few tea selections, but they all are good. Although their drinks are really good, I wish they'd care more for pastries, because one time I saw flies were flying around pastries since they are just exposed outside.
Small portions for exorbitant prices.
Excellent baked goods. The sticky bun is a destination pastry. Ordered a normal coffee which was very good. Nice space to sit down and eat/drink slowly. Line gets a little long if you don’t show up right when it opens at least on a Saturday. This would be my go to coffee shop if I lived in Boulder.
We were in Boulder for 3 days and went here twice... Highly recommend. Great coffee, atmosphere, and pastries.
Great coffee, nice atmosphere, variety of sweets ( gluten free as well).
TLDR: a funky cycle friendly cafe in boulder. Great coffee, service and DONUTS ! We found this place by accident and fell in love instantly. A cycle friendly cafe they have some super cool cycle gear for sale. Carb load after a long ride with some tasty donuts and a good proper strong coffee! In the same building there is a deli which wasn’t open but had some great food available too. I’d recommend this place for a chilled coffee w friends or if you need to do some work - there were a few people w laptops open! Your only a short walk from the main centre of old boulder town so handy!
The cappuccino was one of the nicer coffees I have had in a long time. Cafe is kind of a mix with Wine and cheese collection too.
Most excellent butter croissant and canele. Top drawer coffee and cappuccino. A real find.
Espresso second to none. Just don’t ask for cinnamon or syrup
Cool spot! Love the combination of quality coffee and a deli. Went multiple times and was fantastic each time
In a city with many great options for coffee (and specifically espresso), Boxcar is head and shoulders above the rest. Do yourself a favor and order a double shot here.
This is what I'm talking about! Places like this are hard to find these days since everywhere that claims to do latte art claims to have good coffee but that's not actually the case. Luckily, Boxcar is of the other sort where they actually care about their coffee enough to make a great latte regardless of how much art is on it. The staff was friendly, the coffee was great and the whole atmosphere of this place is awesome. They're in the same space as CURED and cured has awesome meats, cheeses, sandwiches and custom "picnic baskets" that they will put together for you from their wide range of offerings. Totally A+!
Best coffee in Boulder, if you can withstand the hipster vibe. Lots of space to enjoy their awesome drinks and baked goods. Take some roasted coffee beans home it's well worth it.
Wow this place is great. What really makes it great is the atmosphere. Everyone is cheery, and you get the true experience of a hipster American wannabe-European café, which they really nail and it's a positive thing. You can tell immediately from walking in that they are a high-quality café, and they take the time to think about important things like the design and layout of their shop, and the presentation of the coffee-making process. I was able to stay here for a couple of hours and work on my laptop, and it put me in the best mood. The space is shared by a small truly European-style meat and cheese market. Seriously, it's places like this that make me appreciate the way American culture likes to absorb other cultures and morph them into a modern style with their own twists of comfort, design, and friendliness... Don't miss this place.
The drink was excellent, although they do not have any flavor offerings, such as a house made vanilla or caramel. The baristas were very friendly but the wait was too long. It took twenty minutes from the time I entered until the time I got my drink to go.
Unique shop that's perfect for a drop-in on the way to the mountains - you can pick up trail snacks here too! Try the boilermaker for a truly unique coffee experience.
Great coffee. Wish I spent more time in the store. Will be back
Fantastic coffee, snacks are nice too. The line and process to order is awkward, but I wouldn’t take it personally.
Great coffee and sandwiches!
Great place for a quick bite, cup of coffee or tea!
The best coffee place in Boulder. The coffee here is the definition of perfection and the pastry is super delicious. I wish they had a more spacious place to sit.
I am grateful for their use of alternative milks and in love with their creative atmosphere.
Was unable to understand the parking system here. Not good for travlers, only for locals. Will look for someplace else where I can park safety and to top it off a white Lexus just bumped the back of my van then just drove off. Sorry this has nothing to do with the coffee only not able to get any.
Their iced mocha program is quite good. The trick for sure to get a great iced mocha - e.g. here and especially at an Intelly - is to make the chocolate ganache not powder and to keep it a little closer to chocolate, a little further from sweet. Space inside is bigger than it looks from the outside, not too crowded. I would love to see them expand a little, perhaps with a more organized sidewalk and parking spot seating area in the summer.
Unbeatable pastries, to say nothing of great coffee. Try the Boilermaker- a unique twist on single cup pourover. Had to say it, even though I'm an Illini fan
Mambo #5 boiled is tasty
The best coffee in Boulder. And I say this as a person who does not drink very much coffee and only had the latte. But I say it with confidence and a great deal of assuredness because we had a lot of coffee for a couple places in a short period of time and this was by far the best.
Sooooo good! Had a latte one day and drip coffee another day. Both were amazing. Also, the butter croissants are perhaps the closest thing to being in France while actually in the US. Great job!
I love lattes and have drunk them all over the world, but they have the best latte I’ve ever had. Went back twice during my Boulder visit and I wish I could return everyday. Great chocolate chip cookies too- love the pinch of sea salt on top- and delicious pastries.
Fantastic coffee, and the best scone I’ve ever eaten.
By far the best baked goods and also pastries in Boulder. Coffee and tea are perfect every time and staff is super kind and quick. Perfect coffee shop. 10/10
Great coffee
Really excellent coffee with a great cheese shop in the same space.
Great latte! Taste is very balanced.
Delicious fresh Americano, and intimate setting for connecting with friends.
Great lattes, and one of the best croissants outside Europe. Sadly the credit card machine automatically adds 20% tip, but the staff are very kind so this European didn't feel quite as cheated as happens sometimes :)
Best pastries in Boulder, and the coffee ain't too bad either. Great staff, great ambiance, just an all-around wonderful place to spend anywhere from five minutes to three hours.
That cold brew will get u jacked
Their pastry selection is so creative, diverse, and the tastiest I've found. Such unique flavor combinations with great texture
I went here on one of the very first few days they opened and I was in a hurry and thought - "cool, a new coffee spot!" and Cured wasn't even set up yet so I didn't get it. It took like 12 minutes to get my coffee and it was $4 and I was a bit shocked and thought "this place will never make it"....but then I went back when I had a moment and understood that this place offers amazing coffee pour-overs and they are total coffee geeks and this whole place - from the coffee to the meats/cheeses/gifts/booze etc... is SO AWESOME. Love this place and visit each time I'm back in Boulder.
Great atmosphere, great products, amazing coffee. Majority of the staff are snotty, not pleasant and have attitudes. Especially at the meat and cheese counter.
Excellent coffee shop in downtown Boulder. I came here for a few hours during a camping trip in the Rockies to do some work and grab some coffee. They have amazing espresso! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great for relaxing. In the back there is a small wine shop that has wine tastings. I also bought a pound of the Stella espresso blend. Great coffee shop all around!
As always excellent coffee and quick friendly service.
Great coffee, great energy, awesome food available! FYI, AT&T cell service is poor inside, but they do offer free wifi. If you're planning on having a meeting here, come early so you can grab a table, which are often full.
Amazing coffee, cheese selections (and people who know all about each one) and they have an area for you to pick out a bottle of wine to go with your spread. Perfect stop before a picnic date!
Great service. Fresh baked items I highly recommend them.
Staff is a bit snobby. Though one girl was very nice. Drinks are good. Pastries are a little stale. Donuts are good. Very expensive for the quality. Starbucks is a better expierence. But, I think maybe I came in on a bad day?
Great coffee and pastries. Service is always good. One of my all-time favorite modern coffee shops.
Best place for your well-crafted hipster light roast in this dang town.
Love their cappuccino! Best in town. It's a coffee beverage with milk, not a milk beverage with coffee. Smooth and creamy deliciousness!
There iced vanilla lattes are awesomeness and if u like exotic they have a boil pot that's kinda cool cause there water boils at a lower temp at that elevation!!
The service is a bit snooty, but the coffee is good.
We ordered a boilermaker and a drip. Both were coffees any coffee aficionado would love, while being very different. The drip had a clean taste, while the boilermaker had a muddy look and more chewy taste. There is a large selection of interesting pastries. Both we had were yummy. Nice atmosphere. Nice people. They share space with Cured and a wine shop, making this an equally great day long stop.
Superb coffee. They are usually pretty focused and busy so even though they make excellent drinks, it's not the kind of place where they will talk a lot about the coffee. They do t "teach and share" like some places do while trying to force the coolaid. Although, a little more customer engagement wouldn't hurt...
Great 3rd wave coffee shop and roaster!
Great coffee!!!! Fun meeting spot!!!
Awesome vibe for a cup of coffee.
Fantastic coffee and good sandwiches and sweets
I had the Boilermaker, their specialty coffee. It seems a bit of a novelty to me, as the final product is a pretty similar to French press, but it's good and cool to watch it boil. $4 seems expensive, but you get about 2 cups/servings of coffee. The space is nice with good seating at small tables in the back, and the other half is fancy charcuterie and the like.
Really enjoy their coffe and tea. This location had Cured, a cafe, cheese and cured meat place that was amazing and went well with the tea we had.
Amazing!!! They know what they are doing and even during rush hour they don't compromise quality. I've tried an Americano and their boiler plate coffee invention and both were amazing!!! Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the beans they use are of high quality, you can taste it. A MUST STOP!!!
Boxcar has some excellent coffee, expensive honey, and chocolate to tickle your palate. Their cheese selection is the best on Pearl and the house made grilled cheese sandwiches are to die for. The only downside is the lack of electrical plugs and so-so wifi.
Workers were nice and the place looked cool. But there are absolutely no plugs! I had to leave because I couldn't get work done due to not being able to charge anything.
We decided to stay in this cafe on our trip to Boulder and we were not disappointed! I really loved their pastries. Espresso was great too!
Great coffee house! Whenever I visit downtown, I will have Boxcar coffee to treat myself!
Extremely high quality cappuccino drinks in a nice market setting
Fantastic coffee! Get the Boxcar Bar for a great snack
Great space, best cafe in town. The pastry section is to die for, be ready to wait a few minutes longer for well crafted drinks.
Coffee is consistantly the best Ive ever had. The care that goes in to every cup is exceptional.
Very peaceful and quaint little coffee shop off the beaten path. They share a space with a meat deli and a wine store. Very nice atmosphere complete with a room in the back with a nice potted tree and Zen vibe. Delicious coffee as well, as Boxcar is a quality roaster and supplier of coffee. Must try if you are a purveyor of quality coffee and people. 10/10
I ordered a cortado using their house espresso blend and the coffee was sour. Either the espresso was under extracted or their beans are quite rough. For one of the best coffee shops in Boulder I was very disappointed. The atmosphere is fine, they have plenty of seating. They have a very bougie vibe to them, but the baristas were pleasant and very nice.
The barristas are never very friendly (not rude, just not friendly). And $3.50 for a filter house coffee in my own cup sure seems like a lot. It's not even very strong coffee.
Ermahgerd! The lavender pistachio croissant is sooooo good.
Great coffee. Friendly staff. Perfect atmosphere to get work done (if you can find a seat). I love the partnership they have with Cured. You could easily spend the entire day here. Coffee and pastries in the morning, and then a great lunch, followed by an afternoon cup of coffee.
Decent place.. a little confusing layout and sandwiches eye wateringly expensive, thou worth checking out
Pretty nice place. Seems cool. Coffee was great. I can't remember the baked item I had but it was good.
I ordered one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had here. This is a nice place to post up and work for the day, but there are only 2 outlets in the whole place, so you may have to wait if you need to charge a laptop.
Small and quaint coffee shop. Best place to get a latte. The staff are always friendly. They also have cheese and meat selection bars.
Half coffee roasters, half bakery, half sandwich shop, Boxcar coffee was a different experience even amongst the many wild craft roasters I have visited in the past. We sampled several sandwichs and iced lattes. Everything was absolutely delicious. All of the sandwich ingredients tasted fresh, my one complaint would be the bread to contents ratio was very high. Another note, Boxcar is pricey. Don't be surprised if you breakfast bill looks more like a dinner one.
By far the best place to go for coffee in Boulder. Service is always on point, the baristas are super helpful and all the drinks are delicious.
Not a good place to go if you need to use WiFi. Boulder is severely lacking in a good coffee shop scene. Most places, including this one are always packed, hard to find a table, few outlets, if any. The only good coffee shop in boulder that stays open past 7pm has live music every night including weeknights. This place consistently has poor WiFi (why have WiFi at all if it doesn’t work?) I asked several different employees about the issue. One told me to ask the baristas to reset it. The baristas told me that they can’t reset it and that the problem should fix itself. It didn’t.
Great coffee and cozzy. Upscale
Great coffee, beautiful espresso machine
Boxcar has my favorite coffee in Boulder. The coffee beans are of the highest quality and the baristas essentially perform a chemistry experiment when they brew pour overs. They also have a great selection of pastries for breakfast. Highly recommended, though it's a lot busier than it used to be, so if you want to hangout either come really early in the day or plan on a long wait for a table.
Clearly was not welcomed here as I am not from this area, very pretentious baristas looked at me like I was crazy. Sad that staff has to be so quick to judge and conclude that I am not worth their time. Oh and the coffee was shitastic.
My barista was rude and I did not catch his name (tall with short brown hair). However, the rest of my experience was amazing. The coffee had a great flavor, my friend ordered a latte and loved her beverage as well. The presentation was just as nice as the flavor. Overall a decent expereinc and a great atmosphere even though it was busy
They make beautiful mocha art here!
Adorable cafe. There is a lot going on in here as there is the coffees, then a cheese shop and some cured foods. The cheese and prepared food looked amazing (just wished I was hungry as I came after breakfast). Very friendly service. Really cool food products to buy that would make great gifts either for house warmings, the food lover in your life or if you want to splurge on yourself. My latte was good, though I've had better, so the 4 stars. I would definitely come back again for both coffee and everything else
Without a doubt the best place for coffee in Boulder. In fact these guys are world class. The espresso machine is a beautifully custom built job that gives an excellent pour. They roast a variety of their own beans on site which you can also purchase by the bag. If you are a coffee snob like me I promise you will not be disappointed.
Fabulous espresso....cheeses baked goods nice people!
Cortado is my drink of choice. I've been checking coffee shops out whenever in the area for work and Boxcar has nailed my Cortado better than any other cafés I've come across out here so far. No hyperbole, I swear. Temperature, pour and quality were fantastic and I look forward to many return visits. I should also point out that everyone was very friendly and welcoming. ♥️
Honestly, one of the most unique and wonderful cups of coffee I have ever swallowed.
With a recent move from Denver, I was panicking that Boulder didn't have a truly artisan cup of coffee to offer. We lived quite close to Overt (and Vert) in Washington Park and absolutely adore the hand picked/craft ingredients used in both restaurants. Boxcar serves an absolutely PERFECT cup of coffee with beautiful beans to brew at home. The ambience is also the perfect place to sit down with a cup and work - enough people watching to keep you entertained and privacy to get work done. Cannot recommend highly enough as THE place for coffee in Boulder.
Good coffee and service, could have used more seating/less people on laptops
A wealth of selections each more tempting than the next. Great friendly service. The atmosphere is inviting and inspiring i love this place.
A pleasant atmosphere, and great coffee. Boxcar Coffee indeed gets great beans and knows how to brew it. Coffee lovers will appreciate the baristas’ skills and knowledge in coffee. The place, however, can get very crowded. It’s obvious because it’s the top coffee place in Boulder, but won’t give you that great “Quiet Coffee Time”. They also sell some fresh meats which is a bit weird because it’s a coffee house, not a chophouse. Despite my negative observations, this is the go-to coffee house in Boulder.
The baristas are really well trained, the technique is flawless here. But the beans themselves are nothing special. Good drinks, probably the best in Boulder, but not world class.
Boxcar has a pretty solid claim to "best coffee in Boulder." No fussing around with small, grande, venti either....all pours are one-size fits all and the quality is AHH. Marvelous pastries, too.
The best place in boulder! A heaven for someone who loves coffee, cheese, and chocolate! They also have some fantastic GF products!
Best coffee in Boulder. Great spot for relaxing.
Great coffee, skilled baristas and lively space. Always hopping! The colocated deli and shop has great meats, cheese, chocolates, wine which is a nice bonus.
Where else are you going to get a boiler-maker brew? Love the atmosphere and life there!
Great coffee in Boulder! Some pastries available. This location shares a building with Cured, a wine a charcuterie shop.
Unique 4th wave coffee shop located in a shared space with Cured in beautiful Boulder Colorado. Unique varieties of coffee with multiple ways to brew each coffee. The modified espresso machine is SEXY!! Pastry game is on point!!
Great place for a meeting
These guys make great coffee and offer a hip place to study or read while drinking it. A little busy since it's in the same venue as Cured
Absolutely love boxcar. Whiskeygrin is my favorite roast I've ever had. I look forward to it every winter. Also they got a new espresso machine that's fantastic. And of course the baristas are excellent as always.
Best coffee in Boulder! For anyone traveling from overseas, I’m from Australia and drink coffee very regularly at home. I had given up on finding proper coffee in America but gave these guys a shot and I’m so glad I did!
Delicious! Loved that they had oat milk as a milk alternative option!
refreshing to have friendly service AND excellent espresso/food!!
Good for private conversation but counter service guy was rude.
Great coffee roasters!
$3.25 for an espresso? Yes, totally worth it. I have no problem paying for a perfect espresso properly served with a properly carbonated sparkling water.
Tons of coffee shops in Boulder but this is one of my favorites. Really unique setting and excellent coffee robust with flavor. Throwing a party...check out their cheese and meat trays. About as close to Italy as you can find in Boulder.
This is a very snooty place to get coffee. If you know someone, it seemed like they were friendlier. But being an Out of Towner, we felt very set aside. There is absolutely no reason for any business to act like that. First we have come across since being in Colorado. I had a hot chocolate - I've definitely had better. Hubs coffee was drinkable but just okay.
If you’re from Boulder, you already know this place, but if if you are visiting Colorado and love coffee as much as I do Boxcar Coffee is a must. For all you coffee snobs out there (my hand is raised) you will absolutely love not only the coffee, but the vibe of this place. Boxcar is a cool mix of artisan coffee paired with a small gift shop of local finds, a fine cheese and meat selection, and a wine nook in the back right corner. For all you fancy pants coffee drinkers, order the Boiler Maker Coffee with a lemon cookie
Fresh baked and brewed.
Loved the culture of this shop. Their coffee is worth drinking and buying a bag to take home.
Great coffee and atmosphere. The cheese shop is a plus.
Small coffee shop which made a perfect mocha (for those of us who weren't expecting or wanting a sugary drink). My wife really enjoyed the bergamot tea. Attached is a small wine shop and cured meats/lunch shop. A bit crowded even in the late afternoon, but I would recommend for a good cup of coffee at a reasonable price.
Unluckily an out of towner, otherwise I would be back all of the time. We were on our vacation in Boulder and usually we try a new coffee place every day. Boxcar was the first spot we tried, and our remaining days we didn’t even go to a different coffee shop because it was so good. For years I’ve been on a mission to try the best cappuccino I can. Boxcar won that for me by far.
I like this place a lot, but be aware, while it has some of Boulder's best coffee and pastries, it also has Boulder's least reliable WiFi.
I like white and sweet. But the coffee here is delicious hot and black
The best Cappuccino and Latte, I had, in the state of Colorado, so far. The coffee has a good smooth taste. Friendly staff and helpful with your order. Nice set up. If you haven't tried, you should.
Between Boxcar and the adjoined Cured Cheese etc place, you cant go wrong. Everything is fantastic. The baristas are the perfect amount of snobby, in my opinion!
Decent craft coffee, but slow service. One customer who had ordered ahead of me, didn't receive their drink, so I gave them the one I was handed and waited for the barista to make another. The barista gave me a drink token for the next time as they recognized I'd been waiting for awhile.
Great cup of coffee. This place also sells some wonderful cheeses and salamis.
Nice espresso but a super milky cappuccino. The space is nice and all brick-like, but the tables are not sturdy, there are no outlets available, it feels sort of claustrophobic. I wouldn't go back to work and its not the place I'd pick to meet someone for coffee, particularly given the Laughing Goat and Espresso are a few doors down. Also wouldn't go here for a really good cup of coffee. They have a clean setup, OK service here.
I go here for coffee whenever I'm in Boulder and they've never let me down. There is a great meat and cheese place in there too if you need a snack!
Best coffee shop in Boulder with a superb rotating single origin choice and top-notch baristas.
Delicious coffee, the baristas are very talented.
Delicious cortado. Well-balanced espresso. Smooth finish. Beautiful latte art. Recommend! Homely ambience. Quaint, shared space with other small businesses Affordable for Boulder.
These baristas know how to make coffee. They put their heart and soul into each cup and it is one of the best cups of coffee I have found in Boulder. Love the atmosphere of the shop and the fun butcher block area. Lots of people watching!
Best coffee in Boulder. There is usually a line, but its worth the wait.
Can be difficult to find seating sometimes, as this place is pretty popular. Eclectic array of coffee/tea/snacks/sandwiches/pastries/etc.
This place has a seriously cool vibe. It's relaxed, friendly, and warm. It was a little overwhelming, actually, with all the different "stations" they have in here: coffee, sandwiches, wine, and then some other checkout point in the front. I only made my way through the coffee line. It was fairly priced and delicious. Definitely a cool spot to check out, so don't pass it up if you're looking for a nice cafe in Boulder!
Good coffee with vibrant environment. Their caffee latte is good(what I usually order)! But when I ordered Iced caffe Mocha for my son, it was not a good choice.
Best tasting coffee i have personally had! Love the aesthetic, cleanliness, and quality consistency. The baristas are very friendly and hardworking beacuse the line out the door moves pretty fast! I like going in the afternoon when its not so busy to enjoy a latte and one of their amazing fresh baked pastries!
My every day go to for Boulder's best latte. And everybody knows your drink....
Wonderful European cafe feel, very friendly and amazing goodies.
Quaint setting. Yummy pastries. Robust coffee. Very welcoming with nice atmosphere.
Amazing coffee. Great shop. Medium roast coffee without the bitterness. Not to be missed. U can go to a lot of coffee shops and not run across one even close to this one.
Delicious upscale deli and coffee shop :) highly recommend their cheese plates, and their baguettes are awesome! My only quibbles are the limited seating and longish lines on the weekends, but those don't diminish the yum factor.
Delicious! And Cured next door is a fabulous pairing! I'd go both places everyday if I could.
Really tasty iced mocha!
Their staff is so amazing ! Great atmosphere (they always have fresh flowers!!)
Best mocha in Boulder. A wine cellar and charcuterie are located in the same space.
Excellent coffee an a great market with selections ranging from artisnal wine/liquor to fine charcuterie, cheeses and breads. Did I mention the coffee was amazing?
Great espresso but generally unfriendly/unhelpful staff and douchey clientele.
Very nice place, super helpful and friendly staff, great pastries. Oddly, the coffee drinks were just meh. My double shot Latte tasted like warm milk with a hint of coffee. That hint had no flavor. As compared to Equator coffee in Marin, and a number of other renowned coffee roasters that would be four or five stars, the coffee was two stars.
The OG breakfast sandwich is crazy good. Really nice atmosphere.... an indoor tree with fairy lights added a nice vibe.
We drive 30min to Boulder to get our espresso beans from this place , truly delicious
Was only able to make a quick stop, very friendly service! got to try the cold brew which was great, and the pastries were awsome! Cool that they had meat, cheese, wine there also. Cant wait to go back and try more of their beans/coffee!
