This Coffee Shop belongs to the category of Coffee shop.
My friend told me about this place and I was convinced it sounded too good to be true. I finally went today. My go-to coffee drink is a latte so I was thrown off when the barista told me that they didn't do lattes per se. She proceeded to prepare me a cup of coffee that had the creaminess that I like from lattes. Honestly, it was amazing! And they really do make sure to check if you like it. Definitely try it out!
So glad they exist outside the silicon valley! My favorite gourmet coffee place, pour over with different spices and fresh herbs. The Turkish one is my favorite. But moderately pricey. Not as much as the new "boutique coffee" places in SF, but more than your typical chain coffee places.
Nicest people in the whole city! And the coffee is of course great with a good variety of roasts for pour overs.
Great place to work, read a book or study. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Use the order ahead app because there's almost always a line! Coffee is good, same as all the other philz. Food is kinda slow but good. Friendly staff. Parking can be tough but just keep an eye out a block before you get there.
Very good coffee! Best in DC.
Always awesome coffee and super friendly professional staff! Love this place!
I love Philz! There is lots of seating, it's clean and my coffee is always perfect. They're very friendly here too.
My favorite coffee spot
Wonderful service and great place to get some work done!
I love Philz. Fell in love with it in SF and was so happy when they came to DC. The coffee is delicious and the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. They are definitely about customer service and making the customer happy.
Lots of space but also pretty crowded
The staff is fantastic and if you like flavored pour-over coffee you will probably like this place.
Great stuff
Went there looking for sticky buns, but they didn't have any. Got a piece Baklava instead.
Pour over coffee at its best! Philz creates a relaxing and welcoming environment. We ordered Wonderbar, Silken Splendor and Dancing Water as pour over and ground beans. The true test for us is to make coffee at home with our own creamers. If our home prep tastes as wonderful as Philz prep, then we commit to the brand and type of besn. We enjoy Wonderbar and Dancing Water the best. Their food menu is also worth trying.
As an European I've certain expectations with coffee (sorry sounds arrogant, but original Italian style is THE real coffee). If you travel in the US and expect good coffee at every corner: you'll be devastated! Americans let normally drip water through ground coffee without pressure, so there's never a very strong taste whatever bean and roast you try. Nevertheless @ Philz I had a very good coffee drink, was going back several times after discovering it. Friendly staff, modern and elegant interior. That was nice!
Fast and friendly service. They're ALWAYS smiling.
Loving the mint mojito!
I didn't know Starbucks started a spin-off. Mediocre service, over-roasted coffee, you know the drill.
Love the coffee just need to ask them about the brewing process so I can make my own at home lol. Always friendly staff and delicious coffee!
Love my Philz Coffee. Every time I come here I always get an awesome cup of coffee ☕️. The service is always great and make sure that I sip and completely satisfied. I love the environment and it’s very easy to work here with having WiFi access. I try to always go to locations I haven’t been into just to try out the different food. I do miss Philz’s on Virgin America flights. Note: my favorites are always Estatic, Mint Mohito and Philz’s Ice Tea.
A little confusing at first, unlike most coffee shops, you order directly with the barista then pay at the register after getting your drink. Great coffee options, I believe they only have pour over options, no espresso drinks. Drinks can take a while when busy.
My favorite spot to get a pourover coffee. Each drink on the menu has so many different flavors so try a bunch, but my personal favorite is the New Manhattan. Pretty good prices on pounds of coffee if you are getting the monthly special too!
Their mojito latte was surprisingly yummy!!
I'd never been to a Philz before, and this one was a great place to start. Really nice selection of coffees(Jamaica Blue Mountain!) and a helpful, friendly staff.
friendly baristas and great coffee. Tantalizing Turkish. Amazing.
Philz Coffee is the best coffee in the world. They not only have the delicious coffee but the customer service is top notch too. You guy are amazing, best time to go is in the morning. Love the atmosphere here. This is my new go to coffee spot.
Can't decide? First time? Try Jacob's Wonderbar "medium cream light sweet"
Very lively joint with a mostly young crowd. The service was awesome including the coffee.
Love the coffee, and the service is wonderful. This location is often crowded, due to its proximity to University Ave and Stanford's campus.
It’s just the best coffee :)
It would be five stars, but their gluten free options are terrible sugar bombs. Please get gluten free bread! Ok, now, 2 tips 1 parking can be rough, if you are in walking distance just foot it. Two, you must Order ahead with the App, if you don't go spend forever waiting for your coffee, indeed you might spend forever just waiting to order your coffee and then wait and get again forever just to pick it up. For the uninitiated they only do pour overs... do not embarrass yourself by ordering a latte or an espresso. We have had some European guests that found this hard to handle!
Dog friendly. Great location with outdoor seating.
Great healthy food and awesome cup of Joe!
Overpriced okay-ish coffee. Nothing great.
Great coffee as usual, quite a lot of seats.
A unique set of brilliant blends of coffee!
Great selections of coffee, all made to order. The workspaces are comfortable and spacious. It's a fantastic place for fantastic coffee either to go or to sit and relax with
I really appreciate the selection of roasts and I think they do a great job with their pour-overs. It's a local place that's been around for ages, and I imagine that's why their queueing system is so terrible. Once you get used to it, it's not so bad.
Excellent Coffee served by wonderful n energetic people.
Everyone I know loves Philz.
Great fast service at this location. Friendly staff
Love the coffee. Nice atmosphere. Helpful and friendly baristas.
Best coffee I’ve had ever!!!!
Always a great experience. The location is nice and they have tables on the outside for those nice days. People are always friendly and they will always make you a perfect coffee. I would recommend the Mocha Tesora with light sweetness and of you want to an ahead, just use the app.
The best dang pour over coffee you can get in DC - bar none.
Good coffee. Generally get filtered soul
A large store, drinks are great, and service are good. It’s in the opposite to a Caltrain station, so easy to park your car. Plenty of tables and chairs to seat.
Employees are helpful, atmosphere is open and inviting. Care is taken when making your cup of coffee. The coffee itself imho is ok. I wouldn't stand in line like some do for it.
Philz never disappoints and this location is no exception. It also has a lot more seating including a comfy leather couch! Same great Philz experience, with great seating and all of the amenities of University Ave, I can't think of anything missing!
This is my favorite coffee shop in DC. Employees are very friendly, and the coffee is delicious!!!! The food is pretty good too.
Boy, can they make a good cup of coffee!
Get the sugar-free oatmeal cookie coffee (yes, that's really a thing and it will blow your mind). So good!! Sweet staff, clean coffee shop. Highly recommend.
Both times I've been my drinks were meh. Once I got a bunch of coffee grounds in my drink. The other just had too much mint in my chai tea which over powered the flavor. However the staff is really nice and it's a good places to work/study although it's quite busy on the weekends. Haven't tried any of their food.
Very friendly staff. The place is quiet and relaxing with different varieties of great tasting coffee. It is a little pricey but still a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee while connected to wifi.
Flavors, Taste... Every thing... Best of best !!! Except staff attitude.
Its nice to see pour over coffee at scale!
Mint mojito always refreshing. Extra sweet and creamy +
I love philz! The folks at this location are always friendly, and it never takes too long despite being made by the cup. And I love that they have sales on their coffee of the week! This location is great for dog watching too!
Great coffee!
It's a typical nice Philz, plenty of space to catch up on some work. There are tons of outlets everywhere which is good if you plan on staying there a while. Staff is very nice!
Philz is my favorite coffee shop, and this location is one of my favorites. They have lots of comfortable seating (those couches tho), and lots of desk space. It can get very busy in the morning, so expect a line, or simply use their app to have your order ready when you get there! Edited 3.6.2018: Philz no longer uses Orderahead (RIP) but now uses Caviar for ordering for pickup and for delivery. Edited 4.22.2018: Philz now has their own app for ordering ahead. I highly recommend it. It’s nicer and easier to use than the other previous apps.
Awesome coffee shop with freshly brewed on the spot!!! Highly recommended.
I call this place "the Lamborghini of coffee", as it truly is a luxurious brand of coffee. Great staff.
First visit to this place, definitely clean with a vibe once you walk in. Staff was very helpful and accommodating to new patrons. But, the process of ordering, paying, and picking up is not real clear. We ordered and paid the cashier and waited for quite a while, watching others pick up their orders, only to find the original employees holding our orders without announcement. But, their green tea was excellent and the coffee tasted really good. Their snacks were fresh with good taste. A definite recommendation if in the area.
Coffee was good, busy place, expect to wait a bit. Reasonable price, not a cheap cup of coffee however. Philtered soul blend was particularly good.
The best coffee I've ever had. All the other big chains please take notice.
Excellent coffee theyre the best of the best!
It's Amazing how long people will wait for a cup of coffee.
Got helped by a new, bearded employee. I did not catch his name unfortunately but the coffee was bomb and he was extremely courteous. When is Philz not good though? New guy deserves props though, thanks.
The place is good if you are into brewed coffee only. They don`t do espressos, lattes or cappuccinos. The server asked me what I liked about lattes and tried her best to make me a drink as close to a latte as possible. I did not like the drink and I think she should have told me upfront that they don`t make lattes. Anyhow this place isn't for espresso lovers but I`m sure there coffee variety and flavors are great.
I love Philz coffee, great tasting smooth blends! I would give it 5 but there's always a line. It moves well but on average you'll need 20 minutes (or more) to order coffee. Staff is always super friendly and attentive to your liking.
Customer service could use a little work. No way to put your own creamer, sugar, ext in your drink. Iced coffee is just hot coffee poured over ice so you get watery cool coffee instantly. All in all the product was not bad just not great
This place has great coffee but even better staff. They always make sure your coffee is perfect. Never tired any food from there but the pastries look very good.
Like this review? Smash that
I always get the ecstatic with almond milk... delicious
Best coffee in DC. Lots of options, plus excellent iced tea and snacks.
Excellent custom brewed coffee. I would give it five stars, but there is a bit of a wait in weekends.
Philz is a must try when you visit the Bay Area!!!
I got a large drip New Manhattan. This one of their lighter roasted blends. It was a very good cup of coffee. My wife got the mint mojito sweet and creamy. I also really liked it. This place is very popular and in a newer area with a lot of restaurants and shops in the area. The have plenty of seating and two unisex restrooms.
Staff was rude. But it seemed just like it was just the one young girl with the long braids. We just got unlucky I guess. She should find some other job. Coffee was good. Thanks.
Almost a stereotype of SV Millenial milieu, it nonetheless delivers on quality, service, and friendliness.
Great way in making coffee and tea. Don't miss it.
Coffee is great, it’s always slow, particularly when there are crowds.
Wow! The aroma of the place is alone is enough to make me crave more. The flavours of their drinks are rich, complex, and worth every sip! Their tea selection is just as amazing as their coffee menu!
I love that they freshly brew their coffee and also I love the variety of coffee beans there. Hipster, WiFi and restroom access. Nice coffee shop overall.
I am a big fan of Philz coffee, especially their mint mojito coffee is my fav. I tried rose coffee here but it was too watery and didn’t taste rose at all. Staffs at the counter were very stiff not friendly
Nice vibes. Minus a star because they're order ahead app is only available for iPhone.
Great staff and coffee
Great location...great service
Cool coffee shop with the friendliest staff. The coffee is tasty too. Great place to study and get work done
Very expensive drip coffee, long wait, but they do have heavy whipping cream!
Mint mojito is the only thing I go there for!
Blown away by the coffee quality and my new favorite breakfast item, their avocado toast. The baristas' attention to detail and service is impressive. The ordering process is a little complicated and intimidating at first because of no signage or explanation - but it's worth powering through. If you are ordering coffee and food, go through the coffee line first, then head to the payment counter and repeat your coffee order to the cashier and order food. Then head back to wait for your coffee, then go back to the cashier for your food. No need to look like an idiot like I did. Learn from my confusion and enjoy!!!
Extremely slow service in spite of a long line and the servers insisting that the line form outside in the sun
Try their mint mojito iced coffee! It's outstanding!!
A unique stop for any coffee lover. The individually prepared cups keep the standards high however I personally find them a little sweet for my taste. For best quality visit after a meal to cap things off.
Quiche was good. I don't drink coffee but my family said theirs is good.
Love it. Parking limited
Excellent coffee, great atmosphere to get work done or meet up, and every time I’ve been here the service is phenomenal. ☕️ If it’s your first time they’ll ask and then tell you everything you need to know! The only downsides are the inside seating can fill up quickly during peak hours and sometimes the WiFi can drag, but not more than other area coffee shops so it hasn’t kept me away.
Great coffee and friendly service. Food is very good too. Coffee is made fresh for each cup. It is worth it, but you have to have some time to wait because it takes longer than a typical coffee shop.
Lots of students and tech workers come here to work. The service and quality is consistently good.
Long wait. Good coffee (better than Starbucks or Pete's), but not great. I prefer Red Rock in mountain view.
The aroma that welcomes and wakes up your senses as you walk in. The Mocha was prepare with oatmilk, just the right amount of brown organic sugar and fresh mint. Unlike others
Good tea. Good coffee. Internet available. But no vegan treats. Nice staff though.
Pricy of course but the coffee is silky and splendid.
Ordering ahead when there's no parking makes your drink taste magical.
Love, love, love Philz. The coffee is sooooooo good.
Best coffee EVER!! Everyone was so helpful with helping pick out coffee since I have never been here before. But really nice staff and Really Good Coffee!
Great service!
Baristas appear very powerful here. They are behind a raised large counter and you wait till called upon. It's like a DMV with the convoluted multiple lines. Coffee drinks are good. Mint mojito on a warm day is good
Holy ambrosia!
Philz is the best coffee in the whole wide world. It's oil sits on top after they do your made to order pour over. And if you taste your drink and do not absolutely love it. They will remake the drink for you anyway you like it. We first started going to this coffee joint on the west coast in San Francisco. it is been so good that we drove out of our way from Maryland about 30 minutes to go to this Philz and DC. The only thing that I do not like about Philz is that they don't have a location in New York City right now.
Delicious pour over coffees made to order. It's kind of slow because it's all so individual, but really tasty. Kind of expensive, but there's a $1 discount if you bring your own cup (a larger coffee for the price of a small). Yum!
Loved my Tesora - Medium Roast.
Mint mojito iced coffee = one of the greatest coffee drinks I've ever had in my life. Seriously.
Run of the mill Philz. Lots of space to work.
Good coffee. But honestly, it's expensive. And if you don't know how ordering works there is feels super awkward
The people are nice. The coffee is ok. There aren’t any vegan food options and no substitutions to add protein (hummus) to the avocado toast.
Fresh brewed coffee and cosmopolitan style. A nice alternative if you're tired of Starbucks.
So many different flavors! It's awesome. I'm usually not someone that prefers black coffee but this is the only place where I absolutely love having one.
Friendly stay, good coffee
Really great venue close to downtown Palo Alto. Their restroom is around back in a lobby. The barista will make the coffee and let you try it to make sure it's right before you leave
Philz coffee is my happy go-to place. A must try is the Jacob's Wunderbar, which is wunderbar! I also like the toasts here, especially sweet ones. The environment is conducive for talking or working. It has plenty of work stations and nice ambient music.
Always good.
My first time here. Loved the space, very cool and cozy. Will come back to work remotely. The coffee is top notch. Service was very good. Highly recommend for coffee connoisseurs.
Good coffee, although their service process is a little slow (not this particular store, but all Philz). It is probably the best coffee option in the neighborhood though.
Best coffee chain.
Very good. Great space to get some work done, study, or meet friends. Staff were very friendly and helpful with answering questions about their menu.
Always love Philz. Got the philtered soul (hazelnut flavored). It's so good!!! Also enjoy silken splendor. The baristas there are always so friendly, nice, and knowledgeable.
I love this location! Today, Eric at the register helped me choose a pastry, and I looove the creamy jam toast OMG :O So bomb. He was very kind, and helpful. Amazing customer service:) plus I got my delicious Yerba Mate very quickly! Thanks Philz!
My goto place for getting magical coffees!
Not the kind of coffee shop I was expecting (espresso bar). Nevertheless, their coffees are very good and the staff is very friendly.
Friendly staff and adequate spacing for working remotely. An unusual coffee house since they only serve drip coffee(no espresso bar), teas, and a select few non coffee/tea options. Additionally they have a full stock of whole bean , along with a modern atmosphere.
Strong, quality coffee. Will energize you all day! And the costumer service is great!
Great coffee! Great service! Philz is in a great location for those working in SE near the Navy Yard or DOT. Quick service while you drink of choice is made to taste!
I had heard of Philz but just thought it was another coffee place. I walked in during a free coffee weekend promo and had no idea how the system works. Apparently they are more like a bar where you order from the baristas first. That way you can discuss exactly what you want, get their expert advice... etc. Then you go to pay. I'm not the type of coffee person who needs this type of service so I'll probably just order from the app next time. The thing is... the coffee was amazing. I got the ecstatic with medium cream and sugar and found it to be perfect. I will probably dream about it. This location has a Buck Showalter snow globe which is a huge bonus considering proximity to Nats Park.
Great coffee. very nice staff. I like the process you order your coffee here. it's always line here when I drive by that shows people are willing to wait in line to get their great coffee.
A very crowded location, as expected due to proximity to campus. Amazing coffee
Great food and coffee plus incredibly friendly staff.
Great service and coffee a must to try when your at the "Yards"
I can’t believe the quality of their coffee!!! I’ve had the Mojito iced coffee and the Turkish. They have a huge reputation around here and I see why. The customer service is amazing and the coffee is legitimately made... one cup at a time. I didn’t get her name but the nice lady with the English accent was so patient and she recommended which coffee to get. I’d come back here every day if I lived in the area.
Great service and was quick! I had a chai tea and the cashiers trust you to tell them what you had to drink when you pay. That’s really nice but I can see how people would abuse that. It was packed when I went and there wasn’t a table in sight open, so maybe I’ll try early morning so I can sit down next time!
Great coffee. Some wait...
Great coffee. Seating can be difficult to find. I highly recommend the mint mojito coffee. Ask for it to be less sweet if you don't have a sweet tooth.
Great place to grab a coffee and do some work. Plenty of different types of seating from high top tables, to normal seating, to comfy couches. Varied menu with hot and iced coffees as well as food options. Space for groups to work and friendly staff.
Coffee is great as always but I got yelled not to take a picture when I tried to take a pic of menu. I zoomed in enough so I don't get the employees in the pic. Wasn't going to post on the internet anyways. It was meant to send to my friend so she can pick their beans. Wasn't appreciated her attitude but also I understand their frustration that some ignorant people post pics include employees faces exposed. Oh well.
Best coffee in Navy Yard
It.s very nice, specially mint flavour good!
1st impression is the last impression love so tasty coffee
Not what it used to be... We first stumbled upon Philz when we lived in Berkeley CA. It was their first expansion from the original in Sausalito. It was quirky, comfy and the coffee was amazing. I was hooked for life! Then we moved to the east coast and it wasn’t for 5 or so years before it came to DC and I was beyond pumped. The excitement faded when I walked into the establishment. It’s a glorified Starbucks: Coffee is consistent, customer service sucks, cafe area sterile. I know that for a lot of people what I described is exactly what they are looking for, and I get it. I am just nostalgic for the locally owned and community involved coffee shop. And I will stop there while I teeter on the line of hipster and salty.
Because I'm a avid coffee drinker, this place is right up my alley. They grind your choice of coffee up and brew it right on the spot. No stale or Luke warm coffee here. They have inside and outside seating. It's in the newly renovated section of Southwest d.c. informative and helpful staff. It'll be one of my choice coffee shops when the weather begins to change.
Multiple choices of coffee subdivided by roast. High quality coffee positive staff and atmosphere. Would highly recommend a visit.
The avocado egg toast is delicious! I get it almost every day :) Try the Kouign Amann too! Ask them to heat it up for you and pair it with a black coffee. It's nice and buttery!
Always a line out the door, but best chain coffee store around. The food is good as well, the philz bagel and different toast options are solid.
I love mint mojito!! And the barista was so friendly ;)
Nice ambience and comfy chairs!
Delicious coffee!! do be aware that you will only get coffee here though, not espresso drinks (lattes:, cappuccinos, etc)
Who needs fancy-Schmancy lattes when you can get a damn fine cup of drip-brew coffee? I was recently in the area and it was indeed refreshing to see a spot dedicated to making brew-to-order cups. Love the fact you get to select your beans and the staff then grind the beans and sweeten and milk-fortify your drink to your liking.
Philz makes my favorite iced mocha of any coffee place I've tried. It's more chocolatey than most without being too sweet.
Good coffee at a high price, a classic of Palo Alto. I tried The Philarmonic, which has cardamom and mint. Very balanced blend that hits all the spots on the palate, I recommend it a lot. The pastries are somewhat OK, but nothing out of this world. They have plenty of seating inside and outside, would come back.
It's Philz Coffee. What else can you say? Always good.
lt tastes great.
Iconic Silicon Valley cafe chain that deserves a visit if you're in the area. I found their ordering system extremely bizarre - you first choose your drinks, then pay for it, don't seem to receive any kind of receipt, and then go back to the original place to wait for your drinks? But it works, and the drinks are fantastic enough to be worth it! I recommend their iced coffee menu, which never disappoints on warm Peninsula days!
Like all Philz spots, excellent coffee and service. I'd rather be in the Bay, but I can't fault the staff for the location!
Simply the nicest coffee I have ever had
Rude staff, subpar coffee.
Always the best coffee from here. They make 1 cup at a time so the line can get long. Use Caviar app to order ahead of time for faster pickup.
Best coffee I've ever had in my life. Employees are excellent and friendly as well.
Absolutely love this coffee shop as they hand brew everything for you and customize it to your preferences. For example, you can ask for 1 or 2 stevia, almond milk, soy milk, other milks, or regular sugar. And the baristas are usually pretty friendly and love to have small talk. It’s a fun environment to be in and many tech folks visit this coffee shop frequently.
Five stars for the coffee. Iced mint mojito is amazing! 1 star for awful music and noise when chairs are dragged across the concrete floors. Someone needs to re-think both of those things. No music would be an improvement.
Awesome. One of the staff explained the coffees and concept, just delicious!! I am so spoiled now. Love the atmosphere as well. If you love your coffee, a must try.
This shop is for the coffee connoisseurs. A must visit of you are in the area.
Really cool coffee shop with amazing staff! My go to is the Aromatic Arabic, get you some!
Great customer service. Very knowledgeable about the coffee beans.
Favorite coffee shop in the country. Place becomes a bit of a Cheers - I walk in and everybody knows my name. Lines are long, whatever, that's what it takes to make each cup from scratch. Chill for hours, grab and go, doesn't matter. Just enjoy the coffee and come back for more.
I really enjoyed the coffee, and the avocado toast with egg was amazing.
Great place to grab a coffee and work from. The chai latte is a little watered down for my tastes... so ask them to add extra milk and make it strong (if you like it that way)
Good mood and delicious coffee
Love that fresh mint idea!!! Cool
Very friendly staffs and awesome coffee. Bit confused how to order.
No wonder this place is popular. Good coffee, fast wifi, hip crowd. I'm not a huge fan of pour overs but philz does a great job.
Yes, A great cup of Coffee and an awesome Black tea!!
Great service and delicious coffee. The atmosphere is nice as well since it has lots of space, nice decor and plenty of seating.
Terrible place. Waited over ten minutes while there were more employees than customers in the shop. Grossly overpaid for burnt coffee and a sloppy mess of jelly-globbed bread. Do yourself a favor and walk a block to Starbucks. An admittedly admirable business philosophy isn't a substitute for minimum standards in service and quality.
Long wait, but great flavors
There's a reason they have a line all day! The coffee is great and that's what they do.
Great little coffee and croissant. Definitely recommend.
I love Philz so I might be biased on my review but this place is always packed! It's very big -1 star because parking sucks call an Uber/Lyft if you live near by
The best coffee in the area.
Great customer service!! Lines can be long, but definitely worth the wait
Excellent single cup coffee. Some of the best tasting ice coffee I have ever tasted.
This place has great coffee but it takes forever and they are too committed to the pour over thing. You can't get a latte or anything except for coffee or tea. That being said, I love l of the drinks with generous fresh mint, and the vibe is nice and laid back.
The "Ecstatic" is delicious. Each cup is made individually, to order.
I've been to Philz twice now. The atmosphere and the staff are terrific. I just wish I liked the coffee. The barista let me know that they are a pour-over bar, which I appreciated so no espresso drinks. I find their coffee too bitter and acidic for my taste.
Great place to go and study for hours at a time. Lots of people study there so it helps you get in the mode. They have two large study tables and lots of bar type seating next to the window. I have the Philz iced tea every time. Philz iced tea is a strong tea with lots of real mint. I get it with 0 sugar
Love this place----stress free. Has a great vibe and staff with easy-going personalities. I like that they have healthy options. Try their yerbamate tea and energy bowl (hummus, avocado, egg) or almond and ham toast. So yum!
Oh very special coffee shop. Coffee tasted heavenly and the experience was as you were visiting a friend.
Fantastic coffee and fantastic staff. If you love pour-over, this is the place for you. I had to cut down on my visits because my wallet didn't like it, but I love that place. The staff is absolutely wonderful and the coffee is always great.
Okay first off I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but this place had changed that. I purchased the ambrosia and it was outstanding! They make the coffee by the cup right in front of you and the staff answered all my questions. I'll be returning to this place.
Rude service. We walked up to the barista and she didn’t offer to take our order. Instead they let someone else cut ahead. The only reason they get two stars is because they do have good coffee. But when you spend $6 for a coffee... treat your customers with some respect.
This is a good spot to hang out. They have WiFi electric outlets and plenty of seating. It's in a great area with even more great seating outside. I was however extremely disappointed by my chai tea. It was really just brown water with cinnamon in it. There was slimey build up in the bottoms of my cup. This was my first time at a philz coffee and I can't speak for the coffee since I do not drink coffee.
It's an acquired taste. I'm sure I'll get used to the names of the coffees in a few months.
Great coffee but crowded with students doing their homework :-)
Coffee's good but no self serve bar for cream or sugar. Bathroom?
This place is fantastic. The coffee selection is great and the service is really very good. The workers there enjoy making a good cup of coffee for an appreciative soul, and it shows. The light fare is also tasty. The atmosphere is also good. Comfortable for a conversation, a nice read, or getting some work done.
Very good coffee and baristas seemed to care and be good at their job
Very nice place! good coffee and good service.
I don't understand why it so popular that people keep standing in line (almost any time). It is not a place for "puristic" coffee or pastries, their variations don't grab my favor...
Good coffee and nice people. The only issue is that the traffic flow is a mess. It is always hard for some people to figure out where to start a line, where to order, where to pay or/and where to wait their coffee.
Good coffee, tumblers are overpriced.
Coffee and Tea selections are always good. It is also a nice place to get some work done or to have a one on one meeting.
Yummy coffee! Mint mojito is the jam
I love that they treat people who drink decaf like people who like coffee. They always have three decaf options.
The coffee here is phenomenal- and that is coming from someone who is doesn't particularly care what my coffee tastes like as long as it has caffeine. The pastries are also amazing. However- I will say that if you are trying to use this as a quiet space to take calls or read, the music is BLARING. It gets so loud that I can't hear my music in my headphones at full volume. Not a great work space for that reason.
Avocado toast is my go to here! The Turkish coffee is also great to have for a first time, kinda strong tho ;)
I loved the coffee and atmosphere of Philz Coffee shop. The options were explained well and service fast. Thank you for being a gem near the Navy Yard.
Great selection, fresh and excellent service. After selecting your custom coffee, a taste test is offered so the drink is truly as you want it. Indoor and outdoor seating is provided in pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
very nice place!
Don't come here on a time crunch. I think it's a combination of the ordering process, the small waiting area and its popularity that boosts the wait time. I like to go after lunch around 1-2 pm. Everyone's obsessed with the mint mojito, and it's definitely good, but I recommend the ginger snap above all. The ecstatic is great too if you're in the mood for a standard iced coffee.
Amazing coffee made one cup at a time. Their staff is always looking out and making sure that my coffee is absolutely perfect. Philtered Soul is my go-to and I'm never disappointed.
First timer at Philz and it was damn good coffee. Brewed for each customer and the taste was so smooth. I had the mint mojito iced coffee.
Very good coffee done in a very professional manner. Everything they make is of the highest quality and if you don't know what you want they will help you figure out what You would like. This is not a Starbucks wanna be. Just very good coffee prepared very well
Amazing! All coffees are personal pour overs. Service was excellent. Understood that you can't ramp this fast and still maintain quality, but will look forward to expansion beyond D.C. and California
Our favorite, go-to place for coffee every weekend! Super friendly service, and they always oblige to adjust the taste. Their snacks/ meals are great too for a quick bite.
Great coffee, sour attitudes. Asking simple question about menus lead to snappy replies and degrading tones.
I love Philz! The coffee is delicious and their customer service is superb. I don't live close by but whenever I'm in the area, I always treat myself to Philz.
My favorite coffee shop in the Bay area bar none. The Mocha Tessora and New Manhattan will knock your socks off. Also get a vegan Pebbles donut if they have any left. ( Trust me and it's more like a cake donut )
The most perfect cup of coffee in the world. I lived in San Fran for a while and really missed Philz when I moved to MD. It was worth the 45 minute drive to DC everytime. The cinnamon toast is delicious but overpriced.
Great coffee, very cold inside, WiFi is spotty
Very friendly and fast pace! I had never been before and there was a line out the door. I waited in line for only 5 minutes then they called me to the counter. I told the barista I had never been there before. She took a minute to kindly explain how it worked and made a suggestion for me after asking what I usually like. She did it in a friendly, but fast way and directed me to the cashier. After I paid she called out my order and let me try it first before I left in case I wanted to add anything sugar or milk which she happily adjusted. They are friendly and super fast. Know what they're doing to serve as many customers as they can to help them move on about their day with their coffee. The coffee was good too. Nothing fancy, just simple brewed coffee with the different flavored roasts, no flavored syrups, only sugar and milk if desired.
Good coffee. Seasonal flavors are great as well. Very cozy and nice place to kill time with laptops. Gingersnap is really good. Rose Latte too!
Lots of spots to sit and sip right by Navy Yard's best restaurants and scenic riverfront.
We were visiting the African American museum as we do every year. This place was recommended by our hotel 30 minutes away and I see why. "Erika from California" was amazing from the time I walked in until I left. Everyone knew her and she was extremely personable, I didn't want to leave. The coffee was authentic, the food was exotic and staff was engaging. Perfect storm... this place is a MUST TRY!
Mint mojito is an absolute must. Amazing coffee!
Free wifi, good coffee and nice ambiance. Baristas were friendly and polite
Can be confusing your first time there, but don't worry! There's a line forming from the south door for coffee. Wait for a barista to call the next person, then you can discuss what you're looking for. They are all knowledgeable so you don't have to bark out your order and get out of the way; just tell them what coffee you like! After ordering, head to the cashier line (which is also food line). The food line is near the east door and you can skip the coffee line if you only want food. They have pastries, bagels, avo toast, and other things that pair well with coffee.
Overrated: Coffee was Okay. Crowds Made It Impossible to Chill Ordered a ginger snaps which was quite nice. Friend didn't enjoy his brew of the month and left it almost untouched. The place is teeming with people. I guess some people like the buzz and hence the reviews. Older people like me didn't appreciate the crowd quite as much.
This place is great coffee and the people are friendly to talk to.... You only have a few hipsters at this third wave coffee shop.
Never been to one before.. the coffee was good, selection was good, I got there strongest brew and I found out they do like individual brews per cup. That's pretty awesome if you ask me! The coffee was extremely strong, I loved it.
Great coffee spot
Great variety of drinks. Very unique. Atmosphere. Banana date smoothie could be a bit sweeter.
Very laid back atmosphere. Great coffee and friendly staff.
Simply great coffee at this full service coffee shop. Your experience is unlike any other. Relaxed. Popular. Customer-focused.
Very helpful and welcoming. I had a large order and they were patient and took time to explain what was what to help me better understand since it was my first time at the establishment.
Large variety of specialty coffees and coffee drinks. However, they do not do espresso drinks in the store, only pour over coffees. I was not super impressed with the Tesora blend. I found the acidity overpowering. But I've heard that many of their other blends are excellent.
Always enjoy getting a coffee Philz and this place is pretty unique. The staff is super friendly as always and my tesoro Phil's way was delicious. It's a great place to sit and read a book while you wait for your kid to ref a hockey game at the nearby rink. The music is just a little bit loud for my taste but otherwise a great place to get a coffee and read a book.
As seen in Silicon Valley, this Philz Is the iconic peninsula Philz. You never know who you'll run into! A good amount of seating and pretty fast internet! That staff is always pretty chill too!
This was probably the best coffee I've ever had. Starbucks can't hold a candle to it. Mind you I said coffee, not a dessert coffee drink.
Really great coffee. Very cool spot away from downtown.
Yummy coffee but be prepared to wait in line.
Super friendly service and the outdoor seating is great!
Based on Google, it closes at 2pm, but when we get there at 1:02, it says it's closed. Very annoying incorrect holiday hour info. May sure you check the hours before you go. It took me all the way from Chicago for this "famous" coffee shop, but only finds disappointment.
Fantastic cup of delicious coffee! Brewing one cup at a time is the way to go to maximize flavor. Well worth the wait!
Great Place! Excellent Tea! Great Coustomer Service!!..
REALLY Good coffee! - Only down side is there's often no seating.
Good place to get crafted coffee and tea then hang out.
Luv luv luv this place. Especially the espresso ❤️
Great place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Clean, modern coffeeshop. I love that they have so many roasts to choose from—a coffee lover’s paradise!
Good pour over coffee. Plenty of natural light due to large windows, so its a good location for reading and people watching. In the new trendy Navy Yards section of DC. Could use a litle more table space in the facility, especially for those trying to get work don.
Didn't like it at first, but it's a fun place to get very good coffee with a large variety of roasts. As an occasional treat (it's expensive), it's great.
Don't go if you don't have a job. Lol. Seriously though gr8 coffee and tres cool staff
Recommended by a friend. Great coffee spot. They have a very unique way of making coffee. Made for you only. Staff members were very friendly. Although one suggestion would be if they have a custom made for you option that allows us to choose beans plus condiments.. I wanted to try the dark roast coffee but I did not like any of the ingredients. But otherwise I liked it and will definitely visit again when I am in the area!
Every time I come to Palo Alto I come to Philz. The variety of roasts and coffees is almost dizzying, but they are all carefully prepared and delicious. Try getting your coffee "Philz Way" which has a little sweetness, cream and mint. You'll never go back!
Quaint spot with consistently delicious coffee and baked goods
such good coffee but definitely order online to avoid the wait
Great place for coffee and cozy environment to get some studying or work done. It does get crowded so be aware of that. Would recommend the mint mojito!
Love coming to this location. I get a iced white Christmas and they do such a good job. Cool spot that you have to check out.
Great Coffee
Coffee - 5/5 Service 3/5 Price 2/5 Environment 4/5 Awesome place, excellent coffee. Staff is OK, not the friendliest. One would think if you pay almost $6 for a cup of regular coffee that should be fixed. Other than that, love it
Very kind and outgoing staff. A very positive place to sip coffee and spin up an hour of work.
Very good and fun! I had the mojito something or the other :)
This my favorite coffee spot in the District. It's always a happy place. The coffee is fantastic.
Good pour overs, but don't expect espresso or lattes. Friendly service, nice place to grab a coffee and pastry after dinner
I can't overstate how much I love the coffee from Philz. It was my favorite back when I lived in CA and it's completely amazing that it's here in D.C. The service, atmosphere, and (of course) the coffee are consistently excellent. Their menu has a ton of variety and even list the flavor notes of each of their blends.
The food is amazing.
Best coffee! Great staff! Love starting my day here... Iced New Manhattan is my favorite!
Philz never disappoints. This place got the same great coffee and atmosphere as all other locations, but it seems to be a bit larger and has more seating.
Stumbled on to this little shop while exploring. I asked for a latte and she asked if this were my first time there! How could you tell? She said she could make a pour over coffee better than a latte. She was right! Fantastic coffee!
Philz is great. The lines aren't too long and the coffee is wonderful.
im obsessed with philz. the crowd is always a weird of tech bros and high school girls but the coffee is so good it's worth it. ive never been able to make coffee as good as philz
Great service and fresh brewed coffee. I'll have to stop back soon to try their food.
Great place to work from if you're in the area - awesome coffees and super friendly staff
The coffee is the star of the show --no lattes, or other espresso beverages. However, this is coffee made to order, tenderly, and freshly ground. It's a coffee lover's paradise. Also, don't miss the avocado toast!
The barista who served us was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave us a lot of information about Philz, and also recommended specific coffees for our tastes. In the end, she actually made us a couple of drinks to try, and said they were both on the house, which was very surprising and generous! We left a substantial tip, and will definitely come back!
Coffee is pretty good and service fantastic 5/5 but there isn’t a bathroom and I gotta pee and poop real bad 1/5 So average of 3/5
I always love philz, at this point I've left 5 star reviews at like 5 of their locations, and I don't even like coffee... Great place to get work done! Update to add this photo + tip: if you somehow don't finish it and bring it home, a good way to know when a mobile order has been microwaved for long enough is if the label starts blackening it's hot! (side note:if your microwave explodes please don't blame me)
Philz staff are attentive and helpful making recommendations. A great spot for morning coffee.
Nice coffee nice tea, friendly staff and friendly people. Can’t go wrong when you need a nice cup of brew. Crowded most of the time, so this is not for those looking for a quiet coffee time.
Meh, overrated.
Super busy, be very helpful staff and awesome coffee.
Philz... Amazing coffee. Out of the box selections. Drink coffee next to the founder of the next billion dollar start up... Likely spending their last $5 on a cup of coffee to just get the product out! Thanks Philz for fueling the valley.
Came here while visiting a friend, the staff were really nice and patient with me. After all my confusion, they gave me a great cup of coffee!
Probably the best pour over coffee I’ve ever had. There are a lot of coffee choices on the menu so try to figure out what you want well in advance of coming to the counter.
Delicious....get the mint mojito!
Wish they had a Philz in NYC - love this place!
Best coffee and service there is.
Great coffee but pricey.
I really used to love coming here, for some reason it has lost the warmth. Painted over the awesome mural, and staff doesn't seem too concerned with customer service. The barista who helped me refused to greet me...instead she kept saying "What can I get?" "What can I get?" ...Really? What happened to "Good Morning!, Hello!", or even making eye contact with your guest?
Bring a canoe paddle to get past all the tech hipster wannabes.
Their House Mojito coffee is so damn good.
Oh a joy. Their Green Tea, Herbal Tea with honey is heavenly
The coffee is amazing, love the rotating artwork, and when it is raining I never end up in a line outside
really good coffee. different than Starbucks. bunch of different blends
