Great food, cozy setting, and awesome waitresses. Try the chicken pie turnover!
Good food decent prices. Nice historic atmosphere inside but it was just as cool as the snow outside
Good food, large portions for the hungry man in your life
Extremely crowded. 20 tables packed into a 25'x25' room. The wait was 25 minutes. Only one functional bathroom. The staff was not super friendly, just want to turn the tables. I had the apple burger, it was ok. The chicken pie turnover was pretty good... smothered in gravy. We were excited for the pie. It was good, not the best.
Burgers and pie were great!
Food was excellent! We had the Chicken Pie Turnover and the Hot Open Faced Meatloaf, both were very tasty, just like home cooked meals. The staff wasn't the friendliest but we were very well attended to. The seating arrangement could be better, it's a bit crowded in the center. But the food makes up for any of the minor negatives!
Very nice place to have many kind of Foods and Beers
I enjoyed the cafe omelette, the home fries are really good. Service was friendly and quick. Tasty breakfast for a good price. Decor is a bit kitschy cowboy theme. Overall a pleasant experience.
The food and the service were excellent and the history behind this place makes it a gem. There happened to be a lot of wind when we were in town and the electricity went out st the cafe. Even with the power out, they got our food out quicker than I expected and even went around and lit candles all around the restaurant that so it was hardly noticeable. And even though they had to run credit cards manually they did it so quickly we really didn't get held up. We really expected to be there for a while after the power went out but the staff was all so great they didnt miss a beat.
This morning breakfast was not a good experience. Egg breakfast was good, Biscuits and gravy was fair. Service was HORRIBLE!!!!Restaurant had only three tables yet waitress did not check on us once after food was delivered. That being said coffee was refilled once by busser. Waitress never came by. I wanted a straw for water and needed another napkin. She never came by to ask if food was okay . I have been done eating for 25 minutes and have am still waiting for check. I can ask but since I am not in a hurry I will see how long it takes her to come back. I am tempted to leave, but I am not like that. I ate so I need to pay for food.
Amazing food! Amazing customer service! Love that this place is Christian, loved finding the Bible verses
Excellent food and service
We drive here just to eat lunch!! Unbeatable food and...the pie is fabulotastic!!
Good food. Service is a bit slow, but I would guess that it could be hard to staff correctly. There was more help a few weeks ago while the wild flowers were in full bloom. Just sit back and enjoy your visit.
If you are looking for a hearty breakfast, this is the place. The food was excellent, the portions ample, the service friendly and helpful, and and the decor is true to the spirit of an old west mining town. Although not sampled, the selection of jams and syrups and relishes was quite enticing. Please note that the front entrance is not ADA compatible, and it is not clear if there is a back or side entrance that would be. The steps however are wide and possible for those with mobility challenges if taken slowly and carefully. A handrail would really be a good addition.
Great made from scratch meals. Breakfast is my favorite pie is good too
The food is good and the servers are kind but the pie is definitely the highlight
Oooof. I was in the area and ducked in here to grab a little coffee for the drive home. I headed back to the bathroom which was locked, so I waited. An employee approached and started BANGING on the door, looking for a coworker, decided she wasn't in there and then left. As soon as she did, the customer who was in there opens the door and glares at me, thinking (not unfairly) that I was the one trying to break into the restroom while she was trying to wee. Great. Service was less than friendly, and everything was excessively sweet. Like, saturated with sugar to hide the fact that the food was devoid of flavor. The drinks were super messy and arrived with half of the stuff on top already coursing down the sides, including the handle. Definitely won't return.
This place was absolutely phenomenal! I am Texas born and raised and this place definitely reminded me of Texas! The food is incredible and the service was great. The vibe is so warming and the setting was very comfortable. Makes you feel like you’re at your grandma’s house. Definitely worth coming back again!
Very small place sometimes waiting 4 table , excellent food great service
Great customer service. Pies are delicious. Freshly made and warm.
family type of business good food good service
Portions are huge, but soooo good! Go hungry!!
Best apple pie
This place was so cute! It was really small and packed but it still worked. All the staff were super friendly and made the experience even better. The food was beyond good!! We even had a pie to go and it was amazing. I highly recommend this place!
Excellent food great service.......go spend the day here.....
Had a great lunch. Reasonable prices.
Great food and staff.
Wow! Great food and portion size!! So fresh and delicious we can't wait to go back!
Great food and service
Nice cafe in the town of Julian. Great apple pie. A must eat! To get there the roads are excellent for bikers. Local Craftsman sell souvenirs which might be interesting for one or the other souvenir hunters
Good food and nice service
Amazing pies. Amazing customer service. The weather was beautiful
Good place, good food, good service. it can get a little crowded in there but that goes for all the small cafes in Julian. The servers are very attentive and the food is very good with large portions. The pie is great and they put an unbelievably large chunk of ice cream on top of it when requested. I really enjoyed my time at the Julian Cafe and I recommend it highly.
Quirky place, love all the old stuff hanging about, great food and good service
Great experience. Food is very delicious and service is friendly. Lucas was very helpful and recommended for me an amazing choice of hot applesider and the Impossible burger (since I am a Vegetarian). I enjoyed all as it was super yummy and fresh! Will be back for sure!
The cream of broccoli is homemade very good, just a dash to much salt
Best meal in Julian! Fresh and home cooked! Fresh trout. Fresh homemade mashed potatoes and delicious fresh sauteed vegetables. OMG the warm apple crisp is to die for!!
Good food, generous portions, friendly service. Great old time atmosphere. VERY nice.
Nice place that can get pretty busy. The staff was good though. I didn't like that it wasn't obvious that this is a breakfast only place. I felt obligated to stay though since I had already sat down. The food was pretty good, some would prefer more salt, but I was glad there wasn't much in the biscuits and gravy. If you are a fan of Breakfast food, you will love it, huge portions. I just am not a fan of Breakfast food, so only 3 stars.
Look!!!!!! I'm telling you go to "APPLE PIE ALLEY" Jillian pie company is NOT the Best. APA IS on the main drag as ALL other shops (LITTLE PLACE) Customer service is STUPID, CRAZY, PHENOMENAL, GOOD. Pecan Apple pie is my Favorite. Nothing wrong with the Blueberry, Regular Apple Etc......
Great food and atmosphere. Wonderful service.
Tried the chicken and waffles no flavor, house potatoes no flavor just how they came out from the fryer were serve to the plate plain, tasteless...but big portions and good service.
I order the French toast and if the picture does it any Justice you will understand when I say it's one of the best French toast plates I have ever had.
Always a great meal with friendly service. Portions are very generous and flavorful. Great piece of Julian history
First time in this place and
If that is from scratch then it must mean mediocre American cuisine. Truly not good. A dry barely warm burger on an equally dry bun, a few pieces of tomato, a slice of sort of melted processed Swiss cheese and an Ortega chilli. Fries with some weird spicing. Now for the soggy Chicken turnover, it was cold, the gravy, if you could call it that, out of a packet(?) was congealed on the top of it with a side of cold vegetables. No sense in sending it back to the microwave it came from. Too scared to eat the pie after that horrible meal. Couple next to us was pushing the food around on their plate as well, no, don't want that to go I heard her say. What is wrong with these places???? On top of that the bad country music was enough to make one open their wrists.
Had someone who we thought was going to be our server come up right away with coffee. My husband only drinks decafe. She said ok, I'll get the decafe. Never came back. I had to raise my hand to get the attention of another server after about 10 mins maybe more. Come to find out she was going to be our server not the other girl. Food was nothing to write home about at all! Ordered the Ranch Breakfast. Eggs were scrambled so HARD the cheese didn't even help them and the pancakes were hard on the outside and dry on the inside. It was very disappointing.
Great fried chicken!!
Best breakfast in Julian, CA! On a Friday morning, the town was empty and the Julian Cafe was packed. It's service and selection of food preceeds it's local reputation as as a local favorite. I highly recommend it!
The Staff were friendly and I gave the 5stars just for that. also many delicious options to choose from
everything was delicious! vegetarian options available! EXCELLENT PIE!!!
Great place! Denver omelette and french toast were really Awesome. Our waitress was super nice! Parking is teeny tiny..the place gets packed for breakfast.
Had a burger and fries and coffee. It was delish!!! They also sell some amazing smelling candles for a good price! They also sell some amazing looking pie!
Good impossible burger. But expensive. $60 for 2 burgers and beers. Honestly the most I've ever spent on lunch
Great breakfast place.
It's a drive to get here but it was so worth it! Food was incredible. Service good and very cozy atmosphere. You must try the pie! Pie was delicious. We also had apple crisp with ice cream. Would drive up the mountain again just for that.
Great food that tasted like homemade, Friendly service, neat old atmosphere in a historic town. We shared the chicken pot pie and the apple boysenberry pie was also good.
Like many of these places here in Julian once you step inside off the street you are smack dab right back in the middle of old-times. Cool decor and a warm welcome feeling. Excellent service, the food was great, and yes... the decor was fun to look at while dining.
great service good food
Friendly staff and pretty good food, but the place is always freezing inside. After asking the waitress to do something about the temperature, it just got colder inside. Finally, we had to leave without finishing our dinner because my wife was practically frostbitten. As we were leaving, she said she would never go back again. It's a shame, because this was always our go-to restaurant whenever we visited Julian. But it is always so darn cold in there and there's really no good reason for it. The place is a gold mine. It is always packed. Take some of those profits and fix the heater and insulation! Your customers deserve it.
Big food hope your hungry
It's good for lunch, breakfast no!
Super cute Cafe! Their waffles are amazing. Their outdoor seating is nice. They have a cute little outdoor garden area nearby that is fun to walk through.
Always a great place to go get a great meal and apple pie....
Great food and service !
The food was delicious. Ordered the fried chicken, fries, abd slaw. Very good. Expect to wait awhile (30min or so). Well worth it! People are friendly and pleasant.
Rustic diner with a lot of history. Huge pancakes and cinnamon rolls. Check out the pull-chain toilets.
The wait for a table was about 8 minutes. However, the wait for the food was more like 30 minutes. Not sure what took so long, the restaurant is tiny, holds maybe 50 patrons. There were 3 cooks in the back, one hostess and 3 waiters. Food was good once we got it. Place was not so clean. Just a fair experience for "historic" Julian.
Food wasn't the best, service was just 'ok.' We visited this location on a Sunday for lunch. We had a 20 minute wait. Resturant was VERY small. Had almost no room for our 6 month old's stroller I got a burger. Meat was overcooked, and the bun was rock hard. Also got a side of onion rings for $4. Probably the weirdest onion rings I've ever had. Taste was okay, but they were huge slices of onion, and only had a little amount of batter on them. The batter was very pale, and not the best. My husband had a patty melt. He said it wasn't good, and tasted like typical cafeteria food. My mom ordered a BLT on white bread. She recieved wheat bread instead. She said the bread was also rock hard. Our waiter never brought me my water I ordered also. There are a lot of places to eat around here, so next time we will choose better. Just not impressed it all with the food and service here.
My apple pie was so delicious that it transported me right back to Grandma's Kitchen 50 years ago. The apples were juicy not overcook, not too sweet, and the pastry crust was also the perfect thickness. Of course I went with the vanilla ice cream and was quite pleased with my selection followed by a cup of wonderful hot coffee
Old school town just beautifull
Friendly staff and good food.
Always a good stop.
We had a very enjoyable lunch after about a 10 minute wait...Tuesday lunchtime. Ordered an outstanding burger with grilled onions & feta with the best fries I've had since being in Cali. After walking around town we came back for Apple pie. DELICIOUS! Servers were very polite & attentive. Very rustic decor with lots of extras like jams etc. to add to the tab.
The apple Pumpkin pie was delicious. Also they get extra points for being open later than other businesses in town.
Best onion rings on earth. Very good food, plentiful portions & very good service.
When in julian, you must eat apple pie. This is an excellent place to do that.
A place away from home. Friendly and yes there is a wait but it's worth it :)
Such a quaint, lovely place that I can always trust will leave me satisfied. Their pie and ice cream is delicious but so are their burgers and other deserts. The staff is always so nice and attentive. This is definitely the place to go to have your morning coffee or perhaps after your week long camping trip (such as mine) I've been coming to this place for almost two years, despite moving back and forth between states. 6/5★
Brings back memories apple pie and good food
Was there for breakfast. A little more expensive than IHOP or other chain restaurants but 3x better. Everything tasted homemade. Omelettes were light and fluffy. French toast was thick and had cinnamon sugar. The breakfast potatoes had the skins on and fried just enough to be crispy and still retain so much potato flavor. We were all quite full after the meal. Inside the decor is a western theme and waitresses were very attentive.
Great food and apple pie
Ordered fish & chips on a Friday nite- with restaurant about half full. Got our salad and drinks fairly quick but waited over 45 min to get our fish (no fries) which was 3 small pieces on a plate covered with lettuce. Chips came just as we finished our fish. They were pretty good, but too little too late! Won't be going back. Update: I have to give the owner credit. They responded to this review quickly and offered a free meal to make it up to us. Thank you.
Love this place! Try the Apple Salad or Apple Burger. Plus great chicken pot pie and whole pies for sale. They have a selection of great candles plus some seasonal decor for sale as well as Julian Cafe goods...mugs, glasses, jams etc.
They just start serving a new beef hamburger that IS THE BEST BURGER I have ever had. Have been going there for 20 plus years, always been very happy with the food and service is excellent.
Food was unbelievable. Apple Boysenberry pie a la mode was huge and tasty. BLT had thick crispy bacon and added a fried egg and extra piece of toast like mom used to make and it was better than mom's. French fries were nice and crispy too, not limp. I was stuffed. They nailed everything. Definitely going back when in the area.
The food was very salty..... The atmosphere was cool though. It was worth going there once.
Loved it here. Our first time. Really great breakfast. It looks like it can get crowded, but give it a shot.
It says bakery but its a full menu restaurant. Good, homemade style food. It was packed at the lunch time. Would visit again
First time here, very interesting especially about there Pie policy. Tried the Julian Apple Burger and I do recommend to try it. The place is clean and fits with the theme of the town
The Julian Apple pie is my favorite when I am in the Descanso/Julian area. Tastes like old fashion ple from another era.
Try the BBQ sandwich it was very tasty.
I absolutely love this place! Food is great and staff is amazing! I am not good with names but I think my servers name is Morgan and she is an amazing server and really nice person! I am a regular and my kids love going with me for dinner. I highly recommend going there and the whole menu is great, I haven't ordered anything I didnt like.
Go to place for full fat breakfast. Get the cinnamon french toast, holy cow is it awesome.
The APPLE PIE is amazing with vanilla ice cream. Have some or a lot .
Now this is a proper breakfast Low cost too
Decent food at reasonable prices.
We love the charm of this cozy restaurant. It is always on the busier side and be prepared to wait a little to be seated. Their menu is awesome .. Ofcourse they have the famous julian pies and some good vegeterian food options as well.. other than the long wait , it was an enjoyable experience over all..
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. I'm glad that some places are open so I can take our family and enjoy a nice meal together while we are on the road and enjoy some delicious food. One tip, if you go on Thanksgiving you can probably just order the kids meal size for everyone they are huge plates and nobody ate all of it. The kids meal were a lot even for my 13 yr old son. We had the apple crisp pie it was delicious. The only reason I gave them 4 stars was the bathroom cleanliness. The soap dispenser wasn't working well and the floor was gross. The egg nog was delicious.
Great pie and ice cream, in a quiet country diner setting.
Love this place. Yummy
The dinner meal was substantial and hardy. Nice country western atmosphere. The apple pie is to die for!!
The food was very good. Fun atmosphere and greats service made it a good experience. I would eat here again :-)
Food is good Apple walnut pancake was really good, cinnamon roll French toast was yummy and they were very accepting to modifying orders
Seated us right away....biscuits and gravy were great...Tammy made sure our coffee cups were full....very warm inside nice reprieve from the snow.
Good home cooked food, fill you up style. Apple pie the best
Luv this small town food was awesome prices are perfect
Food is okay. I asked burger medium rear, but it was medium well. Interior is nice, in Western theme.
Excellent service!, food good too.
Very quaint. Great food. Get the apple crumble. Its amazing.
For Father's day we got the boysenberry apple crumb pie and split it 7 ways and there wasn't a crumb left. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even split the coffee that we planned to share.
Will Definately go back!!
Great food, great service and good price. Would definitely return.
Great place, great food, reasonable wait, good service - will definitely be back. Anyone complaining about wait times or show service just needs to reset their expectations. This is a quaint restaurant in a small town, just enjoy the pace, the people and the great food - also, order your pie first!
It was ok, I think we just orderd wrong. Every one around us got these big tasty looking Burgers. We should have ordered that! Staff was fast and friendly!
Great food and service, I'll be back
Stopped by for a snack before going on the mine tour. Had a bowl of chili and my wife had the tortilla soup. Both were very tasry and the service was great. Of course had pie for for dessert. Would definately go again.
Bit on the pricey side, but such a fun place, and good food it makes it worth it.
Great experience. Fried chicken was very good.
Everything including service was really good! A must go place in Julian! Try the cold apple cider!
Such a beautiful group of people. The setting was breathtaking and the prices were easy on the wallet
Awesome atmosphere, great food, decent service, and good prices.
An old and cozy gateaway...historic in its own way
Love their Saturday and Sunday brunch, especially the omlets.
Home style food. Reasonable $. Cozy and quaint. Friendly.
Service was great and good food
Julian Cafe was the Bomb. The portions are huge. So go with an appetite. Employees are nice and ready to serve you. Enjoy!
Favorite ♥️
Good home cooked food. Comfortable old time feel. Amazing Apple Pie!
My apple pie was perfect. Not too sweet in the crust was thin and Flaky. The coffee was perfect temperature and I love the feeling of sitting in Grandma's Kitchen
The pies, always the delicious pies
A little on the pricey side for a small cafe but had some great food with awesome customer experience. A good little stop if you’re in the area.
A very sweet (excuse the pun) and quaint spot
Real nice, was busy but still got in and served in good time.
The most incredibly delicious clam chowder I have ever had! It was full of totally fresh ingredients cooked to perfection! Worth a visit just for that, but that what came with a terrifically tasty chicken turnover. All so wonderful!
Nice atmosphere. Food was super salty. Probably the worst meal I've ever had.
Great service and food and open till 7:00 P.M
Great food and atmosphere. Worth going and the pies are great
An old style place, great pies and coffee. Love coming here, my husband's and my favorite place in Julian.
Good food! Large portions, cute country charm.
Good food and plenty of it. Our waitress Sarah was terrific. The prices were reasonable. Gotta do the onion rings!!!
Overall atmosphere was nice, service was nice but food needed a little more taste.
Excellent breakfast in thanksgiving morning 2018 when we were camping and it was just to cold and rainy to make breakfast. So happy they were open. They also had a great dinner that evening!
Friendly service, good food, rustic atmosphere.
The best ribs and that artichoke and garlic pizza omg to die for!!
The the older cashier was fairly rude to us and others. The younger lady had a nice smile and treated everyone well. The pie was great. They did run out of sandwiches at about 1: 30
Delicious food, it's always warm inside, and I love the hot chocolate! It's always packed so make sure you bring stuff to do while you wait to be seated!
Perfect place right in the middle of town to get some warm food, Apple pies and hot chocolate.
Hands down best hot chocolate and best apple pie I've ever had
Unfortunately this was the 2nd stop on trip to julian.. first one was to julian grill and that wasnt to pleasant.. came to the cafe and food was fast however ordered the prime rib med rare and came out well done.. sent it back and got another one also well done and was told that all the prime rib is over cooked and there wasnt any that wasnt well done.. so unfortunately for us the two places we have tried in julian have been not to pleasant.. we are not picky at all however if your running a resturant and the customer orders something on the menu i would expect it to be how you ordered it.
Love it - get there early, the wait is long!
Awesome food. The apple pie is a must
Great service, good breakfast
Good food and service. Small, old, interior. No omelette bar like menu online claimed. Touristy town.
Excellent fried zucchini, and the prime rib open face sandwich was the best!
Our dinner consisted of a salad and entree, but the highlight was the service and dessert. We went during a slow time, since normally the wait here is atrocious. The salad was not very good, since it only had some lettuce leaves, cabbage, carrots, cheese, and tortilla chips. The entree was ok, but the quality was lacking. The atmosphere was very rustic and old, which I was expecting, but the music was very out of date. The desserts were great and I recommend the caramel hot cider.
Food was very good service even better apple crisp dessert to die for
