The name caught my attention and so I decided to give it a shot (pun intended) and as soon as I walked inside, I could feel the ambiance and knew this was exactly what I was looking for in a coffee shop. Outside looked a little bleak and made it look empty (probably just because it was raining heavily), but when I got closer I could easily see people inside. Service was great and super friendly even though I had never been here before. Whoever served me was helpful and made me feel welcome. If you're looking for good coffee and great service, look no further than chocolate fish coffee roasters

Chocolate Fish surpasses everything I've ever had and I'm hard to please..I won't go to Starbucks, Temple, Bella Bru; I'd rather have press pot @ home.. Plus the staff is fantastic; I actually feel welcome vs. Starbucks where I feel like an inconvenience..

Excellent coffee. I'm a cold coffee fan and their flash-brew is great. Add on top really friendly knowledgeable staff that aren't snobby and good prices. Definite worth checking. NOTE: they don't have WiFi because they want people to talk. It's actually pretty nice.

Stumbled across this place while walking my dog, and I'm so glad I did. Being my first time here, the barista helped me out understand the menu (despite how simple but amazing it is) and had my latte ready in no time.Although it isn't dog friendly on the inside, they do have water bowls all around their patio, and also hand out dog treats at the counter!

I took the 1 hour tasting class. It was informative and tasty. You're given a number of coffee beans to drink. They explain the difference process of processing, geography and tastes. All for $20 and comes with a 12oz bag of beans. Parking is a little tight though.

Nice ambiance. Steam punk type of place. Not too many people around. Nice Nitro Coffee pretty smooth but has a nice kick. Management is very friendly and helpful. Nice place to come to study for a while. There are No outlets to if you are going to be using any electronic device for an extended period of time bring an extra battery.

This place is really great! Its so open and spacious for seating. Its very clean inside. I had the nitro infused coffee and it was by far the best I've ever had! This place is very good to get a cappachino or mocha. Their iced mochas are delicious! Great staff and very friendly. It has an industrial feel but also cozy. The coffee is a little on the expensive side, like 4 to 5 dollars. Their menu is great. They play good music and it's warm in here for the winter time. Overall it was a great experience. I definitely recommend coming here if you like coffee that's not on a unique pallete. They also serve pastries.

They had me at the free sample nitro coffee. Talk about smoothness in coffee and a drink that would wake you up. . Love how they 4 laid back chairs but the entrance. Those chairs are comfy to sit in, but when its time to go its hard to get up out of it. lol .... The table they have by the window is perfect for some coffee porn but the chairs are so dang heavy i thought i was tripping for a sec, for sure it is sturdy. I also like the counter they have by the roaster, a little more privacy and more quiet to do some studying. Latte - i love ordering these drinks because of the latte art. lol The flavor of the latte definitely has a roasted taste to it. . Nitro coffee is one of my fav. Its like a morning beer. Pour like a beer. Looks like a beer. Drink it like a beer. But its coffee at the end. Its amazing and one of my to go to when i need a cold one after some flower shopping or in the area. . Overall they have a parking lot but small and usually packed on Sundays when i come here. Additional parking on the side of the neighborhood. The Service is great. So, I got a pour over Ethiopian roast. Not very flavorful as in complex flavors. Also, seemed watered down. Maybe they need to use a couple more scoops of coffee when pouring over. Don't know. Just know I paid $4 for a small cup of average coffee. Environment nice and bright. Old Soul coffee is my favorite. Temple next down. Shady Coffee next. Maybe this would go below Insight Coffee. I was definitely disappointed...Follow up, gave them one more chance at the behest of a friend, ordered the exact same thing and this time it was excellent. Barista said last time must have been a fluke. So, will try again but I hope these flukes don't happen often.

I don't like this whole review system, but I'm not sure how to send a message to your business otherwise. Your coffee is great! But the lack of outlets and wifi is disappointing, making it a second or third choice place to study. (And I don't think borrowing wifi from the place next door is the best of solutions). The medical school is just around the corner, and I bet tons of student would stop by if you made this location a little more tech friendly! I'm very happy to remove or upgrade this review if the message gets to the owner. Hope to see upgrades in the future!

I don't know where they find these amazing cashiers/servers but all of them I encountered have been so polite. You don't see this everywhere! Their hiring is on point!

While the coffee is decent they seem to go out of there way to make the environment as inhospitable as possible. They offer no wifi, no toaster/microwave to heat up pastries, and no discount on coffee refills (aka you have to buy a whole new $3 cup even if you have a mug and are onsite.) To top it off they are grinding coffee loudly in the store.

Nitro brew coffee is overly acidic and lacks a body and flavor that I personally appreciate. Chairs are hard and not comfortable. The general layout is not very inviting, it feels like i am in a soviet military base coffee shop. NO WIFI and NO CHARGERS. Place is very empty so it echos too much and therefore it is not a good place to study. So... there ya go.

I cannot find a place with coffee as good or as complex as Chocolate Fish's, and they always have new coffees to keep me coming back. However, their indoor seating could use some work.

I rate places from a remote work perspective. I am really sorry to give this place a poor review, but it really lacked in everything. The place overall is very nice and would be a great place to catch up with a friend but there are no outlets and no wifi available at this location (all public wifis available were very spotty). I tried a macchiato here and unfortunately it was very acidic -- more than you would expect for a place that specializes in coffee. The staff were extremely nice though.

This place is amazing. I bike past it every morning to work, but it's always closed during that hour. I was excited to see them at the downtown may is bike fest the past two years where they support bikers and offer the best cold brew coffee I've ever tasted. I've even bought a bike jersey and bib shorts this year and honestly fits more comfortable than all my other biking shorts and jerseys. I can't believe I have been biking their jersey all year but never officially visited until today. Did a coffee date with the wife and was greeted by the sweetest lady at the register. She was so helpful, honestly it felt more like meeting family. Not only was the service first class, the coffee was hands down the best cup I've had all year. They also have a area where you can buy gifts for the holidays. They had a nice biking water bottle that I'm definitely going back for. Can't wait to go back for another cup of coffee!

Coffee was great, just wish I knew there was no WiFi or outlets before coming here. The explanation I got from the workers was that this place was designed for socializing but I came on my own.. so, yea. Seems like a hot spot for older folks. Great place to go out on a date if you can get past the smell of burnt-ness, which is probably from the coffee roasting (really cool idea though, maybe a glass screened window would solve this or just better ventilation). All in all, highly recommended but I will personally go to the other location next time if I’m working or studying. Will keep this place in mind for group outings. -Eric

Compared to Starbucks Nitro it was a bit fruitier, more acidic and not as smooth (more fizzy). Probably best to ask for a taste before you buy a whole cup. I’m excited to give it another shot with their espressos with more chocholatey beans.

This branch of the local coffee roaster, Chocolate Fish, has been open since June (18') but unfortunately I hesitated to stop in given the tiny lot and limited residential street parking. Also, the hipster factor seemed strong, and I usually avoid that. Fortunately, I got past my trepidation and silly bias and had a relaxing visit at this location. The new interior is very modern and clean, but not in a cold way. The hand tiled counter and wood accents give it a comfortable vibe, and it is bright and cheery. The bright blue plastic chairs look uncomfortable, but were just fine for an hour visit. In front, is a small patio with umbrellas for shade. I ordered an americano - I've had their coffee several times at the Folsom Blvd location, and wanted to try the espresso. The espresso had a light roast but was strong, with no bitter or smoky notes. Delicious. Putting in a little half-and-half made it outstanding! A nice warm cup of smooth creamy coffee is always a win. They have baked goods all sugary, which look amazing, but the selection is limited - I believe I saw one vegan item. What truly won me over was the friendly demeanor of the staff: I felt lucky to walk in and be greeted with smiles and dare I say...eagerness. The baristas were young but on top of things, they hustled when it started to get busy. The manager came over to introduce himself (it was very early and he did this with all the customers) and he was enthusiastic and pleasant to talk to. Pretty cool staff! Why not 5 stars? Customer service was off the charts, but remember this is an "artisanal" coffee place so prices are high, with no discount for a refill of basic coffee. Food is limited, nothing for the health conscious. Parking is tight, try and get here very early or after the rush. And, for those who like their coffee a little sweet but dont use sugar, they do not have good alternatives like stevia, monkfruit, agave or even splenda. They only offer basic sugar and pink packets (which is saccharine and anyone who has tried it knows how disgusting it is). However, Chocolate Fish has WON me over! I will bring my own sweetener happily because the espresso is smooth as silk and staff is friendly. This location is a great place for quiet conversation or relaxing on the outdoor patio. Note: Mary's Donuts is across the street.

Bought coffee from chocolate fish at whole foods multiple times but never been to their shop. The employees know what they are doing when it comes to coffee, one of them was one of the rosters. Super nice guys and pour over Costa Rica natural process was delicious. I've been to Temple and old soul but this might be my favorite.

The East Sacramento Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters location is amazing. I always get iced coffee and unlike Starbucks, I don't have to add any sugar or cream to make it taste good. It's perfect every time. The environment is warm and inviting, it's very relaxing, almost zen-like. I haven't experienced anything like it from any of the other Specialty Coffee Shops in Sacramento.

This place is absolutely delightful. I love the atmosphere and the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Their beans are roasted on site and pulled at the perfect temperature to create a rich caramel espresso for each beverage. My husband loves their mochas and I'm an Americano fan. Both are delicious!

A modern decor coffee shop, normal selection of beverages and some new hits. The 4/5 stars is for the atmosphere, I prefer a different setting for my coffee drinking and the nitro coffee (my first try) wasnt amazing. Go there and enjoy and set your own review.
