Cheez-its, motor oil, disinfectant wipes & pie. Who needs Walmart when you have The Oark GENERAL store. Oh, and there was a really nice lady there as I ate. She stared at me often and chewed her food thoroughly. At first I thought she was messing with me and I was on a hidden camera show but nope, she smiled at me when I left. She had stickers on her helmet.
This place is definitely worth going out of your way to enjoy. The burgers are second to none, and they are quite fair on the price. I had the Texas burger, wow. Just like everybody says, save room for a slice of pie. I had the coconut cream pie. Best I've ever had!
We ( the staff aprox 8 bike's) of Mid America HarleyDavidson rode in March 2017 from Mid America Harley Davidson from Columbia, Missouri to this Amazing General Store with the Best Food in Arkansas we ever had! Great people, Very friendly, Amazing Sweet Tea, Amazing Desserts! We will ride there again this 2017 riding season, sorry for the delayed review and Thanks from All of us @ Mid America Harley Davidson!
Atmosphere, Atmosphere, Atmosphere. This is real authentic Ozark history. Big ol' burger and good french fries.
Great food
Had a GREAT cucumber salad for lunch!!! Yum
One of my greatest experience ever! We were hungry so we stoped there. No expectations. When we came in, boom! Such a nice typical place! Food taste amazing and people are super friendly. The couple beside us, paid our bill since we are "visitors from Sweden" and to "make sure we come back". Great Experience!
A "must see" in the Ozark national Forest. Good food and great pies. Friendly staff too.
Highway 23 East is a beautiful drive with spectacular views of the Mulberry River. When you get hungry and need a spot to stop and stretch your legs you can't go wrong with the Oark General Store. The place has been there since 1890 and has been turned into a cafe but it's more like an old fashioned burger joint. When you step through the door you're immediately transported back in time by the memorabilia and decor. But your senses are engaged by some of the best smells, whether it's the burgers or pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. The staff is friendly and laid back the atmosphere harkens back to a simpler time. Leave your phone and other devices in the car and stop to enjoy the good company and conversation.
Great place to grab a burger friendly faces Beautiful winding roads and National Forest Trails Treasure of the Ozarks
Best blueberry pie in the country.
love Oark General Store
Have travelled over 77miles in the last just for their burgers . Have had great experiences there till this labor day. May have been the holiday traffic caused them problems. We arrived at approximately 9:50 am yesterday. Went to order burgers , was told they don't do burgers till 10:30. OK so we decide to order breakfasts even though we came for the burgers. I ordered a number 5: 2 eggs over medium ham and biscuit and gravy. My son doesn't care for eggs but for him to get the 2 biscuits and gravy he settled for he had to order 2 eggs and sausage with the biscuits and gravy . 40 minutes later I asked a passing waitress how much longer. She told me " It'll be just a moment longer. " Finally at 11:09 our plates started arriving. With no biscuits and gravy. I asked the woman who brought them out " Don't these come with biscuits and gravy?" Was then informed that the waitress who took the order should have told us they were out of biscuits and gravy and that 4 half slices of toast were being substituted for the biscuits and gravy. Why couldn't some one come to the table and just informed us they were out of biscuits and gravy and asked if we cared to substitute something else or change our orders ? An hour and ten or more minutes and they couldn't make up a batch of biscuits and gravy? Hell at 10:30 we would have gladly changed the orders to the burgers we asked for in the first place. My son said he'll not be stopping there again. As for me , I don't know . I was sorely disappointed.
Awesome Burger and friendly staff makes for a great lunch on the way to a Razorbacks game.
If you want to go back in time when food was cooked home style with the truest of country settings then this is your place. Burgers are some of the best I've had in my 64 years of living and the pies will finish off your meal with a large taste of heaven!! My favorite is the Coconut Cream Pie and if you're not in a hurry you might even get one straight out of the oven; I did, this one almost made me want to go down to the river and take a nap on the bank, forget the fishing pole, just memories of a pie that took me back to my childhood, somewhere a long time ago in very rural south TX. This is now my monthly destination just to eat and meet the folks that took me in and made me feel like I was just another one of the gang that belongs there; no doubt I do. Go try it, you'll see!
Great food......great owners...
First time there and can say how in the world I did not know about this place sooner! Super friendly staff and amazing mouth watering food. Awesome scenery on the ride there as well. Will return soon!
The first time I went to Oark, a pig was walking down the street in front of the store. You know the food is fresh.
Best burger I ever ate
This is a great place to go eat! But only if you love a good scenic drive and an amazing burger! It’s worth going out of your way! I recommend google mapping Ponca after that and taking the dirt roads to go see the elk! The views and food are amazing!
Hamburgers are great but cheap on the sides a little pricey for what u get not worth the drive.
Good chow. Great staff except for Baily :P. Brian and Reagan are fantastic people. To know them is to be blessed. True and strong supporters of the local community. They put good ole' country soul into their food. You'll taste the difference. Oark burger barn and other so called "great local eateries" can't touch them with a ham radio on food or service. P.S. Bailey's a goof kid with a big heart. I just like to rib her.
Some guys I met at Steel Creek Campground said I'd like Oark General Store. I took an excursion to check it out. I loved the place and the staff. Only one problem: I planned to get gas there. The day before, some bloke backed into the one functional pump and knocked it out of commision. I had just enough gas to reach the nearest gas station 30 minutes away so it was not a show stopper. I stopped for an egg white omelet breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Hope they get the pump fixed soon.
My favorite place both sides of tha Mississippi! Even California folk can't get enough. Great southern charm, hospitality, and eatin'.
Been there since 1890 and the have the best food and homemade pies
Been going on motorcycle rides in the area since 2004 and this is always a must stop for a great burger and true small town Arkansas hospitality. Although the store has changed hands since I originally visited it, the new owners have perpetuated the unique character of the space.
Great burger and coconut cream pie. The pie was almost as good as momma's .
The name is misleading. It is no longer a "general store". It has transformed into a cafe. It WAS a general store for a very long time....groceries and hardware, plus it sold cold-cut sandwitches and gas and kerosene. I would not call it the oldest restaurant because for most of the time it was cold-cuts. This is the truth according to thee who knew the place at various times in history, two from an Oark class of the 1950's, one from an Oark class of the 1990's. The burgers were excelent though....and it was friendly. I missed not scrounging through the hardware looking for a bolt that my brush hog kept shearing though....
It's like you walk back in time , great food really cool place .
We took highway 16 out of Fayetteville to highway 23. Beautiful drive. Great hamburger. Had that hamburger with hand cut fries. Topped off with a piece of peach pie. My friend had the pecan pie. Everything was great! I will go back. The drive was awesome with beautiful scenery. There is no cell phone service here. It's like stepping back in time. Well worth the trip.
Very cool little place in small town Arkansas. Great pie and a wonderful atmosphere! A must see if you're in the area.
Friendly service, good cooking & a scenic drive in the Ozarks to get there - a perfect road trip destination!
Had a great day altogether. Stopped in for one of the best burgers in the state.
Don't pass this little gem. Traveling the pig trail you wouldn't pass this spot. Seek it out. Turn off on the 215.Turn left at the 103 not right. You would never stop if you were driving by. Believe me you want to stop. Awesome staff, great burgers. Corner store has been open since the early 1800's.
I love this place. Great people, good homestyle cooking. The cathead biscuits are sooo good.
What a great experience. Excellent service fantastic burger a wonderful little place to stop for lunch. Don't be fooled by the exterior nice and cozy inside and definitely worth the short wait on a Saturday afternoon.
This is just a down to earth country store. Good food and service.
Just wanted to correct part of the address listed above, The store is located in OARK, not Ozone, two totally different places. And the zip is 72852. The store has had some big changes. It was sold this month and the new owners have officially taken over. Come on out to visit us and meet our new bosses, Reagan and Brian. You will love them....bring your friends and your appetites and eat some really great food. Don't forget to have some pie for dessert.
Great place to ride or drive to for a great big burger
Best hamburger on the planet
Stopped here on a motorcycle trip. Excellent food and the service was friendly. There is no cell service here (Verizon) but they have free wifi that worked great. Dirt/gravel parking lot but it's pretty firm so parking the motorcycles was not a problem.
Amazing place. Great burgers but save room for the pie. It's all good but the apple with ice cream is the bomb. Been 3 times so far and its a must stop for us from now on. Motorcycle and ATV/UTV friendly.
Wonderful ride. Amazing burgers. The BEST buttermilk pie. Round trip ride 314 miles and will do it again.
Awesome food. Excellent service.
Awesome hamburger. Awesome pies. A must stop when in area.
Must make the trip, just do it, if for no other reason, Homemade pie. Fantastic staff, great food, and apple caramel crumb pie à la mode. Nuff said.
A great place to eat
Great homemade food and friendly service!
Probably the best burger in Arkansas. No frills, no fancy toppings and such... Just the most delicious tasting BURGER. I dont know what is done to the beef to make it taste so good. Not only this, but they provide restrooms, gas (yes, the pumps do work), and any other general item you could need. For being in the mountains, gas wasn't a terrible price either. Will definitely come back!
My oldest brother Don took a road trip there today and indicated this is a very nice and historical place to visit and must see. I look forward to going there someday.
Awesome place in the middle of nowhere. Best Caramel Apple pie ever ! I'll be back !
Delicious! Talk about a great burger... Cute little Cafe off the beaten path. Friendly staff and great food. We will definitely be back!
Nice place to stop. Everyone made us feel welcome. Great burgers and like a few others have said, save room for the pie. When I'm in the area again, I will be stopping.
My sister and I were tromping through the forest going on little 1 or 2 day hikes and while we were driving around we stopped here for a piece of pie and coffee. Honestly you couldn't find a friendlier place with better food! If you drive through you should definitely stop here and have a piece of buttermilk pie!
Great vibe, great food. Loved the way this place reflected the local culture!
Roder here on our bikes to eat. Really good burgers & great service.
Absolutely loved this place! It was a great start to our day to swing in Saturday morning for a wonderful breakfast and some fantastic service. The biscuit for the biscuits and gravy is the size of a grown man's fist, but much tastier. The bacon is thick, so if you don't like a little chew make sure to order extra crispy(don't ruin it though just eat it the way they make it, it was perfect). We enjoyed it so much we made a special trip back Sunday for lunch to have their burger. We ordered the angry hornet which came with jalapenos fresh from the garden, and boy was it tasty. I wish I lived closer so I could try the rest of their menu and come here on a regular basis.
This place has the best burgers and fries I have ever eaten in my life. And I am a burger aficionado. Very friendly staff, very laid-back atmosphere, it's a general store for goodness sake.
Awesome food and wonderful people that work there. Great atmosphere.
This is a must-see, must-stop location if you are anywhere nearby. I've been to NW Arkansas a couple of times a year for the past 4 years, and never miss stopping in here. The buttermilk pie is the stuff of legend. Other food is excellent as well. Service has always been great and friendly. I'll never miss stopping in here every time I come. More than once per trip if I can work it in.
The hamburgers were recommended, but I got there too early and had breakfast instead. The breakfast was outstanding, and the hospitality of the ladies running this place was second to none. Highly recommend stopping by for a bite whatever the time of day. This place is a TransAmerica Trail (TAT) landmark for good reason.
Today was the 2nd time we've eaten here at the Oark General Store, some of the best burgers we've ever eaten!!
Have been here several times and always have had delicious food! Just tried their breakfast. It was delicious! Great food and great service with a smile! Love this place! ❤️
Great place with a lot of history. Loved the chocolate pie. Everyone was nice.
Had an awesome experience finding and eating at the Oark General Store. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and the food was spot on. Would definitely recommend stopping in while cruising the Ozarks.
Great food, friendly staff. One of the best burger and fries ever. The homemade pies are excellent as well.
