This Coffee Shop is included in the category of Mexican restaurant.
Great cafe! Delicious marinated pork tacos. Wish I lived in Phoenix so I could return every week to work my way through their menu. Tiny bar area (3 counter seats) with very solicitous and friendly bartender. Didn't imbibe, but the margaritas coming from the bar looked great.
Everything was great. Our waiter was very helpful and never missed a beat and not overbearing either. The food had great presentation and tasted even better. The menu had plenty of selections. If I was going to say anything it would be it's to small and a little pricey but worth every cent. I will definitely be returning and recommending this place for anyone who is willing to brave the neighborhood for sure.
It was fantastic, great service, attentive and engaging. Loved the pork and steak tacos, and the dessert was unbelievable good. We will definitely go back. The restaurant has so much character, it was a pleasure to admire the art work while having lunch. Thank you Barrio Cafe for a lovely lunch.
Suzi was absolutely amazing! As soon as i stepped into the bar she made feel at home. Wow!!!! She made me feel as if i was visiting a close friend or a relative. Her level of service is rarely seen now a days. I definitely recommend this place to all! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming!
Amazing food! Simply amazing! We’ve used the pomegranate seeds on our guacamole at home ever since having the recipe at Barrio. Enchiladas - to die for. Flamenco guitar at brunch? C’mon!? Happy to have moved back to Phx for this restaurant alone. Don’t think any further, just go!
Excellent restaurant! Great food and cocktails. Friendly, efficient staff.
The food tastes great and the portion sizes are big. It's a little on the pricey side, but well worth it if you're having a lunch or dinner with friends or family. Also the horchata is to die for.
It wasn't quite what we expected as far as Mexican food. I had the pork sandwich of sorts and it was amazing!! Boyfriend thought his dish was just okay. It was a neat experience to try
Molle chilaquiles where the best!
Best thing about this place is the artwork and friendly staff. My girlfriend and I both ordered the mole pollo. Could not be more disappointed. The tortillas and cheese where hard, chewy and barely warm. Our guess is that they were pre-made and heated in a microwave. We tried to eat it but just couldn’t stomach any more the a few bites. $90 for two plates of food, corn out of a can, a watered down soda and horchata. Pure disappointment.
Good service and great food. Horchata is very tasty. Mango, tomato shrimp salad has a wonderful vinaigrette dressing. Surprisingly, the French fries are crunchy with a bit of spicy flavoring.
Some of the best Mexican food around. The guacamole is a must try!!!
Food is delicious and the service was pretty fast. The waiter made us guacamole right there at our table. The atmosphere is chill and there was a single guitar player strumming seductive sounds from his guitar very relaxing but it all comes at a price. I'd say a nice place to take a date that you're trying to impress or for maybe a anniversary or special occasion. It's a bit on the pricey side but the food and the service is definitely worth it.
Delicious chocolate cake and ice cream.
Very good food and drinks. Very busy no reservations so could be a wait. But worth it!
Molé enchiladas are amazing! Awesome staff! So sad I only JUST found this place
Food was bland and overpriced, will not go back
Live peaceful music, classy atmosphere, great local art, of course food was delicious! Guac with pomegranate? Yesss! & My Relleno Vegano was oh so good
Real deal Mexican food. Wont find chimichangas or Burritos on the menu. Food is excellent.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. If you like or are on the fence about mexican food this the place to see what mexican food can be.
This place was a little deceiving. When you approach the outside with all the graffiti and artwork you expect one thing and then walk inside to a very nice restaurant. We had guacamole and chips that was a little strange because it had pomegranate seeds in it. I wasn't a fan but my girl loved it. We also had the posole, it was the best posole I've ever eaten in my entire life.
Tasty food. Interesting art. The lunchtime crowd was very noisy and distinctly foreign to the neighborhood. The preparation and presentation are on par with the the prices (HIGH). Two for lunch without dessert, including tip: $100 dollars. If you don't like nerdy desk jockeys; avoid this place for a weekday lunch. If you don't like noise with your meal; the low ceilings and brick construction make this place to loud to hear the person across a small table. Use the back entrance in the parking area, toward the middle of the building.
EXCELLENT FOOD! The Chiles en Nogado was exceptional! Need to go back to try other menu items.
Absolutely fantastic food here. Never had a bad meal. Great folks, service, and the flavors! Wow.
We kinda stumbled onto this place but it’s super good! The food is delicious and perfect portions. The tortillas they use are corn tortillas, so naturally gluten free. It tasted great and the waiters were very nice and helpful.
Food was great! Service was great! I would definitely recommend it, you have to try cochinita pibil, it was simply delicious!
Amazing dishes. I came in from out of town I wish I could go there the next 5 nights to try something new every time. I've never tasted dishes quite like this in my life. Most of the staff have been there 15 plus years.
The food here is amazing! The combination of flavors is what is so extraordinary. Unlike any other place I've been. The service is always top notch as well. We love Barrio Cafe!
This was probably the worst service I have ever had, I have been to the barrio on 7th and it was amazing. The server never brought us water, and took forever to take our order, was catering to everyone but us.... the food took extremely quite longer then usual to come out and he was short with us and quite rude. I usually tip very well, and love this place, but I will not be coming again. The sangria was amazing though..... one great thing.
The food and staff was amazing
I wish there was a way to give more than five stars! The food was fantastic but the warmth and genuine attention of the staff is what truly stood out. <3
Menu is overpriced. No salsa, only chopped up green olives. Google menu prices are not up to date. $18 for 3 fish tacos. Nice ambience though.
The food is horrible and no flavor. Not to mention way over priced. That is not authentic mexican food at all.
It’s was the best carne Asada I’ve ever had!
This was thw highlight of our trip to Phoenix! Everything that we ordered was delicious! The margaritas were hand crafted amd not from a mix! Highly recommended!
Absolutely recommended stop. We were only in Phoenix for a night and went here for dinner and it was worth it. The restaurant is a bit small, but it feels very cozy and we didn’t have any wait on a Sunday evening. They have a decent beer selection. The guacamole was incredible. They add pomegranate seeds to the guacamole, which I had never had before, and it is absolutely delicious. The food was great too. Service was phenomenal and everyone was very friendly, making sure we were happy with everything and reacting quickly if we asked for anything. I wish I had more time to try other restaurants, but have no regrets that we have this one a shot.
This place is amazing! Very small and intimate. The service is outstanding. I had a Michelada that was out of this world. The guacamole dip was the best I have ever had. Very unique. The picture I am posting is of a local artist. I purchased it, because my wife and I got married underneath it. Really cool art work around the restaurant that is for sale. And really cool muriels on the outside of the building. This is a must go to stop if you like mexican food.
Went Friday from 3- 5 p.m. They had happy hour on drinks and $1.50 tacos. The tacos are definitely worth it. And my girlfriend had a low rider Margarita which she really enjoyed. The rest of the menu is a bit pricey, but we ordered the enchiladas suizas and they were pretty delicious. Also, had great service. Make sure to give this place a visit if you're in town.
Expensive, and the food is stylized to a regional flavor we didn’t enjoy as much, including cinnamon and other sweeter spices. Very good customer service however.
Amazing food, amazing service!!!
I went to Barrio Cafe a few years ago and I can only say that I never went back. I saw the show on TV with Guy Fierri? Not sure that’s how you spell his name. Uncomfortable seating and space plus the food and drinks for the price just didn’t go. I don’t mind spending money on food as long as it’s worth it and the variety just wasn’t there. The taste wasn’t there. The drinks were just basic and severely overpriced.
Loved! The enchiladas Suizza are outstanding! One of the best dishes I have ever had.
Our event was outstanding! My son celebrated his 10th Birthday with a few friends. They served tasty food under moderately priced restaurants in this area. Recommended !!
Way overpriced yucky food in a barren atmosphere. We tried all 3 enchilladas and all of them were awful. They were all sitting in piles of goopy poor tasting sauce to disguise what looked like something I might have cooked in my microwave. I literally had to spit out the mole one into a napkin. The "special" guacamole had nothing special about it (it is literally the same ingredients you get anywhere else with a little bit of pomegranate and just not as mashed up). Drinks were overly sweet and our waitress sounded like an annoying robot. On top of that she provided poor service and did come back to tell us they were out of something we ordered until a half hour after we ordered it (and then proceeded to defend herself). Also, we asked a staff member to take a picture of us outside the restaurant and his finger was in all 4 pictures he took. Save your money and definitely go elsewhere.
The food was only ok at best. It was no where close to as good as some reviews I’ve read. Another reason why I rated the restaurant a 1 is because of the service. From the moment our food was served, not once did any one ask how the food was or if we needed anything. I was very disappointed, and will not be returning.
My parents and I were told to go eat at Filibertos for lunch because they weren't going to serve us based on how we were dressed, which was completely normal acceptable attire. I guess we weren't "business appropriate". Never tasted the food, never going to. Horrible service.
My taste buds were in heaven the entire time. Even had me eating something that I've disliked my entire life and I loved every bit of it. I'm definitely gonna go back there and eat more of the tasty goodness
Excellent food and Margaritas! I had the enchiladas del mar; more cheese than i was expecting, but SOOO TASTY! Scallops in it were delightful. Love the artwork at this place as well, inside and out!
Amazing service and food! The entire experience from the patio to bar and then dinner was thoughtfully planned out and prepared. My thanks to the Chef and is talented staff.
Super yummy
One of the best meals I have ever experienced!!! Outstanding!
Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. Service was very good, and the food was even better. Had great live music during our lunch, too. I suggest the duck and a churro for dessert!
I really like this place. Especially the Chiles en Nogada!!!
Amazing food and great service!
Easily the best Mexican food in Phoenix. Everything is fresh. Nothing even comes close.
Great food. Fun art. Funky chic
This is a very popular place in the area. I haven't eaten here in a long time and it was ok. I had the Calabasa enchiladas without the onions. The portion was large and flavorful, corn tortillas were a little thick and slightly dry, but still good. If you are looking for Mexican food outside of traditional beans, rice, chips and salsa this will be right up your alley. Friends had other enchilada dishes that were good. A little pricey, but still a nice break from the traditional!
Visited for lunch. Food was good as well as service. Outside the building is very colorfully painted. Instead of the usual chips and salsa, you are served bread with an olive consisted paste. I think the only complaint I would have was the price. It was very expensive compared to most Mexican places.
Ehh, food was okay, service was horrible and the place is extremely small and cramped. Will never return. Do yourself a favor and go across the street on Thomas and go to Juan’s. Much better service and space.
Delicious. Beautiful presentation of food. Would like to try more on the menu so I will be back.
Skip this place if you're like me and you like to go to places alone and sit at the bar and eat. The bar I think is like 4 feet long and disgustingly crowded with dozens of people standing around you and the service is horrible because the bartender is so damn busy you can actually feel his anxiety.
Great taste, service, and 4 tacos with beer under $10 Authentic Mexican
Food is awesome. Servers are awesome.
We went here for lunch on a weekday and it was really busy. They had a ton of awards on the wall so we were very excited to try the food.I had the shrimp tacos and my fiend had the skirt steak tacos. You have a choice of a side salad or spicy fries , we both got the fries.
I like to think of Barrio Cafe more as an experience. The bread they bring you is very nice but the experience is the topping which is truly amazing. The guacamole is truly stunning, I wont spoil it but don't skip the guacamole. My tacos were very tasty and filling. Margarita is all you need.
Excellent Chile en nogada, and the guac with pomegranate is fresh and tasty
This ain't your basic burrito and nacho place. It's very original and very delicious...and friendly. Richard took excellent care of us! We all left full and happy.
Overpriced, lousy food with worse service. Table side guacamole isn’t even table side.
Great food but the rd e severs suck @ there job
Love the atmosphere, albeit a little loud. But adorable place with delicious, fresh food! Go and check out the cool graffiti too...
The murals set the tone - bright, cultural and sassy. We stopped in for a snack before the Art Museum. My companion had been there before and vouched for the quality and authenticity of the food. Started off with the Cuale appetizer - two jalapeños stuffed with cheeses, fresh salsa, chorizo, a large shrimp, and topped with Mexican crema. Amazingly good. Could have ordered more and made a meal of them! The happy hour tacos offered a choice of cochinito pibil, duck, shrimp, and more and all were delicious. Between us we tried each and all were excellent. These are $1.50 each and three or four make a meal. Next time, and there will be a next time, will have a regular meal and a margarita.
Food is amazing. Bar tenders can’t make a drink to save their lives (airport location)
Perfect spices. Great coffee!
Save your wallet Another terrible hipster joint. It's Mexican food! How can you mess it up.?! And let's not forget expensive! 15 dollars for guacamole and stale chips.
Anything but Mexican. Was American fufu with extremely small portions. What are the fish tacos and the fish was perfect only problem is it was the size of a chicken McNugget and I ain't kidding either. Dropped over a hundred bucks and left hungry. Good place for American people that don't know better...they eat that Chicano vibe s*** right up! Overall great service, cool place and not so bad food but I don't recommend dropping the type of money for the quantity OR quality of food. It was just okay
Skimpy portions. High prices. I ordered the fish tacos. Needed a microscope to find the fish. Tortillas were teeny tiny. Would have been a good size for an appetizer. Best part of the meal was the spicy ketchup that came with the spicy fries which to me were equally unimpressive. Would have no interest in returning to this establishment.
We really liked the fresh bread and spread they bring out to start. I picked the side salad instead of spicy French fries and it did not disappoint. The dressing is outstanding. I want to try the spicy French fries next time. The fish tacos and Del Mar were both great choices. We look forward to go back again.
One of the best mexican restaurants I have experienced anywhere. Stopped by during a one day trip from Chicago. A bit out of the way from things but well worth the trip. Everything we had was very good and staff was great. Will make this my can’t miss restaurant while visiting Phoenix area.
I am impressed with the service , the ambiance was excellent and food was delicious!!
Very good food, but the menu needs to be changed a little bit.
Great food, great service and loved all the art n murals.
The location made me wonder, but oh my what a find. Went for happy hour and had the house margarita and the $1.50 tacos. The were absolutely superb. The fish tacos were probably the best, but the pork were also outstanding. The house margarita was better than the other, fancier and more expensive ones. Absolutely crisp and fresh and tart, best restaurant margarita I think I’ve ever had. (I don’t like sweet margaritas)
This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. It's authentic; it's delicious. It's a somewhat smaller setting inside but that's literally the ONLY downside. I recommend the enchiladas del Mar if you aren't allergic to seafood. Their tres leches cake is HEAVEN.
Great service. Tasty original food. I had the shrimp tacos. Heads up! Plenty of parking IN BACK. Love the decor!
Hands down the best tacos, guacamole and drinks. What a wonderful culinary experience that starts the second you walk through their colorfully painted doors. The Latin music is vibrant and pairs perfectly with the deep and lively flavors of their food. The service is outstanding. You cannot miss this gem in Phoenix. Also! While we were dining Chef Silvana walked by- what a treat! Do not miss their happy hour specials!
Great food and we have been there dozens of time of the years but still weird they dont serve chips with their salsa. Excellent tequila selection and fantastic guacamole.
It is the best Mexican food I've ever had in Phoenix. Tremendous in every way and the margheritas are out of this world.
Food was ok but over priced. Our server Cesar was rude and loudly complained to the whole restaurant when we left a $5 tip even though he kept stopping to chat with coworkers and then apologized for the long wait
Loved Gabriela, we will go back just for her!!
Chef Silvana has made me happy again. Nothing ice ever had has been mediocre. Everything is amazing and mind blowing. Her mole is the best I've ever had as well.
There’s a reason why they have won many awards. Absolutely amazing! The food is spectacular and the service is friendly. A must do if you are visiting Phoenix.
This is one of my favorite spots for no frills amazingly prepared food from the Mexican heartland. You really can't go wrong with most of the menu. The guacamole is classic in how it showcases the avocado with a fun twist of pomegranate seeds. The Queso Fundito is gloppy and tasty with earthy mushrooms and spicy chorizo to cut through the cheese. The Esquites is everything that you want in street corn in an easier to eat format. ou need to try the Cochinita Pibil in some form. It's the most amazing Pork slow roasted with sour oranges in banana leaves. Wow. Is it tasty. This time I had the Mole Enchiladas with Chicken. Dark and earthy and complex, it's what Mole should taste like. The Flan and Tres Leches are exactly how they should each taste, but the Crepes with Cajeta are out of this world. The goat milk caramel is simply amazing. I could eat quarts of it. The Margaritas as expected are great but for a treat try a Paloma with Mezcal, Smokey and Limey and Grapefruity goodness.
It's rare to go out to dine and find a place this hits it out of the ball park from start to finish. Amazing!!!!
Wonderful Dinner! Great service, atmosphere and blow your mind away dishes! Never seen my kids clean plates like they did here! Thank you Guy and Triple D! We will be back!
Absolutely fantastic guac! Delicious dinner!
Overall experience was terrible. The wait for our food was atrocious, the server took 25 minutes to take our order. Then another ONE HOUR to bring our food. Definitely will not be becoming back. All that wait and the food was cold. Not Authentic Mexican like they like to promote on the menu, its more American Mexican food.
Dinner was delicious, nice atmosphere reasonable prices. Wife and I had tacos fried fish and cochinita pibil.
The barrio torta was the driest thing ever. It had heaps of wilted lettuce. Only 2 very small tomato slices on the whole thing. Worth less than half the outrageous price. The "award winning" guacamole was okay at best. It was giant chunks of avocado not mashed at all. The pomegranate was a good touch but this did not taste like a real guacamole. It was also advertised as made table side and was just dropped off at the table and not made table side. Dont be fooled the tacos are street tacos not regular and not made well at that. 4 very small half cooked tortillas that were hard in some spots and soft in others, cheese and chilies. My wife could not get over the consistency of the tortilla that she left more than half on her plate. The only good thing in my opinion was the fries. The server was inattentive and would not check on us yet serving the tables around us. Tried to get his attention yet was ignored several times. We were out of drinks by the time our main dishes arrived but could not get his attention for a refill. I do not reccomend this place at all.
Unique menu and great service
We have family in Scottsdale and they took us here and it was some of the best Mexican food I've had - and I live in Dallas where we have lots of great Mexican restaurants! I had one of my favorite dishes that I rarely see in restaurants, Chiles en Nogada, and it was delicious. The pozole was really good too. Service was friendly and prompt. We had such a good meal.
I can only testify as to the breakfast and it was NOT good. I had a giant burrito with eggs and pulled pork? Yes, pulled pork. It was that or grilled chicken. I gave it a 2 because they were fast and the portions were huge. The pulled pork was super greasy and eggs were cold and under a heat lamp for some time. The server did not speak English so it was very tough to communicate. I would skip this place if you are having breakfast.
We went to Barrio for dinner. It was pretty pricy, considering what we ordered. My husband got enchiladas and they didn't have much flavor. It cost $22 for it too. He said Whole Foods enchiladas are much better. It looks like the time to come is happy hour. I'd be happier if we had paid less! The tastiest thing was the dip that come out with the bread.
So over-rated! So expensive! Uncomfortable chairs. Signature dish is a $25 pile of wet pork with a little mild salsa on top. Their $15 guacamole is a bad joke and the thick, greasy tortilla chips are the worst in the city. One positive was their Del Mar dinner plate which was really good.
The food was good and the meal was quick!
I have always wanted to try Barrio Cafe. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes which was not bad considering the cafe was full and there was a couple in front of us. Once they were seated, we noticed a table for 2 next to the wall and we both thought it was odd they did not seat us. Mind you, this table was available from the moment we walked in. 20 minutes later, the host says our table is ready and you guessed it, we were seated at the open table we had been looking at the entire wait. Once seated, the wait staff seemed short handed and there seemed to be a lack of organization or desire to wait on us. We were very hungry as the was about 3 PM but it took 10 minutes before we got a basket of bread. One good thing was once we ordered, the food came rather quickly. My wife got the pork tacos and they were delicious. I had the mole cheese enchiladas and they were good but not something I would order again. I will come back some day to try something else on their menu but will hope for a better experience. The decor is nice and the music was a perfect addition to create an authentic atmosphere.
Truly delicious food worthy of dinner anytime you are in Phoenix. Great service and wonderful authentic food. Unreal slow cooked pork, with just the softest hint of smoke. Wish we had room for dessert, there is always next time.
Food is great! Had the Steak and eggs plate with potatoes and it was amazing! Great portion to fill me up!
This could have been a great review. It isn't because my date night was a wreck. We had a waiter who hit on my date - seriously, are you daft? The meals are overpriced and overrated. I would have spent some time highlighting the menu items, but I must focus on people skills instead. Oddly enough, a white waiter suggested that we weren't fitting in since we were white folks. I lived in that hood for many years and the ethnic make-up has changed from the 1990s but there's no express reason to insult paying customers. Wouldn't go back there if they paid me to come back!
My hubby was in Arizona for a few days for work and he happened to eat here and said it was pretty good food. He ordered the Chile’s enogada and black mole. He loved the Chile’s enogada more. Said it was very different and flavorful. The mole was savory.
I mean I went here because Arizona magazine ranked this like 1 of the top 10 restaurants and best chef but I felt it was seriously overpriced for what you get. They have cheesy paintings for sell on the wall. The menu is very confusing and their Belgium beer was horrible. Is it mexican, is it French or is it just confused. Also the AC was turned way too far down. Overall the staff was nice.
The food is excellent! A little cozy seating wise, but well worth the try.
Really amazing food, fantastic service... worth every minute we spent. Highly recommend it!
I had the best meal of my life here. Consistently great and delicious. Good service.
Good food, but very pricey for Mexican food, 3 bite size tacos for $20 without sides, and a $20 torta left me ready to hit the drive thru on the way home. But still a nice experience.
Heard great things about this place, so drove from Goodyear to Phoenix, just to try it. Couldn't have been more disappointed. We ordered the guacamole first, pomegranates don't belong in Guac, I don't know why you'd ruin it with those. For dinner, I ordered the Verde Enchiladas, my daughter had the tacos, both were gross, so our lovely server, Salzar, got me, chorizo and chicken enchiladas, they were better, but I ate 1, I will throw away the rest, not worth keeping. The 2 stars were for the spicy fries, which were actually good, and our server, who was a sweetie. My own Mexican cuisine far exceeds this place, thanks Senora Galindo for teaching me how to cook Mexican food correctly.
The meal wasn't what I was hoping for--I got chicken mole. Service was really friendly. The horchata and guac are very good though! I would go back for those as a snack.
Amazing food, great art. I always come here when I'm in town. Worth the wait!
Great Mexican food, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Such a cool place and the food was amazing. Great service. Def will be back
My fiance and I went there to admire the artwork and check out breakfast. We were walking along the back side of the cafe and noticed an older Mexican lady working in the back and we approached her to tell her how greatly be appreciated the amount of artwork in the neighborhood and the fact that someone was changing the look of the neighborhood on their own dime. The lady was absolutely rude and treated us like we were less than dirt. She stated that she owns the establishment and she's tired of all the questions and told me and my fiance to get to Steppin. I was so disappointed by the ladies words and lack of people skills, being that she was a business owner, we did not eat breakfast and we will never return again, if you like to be treated like a human, don't come here.
Wow. Just wow. This is a hidden gem in Phoenix; the best meal I've had since moving here from the Midwest. I had the Pollo Poblano and my bf had the Chile en Nogada... The many flavors just danced in our mouths; I heard angels. We were in HEAVEN. This is what happiness tastes like. ...I'm jealous of the people that live on this block.
Horrible experience and could be deadly! I was at the Barrio Queen a few years back and it was really good. Our visit last week was an overall very poor experience. The most disturbing part was a friend ordered a dish with meat, but she did not find out until about 1/2 way through the meal that the dish contained crab!! The server reconfirmed the dish should not have had any crab and she alerted the kitchen staff that the dish was wrong but was told, “...bring it out anyway.” Had my friend been allergic to seafood...that would have been a fantastic possibly deadly surprise. We called the Manager over, he apologized and offered us a something else or a free dessert. Seriously? I called the restaurant twice the following day, over one week ago, and explained that I need to speak to the owner regarding an very important matter. No one has returned my calls. Complete negligence! The service was horrible. My husband asked for water, so they brought it for him, but not the other three patrons in our party and no one asked if we wanted water. The guacamole could not even be called that. It was a bland mix of chunks of precut avocado. When we shared there was no spice, we were told the seeds were removed because “people don’t like it spicy”. Really? We wanted a good and spicy guacamole, but no one asked and even after we mentioned it, there was no offer to change it. I could write another few paragraphs, but enough said. The negligence of the staff, Management, and the owners is the key take away here.
Because of my expectations of this being "The Best Mexican Restaurant in Phoenix" this place really didn't do it for me. The service was outstanding, I could tell a lot of work went in to the dishes...I just didn't like them. We arrived in Phoenix and wanted to start out with some good food, saw the reviews and decided to give this place a try. It looks very cool from the outside, and inside was very nice too. Great waiter, very pleasant and attentive. Started the meal, no chips, instead we got Olive spread and some bread??? We ordered the table side guacamole, which turned out to NOT be table side, they just brought it out. It may have been called guacamole, and it had plenty of fresh ingredients, but it sure didn't taste like guacamole with the very heavy chips that came with it. My wife had some corn based soup, which was very good, then we both had tacos, mine were pork (good) hers were carne asada, chewy, with not much flavor. She didn't much care for the house margarita, it was a bit harsh and not that smooth. So this is a very nice place to eat, but it is trendy Mexican food that bore little resemblance to my expectations. It gets great reviews, and probably deserves them, but I didn't like it very much. The ingredients didn't mesh well, and seem deconstructed. It didn't have the smooth blended, refined, complementary flavors that I was hoping for.
Overall not bad but not as good as I expected. I had a salad so I probably could have had something more exciting. The guacamole was good but not 15 dollars good. The tres leches cake was delicious!
My first visit. Loved the place and the food. Great staff. I'll be back.
Amazing service and always amazing food. The food is always presented well and tastes like a million dollars!
Absolutely AMAZING! I could eat here everyday! The food, the story behind the restaurant, the art and the flavors are amazing! The Cochinita Pibil, Street Corn, Tacos, freshly made Tortilla Chips, Enchiladas and Churros were out of this world! This is a landmark in Phoenix! We will be returning next time we are in town!
The food and atmosphere is wonderful--a rare gem in Phoenix for authentic and unique dining. We recently had an issue with a reservation for our second visit to Barrio with friends, but the staff followed up with an apology and unexpected generosity--very professional. We look forward to returning to Barrio again and enjoying the culinary treats with friends. Don't hesitate to do so yourself!
