I had dinner at Camellia Cafe Friday night and really enjoyed the food, drinks, waiter and general vibe of the restaurant. Liked it so much that I returned tonight alone to have dinner at the bar. I arrived at 5:05 and was shocked by the chilly reception I received when I arrived 25 minutes before they opened. Never mind that the door was unlocked and so I walked in. I thought they opened at 5pm. I would have been fine to wait 25 minutes but the male and female at the front door acted so oddly that I asked if everything was alright. I did not feel welcomed. I was told there was a "meeting going on." I get that too. It would have been nice to know that I was welcomed and would I mind waiting in the chairs right outside the door? But it felt like I had wondered in and disturbed them. I left and went to another fine restaurant in the area who welcomed me for dinner. So, I don't know. Food is important but so is service and this service felt exclusive. Bah.

Food was not very good. Red snapper was very fishy tasting. Service was very slow to slower. I will not go back.

One of the best meals in either Baldwin or Mobile county, outside of my kitchen, priced accordingly, great atmosphere, romantic or other. Scallops, seabass and buttermilk custard/pie -

Good service, good menu options, good wine list. The duck was excellent, the scallops were very good. The truffle fries were OK. Price was not bad.

We have lived in Fairhope for five years and never eaten at Camellia, but not the want of trying. We always forget that you just can't get seated without a reservation. And there's so many great restaurants in walking distance we still get a great meal near by. So, call for a reservation!

The food was pretty good but the walmart-like atmosphere makes it not worth $50-75 per person price. Edit. I appreciate the response, I apologise for being vague, what I mean by 'atmosphere' is your only tables for 2 sit between the bar and kitchen, then you decided to sit a table of 16 right next to those, which created a busy walkway so narrow it would make airlines jealous. the place was a zoo, not to mention the chef in shorts n t-shirt with sunglasses in his hair and no safety equipment. To me, that doesn't justify the price tag.

What a fantastic restaurant this is! A Fairhope, Alabama highlight, for sure! We sifted through some idiotic Google reviews to choose this stupendous place. A 1-star review stated, “...excellent food...excellent service... but we didn’t like the decor...?” What a maroon. The decor is upscale and clean, while still being comfortable and inviting. Upon arrival, my senses were treated with the subtle smell of hickory wood, my hopes of grilled and smoky meats were not let down. From the cocktails, served with flavor and fresh produce flare, to the local craft brews and well selected wine list, our relax time kicked in nicely. The specials, grilled rack of lamb and scallops looked amazing, but the Kobe Burger and Truffle Fries hit my grilled/hickory craving just perfectly. This one one of the best burgers I have had in my life! Wow! Sometimes you just gotta have a burger. Delicious. The truffle fries are on par with my favorite Printworks Bistro in Greensboro, NC. Delicious and addictive. The fish my wife ordered was perfect! 5-Stars for sure. Light, freshly flavored on top of a sweet potatoe, almost ratatouille like, but flavored so nicely. I think I would have enjoyed anything the chef served. What a find! Thank you Camellia Cafe and our server Edwin for a splendid meal.

I never write reviews but upon reading e.gibson’s recent 1 star I had to come to the defense of my favorite restaurant, Camellia Cafe. This place is outstanding and any sane person would know that if they are that popular you should probably make a reservation if you plan on dining there. I eat there once a week and always make sure to save a spot! The fact that you wait until the last min and are astonished that you can’t just walk right in is comical!! The real kicker is that you gave them a 1star bc of YOUR lack of effort/brain function. Why would you want to hurt a beloved, local business bc of that? They won’t let me take someone else’s seat that took the time to make a reservation so I’m gonna act like a spoiled brat and give them a bad review. I will not let you punish them for that so I hope my 5 star will help cancel out your idiotic 1 star. Love Camellia Cafe so much! Eat where the Locals Eat! Ignore this E. Gibson!

Went late on a Saturday night. Food and service was outstanding. Had several small appetizers to share and the kobe steak burger. I never knew happy cows would taste so good. Great experience all around; except for the loud drunk at the bar (I think his name was Gary). Get help Gary.

Made a reservation-showed up early-seated us right away. Greeted by a super great waitress-April, who could talk about college football, which we loved and Fairhope history (the Café also). As they told us the menu changes daily, so to tell you what I ate, well, it might change. Tomato bisque soup was great! My husband had the tomato salad, which looked great minus the bacon. I had a red snapper dish-hoppin jon(that is what we call it in KY)-the red snapper was great, but unfortunately I did not read the ingredients which it had lardon in it-I am vegetarian. My husband had the scampi-looked great. Dessert was fabulous-Press Pot coffee and blueberry bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. I would return! The music was great-good variety. Atmosphere-calming-romantic.

Sometime back in May or June of 2018 my google account was hacked and unbeknownst to me a horrible review for one of my most favorite restaurants in Fairhope - Camellia Cafe was posted. I had no idea this had happened until through a series of recent Facebook connections Ryan at Camellia Cafe reached out to see what could be done to make things right since obviously this post has been up for 7 months. I feel so bad that this happened and I want to apologize, the good news is I was able to go in and delete that review. So let me tell you MY opinion and that is Camellia Cafe is one of Fairhope's jewels in our towns crown. The people that work there are impressive they go out of their way to make sure that every detail no matter how big or small is done to perfection, from the moment you walk in you are treated like family, the atmosphere on any given night is vibrant and one of our favorite places to sit is at the bar where you never know who you are going to sit next to, but you can guarantee it will be fun.The food is insanely good and they always have some great specials to choose from. If I can add just one more reason why you should go to Camellia Cafe you MUST get the pecan pie, it is addicting.

Camellia's is by far my FAVORITE restaurant on the Eastern Shore! Every single thing I've eaten here is amazing. They have the best crab cake appetizer I've ever tasted. I recommend the pan roasted duck with baby brussels sprouts for an entree. The ambience of the restaurant is wonderful as well.

Absolutely the best dinning in the area. I could not find anything wrong in anything. Perfection at its finest.

Group of 5 went there for lunch during a very busy festival event with people lined up at the door to get in. They handled it well. They had a limited menu so the food didn't take too long. The crab cake BLT I had was to die for and the bourbon pecan pie was fantastic. The service was great! I would go back to try dinner!

Fantastic!! The kobe burger is out of this world - I know, I know you're asking "a burger, really?" - TRY IT, I didn't want to order it the first time either b/c it's a nice restaurant, but you'll change your mind! I've tried to get kobe burgers in other restaurants to match this one for years, and nothing even comes close... Also the truffle fries are unbelievable!

I love walking into a place that is simple with a touch of elegance. I like when restaurants have great service and let the food be the focal point of the visit. I also really appreciate when a chef approaches his work as art- because at the end of the day- that is exactly what good food is. The wifey and I visited Camellia Café this past weekend with another couple. As we walked in, we received a warm welcoming greeting and were shown to our table. Ricky, our server, promptly approached the table and set the tone for the evening- he was great! Super friendly, funny, attentitive, and helpful. We each started with a drink. Any place that has Booker's behind the bar is alright with me. Definitely hit the spot. The ladies each had a mixed cocktail that they enjoyed as well. Next Up: The Appetizer. Due to picky eaters at the table- we had to keep this part simple. We opted for the Truffle Fries and Beef Carpaccio. The fries came out perfect. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. The Beef Carpaccio... It disappeared quicker than imaginable! It was delicious! And now... The Main Event! I opted for the Veal Tomahawk steak. It came accompanied with carrots and potatoes au gratin. It was presented very nicely, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor! I was not disappointed at all. The wife had the filet mignon, also presented nicely and cooked perfectly. Our friends had the duck and the fish. I stole a bite of each plate and everything was very tasty. The meats all seemed to be of good quality and nothing was skimped on. Camellia Café lived up to our expectations. We all left very satisfied. The service was fantastic, the ambience within the place was great, and the food was just right. This will definitely be a place that we come back to in the future. The perfect place to have a date night, celebrate something special, or to just treat yourself to a great meal.

Pretentious and like to never got our check. Was ready to go, ask for check and still waited 30 min. Just to pay. Appetizer was excellent, my entree didn't even finish it. Had the snapper, pick something else if you go.

Food was great, but our server... he lacked people skills. He didn't deal well with large groups.

Had our first meal there last evening. Perfect in all aspects. Simple and elegant decor. Excellent staff( a special shout out to Cody , our server and Chef Chris) but all were just great. Food was simply wonderful. Must surely be the very best restaurant in the area.
