Awful experience. I called to schedule the assembly of an ikea dresser. I was told of the two hour base cost, which was quite steep, but I needed this done, and was assured the project would be done in that two hour time frame. I scheduled the appointment. The following transpired: 1. The technician was an hour late. 19 minutes before the appointed time the tech called to say he was in traffic and would be 20 minutes late. 20 min is NOT an hour. 2. The project seemed to be taking awhile but every so often the tech would say he was almost done. He was not. 3. At three hours and forty-five minutes he asked me if he can stop and because I’m not made of money, I agreed. Please keep in mind he was an hour late, so I’m nearly 5 hours in on waiting on the tech. 4. I was charged $504 and my dresser is not complete. 5. I called the company and spoke with Kim. I asked what recourse do I have. She spoke with the office manager and I was presented the option of rescheduling and completing the project another time, for free. I don’t have the time and who knows how late the tech would be or how much longer it would take. I said no. 6. I asked for a refund because the project was not done and I wasn’t notified by the tech that he wouldn’t be able to do the job in two hours. He never stopped to ask my permission to go beyond two hours. When we spoke at three hours and forty five minutes he said this isn’t the first time this has happened. 7. They told me no on the refund. Instead, they credited me an hour. 8. I am sad, out $400, and my dresser isn’t done. I am shocked by how an experienced professional could take so long in assembling a dresser. I am also shocked how an experienced professional could arrive a whole hour late. Furthermore, I am disappointed in the company’s response. I will never use their services again. I hope this review will save someone else the heartache. I just moved to NoVa and what a disappointing and costly welcome.

They quickly responded to my online inquiry. Verbal confirmation and explanation of pricing and servicing process was made via telephone contact. Notification of the technician's picture and name were provided ahead of time via email. Technician was friendly, respectful, helpful, knowledgable, and worked efficiently. I just want to state, for the record, how pleased I am with my experience in using Mr. Handyman in helping me with my bathroom remodeling work. The particular person they sent, John, is very pleasant to work with and quite knowledgeable about a wide range of plumbing and carpentry work. I especially appreciate his willingness to explain technical processes or show me particular techniques. Yes, I ended up discovering some alignment issues in his initial plumbing work when I was tiling and installing fixtures, and had to call him back a few months later. But he fixed them quite competently and enthusiastically, even though it involved moving two huge bookshelves and all their books. John even helped me out with some additional minor plumbing tasks after all that work to make sure the new system he installed worked perfectly. When I offered to pay for that extra help, he refused to accept it. It is precisely such professional conduct that makes me a loyal customer of Handyman.

Mr. Handyman is prompt and reliable. They recently changed out three outside and one inside light fixtures, and I scheduled a new "parging" project with them. Years ago, they put in a hand-rail down the main stairway to prevent falls, and made the project less expensive by suggesting a good alternative to what I was thinking. I gave them a 10 out of 10. My understanding is that this is Veteran-owned and operated, another plus.

This is the third time I have used Mr. Handyman and each time they have done excellent work. They recently repaired damaged dry wall ceiling approximately 8 feet by 12 feet. This was a big job that took 12 hours to finish. I liked that they did not rush the job and let the spackle (mud) dry properly before sanding and finishing. They are very professional and worked very efficiently. They also did some electrical work and installed pull-down stairs to the attic on previous occasions. I work definitely recommend Mr. Handyman.

This company apparently likes to put their customers in danger. I paid 300 dollars for two simple repairs: replacing a pull switch for a ceiling light and replacing a piece of trim on a door. Not only was the repairman careless enough to not even screw the lock jam back in but I went into my bedroom later to go to bed and stepped on the blunt end of a box cutter that was left on my floor. I called and complained about the negligent behaviour and was handed off to several individuals- all who could seem to care less. Eventually, I reached the repairman's supervisor who not only insinuated I was a liar but refused to refund a portion if my money because- "it's not like you went to the hospital". The supervisor said the owner of the company would call me- it has been 3 weeks and no phone call. This company is negligent, potentially dangerous, and does not take customer satisfaction seriously. Avoid at all cost.

Nightmare!!! Okay, so I've waited two weeks to see if my opinion would change and it hasn't. I requested Mr. Handyman to come out to my home to perform minor drywall repair (water damage) on the ceiling in my foyer. The representative said they would need two techs to come out because of the height of the ladder (one to hold and help carry) and they would be able to do the work. Upon arrival, one immediately used my bathroom, the other (while holding stomach) used it shortly after arrival. In the first 45 minutes (hourly billing), they only had one drop cloth down and one ladder against the wall, only then did they start the job. Heck, they knew they were doing a drywall job and one asked me if I had drywall tape. By the way, not once did they help each other support the ladders or carry them. In fact, one of the guys almost fell when his ladder slid down the corner of the wall (that's right, the corner) and they both thought it was funny. One of the two was inside the house working for only 15 minutes of the two hour window they were here. When he (the 15 minutes guy) told me they were only scheduled to be at my home for two hours, I was surprised. I called the office and based on comments made by the worker, it sounded as if they were in disagreement with staying. When I called the office back to let them know I'm uncomfortable and would like them to leave, the worker was interrupting my call out of frustration, so I kindly asked him to wait outside, at which point he said "I'm leaving this place." Perhaps, they had a bad day or there was miscommunication, who knows? But I won't be going to Mr. Handyman anytime soon.

We had work done by another “expert” who really did a terrible job. They finished on time and on budget. The supervisor stopped by to check the progress and quality and asked me questions. Mr Handyman is probably one of the best service providers we've ever used, and have made an awful situation in our house more bearable because of their superior customer service, "be of service" mindset, complete professionalism, and work ethic. We have been dealing with two separate major issues involving extensive water damage to our home. The first was caused by a neighbor's hot water heater malfunctioning, and the second was due to an aging HVAC system unable to deal with the extreme hot and humid conditions of this summer (and the excess water in the house due to the other problem). Mike and Jay have been nothing but spectacular in their interactions with us. Doug, from the business office has been nothing short of professional and personable. And Jo, the owner, has been there in person as we've dealt with insurance adjusters and working through the various hoops to get the initial water damaged materials removed before they come back to install new materials. This gang is someone you need on your speed dial directory, most certainly.

Our score is not necessarily a reflection of the work performed, but rather the issues we encountered in the process and the cost. We are happy with the tile work in our bathroom remodel and the technician was skillful and made some helpful suggestions. However, the work was supposed to start on Monday and end on Tuesday (1.5 days was the original quote). We received a call Monday morning saying the appointment needed to be rescheduled for the work to start the next day, which would not have been a big deal if the work was only going to take 1.5 days as quoted. Unfortunately, the work carried over into multiple days, is still not finished, and has already cost more than double what we were quoted (nearly $3000 when the quote was for $1200). The quote also included work that was not completed despite the extra time. It's a week later and we still can't use the bathroom. Overall this was a very disappointing experience.

Mr Handyman has done big and small projects for me. The 'handymen' are creative- one put up a Purrfect Fence freestanding cat enclosure on a place I'm renting. I told him I didn't want to drill into the stone walkways or make too many holes in the house (because it isn't my property) and this guy came up with a workaround in no time and 3 years later, it's still standing with minimal invasive work on the house. I recently had Brandon from Mr H come fix a big door. He id'd the hinge, went to Home Depot and came back with hinges- he changed them all out so they'd match. Nice. The company sent me a pic of him so I could ID him when he arrived, too. (Nice new touch). I have a $25 off coupon for two-hour or less jobs, and every quarter, they send out $100 coupons for big jobs of eight hours. No probs with these guys. They even referred me to their organization in the city I'm moving to, and I already got a call. Smooth. I recommend calling on a weekday- the weekend staff doesn't seem on top of it, but the weekday staff rocks.

Fantastic Service by both the Company and the Service Rep that did the work. We have used Mr. Handyman three times and always satisfied of the work and genuine interest of the company and service man. Last time was for some drywall repair,great job and left house clean and tidy after he had finished. My advice, Use Mr. Handyman and their staff for work needing done around your home. Big or small they do it all. They get the job done Right the first time.Just great Service!!

I was quoted around $800 to replace the wood trim around two box windows ( 1 on first floor and 1 on second floor) with vinyl on a Thursday. The technician comes out and quotes me around $2000 just to do the bottom window and it took him about 8 hrs to remove the wood trim. He said he needed to get some help and come back the next day and covered my bottom box window with tarp. However it rained the next day and when he came back we were told that the job would not be finished until the following Wednesday even though the only day it rained was Friday. Then they did not tell us that we would have to pay another $1200 for another technician to come and help the first guy do the job. The total bill came to $3600. Mr. Handyman of Manassas treats their customers like a blank checkbook. They did a decent job but that doesn't make you feel better when they blow your budget. And I did not get BOTH window trims replaced vinyl, only one box window was done all for $3600.

I initially had a good experience and then one of the technicians tried to rip me off by using supplies I had at my house while at the same time charging me for those same supplies at a 200% mark-up because he had also purchased them on a supply run. He left the job undone while telling me it was done and I could finish up the rest on my own. When he didn't use a $99 fan that they had marked up to $300 on the bill I requested a refund but they wouldn't give me what I actually paid them for it. I had to contact the headquarters of the franchise to get any satisfaction as the local office wouldn't budge. Finally I got some of the money back and a decent guy came out and cleaned up the mess the other guy left, and they didn't charge me for that which is why I'm rating them this high. If you use them, just buy your own stuff and have them install it. It's a gamble whether you'll get a good guy or not.

I had an issue where I needed three door trim/molding pieces replaced. I told them about the damage and even sent pictures. While I appreciate that they have free quotes, what they quoted me was OUTRAGEOUS! Now, keep in mind we aren't talking about replacing the door frame or putting up a new door, just simply replacing the trim/molding around the outside. The same trim/molding that cost $7-$12 at your local Lowe's or Home Depot. And to have it painted, which would be a small can because its three 7' pieces, would cost me $500-$700. I do not know what they use for their price estimates, however, they seem to be wildly impractical. I spoke with other contractors who quoted me MINIMUM $200 less. I decided to go with one who could repair with the same quality, in the same labor time range, without painting (which I can do myself), for less than $200. Never will I ever pay $500+ for such a small job!

I spoke with several contractors and service organizations prior to hiring Mr. Handyman, and all it took to make the decision to do the job with Mr. Handyman was talking to Missy on the phone. She was very organized, had answers to all my questions, even before I asked them, and was approachable and up front about all things concerning my experience. And the workmen kept up Missy's level of professionalism and courtesy. I didn't have the easiest job, and at one point, I think I and Mike referred to it as "utter chaos" (product issue, not Mr. Handyman's fault) but I felt like I was in good hands the entire time. 1. I liked the way Ivan barely entered the house before dropping a cloth and putting on booties to keep my floor clean. 2. I liked the way he followed through what I thought I needed from him, and when I asked he showed me things that could make the repair even better. 3. I liked his positive attitude. 4. Mike Pecoraro was great. He replaced a window sill that our German Shepherd puppy had chewed off. He also fixed another window sill that was badly scratched and an entryway step that was gnawed (by same puppy). In other parts of the house he re-did an electrical switch that an electrician had installed and repaired drywall around the house. Is there nothing he cannot do?
