Called them in because we had a squirrel in our chimney and wanted it removed and the chimney capped. They looked, said there was no squirrel and that one they saw on the roof was probably the one that was in there. Then they capped the chimney for a fairly high price. A few days later we heard and saw the squirrels trying to get out of the chimney (which was capped so they could not leave at all at this point). Had to solve the problem ourselves. A lot of money to pay to achieve very little.

They presented several options and a few recommendations. They indicated alternatives outside of their realm of expertise. They handled a simple damper installation that solved an immediate problem. I have an estimate in my email that I can now refer to for planning purposes. If you are seeking an estimate that's thorough, I highly recommend. Please, please, please, make sure you always inspect all chimneys before you close on a sale. Hiring these folks for a detailed inspection could save you from a $20,000 or $30,000 mistake.

Tyler and Hunter came out to inspect an older wood burning stove in our home. We suspected there were issues and, as a result of heir inspection, were able to make the decision to remove the wood stove so as not to put my family at risk of a house fire. I appreciated their candor and honesty in their recommendation to either - 1) repair the flue tiles, 2) replace the stove and repair the flue tiles or 3) remove the stove and seal up the chimney. They were efficient and helpful. We would recommend them highly.

Sadly, my experience comes down to who to believe.... A few weeks ago I bought a townhome that was built in the 70s that has a wood burning fireplace. I hired 2nd generation to come out and inspect it. Troy came out. He looked at the chimney and said it was pretty dirty. In order to inspect it properly, he would have to clean it. Cost.. another $100. He cleaned it and then showed me on his camera a live video of cracks in tiles. His recommendation was that I not use the chimney until it was repaired. He gave me repair quotes of 4 to 10 grand accompanied with sales brochures of new inserts. Being new to this chimney repair business, I hopped online and started researching. Came up with average chimney repair cost: $2500 for a new metal flue. Hmmm, I thought I am going to go that route. And hmmm, I wonder why Troy didn't mention that. Seeing the home seller said the fireplace was in working condition prior to purchasing the home, I thought I would give her a call and see what the history was. What she told me made me really question whether or not I was being told the truth by Troy. She said she had another company come out about 5 years ago to have it cleaned and said the chimney was in great shape. No cracks. She said she barely used the fireplace since it was cleaned...both she and I questioned why it needed to be cleaned. Thought it best I get another opinion before I started shelling out $. I called the company she had used. They said seeing it had been awhile they would like to come to check it again free of charge. Nick took pic's and there were no cracks to be found. Great looking, solid chimney. He said all the townhouse chimneys around my area are some of the best he has seen. Absolutely no repairs needed on mine and feel free to use it. Who would you believe? I know who I believe.

I really appreciated the thoroughness and professionalism we received. We purchased a house with a wood burning fireplace in it. Not knowing when it was last serviced, we thought we should have it cleaned & inspected. Turns out some pieces needed replacing in order to put it in safe operating condition. The reasons why those items needed to be replaced were thoroughly explained to us, and pictures were provided of past jobs with similar repair items so we could visually see the before/after. We felt very comfortable asking questions on anything we didn't understand.

I researched multiple chimney/fireplace outfits and 2nd Generation superseded the rest by far. They were understanding and accommodating to my goofy schedule. Tyler and Matthias came out to the house and we're very thorough. Their inspection included more than the Chimney Pros inspection. They even found an obvious and hazardous problem with my furnace liner which they fixed that day. The Chimney Pros didn't even see or even look at this. They showed me pics and the evidence for the hazard. They were also very reasonable when it turned out I had to have some extensive work done on my chimney and fireplace. They worked within my budget and were very professional about it. I highly recommend these guys to anyone!

2nd Generation Chimneys was recommended by a company that couldn't service my chimneys due to their height. 2nd Generation was responsive, expert, and fast. They did a second level inspection, showing me on-the-spot results from the camera placed in two chimney flues, and then discussed options for remedying the problems. I greatly appreciated that they took the time to talk to me at length about the many technical details of chimney construction, maintenance, and repair, as well as their recommendations for my particular chimney issues. My chimneys were built in 1903, using an old, European style of double-bricked liner, and the 2nd Generation crew demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge. The chimneys are so tall that they had to procure extra scaffolding to get atop to create a new crown and apply a cap on one chimney and check the condition of the crown and cap on the second chimney. They even cut down the renegade Buckthorn bushes at the side of the house to make it easier to maneuver at the scaffolding at ground level. They came on a Monday to do the inspection, returned two days later to effect repairs, and removed the scaffolding the following morning. In my case, I opted for immediate structural repairs to protect a flue from outside elements, locking in a lifetime price for future inspections. Down the line, I will return to the company to install wood and coal burning inserts to make fireplaces usable and safe while keeping soot to a minimum. Turns out my real estate agent also uses 2nd Generation Chimneys. I highly recommend them.

It was a hard, dirty job and on a roof with a very steep pitch, they completed the job within 2 1/2 hrs. it was also a hot day. They were both professional and courteous, cleaned up after the job. Had them out to inspect the old prefab fireplace that came with our house that had a gap in the venting the home inspector recommended we have looked at. After having another chimney company come out and say it was unsafe we had 2nd generation come out for a 2nd opinion and options for repairs. Charged $199+tax for a "Chimney Cleaning and Video Inspection." We didn't have any cleaning done (in fact, the tech's recommendations say "recommend cleaning the fireplace"). The only images I saw were a few photos from when he stuck his iphone up the chimney. Didn't get any video. After initially saying the fireplace looked fine, the tech changed his mind on further inspection and said it was, in fact, unsafe. The tech recommended an insert - I asked if that was actually OK, given that the existing fireplace was unsafe - but he insisted it was. I looked up the installation manual for the insert he recommended, which says: "Make sure that the chimney and wood-burning appliance are in a clean and sound condition and constructed of non-combustible materials. If necessary have any repair work done by a qualified person before installing the insert." To my knowledge this is true of all inserts.

The video inspection of my Kozy Heat fireplace helped me and my husband understand what needed to be done to repair the chimney and keep our home safe. I just had my chimney repaired and cleaned by 2nd Generation chimney on 080318. I notified Lisa by email about a crack at the top and the condition of the seal for our chimney cap. Troy came to my home on time, cleaned my chimney and repaired and sealed the cap. He also explained the inspection and showed us a picture of the newly repaired and sealed cap. I had Bonfes out for a routine furnace tune up on a Saturday. their tech informed me the furnace and hot water heater were back drafting dangerously because the flue was plugged up. He recommended 2nd Generation to address the problem. I could not get them by phone on a Saturday but sent an email on their website which they responded to on Sunday. They came out first thing Monday and cleared out what was probably a squirrel's nest, put on a new cap and told me my other chimney had a crack which could not be fixed until spring. 2nd Generation Chimneys was recommended by a company that couldn't service my chimneys due to their height. 2nd Generation was responsive, expert, and fast. They did a second level inspection, showing me on-the-spot results from the camera placed in two chimney flues, and then discussed options for remedying the problems. I greatly appreciated that they took the time to talk to me at length about the many technical details of chimney construction, maintenance, and repair, as well as their recommendations for my particular chimney issues. My chimneys were built in 1903, using an old, European style of double-bricked liner, and the 2nd Generation crew demonstrated an impressive level of knowledge. The chimneys are so tall that they had to procure extra scaffolding to get atop to create a new crown and apply a cap on one chimney and check the condition of the crown and cap on the second chimney. They even cut down the renegade Buckthorn bushes at the side of the house to make it easier to maneuver at the scaffolding at ground level. They came on a Monday to do the inspection, returned two days later to effect repairs, and removed the scaffolding the following morning. In my case, I opted for immediate structural repairs to protect a flue from outside elements, locking in a lifetime price for future inspections. Down the line, I will return to the company to install wood and coal burning inserts to make fireplaces usable and safe while keeping soot to a minimum. Turns out my real estate agent also uses 2nd Generation Chimneys. I highly recommend them.
